  • There'll probably be some controversy following this, but hopefully it'll turn out better than last year's fiasco.

Any important questions i should throw in for people that don’t have/wanna create a Reddit account?

Newer chapters have leaned more towards licenced additions than original creations as of late, is this going to be the norm going forward?

Help since when was chase music what made a characters genre LMAO and I'm sorry that I dont agree with random redditors and take their word as gospel, a lot of which admitted they dont play or touch horror as a genre period.
And dont act like the sunglasses thing isn't from BHVR being lazy and not just having him be without glasses after he does a mori like be real its not meant to be a cool action thing its literally just BHVR not wanting to create the code to keep his glasses off his face.

"when lara starts falling through warp pipes" I mean we have several in our latest map that DnD brought us so??? And again you guys loooooooooooooooooove missing the entire point huh? One of the worst things about Lara coming is that it shows DbD is moving away from horror in favor of seeing what they can jam into DbD to make the most money which is my point. I don't like the direction they're going in and have been going in this past year of blatantly disregarding horror in favor of money and crossovers.

(Adding, one liners that mind you I'm not a fan of either vs doing a horribly animated leap over every obstacle…I can ignore the one liners I cant ignore the horrid leap lol)

Alright sure man. Coding error is why Wesker has an infinite supply of sunglasses on him and the loudest and most action sounding tr, clearly now it can be entirely overlooked how utterly cartoonish a concept it is that he has them on him. Lara jumping a window differently is action hero garbage but Leon throwing a Flashbang is perfectly on brand for the game? Right. Tomb Raider fans all say 2013 was basically horror? You wanna pretend it's a Mario game in disguise, okay. Idk what to tell you other than there's a reason the devs haven't followed your needlessly arbitrary line of thinking.

Leon is an badass action hero throwing out round houses, so is Lara. The difference would be in tone, if Tomb Raider 2013 wasn't designed to be horror adjacent. So now you're forced to either recognize that you simply have an opinion on Tomb Raider 2013 most don't share, or you could simply keep denying that Tomb Raider 2013 has any horror in it, and I think I know which route you'll go.

If you wanna pretend I'm asking for Mickey Mouse to be added because I don't think a character whose swam through a river of blood to get here is out of place, then I'm sorry, I disagree and I'm glad you don't design the game.

  • New Haddonfield, New Ormand, Toba, and Nostromo are all undiscovered iirc. Haddonfield and Ormand were found but the spot changed after the rework.

Funnily enough, RPD's updated G. Toolbox location was found but the one on the original map still hasn't been according to the wiki.

If I had to guess, the Alien Toolbox could be tied to the Egc timer like Midwich because the ending of the original Alien involved Ripley racing against the clock before the ship self destructed, leading to the wreckage we have in game. Xeno's original washing machine chase music was because the alarm of the ship before it blew up was the main sound effect.

  • I think people are expecting a lot more than what the devs will do. I think he'll eventually get a whole bunch of minor number buffs, QoL changes, and probably reworking at least the Tombstone Add-ons.

Overall, Myers current design fits him perfectly and he's been consistently one of the most popular characters in the game since he came in way back when, so I don't think he'll get too many drastic changes.

although Bubba came with a new Coldwind variant

He came with the Grim Pantry map, which is a swamp variant.

Also licensed maps in general are at risk of potentially getting removed in case the license gets removed too, so original maps are a safer bet to do for BHVR in the end.

My bad, I could've sworn it was a Cold wind map, guess my memory of those times is kinda muddy, pun intended.

True that Licenced maps are at risk of being removed, so I agree that OG maps should get more of the focus. I don't think anybody wants another Hawkins situation. That said, it does kinda make me wonder why Chucky didn't get a map since his licence holders are reputably very friendly.

  • DnD just came with a new licenced map? Characters coming on their own isn't really new either. Bill and Bubba were some of the first things added, and although Bubba came with a new Coldwind variant it wasn't really tied to his release.

The Child's Play 2 Factory would've been cool, and I personally was really hoping for a leviathan map when Hellraiser released, but I think it's fine that every now and then we skip a map (BUT WHY CASTLEVANIA THO).

