It's Almost Completely Behavior's Fault
DBD was a fun game, unfortunately it is getting close to being beyond repair and that's due to the toxic cycle this game has become, Run Meta or Get Crushed. If you don't slug or tunnel as killer then you get abused by OP survivor perks but if you don't run OP survivor perks then you still get bled out or tunneled. Even after that people STILL complain that their side is harder than the other but it all boils down to the age old statement of "My thing is more difficult than yours". The reality of it is that Behaviour has nurtured their game so poorly they made a community of hateful people who hate pretty much everything and a game that almost nobody finds fun anymore. It's our fault for becoming this way but it's Behaviour's fault for letting it slide.
Comments
i mean.. it’s also Behaviours ‘fault’ that the game exists in the first place
And hateful/toxic communities are kinda just an online gaming thing.. DbD being asymmetrical doesnt help..
The fact that this is your first post gives the impression that its a troll post, but ill play ball.
"run meta or get crushed"- if thats your impression, theres 1 of 3 reasons why it could be. 1) you've ran meta which has inflated your mmr past casual levels to the point you cannot exist playing "casual", 2) your secretly one of the 1% that 40% of this forum thinks they are part of or 3) killers/survivor casual players have been bullied out of the community, so you tend to get a better level of survivor/killer as the casuals get bullied out. Im assuming you believe its the third, but my suggestion is going to be its the first. try resetting your mmr, and playing without it. you might lose a couple games but it should (especially when theres a bunch of players) balance out eventually.
"if you dont slug or tunnel as killer you get abused by OP survivor perks"- see point 1 about resetting mmr, and take losses on the chin. Its sometimes unfun, but eventually you can be a casual gamer like a lot of us are.
"BHVR has nurtured their game poorly"- sadly this is not the case, as its easy to blame the game designers. Asymmetrical horrors have this issue, as do all online multiplayer games that pit people against each other. Toxicity is just a part of game due to its innate 1v4 nature, and theres nothing BHVR could do to completely stomp that out. Now is that to say they couldnt have implemented chat restrictions sooner, no, but they arent to blame for this community.
"nobody finds fun anymore"- theres lots of people who find it fun, thats how the games lasted so long. However, the better you get/play the stronger people you'll be against, and the less "casual" your experience will be.
"its our fault for becoming this way but its behaviour's fault for letting it slide"- im heavily of the opinion that had bhvr implemented half the stuff they have now it would've died off on release. chat restrictions, ip bans and much more moderation might've killed the game from those more toxic/sweaty (who were a majority of the playerbase back then and we are slowly shifting to becoming more friendly to newcomers) . I don't think we'd have made it to this point without those toxic tryhards, who kept the game afloat for years before it became the icon it is now. But yes, they couldve done more, however the blame primarily resides in the players, not BHVR
Except Jason and Kaneki are the epitome of overpowered or P2W. Even strong survivor streamers agree. OP is not trolling, you're just side with killers because you lose plenty. Survivors do not have an insurance policy to survive end game, yet Killers do have an end game strat to get at least 1 kill. But hey lets keep giving killers more abilities and inherent add-ons to get make your lives easier.
I'm not trying to side with one group or the other, but I am saying that nobody should have to wait excessive amounts of time to get perks in the Shrine or feel pressured to pay extra money just to get ahead or play the characters they want. That goes for both sides, not just killer. And while yes, most of the time you can secure at least one kill in endgame, there are definitely times when you simply can’t because of a competent swf or other factors but yeah the whole more abilities thing feels weird to me but the add ons part I don't fully agree with.
(Sry forgot to reply to comment for comments above so I tried to delete it lol)
I run little to no meta on either side and I do fine. You only think there's no other option.
BHVR didn't do this, the CCs and social media did. Some clown posts a video of whining about how strong something is and then the mindless followers of those CCs immediately start parroting it online. The community itself allows toxicity, rivalry, and bias. However, I do think BHVR likes it and uses it as fuel but i don't think it's fully on them. If all you do is play the game (without chat) you have no idea how bad these people are.
I see, hm.
I like to play with perks that I enjoy playing with, but I hardly if ever watch content creators nowadays.
