did you read what I said? it addresses what you said entirely.

the things you are replying to. fall under what jocelyn replied to. it is not griefing, because it wasn't called that.

I did read what you said. The first 4 words were "by the game rules," thus proving your statement "it addresses what you said" incorrect, because I could not have more unambiguously specified I was not talking about the game rules but rather the social contract of playing games in general

by the game rules, as explained, with no context given beyond "they did X so I decided not to unhook them", it wasn't called out as griefing.

the things people are saying here, fall under that.

The fact that you continue to refuse to read what I said is so intensely disrespectful to not just me but this entire community

I think it's safe to say it can't be griefing as defined by the rules since the answer wasn't "yes". or something like "yes if no extra context matters".

it falls into a gray area of "you don't like it and think it should be consider griefing 100%". but it doesn't sound like that is what is happening.

Personally, I see the answer as "I don't see any rules being broken but I don't wanna answer it's ok". which is a fair stance to take.

after all harassing players and targetting users to ruin their experience are by themselves against the rules. whichever method is chosen to do it is equally bad in my eyes, it's not like it changes the answer if you change the method.

Do people genuinely just not read people's posts before responding? I could not have possibly been more unambiguous in explaining I wasn't talking about in game rules here

why am I the only one time travelling?

and I said, not saving someone on hook is not griefing. because it isn't. it takes more than not saving you once to reach that.

the reason matters, the frequency matters, general context of the game matters.

until you get me a mod or someone to say that it is griefing, it is just your opinion that it should be.

I think I figured out the problem here.

You think the subtext in my original post was "failing to unhook a teammate in any context is greifing and should be punishable by a ban"

It wasn't. I was saying "the specific hypothetical scenario that a few people have presented here, wherein they intend to rescue someone, see that they've done a 4% attempt, and then change their mind and intentionally go out of their way to not rescue that person, meets the social definition of the term 'greifing,' regardless of the specific in-game rules regarding behavior and logistical challenges inherent in detecting such gameplay choices."

  • Do you think my initial post, which I made before you even weighed in, was in response to you?

I pointed out that other users were admitting to those behaviors and called them greifing, you objected to my use of that word, I explained why I thought the term applied to those other users. I'm very sorry it turns out I wasn't time traveling to talk about you.

The forum is irrelevant. You can't report people in-game for this behavior unless they explicitly say so in-game, because it would be the only proof you can show.

I think you'll find that the forum is actually extremely relevant to the concept of "people admitting to greifing their teammates on the BHVR forums," which is what my initial post was about

spite? I'm just playing the game.

unless you can read minds for some reason, it's just regular gameplay.

    also, who said die?

there were multiple people in this thread explicitly saying they would refuse to unhook anyone who attempted to 4%, specifically to punish the attempt at a 4%, and that they would point-blank refuse to rescue the person on second hook. the first of those meets the definition of "spite" and the second fits the definition of "letting a teammate die".

i may not be able to read your mind, but i can certainly read the posts of other people in this thread and i'm willing to trust people are telling the truth about their motivations - unless you're willing to break the forum rules by accusing those other users of lying and trolling?

First of all, I agree that tunneling and camping is really high at the moment. And this is most likely also the reason you see more stealth nowadays, because Survivors dont want to be the first person found.

However, if you ran him for 4 Gens, he is in need of a Kill. At this point it would not really make sense to leave you, because he needs a person dead. Sure, the Freddy-player could also try to play better, but it is not the case that they were really tunneling from the start. Tunnelvisioning, yes, but not tunneling off hook.

the word you are looking for is "want," not "need," my friend. at the point after first chase lasts 4 gens, the killer has resigned themselves to a consolation prize of a kill.

to be snarky about it, we're talking about a video game, nobody needs anything.l

but to be serious about it, with 1 gen left and 1 hook to their name, the killer is unlikely to get anything more than a 0-1 k even with tunneling - especially with tunneling, actually. going for a snowball via slugging is more likely to be effective

from the top of your head. name me 1 perk that activates when you unhook someone.

now, name 1 one perk that activates when someone else unhooks themselves.

    tome challenges? daily rituals? achievements?

these are all reasons to sit down and let the person unhook you.

but no... you want 1.5k bps...

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3632547#Comment_3632547

perks you might have didn't activate. that negatively impacted the match.

