3.5.1 Hotfix patch: Hook "tech" and silent slugs still not adressed

In the recent dev stream, they said they'd remove the hook "tech" and yet it is nowhere to be seen in the hotfix patch notes.

Also, slugged Survivors making no injured noises is in the game for over a month now and hasn't even been mentioned by the Devs other than that there are "sound issues", which is a really vague statement.

Could you please give us an update on the situation regarding these two issues?

Thank you in advance!

Odds are, if those were reported properly in the bug reports section, they're on the to-do list. As much as we'd like to snap our fingers and fix every single bug in one update, that's just not possible. Each one takes time to log, find, and fix. It's not a matter of picking favourites just because your specific bug was not addressed yet.

It's been over half a year dude, and nurse's blink is still bugged. I doubt it's even on their radar anymore =/

Well but the hooked survivior is supposed to block hits. I believe disabling animation enhancement for the hooked surviviors could fix the problem.

Yeah they can, if the Killer messes up. Not because a broken aim-assist forces them too.

Playing survivor should merit some level of actual skill.

  • Did they fix Oni's inverted controls reverting in Blood Fury? (playing with a controller on PS4) Anyone know? I've never seen it mentioned in any of the patch notes, but I also haven't played Oni recently.

But the Decisive Strike Doctor big was fixed almost immediately... you can see why people say survivor bias right?

As was the Freddy snare placement delay. There is no preferential treatment, some bugs are harder to fix than others.

It's been an issue for a very long time. They also don't just say "makes the hits look nicer after the server has confirmed it's gonna hit". Because the hit isn't confirmed till your weapon object interacts with the survivor hit box object. It basically is a cone shaped radius in front of the Killer, and that if the attack were to go through (be in that cone), they aim-assist will kick in and try to force it's best to connect the blow, so it looks smoother. However that causes problems, like "What if another object suddenly is in between the killer and that survivor". Like the survivor took a quick turn around a small rock. Well. Just what you would think the aim assist kicks in, forces your attack forward, and you can't avoid that object.

What I think is happening, which is why it happens more often with survivors on hooks. Since the survivor on hook, while on hook is still a survivor in the coding, it recognizes that survivor as the one you're actually aiming for before the savior, and then forces the attack to go through on the hooked target.

I could be wrong, because I don't program the game, and that is a simplified description, but it definitely happens a lot more often against hooked survivors than it does other objects in the map, so i'm theory crafting.

I just wish they would fix it, or change it back, because honestly if you require to use the survivor as a body shield because you didn't take Borrowed Time, then you should be getting punished for performing unsafe saves.

    I think its just hitboxes.

After like 6 months you guys should say you acknowledge the more serious ones that still have not been fixed, it would definitely go a long way to know they are at least being worked on.

Like, just do a news post of known issues, not the little blip at the bottom of patch notes but it's own thing. Just list all the bugs like the Nurse bug and such, the ones that are really impactful, and say hey we know it's been a long while but we are still aware and working on these issues:

If it takes time, fine, but after a certain point there should be some kind of communication. You don't acknowledge the bug reports in the forum because you admitted it's a technical limitation you can't get around, okay, then what about a post once every month or so, that lists current bugs that are being worked on, even if no time is given, just showing they are aware and being dealt with.

That would solve a lot of the anger in the forums too, and wouldn't be that hard to do. Hell a community member could do it for you if no one else wants to, and it would only take like 15 minutes of a devs time to go like "working on it, working on it, unaware will check the post, working on it, not working on it because it's not a bug, working on it" when read back the list.

I don't see why something like that can't be set up.

Edit: Hell, if I made an organized list of larger issues people have been reporting for a while now, would you or would you be able to get someone to just check that list really quick? It would take like a few minutes of their time, and would answer a ton of questions instantly, and negate like a third of the negativity BHVR gets for not being transparent enough. No forum limitations, or "too much time" concerns, no worries about a false promise, just wham bam done.

  • Giving hatchet as an evample is a bad idea, hatchets hitbox is the most broken hitbox in the whole game lol. But yeah, survivior hitboxes are not that great either. But thats not only while unhooking, its always like that.

  • Sound issues for killers still a thing months in, but that DS bug fixed in a week lmfao.

