If the game is so survivor sided, why is killer queue times so long?

I remember 2021-2022 dbd and survivor queue times were similar to killer queue times(1m),today survivor is almost instant, killer is 4-5m minimum.

It's just the usual people getting really upset and coming on here to vent that they dont understand the mode.

I think, as usual, it’s very killer dependent. I just had a Ghoul who was using the portals and his ability to basically poison the altars and patrol gens endlessly. We got one gen done and he got a 4k. We did get a fair few complete tables though so maybe we would have done better if everyone was on gens but it goes to show how much time the event wasted from the main objective which is an advantage for killers.

if no one is on gens and people are dying like flies then yeah because you have no gen pressure, but a table can also completely remove the killers pressure by healing THE ENTIRE TEAM and extending their crucial chases.

You have to strike a balance between event objectives and gens just like killer does if they want to stop you taking advantage of it.

Only good on intadown killers like bubba, billy, mayers or top mobility ones that can catch up like ghoul, blight.

For m1 its not that great especialy when survivors can globaly heal one health state.

  • Because forums and other places like Reddit, X, etc., represent only a small portion of the actual player base, most people are probably playing the game and having fun. Not everyone plays for hours every day as if it’s their job—many also play other games. Those who are complaining most likely play the game too much, and anything added that they don’t like will upset them and push them past the breaking point, as they’re already burnt out and probably just need to take a break.

I remember 2018 queues when killers were instant and survivors were 2-3 mins. I remember the 2020+ queues after COH nerf that left killer with longer queues and it hasn't gotten better.

The easy answer is it requires 4 survivors per 1 killer, so even if there is 70 survivors to 30 killers there will be wait times because theres "not enough survivors" even though they over double the amount of killers.

The other answer is soloqueue is a coinflip whether you get decent survivors or new players and that can really hamper your fun as survivor, and since 41% of the survivor base play soloqueue half of them are bound to suffer (this is by recent stats). And people have shifted to swf because of how annoying soloqueue can be. So even if there is 3 times the amount of survivors as killers, thats not enough and will have substantial wait times.

  • Killer queue times are shorter in the mornings due to the fact that most people have work so its harder to get your friends on the game. However at around 7-8pm for me killer queue times drop to 0-2m from the previous 5-8m earlier in the day. (this is why I play at night now)

  • Queue times have had a long-standing pattern, at least in my region (US Midwest). Killer queues are long and survivor queues instant during the day when there are fewer survivor players because most people can’t get together for SWF and it flips during the evening when more people are playing together with friends. So the queue times for either side don’t prove anything about whether the game is killer-sided or survivor-sided.

I will say that since Jason was released, the killer queue times have been much longer than usual. It’s a combination of lots of people wanting to play Jason because he’s kind of busted and survivors not wanting to play because literally every game is against Jason and the survivor gameplay against Jason is super boring and uninteractive.

  • Earlier my killer que time was 2 seconds. I guess it evened out over time.

  • Because BHVR keeps making the same mistake that the community does.

They need people to play survivor, and they think that survivors think winning is fun. This is the same trap the community falls into when they say survivors only like playing vs low tiers, while ignoring survivors hate a lot of mid-low tiers, like Clown, Hag, Trickster, Legion, Skull Merchant. Meanwhile there's mid to high tiers that people generally like, like Hillbilly, Wesker, Dracula.

Survivors like having agency in a chase, they like being able to predict and counter what the killer is doing, they like being able to utilize multiple forms of gameplay styles from aggressive looping to stealth.

Why can't we get people to play survivor 2v8? Because getting pincered isn't fun. You can't survive that except through dumb luck. You can make survivor the most OP thing ever and people would still rather play killer because as killer is always fun. It can be VERY frustrating due to horrible maps and other gameplay mechanics, but the act of playing the role and all the various killers is fun, survivors only have fun if the killer is one that lets them express their game knowledge and prediction skills instead of limiting their options in chase like a Clown bottle or something.

The pallet density update was this personified. Made killer more miserable to play and required them to make killers with absurd mechanics like Ghoul, new Myers, and Krasue in order to keep up, didn't actually make survivor more fun to play because the new killers are frustrating to play against.

Black Banquet? Let's give survivor some of the most egregious BS this game has ever seen. But then killers get a poison vial that's a Clown bottle and it no longer matters how survivor-sided the event is, nobody likes being snared to walking speed.

