It’s not BHVR that forces you but the (missing) playerbase. You can’t really talk about force here.

the feature is there and you can use it. And all other platforms show that it is functioning.

The playerbase wouldn't be missing if BHVR didn't separate them from the other players on Xbox. If all crossplay did was fill in spots and speed up matchmaking when you need it I'd be fine, but as it stands you are just in a completely different pool.

So yes, BHVR is literally forcing me into crossplay by making it so I can't play with other people on my platform instead of doing what other game's do and prioritize your platform first, then fill in the rest with crossplayers.

How are you coming to that conclusion?

i am saying that crossplay turned on is the default mechanic and being able to turn it off is an optional feature.

An optional feature I can't use.

Therefore I am forced into crossplay.

  • @Mooks said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751249#Comment_1751249

At this point, being able to turn crossplay off is the optional feature, not the other way around.

the 4 day not able to play thing is another matter, THAT IS a valid complaint.

you want it off, everyone here knows that. You don’t wanna tell why. Okay, whatever.

you won’t get what you want. And BHVR is not at fault here. Why should they rework their whole crossplay mechanic for one single person? This does not make sense at all.

people were asking for your reasons because they wanted to understand you problem, not to bully or shame you. But you are coming off rather aggressive

"At this point, being able to turn crossplay off is the optional feature, not the other way around."

LOL so then you admit I am forced to play crossplay. Bravo. Not a bully at all.

    I did.

But it seems like your reasoning would break forum rules (or else i don't understand why you couldn't explain it) and that alone would be reason enough for BHVR to ignore your request.

I mean I literally can't turn off crossplay. If I do my game doesn't work.

  • @Mooks said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751204#Comment_1751204

Your actual complaint is unreasonable though. „I want crossplay off“ is not a complaint. You are demanding something, something you do not need to play the game.

the solution to your problem is super simple. Play with crossplay turned on until there is a bigger player base on your platform with crossplay turned off to find matches. It is that simple. Really. That Ash you complained about earlier may have been an Xbox player for all we know after all.

there is literally no problem, crossplay makes sure the playerbase is big enough even for new consoles to find matches fast.

    "I want crossplay off"

    Except that's not my complaint.

My COMPLAINT is that I have to turn on crossplay to play on the Xbox Series X. Even with other Xbox players.

My COMPLAINT is that this game was completely unplayable for 4 days after the Xbox Series X came out. This is like major #########, how this even got to release is unacceptable.

My COMPLAINT is that because matchmaking doesn't allow Xbox players with crossplay on to play with Xbox players that have crossplay off matchmaking times were seriously hurt on Xbox. I shouldn't be punished for not using an optional feature.

Why I want it off has NOTHING to do with my complaints. I want it off, it doesn't matter why, but I can't turn it off without being punished somehow.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751210#Comment_1751210

You can.Go to 'options' in the main menu and disable crossplay. That's it.

See,you should give BHVR a reason to change anything.

Just demanding something to get changed without giving a proper explanation isn't how this world works.

    I literally can't.

Read the thread next time please.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751174#Comment_1751174

A complaint is only valid if you give a valid reason for it.

The why SHOULD matter, because why would BHVR want to change it if it's already working fine?

Yea reason: I want crossplay off. I can't do that. That's it.

It's literally irrelevant to the conversation.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751162#Comment_1751162

    As @Kjetrr already said.

It's your fault that you didn't explain what your problem with crossplay actually is.

The beginning of the thread just makes you sound entitled because BHVR doesn't cater to the way you want to play the game.

IT. DOES. NOT. MATTER. WHY. I. WANT. CROSSPLAY. OFF.

It doesn't. End of story. Stop asking I'm not going to tell you. It has nothing to do with my complaint.

I want it off. I can't turn it off on Series X. And I'm punished for having it turned off regardless of the Series X issue. These last 2 shouldn't be things. I should be able to turn it off and not be penalized for it.