Not gonna lie, but it's pretty amusing that you use that as "proof" that you fix killer bugs, when the a large amount of those bugs actually create negative experience for survivors. The point is not that you don't fix killer bugs, the point is that you aren't fixing bugs that are detrimental to killers and have been for literally months.

To use an example from that screenshot alone, the Freddy snare placement delay negatively affected killers and surfaced at the same time as the Decisive Strike issue. Different bugs take a different amount of time to pinpoint and fix, it's not a matter of preference.

I get that, i'm just saying that the point of the post was that you aren't fixing serious bugs for killers such as the sound issues that have been around for months. Almost every game i have someone who, while injured literally makes no noise and they don't have iron will. Or while downed they make literally no noise. Or generator noises being bugged (on both sides) but this affects killer more, for example the beginning of this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqhBALWJc50)

I understand the frustration, but to say that it's because we're favouring one side over the other in spite of clear evidence that we aren't is something completely different. It's purely based on how hard the bugs are to fix.

    To give an example:

    • Decisive Strike doesn't work.
    • Each time it's reported, it's against the Doctor.
    • Each time it's reported, the survivor gets a madness skill check.

From that alone, you can narrow it down to madness skill checks very quickly, making it easy to figure out what's causing it and fix it.

Likewise, some can be more difficult to reproduce, such as the sound issue:

    • Sometimes a survivor does not make sounds when injured or down.
    • This happens against any killer, with any build on any map.
    • There is no consistent way to make this happen.

Figuring out what exactly is causing this issue takes more investigation, so a fix is naturally going to take longer. (For the record, we are actively investigating this one right now.)

Clown's bottles and Plague's vomit have been broken for months and months now with not even any acknowledgement at all.

A "we're working on it" or at least something to try to band-aid their issues of their powers literally not working would be nice.

Do you know how frustrating it is to play a killer and your power just literally not working? I puke on people, they do the animation, and they don't get sick. Or I vault a pallet or a window. They vault over it/drop it. Not sick.

I throw a bottle of gas straight ahead, it veers off 20 degrees to the right. I throw a bottle of gas, sometimes it just doesn't explode. Sometimes it DOES explode, the survivor runs right through it, screams, yet doesn't even begin coughing and then proceeds the fast vault the window. Sometimes the bottle of gas explodes right in my face rather than even being thrown --

All this while these killers are supposed to somehow kill survivors within an average span of 6 minutes before exit gates are powered and then people wonder why killers get frustrated.

Hell, I can run into a pallet with my chainsaw on either Billy or Leatherface aaaaannd nothing. My killer just stops dead and the pallet remains in tact. I've seen this problem happen with Oni and Demogorgan as well -- they just stop in their dash or their lunge like the pallet breaking animation just got stopped on the first frame or something. This has existed with Hillbilly and Leatherface for months now and it continues to happen with any killer that is able to have an alternative way to break pallets. When this bug happens, it can be the difference between winning a chase, to losing a chase and the entire game because again, Killers are expected to apparently play perfect to maybe stand a chance on some set ups.

Even if we ignore all of the above, why did it take so long for both Spirit and Wraith's "windstorm" effects to get fixed when the issue was pretty obvious and it was repeatable every single time? Why did it take weeks for Trapper to not step in his own traps after literally just placing them, again, a simple but very impacting issue, that was easy to repeat every time and seems fairly easy to fix?

Killers have so many bugs. Like seriously, dozens and dozens and dozens and dozens of bugs that have been left to fester for weeks, months, and sometimes even years while almost every survivor bug that pops up that hurts them gets fixed within two weeks and things like this hook tech and being able to clip through a killer while they are vaulting has remained unpatched for weeks,

Myers and Ghostface stalking not working,

False swings on Billy's chainsaw still exists after over a year,

Totems still literally spawning out in the open, especially on Crotus Prenn (not sure if bug or just incompetence tbh)

Auto aim and forcing a killer's swings into walls or whatever still exists for whatever reason,

Still no fix against flash lights insta blinding,

Still no fix for Wraith being stuck cloaked even after uncloaking (especially when stunned by a pallet),

Ghostface still being able to be exposed behind walls (and not exposed out in the open) has remained since his release...

...and I literally could just keep going on, and on, and on, and on...

