  • You make some good points (especially about the medic class and the self heal skill).

Personally, I think the medic class should also get boosted self-healing abilities (like self-care + botany speeds). As it stands, this class benefits only the team and not so much the player running it. Boosting the healing speeds of others is helpful, but not everyone will stick around to heal you up, anyway.

I rarely see medics in my games, so I think something needs to be done to make the class a bit more appealing.

  • I've already had my fill of the Survivor mode, tbh. It was fun while it lasted, but I just keep thinking about how much more fun I'd be having if I could be patient enough to queue up for a Killer game. I don't think offering even more BP would get me to play much more Survivor at this point, tbh.

It's just way more fun to play Killer in this mode and I'm not sure what BHVR could really do about that.

Maybe players could pick their preferred Killer / Survivor class and the Entity could then assign the Killer roles at random, kind of like in the Friday the 13th game.

  • There's a huntress in every game. And I mean every game.

I wonder how much of the extra queue time is down to almost everybody wanting to play Huntress?

  • @Rawrbot5k said:

Possible way to amend the queue times. Killer players choose at the same time. RNG Priority pick first, so person A. gets to pick first, then person B. gets whats left. Then the next game person B. may or may not get priority picking up to the RNG gods. At least it will make game queues go faster for popular picks. I personally dont care really which killer i get to play as long as i get to try it out a few times.

That's not a bad idea. I wonder if making the choice of Killer totally random might speed things up a little, too. I wouldn't play as Nurse or Wraith by choice, but I'd be fine with it if it meant for much quicker Killer queues.

But this could be a little over whelming if you're just trying out Killer for the first time ever because of the new mode. Imagine playing your first ever Killer game as Nurse. Oof…

  • It's not Survivor or Killer sided, imho. It's way too chaotic to say either way. I do think two competent Killers can tip the balance in their favour, however.

For what it's worth, I still end up dying in most of my Survivor games and of the 3 Killer games that I've been able to play so far, 2 were an 8K and one was a 4K. The skill levels of my teammates and opponents have been very variable. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, just an observation. I've even been able to loop Killers successfully and keep them busy in some of my games, which normally doesn't happen very often.

  • I think Billy is still really good in this mode. Especially if your teammate is getting lots of injuries, you can zip around the map and mop up. As always, he's still excellent at pressuring gens too. I was able to get 2 8ks with him when paired with a Huntress and a Trapper.

I do think his exposed range could be increased, though. 10 meters is not far enough to be consistently useful.

You realize they could significantly change their powers right? They heavily changed billy into being more of a support role. They could something similar to legion and plague.

Like, for example maybe plague infection doesn't damage them, just reveals aura periodically to the 2 killers. Or for legion they could do something like:

    • Feral slash no longer causes deep wounds
    • After hitting a survivor with feral slash, the aura of the survivor furthest from the legion is revealed while frenzy is active, hitting that survivor will refresh the feral frenzy duration and mark another survivor, hitting a different survivor will immediately end feral frenzy and give the survivor deep wounds.
    • Feral Frenzy now lasts 30 seconds
    • If all survivors are injured, the marked survivor is able to be downed.

Something like that would make legion heavy support, where you are injuring survivors but like 30 seconds apart.

I would be super disappointed if BHVR gave these powers to Legion for 2 Vs 8.

With 8 Survivors in the trial, there would be more opportunities to do what you rarely ever get to do in a typical trial, which is to get that elusive 5th hit down. Removing this aspect of their kit would kill my desire to play as them tbh (and I'm a Legion main).

Maybe they could do a kind of Susie's mix-tape / Never Sleep Pills combo into one power? Frenzy starts at base speed, lasts for 20 seconds and gives you an Increased Killer Instinct detection range. I think they'll definitely need extra duration, since the maps are absolutely huge.

The saddest thing for me about Legion in this mode is the rule that you can't both play as the same Killer, meaning that I'll never be able to team up with another member of the gang. Legion are not a well loved Killer among the community, so facing two of them at the same time is unlikely to be well received, but oh boy it would be so cool if BHVR could make this possible.

  • huntressDC.jpg

Does this mode have Killer bots!?

I think this might be a visual bug on the scoreboard , because I didn't see the Huntess toward to end of the trial. Less Hillbilly, more billy no mates (sorry).

