Different mmr brackets can have different killer behaviour, would be my best guess !
I've played a dozen games since the update and haven't been camped yet (tunneled twice). In fact, I've seen a lot of very chill, nice killers who send love in postgame chat.
That being said, I'm pretty low mmr I would guess, and I'm often matched with chill casual killers.
I think it happens across the board on the reg.

I've played three games tonight.
One was against a Legion with 15 hours.
Next was against a streamer playing Nurse. Took us to Midwich and that was that.
Last one was against a Skull Merchant doing the tried and true 3-gen strat.
Honestly, we probably could've won against the Dull Merchant but I guess nobody felt like sticking around for an hour.
My games consisted of the buttery biscuit boy Bubbah face camping immediately (did the same, the night before.)
I love when we go against Onryo players because they almost NEVER camp the hook: they spend so much time putting pressure on us, and it is challenging BUT enjoyable.
I really want to see more of the devs playing the game and getting demolished like that beautiful-- magical day Mathieu was stomped in as Hag (and she was promptly buffed after.) Could be a case of Schadenfreude because I'm 100% convinced that they're simply not playing enough, and experiencing enough, of this game to understand just HOW bad camping is.

I played 10+ games of survivor tonight. Wasn't face camped once. These posts seem unbelievable to me because I don't share in the experience at all like ever. Only time I get camped is if I piss a killer off and loop them for awhile or at endgame.
Your post seems unbelievable to ME because I don't share in the experience at all. Only time I never get camped is if the killer isn't pissed off or doesn't feel like playing the loop game until the end.
I don't know if it is denial or if you're really making the surprised Pikachu, one finger to your cheek looking up in disbelief face and hear about this experience which is SO common for survivors. Like come on, literally don't act obtuse lol

They can, they just need to be careful about it, I think. It needs to be constructive.
I can't really say anything when it comes to certain content creators that people like to bring up. I've seen people banned for that and I'm not trying to follow suit.
I'm always of the mind that if you need to ban people for criticizing content creators, or as a creator you can get banned or in trouble (like what happened to DOWSEY) then there is an issue with the team.
I think it comes down to the hallucinated positions of authority, and privileges' associated with being in the industry: if the Emperor is naked, tell him that he is. But I understand your position. I've made direct posts about a CERTAIN Community Manager here mispronouncing Otzdarva's name as if he had no idea who they were, saying it super confused, which-- yeah, didn't look good.

I actually started taking the survey, hit this group of questions and stopped caring, then saw all the cosmetic questions and then being to wonder, who actively made these survey questions.
Just-- why were so many questions asking me what I thought about these girls dressed in their oufits?
I don't give a damn, lol, and not a SINGLE one was for David, Dwight, or anyone else. This was absolutely ridiculous.
-
All of the questions about the cosmetics was ridiculous-- asking me how I felt about them, and it was ONLY their female survivor's cosmetics.
Came across as largely sexist imo.
Truth be told a lot of the questions in this survey missed the mark.

I see people heal each other in 6 seconds all the time, sometimes less.
This is circumstantial though. Not every game has quick 6 second healers.
-
Im right there with you.
The coming update is completely hot garbage. These decisions make no sense to the playerbase and the devs, as usual, refuse to take the L for when they make a bad decision.
Nerfing Billy - Who exactly asked for this? The Overheat mechanic is ludicrous and no one likes it. But you're going to nerf his add-ons, the VERY thing people use to have fun with him? Some milquetoast, khaki pants wearing pencil pusher who unironically enjoys NFTs probably read a spreadsheet and made this insipid decision.
Healing nerfs are only going to make SoloQ even harder for casual players: the Circle of Healing Nerf makes 0 sense in the end, but, please refer to the description above.
Scourge? Why even have it at this point?
Deadhard's nerf is AGAIN only going to encourage tunneling, the developers favorite strategy (that everyone basically hates or at best tolerates.)
Oni's add-ons, which no one uses, were touched. Why? Who asked? No one did.
Incentivized MORE camping/tunneling to the point it's just boring.
What's that? No new mechanics? No new THINGS to do? Sure sounds to me like they just desperately needed to punctuate the pipeline with a "look, we're doing stuff," update. Honestly, I'm beginning to really think it is just leadership in the team as to why things are going south so continuously. Where are the community manager's taking notes? Where are any of them?
Just hiding behind desks, not interacting with the community. What's the point of being a developer/manager if you don't do any of these things in a meaningful way?
-
For a game learning more towards the competitive side, not having a voice coms is just the DBD developers and BHVR being obstinate and ignorant.
Proximity chat would at LEAST help out a little bit, if anything to add immersion.
-
Completely Agree.
The Developers really have no idea how to balance this mangled corpse of a game anymore.