  • @Mooks said:

You are using the words ‚force‘, ‚shame‘ and ‚bully‘ but I don’t think you know what those actually mean..

and saying you would get banned for stating your true reasons doesn’t help your case either.

the Crossplay feature works as intended and you seem to be the only one to want it changed, and you get aggressive when people ask for the reason.

Dude just read this thread. Almost every new post is "why don't you want crossplay?" No one cares about my actual complaint. Like 2 people said something like "gee I'm sorry this is happening to you they should fix it/improve crossplay".

But yea you guys are totally not bullying or shaming me for wanting to play how I want. Nope not at all. Oh and you're also not bullying me to tell you why too, again irrelevant to the conversation.

  • @Kjetrr said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751146#Comment_1751146

I literally said, that most people don't care if *you* play with crossplay on or not.

If you think that people stating their opinions makes them the 'thought police' maybe going on a forum for *discussions* isn't the best choice.

Also, when you only give vague (and overdramatized; as if your reason would be so outlandish that you would get banned) reasons for your complaint, people will ask questions.

    1) This is not about people caring if I play with or without crossplay. IDGAF. I want it off. Period. Right now I CANNOT TURN IT OFF because I need it on to play on Xbox Series X. Which means I'm literally forced to play with it on. Also (normally) because I can't match with other Xbox players that have it on, it just shrinks my player pool and makes my wait time longer. I am therefore forced to play if I want to find games sometimes regardless of my Series X issue.

    2) Nearly every single person in this thread has responded to my not wanting crossplay on instead of actually reading my comment and understanding the situation. Again IDGAF what you think, I want it off. I can't do that. Yet everyone wants to question why I want it off and shame/bully me for it and make assumptions about what I said about players on other platforms. The WHY shouldn't matter, my complaints are valid. The game should prioritize matching players on the same platform and only use crossplay if necessary to fill slots faster.

    3) Again my reason shouldn't matter. I'm keeping them vague because if I actually said what I was thinking I'd get banned. Not gonna even bother when it's not even the point of the conversation.

The fact you don't want to play against PC players is one thing, but also not PS4/5 players? (that part is extra friggn weird, as console players all have controllers and are on same page) The reason is so terrible you would get banned. Literally the weirdest thing I've read this week, and I've read ######### the president of the U.S has said in the past 7 days.

    @Hopesfall said:

I don't really understand why if I turn it off, I can't be matched with other Xbox players that have it on? Why do both sides require it to be turned off to matchmake? Has a dev ever explained what the tech limitation there is?

WHY DOES IT MATTER WHY I WANT IT OFF?

I should be able to turn it off, for one, on Series X and I shouldn't be penalized for having it off normally with longer wait times. It should prioritize your own platform first and only crossplay if it needs to.

The fact so many of ignore what my actual complaint is and instead focus on "why you no crossplay?" instead is why I turn off crossplay.

  • @Kjetrr said:

Uhm... nobody is bullying you. They have given their opinion.

Sorry for being so blunt, but I don't think anyone here cares that much about whether you play with crossplay or not to bully you.

And nobody is forcing you. You can decide freely if you want to activate it, or not.

You haven't given any good reason why you don't want to play with PS/PC players and stereotyping them doesn't count, because honestly, there are a lot of negative stereotypes associated with XBOX players as well and that still doesn't make me not want to play with them.

Also, complaining about peple choosing to crossplay because it makes YOUR player pool smaller?Yeah, ok.

    Why does a reason matter?

This is exactly what bullying is. You are being thought police by telling me I can't think how I want or play the game how I want.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751127#Comment_1751127

    You didn't?

"Yes, exactly. But as a Series X player I'm forced to play with potatoes and trolls instead."

    Literally what you said earlier.

I still never said I was better. Some players though do very stupid things, and it's consistently the same stupid thing based on the platform. Has nothing to do with skill and everything to do with people doing their own thing and not thinking about the overall effect they have on the game.

You didn’t use the words ‚better‘ or ‚worse‘ but you pretty much said that. Yes.

No I didn't pretty much say that actually.

You assumed that from my tone, which I'm angry because of my situation not because of other players.

  • @Volfawott said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/206257/bhvr-thanks-for-forcing-me-into-crossplay

I don't think you know what the word forcing means.

