Guys we finally know why killers tunnel!
Totally the reason! Not because its a very effective strategy.

"We are aware of and sorry about the tunneling issue, which is precisely why with every update we reduce the counterplay against it, so that you can be even more sorry by it.
With current SP you can theoretically have longer Elusive than the person being unhooked if you unhook really aggressively. It doesn't encourage tunnelling per se but it can make not tunnelling less feasible. Stealth/rat builds remove pressure on the individual but foist it on everyone else in the lobby, which can make tunnelling more likely: if one or two Survivors in the lobby are basically invisible half the time, then it stands to reason that the Killer is going to go after the Survivors that aren't simply by virtue of not being able to find the rats.
This patch note is wild seen it mentioned before.
Would love to see this launguge flipped honestly.
"X killer perk is encourging the surviours to rush the gens, so we nerfed it"
Exactly!
If the patch notes said "We are nerfing it from 30 to 15 seconds because we thought 30 seconds of elusive was too much" would have made WAAAAAAAAAY more sense.
I love how not wanting to be spotted by the killer is "rat" behavior.
I mean, if your team is about to die but you haven't been hooked once, then I'd be nice for you to take aggro.
If not, then it's more likely, that they are gonna die just for you to get out alone and unharmed.
That sounds a bit ratty to me...
Except there is no taking aggro for survivors. Sure you can body block and take a hit if the map geometry allows it but absolutely nothing forces the killer to chase you instead of looking for someone on death hook. All of this takes time that you could potentially be using to sit on a generator which might be exactly what your team needs to escape. So long as that player is contributing to the team in some way, which includes generators, they are not being a rat.
Also gotta love how they're indirectly admitting aura reading has become a vital crutch for many killer players. Now who's getting their hand held?
Ok but the only strictly anti-tunnel perk that was nerfed was shoulder the burden, and with the other survivor perks that were reworked, it is still super useful.
How is seeing survivors aura is getting handheld?, the game doesn't become easier in any way (less map knowledge is the only thing which is barely anything compared to some other things). Elusive doesn't remove just aura, basically everything that killer can track the survivors with like the breathing sound or the scratch marks, it does make it harder to find survivors and if the killer didn't find anyone then they are kinda forced to comeback to hook as they know there's 2 survivors there they can start chasing and interrupt healing instead of wasting time looking for someone they don't even know is close.
If you think that seeing survivors aura is "hand holding" then please tell me you think the same way about seeing aura of pallets and windows (WoO and Five moves ahead).
Borrowed time is getting reworked to uselessness as well, its anti-tunnel. And five seconds off unhook protections (elusive is not a fair trade for that). And before this off the record was nerfed. How much easier do we need to make this braindead tactic?
Reading the aura's of players is not at all the same thing as reading the auras of static objects.
being able to run directly at a survivor instead of having to find them first is absolutely making the game easier, how would it not?
Elusive is a response to the extreme excess of aura reading perks in the game, because killers are very rarely using anything but aura reading to find people anymore. that is why it's handholding, and the problem with that kind of handholding is that I agree, Elusive IS unhealthy, but it's become necessary, which is denying average killer players the ability to track survivors even if they aren't running aura reading. Elusive is also more prevalent because perks that solely deny aura reads are extremely bad. Distortion got obliterated, and there was nothing like it to take it's place.
Not only did you not read my post correctly, but you also did not fact check yourself either. Basekit bt is 10 seconds (down from 15), not 5. Off the record let's you have 40 seconds (almost half a gen worth) of endurance. Borrowed time passively mends your deepwound if the killer hits you while otr is active, which I would argue is way better than what it was before (outclassed entirely by otr). Now it let's you take 2 endurance hits of off hook if you have otr, dh, and can loop the killer for 30 seconds. Shoulder can force this setup onto the killer, because the person that uses shoulder becomes the tunneling target. You did not even mention the second survivor build I said with shoulder, plot twist, and ds after using shoulder the burden.
Maybe re-read what I wrote. "And five seconds off unhook protections." I am saying that they took five seconds off the unhook protections, because that is what they did. Maybe before you claim someone else didn't read make sure you read yourself.
If you do absolutely nothing to progress the game forward. Borrowed time was better against a killer returning to hook than off the record because of the additional time you got the speed boost and the additional endurance. This not extending the elusive was actually a good thing because it makes the killer much more likely to hit your endurance. Otr elusive effect doesn't matter against a killer with eyes on you. Passively mending does nothing unless you also have dead hard and requires the killer to hit you right off hook in the first place, this is useless 99% of the time. Most killers going for a tunnel don't hit your endurance they just stick to your back until it runs out, completely useless unless the killer sucks.
