I'm not surprised the tunneling got worse since boons came into the game. I'm now quilty of tunneling too. I dont hard tunnel but i dont care if you just got off the hook if i see you again you are going straight back :)
The more pressured a Killer feels, the more likely they will start to tunnel, or/and also camp.
There are some that immediately start with tunnelling to try and knock out 1/4 asap but it stems from the same sense of pressure, if they feel they otherwise cant pressure atlest one Survivor off gens.

It's a tough one. Much like the whole 'DRM kills SSDs' hoax, this is the internet and a story can be spread at light speed.
That said, there is a lot of hacking in this game, and this sort of story lies just within the realms of believability that it's easy to get taken in.
That's why fake news and gossip are so powerful online. It turns into 'well, you can't prove that it didn't happen' extremely quickly.
Excellent post.
This is the kind of objective standard that is conducive to evaluating a situation.
-
There are several Mikaelas in most matches now, so its not you using Mikaela that gets you tunneled.
Some people forget they can grind BPs to bloodweb perks on other characters, doesnt have to be that specific one they use.
All the Survivors characters are the same and interchangeble, and makes no difference to the Killer :)
-
"SWF is still alive and well. So I ran with friends, and instead of doing objectives, we now just torment the killer."
This doesnt make sense to your OP.
The Hatch doesnt in any way give your abusive SWF on voice any incentive related to it, because its unusable for you.
The Hatch literally does not affect you in the least bit. It only affects the last Survivor standing in the match.
-
As Killer Im a lot more relaxed when a Survivor DCs, so I dont push the remainder near as hard and might do more goofy things myself as well.
No point in going all out on a 3team, as if it was a 4man threat.
Had a bizzarre game today as Survivor, where whilst I was doing gens and wondering ######### is going on with the constant hooking I could see with Kindred, I ran over and found the Killer and Survivors taking turns getting BPs :O
So I got inline, and took my Hooks too :D At the end Killer let us all out and we waved goodbye.
PS: Exception: If I have a challenge slotted that I can capitalize on by having only 3team, I will, despite their handicap.

"if the device is unplugged during a crash/freeze caused by a hacker."
Then its not caused by the hacker. Its caused by the user disconnecting power from the device whilst its performing critical writing tasks. And the device should not be performing critical writing tasks in the middle of a DBD match.
As to a "hacker" causing such a freeze/crash in the first place, anti-cheat and other restrictions "should" prevent any 3rd party program sending multiple stacked commands via game server to another client, so as to cause an overuse of system resources on that end. The client on the end also should not agree to run those stacked commands (for example, trying to compute/display 10million firecrackers) and simply ignore them as irrational and exceeding parameters, or, thats when a "crash" should occur to decouple from that setting in which its receiving them as a sure solution. As to other hardware such as GFXcard and fans, those should shut down themselves when set too high a task, and especially when/if they exceed heat parameters.
However, again, we do not have even one proven instance of this having happened.
Would you like me to get more technical with the explanation than that, or are you keeping up so far?

I wasn't trying to add fuel to the flames. Just tried to get some information about how severe the ALLEGED problem was. And it seems to be just that; alleged. No evidence what so ever.

Well nerfing, by definition, would lower the value of the perk. So from 'useful' would go to 'unplayable'... yeah, sure I wouldn't mind that.
But in all seriousness - if it was nerfed, I wouldn't cry, I mostly don't care when something is changed, I'm as far from sweaty tryhard as possible, but still - I don't see a reason why it should be nerfed. Sure, it helps, but it helps once and it's just that - help, why shouldn't survivor have that? Killer is already faster, have bloodlust... it feels rather fair to have a chance to manage to get to another loop.
"it feels rather fair to have a chance to manage to get to another loop."
There are other exhaustion perks for that.
-
Do you have any evidence to support your direct accusation that Devs or Mods are deliberately trying to hide from the community other instances of this, of which there has been this ONE that they have not "hidden" in your apparent view and thinking?
The original (and only) poster's thread that started all this, and is the ONLY one that has made the claim his PS4 was bricked by "hackers" via DBD is still up and has not been "hidden" of anything.
The second thread started by another poster telling people to "stop playing DBD if you dont disable Crosswire, or your console will get bricked" is also still up, under that other authors name.
Both of those threads, and this one, have certain posters of note that seem to be very interested in fanning the flames that this is a "real and dangerous possibility" based on ONE poster's unsubstantiated claim, and there being no other mention of bricking via that means either here or on the tech support board.

