    @Saiph

Before I do, I need to know if you and the poster above you actually read my entire explanation, as this is not a judgement of how hard it is to literally play any of these killers. It is a judgement of how hard it is to master them and bring them into a competitive level of play.

Consider this way of looking at this tier list. This is how hard these killers would be to play, if the person playing each and every one of them, had a minimum of 1000 hours spent playing that particular killer.

Another way to clarify this is to say that if a person played a REALLY GOOD BUBBA or REALLY GOOD TRAPPER, this tier list shows the level of difficulty in "getting to that point of skill with that killer".

I did. a couple times to make sure I wasn't missing something. and now again. still, very few make sense to me

Competitive scene by the self proclaimed professional players.

There's no organisation that funds teams to play dead by daylight. The win money are so little or nothing at all in most tournaments. This is the difference between legit comp and dbd comp.

do you think all the competitive sports just sprouted from the ground?

that they didn't start small with little to no prizes and that it took time and effort for them to grow?

  • do you mind explaining... all of the positioning on the tier list? literally all of them. very few make sense to me

    Disagree.

There are probably millions of DBD games played per month.

    802 games isn't significant.

it's a small number compared to what the total amount of games are. but that doesn't mean no conclusions can be made with it.

from what I understand the website it's mosly used by usa players, so it is significant to show what is potentially going on in the usa games. no definitives, but a suggestion.

ultimately, it can tell what happens in the average nightlight user game.

trying to apply this to all of dbd is the actual issue.

  • I would not use it even if it had no cooldown so... agreed.

there's better perks for all the effects.

Exactly where the killer is at all times, their direction, and current actions - anyone who isn’t a psychic, yes - opaque walls can present an issue in some circumstances. Quite a few were shown in the video you posted despite it being clearly choreographed for demonstration purposes.

you do not need perfect sight to know "where the killer is, their direction, and current actions". and having that is mostly unnecessary.

you literally see the guy in the video showing it's sight based. "he there, that means I can safely do X" rinse and repeat.

nothing is 100% perfect. but does it need to be?

You're missing the forest for the trees. The killer's objective is to prevent the exit gates from being powered. The killer's win condition is simply to Kill all four survivors, by any means.

The survivors objective is to power the exit gates. Their win condition is to Escape.

Progressing a generator is not at all like getting two hits on a survivor. Generators cannot be likened to hook states. I sufficiently explained why. The only commonality they have is that they permanently progress the objective. Survivors can do nothing to avoid being tunneled, short of never being found in the first place.

You're talking about tunneling like the only time it ever happens is when survivors induce it. Survivor-induced tunneling is not tunneling. You can do absolutely nothing wrong, but because you were the first hooked, the killer has to tunnel you out of the game for the sake of efficiency.

All the second chance perks in the game won't save you from a killer who wants you out of the match. They'll throw the match to make it happen, if that's what it takes, and the only thing you did wrong was be the first person hooked.

Being tunneled simply isn't fun, much like being genrushed isn't fun, yet the former is more common than the latter.

so let's assume the killer bodyblocks everyone and they can't progress any gens. therefore the gates are never gonna be powered.

did the killer win? after all, you said his objective is to stop the gates. he did. did that make him win? is that how it works?

if the gates are opened and the killer downs and hooks all 4 survivors, did he lose? since he failed his apparent objective?

and I'm the one missing the forest for the trees?

also. done with this. have fun talking alone.

That's all great and all, but you literally cannot hide traps anymore. There are no maps anymore (as far as I can tell) where the grass is thick enough that a survivor with low settings can't see your traps.

there is like 2 or 3 left

  • @Kaitsja said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3511163#Comment_3511163

No, the killer's objective is not to kill the survivors. That's their win condition. The survivors win condition is to escape. The survivors objective is to repair the generators to power the exit gates. The killer's objective is to prevent the survivors from completing their objective.