If you can opt out of it at anytime you want with the simple click of a button you're not forced into anything.

It people don't care enough to take it off that's not behaviour probably if you don't want crossplay on that's all well and good but you have to deal with longer lobby because you're encountering a lot that people.

Gee considering that I can't play on Xbox Series X without turning ON crossplay is kinda forcing me to play crossplay. I literally have to crossplay with other Xbox players. The fact the game even launched in this state is unacceptable. Don't even mention the C word.

Also the fact that more and more people are switching over makes my non-crossplay pool smaller and smaller over time, which eventually means the only way I can ever find a game is to turn on crossplay. In other words I am FORCED to turn it on to play.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751120#Comment_1751120

    Am i wrong?

You complain about crossplay being forced and that players from other plattforms play worse than yours even though the real issue is that we don't have a proper MMR system yet/bad matchmaking.

Did I ever say they play worse than me or that I'm a better player?

No I didn't. You assumed and then shamed/bullied me for wanting to play the game how I want.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751090#Comment_1751090

Crossplay has been a highly requested feature over the years, and it makes far more sense to have it on by default than to have it off, given that you can't really match players who have it off with those who have it on. Furthermore, everyone prefers shorter queues, which crossplay can provide. Even people who don't like crossplay (you, to name a relevant example) prefer to leave it on than to suffer through longer queues.

So then you admit we wouldn't have that problem in reverse.

Therefore it makes sense to do what I said and make it so that you can match with other players on your platform even if they have a different crossplay setting.

And since it would be low priority then we only get matched once all other options are exhausted. But then since I still my my own pool of non-crossplay players I can still potentially find games sooner.

It's a win-win for everyone. No one would be forced to play with crossplay off, they want it on for faster MM which they would still get.

  • First says...

You didn't have to say xbox players are the best, but you specifically stated that the reason you don't want to playa against PS / PC players will get you banned, which implies it isn't for any real reason other than you don't like people from other platforms which is super irrational. This heavily implies you just think xbox players are the best.

Yea because I have not nice things to say about them. Doesn't mean I think I'm better than them, there are actually different behaviors associated with each platform.

  • @Mooks said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751070#Comment_1751070

You really think this is a crossplay issue and that there can never be an Xbox player that plays like that?

    Not every other game.

Once in 50 games maybe at red ranks. People don't play like this on Xbox at high ranks.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751068#Comment_1751068

Yes they are by turning on crossplay my pool gets smaller and smaller while theirs gets bigger. Eventually no one will be in my pool and I'm FORCED into crossplay if I want games.

Only if people keep prioritizing shorter queues over excluding players in other systems. Otherwise, the reverse is true. Either way, no force is being used. You have the choice to decide for yourself what's more important: shorter queues or only playing with people using the same system as you. Personally, I chose shorter queues and would do so regardless of what the default status of crossplay happened to be.

If the crossplay option was OFF by default this wouldn't be a problem because then at least people would have to choose to do it instead of choose to not do it. And yes there is a difference.

If crossplay was off by default, you'd have the exact same problem, but in reverse, so this wouldn't solve anything.

Try to organize with people who feel the same way you do. Teach them about crossplay, disable it en masse and see if your queues are shortened. If you're right and most players are just too lazy or uninformed to do anything about it, then you'll have proven that crossplay is an unwanted feature (at least for your platform). If not, you at least have a small pool of players to get into lobbies with.

"If crossplay was off by default, you'd have the exact same problem, but in reverse, so this wouldn't solve anything."

Well if players are as informed and not lazy as you say then they would turn it back on.

The devs did this to force crossplay. It's pretty clear.

  • @MadLordJack said:

To clarify: as Otzdarva has shown, the sweatiest players turn crossplay off and have created their own private ecosystem of tryharding and borderline competitiveness on each respective platform, despite the fact that DbD isn't competitive in any real sense.

Yes, exactly. But as a Series X player I'm forced to play with potatoes and trolls instead.

