  • Facing The Wraith feels exactly the same way as in the normal game mode (in other words, he's just as tedious. Not a big fan of this Killer).

Survivor is essentially impossible to play when you can't see any loops, structures or tiles.

Sound is more important in this game than I realised. Since it's the only information available to players (and I don't use headphones to play for my own reasons), I've struggled to find gens or track Survivors in this mode. So I've come to realise that hearing sound is probably a big advantage in the main game as well.

Outside of increasing an invisible MMR ranking that I'll never see, winning at DBD doesn't mean all that much and offers you no reward for doing well. But for a substantial part of the player base, winning by any means necessary is what's fun to these players. Adding a silly time limited casual mode like Lights Out to the game won't do anything to change the attitude of these players. Some players will use any advantage that they're given, regardless of the original intentions of the game mechanic. Reducing visibility was meant to make the games feel spookier, but some Killers only used the mechanic to camp and tunnel more effectively.

Lights Out is probably a lot of fun to play with friends, but for me it was Solo Q on hard mode with all the frustrations that come along with that. So I've come to appreciate med kits and self healing perks even more so than I did before (I was only lucky enough to find one med kit in any of the games that I played). I'm going to be a Self-Care enjoyer for life now.

  • I've enjoyed it. I've not really been playing to win though, so I've had quite a few 4E games. I don't use headphones, so this mode is actually more difficult than the standard game to me. Winning means nothing in this mode anyway. It's been disappointing to see so many Killers tryharding in my Survivor games.

What I've enjoyed most so far: Playing Deathslinger and literally taking a shot in the dark at a gen in the hope of reeling in a Survivor or two. I've done it a few times so far and it never gets old.

Yoinking Survivors off gens as any Killer like you're a tier 1 Myers is always fun too.

  • I don't think I'm all that sweaty and I almost never BM (I might give a quick slap on hook if an especially annoying Survivor can't stop teabagging me for no reason).

Define sweaty. Everyone has a different idea as to what sweaty means. I've gone against teams that the MMR definitely shouldn't have put me up against and I can't imagine they had a good time. But for me, I was just playing normally.

I get relatively few DC's for a Legion main, if that means anything.

  • I think it is a fun mode, personally. Definitely brings back the fear. But the "fun" is heavily dependent on the way the Killer plays much more so than in regular DBD. If they decide to take full advantage of their undetectable status to camp hooks and tunnel someone out, it's an easy 4K for the Killer and there's very little the Survivors can do about it.

I think they could make simple improvements to address some of the problems with it. Maybe Kill switch the Legion (because their power gives them far too much information). Maybe remove the notification for Killers when a Survivor is saved from the hook, so they don't feel incentivised to returns to hooks (although this would probably just lead to more proxy camping instead). Definitely remove de-pipping for both sides. I had my fun spoiled by some de-pips just because I got tunnelled out or didn't get enough sacrifices. There's no reason for this mode to count towards grade progression. It just makes games more likely to be sweaty. Maybe Survivors could also not bleed for as long as base-kit BT is active, so Killers can't track freshly unhooked survivors so easily before they've had opportunity to get away from the hook.

  • Not that much different to the Killers I typically face. So far I've had: Knight, Wraith, Legion, Trapper, Pig, Myers, Deathslinger, Nemi and Chucky.

Surprisingly not seen a Ghostface yet.

  • Hope you get Lery's? With only 4 maps available, they're more likely to have to play on it now.

Although I did quite well with a Bubba on Lery's, this map is quite a challenge for them. It definitely feels like a lot of fun to sneak up on Survivors with Killers that normally have next to zero stealth.

Playing the Hillbilly on the same map was a real struggle for me. Managed to get a 2K with him but it was hard work! Especially difficult to steer when you can barely see 10 feet ahead of yourself.

  • I say this as a Legion main, I think they should be disabled for this mode as well.

Their power gives them way too much information and in my opinion, too much of an advantage. Especially when evading the Killer is the main (and pretty much only) defense that Survivors can count on to help them to stay alive.

  • The mode itself is fun but the Killers playing it, not so much. I've had some good scares but sadly there's too much camping and tunnelling for my tastes. Even in a mode that's overwhelmingly in favour of Killers, many are still playing this way.