I think the current issue with licenses it that the community is getting burnt out on them. After Castlevania, we'll have had 7 of our past 10 releases be licenses. Skull Merchant, Singularity, Nic Cage, Alien, Chucky, Alan Wake, Unknown, DnD, Tomb Raider, Castlevania. And keep in mind that two of those three original releases were the oldest on the list. The balance between original and licenced chapters should always lean either on the even side or favoring original. Licences are good, but the more there are the more the OG cast risks getting forgotten if not expanded upon.

Correction I actually hate the action in DBD which is why when more action is brought in IE Tomb Raider it pushes me further away from this game hence why I moved onto TCM mostly. Finnesse alone has brought more action into the game than anything in RE just with that (poorly animated at that) animation. At least flashbang isn't an actual flashbang, blast mine is a trap, and Wesker is a survival horror gaming icon where all of his actual action elements have been essentially removed.

And yes I do because nothing shown takes away from the fact Tomb Raider isn't horror its an action game. Something having minor horror connections again doesn't make it a horror game like??? Why are you guys so desperate to just suck up anything BHVR puts out its unironically proving my point further that DBD is going down the same path as fortnite where its players will just eat up any forcefully shoved in collab they can.

Mario has bones is Mario horror eligible? Spongebob has the hash slinging slasher might as well throw in a spongebob chapter since I guess tiny itty bitty horror connections make something officially part of the horror genre and eligible for DBD

Wesker has no action in him? You mean, you think the literal orchestra he walks around with is horror? And you also think his power is more horror than action? Tell me, since Wesker is so scary, how terrified were you when he pulled out a second pair of glasses after having the first one punched off in his Mori? You know, I think a lot of people would find a killer who has infinite supplies of Sunglasses in their back pocket goofy, but to each their own.

Imma be real bro, saying the bones in Mario are the same as 'Minor' horror connections like 2013 literally being initially designed as a Survival Horror game to the point basically everyone on that thread admitted TR 2013 was horror or horror adjacent really just proves you wanna argue about this more than you wanna make a compelling point. Show Mario falling off a cliff, Lara being mauled by wolves, and Jill being snapped in half by a crocodile and I'm pretty sure you know which two clips are going to be causing more heart rates to rise.

If you want to go in circles in this, go ahead, just don't pretend this is about what fits in DBD. If none of the Action stuff RE brought matters, there is literally nothing Lara has to poison the game, and pretending that Mr Matrix is somehow more fitting than her despite being patently sillier in design and execution really just says that this is about a genre label more than how scary it actually makes the gameplay.

When Wesker stops saying one liners and Lara starts falling through warp pipes, then you'll have a point about what fits. But for as long as I hear "Seven Minutes is all I can spare to play with you." in a match with no seven minute timer whatsoever, you'll never be able to convince me RE hasn't brought more goofy action to this game than the traumatized Island Survivor who cauterizes her own wounds with heated arrows.

  • Extremely concerning. Some clarification is absolutely required for people who have given this game so much of themselves.

Well we didn't get RE5 Chris even as a legendary skin and hes still attached to the most popular survival HORROR video game franchise of all time. Its both the label and the content especially for horror a game genre which is sickeningly underrepresented in gaming as a whole. And mind you using gameplay elements in this argument is entirely null and void because again its about the horror genre as a whole. 99% of fortnite collabs dont fit AT ALL in fortnite and they still shove and force them in anyways which is my point that DBD is heading in that same direction

RE came with Flashbang, Blast Mine, and later Wiretap along with a guy ripped from the Matrix. Whether the label attached to it or not is horror, RE brought more action to DBD than TR ever will just by the nature of game design. I'm confused, you're fine with Action being included in DBD, so long as isn't coming from an Action series? Am I misunderstanding this?