I'd love to be able to tell you guys what I think of playing Killer in this mode, but I'm still waiting… Survivor is fun and all, but I think we can all agree that the main appeal of this mode is the Killer tag team aspect.

Edit: OK I finally got into a game as Billy. I can definitely see why he's not instadown in this mode because he would be OP! His extra turn rate is just chef's kiss. Got an 8K with a Trapper and it felt super satisfying to tag team Survivors. No wonder the queues are so long, this mode is much more fun playing as Killer.

  • @Coz said:

Wait time for a match if you are killer is pretty dreadful! Not much fun to be had waiting 10 mins for a match up!

Same experience. I've not played a single Killer game yet because the wait times are so long I get bored and go back to the Survivor queue.

  • To be honest, I think there's something to be said for limiting the mode to 5 Killers in the first iteration.

Take Legion in the Lights Out mode. I was way too easy for Legion to find Survivors with their power and they also have some very dark cosmetics, making it near impossible to see them coming. Legion sucked all the fun out of that mode, imho.

What might be a "fun" combo to Killers could be hell to face for Survivors. In a worst case scenario, players might quickly figure out the best performing duo and that's all Survivors would ever face from that point onward. It would be just like how Lights Out quickly became all Bubbas (since he's very quiet) and Legions.

Do you have to put the codes in on your Switch though? Or can you use them on your new platform without bothering with the Switch?

I'm not sure. But I assumed it probably wouldn't work, so I didn't try the code on PC. Cosmetics do transfer from the Switch to elsewhere though, so it's all good.

I only used the code to unlock his trousers, since I'd already unlocked the other two cosmetics as Twitch drops. I haven't checked if the last cosmetic is available on my Steam account, but the complete set is all there on my Switch account. I'll let you guys know if the cosmetic unlocked with the code isn't on Steam but I don't imagine it won't be there.

  • Much appreciated, thank you!

And the code still works even if you have cross progression enabled for another platform, which is sweet.

  • Playing DBD on Switch is hardcore mode, for sure. Doubly so if you play in handheld mode because the screen is so small and the Nintendo Switch is one of the least ergonomic consoles ever designed. They might be regarded as the kings of handheld gaming, but Nintendo have made some of the most uncomfortable to hold handhelds of all time. But it's still the best way to play on Switch if you want a decent frame rate. I find putting the joy cons in a grip and playing in table top mode to be the best compromise between performance and comfort but to be honest, I mostly play it docked and live with the frame rate issues anyway.

I'd love to see some of the better known content creators do a comparison of playing DBD on all the different platforms. Be interesting to see how well they cope with the shortcomings of the older platforms.

Coconuts RTS played a Survivor game and a couple of Huntress games on Switch when he was being held hostage by a hacker, but that's all I've been able to find on that front. That said, there are probably well known Streamers playing on Switch in the Asia region that I'm not aware of because of the language barrier.

P.S. I split my play time between PC / Switch and will continue to do so even after cross-progression. And I'll always be more comfortable playing on controller, regardless of the platform. Just can't get into mouse/keyboard gaming unless it's for an RTS or point and click adventure game.

This part of the FAQ makes me think that items, add-ons, and offerings won't be combined/accumulate. I have a lot of items, add-ons, and offerings on Steam and PS4/PS5. I want them to be added all together to a new sum if I enable Cross-Progression.

For example, on Steam, I have about 200 anniversary cakes on Legion. On PS5, I have about 500 anniversary cakes on Legion. If I merge my accounts, will I now have 700 anniversary cakes or just 500? (higher value being used)

You are correct about items, add-ons and offerings. It will just keep the highest value so yeah, all the things that you've collected on the accounts with the lowest numbers will be lost. I don't know why they decided not to combine everything into one big collection but it is what it is…

Out of curiosity, do you know if purchases made with Auric Cells for characters on the Switch will get shared in cross-progression? Not the Switch DLC but the in-game store.

I switched from the Switch to PC a few years ago. When I loaded up the Switch version, I forgot I had abandoned Auric Cells there that I never spent because cross progression didn't exist. Trying to figure out if I should use the remaining Auric Cells to purchase a cosmetic or if I can purchase some of the newer characters.

I can confirm that auric purchased cosmetics definitely do transfer from Switch to elsewhere!

But I'm not sure about characters purchased with auric, since I used Iri shards to buy most of my original characters (and the characters that I bought with auric were all duplicate licensed ones that I also wanted to play as on Switch).

