Why The Black Banquet was a good thing

I know I've been in the vocal minority championing the event but it did several things that were good for the game, things that people have been asking for:

It changed the gameplay loop.

I have a lot of killer matches where survivors just sit on gens with Stake Out and Hyperfocus then pre-run when they see me coming. It's not exactly thrilling. This event had survivors in my face all match, pretty much every match. I had one match with probably the most M1s I've ever landed in one go. Some people don't like those aggressive plays, and it took me a couple days to stop being fustrated and adjust my own gameplay to it, but I realized I really like how much more interactive this was. The only variant that was anti-interactive was the portal one.

It gave survivors the secondary objective players keep asking for, and one they actually wanted to interact with.

Other events often have little encouragement to interact with the event elements aside from Quests. The Void during Halloween can be a death trap and the crystals often aren't worth the trouble. The haunts aren't amazing either. The winter event has some fun snowball fights but is otherwise fairly bland. Chaos Shuffle just does what it does. There's not really any choices to be made there, especially with many people not being living dbd encyclopedias and not knowing what their randomly assigned perks even do. But the banquet actually had survivors engaging with its elements more than I've ever seen, which shows that if the elements feel valuable or interesting enough, players will use them.

And it's something people keep asking for, yet many didn't like it. A secondary objective shouldn't necessarily be passive and boring, with survivors just gathering generator parts or something similar. A rewarding and interesting element allows survivors to want to do it, instead of feeling obligated. And these little buffs from morsels were not hard to play around once killers learned them, so using them right could be game changing, and using them wrong could get them killed.

It got people to play different killers.

The problem with this part is people were choosing killers who cheesed well with the poison. But the idea is good. If an event can make low and mid tier killers—or even just less popular strong ones—more played, that's a good thing. I haven't played anyone but my main for months now but I didn't like how he was in the event so I went back to a couple killers I hadn't played in awhile. It forced me to shake it up, in a good way.

How it could change:

My only real complaint is that posion is all killers got. Poison was obviously very strong but not very interesting. If I were to change it, I'd add something else for chase and have the poison be used only on objects, making it more of a randomized surprise or strategic trap-like element instead of an I-win-this-chase button. I'd also like the global effect (the table setting) to be a little harder to achieve, or to have a cooldown. Most of us who've been playing awhile have gone against cheaters who remote heal teammates. The constant table heals in chase feel like that and that's not really what anyone wants to be reminded of. Such a powerful effect could use some toning down, and maybe a downside. Maybe injuring the person who puts down the last plate and making them temporarily broken, like a mini invocation, or making them go down after a certain time period, like Conviction.

Comments

  • I have to admit it has been fun figuring out killer builds that counter the event. Beats running the same meta shite perks all the time. Certainly made a change of pace for my killer games.

It has been nice to see ghostface benefit from something for a change.

  • I wanted to like the event, but I got the invisibility way too much, like 3x in a row was enough to make me crash out. I don't think RNG tables are it either if you're gonna create something with love and care you should handcraft that kind of stuff because I had tables literally right next to the cart when I played survivor it just felt cheesy

I agree, it was very refreshing being able to play something new, I also appreciated having counters to more unsavory strategies and gameplay. I'm going to miss the event for sure.

However, when people say they want 'secondary objectives' they really just mean a survivor nerf that allows them to secure more kills when tunneling/camping. It has nothing to do with bettering the survivor experience by giving a high-risk high-reward bonus goal.

this isn't necessarily true because some of us enjoy having shiny things dangled in front of us; I enjoyed Sadako 2, I spend half my games faffing about on Animatronic doors and Pinheads my favourite killer in the game....some of us enjoy a break from chases and gens

  • Imo the event it self definitely fell flat but its probably the most ambitious theyve ever been with the effects and that I can give them credit for, even if they were a little overtuned. The main issue I had with the event is killers not having nearly as many interesting things to work with than survivors

I'm hopeful killer will get more next year if the event returns, without it being as obnoxious as remote pallet breaks and remote hooking. Since it's different dishes, it'd be great to have totally different ideas each year.