I had to laugh at the Arguments against Voice-coms bit at 12:58
I wholeheartedly believe that voice chat in dead by daylight would solve a large portion of the game's cultural and balancing problems however I want to make clear that this voice chat should be optional on by default but you have the option to turn it off if you want there is literally no good reason in 2023 to not have this feature in any multiplayer game ever made whatsoever any arguments against these features at this point is just cope and I will not hear any of them because they frequently make no sense there are so many problems solved by the introduction of a voice chat that it is asinine to not added at this point
Sounds like he is coping a bit himself. I hope someone will make a better constructive argument for the idea.
Seems a bit of an insipid rebuke by calling it a "cope", tu quo que, really?
There have been numerous explanations around voice chat, or even proximity chat being a good tool for handling the game's more competitive leaning tendencies, and additionally it'll cure a lot of Survivor Boredom that occurs. There's just not REALLY a substantial reason to not have VC, especially if Voice Chat also comes with the added cost of revealing your location to a stalking killer.
Can we get an explanation as to why you think this is coping? I would prefer something a little more in depth if that's the only thing you took out of the entire video. :3

Except apparently not.
It's okay though, BHVR decided the to solve the problem by pretending it doesn't exist. All the people that were repeatedly having their internet kicked off while play the game were simply imagining it.
Thank you for the call outs because the amount of coping/defending is ridiculous.
Put pressure on them. This is unacceptable. YEARS later and they cannot hire a Cyber Architect to help with this issue? Or even move beyond Easy AntiCheat?

@Phantom_ said:
The thing that has been very noticeable is the fact that players have been saying, time and time again, where the problems are, given a ton of constructive critism, feedback and genuinely good ideas on the daily.
But what keeps happening is that it either gets swiped under a rug because of some nonsensical "argument" much of which have no basis in ANY other game, like adding an FOV slider, visual/audio improvements.
Why is it so hard to add the basest features literally every other game has?? Heck people have been asking for a search bar for the perks/add-ons for years, and instead we get more charms/skins for Feng 😅 The when people rightfully get upset, because it sometimes is like talking to a wall, they get banned from here as well...
The core issue is that the most important objective of the game on survivor side is boring as hell. Why not add other better, and more fitting objectives? Heck remove the whole gen idea and replace it with something that makes sense lore-wise, and adds to the horror genre of this game. Make the maps deathly mazes for all I care, have the survivors have to find multiple items to escape the building in Macmillan and then find parts of a gen to do them, while the killer is on the loose.
They should add several modes: with the option to play with 10 people: 8 survivors and 2 killers. Whether it's in customs lobbies only, or both, just add more options.
They've talked about how "oh uwu, it would take time and money to do this."
So you're gonna instead spend 7 years in an extended alpha? At least 7 Days to Die, which is still in Alpha, continuously does QOL updates and adds new stuff to it and their team is smaller than DBD's team and don't have BHVR's 250 million behind it.
The truth is, the devs are complacent because BHVR is complacent. They don't NEED to do any of these things because they want that Fortnite Meme Cosmetic Money. The cosmetics are mid at best, half the time they're mega overrated.
That's why posts like this NEED to be pushed right up to their noses because we, as a community are exhausted by this.
-
@SMitchell8 said:
Story mode would be quite good. 1 player v killer (ai) Only viable for killers with there own realm, which is a decent chunk of them. Each story has objectives and things to do revolving around said killers lore.
It would be nice if daily challenges were scary, and made lore sense?
Like for the Trapper, maybe you can find pages of his diary detailing his up bringing in a better way than the kind of-- lame recordings?
-
Honestly, as a community, we have to let BHVR/DBD team know that the level of complacency we're seeing (like no solution to the DDoS,) and them refusing to make actual changes like in that dreaded dev stream is not enough.
You're always going to make money BHVR, but you seriously can't upgrade Easy AntiCheat?
Meme cosmetics are nice but this game has been in extended alpha for 7 years, on Unreal 4, and it doesn't even FEEL like this is an unreal 4 engine. It is insanity at this point and we as a community REALLY deserve better than having our own community manager mispronounce the name of one of the MOST known players, and say their name like "oh gee, I dunno who this is."
That whole attitude is the entire team. Blasé, and unmotivated. They'll cope for hours around why SBMM doesn't need to change, they'll cope about voice chat and how it nullifies certain perks (guess you better make your paycheck by putting in ACTUAL developer work,) but there are solutions to all of this. Hell, WE could figure it out for you (and your spaghetti code.)
-
Good comments.
Too bad we'll never get any of these things in the game because BHVR knows they can make money of meme cosmetics and appealing to thirst.
Hopefully when TCSM and Killer Clowns comes out, they'll feel the heat and ACTUALLY do something different.
-
Its crazy because Wesker, Dredge, and Onryo are gerat-- but now they're pushing this 3-Gen, Dead-Zone meta and even the notable DBD streamers on youtube are completely bored of her because she is miserable to play, AND to play against.
All of this because DBD is, at this point, an unhealthy game.
-
Give 'em a chance to disappoint us yet again ;)
They REALLY need to stop releasing content and focus on health issues with the game.
-
Also there is SBMM.
You sound like you're new and all ready jaded.
-
Good luck. The devs delete all these threads half the time.