You likened hook states to completed generators, and that just doesn't work because the two are not comparable. A generator can be regressed, and progress can be stalled almost indefinitely. A completed generator cannot be undone, but there is nothing a survivor can do to avoid being tunneled, nor can their team prevent the killer from doing so.

Efficiency is boring. If everyone played the game in the most efficient way possible, nobody would want to play anymore, because it's boring. It's why people complain about tunneling, camping, and genrushing. They're all so, so boring.

yes it is. the objective is to kill the survivors. or rather sacrifice them to the entity. in order to do this they gotta chase and down survivors. if they are fast enough at it, they do not need to even care about the gens.

they are comparable. progressing a gen is like getting the 2 hits on the survivor. you finish a gen and permanently progress in your ultimate goal of excaping. same for getting the 2 hit and getting a hook state on the survivor.

you can delay the other side by regressing the gens or saving your teammate before they are hooked. but that is more about getting in the way of the other side over progressing your objective.

there's a lot a survivor can do to avoid being tunneled. from perks to simple actions like not taking a hit for the person who unhooked you.

and you can certainly stop a killer from tunneling another teammate depending on the situation.

Way before the DS rework, before basekit BT, people would say the same things.

This resulted in survivors stacking "second chance" perks. This made killers irrationally angry, because survivors weren't actually supposed to listen.

DS, UB, DH, BT. I've played long enough to remember when that was quite literally every game on every survivor who's been playing the game for longer than 100 hours.

The DS rework needed to happen, but then they nerfed the stun duration so now it's worthless. DH needed a nerf, but then they nerfed it again, and now almost nobody uses it. UB is so situational that you only ever see it complained about in Twins games. BT only extends the duration for which an unhooked survivor has endurance and haste for. OTR is a fantastic anti-tunnel perk, unless the killer decides they're just going to tunnel you anyway.

There's basically nothing survivors can do to outright stop the killer from tunneling them. They can only delay the killer.

delaying the killer has always been what survivors are supposed to do.

also, all of these perks are still good at their job. and dh was the 10th most used perk if I remember correctly.

Of course I do but I also know the shack isn’t a greenhouse with transparent walls. You can’t see the killer wherever they are regardless of their position. There are some small holes, yes, but that’s hardly an unobstructed 360 view of the entire shack perimeter.

do you need it to be transparent to be able to understand where the killer is?

but when i play someone who's a bit lower than that, people almost everytime leave the second they join.

I have 2k hours in this game and last week a have 5 matches in a row as a killer against players who have 70-400 hours. I haven't dodged a single lobby. No, it's not the result of losing, I win 90% of my games. I didn't lose a single one that day.

In july I played with a friend and had two games in a row against killers with 100 hours. The third game was against a killer with 10k hours.

I think it's time to admit that SBMM has failed a little more than completely.

but do you know if you were the first there?

the idea is that the lobby was dodged, therefore it screwed the matchmaking. which is what put you there.

If lobbies are going to be locked, then can we just skip the lobbies instead, just like how other online games work?

In the entire time I've ever played survivor in this game, I have never used the lobby time to coordinate stuff with other survivors in the game, and I've never seen anyone else in my lobbies try to coordinate stuff with other survivors during the lobby time. Currently, the whole lobby system just appears to waste everyone's time, because there's usually at least one survivor that wants to purposely wait out the entire lobby timer, so they can last second switch their items (or last second switch their character).

I have gone to a lobby where every single player switched to bill after me and another player were using him.

    it was fun.

    kinda rare

  • @Mandy said:

I guess the solution would be locking lobbies and not allowing players to dodge them.

I would be perfectly fine with that honestly.

the issue is that sometimes my ping is high and doesn't go down until the 20sec mark. (it's ps4, being on red when I get in the lobby is normal, it also goes down after a few seconds). so I leave to get better ping.

so what would happen then? do I have to stay in the high ping lobby?

  • probably this ""Hit a Survivor(s) within 30 second(s) of them being revealed by your Killer Instinct, do it 4 time(s)."

