I just don't really see what this adds to him. Shortens the skill cap, is more detrimental as a strategy than regular gameplay, rewards poor shots. It just doesn't seem like a good idea. I'd prefer he gets more QoL and maybe even a passive ability. That'd be neat.
Overall, he's fine. Map dependent, but fine. Could use a few add-ons being reworked.
-
Lame that the crow charm is exclusive to this system, but I trust the DBD content creator space infinitely more than BHVR, so this is a net positive in my book.
-
I swear I thought it was just me it is literally every game every god Pallet gen grab every killer it's ALL RPD AND I CANT DO IT ANYMORE SQUIDWARD I WANNA GO HOME
-
I like the sillier colabs like Nic Cage, he's fun and his perks are some of the most interesting in the game.
DnD definitely isn't traditional horror, but Liches are an incredibly common fantasy horror trope, and Vecna is one of the most iconic Liches from one of the most iconic fantasy ips of all time, so this honestly feels almost right at home as an inclusion.
No, he's not on the Podium of the horror hall of fame or whatever, but let's be so real right now, neither was Wesker, and both of these guys are cool, so I'd rather they be here than not.

Look at the trailer. The castle in the background is the game castle. Not that lame building from the show. And games have far more lore and depth than the show btw (collectively) , you can spend some time on the wiki , there is a lot of fun reads there. The show started great but plunged into a deranged fever dream of Warren Ellis that no longer had anything to do with the franchise. The sequel with Richter went light years further from the source material than the first series.
I haven't seen the new show tbh, just the old one. I quite liked it for what it was, but it wasn't anywhere near what the games were going for storywise.
I know there's a bunch of lore in the old games, I'm quite well versed in the series, it's just that you can watch the Castlevania show and you get four seasons and a sequel for story entirely. The classic Castlevania games have a lot of lore, but when you play the games themselves? Well, it isn't exactly Shakespeare. There are a bunch of meme lines from the games, so I guess it's like RE in that regard. The Gameboy Advance and DS games were also good storywise, but aside from them, the Castlevania series is more known for it's gameplay, aesthetic, oneliners, music, than it is the actual lore.
Just to clarify, I don't think the fact we're getting the game versions is bad, this is still a completely badass inclusion, I just have my preferences.

I would prefer to stick to the source material of the games. I didn't care for the show.
The roadmap shows no map for the Castlevania update, which sucked all hype for the chapter out of me.
I personally loved the show, though it was very removed the main series in tone and story so I get wanting to stick to the games. In terms of power design, I hope Dracula gets his classic fireballs, among his other iconic abilities. He'll probably get the negation ward Vecna did, regardless of which version they include.
It really does suck that there's no map, it still feels like a weird decision that Vecna got an original magic Castle made just for him but the series literally named after it's iconic magic Castle couldn't get one.

I remember people defending stretch resolution. Very cringe
People defend everything in this game, I even got into an argument with someone recently who said the Potential Energy exploit was fine because 'gens could once be completed faster' which is funny because gens could literally be insta completed with old old bnp if I remember right.
-
It feels like I get a spike of really obvious cheaters every now and then and a few that I can't really tell if it's me being paranoid or not, then it all goes back to normal for a while until the next time. Probably just my imagination, but it feels like this happens in waves.

It’s always weird to me that players expect others to play out an entire match like they signed a contract stating that they HAVE to finish that game or else there will be dire consequences. It’s a video game, not work. If I’m not having fun, I’m out. I’m not going to be some killer main’s toy to take their real life frustrations out on.
Everyone warned BHVR this would happen when they removed old hatch but they didn’t listen. Survivors need a reason to keep trying and right now, there’s none
I'm sorry mate, if you aren't having fun playing the game, just walk away. There's a lot to see in this life, I can't imagine you're getting much from a game you can't help but rage quit to the point you consider it "work."
Personally, I consider getting berated at McDonald's by a bunch of grown adults work, but sure, you got a Blight match, clearly BHVR needs to rework the entire game just to convince you to keep playing it.
No, nobody put a waiver in your hands and made you play Monopoly, but flipping the board before you get bankrupted and saying "I'm not having fun anymore" is a pretty cool way to lose all your friends, so I don't know why you expect strangers on the Internet to be nicer to you in that regard.

