people holding 200+ ping should not be allowed to ready up as killer.
title
ridiculous that everyone has to endure a horrible game because someone has mcdonalds wifi. people with 200ms should not be allowed to ready up, it should say something like "Network is experiencing high traffic, please try again later.
if not, survivors should be allowed to abandon against red barring/vpning killers

unfortunately, BHVR does not care, they intentionally allow high ping killer to get advantage
What? It's not an easy thing to fix
agree with being able to abandon at more then 200 ping.
I love gameplay of having to drop every pallet two business days early.
It’s not to intentionally allow killer advantage. BHVR don’t care about high ping players ruining people’s games because of $. If they enforced a ping limit, it would exclude a certain percentage of the player base from playing the game and thus reduce their revenue.
Not to mention how people are allowed to vpn to servers they have no business playing on.
That's exactly it - same reason they won't make a separate lobby for new players - they don't want to increase wait times and thus alienate the most impatient of the player base (which I imagine is many) so they'd rather let high ping and noobs who don't have a clue carry on as is.
The problem is that ping is highly dependent on location to servers. Since DBD uses dedicated servers it means it is the responsibility of BHVR to place servers in areas. For some players, there is simply no close server and BHVR punishing players for their lack of servers would be a bad move.
It wouldnt be so bad if the netcode wasnt so terrible, it really needs fixed lol
So instead of punishing the minority of players who don’t live reasonable close to a server, they punish the majority who do by allowing high ping players to ruin games.
It's most certainly unreasonable to expect BHVR to prevent people from playing DBD just because they live in certain areas of the world.
So buying server infrastructure is hard to do? Sigh.6
Even if they get a competitive advantage (killers with high ping) by doing so? Ideally everyone should get equal access to the game, but at some point, accommodating a small minority of players becomes so much of a negative impact to the experience of to the vast majority that we have to draw the line.
Actually they did fix it, then because they bend over backwards for killer mains they removed it because it was stopping killers from getting free hits and kills.
You cant sell a product to people who dont live near the servers, then deny those people access to use said product. If you dont want Martians playing the game, dont sell to Martians.
I think the problem is more so the net code. The net code inherently favors the killer in almost all interactions, which is why you'll get sniped from 10 meters away by an m1. I have never played any other multiplayer game that I could feel my ping as much in as this one. What's worse is that it makes switching to killer frustrating because sometimes when I don't get a hit I think it's BS, but that's because that's what it's supposed to look like. It just makes me realize how much I've been getting robbed, especially because BHVR decided to put 2 servers on each cost of North America and not a single one in the middle so I'm stuck on 60-90ms
Why are you turning this into an “us vs them” argument? I play killer and I hate that BHVR refuse to fix this problem because I also play survivor and I hate getting hit from 10m away. Nobody who plays killer asked BHVR for this and I think you know that
Because it's important to know why it will never be fixed and I was there when they changed it. Almost every killer main was complaining that they saw they were getting hits and because they got the 'sound' of hitting a survivor on their end that's all that matters.
I still have this happen all the time in my killer matches where I will get the sound of the hit but then the hit validation system says “nope” and denies me the hit. So what you are describing still happens all the time and BHVR did not adjust it to appease “killer mains”.
Do you play killer, and if so, does this never happen to you in your matches?
At very least it happens to me still. Very often as Legion when in power and Pig when dashing at pallets, mostly against higher ping survivors who usually have the red bar indicating high ping or ones who have a fluctuating ping.
the majority of people arent playing frequently against 200 ping killers. players who cant have access to the game are 100% impacted. what a ridiculous comparison
It's always annoying when people go into the Us vs Them mode. Because at that point it makes the discussion muddy and it's just not good.
As others have said alienating a group you sold to is bad for business. Like I would love to fix this but at the same time, let's be honest some people have good Internet and still lose connection with the servers weirdly enough?
While you are technically correct, you have the point wrong. If you lookup the concept of "peekers advantage" in an fps like cs for example, you'll understand. By definition, just literally how networking works in general, the aggressor has the advantage. But in a game like DBD where only 1 side can actually be the aggressor it makes it feel like its "favoring 1 side" but that is just purely due to how online networking in multiplayer games functions in general and not due to the game itself favoring one side or the other. You can't really change that.
