My escape rate jumped to 100% as soon as I bought the skin. Now my new main surv as well. Trying to make it a thing that Alucard players are cracked loop gods.
I have now been convinced of the age old vampire superiority trope. All non-vamp survs are inferior beings.

I swear I get more escapes and loop better as Alucard too. And they feel super hard to catch. I had this chad Alucard in one of my Oni games (I'm a baby Oni and still learning to play him well for funsies; I was doing Killer/Perk shuffle for my birthday a few days ago to have fun) and he looped me so so well that I had to let the man have hatch.
I feel like Killers are nicer to Alucards, and I get amazing reactions from Draculas and Trevors too. It seems like Alucard has this aura of hero energy that just… it's just untouchable. Which makes me really regret because I'll eventually need an Alucard for my Ghostface Mori album and like… I can't kill this man. I just can't kill this man. He's too damn majestic, I feel actively bad doing it, it feels wrong.
Dhampyr and Vampires are simply the superior beings and should be respected as such. I can't explain it.
Also thank you @TheArbiter for warning me about that; I noticed that stalk bug in a Myers match I was in as Alucard and it weirded me out he could stare at me without being able to stalk. I'll need to be cautious about Alucard then especially since I main Ghostface and occasionally play as Myers too. Surely that's a bug, right?
Seems like pay to win to me. Needs nerfing. REMOVE THE CAPE! 🔥🐽🔥

You said "killers need to recognize their mistakes and get better" is not a balance argument
You also said, paraphrased, "survivors need to recognize their mistakes and get better" in the context of making a balance argument.
The fact you did this in consecutive posts, and the fact you didn't realize this, and didn't realize this is what I was pointing out, speaks wonders. I truly think there's nothing I can further say to you that will help you see the reality of this game's current balance state.
You ignored my answers. The game does not tell you to make mistakes.
Your still not giving me a balancing proposal for players playing badly.
I said multiple times that i know how this game is balanced. Its balanced around:
- who makes more mistakes
- who brings the stronger stuff
I also stated that i dont think that this is fine.
Getting better is part of balancing. You try to balance around better players. I said that did I not:
"This goes for both sides. Killers should learn how to create pressure effectively as well as using their power optimally and survivors should understand gen agency, smart unhooking and looping."
I dont think this discussion leads to anything because you keep dodging my arguments.
Edit: there is a difference between making a balancing argument and making a balancing suggestion. A killer seeing their mistakes is not a balancing suggestion. A balancing suggestions is something like: "more pallets / safeer loops / better anti tunnel…" because, where does it lead if the killer saw something like: "oh, i wasnt able to play around that tile. should have left"? In the next game, the killer will still not be able to play around that tile.

I propose killers recognize that if it takes that many survivor mistakes for them to win, they're probably making a whole lot of mistakes that they aren't acknowledging or even noticing.
Where is that a balancing suggestion?

Humans make mistakes. You probably make dozens of misplays a game and don't even realize it. It's up to you to recognize and punish the mistakes your opponent makes - the game isn't handing you a win because your opponents are human.
You're asking for a game where your opponents make no mistakes and you still have a fair shot of winning without feeling like you're struggling. You're asking for a singleplayer game against AI at that point.
No. You dont get it.
First: the game does not tell you to make mistakes. The players do.
Second. I dont want survivors to make 0 mistakes. I NEVER said that. However, the amount of mistakes that lead to a weak killer with one regression perk winning is substantial. Im asking for players learning, using common sense and playing better before calling something op. This goes for both sides. Killers should learn how to create pressure effectively as well as using their power optimally and survivors should understand gen agency, smart unhooking and looping.
This is the same reason why pig was on a watch list despite her changes barely being a buff. Thats why Freddy got nerfed regardless when he came out despite being a really bad killer from the get go.
I demanding playing well, not perfect by any mean but well, so much to ask for?
If i may ask, what do you propose to compensate for bad play then?

