He actually recently made a video specifically about how miserable solo queue is, and breaks down a lot of the reasons why. its an hour long because it has games that were surprising in the middle of the video, but the start and end timestamps explain his reasoning and the results of his experiment:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_ap-rZHoW4

giving up/disconnecting was as common as 14%, map offerings from one side or the other were 26%, and issues like perks getting hurt by lack of communication (like deliverance or plot twist accidental sandbagging) was 46%. He even advocates for that type of information to be possible without SWF.

Oh this is new. I know he hadn’t said anything about it for a while (since HUD update I believe). I’ll check it out and return with my thoughts.

Same with survivor (Evolve, Death Garden).

Here's proof this game is massively unbalanced. Otz is a top-tier player who can go on massive win streaks as killer, yet can't escape more than 40% of the time after hundreds of matches. The devs have ruined this game for survivors.

    https://youtu.be/w_ap-rZHoW4?t=3918

He’s part of the reason for the state of this things. I’ve noticed Otzdarva doesn’t really talk about survivor or solo queue anymore and generally avoids playing these roles unless he’s low on content.

  • Maybe they see one person on gens but 1-2 others doing unproductive things. You dunno.

  • @SimpleSage said:

Honestly I don't mind stealth at all if you're productive about it. I don't think anyone likes the teammate who hides in the corner all game and frankly that doesn't appear to be what the original topic of discussion was.

I 100% prefer a teammate who knows they can't loop so they stealth and use that time to do gens, get unhooks and heal, over a teammate who wants to get chased and goes down instantly and can't contribute to the workload because they spent the entire match on a hook. While fully immersed stealth can be a hindrance on the team, so can being overly aggressive.

Taking chases doesn't win the match, completing objectives does. You can loop the killer for 3 mins and it means absolutely nothing if gens aren't getting completed.

That being said, I usually play with a decent bit of stealth but it really depends on some factors.

What killer is it? Is it one I can loop decently/somewhat or one that stomps on me no diff? If I can't loop the killer at all I'm not going out of my way to take every chase that comes my way, I will absolutely avoid what chases I can (within reason ofc) and opt to do gens, get unhooks, eat that pesky Devour Hope and heal. I am way more useful to my team when I'm jumping from completed gen to completed gen than I am jumping through my hook states. It is worth more to my teammates if the killer spends 50s looking for me after I got tagged on BBQ while I run across the map to get unhook, heal and double a gen that was half way done while my other teammates sit on theirs, than it would be for me to gladly take the chase and force another teammate to get off their gen for unhook, only to be sitting on a hook myself 20s later. That also being said if its a killer I can loop or I'm the last one w/o hooks I will take a chase.

How good are my teammates? I have no intention of taking chase from the Renato who has been looping a Doctor for 3 gens without taking a hit (and because I didn't he looped for 5 gens and escaped while taking a hit running to the open exit gate.) And the 3 man SWF that mugged a P100 Wesker and left him with 2 hooks probably preferred that I was willing to pop 4 gens solo. On the other hand if it's Billy or Oni I will happily go run them down and/ or steal chase if my team needs me to if I haven't already attached myself to their back like a parasite.

If you're getting tunneled out at the start of the game you can 100% expect to see me when you hit death hook to force a down and hopefully take a hook state to give you distance and a chance to reset. I get that in some cases stealth can hurt more than help, but I see more people outright hate it in any form and I don't see the logic behind it. If the goal is to survive, why do I have to play every moment like I'm rushing to be sacrificed?

As for needing perks to be stealthy, I think you might be surprised. It's much harder to do against killers who have the mobility to immediately respond to info, but the rest of them? It depends a bit more on if the killer is using their brain or not, for a while now its been common occurrence to come across killers who cannot find survivors at all without info perks and the survivor panicking. 9/10 times if I'm stealthing a killer I'm perfectly visible, in their face, just chilling. And I can't tell you how many times I was able to calmly walk away without the killer finding me after I got hit with Ultimate and they came for me. Understanding the killers thought process, what's in their LOS and how you can deny tracking perks without using perks of your own can't be understated.

To all of my useful stealthers and Gen Jockeys out there: Keep up the good work.