The person that shouldered was exposed before the change and will be broken after the change, in neither case do they get endurance without dead hard or some other perk in play. Borrowed time only mends you if you take the hit with endurance, useless.
??? Where? You don't mention this anywhere. Did you even read your own post?
Ill take the L on this one. I, like a dumbass, forgot I shortened my first draft of the comment to just my thesis rather than the whole essay for the sake of engagement. The second build I wanted to mention was shoulder, plot twist, ds, and dead hard.
Double standards...
being able to run to yellow aura and pressing space instead of having to use your brain and think where is the material is absolutely making the game easier, how would it not?
It does make the game easier but you still need to chase the survivor, seeing pallets and windows does actually help in chase which is the a much more important interaction than just finding the survivor, the killer still needs to chase.
If you think one is hand holding than don't tell me the other is not hand holding, it is just double standards at this point. Personally I don't care much about elusive.
A window is static, if the survivor looks around they can find and memorize the location, usually at minimum for the trial. The survivors are a moving target needing to not get caught. You are practically pointed to a live target that's trying to escape. Even if they move you can easily see their location when you proc whatever aura reading you have unless they explicitly have something to block it. It's "double standards" because they're different roles with different levels of impact.
You can use a plethora of methods to make chases easier including perks, powers, and simply herding the survivor away from those static resources. They can see the resources but if they can't get to them it's tough luck. You however can't use any of these without finding the survivor.
Not sure if I'd go to say it's completely hand holding, but killers are rapidly getting to the point of crutching on aura reading, not even counting judgements.
That isn't a double standard. Reading the aura of survivors is directly telling the killer where their objective is. Reading the aura of a pallet or window just lets the survivor have a chase instead of running to nothing and going down for free.
A ton of the roster can punish run to yellow → press space. That can get you hit against nurse, huntress, executioner, twins (if victor), trickster, nemesis, artist (with setup), knight (with setup), xeno, chucky, unknown, lich, drac, springtrap, henry, jason, judgment. Deathslinger and Doctor can also possibly get you depending on when you get there/the pallet size. Legion, wesker, ghoul, chucky, and krasue can just vault after you. Trapper and hag could have it trapped. Myers, Bubba, demo, oni (in power), blight, nemesis, knight, and singu all have options for shredding through any pallet dropped and more if you count add-ons. A whole bunch of killers could just beat you to the resource or down you before you get there.
To me it just looks like you are scared of actually having to put in a bit of effort to down the survivor and want it handed to you for free.
You'd have a point if this perk just blocked auras instead of blocking even basekit tracking. Even someone using no perks or addons will get effected.
Tbf preventing tunneling is quite literally presenting bargain deal to the killer. Some will just not tunnel because they don't want to. Some will tunnel if presented with a deal that they think would be worse for them in the end and some will do it no matter what.
But like with sprint burst/lithe, if I leave hook as a relatively mid-range killer, they get insta ripped the moment my terror radius is gone and the first two survivors I see pre-run exhaustion to main building… of course I'm going to go back as the chase most likely wont be worth my time. So, when I get back, I'm presented with another deal, try to find the unhooker that could be half way across the map due to Self Preservation by now or try looking for the survivor closer to death.
At least BHVR halfway attempted to address a reason WHY the killer would tunnel by nerfing the perk but it's still an inherent base game thing that needs to be addressed and not just a singular perk.
bruh this is the same reason they gave for distortion, do they play their own game. People return to the hook regardless lol
I don't think Distortion would even work with all the aura reading in current DBD. Most of the aura perks are on 30 second cooldowns now. Deerstalker and that new Judgement perk really ushered in the aura meta.
which is why its ridiculous its been nerfed to the point it's no use in the current scope of things
i agree. It should be brought back and even buffed. But seeing as how BHVR even made a killer like Jason that gets basekit information, they wanna force the chase meta. It doesn't matter if you aren't good at looping. BHVR hates you and thinks you should "git gud".
It's really sad how much BHVR is affected by the argument of: 'trust us, we'll play in a healthier manner if you make it easier'.
This made me laugh quite a bit. It actually was one of the reasons argued for when they showed the hook states directly on each survivor - just so the killer doesn't accidently tunnel.
Of course. 1 person in 10 matches running newly reworked SP was always the reason they went back to the hook.