This event has made me realize killers have no idea what they want. There are constant complaints about stealth, prerunning, and gen jockeying being uninteracrtive, but then there are complaints about survivors not being afraid of killers and about sabo squads or Head On players. There's pretty much nothing left if you don't like any of that. There's no version of this game where survivors don't do gens and just get chased until they die every match.

Which is great, but how does that work in regards to winning the game?

You can argue that playing for fun > playing to win, but do the other people on your team consent to this?

This is why BHVR needs to be more clear about the goal of the game, if its going to be a free for all, then allow people to escape by themselves similar to TCM. If it's a team game, then stop introducing contradictory playstyles and interactions.

I would love to be able to do things aside from gens and chases, but that would mean screwing over my team or being forced to play with a four-stack every game.

Tbh, I am guilty of harping on this, but the reason is that its not the same person saying both.

That being said, a lot of the proposed survivor changes here are literally just nerfs dressed up for social points, especially if its the name of 'low-tier killers.'

Killers should also have to do something to get their effects. I rarely escaped event mode because it destroyed survivor efficiency while killers just got an extra chase power for free.

  • There has been very few, if any, events players haven't complained and riot over. Only in retrospect does any event get praise.

  • I feel the same way. In general i enjoyed the event and I'd be happy to see more iterations of it in future. My only criticism the whole time was literally that all killer got was poison. It was strong, it was effective, but it felt far less interactive than what the other role had to play with. A killer bot could have done the same lol it felt kind of like that meme of Squidward watching through his blinds as Patrick and Spongebob are having a blast 🤣

I don't know if this was just poor wording but I really don't think that's always the case. Most of the time it's actually for the survivor experience, so that they're doing something more interesting than just sitting on generators.

Be that four generators and three blood generators forcing two different ways to progress the objective, or an uber buff for the time commitment like Black Banquet.

Gonna be real, the random thowing in of tunneling/camping makes this feel kinda bad faith.

Forcing an alternate objective for survivors that doesnt provide any benefits is a killer sided change.

I can almost guarantee you the killers asking for these changes would not want a reward similar to the event we just got, but the banquet would be a good example of how BHVR should implement it.

I think you've gotten yourself lost in the weeds of tribalism on this one. I don't think even the killerest of killer mains necessarily have a hidden agenda to screw over all the survivor players with everything they say. You know making generalised statements like this invites argument right?

I'd agree the Black Banquet is a good base for how an alternative objective should work, if it doesn't directly progress the survivor goal, however it's definitely a very rough first draft and I wouldn't want that to be unchanged next time around.

It has nothing to do with tribalism, the involved simply aren't subtle with their intent and I am commenting on what's observed.

The event will be drastically different the next time it comes around. Especially since we will be close to the visual update at the time assuming no delays. In fact, I would imagine that next year's event will be the visual update.

If you say so. I just see you throwing barbs out unnecessarily, dude.

I would hope so. While I think it has the right idea in terms of making sure the buffs are strong, I feel the balance of this one was all over the place on both sides. The poison was universally horrible to get hit by and a well timed table could auto-lose a close game. Neither were particularly well liked. I had fun in the event but only because I kept being caught up in the dumbest interactions.

Maybe remove starting morsels, remove thrown poison, and make the killer get incrimental buffs depending on how poisoned the full set table was. Like if 2 of the 4 plates placed on it were from a poisoned cart, then the killer gets a small buff, 3 a medium buff and 4 a buff that roughly mirrors the strength of the survivor buff.

The only worry I have is if an event objective becomes too evenly beneficial to both sides, it'll just become another round of ignoring it entirely in favour of slamming/patrolling gens.

  • They announced before the 9th anniversary that it was the last Masquerade so they've had a long time to work on the Black Banquet. They generated insane hype for the 10th anniversary. They underdelivered.

I don't see the points made in the OP as anything new.

