Do you have it from your Steam Family or something? You don't count as owning the game if its from someone elses library that's in your Steam Family. This isn't an issue with the game, its an issue with Steam itself. More so since you're having other issues.

That's a good idea but no I don't use any of that to share games. I bought it straight from the steam store.

  • This happened to me as well in chaos shuffle today

  • This is quite concerning, it's been around since Jan. and no fix? Is it only affecting a small amount of players? Has anyone from BHVR commented on this?

I was going to post my own ticket with video proof but I was warned to check and make sure my bug hasn't been reported already, so I'm not sure what to do.

I've been searching and haven't found a fix yet.

  • This also happens when players use their chain. I'm not sure what the fix is but it happens to me 5-6 times a match. Pressing Esc can reset it.

  • I had this exact same issue, happened 5-6 times in one game. I'm seeing many posts about this, as far back as January. Seems related to the release of the custom game with bots. Hope we get a response from the devs soon.

  • Just had the same thing happen, recorded multiple examples. Pressing Esc will reset the camera, not a good fix but it helps.

So I used winmtr and it didn't say I had any lost packets but when I entered dbds IP it was also spammed with no response from host things

Sorry I had to take my Final exams and quit gaming for a few weeks.

No response from host is pretty typical for some servers. Thats just a defense mechanism to avoid people pinging intentionally to cause harm to the network.

Did your ISP come out to your house and hook up to your line and run the tests? If not then they might be BS'ing you over the phone. They have a device thats basically a mini computer they bring out with them and hook up to run traceroutes to diff nodes to test the hops.

Did you test winmtr with a stable connection like google.com ? And you said your first few hops were 0% packet loss? If so then yes your internet is good, it's on DbD. The problem is unless more people have the problem, it won't be fixed and even if so, it might not be in their control.

Since nodes can be owned by tons of different companies, for instance when I was constantly getting lag spikes in a game I'd played for years. I looked up the IP and they were owned by a random company in India. I can't call the game company and say hey, fix this. Because they have no control over the internet. No one does really, it's a crazy wild west sort of thing. The best they can do is (maybe?) and I'm reaching out of my ass here. They could blacklist that node from connecting to their network and force a reroute. I don't think this is possible though, since they likely don't direct connect to that node anyways, its a daisy chain of node a,b,c,d,e and then f is DbD servers. Then you have to consider they are renting servers from Company X and have no control over how the network is managed.

I'm not trying to go into detail to show off but just to emphasize how wide the gap is in terms of solutions. It sounded like you got the VPN to work, albeit it was slow. I think this is your easiest solution. Shop around and use those free trials, until you find one with the fastest connection to DbD and just keep hounding your ISP. Ask DbD customer service if there is an IP you can run a traceroute to that won't be kicked back.

This last part is tricky, because (no offense) you sound new to some of this. But you can open ports on your router, FIRST google how to do it safely. This is dangerous because it bypasses the importance of why we use routers, which is to deny external devices to connect to our network. It's literally like forcing open a little gap in your defenses, to allow anyone with an ID of X to enter. This is rarely a solution either, I'm just throwing this out as a hail mary option.

Step 1: Google how to open ports

Step 2: Ask DbD or find a reputable source for which ports DbD uses.

Step 3: Log in to your router via whatever address it comes with. Most are usually a standard IP issued with the router, or a name (ex. "www.asusrouterlogin.com"). That's a made up address but you get the point.

Step 4: Find the settings for Port Forwarding.

Step 5: Make a new rule for the TCP/UDP specific settings for the ports given for DbD.

Step 6: Enter the number given: Such as ports: ~12366 - 12399. Save and your good.

This will rule out DbD getting kicked off your network because your router is (for some reason) blocking DbD. The reason I say this is a hail mary play, is because most modern routers have plug n play ways of managing ports easily for whatever game. It's not common for this to be an issue but if you have old hardware, it might work.

I've been through this a lot and I feel your pain, so I'm trying to help but please do your own research. I'm not a professional.

And fact is I don't DC from any other game so definitely not that

I see what you're saying but every game has a different tolerance for a bad connection. The purpose of going hard wired is to rule out any possibility, in order to properly troubleshoot. Even if it's just temporary, if you get some 25-50ft cables and just jerry rig it for testing, you can at least rule it out.

Also make sure to run a winmtr/pathping/traceroute to the DbD servers. If there's no IP for the DbD servers available, use another game you play to test it and see where you are dropping packets. If it's on the first couple hops, it's your local network. Since VPN worked for you, it's unlikely to be you, but still good data. Hoping devs will prioritize 20 people DC'ing is not going to work, you need to do as much troubleshooting yourself as you can, and then raise this problem to your ISP so they can fix the nodes if that is the issue.

