Only 20% loss rate. Hey devs, how is that SBMM working again? Fair system you say?

I wonder if they rolled back people's ratings or implemented rating decay. I haven't played in maybe 3 months, came back for Legion and SBMM changes, and only had exit gates opened 2 out of the first 50 games. When I played late last night and today, I had so many super tough matches. Got 0-1 kills several games in a row. Some were vs teams with brand new accounts with no hours, so I suppose they may have been subtle cheaters, but maybe not. It's starting to feel not that enjoyable again. Maybe SBMM is still bad and my initial enjoyment was because my rating had dropped?
" only had exit gates opened 2 out of the first 50 games" - holy .... I'm speachless.... I didn't know that was still a thing. That just can't be very healthy for the game. Press F to pay respects to SBMM.

Theoretically, yes. But if there aren't that many people at the top, then players towards the top are going to be matched downward by quite a bit. It has been my major point of contention with the MMR update. There's still way too little space between the top and mid MMR and too wide of an acceptable matchmaking range. A 350 MMR difference is not going to be an acceptable skill difference for players at the top end of that range. I just get frustrated with teammates I get matched with and log off.
Yeah, that's a huge problem. Actually 2 problems. You get frustrated with low skill teammates. Low skill teammates get frustrated with too high skill killer.
I had that as a killer yesterday. Low and high skill survivors matched together. If I chase high skill, I lose game, so I don't do it. So, instead, I identify low skill, kill them off early (matchmaking problem 1), then high skill get frustrated that they have no chases and then it's easy to kill them after low skill gen workers are gone (matchmaking problem 2). So the game becomes the game of identifying low skill early. Easy 4k. The only problem for killer is when you have well matched SWF or if you chase wrong people.

Glad to see I'm not the only one having a terrible time since this change went live.
Yeah, I honestly don't see the point spending any more time until the "matchmaking" is fixed. No wonder people are leaving. 10 games today. 1 escape. If 10% escape rate is normal, I'm out.
-
Game is horrible in general, because matchmaking is trash. Just had 9 solo q matches and not a single escape. I guess I'll come back in another 3 months. Maybe they can eventually manage to hire competent dev able to create working SBMM.
-
Now 7 matches of no escapes. Cenobite with 4 gen slowdown perks.
I've heard that if you give a lot of monkey tapewriters, they can create masterpiece. I wonder if BHVR can find enough monkeys with keyboards to create a working matchmaking system.
The infinite monkey theorem states that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type any given text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare. In fact, the monkey would almost surely type every possible finite text an infinite number of times. -

Matchmaking has been mostly decent so far for me, exception being when a survivor left one of my killer lobbies and got replaced, you always get a real wild card when that happens. In this case it was a Feng that hid in lockers with deep wound before falling out of them when it expired.
Cool. I just tried another solo Q game. Same thing. 3 people on same gen at game start (who does that?) huntress downs 2 in 15 seconds. I don't feel like there is any point to even try after that.

It could very well be tome challenges. I know for me, I wasted time on some of them like doing 10 totems, 6 sabos when I could of been on gens. It seems everyone is doing the same thing. Survivor challenges pull away from the objective.
Yes, but... Isn't SBMM supposed to adjust for that? Not doing well (low skill) adjust MMR down and give easier matches? I mean, we are not talking some small difference in supposed skill here. The killers are basically dominating baby solo matches that I had today.

When every single point is either blatantly objectively false, misrepresented, out of context, or cherry-picking points, there is not much reason to consider it seriously at all.
Then talk about the points that you disagree with. Labeling people does nothing to prove your point, other than showing you in unfavorable light.

Its okay hes just a troll atp
Ad hominem
Ad hominem (Latin for 'to the person'), short for argumentum ad hominem, refers to several types of arguments, some but not all of which are fallacious. Typically this term refers to a rhetorical strategy where the speaker attacks the character, motive, or some other attribute of the person making an argument rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself. -
@RainehDaze said:

My argument is the simple one that tier lists aren't constructed around the entire scale of a game, they're constructed around what's meta and assume competent play.
In an RTS, a strategy with a particular faction might be incredibly powerful at lower MMR, but it could be easily countered by a more skilled player, and otherwise lack the tools to win once that strategy is negated. Therefore, people will rightfully say that this faction is low-tier, because of its poor performance in competitive play.
Or in a fighting game, it might be reaaaally easy to spam one attack at low play, and if you don't know how to counter it well, you get stunlocked and lose. But if that move sets you up to lose badly once countered, overreliance on it would still make it a low-tier character.
Taking the kill rate across the entire playerbase would be the same as saying the above two examples are high tier purely because they beat new players that don't know how to counter them. But that's not what tier lists are made around or how competitive games are balanced, so it's ridiculous to introduce it here and claim that a character is high tier because of the overall kill rates.
Pulling out (incorrect) links to fallacies is lazy.
You can construct your tier lists around anything you want. I saw people constructing them around size of killers butt. As I said, without having ability to know your specific MMR, it's impossible to say who is "competent", if you are judging yourself. Some people think they are competent, while they are not, or the opposite. Without having any way to measure "competence", it large meaningless. But even if you could measure it, where do you draw the line? Tournament level SWF? Therefore, without metrics, the only tier list we can do is for average player, because this is the only thing that is supported by official stats.
"poor performance in competitive play." - as in tournaments? The highest level of competition? Tournaments where Kinship was one of most used perks and most killers proxy camped? LOL :D How is it even remotely relevant to most people? Why should people care about tier lists that are not applicable to overwhelming majority of players?
Btw, the link is correct. What's lazy is making a lot of claims without any proof.