Sometimes if a mod is cleaning up the thread will be hidden until they remove rule breaking posts, as well.

You can play almost every single Killer at a high level and do perfectly fine in 95% of your games.
What does doing perfectly fine mean? What is the end score?
I second this. What is "perfectly fine."
Why do people insist on such broad, general terms like we just know what that means as a killer? Is it 8 hooks? is it 2 sacrifices + 4 hooks?
Is it 3-Gening survivors and just ruining the experience for everyone?
-
I'd like to say the issue is Survivors AND Killers.
This victim mentality, this blaming mentality of saying "its not me, its them," literally doesn't build a community. And if you think Killers can't be toxic or happy, honestly, do you even browse the forms?

Well, you said it yourself- the Entity needs survivors to feel some degree of hope. Wouldn't it be more hopeful to be somewhere a little brighter?
Besides, like I said, the gloomy aesthetic isn't a requirement for horror. Brightly lit places can be foreboding and scary even in real life- ever been in a hospital long after dark? Empty, sterile halls, with harsh and unnatural lights making it impossible to tell how long you've been there or what time it is unless you get to a window...
Or, to repeat my earlier example, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Parts of that movie do take place at night, but parts of it take place during the day, and they all contribute to that movie's masterful horror tone.
The name is just a name, it's okay if not everything in the game follows it to the letter. Not every character in Overwatch is from the actual organisation Overwatch, for example.
As for Trickster, it doesn't really matter why they decided to make him, what matters is if he's a horror character- and he is, very much so. Same as Skull Merchant.
It would make more sense for well lit areas to be threatening/dangerous if the lighting in the game actually lent to that. There's so many aura revealing perks it's kind of pointless to need to play on Coldwind, for instance, because of visibility. I LOVE the dynamic lighting of the upcoming TCM game, it looks legit spooky because the sheer contrast gives it more than just everything being dark blue. Dynamic lighting/shadows changes the experience insanely.
"As for Trickster, it doesn't really matter why they decided to make him, what matters is if he's a horror character- and he is, very much so. Same as Skull Merchant."
To this part, well, it's kind of the argument of "well he was made to be horror, so there you go, the end."
We can criticize intentions, especially if the intent is just to piggy back off what is current but then not do much else. SM is an example of the faults of piggy backing off the "Sex sells," energy and really falling flat. SM is bad design, part of the overarching aesthetic/design direction that the game has been facing.
-
Definitely seems they're relegating their decision making to whats popular, which is not inherently bad but-- Trickster was to appeal to the K-Pop influx, Stranger Things for obvious reasons-- Resident evil for obv reasons (though Wesker is amazingly well made.)
I think, honestly, the developers are either completely UNABLE to create a dynamic light engine for this game, or they simply want to appeal to the newbie players as much as possible by removing all spooky, oooOOOooO elements from the game entirely which is why it is so well lit. I personally love the darker levels we still get now and then, like the Yamaoka Estate, or Midwhich, Badham, etc,. But it would be nice to an actually improvement to the aesthetic.
Skull Merchant, like others said above, is a BLATANT attempt to appease the Horni and the 3-Gen Meta (which no one likes, because it is boring.) Her Lore is absolutely hot garbage.
"She studied at the library."
I'm sorry. What writer actually crafted that little nugget that's legit in her wiki. She studied investment and economics at the library and shazam, she's rich? Maybe the devs are having as much burn out as the rest of the community?
-
Sorry but a lot of people are going to disagree with you on this, especially well respected youtubers who are killer mains that also agree the 3-Gen meta is boring, unfun to play with/against and causing player burn out.
SM is a problem. She was rushed out, its plain as day. But the DNA of DBD is tenuous in its longevity and players are feeling the burnout from the issues. Gen spawns have always been rocky at best (with some gents spawning unbelievably close to each other.)