    • might? you doing this on a guess? no. be sure.
    • again, perks. also they might need rescues for some tome or ritual.

    on the general topic.

I'm not required to save you. if you decide you got this yourself, don't be surprised if I believe you.

Intentionally letting someone die on hook for no reason other than to spite them is griefing, yes. I'm not sure how you would possibly argue it wouldn't be

  • i'm sorry i can't take any complaint about "gen tunneling" seriously. sure the most efficient survivor teams that spend every second on generators can be overwhelming but saying tunneling for that instead of "gen rushing" just feels like trying to create an equivalence between a killer making sure one player doesn't get to play the game and... survivors making sure a generator doesn't get to play the game?

  • @[Deleted User] said:

There have been a few threads with a similar sentiment in the last few days. I'm convinced the average killer only player is going AFK during matches at this point.

i've made the observation before, but there's a bunch of killer players that I think should buy a few cones from their local sports supply store.

they can make a hobby of going to the local park, setting the cones up in a big triangle, and then doing sprints between the cones. they're already playing the game of DBD by just walking in a triangle pattern between 3 points; why not find a way of doing that while improving themselves as people (by working out and getting more physically fit) instead of doing it in a way that clearly makes them (and other DBD players) miserable?

Then tell me how I'm supposed to play with people

Perhaps I should just try to unhook myself in front of others as well, and maybe even wait in a corner during the whole game to get the hatch

Surely this will make you happy as a teammate

ah yes taking a 4% chance when your teammate is near but the second stage isn't is exactly the same as refusing to partake in the primary objective, I too am extremely smart

  • love the people admitting to griefing their teammates for using an intended mechanic in a risk free way. very smart thing to do on the bhvr forum

  • To add onto this, unfortunately BHVR reps have said here that you need to report people in-game first, and then send in any additional evidence using the form RP mentioned here. You can try submitting it online without the initial report, but you're probably out of luck :(

This system prevents people with the same name as cheaters being banned (for example, if a cheater changed their name to imitate a famous streamer to try get the streamer banned that wouldn't work) but it also runs into the problem you noticed

  • @RpTheHotrod said:

Literally never said that. Don't spread misinformation. Also, maybe you're new to the game, but survivors have a variety of tools to escape a killer if they were on a gen. We aren't talking about just things like surge. Killers will want to obviously kick a gen that's being focused on. If that's the only gen survivors are touching, then it's not a true camping situation - it's the only objective to defend. Survivors can entirely get 5%+ in then hoof it the moment they hear a terror radius. Killer will want to start regressing it. Not to mention, if the killer chases, they got 3 more survivors that pop right back onto the gen. Forcing 8 regressions is easy. The only alternative would be for the killer to not kick the gen, but that's practically handing it over at that point.

No matter how you cut it, this update will absolutely affect killers who are not campijg a 3 gen.

it's a perfectly apt summary of what you said

you presented a scenario where one specific gen was the only gen survivors were going after and that they went down to surge 8 times next to it, and then you described it as ridiculous that you might have to let that gen get completed in that extremely specific scenario. sorry you don't like the accurate summary of what you said

  • @RpTheHotrod said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3630078#Comment_3630078

Not necessarily. If that's the only gen the survivors are giving attention to, then there is no other gen to bother defending. Killers are expected to just go sit in a corner afk while the survivors work on it? Defending gens is literally one of the things killers are supposed to do. What's lame is when they park their butt at a 3 gen from the beginning of the match and never leave, but if survivors are all barreling onto 2 or 3 center gens from the get go, the killer is just suppose to accept the fact that he will be forced by the survivors' hands to hit his 8 early on and have to just hand the gen over? That's a ridiculous notion.

"i got all the survivors on death hook or close to it, and now I have to give up a whole one (1) gen for it? ridiculous"

Fail to dodge 8 flashlight save should lose the game...

Also if someone gets 8 downs in range to surge a gen, and the gen is being worked on (surge doesn't apply to an empty gen), *and* the gen was still not completed over that time, that's called camping the gen, that is indeed the scenario this was made to counter

  • You can do some fun stuff with it, like looking in one direction while walking in another.

Maybe BHVR can count the number of times survivors, on average, leave a generator without getting in a chase, add a few to that number, and have the punishment happen there. Survivors seemed perfectly fine when BHVR used that logic to create damage immune generators.