All events change the gameplay loop in some fashion. I wouldn't call the Banquet tables a second objective at all since it was entirely optional. Many players completely ignored them and just used the morsels, unless a cart was right next to a table in which case it got abused. Carts were abundant enough that survivors didn't have to go out of their way very much to grab a morsel.

It got players to play different killers in a negative way. If you didn't select killers who could play well around event elements such as the unbreakable pallets, you got punished. It basically cut off the bottom half of the killer tier list with a few exceptions.

The event was poorly decorated. Aside from the bright red the event's color palette failed to stand out. Hooks and lockers had bland, easy-to-miss decorations. Barrels were undecorated and extinguished. Were the gates even decorated? Certain maps had some interestingly decorated central areas and some maps could spawn the Banquet Tile, but it was all just the same tables, chairs, bottles of Bububbles and stacks of dirty dishes copied and pasted over and over. Compared to the unmissable garish blue and silver decorations of the Masquerade and the spinning figurines it had, the Banquet is entirely forgettable visually. This goes for the event cosmetics as well.

The bloodpoints scored for doing the event were pathetic. Only completing a Banquet Payoff scored 2500 and every other score was 200-300 and many of those had limits, you could only score for eating dessert 8 or 10 times. On top of that, the small amount of event points you did score wasn't multiplied by Tortes and other multipliers.

This event is a good thing for BHVR because it lowers the expectations of all the newer players that joined with Jason's chapter. These newer players are being conditioned to expect less. How dare those of us who remember better times have high expectations.

Yeah this is the impression I get too, like I'd rather survivors interact with me as a killer, it makes the game so much more hillarious and goofy, I love it when altruism attempts mess up and I watched it all crash and burn as killer LMAO

This is the exact same thing people say about 1v4 constantly. It's always going to be that way with so many killer kits and so much power creep, this just had a different balance shift from the normal self imposed limitations.

I sure don't have your memory of other events being great. Most of them people just play like normal. At least the banquet had players constantly engaging with the event elements. This one had more going on than any of the previous ones with three distinct versions and the way they designed the dishes means it'll probably change every time, which would be very refreshing.

I played a few days before the event start and was excited to see what the event was but as soon as the event came it was painfully boring to me.

Since the Jason addition and initial queue times being super long, it's killed a lot of enjoyment which I had on returning to dbd.

I'm glad people enjoyed the black banquet event, it's far from my thing personally...it just seemed like added confusing and temporary mechanics that no-one really knows about so you end up looking for invisible survivors and thinking we're going crazy because we can hear them right by us😅

I took a break after returning to dbd after playing the event for the first day and I'm probably returning to play dbd some more soon, getting some Dracula matches which I really like playing as.

I think the dev comments on the load up screen before each match is really immersion breaking 🤣🙃 there's not even enough time to read the comments which makes me just think it would be way more helpful to have a brief explanation or image that's unmissable of how the event works instead of having to go out our way to read somewhere.

I remember in game events being something that were exciting to get into but for whatever reason it's been a reason why I've stayed away from dbd. I feel like I'm being harsh but at the same time maybe others feel the same.

  • Omg the unbreakable pallets...no wonder I stopped playing day 1 event day🤣🤣🤣 completely forgot about that until you triggered my PTSD.

*Meant to reply to for the entity

  • Like usually happens, I missed most of the anniversary because of busyness, but I did get to play a good number of games toward the end.

I do like that they tried out new things. This is something else people encourage them - go ahead, try crazy stuff, experiment, but then BHVR gets backlash when its not perfect. Honestly I hope they keep events like this where they take big swings at ideas - 1v4 is still there, and when they hit on a good idea they can replicate it.

As for the event itself - I feel like the killer getting something that more directly countered what the survivors where doing via the food and/or more information about the survivor progress would have helped.

  • Worst event so far just the right one that pressed one side to sweat to have chance to win and other naturaly sweated too then any other event we had so far.

Effects were nice idea but the exetution and how ridicilous some table and cart spawns were so just one survivor could put donw a table in less than a minute and how some effects were broken so only killers that could match it were just ones that instadown, deep wound or cause broken effect like bubba, billy, mayers, legion, plague just showed how "well done" this event was.