1 out of 3 is still not 50%.
No way. I flunked math. Thanks for clearing that up for me!
-
The core DNA of DBD is camping/tunneling which are things gamers have LONG had an issue with. I can't think of anyone who gleefully declares that camping is ok/fun without having at least THREADS of troll DNA in their system. I think the issue with DBD is they didn't try to find more unique things to do in the game (like utilizing more harsh lighting/luminosity contrast) and other things other than windows, pallets and random stuff. It's kind of like they painted them-selves into a corner, and here we are.
-
@Nos37 said:
I don't enjoy being tunneled out of the match either, but it's the result of the game's core mechanics and the nature of assymetry.
As long as 3 survivors repair gens slower than 4 (incentivizing the killer to reduce the number quickly), and as long as 2 survivors are at the hook the moment of unhooking (strong reason to return to the hook), tunneling will be a part of the game.
If they somehow prevent killers from tunneling, they need to also prevent survivors from tunneling (gens). A mini basekit Deadlock effect, where gens are blocked at 50% completion for a brief duration. If the killer is forced to chase someone else, the survivors should be forced to go repair a different gen.
If gens could post here in the forums, there'd be tons of posts about survivors camping and tunneling them.
Best post I've seen so far that wasn't some condescending person boiling it down to "get better," and "not our fault you can't have fun."
-
@Technature said:
I've played like ten games and I was not tunnelled a single time, nor did I see anyone being tunnelled.
There was even a point where it felt like it at the time, but no, I just went down a window and the killer never saw me until I landed right in front of them.
I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I don't think it happens 50% of the time.
This is your experience and not a good metric.
I get tunneled/face camped pretty frequently, and on stream can see the killer face camping people in my squad usually one out of every 3 games I play. It's more common than people realize, I've got a whole record of just how often it occurs lol
-
@Batusalen said:

Many more killers are tunneling because the moment 4 survivors that know what they are doing (SoloQ or SWF thanks to the Status HUD) are in your game you either take one survivor before the 3º gen is done or it is almost a lost game. Some high mobility killers like Wesker have an easier time, but most M1 killers without mobility powers don't.
Anyway, like it has happened with other things I saw in this forum, I started playing as survivor and I didn't see that the tunneling and camping "problem" is so frequent as people say, and many time I suffered it is because someone had the brilliant idea of unhooking me at 5 meters of the killer.
Also, your fun is not anyone responsibility but yours. You have to make your fun. Don't like getting tunneled? Get better at looping or play more stealthy. But you can't pretend for people to not play to win in a competitive game just because it interferes with your fun. It's like asking someone in Fortnite to not kill you at the drop site because "It's not fun to be killed before I could even get a weapon". It's how the game works, that's it.
Get off your high horse with that final paragraph lol
-
Bro RPD is so good if you're a trapper Main. I get a 4-stack every time I go there.
I think most indoor maps are very Killer oriented, they're generally smaller and depending on who you're running you'll have higher success.