Im not experiencing any consistency in MM, as Killer or Survivor, which I play 50/50.
Im mediocre at best, at either (in my own assesment).
I only play one Survivor character, always, but several Killers, and there too is no seeming causality to MM.
Im perplexed by people reporting that they are consistently up against noobs or pros, whereas my matches on both sides seem to have no matchmaking whatsoever, just whatever was available thrown into it (including me).
In the same hours of play Ill go up against bully SFW on voice that know every dirty trick in the book and network them, then gaggles of solo-qers that have barely 100hrs between them listed on Steam (and it shows ingame). Also Killers that know my every move, and those that clearly are nowhere near knowing what they are doing yet.
But its the lack of any middle ground there that is most apparent. Those above happen far more frequently than what "feels" like a well-matched, match.
-
1) "Do I know anything about it? NO. But does that sound IMPOSSIBLE? Also no."
As you know nothing about it, you are not capable of assessing whether it is possible or not.
2) "The majority of Xbox, PSN, Switch would all opt not to play with PC and it would be fine."
It would be nowhere near the majority of those consoles, and the majority of this game, afaik, is PC players.
My estimation is you would be left with perhaps 10% of the player pool at any given time, and that would soon diminish further as players realize they cant get match, and MMR would run absolute havoc as it would not be able to match you with players of similar "skill" from that small pool.
3) "No more hackers in-game which is already like a RAMPANT insane fest going on right now. All of a sudden they're 10x more common to see."
Hyperbole does not help. There is no "RAMPANT insane fest". Even in games that have the worst cheating by hacking imaginable, they are less than 1% of the total player pool.
4) "But for bricking hardware to even enter the question? nah, eff that."
It hasnt entered the question at all. And if you read 1) again, you will recognize that you have no cause or proof to even consider that.
-
"CONSOLE ONLY CROSSPLAY BHVR. been saying it forever!!!"
I dont think you realize how that will enormously diminish your potential pool of matches.

I pray to god nobody takes this thread seriously anyone with a decent understanding of computers and coding knows that yes you can overload a server or a network with sending to many packets or too little packets that's how people ddos you but as soon as you turn the console or system off it stops receiving information it is impossible to brick a pc or a console cause as soon as you unplug it it is no longer receiving or writing data so there is no way you could ever stop something from turning on
please read and research ddos and denial of service attacks and you will understand why it's impossible
It seems they dont have any idea, and no interesting in learning either. Instead they are feeding each other disinformation, and generating hysteria.
-
"And on average, it doesn't do much."
Then you would have no problem with removing DH or nerfing it, as the change would not do much, on average.
-
"5 games in a row I was tunneled"
Little Tip: If you are solo-Q and getting tunneled a lot, take precautions that you are not the first the Killer takes interest in, and whom is often the one they tunnel hardest. It can be better to play more cautiously and surrepeticiously to specifically avoid Killers attention. You may also not realize it, but especially as solo-Q, you may be putting yourself more "out there" than you think.
-
"Maybe I just need to take a break for a while, maybe that's it."
Advisable, given the above.
The game wont go anywhere, and some time away will drop your MMR a bit too in proportion :D
Seriously though, there seems very little consistency in it, in most brackets. SWF also make a mess of the system.
Upon your return, try to not care about winning/losing too much, or what the toxic SWF do.
Instead set yourself some own goals and achieve those.
Like focus on getting all the T3 items from the Tomes, and focus on those challenges in them. Or getting a character prestige 3 bloody skins.
Also swap from Killer to Survivor everyso often for a breather. Killer is much more stressful than Survivor.
-
"What about NOED? Gives even more chances after someone messed up."
DH gives as many chances as you can get off exhaustion cooldown, whether you OR killer messed up. NOED however only pops for the last minute or so of game, and when exists are already open. The 4% speed boost is minimal, and wont change a whole game of not being able to catch someone, except perhaps for one down.
-
Expecting an answer to a question on what is said is not "being aggressive".
Its common courtesy to respond to queries on what one has said. Its considered very discourteous to instead answer some imaginary question by moving the goal posts and trying to reformulate what was asked, into something else.
And I dont appreciate at all you there insinuating Im being somehow "aggressive", which is EXTREMELY discourteous, when its you that is being deliberately evasive and causing me to have to repeatedly ask the same question, in a waste of my, readers and ultimately your time as well, "bro".
"Alright, fine. No, I am not of the opinion that the length of chases would be mostly unchanged if Dead Hard weren't in the game. I've not said anything to indicate that I would be of that opinion."
Then it can be removed, as its removal will not have much effect at all. Thanks for your answer.
-
"A quick Google search would let you see the last part is correct. You can fry a router or send a zip bomb to it."
And this is relevant to playing DBD on a console or PC, how?