No, I know what your talking about because I've played pvp fps games a lot as well, and that does come into play somewhat in DBD, but it's mostly the net code. No other pvp game I've ever played is nearly as ping dependent as DBD. Besides a couple interactions like grabs and pallet stuns, it is based off of the killer's POV / connection. That's why when you're playing on normal ping as survivor against a super high ping killer, they can hit you from miles away: on your screen they're miles away, but the server prioritizes the killer's interactions and on the killer's screen they're right behind you, and when they hit you you suddenly teleport 5 meters further on the ground. I'm probably doing a bad job explaining it but I had the system explained to me and it's seriously bad
I really dont see why this is specifically a killer issue? Having survivors vavuum pallets from like 10 meters away or having to wait 5 seconds for every animation or not being able to pick up at all just cause their ping suddenly goes bonkers is also just annoying. Played Huntress yesterday against a survivor that fluctuated between 30 and 700ms, which basically means u have to M1 them cause u wont be able to hit them otherwise.
It's nice more people talk about this topic. No one wants to exclude people with high ping from playing the game, but you should be able to decide whether you want to play against them or not. Long ago killer's ping indicator was always in the lobby but they removed it.
But high ping survivors can be dodged because you them having high ping in the lobby.
Part of that is the tick rate btw.
DBD servers have a tick rate of 20. Whereas say valorant is 120.EDIT: This is untrue actually, with a google search looks like it USED to be true, but today it is 60.
Oh my god I didn't even know that. Isn't the standard 60??? That's ridiculous
I just googled actually, it used to be that but they upped to 60 at some point.
actually when I look it up online it says it used to be 30 but got updated to 60
hard agree on this one man
Not necessarily. Many players have good ping during the ready up and then their ping dies during the match
Is it really that big of a deal. Your basicly saying you wanna ban anyone who can't afford decent internet or ban those who doesn't live near servers that they have no control over.
Realisticly your not going against high ping killers often enough to make it a major issue. If you are then maybe your connecting to the wrong servers and your game is the issue not the killers.
How would you react if you booted up the game to play DBD and for several weeks you were hit with "Network is experiencing high traffic, please try again later" all because you didnt live near enough to the closest server?
unfortunately- (and this is gonna sound harsh) but its the TRUTH. someone having bad connection is NOT anyone elses problem but THEIR OWN. if you have bad hardware, its you're issue to fix, not everyone elses to put up with.
Realistically if you have bad internet you probably shouldnt be playing pvp online games full stop, theres plenty of story or offline games that accommodate you're internet.
theres a massive difference between having a minor hiccup during match compared to holding a consistent 300ms non stop
You should just be able to see everyone's pings in the lobby before it starts and decide if you want to play then.
It's the most obvious solution and entirely doable by BHVR, but I can only imagine that there's profit in it so they won't do it and don't care otherwise.
I fully agree with this. They won’t do it because the people who have unfair ping advantage (either because they are far away from a server or abusing VPN) would be constantly dodged and then wouldn’t play they game anymore and thus also wouldn’t spend money on the game. It’s all about $ and BHVR does not care if it’s creating a bad/unfair experience for the majority of players who aren’t playing with super high ping.
Yeah your right. 100% harsh. your saying if you can't afford the hardware despite having good enough to play the game you can't play with us.
This game isn't that serious. if you have a bit of a rough game because of ping issues 1/20 then whats the big deal. if it bothers you that much then go next and move on. Realisticly your not playing against people high enough ping to make a difference often enough to care surely. As i said before if you are going against people that often with that high ping then firstly i would say record the evidence and secondly maybe your connecting to the wrong server and thats the issue
Okay then make it so if your ping is above 200 you are 20% hindered and can't use your M2.
If the game isn't that serious then surely people who are lagging wouldn't mind being unable to win most of their games.
I don't understand why were trying to remove people from the community who are just trying to play the game. God forbid you have bad internet or don't live in the server rooms. If anything people should be annoyed at the way the game is coded, plus I'm sure it will be fixed with the upcoming recode. Right..?
Yeah its interesting to read people wanting this. Then if this would be implemented and then they get bad interenet or issues and could not play they would be complaining about that. It already is happening with people who have connection issues blaming the servers of the problem when more likely its something going on between their connection to the server than anything the server is doing. Not to mention the several people who come here claiming they did not cheat after they got banned. It can't be me it has to be something else.
People having a good connection now does not mean that connection is good all the time or forever.
Because they are ruining the game for a lot of other people, that’s why. I don’t understand why some here are OK with a few people with bad connections making the game experience terrible for everyone else. This wouldn’t be an issue if the person with the bad connection was punished - let them play the game if they want then - but that’s not the case in DbD. People with bad connections often get a competitive advantage from it.