I used to watch Noob3 (my very first person I learned to loop from), along with Probzzz (where I learned different builds) and even picked up his own builds before I stopped watching him due to his in-game behavior to others.
So, I play what I want and hardly if ever run meta (if you call Deja Vu and exhaustion perks meta, sure) but I enjoy doing different builds and I actually believe it can be a detriment to listen to content creators and becoming meta slaves just because someone tells you what to use.
What a content creator or Otz (as people love to bring his perk ratings in) tells people to use, what is "trash", or what is "OP" is what really kills the game for the community.
Not once when I watched Noob3 I would decide to go become a Balanced Landing player and even when I took Probzzz's builds and took inspiration from it, I always catered it to my own playstyle.
Then I switched to watching people on comp, which reinforced me to continue doing different builds just to challenge myself. I then eventually stopped watching comp gameplay as I would get irritated when I saw massive misplays.
Point being, people can tell you what builds to use but it's up to you to decide what works best for you and formulate your own opinion on what you want to play with. I find it odd that people watch how to get good videos and then take these creators at face value to always run meta when what works for them might not work for you.
Just because Probzzz was a massive Dead Hard user, Noob3 with Balanced, Cru5h with Background Player did I ever think I need to play with their exact builds or go basic with Adrenaline, Dead Hard, Windows of Opportunity, and Resilience (as an example). Just run what you want and pick perks that fit your playstyle.
Players demanding changes have also helped form DBD for the better and worse. A lot of changes are from player feedback.
However I think the game is in a good state compared to before there have been so many good changes over the years. The biggest problem is any game gets boring after a few thousand hours and then small things will annoy you even more.
Ahhhh ok, nah thats chill. I can understand after a few rough games having quite a negative opinion especially getting bleed to death it really does hamper your fun in the game. I was just responding to it like most the posts here, apologies if ive been too harsh, after all its ok to feel frustrated after some incredibly harsh games it seems.
And death threats are incredibly OTT no matter how you played, im sorry you had to deal with that and hope your doing ok :)
As someone who has been playing since…I think it was right before PH got released, yes and no.
On one hand - the meta is more varied now than it has been for a while.
On the other and - there will always be a meta.
The big issue is that SWFs exist and offer a stupidly big advantage to survivors, and there's no way to tell going into a match. As a killer the game feels designed to encourage at least soft tunneling or camping, due to how fast gens can fly if the survivors are good and coordinated as well as very heavy regression - but that same anti-sweaty-SWF build and style is going to dominate solos without them having much of a chance.
It's not "almost", it is completely BHVR's fault. Who else would be at fault? They refuse to address issues with the game and purposely balance it into a corner.
It's a 2 way street…you can't say one side or the other is responsible for the state of the game. The game encourages killers to tunnel or camp. The game encourages survivors to gen rush. Well when you really don't have an end game insurance policy as a survivor…I mention this in a couple of my posts, the best policy is gen rushing. I shouldn't have to tell you that gen rushing leads to less people being hooked or having more chances to escape.
YET, THE GAME IS DESIGNED TO GIVE AN OVERWHELMING SUPPORT TO KILLERS TO GET AT LEAST 1 KILL THROUGH CAMPING AT THE END GAME.
Sooooo yeah, you play terrible aaaaallll game, yet you're allowed to camp just 1 last guy and now you have an opportunity to get more. Also, it's pretty easy to get 2 or more after that last guy is hooked and is being camped when the killer is either ranged or can 1 shot you! Survivors are forced to auto concede that last survivor that got hooked for the majority win. THIS HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE TIME UNLESS IT'S AN M1 KILLER.
It's pretty lame and unfair for this last survivor to just take one for the team when he's been doing his respective job to win.
Also complaining about SWF is extremely toxic. You make it sound like survivors are so devious in their ways to work together and take down the killer. Get over yourselves. Most people just play with their friends because of Discord and that rapid intel is a nice to have. Not that they are organizing their perks to work perfectly. That probably happens 1% of the time. OHHH POOR YOU THE KILLER…now you need to make survivors pre-exhausted and be able to 1 shot them. If this sentence alone does not tell you how unfair it is, you're just flat out crazy.
