Looks more like SSR, maybe you're right. But yeah, BHVR talked about their plans before adding ray tracing. But they really need to be carefull. At this point performance should be the mainfocus. When they add real ray tracing, things can get even worse. At least we would need an option to activate / deactive it. And some kind of perfomance / graphic mode for ALL plattforms. Pretty sure XSX and PS5 doesn't even have 'ultra' settings yet, i'd say it's 1 setting below. And although both next gen consoles could run it easily, they still don't have STABLE 60 fps on all maps.

Of course it will be completly optional to use any kind of ray tracing, and gpus without any kind of hardware accelerated rt wont even be able to run it. So even if the performance is very bad, it can just be disabled in the settings. It's not like they're gonna make DBD only run on ray tracing, that would kill the player base lol

your joking right? a ps5 couldnt handle raytracing with dbd lol. bad enough without you need a high end rig for raytracing

Dude you know both the ps5 and xbox series s/x has "ray accelerators" (which amd calls their cores for hardware accelerated rt), right? Also the gpu's in them are pretty good, above the average "gaming pc" gpu. (Around the same performance as an 6600 XT or RTX 3060 (ti?), or RTX 2070 super). They can run some ray tracing without any problems, unless you play 4k and want stable 60 fps with many ray traced settings turned on.

  • @Katzengott said:

I'm pretty sure since they updated the UE engine with 4.2.0 there's already some kind of ray tracing.

Just look for all this reflexions, like water and light effects. Even windows of oppurtunity shows reflexions sometimes.

Thats just some rasterized reflections, proberly ssr. The problem with those "faked" reflections is that only things on the screen appears in those reflections. Here's a video to show what i mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCXVG0Qw7Fo

I have a 3080 & a Ryzen 5950x and I still get stutters, the game is optimized terribly.

Add "-DX12" to the startup parameters of DBD in steam.

Obviously. But I am not really a fan of adding Raytracing while large portions of the playerbase cannot experience the game without lags or freezes.

The freezes and lagspikes is mostly cpu related, not gpu, and fsr works on most gpus, also older ones, so adding that would be a win for all players

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

There is no Raytracing in this game yet. And I hope that the game gets optimized better before they add a Feature for the few select people who were able to buy a Next Gen-Console or RTX-GPU.

You will need some kind of rt cores/hardware, unless u want to run with like 3 fps. The only gpus that has hardware accelerated rt support is rtx and rx 6000 gpus. They're proberly also gonna add DLSS and/or FSR to help with the performance drop of RT.

  • just be happy that you dont play against 3k-9k hour players basically every game.

  • They should just make it into two maps. One map with bottom floor, and another with the top floor.

  • Legacy players with above 7k hours.

  • The switch players can just turn off crossplay manually if it gets out of hand

  • probably your connection then. also, you pressed the botten really late, so it should've connected as it did.

  • I would say DBD has more bugs than Cyberpunk. I've first played CP a week after its release, and i have over 80 hours in it, and i've only experienced like 5 small bugs. It's still 5 too many, but DBD is far worse i would say. I also feel like CDPR is acctually trying to fix the game, with many bug fix patches. A good exaple is patch 1.2 (https://www.cyberpunk.net/en/news/37801/patch-1-2-list-of-changes), were they fixed over 500 bugs, unlike BHVR which takes months to fix just a small amount of bugs. And the excuse of BHVR being a much smaller company isn't really a valid reason anymore, since they have more than 700 employees total. Of course not everybody works on DBD, but the majority does.

  • It's BHVR. Don't demand a big event if they can't even keep the current event bug-free.

I was assuming pallets were just a place holder for stuff like doors or other obstacles. Pallets are easy to work with I'm assuming.

Fun fact: In the early development of the game, pallets were bookshelves. They changed the bookshelves to pallets fairly quickly during the development. You can also see it in this video at 2:51 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNyZ1lWtCxM

Should killer speed be nerfed to maybe 4.2 or 4.3, especially on killers with one hit down abilities or long lunge attacks?

I know survivors run at 4, and with all the new range attacks killers, one hit downs, Noed, etc., I thought maybe devs should take another look at killer speeds. Thoughts?

This and would also help chases last longer and could help killer mains develop the much needed skill to compete when they do reach red ranks.

you know it already takes like 22 secs for the killer to catch up to you after you've been hit if you just hold W, right? if anything, killers should get a higher movement speed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fv1rD82kmM

This is up to the developers to fix once they have clear stats to work from.