I clarified the sentence you highlighted. The part that I don't think makes much of a difference is specifically dodging a hit, not the existence of Dead Hard in general. So yes, between chases where a survivor has DH and dodges a hit, and chases where the survivor does not have DH, I don't think there's that much of a difference. DH gives them something - it doesn't do nothing - but it's not enough to be a problem and honestly rarely even that impactful.
That's not to say it never extends a chase significantly, just that I find that happens pretty rarely.
I didnt ask for a clarification of what you had previously said.
I asked for an answer to my specific question that I expressed to you, on what you had said.
You have not answered that question.
Let me repeat it for you here, so you dont get lost and befuddled trying to find it or addressing it specifically, verbatim:
"If you think it doesnt make that much of a difference, are you then of the opinion that if DH did not exist, the length and eventual success of chases would not be much changed?"
-
@jesterkind said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2585254#Comment_2585254
When it's used to dodge a hit, the length of the chase isn't that different most of the time. It's when DH is used to make distance and reach a strong tile that it extends chases to a serious degree.
You didnt answer the question. You made up another one of your own imagination and answered that instead.
Please go back and read the original question.

No, if an instadown is generally active you have a second chance to nullify its effect. Health states in of themselves are second chances. Dead hard is your second chance in light of anticipating instadown. So if a killer runs make your choice. You approach the hook injured because now you the insta down can be dodged. Does this make sense?
So instadown removes a second chance by effectively removing a health state, and deadhard helps replenish that second chance despite the instadown.
I see what you mean, but that is not in contradiction to what I said above, its "additional" to it, because Dead Hard (for reasons that are not clear and rather arguable) provides a very short hit/effect immunity in addition to the dodge effect.
And that frankly just makes DH even more heinous, and why its so "stuck" in meta to the point that it completely changes how chases (and other Killer actions) have to run.
-
There still isnt any evidence that anything has actually happened, let alone by a "hacker" through DBD.
This is starting to take on rather concering aspects of mass hysteria as I watch how this is snowballing in peoples minds as they pile on speculations, "think of the children"-style slippery slope concerns, and hyperbole extending to demanding BHVR do something about which we dont even know it has infact happened, or how.
-
"Even so, I find the chase isn't usually extended that much by just dodging a hit unless the survivor's already in a strong area, so even then I genuinely don't think that aspect of it is necessarily a problem."
If you think it doesnt make that much of a difference, are you then of the opinion that if DH did not exist, the length and eventual success of chases would not be much changed?
-
Since Dead-Hard is only activeable when you are already injured, it doesnt matter if the incoming hit is an insta-downer or not.
See what I mean?
-
None of which has been substantiated with any evidence.
All there is here is two OPs claiming something happened that they blame on hackers, and randoms piping in with anectodal unrelated examples and pure speculation.
-
"A 4-second chase could be made into a 2-minute chase just if the Survivor has Dead Hard."
That sums it up perfectly. The payoff is disproportionate.
A) Unlike exhaustion perks generally, its specifically Survivor controlled to activate it, and even worse, it can be flicked to angle off the current trajectory which causes some apparent problems with hitboxing.
B) This perk does things to chases that can have enormous consequences, and its so ubiquitous that its changed the entire paradigm how chases are run, whether its slotted or not, or off cooldown or not.
-------------
I dont like it in the game, and noteably I also dont use it as Survivor.
Infact I dont slot ANY exhaustion perks, but thats my own preference.
-
"I think until proven otherwise, it's a perfectly reasonable assumption to say it is the hackers fault."
Thats the exact opposite of how proof works to come to reasonable assumptions.
"Entirely possible they just overloaded the consoles cpu and gpu and the console got [BAD WORD]."
You made everything in that up.