BHVR can change the game mode but unfortunately they can't change the player base. I think I'll stick to playing mostly Killer for this mode in future.

  • I assume the plan will be to develop other time limited modes like this that will return every so often in between tomes and events. Just to keep players coming back to the game whenever there's a couple of weeks lull between new content.

I think it will be a fun mode, but I can see the novelty wearing off fairly quickly.

@tjt85 asserts that 3-genning is the natural way to play Legion to the best of that killer's ability. I don't play much legion, but I can reason out why that is the case.

If a Killer who already struggles is having their most effective gameplay strategy removed, it is worth bringing to the attention of the developers.

I'm not necessarily here to argue good or bad against the changes. I'm observing what I believe to be an unintended nerf to survivors, but it is interesting to see which killers this specifically makes more difficult to play.

For the record, I do think it will still be possible to hold a 3 gen with Legion (and most other Killers if they chose to). Players will adapt. But it might require different perks and add-ons to do so more effectively (things like Hex: Ruin, Fuming Mix tape, Filthy Blade, Thantaphobia and gen blocking could become better options). But I tend to avoid these perks and add-ons because I find them to be tedious to go against in my Survivor games. Ironically, with these in play it might end up making 3 gen games even longer. Surge definitely doesn't feel like such a good choice for Legion anymore, though. It still won me the game in this case, but now has the potential to backfire on the Killer.

I do think Legion is a more versatile Killer than a lot of players give them credit. I could go for a full end game build instead and still do quite well. I'm more worried about the weaker area defense Killers (like poor old Trapper), because defending a cluster of gens with his set up is all he really has going for him. It's only because BHVR created 3 really strong area defense Killers that this has become a problem.

The main issue for me is that the solution should be there to deal with the most egregious examples of the 3 gen strategy. If I can get a kill before the Survivors break the 3 gen, then I know I'm free to commit to more chases, because a few more Kills will probably follow. I get bored and I don't want the game to last forever either. I do patrol a portion of the map (4-5 gens usually) but I don't "3 gen" from the start unless the Survivors are really interested in breaking it early. At present, I feel like the system has the potential to unfairly punish a Killer for patrolling a cluster of gens simply because they chose the "wrong" perks, especially so on the smaller maps. As Ghouled_Mojo points out, it's even punishing Killers that aren't defending a 3 gen.

I don't think the system should be rewarding Survivors for finishing gens without any consideration for a potential end game 3 gen. At the moment, it kind of does because the regression penalty begins to apply on all gens from the very start of the match. I understand why it was implemented this way, because if a Killer chooses to defend 3 gens from the very start, there has to be a way to punish them for it.

Hopefully BHVR will take some feedback onboard and make adjustments to the system.

  • I agree. I think it would make the perk more appealing to run for a lot more players. I definitely prefer flashbangs over flashlights. Maybe they feel it shouldn't work because flashbangs are easier to use than flashlights, I don't know.

But then, you don't get the extra speed value from the perk with a flashbang and it's not as if flashbangs have no counter, since they make a noise when you drop them and the Killer can look up or swerve it. I can count the amount of times I've successfully flashbanged a Killer in chase on one hand.

  • I genuinely think Billy is an S-Tier Killer now. Up there with Nurse and Blight. Whether or not he should stay there, I don't know. Most Killers can't really compete at the highest level, so maybe it's a good thing for those players to have another Killer to Vs.

When all the Billys have won so often that they'll be out of my MMR, I'll probably stop seeing him all that much. I think it's another case of over saturation, more Killer buffs this patch and a lack of Survivor interest in Alan Wake's perks that have created some uneven match ups between experienced Killers playing Billy again and not enough experienced Survivors returning to the game for them to play against. It's what always seems to happen whenever BHVR release a strong new Killer (or buff an old one), but don't give Survivors all that much in return. Everybody ends up dead at 5 gens 10 games in a row against the same Killer and it gets old pretty fast.

  • I've blinded the Killer exactly one time.

    It's a work in progress...

  • my-image(1).png

Here's mine. I don't have every Killer though and I likely won't ever unlock all of them. The next one I want to get is Pyramid Head.

Singu seems like too much effort for me. The bottom tier is reserved for Killers that I generally don't enjoy playing against as Survivor, so I will never play them for that reason (although I don't find Doctor too bad to face these days, I still don't really want to play as him).