    381210_44.jpg

Heres another proof how some tables were busted and if just you got swf and played killer who couldnt deal with certain effects like bubba with ubreakable pallets then it was gg.

Nothing personal behind it, I call it as I see it, a lot of proposed survivor changes here are so vastly out of touch I just assume they're disguised killer buffs.

Varying killer buffs would be a hard thing to sell since not all killers are equal like survivors, on some killer the poison was egregiously strong for example, so I think we'd just end up with a massive RNG fest which probably would be complained about.

I think the killer buffs should just be smaller QOL things such as faster kicks, faster pick up etc, but make them ramp up the more objectives they complete.

Killers just want something that doesn't shih on them. This event is so survivor sided killers dont want to play it, hence why the ques are so fast. In this entire event we get to poison the survivor for one health state that gets full countered by champion of light and fixated and survivors get way too many things to keep track of. Mind you, you can't even use your poison on objects because you only get max 4 on a slow ass recharge timer. Like why does my event power take a minute to charge will in that mainute survivor can set up a table that can be worth 4 heals. Killers have ben getting nerfed every update with stronger survivors perks, basekit buffs, and changes that just make them overall stronger than the killer. Meanwhile, killer perks keep getting nerfs, pallet denisty makes every chase longer than it should be, it makes good plays worth nothing when there are pallets 5 ft away from each other with nothing remotely close to a dead zone anywhere on the map, regression limits, anticamp, no more hook grabs, basekit BT and haste, and all of that is basekit for survivors now dont even have a bring a perk for any of that. The introduction of shoulder the burden and other strong survivor perks such as duty of care, deliverance, DS, and eventually more and more strong perks while the best killer perk we've gotten in a while are hive mind and turn back the clock.

Worst event so far just the right one that pressed one side to sweat to have chance to win and other naturaly sweated too then any other event we had so far.

Effects were nice idea but the exetution and how ridicilous some table and cart spawns were so just one survivor could put donw a table in less than a minute and how some effects were broken so only killers that could match it were just ones that instadown, deep wound or cause broken effect like bubba, billy, mayers, legion, plague just showed how "well done" this event was.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/WUWCMR6T7PCJ/381210-44.jpg

Heres another proof how some tables were busted and if just you got swf and played killer who couldnt deal with certain effects like bubba with ubreakable pallets then it was gg.

Killers just needed to do what they're always telling survivors to do—adapt. I didn't play any of the killers you mentioned and ended the event with a 75% KR on Clown and an 80% on Dracula, and i barely even used the poison. These effects were very manageable and often easy to exploit if you took time to think about it. If people are hiding in loops with unbreakable pallets or running at you with invincibility then they aren't doing gens. All the toys in the world won't win them the match if that one thing doesn't get the focus.

  • Spinning this event as a good thing is a bit like a your house burning down and trying to see it as an opportunity to redecorate.

People complain all the time about staleness and the boring meta and survivors needing a slowdown objective. Well, here's the shake up—and it's all complaints again. They can't even try a different idea without everyone being mad on day one. Was it perfect? No. But it was a good test for different ideas and was a nice chaotic change with both sides having busted stuff.

Dracula, the lich I had almost all wins too wonder why? Strong killers with many abilities to counter many powers from survivors plus poison makes them very potent yet I bet you had good match with event reduced mmr (in events like this devs many times stated mmr is turned off or totaly loose compare to regular mode).

I played both roles and I know what swf even just single duo could do in that event and killers you mentioned yeah clown is one of best in antiloop since he came what is it 2018 or 2017 so no wonder he can do good when he slows you naturaly with gas and that with poison is even more leathal because compare to cenobite who makes survivor walk thus reducing the poison effectiveness to minimum the clowns hinder even when slows survivor still runs and poison works with that.