Literally just had a game where an Ash offered Lery's then decided to try and meme with the killer by looping around hooks. People just don't do that ######### on Xbox. He was crossplay. I don't want to play with him at all.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751046#Comment_1751046

On the other hand, unless players like you were pushed to the back of the queue, which would likely mean you'd never get into a trial again, you would effectively be imposing your personal choice on everyone else.

Nobody's forcing you to have crossplay on. You have the choice to disable it, but you'd rather have shorter queues. This is very different from you showing up in a lobby and everyone else being forced to be matched as if they had crossplay off.

"Nobody's forcing you to have crossplay on. "

Yes they are by turning on crossplay my pool gets smaller and smaller while theirs gets bigger. Eventually no one will be in my pool and I'm FORCED into crossplay if I want games.

Yeah, that’s one of the only two problems with next gen consoles (the other being trophies not carrying over, at least on PS5). Because of how hard they were to preorder, not that many people have a next gen console right now (it might even be worse for XSX because I saw a lot more hype for the PS5). Add most people not realizing or caring about the disadvantages of crossplay, and you’re in for a bad time. Unfortunately you’ll have to either turn crossplay on or switch back to the XB1 version for now. Hope you didn’t get rid of it or the Series X allows you to switch between versions like the PS5 does.

Thank you. Someone that actually understands the problem and doesn't shame or bully me to play crossplay.

  • @Seanzu said:

I don't see any reason to turn it off, the way this post comes across it seems to me like you think Xbox Gamers are the best or something, you implied in an earlier comment that reasons you don't want to play with crossplay will get you banned, so it's probably for the better that the majority of people have it on so they can avoid the toxicity.

DID I SAY XBOX PLAYERS ARE THE BEST?

    No I didn't.

Love how I get bullied onto playing crossplay though. EXACTLY A REASON I TURN THAT ######### OFF!!

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751039#Comment_1751039

That's not feasible or reasonable. Such a thing would effectively be imposing your choice to disable crossplay on everyone you get matched with, since they won't be able to match with people from other platforms either because you happen to be in the same lobby.

It would not because you can be put in a game full of Xbox players with crossplay on anyway. It could easily match me in games to fill in spots.

Furthermore I feel force to play with crossplay on if I want to actually play the game nowadays. So why is it okay to force me to do something I don't want but not okay to force other people?

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751018#Comment_1751018

You have no evidence that they don't know what it means. I think any human being would be curious about the weird symbol and look up what it means.

Not wanting to change it is not the same as being lazy. Just because you would rather have it off (without suffering the consequences of longer queue times) doesn't mean the same is true of other players.

Yes just like you have no proof they know what it means either.

For real the thread is not about why I don't play crossplay. It's about the devs fixing the problems on Xbox Series X and making it so that I can match with other players on my platform if they have crossplay ON, just don't put crossplay players in the game. So unless you are going to respond to either of those, just don't.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/206257/bhvr-thanks-for-forcing-me-into-crossplay

Crossplay is awesome because my survivor queue times are now waay shorter than before. And i get to face/play with streamers more often too, which is kinda cool.Gotta give props to BHVR for being able to implement it without ANY issues at all.

I don't understand why you would ever turn crossplay off, especially of you own a next gen console. The only time i would turn it off is if i get faster queue times or another patch like 4.3.1 (Dead by PowerPoint presentation)

Pretty petty of you to leave a bad review only because you hate PC and PS players

Not everyone cares about que times.

You get the worst matches on crossplay. There is a reason it is fast because you're getting matched with pretty much everyone. Maybe when MMR comes back it would be better but for now the only way I feel like I get games that have everyone of equal skill is on my own platform only.

I'd rather wait for a game that's a challenge than one where 3 of 5 players DC before it ends or players that clearly should not be in red ranks.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1751005#Comment_1751005

I know what you're talking about. My point is that people know they have crossplay enabled; it's self-evident. Therefore, my conclusion is not that they're uninformed or lazy, but rather that they prefer having it on.

If they don't know what it means that suggests uninformed.

If they don't care to change it to even try, that suggests lazy.

