lots of killers needing some love. including our favorite cyborg.

as I said in another discussion. do not like that it's WotC at all. don't wanna give them money, don't want them here. hate that money that I gave to dbd was potentialy used to get this deal.
to me this chapter is already a failure and can not become good.

Well, it sounds like we almost agree, save for saying that balancing for everyone is impossible. It's not, it's just difficult- and it's still necessary.
Players aren't going to have fun if they're facing things that are too strong for them to reasonably deal with outside of just investing thousands of hours into the game. That is relevant to a studio's balancing efforts, it can't be ignored.
it is. people with too varied skill level are not gonna find common ground on balance. ask just about any FGC player how they feel about any grappler and you'll see.
but it's not necessary. new and non competitive players just wanna have fun.
and you change that when it happens, but keeping it balanced for the top.
fun is for everyone, but you focus "fun changes" on the bottom. because the top will find their fun simply by the game being balanced properly. so you must focus the balance changes on the top.

Being fun for the entire playerbase is the only goal, and being balanced is the way you get there most of the time- obviously there's other factors at play.
The fact of the matter is, you can never ignore any section of the playerbase. You have to keep all of them in mind for every change and make sure you've got a good amount of changes that'll affect each skill range positively, where applicable. If that sounds nightmarishly difficult, welcome to game design.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3715137#Comment_3715137
This is a great example. Would there be anything wrong with that change? Nope!
As long as other changes come out that would more positively affect lower skill levels and not affect high levels. In other words, as long as it's part of an overall mindset of balancing for the entire game, not just the top. "Trickle down" doesn't work, direct actions will always be needed. All skill ranges are always important and none can be overlooked.
the only goal is making money. let's be honest.
and making it fun is how you do that.
making it balanced is how you keep players in after the initial part and they learn how the game works.
fact of the matter is that you should not change what I'm arguing for. never said to ignore anyone.
I'm saying you balance for the top. because that's where you can find balance. you can never balance for the entire playerbase, and it's insane to even try.
were you actually trying to scare me with that? I literaly said to do that…
-
@jesterkind said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3715119#Comment_3715119
Why?
What would that actually achieve? Wouldn't you inevitably end up in situations where something's too strong for the majority of players but only decently strong for the top, and therefore statistically everyone just has to deal with something being OP because the top players don't struggle against it?
You balance for everyone. It's the only way live service games can work, not exclusively DBD.
achieve the goal of almost every mp game. the game is both balanced and fun. no bs at the competitive level and you can join in at any skill level and have a good time.
you could run into those, you could also run into a falling meteor tomorrow. do you have a practical example?
and that would be affecting the fun right? it needs to be fun at the bottom while balanced at the top, so some change would need to happen.
no system will ever happen without finding issues, pretending one hypothetical issue means it's useless is just arguing in bad faith.

No, you balance for everyone.
I personally do believe some things should be done to address problems at the top, but their absence from this patch doesn't mean this patch is inherently going to break the game for those players. Those at the top will still have good viable options to win their games if they're of equal skill level to their opponent, just like everyone else.
Also, to address the video you've posted twice now: My experience with watching DBD content creators - and to be fair I don't watch that many - is that they don't do a very good job of acknowledging their inherent bias when it comes to their own experiences. That might be true for Scott because he plays the game for a living very regularly, but it's definitely not true for the vast majority of the playerbase, no matter how any individual player might feel.
absolutely not. you balance for the top.
you just make it fun for the bottom.
-
not happy about it… WotC is not a company I wanna give money to
-
they also talked about console optimization… things get talked about a lot
-
for future reference, try to blur out people's names when posting stuff.
normal? yes, people get missmatched a lot. but not this early I don't think. when people start they have a begginers queue, or at least I heard about it, so you should only match with other new accounts. not sure how long that queue lasts…
-
don't take this the wrong way, it is just you. just gotta get more practice in and you'll be able to do it aswell.
-
just equip them and keep at it. eventually a game will happen where you will be able to do it.
it's one of those you can't really force.

If I went out of my way to get a good Plot Spot®, and they came all the way to heal me up, then I don't think there's much hope for that match. I pretty much Solo'Q, and its just been my experience. And if the killer is on their way, I def wanna be healed up.
I often hold shift when they arrive so they get the idea. It usually works lol.in my experience they just keep running on top of me and refuse to leave…

I think you have a concept of a power instead of an idea for a killer.

they should. really no reason to have this be a thing snymore.
let people on kill your friends pick their map like they already can, but map offerings for regular games should go or become the reverse. instead of "go to X", become "do not go to X".
-
people more involved with the game are more likely to learn about it in the first place.
and people who want results will use them regardless of skill level.
I believe this is all the correlation one can find.