Unbreakable loops yeah try normal shack with killer who has no powers that can work there (dracula deffinitely has powers to fight that) or some god loops and even with billy, bubba or mayers you are done there. Invisibility another bs that could be spawn and only fool wouldnt get lost from the chase and killer with it, survivors had many tools and kept them longer and killers only action to fight that was use poison and win chases fast to counter that thats why swfts went to rush because if you rushed fast 4 gens and waste killers time a lot with cakes and table powers you could keep lot of resources when you lost these powers and killer only got chance to have 20 seconds of lightborn or endurence (what a super strong effects).

Any competent team could win games that would normaly loose there but not every killer could do so unless the killer that was used had abilities that could fight the cakes and table powers like henry, nurse against invincibility with unbreakable pallets.

If you didn't select killers who could play well around event elements such as the unbreakable pallets, you got punished.

Low tier killers being weak is a problem in 1v4 and the event just made it even worse. It should not be possible to lock Ghostface near Gideon Meat Plant's basement for an extended period as was possible during the Black Banquet.

You didn't take issue on points about the visual and event bloodpoints, so it seems like you can't defend the Black Banquet being good on those fronts.

You seem to be confusing non-anniversary events with anniversary events. I played during past anniversaries and players, both killers and survivors, were constantly interacting with the Pillars because they either wanted the cosmetics they granted or the ability to use event powers. It is in Haunted by Daylight and Bone Chill where players more often ignored event mechanics.

I'll bring up more points about how past anniversaries were better:

    • Interacting with the game in the match to earn cosmetics. During the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th anniversaries we had to collect crowns/invitations in the matches to get our cosmetics. Granted they gave away all the crowns with a single code later on, but collecting the crowns at the time was a fun challenge. This year most people had all the cosmetics on day 2 and there were zero in game interactions to get them.
    • Event Tomes. The 6th & 7th anniversaries had tomes players had to actually get through to earn the cosmetics and the 8th anniversary was similar but instead you earned trinkets the event currency with which you bought the cosmetics with. Say what you will about the old tome system, but it certainly was more interesting and interactive than the quest system we have now where you can ignore it completely and still get everything.
    • The Bag of Tryks mechanic was something I rather enjoyed in 8th and 9th anniversaries, the chaos was much better than the survivor controlled mechanic of the Black Banquet.
    • During the 8th and 9th anniversaries killers actually had to collect invitations from Masquerade Pillars to use their event abilities rather than just passively gaining poison.
    • Love her or hate her, we got the mascot Tryks during the 8th and 9th anniversaries.

It's hard for me to look at the Black Banquet and think it was good. It was meh, especially for how hard it was hyped.

What do past events have to do with anything? The comment you are responding to didn’t say anything about the event being bad because it was survivor sided. You’re simply assuming that to try to turn it into an “us vs them” argument.

Points and visuals have nothing to do with gameplay. I don't really care if the exit gate has garland or the basement has Christmas trees. I have nothing to say about it because I don't care about it. You brought it up because you care.

I'm comparing it to all events. Yes people interacted with the invitations. It was pretty easy to do so unlike, say, making a void crystal. But I can't say I saw a lot of people singing the praises of the masquerade either. Of course now they will, because it's gone.

Cosmetics have been given through event progress for awhile. In-game acquiring hasn't happened in the masquerade for years, and it's still irrelevant to gameplay. We still got two cosmetics related to the event and two that were just dropped in our inboxes. It seems like you just don't like that the game has changed some things like tomes which is fine, but it's still irrelevant to gameplay.

The only point you really have is that killers got their ability by interacting instead of passively gaining and yes, that should change for next time.

It wasn't a bunch of low MMR babies in my lobbies. These were the sweatiest three weeks of matches I've ever played.

So you didn't mention Clown, whose generally considered low tier, in your cheese list but now he's suddenly strong. I only ever used the poison on items anyway. I played normal.

People did the thing where they made shack impenetrable to me too. You know what I did? Left. Get rid of the table setter and your problems are solved. You just have to think. • I disagree on a few points

"It got killers to swap up who they played"

This is bad. Can you imagine an inverse event where all insta downs turned into single health state detractors just for the fun of the event? Billy/buba/certain perk users just get to "lose" just cause. How is this a pro or a good benefit unless you hate typical meta picks and loved seeing more bubba/billy/plague vs ghouls.

