That lighting was actually changed due to popular demand. Many people liked the new lighting more than the old, so we kept it. It's not exactly impossible to bring it back, but it wouldn't be something we'd consider doing unless there was boatloads of support. Some are going to like one more than the other, and there's not really a clear favourite.
The old one was so much better :( It was so much more natural and eerie..

My issues with this map are twofold.
One: It's almost nothing but narrow corridors. This is aggravating, no matter which role I'm playing.
Two: The "noise profile" of the map is an active deterrent to enjoying the game. There are tons of noises that are confusing, and make me think there's a survivor nearby or something when there isn't. The constant rumbling is also very irritating. They ought to make the map quieter.
I like all the noises. Maps that have no noises are boring. It adds ambience and atmosphere.

I'm confused that the ranks are shown. I thought the devs didn't want it because survivors would lobby dodge more than the killers do.
However, I agree. I like it, but I feel a lot of pressure to do well when I am 5 ranks higher than everyone else in the lobby.
The killers can't see the rank if I remember correctly. Only fellow survivors.
-
I LOVE the ambience of the new map. So many new sounds and wow the rats upstairs actually jumpscared me. I wish they touched up the old maps with similar atmospheric changes.

I feel the Demogorgon is going to make survivors dc like old Legion did. Its already happening now and with this change it'll happen more. Dont have to @ me, this is a prediction. I had 3 2 man games facing him and some 3 man. People are dcing him already without this change.
lmao what... why would people DC against him already without this change... nothing is broken with him. I feel like this might just be your or their internet connection.

Common bug for choosing Survivors or coming back to the lobby. Usually just equipping a new cosmetic, perk, or item will fix it.
Ahhh okay I see. Thanks!

Any plans to buff dying light? it seems quite weak after its rework...

I'd also like to take a moment to admire the old menu lobby. It used to look so spooky and atmospheric, now it's just an oversaturated hue of orange.
So true :(

I have an AMD gpu.

As killer, I wouldnt mind going back to the darker theme of the game, if they tweaked their sound occlusion to what it was before. I used to be able to hear that Blendette rustle the grass 2 trees to my side. Now I cant hear that anymore.
A couple of patches ago the sound was completely broken, but now I think its getting better, and will get even better

At the time, yes. But now the reason to play it is totems, and it's pretty good at that.
Regardless, I don't want to strip a niche perk hardly anyone runs of its primary objective, locating traps.

Iโd like that
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/688710#Comment_688710
Totems are literally the reason to use it.... If more people used it then ruin and noed would quickly fall out of the meta.
No.. totems are not the reason to run it. It was originally designed PURELY to counter trappers traps. Then totems were added later.

Intimidating? Only time those 3 are intimidating is when you're the last survivor during EGC. Otherwise they're simply fun. Toolboxes make you not fear failure whatsoever.
Uhhhh what... you must obviously play at rank 20 if you think nurse, spirit and billy aren't the most intimidating/strongest killers in the game.
And lmao what? "toolboxes make you not fear failure" ????? how does it make you not fear failure???? it's literally just an increase in repair speed how does that change fear of failure.
Anyway I'm done with this part of the thread, I'm going back to talking about atmosphere

That's my point: dbd was never a horror game to begin with.
Point 3 is invalid because these 3 killers that you mentioned (billy, nurse and spirit) are intimidating, and thus, scary. When I first started playing, the revving of billy's chainsaw would be enough to scare me.
Toolboxes? BNP for sure. But toolboxes in general did not make the game less scary.

Just like Badham, they'll eventually get around to re-doing all the old textures and the overall ambience. It's...just gonna take a while.
Yeah, I'm actually really happy with Badham and the stranger things map not gonna lie, I wish the other maps were as dark and atmospheric as them.

Btw in this chapter they didn't mentioned that they did a slightly graphic change, which can be mostly noticed in the new ambients of the new map and in some hairs, also in the main menu (the campfire)
What did they change with the campfire?

It never felt like that. This was only in your imagination.
Of course haha, I'm talking about how the old atmosphere of the game made me feel. Sorry for my poor wording.

@DrVeloxcity said:
The game used to be so atmospheric and had more of a horror-thriller element to it than it does now.
Honestly, BHVR should reroll the game back to the old graphic/lighting engine or at the very least give us more settings so we can toggle things like brightness or ambient lighting ourselves.
Yeah :( it had such a unique feeling to it that I've never felt before in any other games. It felt like an actual camping horror game. Like you were actually out in the bush in these different locations exploring while getting hunted.
-
That's the new map, which I'm very happy with because the atmosphere of it (the sounds and darkness) is amazing. I'm talking about the other maps.
-
@Mister_xD said:
tbf, it does have a cooldown and a maximum range, so during a chase its not very usefull...
outside of chases, yeah it is a pretty nice counter to him.
i am still voting for small game to no longer reveal traps, but be totems only and have a totem counter.
So you want to nerf an already niche perk into making it so absolutely no one runs it...

Let's be real you probably wouldn't. I know this because there's tons of issues and bugs in the game right now and apparently it hasn't swayed you from playing the game.
The bugs in this game are minor compared to the past.
This is obviously a bait thread, so goodbye.

Same here. Buggy and terrible dedicated servers when launched can easily kill this game.
If killer feels to off for me or not right, I probably would stop playing the game
Legit, I don't think this guy realizes the backlash the devs would face from the majority if they released it in its current form. Reviews would be worse, player counts would go down, etc.

@MemberBerry said:
The horror in dbd died when:
- People realized survivor was the power role
- Flashlights got implemented ( for BM purposes)
- DS, Adrenaline, instaheals, toolboxes and keys got implemented
- The loudest, most alerting killers became the best killers (billy, nurse, spirit without prayer beads)
um..... 2, 3 and 4 have been in the game from the start (with the exception of ds and spirit) in even stronger forms.