Ok... but some one else replied to me saying that it took an eternity to make changes. And I simply said its not a survivor exclusive thing
You even replied to that one, so again. Whats your point with this whole hatch thing?
I suppose my point was to your inference that Hatch is a "balance" change that is relevant to the Killer vs Survivor asymmetry.
It isnt. It pertained primarily to resolving what I said above regarding conflicting priorities for Survivors from the way it was implemented before. As to Moris, when they became post-2nd Hook, they lost any relevance in Killer vs Survivor asymmetry also.
Neither of these are the kinds of balance issues OP is addressing regarding perks, and especially these new blessing ones that piggytail onto the Hex system and Totem mechanic (and arguably not very well).

Not entirely true about hacking being the least likely a few years back on consoles (not dbd) we had to turn off messaging from public people because people were coding the messages to brick your system until you used the app to delete that message
That doesnt seem to be what is happening here though, is it.
And even then in that example you put, there too hacking was the least likely of causes for a console to brick.
PS: What game, what console, what message and what app are you talking about?
-
"So I have no idea where youre getting at with this whole Hatch spiel"
From your earlier post stating:
"Yeah thats why they changed hatch right?"
However, yes, we have strayed from OPs original post, which was in particular about how other perks work vs these new boon totem perks.

@DelsKibara said:
Hey if anyone of the mods read this, I think the thread got derailed.
Relax. PC vs Console fanism is as old as both platforms and likely will continue until consoles/PCs become essentially the same thing in some not so distant future.
As to topic, we dont know what happened to OPs PS4. There are any number of things that can brick a PS (or PC for that matter) and usually "hacking" is the least likely of all.
-
Operative term: "Were" more problematic.
Since then, they have not been problematic in the least, and have no reflection on balance whatsoever.
Hatch was not a "balance" problem. But it was creating conflicting imperatives for Survivors that was leading to unsatisactory results in game experience especially for solo-qers abandoned by SWF teamers with their keys etc, or even when 2 soloquers are left and both of them just wait for the other to die at the Hatch.
This Hatch solution now is much better, and like the Mori above it, has very little impact on "balance", and tbh I question a bit if a Killer gets unduly upset that a Survivor reaches it first.
In this format it creates a nice final "mini-game" between Survivor and Killer.
More concerning for a Killer is if slug X over there is gonna pop Unbreakable while he is watching the hook Y over here that it doesnt jump off the hook, and either of them then starts the whole circus show again. Have to leave the slug X down too, cos maybe lost count and dont know if he has DS or not.

I play as a 4 man or 3 man regularly and its not easy to get 5 gens done with a camping killer at all. 3 is reasonable to expect and 4 at best in most cases - at which point the killer is already in chase and can usually get another. OH and they usually still have the most BP.
Just doing gens isnt that simple when traversing the map and trying to find them, accounting for attempts to rescue etc. I can be in a game and looking for a gen with corrupt on and my friend has done 50% on one..
Are you trying to claim that its harder to win against a camping Killer, than it is vs a Killer that actually pressures you around the map?
Be careful how you answer this in relation to what you said above.

Camping and Tunnelling are already penalized by The Entity in terms of BPs.

Yeah but I’m just saying that it’s not always an automatic win for survivors. Even without slowdown every killer is viable. I’ve been able to snowball with my best killers and win without slowdown. Some maps like Mother’s Dwelling are too big and need adjusting but I think the myth that the game is heavily in the survivors favor isn’t true.
"Yeah but I’m just saying that it’s not always an automatic win for survivors."
Where has anyone said otherwise?
This has always been about probability/likelihood of outcome as well as statistical data on factual outcomes.
I dont get why some people do this, that they present their arguments in contra as if someone else had actually stated an absolute like that.

Just like how killers made certain things problematic like Mori's.
Both sides have had and still have problematic things that are out of their control.
Moris dont make much of a difference, as they require two hook status, and third hook would be fatal anyways.
They dont even necessarily save any time from carrying to final hook, as the animations have their own duration anyways.
They dont have a significant effect ingame, except as flavor.
Hatch AND Moris both are not really a balance issue.
On Hatch part, however, it was leading to some "toxic" behavior by other Survivors towards teammates which was not conducive to a good match.

RPD is the map that should have been removed.