Stealthful gen jockeys win games. And it’s ok that survivors have different roles on the team. Not every player is a good looper, some people find working on gens boring and prefer chase. Some enjoy healing others, some love that feeling of seeing the ‘X gens remaining’ counter tick down & knowing that’s because of them. Not all survivors are the same and that’s a wonderful thing. Because there will always be different ways of being strong.

The reason why 4 slowdown perks are commonly ran is not out of being "forced" to, it's because most other options just don't provide as good as value as 4 slowdown does.

For example, if you wanted to do an anti-heal build your perk choices are:

Gift of Pain, Coulphobia, Sloppy, Leverage, Nurses, Pentimento at 2+ stacks (but goodluck getting that without plaything), Thana (to force heals to interupt) or Blood Warden (to make catching survivors injured easier).

While some of those perks are okay, most of them will be providing little value on most killers. And with the recent nerfed to mangled, sloppy and killer addons that inflict mangled are weaker as well.

And unfortunately this has always been an issue with perk balance. We get a lot of interesting perk concepts that just don't get used because their values are too low or they are too conditional. Anti-skillcheck builds being completely pivotal around lullaby staying up and reaching 5 stacks while also requiring other perks to support it. At least Devour Hope itself doesn't need support for it to be dangerous if you do get the stacks up.

Not to mention because killers want specific elements of survivor gameplay nerfed (healing, stealth) survivors move away from perks or items that do those things… in favor of what? Gen efficiency. I’ve seen several threads where killers called for healing to be nerfed then killers where all pikachu face about why survivors aren’t healing during matches. Like what did you all expect?

  • People say that 3% was so overwhelming but hello, Boon: Dark Theory is a thing and in some ways better than MfT was (no risk as it doesn’t require injury for the haste boost). Why don’t I see killers complaining about it?

I sincerely doubt it. Usually I run around with 2 perks and play extremely chill. At the moment, I try to get something done by bringing better perks and play more serious. I'm still outmatched. Whatever is going on, I don't think it's because I raised my MMR too much.

It's a possibility though. By now I'm also beginning to see that I make a lot more mistakes than normally. It's probably best to take few days off DBD and come back when I am in a better mood.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3682168#Comment_3682168

Still, I genuinely don't understand how people are losing 20+ matches!?

I don't know what's going on. It's partly because I'm hopelessly outmatched with survivors that I can admit are way better than me, the stuff they bring and because I don't play as good as usual. Not anymore. I usually play with 2 perks (one of which is often Lightborn) and I play chill because I want to prevent things like these. Only it didn't work.

It doesn't help that during the event I was sent to GoJ and The Game quite a few times (all losses). I didn't even get the new map because GoJ is apparently the game's preferred map. I switched killers in the hopes that would improve the situation but so far it hasn't worked. I played Huntress, Deathslinger, Nemesis, Doctor, Dredge, Singularity, Plague, Clown, Trapper, Wraith and Billy so far. It's the same on all of them. I would understand that on Deathslinger and Huntress I struggle a bit because I rarely ever play them but I played Deathslinger for 5 matches and I lost every single one of them.

ok.. didn’t know you played that way. Well maybe it’s dome weird MMR mismatch due to backfilling?

    in Rant Comment by Ayodam
  • In my experience, MfT isn’t saving anyone from being tunneled. 🤷🏽‍♀️

  • I see posts like this and I wonder if killers like you—primary killer players—have a rough go of it because you’ve had an easier time increasing your MMR as killer.

@Bafugaboo alluded to it, but your games are probably the result of MMR finding opponents at, near, or slightly beyond your skill level. If you find the games that miserable, play in a way so that your MMR drops to a range more comfortable for you.

I'm not saying "make the match impossible to win". What I am saying is that if a killer's win rate is way higher than average, because matchmaking is constantly matching them with survivors that are way below their MMR, that the game should adjust the map generation, to make the matches more fair for the survivors.

Because it's currently not fair for survivors that are barely at the soft cap, to be matched with killers that are way above their MMR.

If pug survivors are facing killers like Momo, no map in DBD is going to save them. What else ya got? lol.

The Void event was more survivor-sided as they could just dip and hide in the Void whenever and could even teleport there midchase to try and lose the killer.