The original sin is that there wasn't a win condition. It was just a playground. Chase the other side, some escape, some don't. Everyone 'wins' by playing and engaging with the mechanics. But there was also a lot of soft pressure to play in a fun way via both the scoreboards and the emblem system. End the match too fast or too efficiently, and you're dinged for it. Losing an emblem or rank didn't mean anything, but people still cared about having the number say that they were at max, and so they tried to keep it there. Plus the BP economy was brutal, so you were even more incentivized to do things for score. There were far more broken items and add-ons, but they were more difficult to get in vast quantities, AND you had to give up your cache to prestige, further keeping the balance economy at least SOMEWHAT in check. There were also perks like BBQ, which was additional soft pressure towards healthy and fun gameplay. Even perks like Pop are an incentive for the killer to physically move away from the hook.
But then BHVR came along, decided that all those things were garbage and stupid. Got rid of them. Introduced a ton of regression and stall perks like Pain Res, Corrupt, Deadlock, etc that just work, period. Guaranteed massive value. And work even better when you camp/tunnel. Declared that nothing matters except getting kills/escaping, there should be minimal if not zero incentives or pressure to do anything but end the game as quickly as possible and provide the opponent minimal chances to do anything, and of ######### course you get the game in the state that it's in.
I don't believe meta matters when it comes to getting crushed; it's going to happen regardless. No amount of meta will save you from 4 Lara's.
It's why I say these past couple years that the meta doesn't matter. Yeah, you can scientifically prove to me that Pain Resonance is one of the more powerful perks in the game but power alone doesn't win dbd matches....it's windows of Opportunity (and not the perk!) and capitalizing on them when they present themselves. Seeing as how you can face different perks every game, these windows are RNG. But they are there. There's tons of crap perks in dbd, they fail because of Opportunity cost with 4 slots. However, in any given match there could be moments where these lame perks could have been game changing, like a critical Mad Grit play, or Spies from the Shadows or Iron Maiden.
So I play what I want. I'm gonna crush, have even matches, and get crushed all the same so why sweat it? A lot of my builds are specialized trash(I use Treacherous Crows+No Mither, or play wolf only Drac for fun) I don't feel any need to conform to a meta post 6.1 to be honest. Borrowed Time, Decisive Strike and Dead Hard were simply leagues beyond everything else. No BT was actually straight up trolling.
To keep a healthy mental i switch between high tier and low tier killers. That way i can chill on my billy after getting steamrolled as ghostface.
As soloq quentin i have no solution for you. Just accept the fact that you are playing dark souls.
you don't need to run meta to have fun, you just need to find your own fun. If you are beat by meta, that's okay, there is a reason it's called meta. lol But sometimes you win against it and it feels great.
Seriously, posting should be like this…
What u main:
# of game hours played:
Perks most often used:
Screenshots for proof
Then what you have to say…because a lot of you guys just yap with authority because you post so damn much.
I try to have fun by making wacky builds on survivor and killer but when I do that I end up getting crushed more than not and then immediately get hit with the classics "ggez", "freelo/free bp", "uninstall" and etc. I'm one of those people that have fun by winning and when I try to run wacky builds and I get completely crushed and then **** talked for being bad so I run meta but I think thats just kind of the toxic cycle of dbd.
me who posts because i like sharing my thoughts…
Why are you on a text based website, while simultaneously complaining about people yapping? Like make it make sense, close the website and you don't need to see "yapping".
What is your credentials? Right.
Yeah I love running both invocations, no mither, and hope but I get tunneled because I can't really be slugged and I'll give you a build idea, try to run a build that intentionally hinders you so winning makes it feel all the sweeter but yeah perks are garbage I'm getting to the point of just saying to remove perks from dbd as bad of an idea that is lol.
I knew that post would grind your gears, but honestly, I would be embarassed to have as many thoughts and posts like yourself on a text based website….jeez 961….get a life.
I only get on here to complain about the balance…clearly I am outmatched, I salute you internet influencing muggles.
This is a forum, what else are we supposed to do on here, dont need to be rude
You can always complain about the game and your validated by what you think, however you dont need to be brash about it. were all showing our opinions on here
No, the problem is, BHVR sees how many times you post and consider your opinions over those that don't post as often without regard to level of skill. And thus, we have this disparity of how killers are overwhelmingly taking precedence in the comment section resulting into their influence on how the game should work mechanically.