  • My Favourites are all Susie's (which is why I'm a Susie Legion main).

Lethal Kitten Dress, the Angsty Artist knife and mask and her Christmas ugly sweater are all top tier. I'm looking forward to getting her Lunar New Year outfit too because it's one of their very best (it gets extra bonus points because I'm also a rat in the Chinese Zodiac).

Frank's glow in the dark Never Stop Slashing mask is really cool, as is his Drop Out outfit (their best cheap cosmetic imho). I also like Julie's Bush Party one. Makes her look extra Canadian. Hi Vis Horror is Joey's best but I don't currently own that one.

  • My initial feedback (reposted from another discussion):

    2024020223303100-A8F689A4F1F4B13D795ABCBD615FFD9A.jpg

I experienced the new anti 3 gen feature in action yesterday (a Legion match on RPD). The Legion are a great killer to test this feature out because forcing Survivors to be near to each other by holding a 3 gen and winning the battle of attrition is really the only thing they excel at (they have several add-ons to help with this: Filthy Blade, Fuming Mixtape and Frank's Mixtape). They are a very weak Killer, otherwise.

RPD is (or at least used to be) a very good map for Legion. It's relatively small and often spawns close together and easy to defend gens. In this match, I got two in the main hall and a couple in nearby rooms.

This was a close game against a flashlight squad that could have gone either way. They played exactly as you might have expected, making far too many flashlight/sabo/body blocking attempts and it cost them the win. I think I would have lost against a more gen focused team. They had 2 gens almost ready to pop and as you can see from this image, I had already burned through all my regression events on this gen (luckily I had secured my first kill just in time):

    2024020223224800-A8F689A4F1F4B13D795ABCBD615FFD9A.jpg

Here's what I've learned so far:

    • The 3 genning strat has definitely been nerfed. But it's still possible to defend a 3 gen even if you can't regress a gen anymore.
    • It feels more important than ever to secure an early kill, now that I know I won't be able to fallback on defending a 3 gen situation.
    • Surge has been nerfed with this update. Hitting multiple gens in a small area is what it does best, but maybe not so much now. It was scary how quickly it burned through all my regression events on a gen. I'll probably keep using it, but I think plenty of other Killers will opt more for passive slowdown or gen blocking now.
    • It has impacted "normal" Killer game play for me. This time I won, but I might have to rethink my strategy if I start losing games. Overall, I'd say it's a nerf to Killer (with gen tapping gone and extra regression as a fair compensation).

  • Iron Grasp and Lightborn (always equipped on all killers, Billy is no exception).

BBQ & Chilli (on PC), with the last slot being either Agitation/Enduring/Tinkerer/No Way Out depending on how I feel.

Similar build on Switch, but swap out BBQ for Bitter Murmur (because I have no other aura perks on Switch). Edit: I'd forgotten I had Nowhere to Hide, due to the kill switch. That might be good on him too.

For add-ons, just the two brown boot ones.

  • I've had the chance to play some new Billy on Nintendo Switch, too.

I honestly think he is the third strongest Killer in the game right now, regardless of the platform. Granted, I must be at very low MMR with him since I hardly played this Killer before the buff, but I can't seem to lose with him right now.

(Yes, it does get easier. I don't feel any real difference between PC/Switch and I use a controller for both)

Thalita. All of her perks are trash. Ace and David are strong contenders though because Ace has 3 perks that do nothing and David has no mither which sabotages the entire team.

I used to think Ace had the worst perks but Open handed + Kindred + Bond are a fantastic combo. Add in Alert and you basically know the location of everybody pretty much all the time.

I've recently started using Friendly Competition. I never thought much of it before but believe it or not, I see it at least once a day on a random in SoloQ. I thought I'd give it a shot and with other repair perks, it's not bad.

The only one of hers that I think has potential is Cut Loose. It needs a buff to be useful though. 6 seconds is not long enough to chain together a bunch of vaults on most maps.

  • What is "bad" Internet though? When is it more accurate to say there's a "ping difference" as opposed to "bad ping"?

I tend to get about 60 ms on PC and 80 ms on Switch (don't know why they are slightly different, because I'm playing on the same Wifi network. There's only me and I make sure nothing else in the house is using the internet when I play).