I disagree. There are some scenarios where you’re on a dead zone Wreckers Yard against Blight with Ruin Undying Tinkerer Pop, the Blight will win that most likely.
Thats a 4 slowdown build, a specific map, and one specific Top 4 Killer.... as win "most likely".
Thats not much of a margin....

It takes them an eternity to deal with anything frustrating on both sides.
And honestly I cant blame them, when you have such a whiny community who have some of the worst takes on balance. Its really hard to tell what's actually unbalanced and whats fine especially if they look at data and everything is seemingly fine
Player behavior related to Hatches was always a Survivor problem, not a Killer one.
Its Survivors that made the Hatch a problematic mechanic, for themselves (and the Killer).
Killer has little to no control of the hatch, now or before, except stomping it shut.
-
Stomping on Boons over and over is getting tiresome, plus often they are located in corners that you have to look at very specifically to stomp.
Having said that, Id be OK if there was atleast a more prominant directional and proximal audio que of a Boon nearby, and also WHILST the Boon is being set up, there should be a sound in its area of effect.

Malicious or broken code can definitely damage your system. Myself and one other forum member a couple years ago were playing after an unstable update. The code caused a malfunction in my system that bypassed the overheat safety shutdown, causing the fan to whir louder and louder and a huge power surge to occur that knocked out power to the entire circuit of my house. These types of malfunctions can lead to fires, bricking, or other serious damage to your wiring (and even though I filed a ticket, Behavior failed to address the issue or acknowledge how dangerous what happened was).
While DBD never made the news cycle for this, Anthem did because it was much more wide spread and bricked a significant number of systems. Therefore it's no surprise to me that this could happen. Make sure to file a ticket with Behavior, be detailed in what occurred, and please feel free to use me as a reference if you feel it would help your case. Good luck and I hope they are responsive to this issue.
But in this case and in yours it wasnt "hackers" that would have caused it. For that, you would have to be running somekind of malware to allow them access to your system.
What you describe above then, if it happened as you described, caused either by BHRV programming or some more local effect in your PC or electrical network.

I know DC penalties are not a ban. It's irrelivant to what this post is about.
I haven't seen evidence either but we have someone here who's PS5 stopped working after facing one. It could be unrelated but those things aren't cheap so it should be looked into.
And not just brushed away cause he could have DCed. That's not a solution
My intention was to explain why people were bumping heads with them without the use of petty namecalling like the others did.
Not sure how you thought i was speaking fighting words when i even said it probably wasen't their intention.
Not sure what kind of accutations you are talking about either. The only accutations made was that they missed the point of the post and worded their response somewhat poorly. That's not what i would call picking a fight.
Nor do i see any facts i could be missing. This post is here for everybody to read.
Its a fact that DC Penalty is not a ban, is temporary, and the function of which is to prevent DC abuse to wreck matches for others.
Its a fact that nowhere here is there any evidence that a "hacker" bricked a PS5 through DBD.
As to "intentions" you dont know his, and we dont know yours, and nobody started talking about "intentions" till you did.
Ive never heard of a "hacker" bricking a PS5 on DBD. It is however entirely possible that DBD itself bricks a PS5, on its own, if some certain critical functions of it are impaired or overriden whilst running on that platform.
I really dont see what your point has been this entire thread and in your responses in it.
Fact is we dont know that any "hacker" bricked his PS5 through DBD, and frankly that is the LEAST likely of any number of other possible reasons why this specific PS5 in this specific persons use stopped working.

You are being called out cause you are focussing on the wrong thing.
You shouldn't have to risk losing a very expensive piece of hardware just cause you didn't pull the plug fast enough against a hacker.
The reason why he didn't dc instantly is completly irrelevant to the issue at hand.
The way you worded it also made it sound like you put the blame on them. Which i'm sure wasen't your intention but that's what it looked like
DC Penalty is not a ban. Its a temporary suspension to prevent repeated DC abuse.
That has been discontinued now for a bit, due to the game itself causing DCs until they fix it.
Nowhere have I seen any evidence that a "hacker" can brick a PS5 through DBD, much less a PC.
You are the one throwing around serious terms like "victim blaming" and making implicative accusations of others based on facts you dont know about. We also dont know your intentions either, but it seems that you are just trying to pick a fight over nothing, and jumping onto somekind of gangwagon.
Please stop, and get your facts straight first.