That is not how it works…
Does not matter how many times you post on the off chance the devs do reply or console us they treat us as equal. even then its still unlikely to actually be taken into consideration unless its a bug report or something outrageous.
I am a killer main, however i do think of the game for both sides, whatever mechanics i suggest are for purely fun and for feedback, i like listening to others ideas and opinions in fact if you look at my posts you would see i have never demanded anything and have not stuck to a certain side of the game.
And if you want my credentials, who i main, how many hours i have on the game ill happily share it
but i assure you, my opinion means squat to the devs
Again, by whose authority are you speaking from? This is not how it works? Oh really? Why are you even speaking like you know it all….
I mean face it, if that was how it works the game would be horrible, degraded to the ground. i speak by no authority just telling you the truth. look im not trying to argue but i generally am just explaining that you didnt have to make a snarky comment on post counts
I speak from facts.
The fact is…killers keep getting stronger and more advantages, meanwhile survivors are getting gutted.
You say people complaining on the forums don't lead to changes in the game…WHAT?!
OK how did Dead Hard and Decisive Strike just get nerfed?
Magic right? Just a coincidence…
Ok be honest have you just been rage baiting me this entire time
like im not even mad im just curious lol
also i wasnt here when DH and DS got nerfed so idk wat happened there
I wonder if you are doing the same…but just in case…dead hard used to move you like 3 meters upon use. Decisive strike u used to get over maybe 90 seconds and you got 2 of them. Now I don't mind it being 1, but allow me the choice of when i want to activate it. You used to be able to use ds after the last gen…not anymore. yawn.
Ok ill admit you got me with the rage bait. im a very stupid person lol.
but yeah i knew old DH but DS USED TO BE TWO? jesus. i wasnt around for this time so
why are you?
According to the wiki, it never could be used twice.
What was deeply annoying was that while the Obsession could use it immediately, anybody who wasn't the Obsession didn't get to do the skillcheck until around a third of the bar was filled, meaning you could get hit by a surprise DS up to 3 times.
I was preparing a response to OP and happened to read the rest of the responses first and you posted nearly word for word what i wanted to post XD.
As you said guys first post so likely hood is they have lost a lot and want to find any excuse as to why other than the fact that they are just not good at DBD lol.
If you missed it the first time, you get a second chance to do it on your second hook.
Damn i didnt know that, sorry for arguing with you by the way i was lowkey confused
I mean, sure, but that's different from getting 2 of them. You only get to strike once.
I am genuinely not trying to argue either, but some of the comments are baseless and I wonder whether people actually are trolling because it seems to me progressively over the years, survivors get nerfed…now I don't mind most of the nerfs because I thought I was having a ball. However, when you bring in a character that literally takes away every thing possible for an escape and really oppressive every aspect of the survival game…most notably just our 1 sliver of a ticket out of a bad situation (exhaust perk)…it just makes you wonder, dang I really got play my utmost best…I really don't think I am having the greatest of times. It just became that extra high stakes.
Obviously my memory is a bit foggy on what happened over 1000s of hours of gameplay, but I remember it being triggered twice, so sorry if I got that confused. Mind you, those nerfs happened a long time ago. But the main nerf to it was completely shutting it off at the final gen pop.
Yes, it is pretty strong, if you play a strong early game as the insurance is really nice to have, but at the same time, you have killers still tunneling and still camping. So get off my nuts is what I say to those that do and eat some DS.
I'll fully admit to the fact that I'm not the best at dbd but I made the post mostly to vent about the common things I was experiencing and seeing (Death threats, toxicity from both sides, meta issues etc.) but I wouldn't say I'm making excuses for being bad at the game because i will fully admit that I am lol
i sadly only have half your hours, im very inexirenced, just share a passion for the game
sorry i cant spell, i hate laptops
Still can't believe BHVR nerfed perks like STBFL and Sloppy that basically only helped the weaker m1 killers. Absolutely ridiculous decisions made with those changes.
Nah, they got back to me and said they'd had a few harsh games and were looking to vent about some things they found incredibly unfun. I don't blame them, sometimes this game does test it's most loyal players, but yeah I don't agree with most of what they said.
