Not to defend using the MMR system as your metric for winning or losing, because you really should just ignore the MMR system and let it do its work in the background, but that scenario is a loss. The MMR system didn't create the win/loss conditions, they've existed since the game was launched.

The real problem is that people are too caught up in winning or losing and ignore all other details. The scenario you describe is a loss, but in my book, it's a pretty good + fun loss that I'd be perfectly happy with. Others, less so, and they might be happier if they re-evaluated that stance.

Agree to disagree. Survivors are a team. There are 4 of you and if 3 escape then that's a pretty solid team effort and in my opinion is a win even if I'm the person dying. Not really sure why so many survivors have the mindset that they should be able to 1v1 the killer and if they fail that, they've lost.

Obviously, however if MMR worked that gap shouldn't exist. Also "I think the major issue is that a lot of survivors only see themself escaping as a win." If you want to take dying for your team a personal win that's great however the devs put a system in place that counts dying as losing no matter what you did in the match.

BHVR has acknowledged that the MMR system is lacking in that regard and that they're working on making escaping less important. That said, why do people feel so beholden to what an invisible system considers a win or loss? You don't see your MMR go up or down, and the MMR parameters are a joke for matchmaking purposes so it doesn't even better if it goes up or down after a game.

Like, do you actually consider it a loss if you do 3 gens, save a couple of people, get a clutch flashlight save, take the killer on a game losing chase for the last 2 gens and then die in basement cause the killer had NOED and your teammates all left instead of risking it? Are you not capable of making a win/loss judgement for yourself without considering what BHVR's piss poor system thinks of your performance? Lol.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/394359/skill-issue-can-t-be-camped-or-tunneled-without-going-down

For tunneling not to be successful there has to be a massive skill gap between the survivor and killer.

And survivors can work on improving to make the skill gap in their favor

  • I think the major issue is that a lot of survivors only see themself escaping as a win. So even if they run the killer for 5 gens and then get camped/tunneled, the killer did something wrong and BHVR should step in, when in reality they just won the game for their team (3 survivors escape) and the killer lost. I get that it's frustrating to be the one who gets pressured like that but frankly if the killer hard focuses me and then loses, I'll easily take the death.

That being said, most survivors can definitely improve in chase. If you pre-drop shack and go down 2 seconds later then YOU made a mistake and it's not up to the killer, or BHVR, to cheer you on for a nice effort.

  • Dbd is all about RNG. Sometimes it's in your favor, sometimes it's not. Don't get me wrong: there's always something you can do to improve and something you did poorly. Ironing out those mistakes will make your games more consistent but it also doesn't change the fact that some games are lost on load in because either side gets a god tier set up (map, tiles, gen placement, # of pallets) and unless the matchmaking is extraordinarily bad (where the side that didn't get the favorable RNG is just THAT much better than the other side) you usually can't make up for it.

Anyway, if you're struggling I'd suggest either recording your games or just taking a few minutes after each one to think about mistakes you might've made. Playing hardball with survivors isn't a bad thing: in fact, it's mostly necessary. Slugging someone for pressure instead of hooking them can be the difference between a 4k and the last gen getting done, as can only taking favorable chases (i.e don't go to main building or shack in your first chase if the survivor seems decent) or tunneling someone out.

  • Re: Survivor UI.

These things aren't mutually exclusive. Most survivors are bad and rely on strong perks to make up for their shortcomings, but you also reach a point where you hit a ceiling as a solo queue player. No matter how good a player gets, they will never be able to communicate what they're doing to the 3 randoms on their team the way a SWF easily can. Same thing with the "show survivor perks" idea that's been floating around for a while: no amount of improving is going to tell a solo queue survivor that random Claudette #626 has Deliverance.

We should be able to tell players in this game that most of their losses come down to skill issue while also acknowledging that bridging the gap between solo queue and SWF is in everybody's best interest.

Yes we did, so far the art team does not have any plan to rework other hairstyle.