Saying Gameplay mechanics are null and void because this is about the horror genre as a whole is entirely what makes me bored of this convo, because it sees licences as posters on a wall and nothing more. This isn't a game where you buy statues of characters and make them look pretty, it's a game, you play it. We shouldn't be adding licences for the sake of arbitrary nonsense like 'representation' because there will always be more to represent. As I've said earlier, I would appreciate more pillars of the horror genre be included. But that's the thing, isn't it? Horror is fluid, what you consider horror and what others do will vary. For instance,

https://www.reddit.com/r/TombRaider/comments/1dmngh5/tomb_raider_2013_a_horror_game/Do you still want to argue about this being a game with 'horror' connections?

An action hero dying does not mean that they are a horror game character

Right, but making numerous intentionally horrific and scary sequences in said games means it is a game with horror connections, and thus isn't out of place in a horror game?

Chris in RE5 is one of the most plain examples of an action hero I can think of, should RE as a whole have been discounted because parts of it weren't scary?

Is the arbitrary label we attach to the game's genre what matters for inclusion or is it the actual content inside of it that matters? Cause you can put footage of Lara and Jill being mauled side by side next to each other and I don't think a lot of people will tell you only one of the images is horrifying.

Tomb Raider 2013 wasn't trying to be a funny silly action game, it was upsetting, gory, scary at multiples points, and horribly depressing. Regardless of whether anything I just said makes it a 'horror' game or a game with 'horror' connections in your eyes, you can't deny that all of those descriptors are perfect for the world of DBD.

As I've said before, I would rather we get more pure horror licences that are pillars in the genre. F13, Predator, Candyman, FNAF, Amnesia, Slender, Dead Space, etc. all would bang in my opinion. But no, I don't see Lara pissing off an eldritch deity and getting trapped in a purgatory loop of Meg Tbagging and Blight head nods as out of place for her series or for DBD. In fact, it sounds like Tuesday.

  • Extremely useful for Endgame saves, but I'm mostly concerned about how disproportionately this affects M1 killers compared to Blight or Nurse. The top still have little issue tunneling, but now the bottom are going to struggle with that and securing a kill in Endgame.

I think they made the right move in buffing it, and I'd rather it get toned down a bit numbers wise than reverted or left as is.

I think trying to stretch out the last 2 chapter releases as ‘chapters with horror connections’ is really reaching 😭

If you want to believe that, sure. Curse of Strahd was made to teach people how to make horror campaigns in dnd, and Lara got mutilated in ways so bad back in 2013 I can't even describe them here without being banned, but believe what you want. Our experiences ultimately inform how we categorize media, and I've been more than traumatized by TR as a kid, so it makes sense that I would associate the series more with horror than others might.

How would I track Survivor's blood with all that blood everywhere??? Survivor sided suggestion smh.

What if you could now snorkel as killer to surprise survivors? Should even the scale

  • This is the same Lara who had to wade through a river of blood, watch basically all her friends die, and cauterize her own puncture wound with an arrow head she kept under a makeshift fire. She fits just fine imo

  • I grew up with the first survival TR game on the 360, and although it wasn't a horror game, it certainly wasn't straying away from the genre. You could watch Lara dying in any number of ways to make Dead Space swoon. Eviscerated by cave cannibals, smashed flat by rubble, skewered across rebar polls. There was a pool of blood involved somewhere and I distinctly remember almost Lara's entire friend group dying along the way.

I do agree that I'd like it if some more full on Horror Licences got added over IPs with Horror connections, but I'm not mad at these inclusions either.

  • Would be relatively harmless imo, since it's basically the only addon type worth running. If it came with a full on addon pass, I'd be down!

For those interested here is the footage from my Nurse game, and yes I'm aware these aren't the best survivors but its still nurse and its still me winning, each game I played I simply took the result of my first game played. However the game did this multiple times to me during my games where it ended the game for me, but it ended right as I picked the final survivor up so it's a 4k.

I will post each of the 36 games in this thread, they will be going live on my Youtube once a day at 1pm EST, so if anyone is interested you can see the games here.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b45fiBlnyhE

I agree with your overall points and ambitions, but I don't think this really proves anything other than human players can sometimes be actively worse than bots. There were gens left untouched in areas you never went too, Survivors basically standing still in areas they had no reason to be standing still in, Claire literally ran right into you at one point despite having direct LoS for some reason. I'm sorry, but anyone who remembers the W key would've utterly cleared you here.