Also the original snowman event was heavily survivor-sided.

The second Snowman event was killer-sided though and while the void event was good for survivors, it didn’t stink for killers either. I’d say it was fairly balanced. Events usually favor killer though.

  • Asking killers to run a perk to counter something survivors do is peak insanity. What do you think this is—survive by daylight?

I always assumed most people used what Otz considered a killer win (either a 4k, or a 3 k with one hatch escape. Anything other then these two specific things is a loss)

I believe the streamers who do the 4K + X amount of gens remaining do so as like an additional challenge. They don’t usually start out that way (at least they haven’t), but I guess after several hundred wins they try to up the ante.

  • I don’t think those killers were intended to 3-gen. That’s just how players have decided to use them.

Not really, because i can't control what other people do, no point in getting upset over it. Also, no i would never leave the game because i believe that leaving the game, or killing yourself on hook should be punishable by ban. Permaban if you do it enough even. Because THAT is what annoys me more than anything.

    Fair enough.

Both sides brought the strongest stuff and were around the same skill level and resulted in what would normally be considered a tie. What is so wrong here? Looks like a balanced match to me.

The survivors who ended Momo’s streak were only able to tie because they stream sniped. They had surveillance on the killer throughout the entirety of the match. And even with that, it was a draw for them; not a win (defined here as a 4E). Not exactly balanced. If they hadn’t stream sniped (which is much more accurate than the clock callouts, obviously) they most likely would have lost.

  • Isn’t the problem Oni, not the perk?

  • @Coffeecrashing said:

The bigger problem is what happens in the future, if there are more invocation perks? This one invocation perk might be underwhelming by itself, but if the game eventually has 4 invocation perks, then it might be worth stacking invocation perks. And it certainly might be obnoxious for the killer if all 4 invocation perks activate at the same time.

I honestly don't know how BHVR could ever balance multiple invocation perks existing at the same time, unless they aren't allowed to be stacked.

If future invocations (frankly, I hope this is the first and last we ever see of this mechanic) are anything like Weaving Spiders, then you’ve nothing to worry about as a killer main.

I don’t think you believe it’s fine. I just wondered how you, as a player, would deal with that specific situation in game. Yes, it’s clear you think the perk is pretty bad. I dont want to sound confrontional but...

This sounds a lot like how survivors are with DH, BT and especially DS. Except the word "basekit" is used more often than when killers complain.

I can’t recall the last time anyone publicly made a statement about DH or BT. No one seems to run BT anymore (do you mean the basekit feature?) and both sides seem mostly comfortable with DH now. DS, the anti-tunnel perk, was unjustifiably nerfed. But the difference at least between BT/DS & Erupt-Over-Brine is that for survivors, those perks allow gameplay. For killers, those perks prevent gameplay. Anything survivors have received basekit is a byproduct of killer mains preventing survivors from playing the game. So really killers only have themselves to blame for the basekit features survivors have received. But none of this says anything about the basekit features/perks killers also received in 6.1.0, now does it?

  • I don’t believe you were working with the killer here. The Mikaela probably didn’t know you’d be in chase or farming for so long. She became suspicious. She may have mistakenly believed the Bubba didn’t down you because you were working together searching for her.

Again, i just told you, that it is likely that the perk will get buffed. But you can't honestly truly believe the devs were like "Hey, lets make a perk that is actually so bad that it helps the killer instead, because ######### those solo queue survivors"

I’m asking how you would specifically deal with a situation like I described with the current version of the perk.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3677488#Comment_3677488

While the perk is weak, its ridiculous to think they they specifically "designed" this perk to be bad to help killers. That is disingenuous. Its a new type of perk, and they are being conservative with it, because they aren't sure how it will go. We will likely see it be buffed a couple of more times before it gets to a good place, and then later when they release new invocation perks we'll see what kinds of things will be unlocked with it.

If you played a solo queue game and had a teammate running this, and the killer had Grim Embrace and Corrupt and the survivor kept restarting to invocation while you repeatedly tunneled or your teammates were tunneled, and then like you all weren’t able to complete any gens and you and this other person are the last two survivors left alive (at 4-5 gens) and they’re still doing the invocation how would you honestly feel/react?