Idk what to tell you man that's how the game works maybe you just don't like the game 🤷♂️
What? I know that the game makes me win due to survivors playing badly. However, the solution to that is survivors playing better. Not catering to bad play.
-
@ratcoffee said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3792526#Comment_3792526
I mean what you're describing here is you winning because you punished survivor mistakes harder than they punished your mistakes and losing because they made fewer mistakes than you. The capacity for misplays to happen and the level to which they affect the outcome of the game is part of the game balance, not some confounding external factor.
I once read a review for a short film that bashed it because one of the characters was a little girl, and they said the story wouldn't have had as much emotional resonance with audiences if the character was an adult man, for instance. You're not reviewing the film at that point, you're reviewing a different version of the film that you have invented and intentionally made worse. The film didn't have an adult man in that one role, so the reviewer should not have criticized it for what it would have been like if that were the case. The game's mechanics lead to survivors making mistakes, so it's wrong to discount the effects of those mistakes in discussing game balance.
No. The games mechanics dont lead to survivors making mistakes. Thats is completely wrong. If a survivor understands that gens are important, they will not do chests to get a green key. If a survivor know that they play against a weak killer power, they will beeline to shack to waste as much time as possible. The game does not tell you "dont use check spots". The game also doesnt tell you to not drop that pallet or get overconfident because you play against a trapper.
Most of the games im winning due to survivors playing bad. If we balance about survivors playing bad all the time, then the ones that dont play bad will dominate.
Highly disagree.

The casting of Frank Stone has ALOT of dbd references and playing through the game has me wondering will BHVR add or hide dbd content from frank stone to dbd? For instance:
Frank stone chapter: Their is a main monster/killer that has weird powers that could be included to dbd as a chapter
Generator Changes: Frank stone has a dbd generator that needs 2 parts to complete a gen 50% per part
Please dont tell me I have to fix gens in that game as well…

I remember, when a starstruck nurse went against the "best team in the world" with no limitations and slugged them at what. 3 gens left?
Glad thats gone. To answer the question, the only killer that can keep up with absolute survivor optimum is a nurse that is 100% on point.

I think how many kills you get in each game would be a better thing to track than map offerings. Either you're losing as or more often than you're winning, which (respectfully) makes you an exceptional player, or you're winning more often than not, which is the only fair metric of balance.
Even better, documenting how often a large sample of players get each result would be even more helpful, because then we're looking at a more statistically representative sample of the game's player base instead of a single potentially exceptional sample space. Which is why I brought up Nightlight in my other comment that I was working on when your post came in.
To confirm you, yes. Im still winning most of my matches as pig. However, whats important is to look at why. Why is the reason important? Because your talking about overall balance.
I win because of:
- soloq - communication mistakes
- overconfidence of survivors after me losing 4 gens for one down
- survivors trying to go for flashy saves / pallet saves
- survivors going for totems / chests
- survivors going for uneccessary bodyblocks when i have stbfl
- survivors not understanding how the trap rng work
- survivors making basic mistakes in looping and pathing
- survivors misusing strong perks
- survivors giving up because they went down first
- survivors giving up because i play pig
- survivors giving up because x reason
There are cetainly some more reasons that i cant think of right now. Most of these come down to survivor mistakes. Not to me being exceptionally good at the game. I play pig. Wasting a pigs time is not hard due to her chase being awful.
The teams i relatively consistently lose against are the teams that focus on gens, never do uneccessary stuff, are all solid in looping, go to areas where there is nothing to defend for me, making me lose more time for the down than i gain, use strong items, offerings and perks and showcase good pathing. They also pre drop and shift w.
If i lose against these guys, this has nothing to do with me being so bad at dbd, its me reaching the limit of what i can do with the tools im given.
You can of course think otherwise.

I'm forced to practice nurse when I lose to surv perks, though I feel uncomfortable after blinking, my M2 hit rate obv higher than 90%, and I'm still tired in map control, surv can win just cuz of OP perks. I feel everything I tired to slow gen rush helps nothing, injury or hooking won't slow it down, they also heal fast for no reason, I don't dare to split hook and I'm forced to tunnel, then facing against anti-tunnel perks. Obv survs perks are stronger in both value and mechanics than killer's. I strongly doubt that all the staffs are survs only.
You dont need nurse. Your becoming like those people you dislike if you play her out of this reason.

I also actually think Survivor is fun to play right now, but I think it's actually nothing to do with Killers being too strong and everything to do with SoloQ players being selfish as usual or just bad which is what ruins it. SWF is much much better. I don't appreciate the misinterpretation of my comment, either. My point was that Survivors should also be able to find fun in games they are losing the way Killers have to. Both sides need to chill out and find the fun in losing sometimes, this game should not be this competitive.
Still a both sides player BTW. No quotation marks needed. :)
I really enjoy your mindset. Agree!