This.
Out of all the games I had against Skull Merchant, only one did not find 3 gens close to each other and camp them excessively.
In the end, I just drug the game out because in each situation the survivors were getting chased out, DC, etc,. These matches go on forever and its ridiculous these drones have Infinite + 4 at the start? I like the Knight's Guards because he gets haste now + they don't last forever, they move around, and it's a dope concept.

Looping/running for endless time is boring as hell. I thought DBD was originally about being sneaky? They've just moved so much away from stealth, and focused so much on just-- running?
Skull Merchant, imo, is the product of the game's inherently flawed DNA and them(the devs) thinking somehow that 3-Gen meta is a thing anyone wants to deal with? They could just introduce more in world mechanics aside from lockers, and pallets-- there's so much potential. TCSM is going to be a heavy hitter I think because of what they've talked about so far.

Yes, and that's the reason why you should do at least ONE of them.
Dunno if the fact that the SM is just 3-gen camping off the bat is being overlooked, but that's part of the bigger issue.
Depending on the map (you're doomed if it's indoors) SM players are 3 gen camping some gens which sometimes have close proximity from the moment they spawn, and that's pretty much it. Stationary, unrelenting camping.
I've seen killers remarking that this is a blisteringly boring way to play.

I would argue that it likely isn't the developers/programmers who are to blame for anything. They simply follow directions from their management. If you're going to blame a group from the company then blame the right people.
I'll agree with this because the sheer lack of communication between the actual team the community makes it really hard to pint point WHO is at fault for this bad changes, the quality of life issues, etc,.
But then again, when I look at the quality of their twitter posts where they just have survivors in a winter map, in a stationary pose with "waiting for winter to end" with winter clothes-- I wonder if there REALLY is just a quality issue through out the entire DBD staff? They can't be bothered to even pose survivors? Just a lazy in game snapshot?
All of it just seems reflective of them just sort of throwing stuff at the wall, seeing what sticks, and that's good enough. IF it is also upper management, well, we can't do much because they're basically untouchable in terms of criticism which is why they stay so hidden. They let the little guy suffer it.

The devs can't win in that regard. When they bring out anti-loop killers, survivors complain that looping is pointless and all they can do is hold Shift + W.
When they bring out killers without anti-loop, killers complain that they just get looped for ages and can't do anything.
With how the game currently is though, killers do need -some- kind of anti-loop in their kit or else you simply can't beat a team of good loopers. Some really good survivors simply -don't- fall for mind games and then the chase is literally just circling a pallet a half-dozen times, hit them, they run to another loop, you run around it another half-dozen times, then Dead Hard... That or it's pre-drop every pallet on the map while their teammates bash out gens.
This is largely because the game's core meta and now playstyle is based around obnoxious, and old gameplay strategies that should have translated 5 years later.
Your options are Loop Forever, Facecamp Survivors, 3 Gen Hostage or just don't play.
Bully squads running head on, boil over, etc, and just looping you into infinity is because the maps are poorly designed and game of hide and seek became a game of Chase, and it shows. I just think the team is incapable of addressing the conflicting issues of this game because these issues are hard-baked into it's DNA.
But what do I know. I'm just a Trapper Main and nothing else lol