I mean, take 8:30 for instance. Both Claire and Ellen have ample distance and speed to just walk away from you but Claire ran straight into a tree and Ellen got back on the gen right next to you while in lunging distance and with literally nothing to stop you from seeing her.

This isn't a knock against you or your morals, but these survivors have made this match meaningless to analyze critically simply because there were almost no correct plays made from them this match aside from the initial gens they managed to get done without issue.

  • I wanna see this Nurse game, do you have footage by chance?

  • I don't think Scamper Pallet was good for the game and I'm glad it's gone. They should give Chucky back Scamper Vault then rework his scamper addons to be not entirely useless.

  • There's aot of discourse here over a change that'll hardly ever matter imo. It just means a neat atmosphere part of the game is gone while also ensuring killers won't have to deal with certain survs running straight into dead zones the moment they get in chase.

An eye for an eye, so I have no real sway.

  • Gideon can feel like a walking simulator if survivors just start throwing pallets

  • He could use a couple numbers tweaks and maybe a cooldown between Overcharges, but he's basically perfect just the way he is.

I'm still kinda new to dbd is there a separate roadmap from the anniversary one?

There's a roadmap for general release changes over the year. Perk changes, killer reworks, QoL, just a lot of the big mechanical stuff outside of chapters and events and whatnot. Compared to last year, they've decided to hold off a bit on releasing it if my memory serves right. Hopefully we'll see it in the not too distant future.

    Bad math is bad.

40% escape rate means survivors average 40 wins per 100 attempts (25 matches) while killers get a 60% kill rate, so they'll average 60 kills in 25 matches, or 2.4 kills a match. 2 kills is a draw, 3 is a win, so in theory there is a 40% chance of a killer to win any given match.

Also, including the mess of afk and 8 hook killers, a 60% kill rate translates closer to 70-80%.

There's a reason I don't use toxic tactics, and often keep my music running as killer... it's so easy it's almost boring most matches.

Kill rate isn't win rate, keep in mind that hatch kills don't count and that there a lot of win spreads affecting the kill rate without explicitly contributing to the win rate despite adding to the escape rate. If you count 2 kills as a tie, then a 1k is adding a number to the kill rate despite the killer not winning, and dividing everything neatly by four doesn't work when the fourth survivor only sometimes counts towards escape and kill rates.

These variables don't convert that simply.

  • I'm praying he'll be on the roadmap this year, whenever that comes out.

  • Very strange Nerf, I wonder why FotD specifically was a ln issue in the devs eyes, but Mage Hand deserved to be brought more in line with his other options imo, except the Vorpal Sword nerf, that was just kinda unnecessary.

What is that Ring rework? Like seriously, ten percent? Be real BHVR, nobody is running fun was sized Superior Anatomy.

  • Huntress and Deathslinger, to turn the whole map into a shooting gallery. Clown and Huntress also sounds extremely lethal in the right hands.

  • @Rythoriak said:

I ffeel everyone thinks the 2 killer combination will be OP but what will actually happen is 8 brand new parts world record.

It's been mentioned there's a class system in place for survivors, meaning items and likely add-ons are being handled differently. Killer's don't appear to have addons, instead being given team abilities. Basically, you probably won't be able to bring a single Bnp, much less eight. Even if you could, that still leaves 4 entire gens to complete plus the ones with Bnp on them.

they changed the rules for scamper. previously, chucky could manually scamper. Now it is only in ability. They simply forget to change the rule for windows after changing it for pallets. This changes makes sense and aligns with the change.

The cooldown change DOES NOT make sense because the entire goal of this change was to reduce chucky's power cooldown. He doesn't have power-recovery add-on like Spirit. The cooldown always started at the start of his dash meaning he had 15 second cooldown. Now he has somewhere between 8-10 second cooldown allowing Chucky to his power for mobility and go for risky hit plays. The change they are planning will ruin Chucky if it gets implemented.