It's just so frustrating. Killer is already stressful, you guys have been making it even more stressful with trying to make survivor's gameplay easier as if Survivor wasn't the power role already since the game's entire conception (they still are), and fixing one or two killer bugs every patch that introduces four or more against killers just isn't enough. The ship is leaking faster through cracks and holes than you guys are either willing or are capable of plugging and eventually it's going to come back and bite you once it officially begins to sink and people start abandoning ship.

I think you guys need to come up with an entirely different solution to how you handle bugs. What you guys are doing isn't working. Maybe there can be a different branch in the PTB, where selected groups of players who have shown good reliable behavior can go in to help find and test specific issues you guys are looking for or something. If there's a particular set of bugs you guys are struggling to track, let the community help you in a controlled environment.

    AMEN

I personally care more about the pace of the game itself than how many kills I get.

Having to sit there and camp because some moron thinks he's being funny isn't entertaining and it probably sucks for the poor guy on the hook even more knowing his teammate is being an ass.

Camping is a legit strategy, stop complaining about it.

Or you can just position yourself correctly and smack them. You’re most likely getting that Survivor down and if they’re dumb enough to stay under the hook, you’ll have two hooked Survivors. If you camp then the other one or two Survivors can just repair the gens.

  • Hook Tech, and Window Tech. Youtubers should post awareness messages that these tricks were used against low ranked Killers.

Even if you hide under a person on the hook, you're still going to get hit, and the killer is still gonna take the hook exchange.

If you try to walk through the killer through a window, they are just going to 180/360 and hit you because they have a mouse sensitivity over 50.

Tested it in KYF, if the Survivor positions correctly you CAN NOT hit them and a clip on the first page of this Thread shows that even tantruming into the hook with Bubba doesn't hit them

  • Sounds def need looked into. Still getting no noise from downed survivors here and there and haven’t been able to determine a common factor why. “Hook” tech irks me more as a solo survivor than it does a killer as it’s easy to counter

I dont know why a killer would complain about the hook tech. You can camp two people for free or ain't correctly and hit them. It's a dumb tech.

Ever think about that camping is boring af for some Killer players? I hate that "playstyle".

It doesn't have anything to do with Iron Will, it even happens without the person having it.

My downed survivors make noise. So it's likely tied to something else, seeing as it's not 100% always happening.

And hook tech? Really? You mean where you have 2 survivors sitting on one hook? That's free sacrifices my friend. Not to mention you can still swing and hit them if you aim correctly. Literal free hits.

at 9:40 is an example of a slug not making noise. Its not every slug even in this match thats doing it either

Also in regard to Umbra's clip: The Quentin on the ground at the end did not have Iron Will so it's not related to that for the person who thought it was.

Sounds being messed up for killers on a gamebreaking level: After months barely even mentioned by the developers.

DS bugged versus one killer sometimes : Gets fixed within a week.

    God, do I love Behaviour.

Yup but there not survivor biased at all right

If you dont want to camp you can easily hit them. It's a stupid tech and you should punish it.

Everyone is complaining about it when there are bigger balance issues that need to take priority. But the devs listen to whiners and low ranks.. so meh..

It will get fixed shortly while we still have all kinds of rampant sound bugs and maps arent getting addressed. (Atleast the problematic ones that are still to big to patrol)

Iron will doesn't work in the dying state anyway

  • They've been "fixing" sound for over a year now

How often do I have to say that you CAN NOT hit them when they position correctly? The only thing that CAN work is throwing a Hatchet below the hooked persons feet when you step back from the hook, but otherwise there is no chance. It's like talking to a wall.

It's a mindgame, I have hit them when they have tried... as I said before if you are having such an issue with it camp a little bit. Whether you like to or not it's the appropriate response.

Just like rushing gens on a camping leatherface is the appropriate response. You have to punish these actions. Everyone always thinks these techs are op. Most of them dont work at high level play or they only work once until the killer wishes up.

As I said before there are many more vital issues that need fixed before this "op hook tech" lol.

And again, as I said multiple times, it is not about that I can camp them, but that it makes camping the best option there and that is soooo damn boring.

  • I never said it did. If you read the first comment of page 4, you would see what I was replying to, which I clearly explained in my response. "for the person who thought it was"