Killer queue time is instant for me dunno what to tell you. From my games yes the event is geared towards survivors but the important thing is it's its just not fun for killer. Poison is the only thing we get. I don't care how unbalanced the gameplay is all I want is something fun to do as killer more than just throw a bottle every now and then. Event games as killer is just clown normal game with less going on lol

  • Long where? If you mean main queue it's because all the survivors are in the event queue and not a lot of killers playing the event.

  • I don't know where you people are playing from but my queue times from 2020-2022 as survivor were up to 10 minutes once the sun set on NA East.

dbd has improved dramatically the past few years.

  • Queue times are incredibly time of day dependent for me personally. In the evening I get instant killer queues but have to queue about 5 minutes for survivor and in the morning killer queue takes like 15 minutes while survivor is instant. But I've been playing since 2019 and it always was this way so I dont think killer queues dramatically changed over the years unless there are events.

  • Because as much as killers complain, you don't see them actually SWITCHING to play the "better" role, even when there's a queue bonus! That's all you need to hear.

  • my queue times during the event has not been longer than 30 seconds, heck the majority of it has been around 4 - 11 seconds. Im on na east. Now if we’re talking regular none event ya the queue times are long.

  • could also mean most are playing survivor why killers wait time is long too.

  • Queue times are different depending on the time of the day. It's always been this way. Try playing on evening and you'll immediately see the difference.

Pallet density came AFTER years of bs powercreep in new/reworked killers, not before.

It also followed years where we were repeatedly told by killers that we couldn't:

    1. Balance massively overperforming killers that outclass the rest of the roster
    2. Add any guardrails to prevent the match being forced into an unwinnable 3v1 asap
    3. Have a functioning matchmaking system that consistently puts winstreak streamers against teams that have a chance to compete

Also, there's nothing fun or agency-giving about playing survivor and being chased in a deadzone. Like literally nothing. And same as killer. I never think to myself "wow I really outplayed this person" as they get to decide between looping 2 barrels or a tree.

Funny that. All those people who always simultaneously say:

"I play the most optimal to win."
    "I play both sides."

Never seem to have an iota of interest in playing survivor despite their nonstop complaints about every single little thing survivors may get that is even perceived as being the slightest bit useful.

  • Because killers are ok with playing even insanely surv sided base game? This never was about balance, killer is just naturally far more interesting role.

I used to play swf surv and every killer thst isn't nurse or insanely skilled hillbilly(it was long ago, pre-rework Billy and no blight) gets bullied so hard with no diff. Really fun at first but then its just boring so I swapped to killers forever despite all balance issues.

The reason is survivors leave games faster then killer. As well you need 4 killers to every one killer. When I take a survivor out of a match thats one more survivor added to the pool of 4 needed for a killer match while if you won or lose on killer noth8ng in the pools math changes. Thus is just how it will work and I have seen the killer side down the second long queue times while survivors queue is minutes long so I think you also need to look at what server your playing on.

Most streamers I watch that play killer mostly are mainly playing survivors so I dont know where this mind set is coming from

It's funny, because i follow a number of both killer and survivor mains on Twitch and everyone has seemingly switched to the other side. Typical survivor mains just playing killer and typical killer mains playing survivor. I actually think it's a good thing.

Getting chased into a deadzone before pallet density only happened if your allies recklessly threw every pallet instead of trying to conserve them.

Something which used to be a bad play but now doesn't matter that much.

  • I’ve been playing since 2018, and on the Asia server, Survivor queue times are usually long, whereas Killer queues are instant—except, of course, during times like the week a new Killer is released or when The Clown is bugged.

  • Because the complaints are empty. You'll see the same people moan about how strong survivor is over and over, then they post their stats that are way over the 60% goal. I can only assume they do it because they think if they complain enough as a mass they'll get even more and—when CCs are on board—it tends to work.

  • They just got a massive IP that makes everyone want to play killer. On top of that, the game isn't survivor sided, it's SWF sided. Even with all of the anniversary buffs, I can beat solos pretty easily, but I can't beat a SWF.

  • This content has been removed.
  • The game isn't survivor sided; hope this helps. The longer answer is, Jason came out and everyone wants to play him, another reason is that people who are good in general on killer win most of their games, even killers like Sadako have high kill rates simply because no one knows what to do, and good players are less common, you will just straight up win most of your games if you play to win in pubs. In theory the survivors have WAY more reasons to win but they just don't, hence why BHVR keeps adding thing slike pallet density changes, all these anti tunnels and base kit buffs for survivor and it still almost doesn't matter becasue most players are just, not that good.