And like I said before, BHVR could alternately just lower the terror radius values, to give survivors less warning. Or have the terror radius numbers temporarily be lowered, if the killer hasn't been in a chase after a certain amount of time. Maybe the terror radius numbers can be dynamic, where eventually they get really low if it has been a very long time without a chase, to help the killer get into the next chase.

If they implement that, killers will just exploit the system by excessively moonwalking as they approach a generator to force survivors to use up their pre-leaving stacks (I trust you see the point I'm trying to make here)

  • None of those are anything close to bannable. If you're satisfied with the number of hooks you got with your killer and want to goof around with the survivors, that's allowed. If you want to give yourself up to the killer that's allowed, so long as you're doing it at a time where it won't change the course of the match (if multiple gens are left with 2 survivors, or if all gens are done and your teammates are probably out safe). In some cases giving up your life to help others escape is probably a really good team play

The rule exists only to prevent survivors from intentionally harming other survivors by leading the killer to them. That's the only real thing that breaks that rule.

  • cutest? probably Cheryl or Nancy

there are other survivors that I would describe using other adjectives like Hot, Ripped, Curvy, Handsome, etc. but i think those two fit "cute" more than anyone else

  • @Seraphor said:

reverse beartraps are kind of useless as they barely slow the game

    What?

These are some of the best innate slowdown of any killer.

Using all 4 reverse bear traps is a guaranteed 12 Jigsaw box searches, which have to be completed for survivors to escape if placed before the final gen is finished.

12 seconds per search makes that 144 seconds in total, that's the equivalent of an additional 1.5 generators. Plus travel time between boxes, and they can be interrupted, and you can intercept survivors between boxes, so it's usually significantly longer than that.

but you forget that it's literally impossible for an M1 killer to get a down, ever, so it's basically the same as having no slowdown

I understand it perfectly. The OP doesn't give any context whatsoever and just complains that the four of them went down and threatened to report the killer for something they are well within their right to do.

i love how i pointed out that OP's ultimate point is that he thinks the killer shouldn't be allowed to 4 slug people, and you responded by

-claiming you understood the point of OP's post, but then

-repeated your claim that "the killer is allowed to 4 slug if he wants" without responding to the "should be able to" argument

an actual coherent response would involve explaining why killers should be allowed to 4 bleed out, why allowing such a playstyle is healthy for the game; not simply repeating the same point that doesn't actually relate to what OP's saying

The only perks that give a higher boost to repair speed than 6% are prove thyself, overzealous and sole survivor. Prove Thyself requires working with someone, overzealous requires cleansing/blessing a totem, and sole survivor requires you to literally be the last one alive.

Meanwhile with deja vu, you just get the boost if you work on one the multiple generators shown to you at all times. And since it's 3 generators, at any point after the first gen is done, that means this boost applies to half or more of the generators in the map.

and resilience and quick gambit are faster than deja vu as well. in fact, of all the perks that directly increase generator speeds, only friendly competition has less of an effect

  • @tippy2k2 said:

Talking about a per generator basis. That generator in seconds has already lost nearly half the charges for the rest of the match

let's see. you have 3 slugs and know where the 4th survivor is. you can easily either get multiple hooks or chase down the last survivor. the survivors have yet to complete a generator.

genuinely, why in the world are you worried that less than slightly less than half of your regression on one generator is gone in this situation? "oh no, I can only three-slug the entire enemy team 17 more times before I'm no longer able to regress generators, and then I'm in trouble"

Like I said, this is the update people like you deserve. Your perspective on the game is so skewed that you couldn't even recognize you had already won the game, you were so worked up about not being able to regress one of the gens anymore. With this update, hopefully you'll get the chance heal the way you think about the game and not get trapped in the mindset of "must regress generator"

  • @RpTheHotrod said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3623999#Comment_3623999

I have had 3 regression events within seconds of each before. That's nearly half of my charges gone for the entire match in under a minute. That's simply not scalable.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/deadbydaylight/s/kOOkEYxO5X

...do you think the 8 charges is for the entire match?

it's per generator. each generator has 8 charges. that's like 5% of your total charges

  • a lot of people in this thread really failing to understand just how big the number 8 is, in terms of "number of times to blow up the same generator, as a killer"

i highly doubt regression power will take anywhere near the hit you think it will. if you truly are going to be affected by this change, good tbh this is the change you deserve

  • @GentlemanFridge said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3623578#Comment_3623578

Twice per match, and even then that'd only work if you're the obsession.