  • Yeah, it's a paltry amount. I think it's fair to say they definitely could have been a bit more generous.

Sadly, I bought all of my duplicate content with auric cells on the Switch (instead of through the eShop), so I don't even get the 4500 shard compensation.

So, if I'm understanding this correctly, I'll have to rebuy characters like Doctor & Hag that were included for free on PS4? Or is it just because they were on Switch?

No, it's just a Switch thing (no DLC sharing on Switch). You should be good, I think.

But maybe you might, since they came with the game and might not be DLC… I'm not 100% sure.

  • Decided to take the plunge. Everything has worked just fine. It does not seem to regard Auric purchases as DLC. Mikaela, the Silent Hill Chapter, as well as any characters that came with the Switch version are still trapped over there. Everything else made it over to Steam (and vice versa), though.

The only negative is that I didn't get any compensation shards for the characters that I bought with Auric cells on the Switch, even though I've actually purchased them twice (on both Steam and Switch). Seems you only get the compensation if you bought them as DLC from the platform shop. Not a huge deal but a bit disappointing and I thought I should mention it.

thank you!! I also couldn’t find anything regarding time but it makes sense - so I’m guessing in the evening for UK.

    🟧🧸

My best guess would be 4 PM BST for us.

But I'm probably going to wait and see if there are any faults for BHVR to iron out before I go ahead and link my accounts.

  • I like to get value from my perks in every game too.

If you want guaranteed value, you can't really go wrong with Sprint Burst and Resilience. Even if the Killer doesn't chase you, Sprint Burst will get you from A to B a lot faster (and even make some last second hook saves possible). And Resilience is always helpful in a chase with the extra vault speed and great for those games when your teammates just don't want to heal you.

We'll Make It or Botany are good options for speedy heals, since you'll probably go for at least 1 hook save per game, you will get some value.

  • Sorry, but I'm getting on the first gen I see, safe corner gen or otherwise. I've played so many games when not even one gen gets done before somebody is dead.

I don't even care if we 3 gen. A 3 gen is still a better result than 90% of my Survivor games.

  • There are lots of questions unanswered, tbh. I have the same question for iri purchases too, since I have Jane / Felix / Yui / Elodie / Zarina and Mikaela unlocked on Switch but not on PC (I play more Survivor on Switch and more Killer on PC). I think I bought most of them with Iri shards, so they should be sharable across other platforms, right?

I also want to know if Auric Cell purchases actually count as "DLC". I've got cosmetics and one or two Survivors on Switch that I don't have on PC (Iron Maiden / Halloween T-shirts and charm bundles) and I wonder if they will be sharable.

I feel a bit like Nintendo will be shooting themselves in the foot on this one if Auric purchases can't be shared with other platforms. If this is true, I'll never have another reason to buy anything on the Switch again because it will always make more sense to buy things on my Steam account, since that stuff can always be shared elsewhere.

I do think character levels will carry over if you purchase them again on another platform, though. That counts as progression.

  • Personally, I'm looking forward to giving my Killer buddy lots of opportunities to get one hit downs by being a drift king Billy for most of the game.

I think this looks like a blast, even if it might be Survivor sided. I don't think these time limited modes are meant to be taken all that seriously, anyway. Some modes have been more fun than others and could use re-balancing when they return. But I think it's best to view these modes as experimental PTBs for trying out new ideas, except with the added bonus that we all get to join in.

BHVR really does not optimize their games. If I remember correctly, BHVR hires people without coding experience so they can teach them the BHVR way of coding in-house. I also don't think they go to professionals experienced with console ports to port their games over, meaning BHVR does it themselves and wings it, and we've experienced the results first-hand.

From what I know, DbD does not run well on PS4. I can play games that are much more demanding with no issues on my PS4 Pro, but I had to buy an external SSD for PS4 Pro to get DbD to run well. I'm pretty sure a big reason the game runs poorly is the visual effects. All that smoke, all the particle effects, I don't think BHVR bothers to keep those at a low res, even though they're unnecessary extraneous elements, and so the VFX cause my PS4's poor fans to go into louder-than-a-jetliner mode. That used to be a problem on the load-in screen before BHVR finally accepted that the uncapped loading screen fog was causing performance issues and they JPEG'd it. Another reason for the poor performance: There's a good chance BHVR is still using a lot of the code they started with, which means the game runs an enormous number of "if then" statements to determine what it should do, for example you press button "X" and now the game has to ask "Are you this killer? Are you this killer?" before getting to the right one and performing the correct action. The devs use better machinery to brute force the code, and performance degrades over time as the code becomes more monstrous with each update until once again better machinery is required simply because the game has grown larger even if the graphics and everything else remained the same.