Survivors don't have another objective. It's either do gens, or do nothing. You can't undo a hook state, but you can undo gen progress. I think it's weird that people are more concerned with winning than they are with actually having a fun, enjoyable experience.

Genrushing is boring, tunneling is boring. Both suck the fun out of the game and ruin the experience for the other party.

neither does the killer? the objective is just to kill the survivors.

you can't undo a hook state, and you can't undo finished gens. that's the correct comparison.

regressing gens is akin to a survivor getting a stun or something like that. reseting the distance between them and the killer. so the "chase progress" is "regressed".

    @Sharby said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3511080#Comment_3511080

    That's exactly why it's fine.

You realize a Gen rushing game is like 2-3 minutes right? It takes longer to do business in a washroom and the killer gets to play the entire match.

Even if it results in a loss, which isn't guaranteed because of EGC plays. That is the lesser evil compared to a survivor having to afk on a hook to not screw their team over because of camping or tunneling.

either they are both fine, or none is.

the killer is one affected, are killers not people too? do they not deserve a fun game where they get to do their thing instead of downing one survivor and the gates opening?

it's silly. the survivor getting tunneled also played the entire match. and according to most people I hear, getting chased is the most fun part of the game.

Which they can do anyway, by 99ing their SB. The pallets don't magically cease to exist when somebody is afflicted with blindness. WoO isn't the autopilot perk people think it is when pallets spawn close enough together that you don't really need to think about where to go next.

The real strength of WoO is knowing which pallets are gone.

  • yeah. the game just has too many pallets in general. you can play great the entire match but if the survivors don't screw up and play safe with the pallets, they'll still have a lot left when the game ends. which to me is insane.

I also play a lot of m1 killers, and it's annoying that sometimes I can't do anything besides looping until I force a pallet.

too many safe pallets. I rather them all be mindgameable.

    @WilliamSN said:

Personally I believe BHVR should take the dead dawg saloon's shack way of tile balance into the other tiles.

DDS's shack has a breakable wall that turns shack from well... shack... into a fair longwall for the rest of the game,at the expense of conceding distance and wasting time once, it allows for a pseudo fix to Tile unbalance.

Or alternatively, reduce the amount of possible check spots on tiles , survivors being able to see 3+ possible routes in a tile because of 3rd person camera is ridiculous, it just makes mind games impossible aswell as neutering skill expression from both sides.

    yes. I fully agree.

regular shack is too safe. dead dawg shack is harder to play with as a survivor but still perfectly fine to use. it's great.

    @Xernoton said:

You forgot the Myers House, Pog Logs and that one tile in the corner of Garden of Misery (with the car, pallet and vault).

Even some killers with good chasing powers can't do anything against most of these tiles. It really is that ridiculous. The worst part is, that these are all pretty easy to loop when you play survivor. Because what is the killer going to do? Turn into Nurse halfway into the match and blink right through? Well, sorry. I haven't mastered that tech yet.

My main issue with many of these tiles is that Nurse and Blight don't really care. Nurse doesn't care if there is 1 pallet, 10 pallets, 100 pallets or no pallets at all. She will play the exact same. And Blight can play around these things no matter if there is a pallet or not. Meanwhile you have Trapper, Clown, Pig, Doctor, Freddy, Wraith, Myers, Legion, Bubba, Ghostface, Demogorgon, Twins, Dredge, Sadako, Billy and even Nemesis to degree, who have no chance to do anything better than just following the survivor step by step until they bloodlust and the survivor drops the pallet or the entity blocks the vault. Such engaging gameplay, when it doesn't matter if you have a lot of experience and play pretty well or if you just installed the game 5 minutes ago and have no idea what to do.

And we haven't even talked about RNG yet. Because there are set ups that leave even killers with stronger chase powers in awe at how horrible it can get. I have experienced first hand what happens when a somewhat good survivor (neither extremely good nor bad) has the double window in Father Campbell's Chapel and a interconnecting TL wall. 4 windows connecting into each other. Sounds fine? No it doesn't. Because it isn't. On the new Cowshed map you can get 2 long tiles right next to each other. On Toba Landing you can get 2 vaults right next to each other plus a few filler pallets around. Great. The average killer can definitely outplay a survivor that has 2+ seconds to react to everything they do.