That depends by which definition you go... All of them have in common that they closely ressemble humans, however some say they also need to behave like humans or similar to them others say they just do tasks humans can, to say that aspect would be wrong is questionable in general, debatable when you name a specific one though.
Quickly checked that and apparently the term came up in the 1700s and was first described as: "elaborate mechanical devices resembling humans performing human activities, were displayed in exhibit halls."
But that part of the definition is not relevant anyway to say that the Singularity is not an Android.
the only one. the one in the dictionary.
if people wanna say an android is a robot that looks human and acts human, they can. the first part already makes it correct. every square is a rectangle after all.
limiting it to also include how actions are performed is not important and honestly counter productive. just imagine if we defined vehicles as having 4 wheels, 2 one person seats in the front and 1 big seat in the back for 2 to 3 people? you know, cars. so now bikes, airplanes, wagons… none of those are vehicles anymore and we now need a new name for the entire group. instead of just naming the new 1 thing.
it's unnecessary. androids are just human looking robots, acting like a human is just a subsect of it. like cars is to vehicles.
also, if an android walked into lava or the bottom of the ocean or space, got a sample of something and then walked out. would they stop being an android since a human can't do that task?
that one scene in star trek where data reads microchips(or something…) like we would read a name tag. did he stop being an android?
also, the "Cyclopædia, or an Universal Dictionary of Arts and Sciences" is so annoying to read… old dictionaries are just not well formated. but anyway, this is the earliest recorded use of android.
ANDROIDES*, an automaton, in the figure of a man; which, by virtue of certain fprings, ^c. duly contrived, walks, fpcaks, and peforms other external fun<Sions of a man. See Automaton
and it still says "robot that looks like a man". and just makes a comment about how this makes it perform actions like a man, since it's man shaped. (I choose to not correct fprings and fpcaks and such, because it copied like this and it's honestly funny)
(btw, found this while going to automaton)
ANIME, or Gum Ksivix, in pharmaev, a kind of gum or refin ;
dude totally predicted one piece. XD
AUTOMATON*, or Automatum, a felf-moving engine ; or a machine which has the jlrinciple of motion within It lelf.
the word robot is quite new, so automaton is all there was.
and just because…
ASTRONOMY*, Astronomia, the dodtrine of the heavens, and the phasnomena thereof.
old dictionaries can be quite fun… and I didn't even look for things, was just glancing while moving the pages.
I mean… c'mon
ANIMATION fignifies the informing of an animal body with a soul.
but regardless, we shouldn't focus too much on the first uses of every word, because the meaning of words change. I mean in this book an atheist is defined as someone who doesn't believe in god, except for the ones that do believe in god but the god is different or just rejects providence, or they think a simple prayer can sway any god(s)…
it was a weird definition
but moving on… all this to say… hux is a cyborg. by choice. not sure if the human parts he added to himself actually perform any function, but they do make him a cyborg. in the terminator style, living tissue and all.

Your second point is wrong though ^^ android is per definition a machine that looks like a human (and also acts like one) , based on the ancient Greek words for men/human and for look (as in appearance), so you might be a machine, but you are not an android :)
that is just wrong. an android is simply "a robot with a human appearance". nothing else.
how it acts, is irrelevant.

Yeah, I'm not a Skull Merchant hater myself, but objectively speaking there are still problems with her kit due to the lack of counter play. 1 of the big issues affecting Meg here is there is no way to remove a stack once she has it, so having 2 at the start of this clip kinda meant she was a done deal no matter what happened....
I'd be interested in your thoughts on my proposed rework:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/407609/skull-merchant-a-final-attempt
I doubt it'd make her a popular killer, but the hope is to remove some of the more annoying interactions of her kit and at least give Survivors something they could do.
she can keep track of the lines and crouch for a bit to avoid it. she had the distance for it. she can also stand still while it passes, but it's better to crouch there.
also why try to mindgame this pallet at all here? just a bad idea against a good killer.
the other 2 stacks were maybe avoidable too. maybe even more easily.
the killer is using their power, you gotta give something up, be it distance, resources or the hit. it's normal stuff. if trapper or hag had a trap, she would need to go around it. if there were projectiles, she would need to dodge, etc etc...
you can't always just run forward
-
People are just blindly hating and I stopped even pretending to care about their baby rage.
-
kinda bs... killers should have priority to grab survivors off the ground.
but it rarely matter, so I rather they focus on other stuff

So many people hating on Skull Merchant when the main article is about how much GoJ sucks.
GoJ is almost as bad as the Stranger Things map, it doesn’t account for terrible map interactions and is overly safe to do things on. If they just made the main building better and had more space between long loops it would be fine.
no one can miss a chance on hating SM... they gotta let as all know they hate SM. they can't just move on or engage with the topic...
they REALLY gotta tell us how much they hate SM.

how do you know how much it raised?

still think it's too gimmicky for regular play.

I think I'm also trying to more look at it without all the fancy digging in files since I don't play on pc and I'm not a major tech person so seeing his reload animation I'm thinking he's putting a full bullet in and not just a cartridge with some gun powder. Because if it is a proper bullet it would cause problems as the bullet would hit the harpoon and ricochet off of it since it wouldn't just dead stop.
pretty sure it is a full bullet. that is another issue

no it's a rifle. but does work kinda like a fishing gun.
except of course, comparison wise, fishing guns are extremely light and being underwater helps. also the harpoon and line weight almost nothing.
seriously, people underestimate the amount of force required to launch a harpoon like he uses in the game. the recoil alone is probably separating someone's arm from their shoulder.
-
"without a problem"? no. there are many problems.
including, a metal spear is heavy as ######### and the power to make that fly as fast and far as it does in game would likely be insane.
-
@Vorahk08 said:
I think the power works within the Unknown's theme precisely because it doesn't fit with the mimic theme. The Unknown's theme seems to be a somewhat Lovacraftian 'you can't define this creature's true nature." Lovecraftian horror is notoriously difficult to adapt to any kind of visual medium, because it relies so much on a lack of knowledge. BHVR has gone to great lengths to obfuscate the true nature of the Unknown. The lore and flavor text are purposely vague and contradictory. The parasite venom grenades show that it has weird, unexplained abilities that it uses in its hunt, while also seeming like a vaguely Lovecraftian idea. It also provides nice in-game storytelling about the Unknown, because it shows that what we see is just some kind of skinsuit, and that the real Unknown is the parasite inside, which will probably remain unknown to us, unless more of it is shown in a future cosmetic.
no... the entity is cosmic horror, not the unknown.
it's not about you not being able to define it, it's about you not being able to comprehend or even grasp it. that to understand any it, you NEED to be insane.
the unknown is just a modern cryptid.