Your right about it not being strong enough, in fact, it should also now stay active even when doing objectives, like generators, healing, etc.
And it should also open the exit gate for you and revive teammates, but only after it doxes the killers IP address and alerts the local authorities of their illegal cheese smuggling business.
-
@Strodie A 2 minute timer with a 10 second stun that then disables killer power for 5 seconds after? Not strong enough mate, it oughta disconnect my controller and kick my dog too
-
If the Entity is picking it's most dangerous and reliable killers:
Onryo (Psychically powerful, loyal)
Pyramid Head (Godly powerful, loyal)
Nemesis (Brute Force Power, Loyal)
Unknown (Weird Powers, Unpredictable) Sort of like an Ace in the hole.
Blight (Brute Force Power, Controlled, highly intelligent) depends how much agency the Entity gives him.
Oni (Trained Fighter, Extremely Strong, Smart, Rage Comeback mechanic)
Honorable Mention to Vecna, who tops everyone else in terms of power but is so untrustworthy I don't think he'd be good to have. The Entity could probably just airdrop him into most situations and they'll usually clear themselves out. Wesker is the same thing but with less power.
-
Probably just a better Deathslinger tbh. Harder to hit projectile, but more range, wallbangs, automatic reload, an entire secondary teleport ability. It'd probably be more popular in pickrate, but it's stepping a little too much into another killers niche imo
I still think it'd be cool if it got an Addon that disabled UVX and buffed Hallucinations spawn and cap rate. It'd be neat flavor of the killer with a lot of different potential builds.
-
It's always weird to me that players think they need to be convinced to keep playing a game they signed up for. If you DC that often, that's on you, don't be surprised that other people are salty you decided to flip the board when you left.
DBD matches aren't that long, even the ones that really drag out last like 15-20 minutes at most, unless the other side is actively trying to take the game hostage.

Well guess I just have had the worst luck then bc 90% of matches have felt like uphill battles as killer and honestly it no different from normal in how stressful and bad it feels to lose to that. I think that is why I don't like the idea of casual or ranked bc no more what mode you que for 90% of your matches will still feel the same and feel unfair/unfun. I don't mind losing don't get me wrong but I hate losing when the match is completely one-sided. I feel the same way about winning as will, it not fun to win a one side match either. My matches in the new mode still felt like making matches in normal. Competely one-sided match where all the fun was sucked out in mere minutes of loading in.
Its the main reason I dont play dbd as much anymore and playing OW2 more. My matches for the last year have felt the same and this new mode nothing really has changed. It used not feel like this, when I started playing back when the first RE chapter came out, my matches felt even and fun. I used to have so much fun and could play for hours. Now I can barely do one single match before I say ######### it and log off. I dont know if its because Im a high mmr or its because I have over 1000s hours but the game just isnt fun for me and I hate it so so so much. I want to have fun with dbd, I want to play it but the results is always the same when I try to play it…
I think you might just be burnt out on the game tbh. Regardless of the random perks, this is still DBD, with all the boons and curses that come with it. If even just a match is enough for you to call it a night, maybe it's time to take a break? I've been here since launch, and ended up taking a somewhat substantial break when Twins released. After returning the game has felt fresh and I don't feel as inclined to take things as seriously as before, because it's simply the nature of the game.
So in short, "maybe you are just tired, play something else for a week. Try Civilization or something."
-
They could close the gap by updating the UI and showing stuff like teammate perks and whatnot. Guess we'll get an update in the coming years though.

Really? I found the mode more stressful especially as killer. Alot of my matches as killer while I was trying to finish the challenge felt just as stressful and sweaty as normal DBD. Sure I didn't have to deal with some of the annoying survivor perks but most groups still came in with the best medkits and toolboxes. Gens still felt like they flew by. I was so stressed out honestly especially when I got perks like insidious...
Maybe I've just been getting more favorable matches, but I think the lack of gen slowdown is balanced a little by survs not being able to control whether they have exhaustion perks or other strong options like Deli or Unbreakable. 4 Toolboxes is always scary, but I honestly feel like I've got more going for me than before considering I hardly ever run more than one or at most two slowdown perks at a time.
But yeah, sometimes you have your bad games where the survs bring out the big guns itemwise and get good perks, meanwhile the game gives you Shattered Hope for the third time in a row (seriously what were the chances of that) although I'd say the fact this is a more casual mode has generally just decreased the feeling to rush all the time. It's part of why I'm slowly warming more and more up to the idea of a casual and ranked que.
-
There's a lot less stress and responsibility while playing since you don't really get to decide your kit before going in, I'm hooked tbh
-
Unless it's for Predator, I don't think Survivors should be able to properly fight killers, it's just not in the spirit of the game.
-