Trust me, they already know DBD on a competitive level is boring and unbalanced, but they dont really care. They're balancing the game for the average player.

  • Because DBD at a competitive level is the most boring thing ever.

This whole thread is essentially a mini-forum inside of the official forum lol Anywho Scott just released a video that apparently makes the game 120 fps on PC:

    https://youtu.be/-nhsBQTgnb4

Are the devs aware of stuff like this? Do we need to get another large gaming figure to comment on the poor framerate for BHVR to take action?

Im the one that commented this fix for Scott, and i've made multiple threads on the subreddit and forum, but nobody believed me and downvoted it. It's actually pretty sad, but im glad my fix is out now with Scotts video!

  • It might have something to do with your ping. I would say if it's above 80 ms, weird hits and so will begin to happen often. Cuz remember, the real latency is your ping + the survivor/killer ping, since killer hit's are done on the killer client, not on the server, so the killer client has to send the packages to the server, and then the server have to send it to the survivors.

Also, make sure your game is at least running 60 fps all the time. The server tickrate is 60 tps, so you might get delayed packaged or they might be completely deleted if your fps is under 60.

  • If you just think about the killer power, then 100% Descend Beyond. If you want a decent killer with good perks, its Curtain Call.

  • @ManyAchievables said:

    amongsus

  • And for the huntress hatchet grab thing, there's addons that reduces cooldown after hatchet throws. And the killer is probably experienced.

  • It's just something you're imagining. Your game is running as it should. I guees you're playing a slow killer (like hag, trickster or huntress), which will make you feel way slower than a killer like trapper. VPN won't change your movement speed, only the latency which ur pc receives packages from the server, and to the server. It will actually make u play worse, since hit validation will cancel ur hits, because on the server, you're much behind. On your screen, the hit would look right, but on the server, you're many meters away from hitting the survivor, and because of that, it should be cancelled. On the other hand, sometimes ur hits will go though, and make a very unfair hit on the server (and survivors screens), which is why many don't like VPNs. It's just stupid to use and there's way more disadvantages than advantages.

Also, there's a thing called bloodlust which increases the killers movement speed while chasing survivors for a long time.

    Sources.

And again, "Outriders" is not DBD. No other game is DBD. The benefit you get, especially considering how heavy DBD is (that nobody runs it at full graphics quality is pretty telling) is individual to each game. What would help a lot more than adding more temperamental change that don't even work for everybody is changes to VfX; they just gave doctor a VfX change and now he runs much smoother.

Dude i literally sent u a video of a guy adding DLSS to a project and showed how simple it is. I would say thats a source. And if you dont believe the performance uplift, what about you go check yourself? There's many benchmarks on youtube with it on and off. It's not very game depended, and you WILL AT LEAST see 80-90% more fps. Seems like you don't know what the basics of the tech? idk

And actually, dbd isn't heavy at all compered to many other newer games. Like Outriders and Cyberpunk2077. Cyberpunk2077 runs with around 300% (+-100%) lower fps than DBD. And as an example, in Cyberpunk i see around 110% more fps with DLSS on.

    Udklip.PNG

Not 100% accurate, since it's tested under best scenario, but that should give you an idea of what kind of performance boost we're talking about. Search for some benchmarks on yt yourself if you wonna see some other benchmarks.

Not everybody has tensor cores, I'd need a source on just "plugging in" a plugin over the weekend (which again, you don't just press a button), and DLSS frame rate effects are not only not linear, but depend on individual games. You can't extrapolate a figure or approximation without actually trying it out.

And any other unreal engine game that has added DLSS with the plugin gets around double FPS, just like many other games. Some of the games that get the least amount of performance with the "Quality preset" gains at least 80% more fps, most around 100%. You're right about there's no linear line that shows how many extra fps you get. You can try and see how many fps you would get. If you have a 1080p monitor, you can run the game in 720p and see how many FPS you get. Cuz thats how many fps you will get with DLSS. DLSS just upscales the game from lower resolution to a higher one, whichout quality loss. Sometimes DLSS can make more details than without DLSS. A good example of this is in "Outriders". The game looks better with DLSS on than DLSS off. There's many other games that also looks better with it on.

Every RTX gpu has tensor cores. Here's video that shows how simple it is to add the plugin and enable it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JkHE48YptA&t= . The video is literally 7 minutes long. So yes, it is just "plugging it in". As said before, i have also done it myself. Just go to the unreal engine market place, click install and restart the engine. It's that simple. You might also want to add some option in the settings menu that enables and disables DLSS, which i think it the hardest thing to do in this process, which just show how easy it is.