    That's a non-issue, I'd say.

you can have a teammate heal you up off the ground to chew through STBFL stacks. honestly seems like a bit of a time commitment for counterplay but being what it is, I think maybe "when the killer removes a health state from the obsession by any means" to prevent that scenario (and that one renato perk nobody uses) specifically

  • W update. Finally Grim Embrace gets its time in the spotlight

I would increase the "regression event" amount to 5% to be in line with the gen kick regression but 2.5% is fine

    @CLHL said:

Ruin is a regression event? Because if that's the case these changes would make that perk even worse, you could use it to your advantage to exhaust the 8 events.

That would literally take as long to do as just straight up repairing the generator

In order to get the regression event, the survivor would first need to repair the gen for 2.25 seconds (90 sec/gen * 2.5% = 2.25 sec)

Then, the survivor would need to get off the generator and wait for the 2.5% of the gen to regress.

Since normal regression speed is 25% of repair speed, that takes 9 seconds (2.25 sec / 0.25% = 9 sec)

So, in order to deal with 1 regression event, the survivor would have to waste 11.25 seconds (2.25 sec + 9 sec = 11.25 sec)

In order to deal with all 8 regression events, the survivor would have to repeat this process 8 times. (11.25 sec * 8 = 90 sec)

The survivor would be better off getting the gen to 100% and making sure it can't get regressed that way, rather than keeping the gen at 0% while making sure it can't get regressed further down the line.

edit: I see a BHVR employee has noted that ruin doesn't count as a regression event, which makes that even better. however, I put a lot of work into proving that even if it were, intentionally burning regression events is a nonviable strategy for survivors and i'm not gonna delete that work

I really don't think it's a good idea of trying to work out intent to ban people and from what I've seen devs write in these forums they are not keen to do that either. It gets messy and catches a lot of people who were not trying to be toxic.

[edit: my current frustrations with the state of the game, the toxicity of the player base, and BHVR's apparent apathy to these problems aside,] i was simply explaining how one might go about detecting the most obvious instances of killers intentionally being toxic. i would imagine that "humping" a survivor who is well within range of a hook for an extended period of time would qualify as intentionally toxic and is not something anyone would do accidentally in the course of simply trying to play efficient

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/401786/purposefully-bleeding-survivors-to-death-should-be-a-punishable-offense

How would you prove that someone did it to antagonize other people vs doing it to gain an advantage?

I would say a good start would be to look for instances where the killer frequently changes between walking forward and backward while in close proximity of a downed survivor while also on close proximity of a hook

I totally disagree. The perk is the best tracking perk just for the few killers that can get to the survivor before he has the chance to hide or get to a loop (i.e. high mobility killers). For the rest, it's a nice perk that allow you to find nearby hidden survivors at max. In fact, it is Nº 18 in Nightlight with just a 6.47% use.

And as @GannTM said, even the first complains about the perk was about the blindness effect more than anything. Remove the effect from the perk and you would see how almost nobody would mind the perk being like it is now.

People are running Calm Spirit more than Vigil according to Nightlight (3.3% and 2.1% of builds respectively); CS being the tracking counter and Vigil being the blind counter (with the added bonus that Vigil also synergises with exhaustion whereas calm spirit doesn't really synergise with much else)

also the assertion that "the first complaints about the perk" were blindness related confuse me because anyone I've seen mention the blind did so as an explicit afterthought to the tracking ("why does it also have a blind on top of the already op tracking," that kind of thing) but I'll assume we just saw different people's posts so I guess moot point

  • I only ever slug for the 4k if both of the last survivors are in the same gemeral area and I see them. Not gonna play hide and seek.

If I have a 4k challenge or adept I'll take a hatch offering and try to keep it in mind but I'm not too upset if I don't get the challenge first try - just an excuse to play another round

  • The counterplay is recognizing the wraith player is someone that does that and greeding the resources (pallets, DH, etc) you would otherwise use

Sorry you don't enjoy DBDs new player experience. This game has been expertly crafted and tweaked for almost 8 years so your experience must be intended by the developers, the only other option would be that they are incompetent which can't be true. My best advice would to continue to play solo q as that role really shines once you get some experience with the game.