I know why they removed Scamper Vault, that doesn't mean it made sense. Scamper Pallet needed to go because it broke the way loops are designed and Chucky could guarantee hits easily with it, Scamper Vault was a quieter vault. It was the only way to do double vault back mindgames with Chucky, and now that skill expression is removed because a largely unrelated ability happens to share it's name. It wasn't an issue, and having the regular vault during hidey ho actually conflicts with him being stealthier during power since it plays a vault noise. As well, it isn't necessarily like Scamper Vault is useful when attached to slice and dice. What good is a quieter vault when 2 foot tall Danny Devito is screaming his bloody lungs out, y'know? I completely understand why Scampering manually under pallets needed to go, but doing the same to vaults completely ignored the reason they were implemented in the first place.

The cooldown for power being 12 seconds is actually relatively balanced give how versatile the power is imo. I would glad take this change in exchange for some of his stealthier aspects returning. Plus, once the change goes through and the addon is reverted, Power Drill puts the cooldown at 10.2 seconds. That's fine with me, especially since currently Chucky just feels like Slice and Dice the killer and a shorter cooldowns just makes that more true. Getting power back faster after dash just makes you want to dash more, instead of taking advantage of undetectable.

  • As a modifier or something? Go nuts. For regular play? That'd majorly ruin game balance.

  • Man, they keep giving him sudden nerfs and then calling them bug fixes. I'm still more salty over Scamper Vault being removed tbh, there was no reason for that. This is fine, but it's insulting that they change these two add-ons while leaving all of the Scamper ones they gutted untouched.

  • @Devil_hit11 said:

doesn't that make deliverance an instant-kill?

If used right before hitting stage two, it seems so. Wicked too, so it looks like that'll be something to look out for in lobby screens if equipped.

  • From the recent patch notes.

"Killers with the Ivory Memento Mori Offering can Mori Survivors on the 1st Hook stage when they self-unhook at the very last second."

What do we think of this change? It doesn't seem like it'll come into play 99% of the time and it's only really useable in the event a survivor gets a late stage 4%. I suppose you could say it's the ideal counter to the Slippery Meat/Salty Lips SWF combo, but do you really see that often enough to actively choose to plan around it? Regardless, I bet it'll show up in more than a few DBD funny moments compilations.

  • Down with this, but maybe to make it more interesting the 4th perk slot could be a general perk chosen by the player?

Artist players will find this hilarious.

  • Lethal Pursuer works with Weave? News to me, honestly kinda wanna try that now lmao. The combo you're describing is 3 perk slots, isn't it? I can't imagine this effect is worse than 3 slowdowns, which is much more common and much more asinine if you ask me.

Weave had a lot of conversations on this subject, I think it's getting a bit old. This'll be the talk of the town, then it'll fade to just a neat meme build with some actual gameplay potential.

  • Actually evil, but it needs Purple and Green Windstorm to truly reach its potential.

Maybe you are playing at extremely low MMR literally no one bother to play seriously, we never know

Saying that to someone with roughly 30x your posts is kinda wild. I don't know this player at all, but skill issue doesn't seem like the best call. Attempting to devalue their credibility instead of their argument only makes them sound more right.

  • Deathbound is so uncommon that most survivors don't know how to play around it or just choose not to, and the effect of oblivious for a full minute can be incredibly useful. I like tacking it on complicated killers to overwhelm survivors, and I've found a lot of use with it on Vecna. Give it a shot, you'll be surprised how often you see it come into play!

  • If a killer can't stop a survivor team from resetting, I feel like that's indicative of an issue with healing speed more than it is healing amount. Nobody ever saw a survivor heal in 5 seconds and said 'they should be allowed to do that 6 more times' the same way people don't see the current healing speeds and say 'that needs to be limited.' Old CoH would be stupid even with a heal limit, the same way 40% Pain Res would be busted with the current regression limit.

The reason why Gen regression should be limited is that gens are on fixed points on the map, allowing a killer to plan around taking advantage of a 3 gen and consistently patrolling them to stop survivors, whereas survivors healing is dependent on their location. If survivors are healing, it means they're being hit, which means they should be also being hooked, which is limiting resets via the three strikes rule. If the survivors aren't being hooked, that would either be because of killer misplay or something else going on, being either survivors simply outplaying the killer or a broken something/exploit. Either way, that isn't a reason for a heal limit.