I play this game since 2016 and I really miss the old design. And maybe flying killers.
Sadly I don't have many cool screenshots showing much from the old design.
Hahahaha i remember space billy that was funny. I got some more pics of the old design

I would rather them release dedicated servers in a less buggy form.

Yup, meaning they don't want to.
Well, judging from the majority of comments on this post I know a lot of players want it more atmospheric.

The old engine made lots of people run the game just bad.
You could be setting GTA V on High, but it wouldn't matter one bit in DbD.
Btw, if you, reading this comment, ran it just fine before, good for you, but not everyone is you. ๐
I just hope they can do it properly one day. ๐
As I said, they can easily make changes such as lowering the brightness that wouldn't effect fps
-
Ahhhh THANK GOD people are finally realizing how much the game has changed in terms of lighting and graphics. I agree so much. I would do ANYTHING to have the game darker and foggier. We need more atmosphere. That's what made the game attractive to me in the first place when I started out in 2016, it was how much I got freaked out by the atmosphere and vibe of the game. It's lost that same magic in appearance.

The game may look good back then,
but it didn't run good at all.
I mean, it still doesn't run well now, either, but it runs a little bit better now than before, now with over half of the eye candy missing.
True, it didn't run that well. But, some of the changes they CAN make to return the atmosphere to a horror one, wouldn't change the performance at all. I.e darkening the game

Oh, I must have misread when I thought it said that the killer could see the survivor too. I must have also misread the fact that eventually there's gonna be this status effect that's going to be for "stealth killers" who can completely bypass the survivor's aura reading, but hey, they'll still be able to see survivors because this status effect does nothing to them, making OoO completely a detriment against someone like that. No one will use it in a patch or two. It'll be the new Left Behind.
If they add undetectable to stealth killers, I sincerely doubt the devs will make it so the killers can see the survivors but the survivors can't see the killers. I'm sure they'll just make it so the perk doesn't activate.
-
One of the reasons is because sabotage used to be meta which would take a decent portion of time for survivors to do, away from gens. Now that's gone, survivors can only do gens
-
I'm a laurie main and I hate that the opinion on the perk has been absolutely demolished because of SWF squads :( I loved pairing it with sole survivor and versing myers to make a halloween match.
-
20 sec sprint burst cooldown
Sabo meta
Play with your food 21% bonus speed that could be achieved in like 4 seconds
Hag having having an 0.5 second stun on release for everything (pallets, ds, etc)

There are no plans to change the base kit for the Clown in the immediate future. It's definitely possible down the line, but I don't want to get your hopes up just yet.
The killer's we'll be taking a look at in the near (or at least near in terms of the roadmap) future can be found here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/77678/
Q: Could you talk about who you're planning on reworking/updating next?
A: We cannot give dates on when these changes will happen, but we can share some information on which killers we are looking to update. We will be taking a look at the Nurse and her add-ons (primarily her add-ons) and the Doctor. We would also like to review the chainsaw killers, the Shape, and the Pig, and more. Some may receive smaller changes or add-on passes while other may see more significant changes.
What do you plan to change about the shape?

@Sheldor said:
I also liked the ability to darken the map with an add on. Not a good decision (like so many) by the dev team to remove this.
Well I guess I agree with the devs on this part, it was very hard for them to create dark and bright versions of each individual map just to make it work with an offering. But I wish they made it darker in general.
-
@ItzSoulz said:
in the old version of dbd i think the graphic was better
Definitely, I agree.

@Sheldor said:
It was a good thing even though you could see survivor and killer wigs from across the map with it. It also was a good justification for scratchmarks to give the killer a clue. Now with the 4k vision across almost the entire map I don't see why that crutch should still exist.
Ah I remember that. I'm not sure why they never managed to fixed the hair through the fog bug
-
@Hoodied said:
I loved it too
So much things that made this game look nice
I see that DCing was always a problem
Yeah... I'm just really confused as to why they removed all them.
Hahaha yeah DCing was even worse back then because there was no penalty (possibility of being banned)

Once I was playing on Suffocation Pit and the map RNG spawned just so the moon was shining so ridiculously bright on the coal mine. When I walked inside it was so bright it looked like someone was having a birthday party inside. And this was traditionally one of the darkest places in the entire game!
Ridiculous.
I hate what they did with the engine update, it was unnecessary, uncalled for and just ruined the game's atmosphere, and if anything the performance got worse and it introduced tons of bugs especially with the sound.
But BHVR stubborny (and foolishly) refuses to do a rollback, I wonder why? They won't even acknowledge it.
Same here. They stripped a beautifully atmospheric game of what made it unique and made it look like a plastic, cartoonish arcade game.
-
BAHAHA so true. The game should be renamed to dead in daylight
-
So true :( I would give absolutely anything for them to return it to the old engine.

And, yet again, what about the circumstances when you chase and hook another survivor, happen across the unhooked survivor, and then still get DSed? People keep pointing out this sequence of events to you, but I still haven't seen an actual suggestion for what to do about this. And yes, it happens often enough to become annoying.
If DS is intended to stop tunneling, why does it not pause when in a chase or the TR, but have a far shorter timer? Say, 15 seconds or so. That would completely nullify tunneling, while also making it so the survivor has to actually play skillfully if they want to retain their DS for a post-hook stun.
I hardly ever encounter DS. It's very easy to avoid.
-
Definitely miss the dev streams. I remember 2016 and 2017 getting eager for Friday mornings to come (OCE) so I could watch the stream playback in the mornings
-
The lighting on Badham is perfect right now. Not too bright like some of the other maps, but gloomy and atmospheric. It's definitely not as bad as you're making it out to be though, I think thats a problem with your monitor. I can always see where I'm going on that map.