I could be wrong, but this is the impression I've been given over the years of playing this game, reading the forums, seeing BHVR's job listings, etc. I'd love for anyone who knows differently to correct me if I am wrong, as I'm always interested in learning more, especially when it comes to why this game runs like hot garbage on many consoles when other games surpass it in graphics, performance, and number of players in a match on the same consoles.

While there are probably not that many Switch players left in the west

Amazingly, whenever DbD has had some Switch-specific problem and disabled Switch cross-play, I still got instant lobbies without repeat players. I'm on North American servers. I'm sometimes surprised by just how many other Switch players I see in my lobbies when cross-play is on.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure all those little fire effects on the wreckage of Nostromo map are the reason why it's so painful to play on. It's the one map I never, ever want to be sent to on Switch. I honestly wouldn't mind if some of the fancier visual effects were disabled, if that's really the only way to improve performance for the platform and reach a stable 30 fps. I do think the game would really benefit if BHVR hired a studio that specialised in PC to console ports to look over their code, but it probably wouldn't be worth the investment at this point. In any case, there are some miraculous PC ports for the Switch so I'm sure the game could run better than it currently does.

I live in the UK, which I think has a relatively smaller pool of players compared to pretty much everywhere else. So it's a rare but exciting experience to encounter another Switch player in the wild. I see maybe 1 every couple of months.

  • I really do hope this (and 2 Vs 8 mode) isn't a signal that BHVR are going to stop supporting the Switch soon. It will be quite a while before I upgrade to the new Nintendo console and doubt I'm alone in that respect. It probably wouldn't make great business sense to drop a huge install base for a what is likely to be a pretty small one (for at least a year or two, anyway).

While there are probably not that many Switch players left in the west, I bet it's a fairly popular platform in Japan where the Xbox may as well not exist and PC gaming isn't so popular.

Funny thing is, I'm not sure DBD should be having the terrible performance issues that it has on the Switch. Fortnite shares the same game engine, seems to be more demanding (at least to my layman's eyes) and yet is very well optimised for the console. But on my PC, DBD is flawless yet Fortnite ran so poorly I ended up uninstalling it.

I know BHVR doesn't exactly have the same resources as Epic, but surely the Switch version of the game can be improved beyond how it currently runs?

  • My question, which I don't think has been answered anywhere is; will our MMR rankings be shared across all platforms?

Survivor probably won't make a difference since I'm pretty bad regardless, but I do tend to play a little better as Killer on PC Vs Switch. I don't fancy making my games much harder on console since that's my "chill" DBD account, so might make more sense for me to keep my accounts separate. I don't think MMR does a great deal anyway, but I do get the impression my opponents are a little stronger on PC.

  • It looks that way…

"I have Dead by Daylight on Nintendo Switch, can I share progression and DLCs on other platforms now?

Cross-Progression for the Nintendo Switch will function slightly differently than across other platforms in the following ways:

    • Purchased Auric Cells are not able to be shared
    • Purchased DLC can be shared from other Platforms to the Nintendo
Switch, but players cannot share from the Switch to other Platforms."

    From the FAQ: https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/articles/28143341034644-Cross-Progression-Release-FAQ

It's not so bad for me, since I have Steam stuff that I can (presumably?) still share with my Switch account, but it's not great if you were hoping to move to another platform from the Switch and also move all your old DLC too.

  • I've had Killers take me to Haddonfield plenty of times since the rework too.

Killers actually picking Haddonfield to play on…

    Says it all, really.

If the game would be balanced aroud people DCing, we would have no game.

Some of the DCs i have seen :

Other team is putting a map offering = DC

Killer/SWF dont get the map they put as an offering = DC

    Fails at looping = DC

Dont like the killer = DC

Dont like the perks of the opposite team = DC

And i forgot some for sure.

Or put another way, we might have a better game.

    Like:

A removal or rework of map offerings.

Problematic perks being identified and addressed sooner.

Over-buffed Killers getting a justified nerf.

    A functional MMR system.