Can you suggest that they rework Kate's ponytail? It looks so blocky compared to Nancy's ponytail for example

I play plague a lot and would gladly help you, first off the plague's base kit is ok but can be real op with specific add ons, the build i use on her is the following:

Hex: Ruin (soon to be replaced with corrupt intervention)

    Thanatophobia

    Monitor & Abuse.

    Surge.

thanatophobia is an absolute must on plague, survivors tend to not cleanse when going against plague, so you can use this to your advantage.

monitor & abuse cuz you're a tall 32m terror radius killer, and if survivors stay broken they can hear you coming and will get into postion, but with monitor you can sneak up on them and they won't be able to position themselves near a pallet soon enough, also the 10 fov degree is icing on the cake.

Surge i started using on her recently and i gotta say it's rly good on her, she lacks map pressure and surge helps her make up by regressing nearby generators without the need to waste your time going around smacking gens, and since you're gonna be an m1 killer vs injured survivors this perk will be activated a lot.

ruin or corrupt to buy you time early game so that you can infect survivors and get the ball rolling.

as for playstyle i like using ashen apple (or blessed apple) and once all survivors become injured i use the pool and start snowballing if possible, if the window is narrow for puking on a survivor cuz they're in a jungle gym or a god loop or whatever then just puke on them and go, they'll get injured eventually, also her 2 ultra rare add ons are pretty god damn good, you see black incense is like i'm all ears but on steroids, it's free wall hacks, and iridescent seal (gives you corrupt purge when a gen is repaired) while not as good as black incense, it's still pretty decent, you see as plague or any other killer gens get popped when you're in a chase, and when that happens as plague while you're running this add on you can pretty much end the chase instantly, you get free corrupt purge mid chase without the need to waste time and go pick up a fountain, however you must run worship tablet cuz the seal has a lot of nasty downsides and worship tablet helps nullify them. oh and also if you pick up corrupt purge from a fountain survivors gain an audible notification that you have corrupt but with this add on when a gen is popped survivors dont get and audible notification. unless you pick it from the fountain instead of a gen popping

that's all, ofc you can replace surge with pgtw if you dont have demodoggo.

also if the gens are too close avoid puking on them cuz most survivors won't repair them and it will just turn into a really long and boring game, especially if you're running corrupt

    @Fibijean said:

I don't play enough Plague to give you an full, in-depth guide on how to play her, but I can give you a couple of tips when it comes to using your Vile Purge. You should definitely vomit on every generator you see at the start of a match to delay generator repairs and/or get survivors sick. This is the main reason why those that use Corrupt Intervention on Plague do so, because it makes it easier to infect every available generator at the start of the match.

Bear in mind that the amount you charge your power is proportional to the amount of time you'll spend vomiting afterwards. Generators only require a tiny splash to get infected (and I don't believe that the amount of vomit that hits them affects how long they remain infected for, though I could be wrong and would have to test it to be sure). So you can save time by only charging your power up a little bit instead of all the way to infect generators.

You can also do the same thing with pallets and vaults during chases, which can be particularly helpful around those tight loops. Once a pallet or vault is infected, any healthy survivor who vaults the window or pallet, or drops the pallet if it's upright, should become infected. From there, even if you can't hit them with your Vile Purge attack, it's only a matter of time until they become Broken and you can down them in one hit.

Thanks a lot, this helped :)

If they did, there's no mention of it on the wiki. Could you link me to the patch notes where that change was made?

    https://deadbydaylight.gamepedia.com/Patch_Notes_1.7.0

    Under bug fixes

"Fixed an issue that caused The Shape to get Bloodlust in Tier I"

  • @Fibijean said:

If you were stalking the survivor during that time (which I assume you were, to get to tier 2), that's probably why Bloodlust didn't activate. According to the official wiki, Bloodlust either doesn't activate or completely resets when you stalk survivors as Myers.

So it's not that Bloodlust doesn't activate in tier 1, it's that it doesn't activate if you're spending a lot of time stalking, which is usually the case in EW tier 1.

Didn't make it so you actually can't build BL in tier 1?