No amount of game design can force bitter jerks to not be bitter jerks

  • Yeah bud there's a vocal minority of killer players that have a Pavlovian response to the word "slug" and accuse anyone complaining about slugging in specific niche circumstances such as slugging for the 4k (i.e, there are 2 living survivors, one got pulled out of a locker, and the killer drops them to try find the other survivor who is across the map) or slugging for 4 bleed outs, as if they were saying that slugging under any circumstances (survivor under pallet with opponents nearby, etc) is morally wrong. It's gonna be hard to have a meaningful discussion if we continue get those types in the thread

Yes... if a killer works hard in chasing and downing and hook a new survivor, especially when Survivors can technically speed run their objectives speeds efficiently if they split up and literally knock out 3 out of the 5 gens in 90 seconds (faster with toolboxes, perks, no map wide pressure).

What better reward incentive to not punished tunneling then allow the killer to literally damage a completed generator on the map and take back a generator for the survivor needing to complete it. Obviously, you can only do this 4 to maybe 8 times, if we want to be generous; but it can only be used once and it will also be up to the killer on whatever or not; they want to go find a complete generator to damage and take away quarter of repair and risk the Survivors to eventually come back to it and fix it back up again; or used the 15% on any non completed generator on the map.

The killer of course, it can only used it once; until they hook another survivor. It cannot be stack together and be used to single handle complete reset any generator progress. Plus, it can be used in the Endgame before the exit gates are open; by hooking a Survivor and knocking a generator or even more, if you down multiple Survivors and hook them at a time; would be the Survivors would be back to square one (expected they need to return to the complete Genators and fix it back up again.

If we also want to make it less problematic, why not add a "bonus objective" for survivors and give them the ability to repair the additional last two Generators, along with the five generator that needs to be completed. If the Survivors teams are smart enough, having all 7 Gens fixed up means the killer Cannot simple kick enough completed gens in time, to simply stop the Survivors from attempting to open the exits.

Well, one thing's for sure, that would disincentive tunneling

If it was up to me to punish "hard tunneling" while not punished non tunneling killers whom work hard in chase for downs and hooks; I would simply remove the Endurance status effect perks and reworked the BT Basekit mechanic off hooks to be... no more bodyblocking/hit collision with the Survivor that recently just got off the hook.

For example as a scenario: You are Survivor A that gets caught and put on the hook; and you happen to be unhook soon afterwards, regarding if the killer is far away or very close. Usually, the killer will go after you for multiple reasons (they see you as the weak link and free kill, they see bodyblocking the rescuer and decide to wait out the endurance timer, have a grudge agaisnt you, etc.) And secure a free down and hook afterwards, especially if you are on death hook and make it a easy 3v1.

But, with the removal of endurance and now you literally have no Collison with the killer, especially when they tried to attack you; they realized soon enough it is completly pointless worthless to tunnel as you will not be able forced into a situation in which you end up leaving the game so soon, because of bad play or intentional exploiting your endurance status effect for extra speed and time, for you and your teammates.

Of course, the free no Collisions effect is not permanent, as if that unhooked survivor decided to fo any conspicuous actions such as fixing a Genator, getting healed, and even unhooking another survivor in front of the killer, or even if the killer hooks another survivor afterwards, especially once all the generator are done. By then, the no collision is gone until you get hook again.

But of course, it would also be a killer nerf too, since sometimes they need to tunnel to buy themselves time when they are losing gens and the four survivor are still alive and hammering gens. I would also like to add a killer Buff, to make hooking a unique different Survivor everytime will grant a basekit 15% gen regression to any gens they see, or even 25% to any completed generator they see, to give themselves a great reward for seeking different survivor and buying themselves time. Of course, to prevent the killer from exploiting this to only survivor A and B and back to A and repeat; the game could also provide a basekit BBQ to any unique survivors in the trial, so that Survivor A and B can have a chance to keep on playing without being exploit with possible tunneling for free regression. With this mechanic implement, all 4 survivors need to be at least hook once, before the regression can be "reset" and apply again when hooking four survivor again, and then one last time.

Any chance to improve the killer experience with less gen rushing potionial while encouraging them to seek different survivors without the need to tunnel in the first place, would be a step in the right direction.

I feel like I'm misunderstanding this. Are you saying that you think when killers hook a survivor that hadn't been hooked yet, they get the power to un-complete a gen and regress it back to 75% completion (take 25% progress off of it)?