Love how ya'll just dismiss my problem with "oh well you deserve it for thinking the way you do".

Pretty much the exact reason I turn that ######### off.

  • Yes I deserve to wait for games because half of the population of my platform is in another matchmaking pool.

Do you actually read what you type before you hit enter?

  • @Orion said:

Crossplay is quite evident in the score screen, so it's not that 99% of players are "too lazy or uninformed" to turn it off. More likely, they just don't think the long queues are worth it.

You can't play with people on your platform if they have crossplay turned on and you have it off or vice versa. The icon has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

I play on Xbox with crossplay off, and I can ONLY match with other Xbox players that have if off too. If they have it on we can't be put in a game even if everyone is on Xbox anyway.

  • @Kebek said:

I don't want to make light of your issue, I'm just curious, why should they turn if off ? Is it because playing againt other platforms is unfair or something similiar.

I just don't want to play with PC or PS players. If I told you why I'd probably get banned from the forum TBH.

Maybe I will cross play as killer now with 60 FPS, but hell no am I going to play survivor with survivors on other platforms.

  • After more testing I can only load the killer menu. Opening the survivor menu freezes the game.

  • Or just park Victor near the basement and use him as TI and save yourself a perk slot.

  • Yes I would like to know as well. Also I hope they are aware that you can only play with other Xbox players if you have crossplay on.

I can't even play survivor, the screen freezes the moment after I click the button on the main screen. Have only been able to play as killer with crossplay on. If I turn it off I sit in a lobby forever and never find a game.

  • I can't even open a survivor lobby without the game crashing.

But now it makes sense why I never found a game without crossplay turned on. This is BS we have to do this.

  • I just my Xbox Series X today.

I wanted to just walk around in custom game but when I click the menu option the game freezes.

  • Me guess is that Madness 3 will inflict Incapacitated in the future.

  • Plague

I mean just look at that perfect posture...

    Untitled Image

  • I disagree.

The two biggest problems for console players are performance and control options.

The game can BARELY run at a stable 30 FPS, and usually dips or drops completely when certain things happen in the game. Using your power as a lot of killers causes frame drops. Getting a hit through Sloppy or a survivor opening a chest causes frame drops for the entire lobby. Heck even bloodlust and Adren cause massive frame drops with their notifications. This makes killer so inconsistent it's virtually unplayable at times. I have to regularly reset my game every 3-4 trials as killer (and maybe 8 or so as survivor) to fix this stuff for a short time.

Also the lack of any real control options hurt the game on console. Where is aim acceleration? Dead zones? Separate X and Y sensitivity options? Axial deadzone? And ######### WHY IS EVERY MENU USING A CURSOR ON XBOX?!? I have a ######### dpad you know, it makes menus a breeze. Sorry but I can't stand when any game uses this garbage menu system for a console game. Just proves how little console players matter to developers when they rather give us this trash pseudo-mouse bull ######### instead of actually understanding how a person with a controller plays a video game.

I have an Elite v2, I can make some of these adjustments on my controller but this ######### needs to be in the game. It would make a huge difference for killers to have all these options.

But having played a lot of FPS on Xbox, some where I turn off aim assist if the game let's me, I could say for sure that if given more control options my aim with Huntress and Nurse would be near perfect. I have great aim in all these other games that give me these options, but in DBD it's a struggle when the game literally fights you on all these different fronts.

  • One more thing to add, seeding would negatively affect some killers more than others.

Pig for example. The devs said that the traps are assigned to a box at the start of the game, which means it will likely be in the seed. If you know exactly what box to go for then traps are worthless.

Trapper too becomes a lot less powerful because survivors will know where all his traps spawn.

So what do you do? Ban all RNG like Pig and Trapper? Do you make an exception for them, and what about when that exception favors one side too much?

It's just a slippery slope to try and force the game to be static. It makes a lot more sense to work around the RNG as best as possible.

Freddy has like a million tools at his disposal, quite a few are passive. No effort needed on the killer end.

Billy is just super straightforward. To master him would take time, but anyone should be able to pick him up and do decent. If you only use his power for mobility that's still better than most m1 killers.