  • They wanted to make Doctor less annoying for rank 20s, they never had any intention of actually making him playable.

  • @Godzilla said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/973495#Comment_973495

But why is it never brought up? It made finding the totem as a total new player easy enough, it can't be just me so why don't more new survivors use it?

Because survivors want to afk on gens. They don't want to make any effort at all. The most vocal complainers about NOED are the same people who refuse to run small game or detective's hunch or a map to find totems because it breaks their gen repair immersion. It's ######### stupid.

  • Would be nice if they buffed an underpowered perk like DS to add a feature where skill checks are automatically hit for you as well. Would be a nice change for survivors. Thoughts?

  • @StarMoral said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/973465#Comment_973465

So essentially let them plow through gens to possibly get a 3 gen?

    Wow

Can you imagine spawning near a main building and having to set up to defend 3 gens near ironworks or wretched shop where everyone makes a beeline for the windows lmao

  • Don't worry, I bet they'll buff small game AND nerf ruin :) BHVR are good at multitasking

  • @Nameless said:

How does one apply pressure to all 4 survivors exactly? Especially at the start of the game?

You pick a mobile killer and get lucky with spawn RNG :)

Good luck pressuring anything if all 4 survivors spawn alone, near gens, and you're a slow killer.

  • I wish they'd gut exhaustion perks so survivors can just learn to not put themselves out of position lol

  • @DwightOP said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/969386#Comment_969386

Nonsense. Hex perks don't exist in late game. Do you even play DbD in red ranks? Totems will always be destroyed after a while. I count on one hand when a totem stayed alive the whole time and I have over 3k hours. This perk is absolutly useless if it stays a hex. And its not even strong if it's a normal perk, no clue how u can see it would be op.

The only time I've seen a totem still be up by the time the game is over is when the killer absolutely steam rolls (usually because the survivors are overly altruistic and throw the game) the survivors and the game lasts 3 minutes.

  • @PistolTimb said:

I'm glad they're finally bringing an overpowered killer perk in line. I can't wait for them to do the same for overpowered survivor perks. Surely they will... right?

    ...right?...

    Narrator: They didn't.

  • They should make Noed spawn from the start of the game while they're at it

  • @Almo said:

We do play it. To varying degrees on the team, but me personally... I play a lot. The new Ruin is designed to be something that ramps up in power over time. If that totem isn't cleansed by the time there are 3 gens left, the Survivors will be in huge trouble. That's how Hex Perks work.

How many times do I see a Killer get moris off Devour Hope? Not often. But when it happens... oh boy there's some panic lookin' for that totem. :)

But... DH has enough reward to justify the risk. The ######### am I gonna do with new ruin when I lose 2-3 gens in the first 90 seconds of the game? By then the survivors have so much momentum that regression won't make much of a difference. At least DH comes with a real threat and at a balanced cost: being able to one shot at 3 tokens is super strong - the mori is just an added reward if it lasts that long, it's rarely the reason killers run it.

  • @Peanits said:

I would definitely say give it a try first. Having played around with it, it can be pretty nasty once you get some pressure. Combine it with Surveillance and you also get some outrageous tracking (since generators automatically regress). You'll always know which generators are being worked on.

Do I need to get the pressure before or after the totem gets cleansed 30 seconds into the game?

  • @Fibijean said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/967796#Comment_967796

If they're that well-coordinated, it's possible that you're right and it would have been a loss either way. Without knowing what killer you were playing or what build you were running, it's hard to give you more specific advice for countering that kind of situation.

I was playing doctor with BBQ, pop, ruin, brutal strength (I was doing the Tome 4 BS challenge). I didn't run any of the addons that make the shock area bigger, either, so I don't think I could've shocked them in time at the window... Maybe I should've tried to get them all madness 3 I guess

  • @Fibijean said:

They're obviously trying to bait you into a chase you can't win, so I would say just don't fall for the bait and patrol the gens instead. Yes, if you can't catch them, you can't complete your objective, but if they can't repair the generators, neither can they. And you might have opportunities to get in a hit or two along the way if you catch them off-guard, thus edging the game in your favour.