  • @ShamelessPigMain said:

Unfortunately, DLSS is exclusive to Nvidia users, and as much as we can crap on Radeon users, we have to admit that they exist. That, and the fact that ray tracing is generally very, very heavy on the system, especially on such a poorly-optimized game, would cause some serious FPS issues.

Plus, it's never as easy as just plugging in a new plugin. It always takes effort and testing when changing to a new, all-encompassing overhaul.

True, false and false. DLSS is exclusive to Nvidia, yes, but AMD is working on a similar competitor to DLSS (They call it Fidelity fx super resolution), which is rumored to release by the end of the year. In a game like DBD, my GPU usage is around 70% ingame on ultra settings (1080p 144fps), which leaves 30% performance for ray tracing. That doesnt sound alot, but if they added DLSS, the gpu usage would cut in half, to 35%. Since ray doubles the GPU usage, it would come up to 70% again with DLSS and RT enabled. DLSS literally takes 7 minutes to add with the plugin in unreal engine, i have done it myself, and many smaller games that uses unreal engine has also added the feature. They literally said 1 guy from the company added the feature in one weekend. Since BHVR have many 100 employs, they have no reason to add it. It's double FPS for anyone with Tensor Cores.

And when Fidelity fx super resolution releases, they should also add that, which im sure they will, since it will also work on the newest consoles.

  • @JPLongstreet said:

Consolers: what language even is all of this?

Well the new consoles (PS5 and the new Xbox's) also have hardware for acceleration of ray tracing, so ray tracing is also possible on those consoles. AMD is also working on a competitor to DLSS, which has been leaked to also work on the new consoles, so this isn't just something exclusive to pc gamers.

Nvidia Reflex would be way more important to reduce latency.

Well higher framerate also reduces latency. But yes, Nvidia Reflex would also be a nice feature for skillchecks and such.

DLSS is actually really great. Keeps the image looking nice and sharp while running at a lower resolution. Not too sure about ray tracing in Dead by Daylight, however if there was raytraced global illumination or ambient occlusion, that would look quite nice.

They confirmed they wanted to add ray tracing in an interview ( https://wccftech.com/dead-by-daylight-will-implement-raytracing-on-pc-and-next-gen-xbox-series-s-runs-the-game-at-1080p/ )

I think ray traced shadows and lightning would fit perfectly into this game.

I'm always for graphics optimization. Almost every companies make game as everyone has a powerful gaming computer 4K 144 FPS [...] and neglecting game optimization.

I'll always remember how 2K optimized Borderlands 2 7 years after it was created (it was done to celebrate the incoming Borderlands 3). The game was more beautiful than before, from far, and gained +25% FPS. This type of optimization should be released the sooner possible after you release your game imo...

Well. With DLSS you're able to render the game in 1440p or 1080p and use Tensor Cores on RTX gpus to run the AI, which will upscale the image to your screen res (such as 4k). That will make the game able to run in 4k 144fps, since you're getting the performance of 1080p. This can also be done on like a 1080p screen, which will render the game in 720p to 500p(?)

  • @Lordofweed said:

Why are the fps drops on ps5 and xbox series x still not fixed?

Its the Lightning which came in a patch to improve graphics, which fcks up our smooth frame rates. Why cant they just remove the improved lightning?

Also why are there still no plans to bringt Mouse and Keyboard Support? There are like 50 Threads about People complaining about lack of MnKb Support.

In the last QnA (about 1-2 Months Ago) Devs said there are no plans to implement that in the future. I cant understand why they want to implement crossplay but dont equalize game mechanics, so crossplay could actually work well?

DBD is listed under Xbox Series X enhanced Games but fps drops like under 15 every single Match and no Equality between Pc and Consoles is unacceptable.

Another Thing i wanted to mention is optional Aim Assist. Every great Crossplay Game has this Feature, but DBD not? Just to be clear, i dont want this to be like in Cod, which is way too much. Just a tiny bit would be okay.

Devs, pls can you do something about this?

Well there's not much of a difference when it comes to the game... The only difference is many pcs simply have better hardware. The game also lag sometimes on high end pc's, so idk why you're blaming the ps5 and xbox series x when its simply the general optimization thats very bad.

  • @Leonardo1ita said:

Devs, now that you intentionally changed the variables to check the stats of keys, are you gonna change them or not?