  • Try running a wired connection. It's pretty common for wireless connections to be unreliable for gaming. Since the game relies on constant updates between you and the other players, if your wireless router loses connection or drops packets. That might be why you're getting dc'd.

Unless these disconnects affect thousands of players, it's unlikely anything will be done for this small amount of users. The internet is known to be unreliable and the problem will likely be blamed on your ISP anyways. Your ISP will blame the game but it doesn't hurt to try and get them to run a test on your line.

First though, for anyone having DC issues, run a wired connection first.

  • @RatMilkOwO I don't have a good one to recommend sorry. Real quick though, are you on wired or wireless connection? Also what is your internet speed? When you run a pathping or traceroute, what is your packet loss?

  • I can confirm this has been fixed, at least in a custom lobby.

  • @RatMilkOwO That's good news! It sounds like your home network and area is fine, the problem is somewhere between your area and the dbd servers.

As far as lowering your ping with a VPN, there are a few options. You could find a better route with the VPN client. It depends on the VPN company but they sometimes offer custom routes to different nodes. The higher ping is a result of the custom node route from the VPN, but this is also what is allowing you to play. In other words the direct/simple route you would normally take has a faulty node, which DC's you. The VPN avoids this by micro managing which nodes you use, but this increases the travel time from you to the dbd servers which increases your ping.

I would find a VPN that explicitly states they support DbD. This means they have a more efficient route to the servers.

  • @Grigerbest damn that sucks. Not being able to place traps after teleport really wrecks defensive setups. Hope this gets some attention.

  • I've noticed these remnants for me on Steam. I also see them on livestreams. I hope this is not intended.

  • I noticed a difference in the wiggle bar too, felt easier to hit the skill checks but also seemed like I was getting less progress? Very odd

  • Could it be an internal CD since you just placed a trap and insta teleported? I don't play hag, just trying to help

  • Has this been fixed? I want to use my titan skin T_T

  • Looks like this was fixed in the last patch. At least for me

  • My recommendation would be to run winmtr to see where your connection is having trouble. I'm not sure of an IP for dbd servers that we can test but you can always use google or another game. If you're unsure how to do this Blizzard has one on their site you can use. If you have packet loss on the first few hops then you'll know it's on your side. Basically the internet is a highway, your ISP guarantees access to the highway but since different companies own different nodes, there's no guarantee beyond getting you on the highway. There could be a bad node somewhere between you and the dbd servers. If you don't want to go through all the troubleshooting, you could try a gaming VPN, some of them have free trials. I don't use them since it slows your speed overall but the benefit is that the VPN directs the connection between you and the game, so it ignores bad nodes. If a VPN works, then you can likely rule out a problem on your end.

  • I'll give my 2 cents on this. When does the disconnect from host happen? Today I've been getting the disconnect from host as killer, but it only happens in the lobby. I'm not sure if it's survivors all leaving? I've rarely had this happen.

  • clip from OhTofu's stream showing both bugs.

    https://clips.twitch.tv/WanderingImpartialDoveDoubleRainbow-255-jBsaz3_bWmHA

#1 The bug where while setting patrol, they will break a wall without being told

#2 He started his power near a breakable wall and the guard tried to break the wall without pressing M1, then bugged out and lost his power the rest of the game.

He said he's been playing all day and it only happened once. It's only happened once for me as well.

  • I just saw a perfect example from OhTofu's stream. He had both bugs back to back.

  • I agree there is a bug that causes guards to break things without being told. However I'm not understanding what you mean by

"As you reach the object, spam the button multiple times both before you reach the object, and spam the button after you've pressed the command."

Is this as the killer or in the "patrol route mode" that you should be spamming the guard break.

Also in your case, is it required that you first break something with guards "normally" to get the bug to work? Does it only happen if you spam? Or is it just that there's a bug which causes guards to break things randomly.

I ask because if you've found a way to recreate the conditions that make the guards break something without being told that would be awesome.

edit: I reread your title, so what you're saying is if you press the attack button at all while in "set patrol mode" it will carry over and kick the next gen its in range of? Regardless of whether you pressed the button during the last "set patrol mode" ?

  • @StrawberryShake you might have had another bug as well. The one that has your guards kick gens without being told.

  • I concur, it seems like quite a few people have this problem. It always involves pallets too. It seems like if it's done too fast or done on an object that is no longer interactable, the guards just go full Mr. Meeseeks and don't know what to do so it loops.

  • I concur this happened to me as well. Although I'm not sure I gave the order to break the pallet. The survivor dropped the pallet while I was setting a patrol route. However since there is a bug that causes guards to break things without being ordered, this could be why it happened to me.