A means for Survivors to actually practice looping, just like the custom game mode for Killers.

An apparent lack of curiosity as to why players DC will do the game no good in the long run. Of course, I don't know if this is truly the case at BHVR or if this is just my impression, but it sure feels like there's a lack of interest sometimes.

But they do. You didn't even try reading what wrote. It's a seprate thing altogether that isn't part of the main data. Being seprate allows it to be looked at more closely to see why players DC and if it's for a legitimate reason like 45 minute Skull Merchant games or 20 minutes slugged or, was it because someone got tilted at the slightest thing?

I did read what you said. You missed my argument that games with a DC are probably not "outliers". They are regular games in so much as they are regular occurrences. But since they don't share the data on DC games or all games played, it gives the impression (fair or otherwise) that they don't take these games into account when making changes to the game (maybe it's just perception on my part). But there must be a data set at BHVR giving an accurate and full account of the escape and Kill rates for all games played. It's not enough to say Survivors escape 40% of the time (but only if we ignore x% of games). Because we as players experience the games that are missing in the reported data and can see that it doesn't match up to our own experiences.

If players DC a lot, that would suggest problems with the game that go way beyond players just getting "tilted at the slightest thing" (I'd look to the match making system and a lack of reward for team play as the likeliest probable causes). I think things that lead up to a DC are cumulative in nature, which is why I don't get too annoyed when they happen because I know that player's probably had 3 or more very bad trials in a row.

  • I don't harbour ill will towards any Survivors. I don't have the luxury since I'm a Meg main and I know how many players feel about us.

Mad Hatter Ace can get in the bin if I'm playing Killer, though. They're an absolute menace.

Leaving D/C matches out of kill/escape rate statistics doesn't imply that the matches are disregarded in some trash bin as a whole. The devs are very well aware of the common reasons players quit before the match ends and have stated so. However, a D/C match is an outlier compared to a regular game where no one quits because it's a wildly different situation where most players play completely differently or they don't play at. A 4v1 is now a 3v1 or the survivor automatically won by default because the killer left. It's an entirely seperate thing as a whole which is how it should stay so something can be learned from it, but if it's mixed in with everything else, then not only does it dilute data with outliers, but it then becomes more easy to go unnoticed which can lead to wild conclusions that aren't accurate to what's actually happening.

How do we know these games are outliers, though? For all we know, games that include a DC are almost as common as the ones that don't. Some Survivors will DC just before their third hook or a Killer will DC just before the Survivors get a likely 4E. So these were more or less still "regular" games from start to finish, yet such games won't make it into the statistics and nothing will be learned from them.

These things happen often enough in my games that I think it would be silly to ignore them. This is why I hope BHVR take a more nuanced look at the stats than it sometimes appears to us and will take into account all games played when making balancing decisions.

  • @Crowman said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3757584#Comment_3757584

If BHVR used trials were people D/C'd as a metric for their balance changes, it would incentive the community to D/C to get things nerfed.

Fair point. There's a lot of stats BHVR don't share, so perhaps they do track DCs rates internally and it does to an extent inform their decision making more than they would ever publicly admit.

  • I don't understand why BHVR have seemingly decided that nothing can be learned from trials that include a DC.

You'd think they would be more interested in finding out why such things happen with the regularity that they do and why such a large chunk of their player base is so unhappy.

I'd be willing to bet that after a string of poorly matched up trials, the chances of players DCing out of frustration increases dramatically (many seem to frame this as a "Survivor problem", but I've seen plenty of Killers do it too). How could BHVR ever discover if this is true or not if they discard every trial with a DC? It's as if they don't see frequent DCing as an accurate reflection of the experience of playing DBD (we all know it is).

  • It's like 1 whole minute of waiting (so long as nobody leaves). Personally, I use the queue / lobby to make a cup of tea or go for a bathroom break.

It's not a huge deal to wait for a minute, surely? Just spend some BP.

I've noticed a definite change in how people are playing Legion as opposed to, say, a year or two ago. People aren't chaining hits as much as they used to. I've seen several Legion players, literally over the last few days, frenzy hitting a survivor, then just. . . chasing the same survivor, losing frenzy, and going for the chase/hook, then they either slug for their kills in the late game or end up in a 0-1k situation. Like 40% of my recent Legion experiences have been played like an M1 killer. The other 60% (obviously I'm making up numbers, but it seems a little more than half of the time) people play Legion as it's meant to be played, by chaining hits and optimizing the ability, and they end up with a 3-4k.