I agree, Hold W is definitely not skillful play and should be gently discouraged, I believe this is what the Devs are trying to do with some map reworks. Holding W could get you in a dead zone on those maps, and that's why it's a liability. If it were like that on many maps, and pallets were not so dense on some maps, this playstyle would fall out of favor pretty fast.
Which would be fine by me. I think survivor skill expression is in looping, mindgameing at tiles and perfect pathing. Leaving with iron will is low effort with big reward. Especially against killers with low mobility.
I know that this opion might be a hot take, but i play that game for chases mostly. Thats one of the reasons I main pig. I find the mindgame aspect of m1 killer gameplay the most enjoyable part of dbd. Therefore i despise pre dropping and shift w. Iron will sadly promotes shift w.
Now dont get me wrong. I dont say: "erase these playstyles!" They have their place in the game the same way that tunneling and camping do. Sadly. Doesnt change the fact though, that they are pretty boring and unfun to play against.

Accounting for the full range of player skill distribution, the current balance of the game leads to favorable outcomes for killer players at higher frequencies than outcomes similarly favorable outcomes for survivor. Certain killers struggling against particularly skilled, highly coordinated or over-kitted teams or on certain maps is a phenomenon but it is an exceptional one. It is indeed "killers in general" the game favors.
Not my experience playing Pig. Sure, I dont tunnel or take more than one slowdown perk, but isnt this what a nice game should be?
Every game is a real challenge for me. Also, do I really have to document how many map offerings i see per session? You wont like the ratio.

Except this was a response to a 'both sides' player who was making a claim that survivors should enjoy losing and having a giant disadvantage every game.
I personally think survivor is fun to play at the moment solely due to Iron Will being buffed which allows for a lot more skill expression. But I only play in a SWF these days.
In my opinion, leaving the loop is not skill expression, but you do you.

Genuinely don't see a reason for BL1 and new wiggle.
Maps got balanced pretty hard minus a few outliers(that are balanced out by other outliers,) no one takes Hope anymore and MFT is bad, I don't see why killers still should get BL1.
I forget the original justification for reworking wiggle but with hooks respawning I don't see why we still need new wiggle. If a killer wants to greed for a scourge hook or hooking near a gen there should be more risk.
I can understand your take on the wiggle system, but bloodlust1 is still VERY necessary for lower tier killers that mostly play m1. Bloodlust 2 and 3 are not necessary anymore imo.

Camping works on those maps. You can stand at the top of the steps preventing people from going down and this won’t trigger the anti-face camp meter. Weird double standard that it works for camping but not reassurance (even though I don’t really think it matters)
Why do you think anti camp doesnt work through floors?

Incorrect. Knight and Merchant were so bad that they had to nerf every other killer be introducing their half assed little '3 gen' mechanic to stop killers from kicking gens because it supposedly held the game hostage. They conveniently did nothing about Survivors holding a game hostage but ya know. Baby steps whenever BHVR is involved.
You mean certain individuals that played those two killers that way and the youtubers that encouraged it by making content about it?
There where people that enjoyed the killers and didnt play that way, you know?
I discourage you from generalizing the playerbase. Im a 2k+ hour pig main and have never used a screaming build for example.
-
I presume, that it would become too strong on maps like Gideon or Midwich. I do think reassurance is in a very good sport right now. Especially with hooks now lasting 70s without reassurance being touched at all.
The real problem in this scenario is more deadlock than reassurance if you ask me. A perk that gives guaranteed value for literally 0 effort.

Was my dream killer for ages. I knew it wouldn't fully live up to the hype but I'd hoped it would at least be playable.
Can't hit a damn thing with the tail attack on controller, and the excessive slowdown for missed tail attacks makes it unviable. Every M2 is like gambling at a pallet, like a coin flip as to whether you score a hit or lose the chase entirely.
Agree. Wanted to main good Xeno, but the tail just hits when ever it feels like it. Sometimes it literally phases through the survivor, leaving me mildly infuriated.
I love everything about this killer except the tail. Sadly thats what is the majority oof its gameplay.
Xenos tail should 100% be looked at. However, i dont think it will happen, due to the amount of people that will scream if the "unavoidable" power becomes usable again.