I know if I ever got matched up with a well known DBD streamer, they would definitely whinge endlessly about my "bad ping", even though the game is still perfectly playable at that ping in my opinion.

  • I don't think Thalita has a single good perk. Everyone else has at least one perk that I would use.

  • Are badges and banners going to be replacing charms in future Tomes and Rifts? Not a great change in my opinion. I personally couldn't care less about the badges and banners.

I don't mind them replacing those pointless throw away Rift charms, but to only get a badge for finishing the first level of the tome is pretty poor. I hope it's not all badges and banners, because I won't be grinding my way through future tomes for any of those.

  • Firstly, I want to say thank you. I'm very happy to see this feature be added to the game. I also suffer badly from motion sickness when playing first person games, so I know how horrible it can be.

But for me, the trigger is a wide field of view and not a narrow one, as is the case for others. The default FOV of 87 is fine for me and it makes DBD one of the few first person games that I can actually stomach playing for any great length of time.

However, I would like the text that accompanies the FOV slider to be a bit more clearer in stating that increasing the FOV may also trigger feeling of nausea. It already does this to a degree, but could be more explicit in my opinion. I've found that I can no longer watch any Killer content on streaming and video sharing platforms, because every streamer now has the FOV set to the maximum.

They may by doing this for accessibility reasons, unaware that some of their viewers won't be able to enjoy watching their content anymore.

  • I almost never ever lobby dodge.

Although there are definitely some times that I've wished I dodged a lobby or two. Some examples:

On Survivor, if there are two or three very high prestiges in the lobby, I know the Killer will probably be top tier and very likely prepared to sweat. I've obviously been put in a SWF lobby where I do not belong just to make up the numbers.

If the matchmaking is instant, I also get very suspicious. I suspect the matchmaking is not even trying to find fair matches at this point and is just grabbing anyone in queue. Basically, one side is in for a very bad time.

I don't usually dodge TTVs, but I do feel a bit apprehensive going against them as Killer. I have no interest in being "content" and in my experience, they're more likely to be my least favourite kind of Survivor (but my build is ready for bully squads, so I don't dodge if I'm playing as my main). I might dodge a TTV lobby if I'm trying to learn a new Killer, though. I don't dodge obvious couples with weird creepy/cringe usernames, but maybe I should. Eww. But I will dodge any Survivor with an offensive, evil or disgusting troll bait name.

I should probably also dodge any Mad Hatter Aces or bunny Fengs, just for my own sanity. Those guys are the devil's spawn.

  • He feels worse to play against than a Blight, Spirit or a Nurse, because at least they still have to hit you twice. I'm kinda missing those guys right now. I actually think he might be on a par with the other top tier killers now, or at least not far off.

I've honestly had some of the worst Survivor experiences of my DBD career against new Billy. Everyone slugged out or dead at 5 gens with only a few thousand BP to show for it (and of course, every Billy's equipped strong gen perks like Grim Embrace, DMS, Pain Res and Pop). It's misery.

But on the other hand, old Billy was so awful that I barely ever played as him (Neither did anybody else. Billys were pretty rare). The part of me that enjoys the Killer side of the game is really happy that he's so much fun now. So from that perspective, I'm hesitant to call for any nerfs at this point.

I think Survivor morale in general is pretty low at the moment. We've had Killer buff after Killer buff. Even this new "Survivor" chapter is all about the Killer buffs. When are BHVR going to add something for Survivors that will have a meaningful impact to the game? Sure, we've got DC bots now, but unhappy players die on hook instead of DCing because the penalty's still very harsh (and they seem to get dumber with every update). There's the AFC system, which is a great addition but I've only had it trigger in 2 of my games so far. And finally, we have the 3 gen solution which again, feels like a good change but it's too early to judge as I've yet to see it come into play.

  • It's rough to go up against the kinds of Survivors you might normally get with your main, but it doesn't typically take too long to get the hang of using a new Killer's power in my experience. If the games are ending too quickly, just slap on 4 slowdown perks and focus on chasing Survivors. Forget about defending gens or winning until you feel like you know what you're doing.