BHVR needs to learn that 30 seconds is too weak for most status effects. Oblivious and Blindness perks should last longer like how Mangled is now. Oh no I can't hear the TR for a little while, how terrible, whatever will I do…
True, especially since Oblivious will proc a maximum of one time per decent survivor using WA, since it has a tell it's in use.

A health update license. This game need FIXING!!!
I hear this all the time and it just isn't practical. There's so many people on payroll at BHVR who's specific job it is to brainstorm and realize new content, what are they all going to do during this 3 month period?
Furthermore, how does BHVR, a company who relies on DBD for almost all their income and growth, going to justify this to their investors? How will they justify it to the players who do want new content? There's 60 million people playing the game, how many will walk out when you announce there won't be a full chapter for another 6 months?
Yes, BHVR needs to hire more bug fixers and presumably better fund efforts to improve game health. No, they probably cannot afford to go an entire chapter with no revenue, and as such an Operation Health would be a bad idea.

I did some thinking and I really feel like Jason could come in for Year 9, which I'm more than ok to wait. It's either that or March, but March is only a Killer, and we at least need Camp Crystal Lake too.
In terms of Art, I thought of an idea of him being a snowball killer, eventually being able to get a gun, but I feel like it's really dumb. Still would be fun though lol
I agree, it'd be a bit of a bummer to finally get Jason after all these years and it's just a solo killer. He's definitely an inclusion that would benefit from the full chapter treatment. A Camp Crystal Lake Map would be beautiful, and imagine all the secrets they could include. Finding his Shack in the woods would be sweet.
Art is the exact kind of Killer who'd get a weird snowball centric power, he'd fit like a glove in the game imo.
-
Chucky main here, this isn't a hard nerf. Yes losing scamper was big, but it feels so good to get such a versatile power back so fast I'm honestly fine with it.
-
@Gmoore23 said:
Both licenses and original content have their places. Licenses are good for getting more people to at least try the game, while original content is good for both the devs, since they get to show their creativity, and the established community, because we get to be a little more focused on the pluses and minuses as compared to the "holy cow, it's that character" kinda thing.
That said, I would cry joyfully if Terrifier or Jason got added to the game, though one is much more likely than the other.
Art would be a sick killer, although I wonder what sorta weird power they'd give him. Maybe just a tommygun?
Jason is a must have now that he's back on the table. He's basically the face of the horror pantheon and is one of the last to join it.
-
I think I'd rate Ambush over Demanifest as a Stealth Mechanic and Beartraps over condemned in terms of a pressure tool. Sadako has better map control because of her tp, so def keep that in mind!
Overall, I think Pig's better add-ons give her the edge, but it's up to you!
-
@SMitchell8 said:
SO what will he do? Just m1 without a power as he doesn't have anything. Just Trapper without the bear traps.
I'd imagine he'd have a rage mechanic, maybe the ability to swap weapons with different properties and hotboxes, his tendency to disappear and reappear at the most opportune moment, his stealthy way of navigating through each cast individually before they even realize it.
He does also use bear traps btw, not that it really matters. There's things he can do. I'd almost bet on him being designed as a killer that starts as an ambush Ghostface like killer and slowly progresses into a more enraged, pallet muncher like Nemesis as the match progresses. It represents his tendency to pick people off quietly whilst also eventually unveiling his inner rage and headon rampage. I'd get hyped for that.
-
Wraith with the right add-ons can actually be pretty nutty, but right now I'd give it to Chucky regardless of whether we talk about the live version that can scamper or the PTB that gets Slice and Dice every 12 seconds.