Getting to 1 gen left is not that difficult, you can even sacrifice your teammate. :

    It's objective math, factual:

Supposing a survivor is hooked immediately, 3 gens in 80 seconds. Last gen repaired by 3 survivors takes 38,1 seconds (going at 2.1 charges/second).

So the hatch will spawn mathematically always if survivors play well and do gen separated.

They know how broken keys are, and they're either gonna nerf it or completely rework it. I think they're gonna do a complete rework, but who knows.

  • @laKUKA said:

    learn to slug!

Play some killer so you know how it is when someone on a team escapes just because of a key, even when you've applied pressure and killed most of the survivors.

  • One thing they're probably gonna announce the next gen upgrade to the game which will feature ray tracing (on PC and the new consoles) and DLSS on PC. BHVR already confirmed in a interview that they will add ray tracing and the next gen upgrade this year.

  • Try and add -DX12 to the startup parameters (only works if you play the game on steam)

  • Yeah they just put *space* as their name

  • Around 400.000 i would guess

  • @JediWithASniper said:

    Edited Post with point 4,5.

    Ok, so hear me out.

Instead of hooks, the game should be kills. When a survivor is hooked, the following happens:

    1. The hooked survivor has a bleed out time of 45 seconds with no struggle phase. If they are rescued, they stay injured until healed.
    2. If they are not saved, they die, and will respawn after 15 seconds.
    3. Survivors have 2 respawns.
    4. If a survivor is unhooked, they must MEND before they can be healed.
    5. If a survivor is hooked in the basement the bleed out timer is 30 seconds instead of 45.

That’s it. Camping is FIXED, suiciding on hook is FIXED, being one-hooked by bad teammates is FIXED, NOED is FIXED, tunneling is FIXED.

Im sure there is more that is FIXED by this change to the game, but I think you guys can figure that out for yourself.

I also like the idea that they must respawn as one of their other survivors.

Well thats how Deathgarden worked, and we all know it didn't go well.

  • @Chchchcheryl said:

I've been dropping frames a lot as killer recently (on live) for absolutely no reason. Survivor is fine and all.

Does anyone know why or how to fix it?

It is ridiculous that devs still hasn't added an ingame option for DX12 which on some systems can fix stuttering and increase FPS with 80% in CPU bound situations. Anyways just add -DX12 to the startup parameters for DBD and your dropping frames should be fixed. If your game crashes while tapping out of the game in DX12 mode, just add -FULLSCREEN to the startup parameters.

BHVR really doesnt give a (not family friendly word) about performance.

  • @Noz said:

    It doesnt work like that.

Well if it doesnt, then tell me how it works. Because i'm pretty sure i have read too many articles about it already.

And if you talk about DLSS, then definitely yes. Just look at Cyberpunk. With Max settings, the game runs at like 20 FPS. When DLSS is on, it gets boosted to around 55-60 FPS without any visual quality loss. Thats just the power of AI. And this feature takes 7 minutes to add in Unreal Engine.

  • @JPLongstreet said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1962648#Comment_1962648

So this might improve maybe 10% of PC players? From what I've seen of the devs methods, they don't even consider changes that do not include all platforms.

False. Around 100% more performance. And dont you think using 1 out of the 300+ devs to add this feature would be helpfull when it takes a total of 7 minutes to add? And when AMD releases their alternative to DLSS, consoles will probably also be able to use that feature.

And IF consoles uses OpenGL to render the game, Mesh Shaders will not be able to be implemented to them, but im pretty sure they also use DX11.

What about reading what i said in the post(s) before saying something completely wrong?

Nice plug. Of course since none of us (who aren't the DEV) know how their code works, that is a pretty big assumption even IF (big if) the COMMERCIAL you just gave us was actually true. And we all know commercials are generally NOT true.

It is true and you can run the benchmark yourself XD (you need to pay for 3DMark)

Or even just search for DX12 Ultimate Mesh Shaders performance test

  • @White_Owl said:

If it was that easy they probably would have done it already...

Well DLSS 2.0 is very easy to add. But this will only work on Nvidia RTX gpus. Even if lets say 10% of the player base has a rtx gpu, it would still be worth it, considering it only takes 7 mins to add in Unreal Engine lmao. There's tutorials on youtube how to add it that takes less than 7 minutes.

The reason they haven't added it is this plugin for Unreal Engine was released like 2 weeks ago. Before Nvidia released the plugin, devs would have to contact Nvidia and work on it together to get it to work, and thats why they haven't done it yet. But now there's no reason not to add it.

The DX12 Ultimate Mesh Shaders are a lot hader to add, and takes way more work, but they should really think about it.