I'm lucky enough to be at a low enough MMR to get a fair amount of inexperienced Survivors, though (even with my main I'll still get players with only 25 hours to their name sometimes). So I get to play a couple a games where nobody really knows what they're doing and I can practice my power without worrying about the gens popping too quickly.

New Billy's power is really fun to use, so it hardly matters to me if I win or lose. The only frustration for me is losing a grade pip when I do badly. Definitely makes me not want to practice a new Killer if I have pips to defend.

  • I'm keeping it at the default. Anything higher makes me feel queasy.

  • I didn't even know Alan came with a charm, so it was a pleasant surprise. I suppose I should have expected one, since chapters usually come with a charm.

Technically, it will be an exclusive charm when the rift closes, since it will be only way to get it. And it's not like anyone is getting it for free, because you still have to buy the rift pass.

I believe during the stream they said the outfits not only were coming back, but they were going to be available permanently.

Oh cool! That's some good news at least. It's still a shame there's no event, but understandable given that the Lights Out mode will be taking its place. I was looking forward to playing my first Lunar New Year event.

  • I did, though if I hadn't recently played Alan Wake and Alan Wake's American Nightmare just to find out who this guy is, I definitely would have given this chapter a miss. I like the character, but his perks don't really appeal to me.

I've been using them anyway because it's new content. Plus, Champion of Light has given me an excuse to throw all my games trying to learn how to finally use the 100+ Flashlights that I've got saved up on Meg, Dwight and Ripley.

(I'm kidding. I only use it as a desperate last effort to stay alive. I just hope I can run into a chill Killer that will let me practice some time)

  • I can. Anything in the third person is generally fine for me. When I play as Chucky, my brain is watching a fixed object (Chucky) as it moves on the screen, so the wider FOV is not such a problem. He also doesn't move that fast most of the time.

But if the Killer is in the first person view, my brain is tricked into thinking that it's actually me that's moving even though my inner ear knows otherwise, hence the sickness. With the increased speed and FOV, the surroundings pass by more quickly and I can obviously see more of them. But the focused view point of the original FOV cuts all of that extra stuff out, so I don't get so sick.

I'm not sure I've explained all that so well, and I don't fully understand it myself. But I hope that makes some sense to you.

  • The illusion of "faster" speed and wider view unfortunately means that I get motion sickness if I increase the FOV.

Which also means that I can't watch streamers playing Killer anymore, because of course they've all got the setting maxed out. Obviously, this isn't as bad as not being able to play Killer at all without equipping shadowborn and I'm very glad BHVR have added this accessability feature for the players that need it. But I wish content creators would be mindful of the fact that increasing the FOV will cause some of their viewers to experience the same kind of nausea that the feature was added to alleviate in the first place!

Anyway, just putting that out there as a PSA for any streamers that might visit the forum. Maybe a good idea to consider setting the FOV somewhere in the middle.

  • Will previous years cosmetics be coming back to the store at least? Be a shame if they don't return. I really want Susie's year of the rat outfit.

  • It really is such a huge difference. I got my first ever 3k with him today (on Lery's with no regression perks, if you can believe that). He honestly wasn't much fun before this patch. There was a challnge with him during the anniversary tome that needed you to get a 4K. I tried half a dozen times but every game was a 0K. It was sad.

0K with the obligatory teabags at the gates will probably still be the norm for me, but I'll definitely be playing a lot more Billy games in future just because he's so much fun now.

  • Surely there has to be a Legion skin some time in the future?

It's kind of wild to me that they're not getting an Iron Maiden cosmetic. I mean, they literally have a perk called Iron Maiden and their chase theme is heavy metal.

  • I don't hate it, but I don't understand why they changed it either. It was fine how it was.

  • Mikaela has some cool cosmetics but I don't think much of her perks. I think it very much depends on how you like to play.

Other than Feng, Zarina and Kate, you might consider Jeff, Adam, Felix or Yui.

Distortion from Jeff is very good if you like to be Stealthy. Adam has Deliverance if you want to be more self sufficient in Solo Q, since it lets you unhook yourself (Diversion is a silly but fun perk as well). Felix has Built to Last if you like to bring items to the trial. His other decent perk Desperate Measures is good for a healing build, especially if you face a lot of Legions or Sloppy Butcher Killers. And Yui has Lucky Break which is an underrated perk in my opinion, very good for stealth builds.