"It gave survivors a secondary objective"

That was obnoxiously broken, sure. We can play this same game on the inverse side. What if we made it so if you hook a survivor that is not the last survvior that has been hooked the gen with the most progress regresses to 0%. sounds like we just fixed tunneling ya, or is it a blatantly broken effect? Much like the banquets effects.

I mean yeah, I'd rather see those killers over endless Ghouls or Jasons. A little lot of people seem to feel the same. That's not a far comparsion in any way though. This is a mode where some killers were stronger and others were weaker. Your instadown example just randomly has a group of killers getting weaker without the counter of some getting stronger.

Broken but interactive, and potentially game throwing if overly focused on or used poorly. I won the vast majority of my killer matches. The ones I lost were ones where people just sat on gens and maybe jumped into a portal if they saw me coming. Do you think survivors want a extra task that's boring and useless? Do you think they want to cleanse more hex totems? This gave them the option of using something potentially powerful (if used right) or just sitting on gens.

I'm not sure what super strong killers were nerfed in the event? Some less common ones just went harder than normal. I'm also not sure why you're approaching the event as though it was a killer nerf event. Survivors had more, but poison was super strong, and unlike very loud invisibilty and easy to ignore invincibility, it wasn't counterable if they got poisoned in the open.

I'm pretty on the record being anti exhaustion and anti Vigil so I'm afraid that gotcha particular isn't gonna work. I couldn't care less if they deleted those perks from the game and I'd very much like a perkless mode.

You can believe what you want. I have 1000s of matches in killer. It's currently my preferred role. But pick one though. Do I not play killer, or were they not at my skill level? They were aggressive and I was aggressive back, far more than usual, and that made me win more than I do in 1v4 where survivors sit on gens until they can prerun me with Sprint Burst.

I feel like most non insta down killers were "nerfed" for a variety of reasons. Bubba throwing poison onto a survivor and backrevving into an insta down did not care at alll about the survivors health state nor table state in the event. Howeer if you were playing say ghostface or trapper, even with throwing poison onto a survivor, there was a massive differennce in that you chasing a survivor who got insta healed mid chase could not be overcome by anything you (the killer) did.

You're using the 2 most stereotypical scapegoat "weak" killers in the game as examples. They're used to talk about how weak killers are in 1v4 too, even though it's always just those two and maybe Pig that seem to be the problem.

And Ghostface is an instadown killer. Poison should theoretically go hard on him. Mark, poison, free down.

By meta killers do you mean 3/4s of the roster? Most are fine. Some need work.

You can play whatever killer you want but using the lowest on the scale is disingenuous to the overall conversation. "What about Trapper" has become a joke. You're free to play them, and plenty of people do very well on them, but don't act like there's a whole game problem because of Skull Merchant or something.

I'm not sure why you keep talking to me about survivor stuff that has nothing to do with this. And not everyone has some catalog of friends they can play with at any moment. You can, however, pick whatever killer you like at any time.

Fine, if all you care about is gameplay then I'll tear that down too.

You call these effects "trying something new" but really the invincibility and speed boost morsels are just rehashed old Dead Hard but harder to time and the counterplay as killer was the same as old Dead Hard, wait it out. The whole team heals existed in the last 2 Masquerades but the survivors had less control over it and they got exposed when it happened. Portals are certainly not new. Invisibility was new but that got old fast as survivors used it to pre-run ending chases before they even began or they used it close and then killers could follow with their ears. Replacing generators with Banquet tables is new but we could see that was a bad idea with all the tight generators groupings we saw. The Banquet Tile was weaker than every tile it replaced and was boring with a single pallet.

Just because cosmetics have been given out this way for a while doesn't make it any more acceptable. In fact it makes it even more stale.