Most pallets are so safe that even if you could manage to get a hit because the survivor made a huge mistake it's not really worth it to leave the pallet still intact. Because the next survivor will be smarter. And then you have to break it anyway. Something else I find funny is the amount of pallets we have on some maps. If a survivor doesn't even try to loop but just drops pallets left and right, that should leave them with huge dead zones and no more ressources left, right? Well, it doesn't. Because the game is over before they run out of pallets to pre drop. The Game is the worst offender but the Borgo, Eyrie of Crows, Red Forest maps and Garden of Misery follow suit.

Turn into Nurse halfway into the match and blink right through? Well, sorry. I haven't mastered that tech yet.

skill issue. just gotta do the triple backflip into a double jump over the cowshed to unlock the ability. EZ

And we haven't even talked about RNG yet.

the annoying part about rng is that I have also been at the other side of this when just nothing spawns... wish it was more consistent.

it's not really worth it to leave the pallet still intact

    yeah... sucks.

Survivors don’t like Skull Merchants or to a lesser degree Knights because their powers are frequently used to create boring battles of attrition. Before the regression nerfs, they could literally guarantee no generator could be completed in a 3 gen setup unless they went AFK or something. It has nothing to do with whether they might as well be bots.

That some chases, when run optimally and with lucky map configurations can take a while is by design. This game is designed such that a killer will always catch up to and down a survivor provided they’re both looping to the same level of skill. The only question is how long it will take. A killer is meant to make a choice in those situations - continue the chase and get a down or break chase to play for more downs by slowing gen progress, going after survivors in less favorable areas, etc. If a killer can catch up to a survivor consistently and quickly, what do you think a survivor can do to win? How do you feel that would be fair gameplay?

I like battles of attrition. from both sides.

    also, don't get you point.

the game is designed so that the killer will catch the survivor. but sometimes the tile spawns just say, "no you won't". or the map will look at your power and say "you bettter be a god with that".

the survivors aren't meant to win chases, they are meant to delay the killer. yes, the killer should very much consistently and quickly be able to catch the survivor, it's exactly what makes the game fair. it's why it's a 4v1, you have a team.

I play on PS4 because, and I can't believe I'm saying this, the game runs smoother on it than it does on my PS5. Every time I run it on the 5 it's insanely laggy, to the point that I can't even hit skill checks; meanwhile, on the PS4, I can hit greats consistently. I know hitting greats isn't all that difficult, but I'm using it as an example of the lag.

you know the share button? if you tap it you get a screenshot. if you hold it, you can save a video of up to 1 hour of whatever happened in this last hour. there is a configurations options there, just set the correct time and play normally. if you want the last whatever minutes saved, you just do it.

when I used to record my games I had it set to 20 minutes.

granted, idk if you need to have it set beforehand or if it works if you change the time and save the video. I just always had it at 20 minutes

  • @Sharby said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3510650#Comment_3510650

And if it wasn't or I never got caught, then what?

See the problem with these types of arguments that remove human-empathy from the equation to be purely objective is that it can never actually be applied in a practical sense to the real world because in the real world societal-feelings and community consensus absolutely do affect personal freedoms.

You don't exist in a vacuum, like it or not your actions have consequences on those around you. Video games are no exception.

Can you tunnel, camp, slug, t-bag, click, etc etc etc? Yes you can and the game allows it. But should people encourage this behavior? I don't think so. And as a community we should continue to discourage unsportsmanlike behavior because it only serves to make the game worse for everyone except for the few people who pride themselves on being annoying.

The devs allow tunneling and camping to exist because they are valid ways to win a game, but its very clear that they actively want to discourage both playstyles with things such as anticamp and basekit BT.