TLDR, gens and healing are very different. There's no reason to conflate the two together.

  • Pain Res is still the best I think as it doesn't require a killer to deviate much from their usual tactics to get value out of. Surge is goated on M1 Killers for value, and excels on Indoor Maps which is always a bonus. Corrupt is free and is a godsend when you're struggling, as is Deadlock. Grim Embrace and Dead Man's are pretty nice to have too. Eruption is underrated too, especially when combined with other perks like Nowhere to Hide/Unforseen.

Overall, there are still a lot of useful regression perks, even though I don't really bother with Pop anymore. I still wish they buffed some, but whatever. Thrilling Tremors really doesn't need the cooldown.

Honestly, Ive never seen this happen. Like I have played Mario Party with friends and it is normally really, really chill.

Ive heard people get upset over it but Ive never actually seen it myself, Idk if that makes me lucky or not or something.

Mario Party was quite literally banned in my household from family game night when I was younger because of how heated it could get compared to other games. I know my anecdotal evidence doesn't really add any credibility to the argument logically speaking, but trust me, dueling in Mario Party 8 (which was basically chance time) has made more than a few Wii motes meet an early end.

The newer games are a lot more tame, for better or for worse, although as of late have gotten a bit of bite back. Regardless, I'd still definitely call both DBD and Mario Party party games. If you look outside the community, there's a lot of people who play DBD without ever really trying to get seriously into it just so they can hop into custom games as Myers and co. to spook their friends. I think that's one of the most pure examples of a party game there is tbh, although naturally all of our different personal experiences likely influences what media we'd put into that category. I have been playing DBD since around 9 or 10 after all.

  • I honestly think Franklin's and Weave Attunement is fine, it's just annoying to face. I understand why people don't like it, since it robs you of your item, makes you need to get rid of it so Weaving doesn't screw you, then adds oblivious to be the cherry on top.

I don't think any of those effects are overpowered for a double perk combo, especially with the other options available, but speaking from experience, yeah, it's frustrating.

  • How many of these threads do we need? Look, if you want to pretend that BHVR didn't majorly buff Vecna from the PtB, fine. If you want to pretend this relatively minor nerf to mage hand is evidence of premeditated sabotage from the people who couldn't tell PtB Twins was busted, also fine. Just please do it on the various threads that already exist on the subject.

  • I am willing to bet money they simply forgot to include this for him. Twins Players really can't catch a break.

  • No one puts it better than ole Sharp Hand Joe himself:

    wouldnt-it-be-cool-if-freddy-krueger-was-in-dbd-they-could-v0-gl7499pp6pjc1.jpeg
  • It feels like the worst of both worlds. An absolutely godawful inside with loops that would make RPD Blush, and an outside area with so few good pallets and constant 4 gens that make it feel more like you're playing as an NPC in Splatter house than a survivor in DBD.

They need to majorly trim the the outside area and tighten up the loops, then redesign the dungeon to be more manageable. The map is visually stunning, but the design team really needs to study what makes the current loops work before doing these constant experiments.

  • In all fairness, you could apply this logic to killer perks just as much as survivor perks. NoeD rewards the killer for losing, Sloppy does a fantastic job limiting healing for just a basic attack reward, Deadlock punishes survivors for getting multiple gens progressed, Corrupt is literally just free early game pressure, Lethal Pursuer as a concept.

Idk, I feel this is less a of a sides issue and more of just how the game is balanced. As for Pop specifically, I can't run it by itself anymore , as it doesn't give enough regression to be worth taking over the alternatives. The nerf is fine in the context of Pop being with 3 other slowdown perks, but I'd rather run Beast of Prey or godforbid Knockout before resorting to those tactics. Ultimately, I'd rather this nerf be here than not since it means I've gotten to see some of the weirder regression perks since the change. It feels nice breaking a Ruin Undying again rather than just taking a nap whenever a hook happens and Grim Embrace, Dead Man's, Pop, and Pain Res all activate.