I kind of feel like it's not a buff issue so much as a learning to play them efficiently issue? I could be wrong, without a doubt, and I haven't played a legit, non-farming adorable cat Susie Legion game in a long time, so I can only speak to what I see as a survivor.

It's possible the Legions you've faced don't know how to use their power efficiently. But it's also possible that in some trials Survivors knew the right counter play and in the others they didn't. If Survivors know how to play against a Legion they will split up and solo gens, pre run / evade the terror radius and delay mending if the Legion is in Frenzy. If Survivors do this, a Legion has very little hope of chaining hits and will only be able to chain 1 or 2 Frenzy hits before being forced into chase as a basic attack Killer for the next 20 seconds. If you can make a Legion whiff or stun them out of power, it's incredibly punishing. You can lose all your pressure this way and pretty soon you will lose the trial too. There's no other Killer in the game so severely punished for missing with their power.

Good Survivors will delay coming together until the final couple of gens. This is the point where the Legion's power can be strongest and they are at their most dangerous, but it's usually too late for them to make a come back in most cases. A decent Legion will use both strategies to be unpredictable and will try to chain hits where possible, but also sometimes drop out of power to chase (if it's the right play) and keep Survivors guessing.

I've argued this elsewhere, but I agree that Mischief List and Frank's Mix-Tape should become base-kit. These two changes will make chaining hits more possible against Survivors that know the counter play to their power, whilst not affecting Survivors that don't at all (since these Survivors group on gens together and rarely delay mending, even a base-kit 10 second Frenzy Legion will able to easily chain hits).

  • Nurse: Her power gives me nausea and I'm so terrible with her I'd have to play 50 embarrassing matches before I learned how to be half way decent with her.

Spirit: Sound is a big aspect of her power and since I don't like to use headphones when I play, I'd be at a big disadvantage.

Ghost Face: I've played against this guy so many times as Survivor and I'm honestly just sick to death of him.

Trickster: I used to enjoy playing this Killer, but I think he lost some of his character and now has very little counter play after his buff. Survivors never loved going up against this Killer beforehand, so the chance of someone DCing is higher and that doesn't feel good.

Hag: I don't like that she's 110. Also, I much prefer Trapper anyway. He's my go to set up based Killer.

Skull Merchant: I think I would probably enjoy playing this Killer, but her reputation and high DC rate puts me off spending the shards to buy her.

Doctor: I don't enjoy facing this Killer in my Survivor games for sensory overload reasons. But that's ok, because that's part of his design. I just don't like it.

Clown used to be on this list but since they lessened the visual effect of his bottles I don't hate him anymore. I am terrible with his bottles though, so if I do play as him I just put on the VHS and confetti add-ons and meme around. He's also really disgusting and I feel icky playing as him.

  • The sad thing is, to tunnel you only need to be able to count to 3. But rotating hooks between 4 Survivors to 8 hook everyone before somebody dies is obviously a little more complicated.

With everything else to keep track of, I gave up trying to 8 hook a long time ago. I simply don't have the mental bandwidth to spare when I'm playing Killer. Taking a green/ebony mori along can help you track death hook Survivors, but pretty soon with the upcoming finisher mori rework (please don't BHVR, I'm begging you), I won't even be able to use that.

  • I'd still use it if I was the kind of player to run an anti-tunnelling build (But I'm not and if the games are going that badly, I just stop playing).

I think that's what it's been redesigned to be. Paired with Off The Record, Sprint Burst and Decisive Strike, you could waste a lot of the Killer's time with this build. It's a good perk to run if you get matched up with a lot of Legions, so that could be the reason why some players are running it too.

  • Personally, I hope not.

I'm not at all familiar with his game series, but from what I gather he's just a bargain basement Indiana Jones. I think Lara's got that niche covered.

That is very true. However the communication aspect is good across the board wether it's 4 bad survivors or 4 awesome survivors. Being able to help each other out and know what you're team mates are actually planning to do/doing is everything. I love going against a good swf it test how well I can manage everything. Solo que wins are meh ATM but those good sweaty swf matches are so intense and fun for me at least.