They are actively discouraging them because they recognize that they are unfun strategies most players dislike experiencing, and this is coming from someone who likes the challenge of being tunneled.

Its annoying that these topics devolve into people actively defending unhealthy playstyles with bad comparisons when the focus should be on how to reward killers better and give killers more agency in having a myriad of good strategies to use against good teams instead like survivors do.

It is. So the hypothetical don't matter.

Hackers are banned all the time.

You wanna defend that we should encourage more fun playstyles, go for it.

But this argument in particular is bad for it.

I agree that tunneling isn't unfair. It's a perfectly valid strategy, and yeah it sucks to be on the receiving end but it is what it is. That said...

Generators are not sentient, and don't have feelings. In no way is tunneling comparable to survivors doing a generator at 90% instead of starting a fresh one. Tunneling someone off hook ruins their experience, and sucks the fun out of the game for that player.

Finishing all gens too fast ruins the experience for the killer and sucks the fun out of the game.

    But I guess it's fine cause a gen isn't a person?

Yes, you can use comms to communicate when shack gets thrown and some of the god pallets but it's nowhere near as beneficial as seeing every vault and pallet. I'm also not an outlier, many players with way more hours than me run windows. In fact, so much so I would argue the opposite. I would say most new players should run windows but they don't.

experienced players take note by themselves about where they can run to if the killer comes.

at this point I wish most of them they were replaced with a deadpan "ouch". The extended screams are so much worse.

only if in a 1/10000 chance they give a Tom scream

  • these are always nice.

shame I have way too many characters to use bp on currently... taking a year break kinda ######### up that part.

    Probably went like:

    Trade Offer:

    I receive, Survivors on hooks.

    You do not receive, fire.

and then the xeno got fire regardless. XD

  • seems doable... just bring autodidact in a 4 player swf and don't forget the friendly killer with an hour to waste. EZ!!!

it must be supposed to be 1 right?

Can you complete this challange right now or it's bugged?

I have to play as Haddie now... Great! I hate challanges like that which forces you to play meh level characters

    what's wrong with haddie?

This would be visually neat, but could be problematic for killers that need an element of surprise to get that first hit/down.

Besides, can you imagine if Nurse had her own hooks? Survivors wouldn't need to wait to hear the first blink sound effect, they could just DC on seeing her hook.

the survivors still won't know who you are going for. and currently you can still stealth to them after they know it's you. so I really don't see that point.

so they quit 10 seconds before the usual? damn...

It's only fair that the most efficient strategy for the killer is also the most ????

    most what?

Players make mistake losing the game, not survivors take time to reset or killer making a mistake.

Killer gets advantage on a short game if survivors make multiple mistake early game and ends up get half the hook count in 5min. I dont see how killer actually get advantage in a short game case beside that.

The same to survivors, I dont see how 4 survivors with 6-7 hooks count already, items depleted, most pallets are gone, grouped together to heal each other while Gens get regressed to 0 because no one are doing it, actual get advantage when the match is already reach to 15min.

Myers is the only one, I dont see how Nemesis getting weaker in end game? Nemesis's power is designed to "feel" hes getting stronger in late game for how his M2 work: short range, takes 3 hits to down -> to longer range, break pallet, takes 2 hits to down (when there is no vaccin left). Zombies are also patrol between Gens, the less Gens, the shorter path they patrol, the shorter time for them to complete a lap between Gens.

yeah. it's by mistakes being made.

like a bubba catching 3 survivors out of position in the first 2 minutes of the game.

or the killer losing a survivor in chase, allowing them all to reset

I didn't say they get weaker, I said their power level changes.

trapper and hag also have a varied power level depending on if things are set up or not.

  • my real answer is none. every killer is someone's favorite and should not be removed ever.

it already happened with old freddy, and it sucks.

but, to actually participate, I would remove nurse.

reason, without nurse in the game, the game can be properly balanced easier since she is a massive outlier. if you nerf survivors or buff killers it's always a gamble if nurse will just become a nuke.

the closer all killers are to the same power level, the better