I also think Doc is super easy to learn especially at low ranks where most survivors hide. He counters the only thing they can do really hard.

  • @MadLordJack said:

It's no secret that survivors are... Well, overpowered. That's why tournaments are a joke. But that's also why the most logical tournament rules take that into account and have both teams play each side on the same map to see who did better.

Killers do not win tournaments, it's a competition between survivor teams. That's no secret, or at least it shouldn't be.

True but if you give them the seeds ahead of time then they become even stronger. You want to make killers stronger wherever you can because it makes survivor more competitive.

You fail to see the third scenario that I created in the comments below, where I said give both teams seeded maps (that they haven't seen) with a similar power level it doesn't even have to be the same map just have it so both team has around the same potential, that way the only thing the survivors in the second game might gain is slight expectation for how many resources are on the map

boom no planning nothing both teams different maps with all the same potential to win or lose due to seeded maps making both games balanced

Since you didn't see my edit here ya go...

    This is just impractical.

Logistically, how do you plan to do this? Are you going to go through EVERY seed and play it to see which is good and which is bad? I'm betting a single map could have like 1000 seeds. You're crazy if you think you could do that.

Additionally what even constitutes "equal strength"? Because depending on the killer and builds used it can vary, meaning you have to do those 1000 seeds 100 times each.

It just makes a LOT more sense to say, hey let's pick out a handful of the most fair maps, those with the lowest possible chance of spawning god/trash layouts for either side and then allow teams to cancel a match within say 60 seconds if they choose to because of bad RNG. That's actually something you could do in a tournament.

Good luck though if you wanna do it the other way.

whatever you seem stuck in your ways with this so im just not even gonna bother with it because no matter what compromise I come up with it won't ever be enough for you, good luck

You fail to understand the situation.

There are two ways to do this. Either we let the game randomly generate the first trial and then seed the second trial with the same map, or we pick a pre-seed variant and allow both teams to know it before any trial is played.

In the first scenario, the survivor team that plays in the second trial will have a massive advantage.

In the second scenario, you are just making survivors that much more efficient because they can preplan everything. Totems become useless. Gens will always be split. It would be impossible for any killer to get a kill, unless they just face camp the first person they catch with Bubba or something, which is sorry to say NOT good eSport material (both from a spectator POV and from a competitive POV).

I don't see what compromise there is to make. It just doesn't work. You need maps in both trials to be similar enough to be fair but different enough to also be fair. It makes the game both more balanced and competitive.

Like any tournament with a ruleset that says surivovrs/killers must you X builds is already doomed to fail, because you are making it easier for players to plan out what to do and this will always benefit survivors. You need to make the game favor killers anywhere you can to make it a good competitive experience, and one of the ways you do that is through mild RNG.

Alright heres 2 minutes of effort

Have the 2 teams play on different maps but map seed so the strength of those two maps is similar, so 1 team isn't having 16 safe pallets and the other has 8 unsafe pallets or something like that

but still use the map seeding so no teams get royally screwed by map gen, for example all places where jungle gyms can spawn aren't LT walls and all places where filler pallets can spawn don't

the teams don't have to play the same variation of the map or even the same map for that matter as long as its seeded so they both play a map of the same strength both teams should have a level playing field, happy?

    This is just impractical.

Alright let me break it down a bit more

All matches happen at the same time but are broadcasted at different times

Do a coinflip to see which team plays killer on the map first or survivor on the map first with the winning team of the coinflip being told which map and allowing them to decide based off that then after they decide tell everyone else which map it is

No the second team as in there will be at least 2 games, killer A v survivors B and killer B v survivors A. It is physically impossible to play both at once, therefore the players in the second game have information the ones of the first did not, and this will always benefit survivors.

then just do my one instead of that, they shouldn't be able to know ahead of time where all the tiles, totems, chests, hooks, gens, and basement are its just too strong

just have it be the tournament organizers find a seed in advance and throw all teams on the same seed without any practice on it boom balanced tournament

But the second team will know. That's the problem.