Sure, people weren't singing the praises of the Masquerade but it certainly didn't get the backlash the Black Banquet got, in any of its 4 years. It seemed to me like every DbD content creator on Youtube made a negative video about the Black Banquet and they weren't just griping about cakes. In fact I can't recall any non-anniversary events experiencing anywhere close to the same backlash either.

I wish I could have found joy in the Black Banquet like you did.

It wasn't a bunch of low MMR babies in my lobbies. These were the sweatiest three weeks of matches I've ever played.

Then is sus you won it without poison because without it survivors have another strong perk (cake effect) plus global effect from table and good teams that would drag you normaly or you barely draw or win would make you in black baquete loose if you didnt use poison (which is what you claim).

So you didn't mention Clown, whose generally considered low tier, in your cheese list but now he's suddenly strong. I only ever used the poison on items anyway. I played normal.

Oh clown isnt that strong in many things but in chase he is beast just almost every top survivor will tell you (the comp ones) that lasting long against clown in chase is very hard because his antiloop is very good he just sucks in parts like mobility or slowdown (unless his chases are very fast but thats thing for all killers) but in antiloop clown is better than jason or springtrap especialy with addons and slap poison from event into it and survivors will be toucheable even on some loops with unbreakable pallets that would make other killers loose them there like jungle gyms due to his bottles he can still play them.

People did the thing where they made shack impenetrable to me too. You know what I did? Left. Get rid of the table setter and your problems are solved. You just have to think. The invisibility was very loud. It was easy to injure or down people while they were using it. The invincibility was easy to wait out. Most of these things were pretty mid and overstressed by killers.

And what you can do against loop thats infinite for 1 minute without power that ignores loops or has some range hit potencial? All you can do is leave it unless the pallet times is near its end but good swf can have second table ready.

Rid of table setter? I´t can be any survivor and others will do what gens so your preasure ends there unless you tunnel him out fast and dont forget some powers from cakes are way too strong to hold survivors long in game alone without table, table can be set just with one survivor and all can do it so not that great of a advice just more like casual advice but every team is different.

Invisibility is loud and that covers footsteps from that cake not toi mention chase music can start even when survivor is already invisiable which makes tracking super hardcore so not much of a great advice again just works well on people which have volume high and good set of heaphones.

Easiest to outplay was invicibility due to many killer powers penetrating it like jasons m2. Dash cake could be again outplayed by dash killers it was jsut bit stronger distance gain like from OG Dead hard. Invisibility was strongest and hardest to deal with mainly due to how sounds in DBD are inconsistent and on some maps survivors footsteps are super quiete or on some survivors.

Any competent team can win? Then what does competence look like when I won almost all my killer matches against very aggressive and coordinated players at the same general matchmaking level as me?

Well then you used all things well or they werent so competent, I had multiple strong teams that beat me so hard I couldnt do anything or games where I win on 5-4 gens (which were most because I thinked and used killers that worked well with what event gave to the killers).

As I said teams that you barely draw normaly or beat just nearly would destroy you there in black banquete unless yo uused poison to its max effectiveness and get fast chases and many downs from the start which is where killer in that event was strongest kinda becuase survivors had better effects in endgame and kept cakes till endgame (one) but een that was solid game changer like some impossible saves became possible just because of one invis cake etc.

Worst event ever just sweat against sweat nothing unique about it.

    Ghostface is good????

YOu seem to forget he doesnt get instadown on a whim like mayers, bubba, billy but he must get full stalk and then its just timed so things like vigil clears it plus ghostface in chase is bum not to mention he is the most weakest killer against swf or coordinated surviors because survivors control his power or can easily.

Hens made videa about worst 3 ghostface, trapper, merchant I get it was kinda comp settings but guess who lost the most and was biggest bum in there…… Ghostface wonder why (I already wrote it above).

Ghostfaces all power is hope that he can be unpredictiable and get fast downs by surprise which is something swf in any formation can totaly counter (even duo) and even solo can have one guy to run behind him and reveal him and force chase or him being m1.