  • It’s cool but I like Haddie-Dredge’s trailer more

if you think adren is overwhelming then something wrong. There shouldn't be 4 adrenalins popping end game if you are a half way decent killer because 4 people shouldn't last that long sounds like skill issue.

Oh, I don’t personally believe Adrenaline to be overwhelming. I was pointing out killer mains have the same attitude about Adrenaline the person I responded to said survivors have about Ultimate Weapon.

Well I don't get that many DCs with her truthfully and when I do get a DC or someone trying to give up I just sorta laugh but whatever

My main love for her is in everything about her. Cool lore, cool design, cool voice, amazing power, I've been a skully fan since her release. No other killer besides maybe Hag has the area control that SM has and not in the way she has it either. I love the web playstyle of getting survivors into an area that they don't know is exactly where I wanted them to go and getting rewarded for playing smart. Regardless of what people say, matches against good survivors as SM are very largely about how well you can play her and how quick you can adapt to the survivors playing and stuff like this is so fun for me.

It wasn't a bad thing that I found some of her perks fun, I just REALLY wish they'd buff Leverage and THWACK! cause THWACK! got outranked pretty quick and Leverage has always been a weak perk that had great potential.

I don’t get a ton of DCs against her either. About as many as I see against any of the killers I like to play (Dredge, Singularity). Not common, just here or there

  • I like the macro-micro game expression. She can be really strategic. It’s like running the board /map. You constantly keep survivors moving, guessing, and on their feet. Yes people quit against her and curse you EGC but so what.

  • ”Why does no one play the 5th or 6th //most popular// killer out of 34 killers?”

How many games did you play without facing a Chucky before you posted this? He’s fairly common.

  • I’ve found that if one triggers the self-unhook it is only because the killer has allowed it.

If you've been running them and a meta Killer and have carries yourself up to an MMR where Survivors can deal with it; then what do you expect will happen when you take it off?

That's the issue right now. A LOT of Killers got very used to Eruption COB and now can't do anything except stack slowdown because they got boosted to way outside their skill.

A point that is never mentioned is those killers who used perks (not skill) to boost themselves now expect that this will continue to work. They’re often the loudest, most abrasive voices in these forums and elsewhere. They don’t really want to get better; they want and expect a trump card—in the form of great perks for killers and a lack of good perks, for survivors—to see them through their matches. Like Erupt-Over-Brine.

I’d get a refund if I could. Look at me now stupid…like I thought eh not the best perk but if you’re doing a broken build, you might could get some juice, but not getting the juice bc the gen is blocked just makes it absolutely worthless in this gen economy.

it feels like I just paid to get spit on.

and I don’t like the feeling, and I’m not a masochist.

Sable exists to sell cosmetics. Period. All three of her perks are just not good. They’re either outclassed by another perk (a free perk at that), really weak, or a killer perk—this one, for instance.

  • It also doesn’t work if the killer has a perk that blocks gens but your character will continue performing the ritual.

It's just funny because they put all this dev time and resources into making stuff like this for no reason. Nobody asked for anything like this perk and the feedback was overwhelmingly negative since the start.

I'm convinced nobody at BHVR actually plays the game outside of Dev Circles cause how does this even get greenlint in the current state of the game for survivor?

    So funny. 🤣🤣🤣

I think perks like this exist to create passive slowdown for killers. It gives survivors something else to do at no real benefit that can be easily destroyed, stopped/interrupted, and hampered by the killer—without necessarily interacting with survivors. When killers say “gens too fast” survivors receive perks like this. That isn’t coincidental.

Also, this may be the funniest post I’ve seen on this forum in years.

Yes, the decay is intended as well.

  • Back on topic, killer perks actually often have more value and practicality than survivor perks. I believe the people who play that role, primarily, are better advocates for the role than people who main survivor which creates this situation.

  • Lmao I love it. This was the ultimate troll move by BHVR. But y’all gone continue buying skins for that lil goth girl aren’t ya?