Exactly. I don't know why notions of "good" or "bad" Survivors even come into the argument. If the game is supposed to have an MMR system, then skill shouldn't be a part of the discussion because (in theory), it should match Killers up with similarly skilled Survivors. For example, 4 bad Survivors should get a bumbling Ghost Face and 4 incredible ones should get a skilled Blight/Nurse/Billy.

Being able to play as a team in a game that's not really designed to facilitate fully co-ordinated team play is obviously an advantage at any level, given an equal skill level between either side.

  • My view is that being able to communicate and therefore actually play as an effective team is a huge, huge advantage for Survivors. Though there aren't many around these parts who agree with that viewpoint. As for whether or not it's technically "cheating", it's definitely not playing the game as the devs intended. Otherwise we'd have been given more in game ways to communicate beyond a grand total of two emotes.

Anyone who doesn't think it makes a difference to the trial hasn't played against a streamer with their 4 man SWF on comms and then watched their VOD back after the game. Because I assure you, it does. Most of them aren't using discord to chat about their day or joke around, that's for sure.

  • I doubt a 4K in one game against some bots would make that much difference to your MMR. Not unless you were already pretty close to being tipped into the next bracket.

Honestly, MMR is this game is a total crapshoot anyway. It's the only game I've played where you can be up against 50 hour newbies in one game and face a 20K hour opponent in the next. What time I play at seems to have more of an effect on the skill of my opponents than whether or not I'm winning or losing.

  • I'm going to pick two things because I can't choose between them:

Firstly, a better tutorial for new players. The current one is severely dated and explains very little about DBD's game play as it currently is. While it's great that Otz and others have produced some helpful guides for beginners, this really shouldn't be something that BHVR out source to some dude with a YouTube channel! It needs updating. New players are the future life blood of the game and they're currently being under served imho.

Secondly, a single player custom mode for Survivors to practice looping and map exploration. They don't need to implement AI for the entire roster, just a relatively simple Trapper bot would be sufficient. I have no idea how difficult or costly this would be to implement, especially for a bot that could play a reasonably human game. Maybe they could look to Alien Isolation for inspiration or it could simply patrol gens, set traps and chase? I don't know, I'm not a games programmer so I don't know what is and isn't possible. I'd even settle for a mode to explore maps without a Killer present. There must be something they could develop.

  • Got the final cosmetic for The Unknown on the very last day. I don't really enjoy playing the events because of all the sweat, so that was my only goal and I'm glad I finally got it done before the end.

  • I do this in my Survivor games too (chests and totems that is. I'm not daft enough to think it's a good idea to goad the Killer into a chase I'll probably lose, only to be left dangling on the hook by my teammates). It's Survivors trying to play a bit more chill, the equivalent of letting a team get a few gens done as Killer if you've got 6 hook states at 5 gens.

Of course, it's not always the case of wanting to be "nice" to your opponent. Sometimes they're just 99ing the last gen (or the gates) because they want to mess with the Killer for a bit before bagging at the gates for a "GG EZ" 4E.

  • You can still win with low mobility Killers. You just need to play a bit smarter and shrink big maps by only defending a cluster of 4 or 5 closer together gens and by choosing your chases wisely.

Granted, it's a lot harder to do since BHVR nerfed the 3 gen play style (thanks to Skull Merchant), but it's still possible to win. And there's always proxy camping hooks and tunnelling to fall back on if necessary. I'd rather lose than employ these two strategies, but they're there for the players that want to use them.

  • I really like this idea. I wish there were more tunes that it could play in general (I think there are maybe only two at the moment?).

I think it would be neat if you could play the Fear of the Dark riff if your Survivor is wearing an Iron Maiden t-shirt (but this probably wouldn't be possible due to licensing issues, sadly).

  • Male Survivor: Probably Jonah. I'm sure he has some good cosmetics in the store, but his default makes him look like a member of Smash Mouth and that is deeply uncool to me. The Guy Fieri look is just not my vibe at all.

Female Survivor: Easily Feng. I love her cosmetics but oh boy, I cannot stand to listen to her when she's injured. Where was 100% Iron Will when you made us play as her in tome 17, BHVR?

  • To be fair, if Lara was added to the game as a cosmetic for Meg or somebody else (like the R6 ones), I don't think anyone would've made a fuss.

But this is a chapter (albeit only a paragraph chapter), not a cosmetic. Players look forward to these, so when they turn out to be from an IP that's arguably a bit left field or questionable, you can't blame some of us for being a little bit disappointed.