Ghostface reveal is 3 seconds and you need to stare at him like 70% from that 3 seconds and its super bugged in survivor favor while he needs to stalk you for longer 4,5 seconds or lean but he looses lot of distace and still its just instadown but against invisibility, invincibility, speed boost, unbreakable pallets chances for ghostface to get down with poison instadown in chase are thinner then you think, very bad of a expectation from this killer to do well in black banquete even trapper would do better because he can atleast shut down the loops and trap objects.

  • All told, I actually quite enjoyed the event. It was one of the better ones in recent times for me. I even grew to enjoy the poison bottles as I learned how to use them. The main negative for me really was the lack of fun things for the Killer side to play around with. I don't want anything nerfed on the Survivor side but I do hope they come up with some more powers for Killers next year. I don't know why BHVR can't make an event that is equally fun for both sides, it always has to skew one way or the other it seems.

Ghostface was plenty good in the event, I didn't play him a ton but I did play a few matches with him and won them all. Marking a survivor, having them try to go invisible to try and get away, and me downing them anyway was so funny. This included one match against a coordinated three stack as well.

Hens showcase proved how well most of these killers can do against even a coordinated team, the killers didn't win most matches but they did perfectly fine and got plenty of hooks even on the maps picked specifically to make the killers look weak. Most of those matches also restricted the killers to low tier add-ons meaning ghostface couldn't run drop leg or drivers license and Trapper couldn't run either of his iri add-ons or honing stone, trapper in particular with and without those add-ons is night and day strength level.

On the ghostface matches in particular, I have never watched Stalkedd before but he knew he was going into Lery's and then proceeded to never stalk survivors. I assume he is a decent ghostface but it feels like he went in with the intention of trolling the showcase or trying to make ghostface out to be weak. Ghostface needs some buffs but he isn't as weak as he is made out to be by many.

The invincibility, invisibility, and speed boost last literal moments, you can easily wait them all out. I am not saying they had no effect on matches but far less than its made out to be. The poison had a much more dramatic effect on my matches, the only thing truly rivaling the poison is the full table effects and those take time to setup (rng dependent), if the survivors just tried using the morsels they lose to poison usage it was that strong.

Overall, I also quite enjoyed the event. The portals made me lose my mind in some matches (and there was a night I got four camembert in a row) but overall I enjoyed the changes and different gameplay they encouraged. I think the poison needs a change so the killer has more to interact with and preferably something different per course like the survivors or perhaps a separate set of courses altogether for killer and each match would mix and match them. I think it was a great first draft of an event and fully expect it will get better and more fleshed out in the coming years.

I disagree on a few points

Except that's not a new objective. Hooking survivors is the killer's objective - your comparison would be like if an event rewarded survivors more for partnering up on gens instead of giving them something else to spend their time on.

A new objective for killer would be something totally new, like collect cakes and take them to a designated tray to reset a a gen to zero. Would it be a good idea? It's not a bad idea, it would depend on implementation.

I feel like we are stuck in a circle at tis point.

""only meta killers" = "obnoxius killers" = "complained about killers" = "buffs" = "cycle repeats".

If the idea is "bad killers" can't complain about being bad, than surely the same can be extended to survivors ya? If you aren't running a strong survivor loadout or speaking with buddies on coms you lose the right to complain. Just like the example above. "why are you playing trapper/ghostfacee when they are so bad".

But if survivors run an awful build that is the first thing that gets pointed out. If a survivor was running Invocation builds and they complained about losing, the first thing people would tell them to do is stop running Invocation builds.

As for SWFs - you're comparing someone having to organize a group, practice with them, seek out players who they fit best with - to which of the killers a player chooses to select on the screen.

Ghostface is bad very bad, in hens vid he went against team that uses coms and calls things out which is main counter against ghostface or stealth killer thats main power comes from surprising his victim and getting very fast down and thats soper hardcore in comps settings compare to normal match with soloq or one duo but that doesnt change the fact that ghostface is very bad and nees serious buffs not just fraction of his brown addons into basekit as he got lately.