The main issue is that they were splitting up on the gens really well. I'd chase one guy off his gen, kick it, go to the other gen... Now what? That guy could undo any regression by the time I'm back to pressure his gen, which is what I meant by survivors chipping away on the gens...

Do I just take the L at that point? Do I try to chase at the coal tower since it's a loss either way?

  • It's also possible that those videos had a face cam with her "old" nose (she just had a nose job), I've had friends had plastic surgery done who wanted nothing to do with old pictures of them. Maybe related?

  • It's a trash tier perk if you have more than 2 hours on killer and/or you have 4 other perks to choose from.

  • Survivors. I don't think BHVR has a malicious intent, but survivor mains outnumber killer mains so their voices are always gonna be heard more.

  • I get it off first try more than last try, RNG has favored me. I'd say 2nd attempt on average

Survivor, I think it was against a legion though. The Rank 16 matched with us rank 6's and 9 was probably glad it crashed tho LOL

There's currently a bug that makes the game crash sometimes when Legion uses their power

People got pissed that the event was delayed due to bugs just a few days ago.

Now people are pissed there's bugs but the event launched.

Is it unreasonable to expect an event to launch without bugs after it was delayed for over a week to fix said bugs? Lol

  • I give them a chance. I won't play "optimal" and sometimes I end up farming with them too. It depends though; if they brought a lot of unfun items, made a last second switch in the lobby, or act toxic in game then I'll kill them with no regrets lol

  • It's not that the event was delayed to fix bugs, it's the fact that they launched it even when bugs weren't fixed

  • @thenegativone said:

They got the halloween event out for halloween like people wanted....half of yall even said "i dont want battle pass tied to my event" and now youre upset...the community is going to be the reason this game dies because bhvr is gonna quit bothering if everything they do isn't good enough

Are you trolling? The event is still tied to the Rift because we can't get any serums without leveling up tiers in the Rift lmao.

  • Coming from someone with 2700h on survivor and about 300 on killer... NOED is fine. Cleanse the totems. If you're lazy you get punished, if NOED is a huge problem for you then running Small Game or Detective's Hunch should end up being a good investment.

  • Thank you guys, very helpful advice!

  • Billy - when I think of "default DBD", he's the killer I think of. He's vanilla and the other killers are different flavors and I prefer diversity. He's also by far the most common killer at purple ranks and up, which makes playing survivor miserable too. I think he's fine balance wise and I understand why so many people like him, but he's not for me at all.

Doctor - never understood his playstyle personally. Also I'm not good with his shocks so he becomes a regular M1 killer with a slightly annoying power that I can't utilize in chases (this is all on me though, don't get me wrong).

Clown - I've never found him to be effective. Whenever I play him I get 1 kill at the most. Unfortunately I still have to get the bottle achievement for him so I'll have to grind him eventually, maybe something will click then.

The other killers I enjoy playing to some extent.

  • @GrootDude said:

The only problem with nurse is her extra blinks and range add-ons.

I tend to agree with this. It's the extra blinks and range addons that make her broken; a default two blink nurse with normal blinks is strong, but much more managable and not as oppressive.

  • This is what I do when I play killer.

Out of position survivor, they're not near any major loops or pallets, or ran past them: continue chase until downed or end if they manage to get to a loop.

Pallet heavy area, survivor drops pallets without looping: continue chase

Pallet heavy area, survivor loops decently before dropping: eat one or two, see if they're running to another loop or if they're caught out of position. If the former, end chase, if the latter, continue chase.

Looping proficient survivor in general: abandon chase after 10-15 seconds

Spot another survivor on a gen: end chase

Survivor who's used exhaustion perks and are vulnerable: continue chase

  • No mither would be a lot better if the iron will effect was 100%. It's such a risky perk to run and I feel like the rewards don't outweigh the risk. Should be high risk, high reward, while right now it's high risk, mediocre reward.