It had an open beta that got decent coverage before petering off, I believe this the proper launch.
-
I bet he'll be the anniversary release for Year 9. Imagine a Camp Crystal Lake mapppppppp I need this collab. Jason also has a fair amount of potential for a power, and Tommy Jarvis would a great surv.
We'd have almost almost the full pantheon of big horror icons aside from a few names. Jason is arguably the biggest name on the list, it'd be crazy to see him finally make his way over.

You asked in your OP if certain fans could be detrimental to the game, and I honestly feel like FNAF falls into that category. I read that majority of FNAF players are mostly between the ages of 12 and 17. Not that it doesn't have adult fans, because of course it does, lots of adults grew up on FNAF and that's cool. But I really don't wanna be playing with 12 year olds. Or more 12 year olds at any rate, because the way some people behave in this game I'm convinced they're no older than that anyway. My kids have been massive FNAF fans for a few years now (they're 9 and 7) and so it's kind of hard for me to see FNAF as anything but a kids game. They have the legos, plushies, and books, and all the marketing is towards kids.
But yeah, I do think there's plenty of horror video games that could crossover into the game easily. I don't mind the occasional non horror chapter though, as long as it's fun. And this upcoming chapter actually looks like a heap of fun.
Very true, I won't deny that FNAF still has a lot of child players and fans, but after DnD, which tends to target much the same audience, I honestly don't think it'd be an issue if the devs aimed this specific collab at the more mature audience of fans.

Considering the absolute incursion we got here when there was even the slightest sliver of a chance that FNAF could get in, I'm gonna disagree.
It was hell for a solid month here. It got so bad that the subreddit started banning any and all mention of FNAF. Maybe it's not you, but it seems to be the VAST majority of fans.
True, it's been an issue in the past, but I think nowadays I see less and less pushback, moreso just jokes about the sometimes frankly silly fan theories people make for Springtrap. FNAF was banned on the reddit awhile back, but wasn't that explicitly not signed off on by anyone actually employed by BHVR and then rolled back with a swift apology wherein it was found that a select few mods would consistently rudely hop into arguments and escalate them? I feel like there was a lot going on there that wasn't really tied to the community at large but I understand, there's been a lot of Drama in the community over the years, same as DBD.
I honestly think that if the collaboration did happen, a whole bunch of people would call it the death of the game and then it'd come out and nothing would really change. Bare in mind that FNAF has evolved as much if not more than DBD has over the years and that there are a lot more adults in the community than before. I went from playing it when it came out when I was 8, and this year I'll be voting in my countries next election.

I don't think Creepypasta's are really horror in the same way that movies are.
FNAF needs to stay out of this game, respectfully. We don't need that community in addition to our own.
I'm fine with horror adjacent titles, like Stranger Things or DND; but I think that's as far as we should go.
I think a Creepypasta would be fine now that Unknown is based primarily off them. Especially since stuff like Wesker and Lich already challenge what exactly makes a DBD killer a DBD killer. Slender or Marble Hornets would make for a fantastic inclusion imo.
Respectfully disagree about Five Nights. I don't think most people realize that the majority of FNAF drama is basically just Twitter weirdos, which you can say about basically any fandom, especially stuff like Stranger Things, which is already in the game.
The kids who are into FNAF for the theories don't even tend to play the games themselves, so the chances they'll ever get into DBD, a non canon collab, is minimal. That just leaves the only ones from the fandom being the people who care mostly about the gameplay and aesthetic, which I can say from experience don't really cause trouble, at least not anymore than the DBD community. As someone who's been apart of both communities since they started, I don't think there's much of a risk with the inclusion.