Hey many if you want to argue he totally meant Artist wasn't actually better than Nurse, go ahead. He said she had more potential. which would imply someone who spent 5k hours on her should be better than Nurse. Kill rates mean nothing unless you think Nurse needs buffs. Cenobite is at the top because he stomps newbies who can't figure out the box and are at 1200 MMR. If you actually believe Pinhead is among the top 5 best killers, then we are so far apart that any arguing is pointless.
He has bad opinions and basically tries to state every killer released is extremely good. Then they turn out to suck or be really mediocre. People don't need to take his opinions as law. Otz says she's bottom 7. Scott says she's weak. Why don't we listen to them but we listen to the guy who has repeatedly been wrong and has a history of saying mediocre killers are godly?
You don't have to listen to any streamer. I don't. I just pointed out, similar to you, that there are different opinions. But at the end, the only proof of ranking is stats. Nurse is right where killers should be at 50%. It's the other ones that are overperforming. You have a bunch of statements that are not supported by any stats. It's fine if you feel that way, but you do realize it's nothing more than your feelings. If you want to argue that Pinhead is not at the top, prove it with data. If you want to talk about specific MMR, show me how you determine your MMR as well as MMR of people you verse. Without stats or concrete numbers, it's all just hot air.

No, I mean who in their right mind would construct a tier list based on overall kill rates and therefore include all the people who don't know how to play against a particular Killer? That's utterly incompetent. Because, as I said, this runs into the problem of being meaningless for anyone who gets reasonably good at it.
Tier lists are generally made with above-average play in mind, just because that actually tells you something useful.
Your best argument is a logical fallacy?

Who the ######### ranks Killers based on their ability to kill people who don't know how to deal with them? That's the most useless ranking system in existence. "If you play this Killer a lot, and get good with them, this is how they won't perform because you'll be against players who do know! :)"
That'd be like ranking Survivor perks based on how good they are if you don't know how to use them.
"people who don't know how to deal with them" - you know it's not true, but good attempt at pushing your narrative. It's based on all people playing DBD, not just those who don't know how to deal with killers.
-
Watch Otzdarva and tell me how his skill doesn't matter. It's odd that he wins overwhelming majority of his matches, isn't it? Must be luck, not skill, right?

Dowsey also said that Artist was possibly better than Nurse and Pinhead was S tier.
For average player Artist is better than Nurse and Pinhead is S tier. He was obviously not talking about exceptional Nurse players who have 5k hours playing just her. For most players Artist would be better than Nurse. Look at official stats from devs. Notice that Cenobite is at the very top?

"it only takes about 2 - 3 4k's before I'll be matched with the typical sweaty group" - wow, haven't seen so much entitlement in a while. Not every single killer can be S tier.
There will always be characters in games that are "the worst" or simply "lower tier" than others. You could argue that every killer in this game pales in comparison to Nurse since she's in her own tier. Not every killer can or should be on her level.
Also again, it's too early to tell where exactly Sadako will fall on the tier list. I don't care if Otz says she's low C tier, I'll wait for dedicated Onryō players to show us just what she's capable of in the next month or so to come. Y'all need to calm down with the crazy projections as well as doom and gloom. Seriously it feels like there is no pleasing killer mains.
"it feels like there is no pleasing killer mains." - I'm killer main and I'm pleased. Hard to imagine, but we don't have a hive mind. Believe it or not, but we are all individuals.

Uh. Play killer and 3/4 iri badge until you start getting survivors that win (4 escapes) against you.
If you are getting at least 1 of these every 5 matches, you've hit your MMR cap.
After a loss, I'll usually get a handful of pity matches, before my next set of sweats.
....is this not everyone else's experience?
I have no idea what you are talking about. Anyway, I barely have any losses, even with weakest killers. So I don't get many pity matches. Just had another Pig match: 3k + hatch with 1 gen left. Before that had Nemi match: 4k with 2 gens left. I've been winning most of my games for over a year now, which probably over a thousand matches. How many years in a row do I need to keep mostly winning to hit MMR cap?
As I explained, the problem is not MMR, but the matchmaking system that ignores MMR in order to speed up matching.