The main difference for me is I did not tell it to do anything fast (at least not manually). I summoned the guard around a pallet in a chase, and the survivor dropped it. So maybe the other bug that causes them to kick things without being told, made this all happen as you put it "too fast".

  • I concur this happens to me as well. For me it's usually when I let the power gauge run out but it could be for manual too.

    Example

    Step 1 : Use Power

    Step 2 : Go near a gen

Step 3 : Let the power end naturally (maybe with manual end as well)

Step 4 : Guard kicks the gen

  • Same thing just happened to me. I was on the new map, I summoned the guard around a pallet, I was setting the path of the patrol and it just suddenly snapped me back to my body. I couldn't summon guards for the rest of the game and the noise that happens when you are setting a patrol just kept looping. I recorded the events after the bug occurred, similar to what you've shown here.

    Some key things to note:

    The green icon stays

The sound keeps playing as if you are setting a patrol

The guard never spawns as far as I recall

Things that do not reset the bug:

    Breaking the pallet

    Breaking gens

    Hitting survivors

    Exit Gates Opening

Leaving the area, none of these work to get your power back or end the loop.

    Example

    Step 1 : Chase a survivor

Step 2 : Use power to summon carnifex

Step 3 : Go near pallet

Step 4 : (I think) The survivor drops the pallet

Step 5: Get canceled out of your power but does not summon guard

Step 6: Game attempts to summon guard on a loop, power is not available to use

Step 7: Above I listed all the things that do not work to reset this issue

  • Tunneling and camping is not fun for killer either. Unfortunately thats how the meta is now because the game is quite difficult for killers imo. The speed of gens being done and the amount of healing perks is wild. I'm sorry its made the game unfun for you but its not daisies for killer either.

You can, it'll just take a bit before your MMR rating lowers to an acceptable level

Not a bad idea, the new killers are way more fun anyways.

  • I haven't seen a Cheetoh in a long time.

  • @ThatOneDemoPlayer said:

There is barely any difference between your Killer MMR and your average Killer MMR, which is why you are getting these kind of games as a Killer you barely play. Happened to me aswell when I tried to play Deathslinger

Ah! That's dissapointing. I was hoping to level up my new killers by playing them instead of farming with my old ones.

  • @dugman said:

You’re playing Huntress using Huntress’ Lullaby and Deerstalker and Franklins and Bitter Murmur as your loadout and you’re complaining that you only got one kill against survivors who played well and did gens?

I think you're missing the point. He's ranked gold and has low tier perks. This is exactly why he shouldn't be matched against Rank 1's. People should be able to level up and attain top tier perks without being steamrolled non stop.

I'm just coming back from a 2 yr break but I don't remember facing rank 1's until green or purple ranks. Also, the fact that we can't even depip now makes it inevitable that we will leave the Ash ranks and be unable to test builds, try new killers or do anything fun.

Just to try and enjoy the stomp, I popped a party streamers before trying to play Nurse for the first time in years. I played relatively fair and got nothing but salt and BM in return. Why is my mmr putting me vs rank 1's after 2 yrs of inactivity? Why can't I have some games against players of similiar skill so I can enjoy getting back into DbD? Rather than having to immediately go full try hard to even have a match go past 5mins. I ######### chase and 3-4 gens are done. It doesn't even feel like its worth the wait for survivors. The game feels twice as fast as it used to be, at least.

  • Thank you for the quick response!

  • OP I feel you. I haven't played in years and after one day I'm getting matched against rank 1's. I'm trying new killers with random yellow and green perks too. It's impossible to learn the game again without any way to even go into a practice mode with the killer I want to learn. It's just an overall bad experience coming back when you have to immediately go against the highest rank players. I was honestly falling in love with dbd again the first 5-10 games or so before matchmaking decided to make the game unplayable. I wouldn't mind so much if I didn't want to play all the new killers. I've got 10 new killers to play around with and it's just not possible if I have to play against people with 1000+ hrs and full perks.

  • I just came back after a few years off the game. One day of playing and I'm already vs rank one survivors. I'm rusty as hell and I'm trying to play the new killers so I have trash perks. I would hope after getting slaughtered eventually this will cease to happen

this is my connection speed , and its been 3 days of teleporting in the map and getting kicked out of the game and i cant play at all , and its such a shame that no one cares.

    Please fix my game!!

It's not just you! It's everyone mate

I have to say this is not the case with every SWF, nor my SWF group- not only do they bring along dead weight (me), we've had dance offs, accidentally sandbagged one another, tried to meme with favorite Killers, etc. It's incredibly fun, but not a sweat SWF by any means. Sometimes SWF groups just want to enjoy hanging out 🤷‍♀️

Maybe in some mid tier lobbies it can be fun, but once you hit red ranks...my as well just bend over for the pain train

yea i know but that is unfortunate for them. is it worth to ruin a game for 4 players just giving them no chance for you to have fun?

sometimes kilelrs run thourgh pallets and hit u through them then teleport to the other side sometimes huntress axes hit the ground and you still lose an injured state the problem is that they dont haev enough regions i know but just dont play killer then.