An item that ONE OF FOUR survivor can steal from the SINGLE killer? Sounds balanced 😂
Right, because it'd presumably be harder for a killer to get it from a survivor than the other way around. Clearly this hypothetical concept with no real structure or elaboration should be dismissed entirely because you pointed out that this is an asyemetrical game. Thanks for the input.
-
@Pulsar said:
I'm fine with the split we have now for licensed vs original.
I think that it would be unrealistic to expect BHVR to go after licenses that they don't expect to make a return on investment.
There are definitely certain licenses that should not be added.
What do you think of BHVR's current focus on licences that aren't entirely horror? I'd personally prefer we get some more core properties before expanding into the weirder stuff, although I do appreciate the current collaborations.
I think that Video Game horror especially could use some more reps, which is another reason why Castlevania is cool (aside from the fact it just rocks). Dead Space, Amnesia, Slender (he kinda counts), FNAF would all be pretty sweet in my eyes.
-
I'm definitely agreeing with the secondary objective, maybe an item of sorts that buffs whatever team holds it and there's something each side can do to steal it back. That would maybe slow matches a bit and give players more chances to interact before the trial is decided.
-
They oughta reshrink his TR and maybe increase his shot hitbox a little. It'd be nice if maps were maybe altered slightly when he's the killer to make little gaps in the environment for cool shot moments, but honestly he doesn't need anything too big after the buffs. I just want his old TR back and I'd be satisfied.
-
They'll probably give a form of it Basekit then nerf the Addon, as they've done with other killers. Hopefully he gets a full Addon Pass before the 10 year anniversary.
-
It just feels overtuned tbh, and currently not nearly enough of a risk or commitment for the potential reward it provides of halting the killer from progressing their objective. We can argue over whether or not this is bias, but you should expect to hear opinions you don't agree with.
-
There's also a 'team power' of sorts for killer, so we'll see where that goes. Hopefully they add more and more killers quickly, it can't be that hard.
-
Slice & Dice is much better as a map traversal tool, and his stealth feels great now that you get it back so much faster, but I'll miss Scamper for convenience on things like the Game. Is it a nerf? Yeah. Is he still A tier? Yeah. Is he healthier for the game? Definitely. This is a W in my book.
-
Honestly, yeah. If a killer could technically 'win' the trial without killing a player, there might be less incentive to be toxic in the match. 12 hooks are extremely satisfying, and it might be better health wise to incentivise an 8 hook over a 3k.

Cause Capcom decided on that situation. Considering we got birkin and hunk then they're on good terms.
If the devs asked for more Nemesis cosmetics, as they were presumably the ones who pitched doing Blighted Designs, there's nothing to suggest they wouldn't get Nem's old design, so I wonder why we haven't gotten it.
Capcom was fine giving other characters classic skins too, what stopped Nemesis from getting that same attention?
-
He needs a Licker, a Rocket Launcher, and a Flamethrower. There is a DnD Lich on the roster, they aren't out place.
I hope he gets a classic skin and maybe even a bag head too, cause seriously, why does he only have two cosmetics?

My only issue here is that cheating always has a negative connotation, and the headset as well as the mode are obviously legal and allowed to be used in games, since that is the purpose of the feature. But by stretching the definition of cheating to be as far fetched as to reach out to allowed programs, hardware and what not just feels like people that have that stuff are getting shamed into not using it just because others are not happy with what is allowed and what is not.
But sure I guess there is no point in further explanations on this topic. Guess we will see what the future brings and if this features makes it a basekit thing in the next generation of headsets.
Right, because I care how a multibillion dollar corporation like Microsoft or multimillion dollar corporation like BHVR defines cheating. Going further, do I care how my countries congress defines cheating? Definitely not. I won't bother getting political, but don't tell me to let someone else define the subjective in my viewpoint.

What exactly makes it unfair? Does not everyone have the option to just buy certain hardware? Also what is the standard hardware that is not unfair, how good or bad is my headset allowed to be to not give me an unfair advantage?
Poor people. This game costs fifteen dollars and is on sale often, I've been getting by mostly on Iri shards since they were introduced and before that I just didn't have the fun stuff.
Your headset is allowed to be as good as you want, so long as it doesn't have a built in secondary mode specifically designed to give you a mechanical advantage in the videogame, such as described in the post. Hell, I'm even cool with the headset in the post being used so long as the secondary mode is off, since then it isn't functioning in a way specifically designed to give them an advantage.
So, that's my stance. I know yours, I doubt you'll change mine, do you want split hairs more or are we done here? Cheating is ultimately defined by dishonesty and unfairness, something that varies depending on each person's view, so don't be surprised that there is no general consensus.
-
It isn't cheating by BHVR'S rules because there's no way they'd be able to enforce it, but let's be real, this is an unfair advantage unlocked by paying for an outside piece of tech. Software or Hardware, it's cheating. You could do it if you want ig, but please don't.