Do you know what a strawman is
Do you? Strawman an intentionally misrepresented proposition that is set up because it is easier to defeat than an opponent's real argument. You keep repeating same thing over and over "You must be the greatest player ever since your kill rates are even higher than some of the best DBD players atm." which is an obviously misrepresented proposition, since
a) I neither claimed nor provided enough information to determine that I'm greatest.
b) This is not even close to the best DBD players atm. Watch Otzdarva and count his wins, then tell me again how it's not an obvious lie.

You must be the greatest player ever since your kill rates are even higher than some of the best DBD players atm. Once again, when you talk to me about real stats and about the real game and your only argument isn't "As the greatest player ever I have no problem and official stats that show all ranks say otherwise." Despite us only talking about high MMR and overall balance.
We are NOT talking about specific MMR, because none of us knows what our MMR is. Prove me wrong but showing me how you determined your MMR. I'm far from greatest and I still routinely dominate survivors. Greatest players barely have any losses at all. Anyway, it seems like you don't have any arguments except repeating same strawman over and over.

"the killer is restricted due to outside reasons " - no idea what that means. Anyway, don't buy what you don't want to buy. Not sure why you are trying to convince me. I'll buy it because I like variety and I like challenge.

Well Im sorry but I am having an extremely hard time believing you are the greatest DBD player in existence. If thats your only argument please don't continue since you keep saying the same point of "Well I win every single game with no trouble so therefore no killers need a buff."
There is no need to descend into strawman territory.
- I never claimed to be greatest DBD player in existence. In fact, I said that I have no idea what my MMR is, since that is hidden.
- I never said that I win every single game. My stats from 128 matches are: Win/Loss ratio: 4.41; average kills per match: 3.1
- That is not my ONLY argument. Official stats indicate that kill rates are already over 50% https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/306027/latest-stats-for-killer-pick-rates-and-kill-rates-and-maps-with-highest-and-lowest-kill-rate/p1
- You keep failing to consider matchmaking. If your kill rate is less than 50%, than maybe the problem is you? Perhaps you are below average and the game can't find weak enough survivors to match you with? Watch any good streamer and see that their kill rates are way higher than 50% with any killer, including the weakest ones.

So a killer cant be strong and challenging its only one or the other? And if you're not playing at highest ranks then why does you winning matter? Ofc any killer can stomp baby survivors but that shouldn't be what we balance the game around.
You seemed to be missing couple points:
No one know at what "ranks" (you mean MMR?) we are playing. That information is not displayed by the game. So the discussion of it is irrlevant.
My winning matters because if you buff some killers, than people like me will win even more matches. If I already win more than three quarters of my games, do you not agree that it would be ridiculous if I won even more? Should survivors I'm matched with have even less chance?

So because we have a strong killer we're not allowed to have another strong killer? Can there not be more than 1 strong killer released a year or something? And my complaint wasn't about Sadako (despite her needing an extreme buff) it was about the idea killers being bad and not viable is perfectly okay.
Yes, it's perfectly okay to have weaker killers. Some people enjoy challenge.
Are you allowed to have more strong killers? Yes.

No, I never said "at highest ranks", but the rest of it is true. No one, except devs or hackers know what our MMR is, so I would not claim what I can't confirm. I win not because killers OP, but because matchmaking is crap and often matches me with babies. The killers are fine, as proven by stats released by devs, maybe a tiny bit OP, as the current average kill rate is above 50%. It's the matchmaking that is the problem.

Of course skill matters. I'm using his as an example because you can easily compare his matches to matches if some random killer on twitch that has 5 viewers. Than tell me if you see any difference between them playing at the same time of day.

And? I disagree about the depth, especially strategic, but I don't see how it's relevant. Okay, C tier, so what? As I said before, if you find C tier too challenging, play S tier. Of course he plays different during streaks, as it obviously requires tryharding, than he plays normally. Watch his normal stream and see for yourself how he wins most matches without tunneling, camping, or meta perks. I don't fine win streak fun to watch because I don't like watching tryharding. My personal win/loss ratio from last count was 4.41, which means that survivors win less than 1 out of 4 games and I play with all killers almost equally, so tell me again which killers are too underpowered.

We that's not my fault tell that to the devs who can't make a match making system, can't make a level up system and can't even balance their game. Also since you want to take shots at me because of the "fun's what matter" bullshit argument I guess you never felt buyer's remorse from this game and tell me what's more fun
1. A fair and balanced match.
2. A squash match where even before starting the game you are at a lose lose scenario and then have the degrade you more.
Fun is subjective and I want more option it's just that this game doesn't give those options at a stage where it's worth the price.
"fun's what matter" is not an argument. This is what matters to me and that's a fact. I don't argue that it should matter to you.