I could barely read your post sorry no offense, maybe English is your second language? I don't know why you are arguing as if I'm defending letting anyone have bad ping. I was explicitly saying that you shouldn't let people play who are far away from the server and have a bad ping.

  • @blue4zion said:

Sorry Mr good connection, coulda send over some money to improve that? No? Then pass, deal with it. Not everyone can have the highspeed connection you do.

It's not always about how much you spend $$$ sometimes its based on your distance to the servers. If DBD region locked the game so these people from the middle of nowhere couldn't play it would make the game better. It's unfortunate for those people but playing a game with 200ms should be illegal.

  • @FlameGNG said:

well pretty self explanatory the only thing making this game boring and not fun to play anymore is the fact that killers hit you when you are behind them, to far away, through stuff and sometimes through other players

the fact that this happens almost every game is a joke... its not fun to buy a expensive *** internet cable to get the fastest speed when killer run around with 100ms and you cant even see their ms so if it says 43ms they cna still run around with 200ms just ruining the game for everyone because you cant pallet sutun them, flashlight save someone, loop something because you just dont know where you are for them. I think they should spend some time in fixing this problem once and for all.

BTW anyone else experiencing high ping killers very very often just hitting you on absurd ranges or through whole pallets?

    Watch this please

  • I'm not sure why editing my post removed it and required it be approved by a mod? Anyways, I think this would revolutionize DBD and be so incredibly good. Everything he said just resonates so hard and leveling the playing field with SWF would fix so many things. It's just impossible to balance this game around third party voice comms without adding some kind of communication for solo play.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I am unsure of the second one for multiple reasons, and even if it was considered there is a lot to it to unpack.

However, the first idea would help solo queue SO MUCH. It would make it bearable.

I don't play solo queue at all right now, It feels literally impossible- however this would change that entirely.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPukUi7Oz3g

    Thanks.

This is a great example of addressing the elephant in the room. DBD is balanced or at least designed around solo survivor. The perks which share information prove that, such as showing survivor auras and killers within 15ft when you're on the hook, perks like this would probably need a rework. The killer would need buffs to compensate, like Scott said. Overall this would be a great change for the game.

BHVR needs to address that survivors have comms in SWF and that this makes the game incredibly different. Buffing solo survivors with some form of communication and then buffing killers would even out the SWF domination and make solo survivor more enjoyable.

As someone who has never done SWF because I'm lonely, I imagine every SWF will see this as a nerf, but I just hope they can take into consideration how game breaking using comms is in this game, with the way it is designed. Meanwhile I hope killers can come to an agreement as well, that killers run over solo survivors.

  • First off, people laughing at you and saying :

    @TheresAGameInYourBug said:

Yes absolutely, kick everyone from the game because BHVR's servers are messed up 🤣

don't understand common networking or how online games handle input, buffering and display. The DBD servers matter of course but that doesn't mean suddenly the player connection means nothing. Before you write a half baked comment consider in your mind what a server connection is. Do you just connect to a game via magic and have it sent to you all on DBD's end? No. You connect via the internet highway via nodes, to a remote server hosted by DBD. The connection requires the nodes between you and the server are operational and not dropping packets. The speed of the connection can be changed based on physical location and quality of the lines. The server ran by DBD handles as the relay between all the other PCs connected and does require more effort but if you as a player have a bad connection to the server, this could be anywhere in the path between you and the central server, if there's an issue, you will lag. If you are running wifi, you will have consistency issues and likely be overall slower. The packets with info on what the game state is will cause rubber banding for you, and for everyone else you might run in place or be in a position not indicated by the visual representation of your character. Now for those who play from far away, the distance creates a higher ms response time to the server and slows down the time you update to the DBD servers which redistribute your info to everyone else. In both of these instances it is not "DBDs fault LUL".

I 100% agree, dodge lobbies if you check their steam profile and it says the wrong continent. It's insane to punish a playerbase because a few people far away from the servers want to play. It's not fair for the people in random countries either btw but you're impacting fewer people this way. This is why Blizz region locked OverWatch on release, it hurts the game.

Unfortunately wifi isn't going to be caught by a ping system. Normally the problem with wifi is not ping, it is consistency. You will see a wifi/console user with decent ping, suddenly spike to 100+ randomly.

This is not an easy fix, most games face these problems, especially fighting games. I'm not sure if the game looks for people in your region first, that would be a first step. Once the game starts there's not much you can do. I remember blocking a lot of people back in the day to avoid these situations.