  • Before bots were added, I used to just farm with the remaining Survivors. But now that I know the Survivor who didn't want to play could have given us a bot instead, I feel less obligation to farm and I just play normally (giving the last Survivor hatch as a I usually do). If the other Survivors are unhappy about it, then they can blame the player that noped out.

Sometimes I might eat a DC penalty if two players give up immediately and the game is a total lost cause, then we can all go next (would depend if I have a DC penalty to spare and how long my ban would last for).

Personally, I think the DC penalty should be a bit more lenient now that bots are in the game. I know that's not a popular opinion, but I'd take a bot over some team mate that just wants to go next any time.

  • I play on both PC and console and I strongly suspect most of my opponents on PC are console players. I know the little globe can mean that they're on Epic or Microsoft, but I still think most of the time I'm playing console gamers (the loading times are a tell. If everyone is on PC, the maps load very quicky).

So for that reason, I don't think they would ever split the player base. PC queue times would go through the roof.

In my opinion, it's choppy / lower frame rates that make playing on console so much more difficult. I play with a controller on PC too and the difference is night and day. The game needs better optimising for the various consoles (especially the older platforms). This would do more to close the gap than anything else.

  • Assuming the MMR system is functioning as it should (it probably isn't) and it's managed to put together a fair match:

I'd say it's Killer sided Vs a disorganised and varied Solo Q team...

But Survivor sided if the Killer is facing a co-ordinated SWF.

All things being equal, I think a SWF on comms should have the upper hand because they can break the game's balance completely. There are only two Killers in the game that can actually stand up to a strong SWF (and even then, they must be high level Killer players). All a half way decent SWF has to do is sit on 4 different gens at the start of the game and be above average skill at looping. In 90 seconds the game will be almost over. Most Killers on the roster won't be in with a chance against that unless they play dirty or bring a full endgame build.

  • I'll need to play a lot of trials when the change goes live to know if it really will effect normal game play for me. I tend to get a lot of my Killer wins (as a Legion main) from exploiting a self-inflicted / RNG spawned 3 gen situation, so I'll definitely find out pretty quickly if I need to run stronger gen regression or slowdown perks to compensate for the new limits. I don't want to become a thanatophobia Legion though, so I hope it never comes to that.

One possible positive could be that Killers will feel the need to bring less regression perks, since dry kicking a gen will actually be more worthwhile doing now. So we might get a bit more perk variety overall. It will also help newer Killers that have no access to decent regression perks now that Surge/Jolt is no longer a general perk.

But I suspect that at higher MMR, pop and pain res will still be plenty enough regression to win a majority of trials for the more competitively minded Killers. So none of these changes will really make all that much difference to them. Lots of high MMR Killers don't ever kick gens unless they have pop.

  • I'm more hyped for him now that I've finished a playthrough of his first two games. Really enjoyed them and I can see why he's such a good fit for DBD.

But his perks don't appeal to me all that much. I wouldn't personally get much use out of them (except maybe his boon one in Solo Q). I think champion of light will be a common pick for all the wannabe bully squads and I'd be concerned about it if I wasn't already a die hard lightborn enjoyer.

I'm not sure if I like the character enough to buy him, if I'm honest. A Barry Wheeler legendary skin wearing fairy lights and a head torch would be all kinds of awesome, though.

  • If it's early game and there are plenty of resources still on the map, I'd say it's probably a waste of time. But if it's later on in the match and I'm thinking more about defending a smaller area of 3-4 gens, then it's not the worst idea to reset and heal up, unless you have a couple of gens almost ready to pop.

In a potential 3 gen situation, the Legion's power grows stronger, but they still have to juggle chasing with defending gens and they still can't get a fast down with their power. So having to chew through an extra health state to get a down might discourage me from committing to a death hooked survivor, especially if there's an easier target to chase. In the late game, you want pressure and you want it quickly. If I can take an opportunity to dump someone out the game I will, but even a first hook on an injured Survivor can still make a difference.

I guess it depends on how strong the Legion is and how well the match is going for the Survivors. If a weaker team with poor gen pressure is playing against a less experienced Killer, they might be better off healing more often (in a safe part of the map outside of the terror radius). But an efficient team with good looping skills that's spread out across a big map, they could probably get away without healing all game. I don't think there's a right or a wrong answer to be honest.