And you have more options. There are weak and strong killers. Use the strong ones if challenge upsets you.

Tbf in a lot of them he does go against really bad survivors. He shows the most intense and challenging matches but he also runs meta perks. The game shouldn't be 'only balanced if both teams run entirely meta perks'. (Not saying OTZ is bad I know he's great just pointing it out)
Of course he goes against really bad survivors, because that's the reality of current matchmaking. I also go against bad survivors most of the time, which is why I'm saying that having more challenge could be fun. And no, he doesn't run meta perks all the time. Look at his todays stream for example: no way out, noed, pain resonance, deadlock. Is this considered meta now? It's strong, but no way I'd call it meta. I can think of a few much stronger builds.

I don't mind challenge but theres challenge and poor balance.
Playing Huntress is challenging. She can be a monster but when you're first learning her chances are you're pretty bad and not gonna get kills.
Pig is poor balance. Even at top tier play she still remains to be a very easily looped M1 killer who needs an initial down to activate her true power (the RBT).
Playing Hillbilly (Despite how much I hate him) Is challenging. When first playing him he's not that amazing. Decent mobility but you can't utilize his chainsaw much. But once you master him he's insanely good and can pull off great tricks which end chases instantly.
Sadako (Despite how much I love her) is poor balance. She's a very fun stealth killer but in the competitive aspect (or even if you just find winning fun) shes very weak. She has no chase power but great stealth and while some people like me LOVE that style, its just not viable with the game in its current state and I don't think it ever will be.
Define "poor balance".
>but in the competitive aspect (or even if you just find winning fun) shes very weak.
that's what I'm saying. It's challenging to win with her. If you don't like that challenge, than don't play her. I like it and I will play her. I get average kill rate over 3, so I'd love to finally stop dominating survivors and actually have to work for a win.

Sure enjoy it while not being able to actually have fun thanks to the mmr and the devs being survivor biased then.
I'm not saying she has to be over powered but with the current state it takes more than a Borrowed gimmick to be worthed the price tag.
It seems like idea that winning and having fun is not the same thing to some people. Just because you lack imagination how someone can have fun in a way that you personally don't have fun in, doesn't mean that it's impossible. I wish there were less tryhards in this game, but that's not possible unfortunately, as they think that every match is a tournament with a huge prize.

Because some people like challenge. No one is forcing you to play killers you find challenging.

Yeah. Solo is pretty horrible right now. The matchmaking is casting wayyyyyy to wide of a net.
What's the point of having me wait 7 minutes just to put me in an unplayable 10 minute game? Do the devs really think I don't want to wait another minute or two for teammates at my skill level?
It's awful. Nearly every game has one or two teammates who go down instantly or make spectacularly poor choices paired with two competent players. The killer can't catch the two good players and rolls the other the two. The results of the game literally comes down to who the killer finds first and whether the two newer players will touch a generator. It's miserable.
As killer main, I can confirm this. I see huge disparity in skills and try to find weak link at first. It's often the difference between losing and winning. And with the way matchmaking is now, most of the time it's not a problem.
Weak one gets upset that he gets tunneled out early. After 2 hooks, they often become scared and stop doing gens at first terror sound, which is good for me. And as one of the devs would probably say: "if you got tunneled out because you are weak link thanks to our trash matchmaking, is it really a skillful gameplay?" (disclaimer: it's a joke. Plz don't take my cosmetics)
Strong ones get upset because they are ignored most of the match and then get to die on first hook. When they notice week one is dying too quickly, they try to distract and body block, so they stop doing gens too, which is also good for me. "if you got ignored all game and then died on first hook, is it really skillful gameplay?"
No amount of balancing would fix this. It's all about proper matchmaking.

Is it? Have you conveniently forgotten how broken killers were back then as well? 5 blink Nurse? Mori on first hook?
Don't act like killers have been exclusively buffed from then, they've also been nerfed
Not really. There were a lot less gen slowdown perks at that time. Survive against Ruin, Undying, Pain Resonance, Deadmans Switch combo in solo q today. Gens will be either regressing or blocked half the game. This is much more common now than 5 blink nurse ever was.

Solo q is not a problem. With all the easy loops and second chance perks, you don't need swf to run rings around the killer.
Killer mains are flooding the forums today. Don't you have anything better to do, like some more camping and tunneling probably?

Honestly, the whole ''solo queue is a nightmare'' is out of proportion. Ever since SBMM, you have decent teammates and with COH/DH and the other second chance perks you have, it's a breeze.
It's very rare that I legitimately find myself struggling in solo queue, and this image of ''poor us solo queue :( '' is nonsense.
Cool story. Consider career as a fiction writer.