I'm wondering if some of the playerbase approached her and convinced her she'd been duped or something, and BHVR of course had to assure her that no, that wasn't their intention. I just hope this situation doesn't stop the team from giving more opportunities to trans actors (who notoriously struggle to break out in the entertainment industry). It's hard because BHVR have been able to more or less curb major leaks recently and obviously keeping most of their employees in the dark is how they did it. Obviously the VA was not aware of why she was kept in the dark (or she was but some players have convinced her it was something more nefarious). It seems things are clear to her now and she wants the furore to calm down now.

Yeah someone was able to dig up the deleted tweet and im a bit confused. She seemed a lot more against bhvr at one monent. And was basically trying to turn the witch hunt on them. But i guess the tones changed a bit after they talked?

It’s good that she’s received support from BHVR for the harassment but it seems her initial reaction was hasty and presumptive. She typed that a non-binary voice actor may have been better suited to provide lines for the character (in a tweet I believe she has also since deleted), but now I’m confused why her providing voice lines brought her discomfort. This character isn’t trans or even human. And it certainly isn’t a replica of her personally. She is a character actor and this is a video game monster. Reflecting now I must wonder if maybe she’s somehow intertwining herself into the fabric of the character. I don’t know why it would bother her to provide voice lines for it otherwise.

  • I mean is it ok for a survivor to want to interact with you in a cute, comical way and not want to die?

"in cod lobbies" the second you bring up this argument you lose.

have you considered that there is a world outside of cod lobbies filled with wonderful people and creations and if you went outside and laid on some grass you would come to appreciate the beauty of nature and joy of life and wonders that you can feel when you take a step back away from being chronically online surrounded by anonymous people being their worst selves and quite simply speak to a loved one in person

Wait I’m confused. First she said she was potentially gonna pursue legal action and she felt ’tricked’ by BHVR and stuff but now she’s… saying we should back off because BHVR isn’t responsible for people using the character to harass transwomen?? I’m totally confused now. What exactly is she wanting people to do here? I know she’s saying ‘leave it alone’ but what does that even mean now?

I'd bet that the SWF teams spend the most money on the game in terms of cosmetics as well so BHVR wouldn't want to upset their biggest customers.

Survivor mains in general are a larger source of revenue than killer mains. But the logic of consumerism falls apart when we consider that they’ve made survivor (their largest clientele) a miserable gaming experience. I guess the hope is that if survivors are distracted with cosmetics—like Sable or whatever her name is—they’ll tolerate grueling experiences; I.e. playing the game as survivor.

And now that I think about it, people could also use the ‘pretty woman’ and ‘old lady’ Bubba skins to harass trans people as well.

Exactly right, this rabbit hole runs deep. If the license holder gets wind of this will that justify these being removed as well?

Hypothetically, if the license holders want to avoid controversy they’d pull the character from DBD entirely. Most especially since this would be the second time their character has been involved in a bigotry scandal.

If BHVR can’t handle issues of bullying in house I don’t see TCM letting another Bubba-used-as-a-tool-of-bigotry controversy fester. But as I’d mention earlier people could also use Charlotte and Huntress to harass transwomen.

Bullies could use any feminine character that doesn’t ’pass’ as a cis woman as a catalyst to harass transwomen. And even without those features they can still harass transwomen in other ways. I’m not on board with removing characters or skins because people abuse them. I mentioned earlier that people still harass players for queuing in as Black survivors. I would never support removing Black characters from the game because they’re more likely to be targets of racist cyberbullying. Would you?

  • Does it work throughout the entire game like Ultimate Weapon? Help me see the killer main logic.

First, I agree with you and they should not be removed.

But, to make things right would to bring back the cosmetics wrongfully removed and punish the individuals that harass others instead. Either they reverse what happened last time or be consistent and remove the offending cosmetics.

Being inconsistent in treating the same issue is in my opinion a worse outcome.

They removed all the survivor faces from Bubba, right? Including Meg and Dwight? I get the feeling it came from the license holder—who probably said no unlicensed cosmetics for the character anymore (beyond prestige)—rather than solely BHVR. Because IIRC the creators of Bubba at some point stated they deliberately avoided having him skin any Black people on camera for a very specific reason. And now that I think about it, people could also use the ‘pretty woman’ and ‘old lady’ Bubba skins to harass trans people as well.