  • I wish Killers wouldn't try to force a 4K like this.

I've had games where they'll camp the slug for a 4K and I always wonder what I'm meant to do in this situation. If I go pick up the slug, I give the Killer what they want and reward stinky behaviour that I don't want to encourage, or I stay away and hide until the other Survivor bleeds out. I hate doing so, but what else can you do if the Killer refuses to progress the game by hooking the downed Survivor? Obviously, the Killer is the one that's wasting everyone's time, but it still feels bad to let the other Survivor bleed out like that.

I did have a Feng try to lead me to an extra stealthy Bill once. Seriously, this guy was a total ninja. I did not see them all game. I don't blame her though, since he let the rest of his team take the heat and die. I don't know what I would have done if I'd found him, to be honest. I just wanted to confirm if he even existed (if you're wondering what happened, I eventually got bored looking and decided to throw hatchets into the sky, he eventually got the last gen done and then escaped. I let Feng go too).

  • The charms I use tend to differ from character to character, since I like to make themed builds if I can. Obviously, Ripley/Alien has to have the Tracker charm, Sadako her cursed video tape and Well charms etc.

I love the Necronomicon charm especially though, so that's pretty much always equipped to every Killer and Survivor I own. I also like the various bird ones and the recent Halloween event cat charms, so they get a lot of use as well.

  • My biggest issue with the system is the way that it seems to fail Solo Q survivor players the most. If I play early in the day, I end up in a lobby full of Survivors that don't touch gens and/or are somehow even worse in chase than I am. If I play late in the day, I end up in a high MMR SWF lobby Vs a sweaty Killer that's obviously been matched to their MMR and not to mine. In both situations, there's very little prospect for my escape.

I find a 100% BP incentive to be in place for almost the entire day. While I'm not entirely certain about this, I take this to mean that the system will be less interested in making fair match ups and more interested in making quick ones. So if a 5K hour Blight with a sweaty build has been waiting for nearly 5 minutes to play and I just happen to be queuing at the same time, there's a chance I might end up in their lobby simply because the system needs to find someone for them to play against.

Solo Q Survivors endure the most lopsided match ups of anyone in the player base and I think MMR is to blame for this.

  • I got most of my fun from my early days playing the game from being terrified out of my wits. Nobody should expect to survive any of their first games. But yeah, ideally the game would only match new players with other new players, but I don't think DBD has a big or active enough player base.

It's probably still better for new players to queue up with other new players (or at least to Solo Q). I think the MMR system goes by the strongest players on the team and matches the Killer accordingly.

Maybe an idea to start a new account if you can so you can play with newer players and hopefully get newer Killers?

  • My anecdotal findings from my own solo games are that I escape between 20% and 30% of the time (as a very average player with an inconsistent skill level and some wildly variable teammates).

So on average I might expect to escape 2 or 3 times for every 10 games that I play. If I played for the hatch and brought a build for it, I'd probably escape more often though.

  • I have a couple of solo builds that I like to rotate (I prefer to mix things up a bit from game to game):

    My "serious" build:

Deja Vu or Resilience + Self-Care + Botany + Sprint Burst

My serious build is for playing a bit more competitively or trying to pip up. All four perks are chosen because they help in each emblem category. They also counter common Killer perks and strategies that I hate to go up against (Sprint burst for anti-tunnelling, Resilience for Sloppy Butcher and Self-Care for heals to counter Franklin's Demise). I think it's always a good idea to have a build to deal with the more frustrating aspects of DBD (whatever those may be for you).

    My Fun build

This is just a mix of fun perks that make me chuckle, really. Perks like Head On, Flashbang, Blast Mine, Diversion, Chemical Trap all feature frequently. Plot Twist and Sprint Burst are usually the core perks in this build, so that I'm not a total liability to the team.

    My Info build:

    Open-handed + Bond + Alert + Kindred

I originally came up with this build because I thought it would be fun to spectate chases and see what my teammates were up to while sitting on a gen. But it's a surprisingly strong build, giving you a ton of info about the state of play, gen locations, who's in chase or injured, where the Killer is heading to next and even what perks they might have.