- You don´t want to hear it, but rush gens. You can be mad about that advice as much as you want, but thats it. Its relevant tactic waht is happening all the time. And do you know how many times after reset of grades I saw players rushing camping Bubba? Is it killer´s fault that they are simpleminded enough to hook rush camping Bubba? Or do you think when killer see that 2 or 3 people are around the hook, which means colosal stupidity, he has some reasons to leave the hook? He know that they are not doing gens. He know that they are here, around the hooked survivor, and thats all he need to know.
- Camping is caused by so many reasons, but most of the time its caused by gens being rushed so hard, where 30 seconds for first gen is not so,mething impossible in my games, because in my games, my teammates, have BnP almost as a common thing if I overexeggerate it. But THE MOST COMMON CAUSE of camping is hook rush when its not neccesarry. I saw so many times like people rush hooks when they see with Kindred that killer is near by the hook and 5 gens are still a thing they stop everything and start to hook rush.
- Many games till I got to high level was like that. Now when I have camping killer in my game for me and for rest of us its easy escape. When I´m camped I´m giving as many time as possible to my teammates to repair gens and escape with me, because unlike you have Bubba, Billy or Infinite Myers you can be asured that survivors what know what to do will mob the floor with killer. With base kitt BT its even easier than before. Distraction after distraction and theere is a little what killer can do. When I saw today how perfectly I was saved by teammates at end game where I was heavily camped it was very impressive to watch. And it was nothing heroical. They just made perfectly timed blocks even without coms. You don´t need it. When I see that they are rushing hook its easy to made distraction. Killer need time to recover from weapon swing and thats a window for other survivor. There is so many tools how to deal with camping yet people are still refusing to do it. Its not rocket science. Just use simple math. You have as a team 120 seconds to unhook him. Do you know how much time it is? 120 seconds in DbD is crucial for most of the actions.
- And tons and tons of things. I can elaborate anything you want how to easily outsmart camping killer. But it require atleast basic knowledge about the game mechanic. Most of the people complaining about camping are begginers. And anytime I want to see how they are playing they refuse, because they are afraid of being debunked. But that doesn´t matter. Their lack of knowledge about the game is displayed by their description of certain situations.
This is an unbelievable waste of time: nothing you're saying isn't all ready known, and the reply is full of generalizations about individual survivor skills that you're generalizing (which, whatever on that I guess): face camping occurs regardless of survivor skill (just take a look at Demi videos on youtube, he is face-camped incessantly.)
You have a tendency to post very length passages which can be surmised in one sentence or two. Maybe work on that.
So, to your point about rushing gens: yeah, go for it. If you're on the hook at least 2 survivors should be on gens. This is basic and not some hidden advice you get from a level 50 survivor. No duh, lol.
Camping is caused by enumerable reasons from flawed game design, to a perk system which can be abused by survivor bully squads, to killers who know they cannot be punished for doing it. THAT is the discussion here: its the act of holding someone's game hostage, and there being no intelligent or at least thoughtful solution to it.
This doesn't mean it should unbalanced one way or the other: its a risk/reward system, and the reward is largely situational.
Oh I KNOW you can elaborate (and the surface of your keyboard is smooth by now haha.) Nothing you've said hasn't been spoken or understood by others, but the conversation still needs to occur to find a balance between a Killer being able to guard their hooks while keeping the risk/reward factor at the forefront of survivor playing.

I get camped for about 50% of my games. It is exhausting because you waste SO much time just sitting there: there is no fun.
This is largely due to issues within DBD and the devs just outright refusing to discuss problems related to camping, tunneling, etc,.

Honestly I encounter face camping nearly every game. I know BHVR likes to pretend this isn't an issue and "oH bUt iF tHe kIlLeR iS cAmPiNg rUsH gEnS."
Spare me that insipid rhetoric. Getting face camped by a Shape and being unable to leave the game because I get put in the uwu time out box is ridiculous.
Just tonight I was camped for over half of the games that I played: tunneling is just because of awful map/level design (and game design,) but that is a whole separate issue.
You always see milquetoast replies from sweaty pseudo captains but we're talking about the individual experience of a player whose game has been completely stalled (and routinely.) It's evident across the forums, people do not like it, and to argue otherwise is an intellectual farce to sound like they have an elevated opinion on the matter.
This doesn't mean Killers should be completely disadvantaged from keeping a survivor on the hook. But jeez, you mean to tell me you can't play the game ANY other way other than just standing with our nip-nops touching? BHVR needs to actually address it and stop posting nonsense on their twitter, and investigate quality of life stuff in the game, instead.