First, killers are already over powered, they don't need BBQ to be base kit. In fact, killers shouldn't even have aura reading perks.
Second, average killers are capable of killing survivors faster using hooks than slugging with ever be - put a survivor on hook three times, and they're dead, and that's if they don't give up. The only killers who think slugging is an okay thing to do are bad killers.
Third, hook placement is done is such a way where wiggling is useless. There is always a hook nearby, and even more so now that they respawn even after being used to kill a survivor.
Fourth, slugging has only become rampant because there's nothing to defend against it on the survivor's side, and bad killer are taking advantage of it. That's it - good killers don't need to slug.
True, the really good killers in comp have someonoe dead at 3 hooks. All the times.
Can we stop saying: if you do x strategy that I dont like, your bad at the game?

Fun fact, it is ruled in the terms of service, that we all sign without reading, that they can strip your right to play their game permanently at any point.
Games without hard copy like CD, DVD or Blu-ray are borrowed.
It is ridiculous but sadly reality that everything we "buy" on steam is borrowed.
We pay for the ability to play a game, not own it. That is mostly history with "games as a service".
Thats why I try to buy physical if possible.
Edit: and because it looks nice on the shelf.

This is a multiplayer game. The penalty exists to discourage quitters, not prevent it. It discourages people from quitting, because it ruins the experience for anybody else involved.

Not quite. If you play something that has no ties to anything meta, most people will play. At least from my expience. In the last few months I just played stbfl with 3 other random perks that are not meta on piggy. Had very few people actually quit.

Know the feeling, play badly on a killer that is "known" for being OP or hell, even on a mid teir killer, because you just want to try them out for a change of pace and you get told to "uninstall, trash newb git gud" because how dare someone be new and or bad with a killer who strong.
No joke, I had someone tell me "GGez, baby Nurse got smoked. Uninstall and stay out of my lobby." in post-game chat. Like no #########, what clued you in that I was a "baby Nurse" ? Was it the yellow perk load out (All Ears, Bitter, Surge and Nurses) or the fact I was running her Plaid add-on which allows me to see where and how far I am blinking/teleporting? Or the fact I had no clue how her power worked even on simple loops? Like bro, would you have preferred to get smoked by a 2k hour full-aura nurse who's also slugging for the 4K? ISTG some players will never be happy.
Sorry, didn't mean to unload there. But I absolutely agree that many issues within DbD can be summed up by player toxicity, especially elevated when they've been playing for too many hours without a break or have been on an extended loss streak and they're just carrying over frustration and irritations from past matches. So they finally get an "easy" match and it breaks their brains because now they can finally release that pent-up energy and they, ofc, choose to do so in the most toxic way possible with little to no thought on how their little tantrum affects other players.
So yeah, just like you, I try to play the way I would like to see other killers try to play. Which is nice, chill where we all walk away from the match feeling like the game was tough but fair and with a decent amount of BP. Hopefully with only minor tunnelling and/or proxying (because sometimes that playstyle can't be avoided, no matter how hard you try.)
Well said! I just wish moore people would realize how their behaviour, EVEN IN A GAME, can affect others.
-
To stop proxy-camping would severely limit the freedom of the killer.
It would also widen the gap between killers in terms of strenght. The weaker ones get weaker and the strong er one barely take a hit.
I know that proxy-camping and camping as a whole is unpleasant gameplay for the survivor role, however, its is sometimes the necessary evil for killers to create some pressure.
In the current state of the game, I dont think proxy-camping should be touched.

You are a Light in the Fog. Please never change.
I agree the worst part of the game isn't the game. It's the playerbase. It's 100% the playerbase. Maybe we need more consequences for this sort of behavior. Maybe we need a system of reporting players who deliberately single out and harass or bully others. IDK. IDK what BHVR can do that wouldn't be abused.
It stems from entrenched entitlement. That's it. That's all. There's even some people on these forums way, way too comfortable with saying things like "oh you're just bad, that's why you think X is a problem." No. A problem is a problem and hw good someone may or may not be has no bearing on if that thing's an issue or not. It will still be an issue if you are good, you just know how to deal with it more and expect it.
OP I think you have hit the softcap and that is why this is happening. You struggle because you tried too hard to be too successful too much, by wanting to not just win but DOMINATE above all else. It happens to everyone eventually.
I suggest taking a long long break.
Thx.
A few weeks (months?) back a community manager asked here in the forums on how they could tackle the unpleasant ingame mindset.
I seriously hope that they start loooking into this. Its pushing more people away from their game than some of the balance updates.

You must be terribly unlucky then.

I dont play killer much anymore, but i decided to try freddy.
As soon as the survivors found out it was freddy they stopped doing gens, all 4. And then they started bullying me. When i tried to afk they started spam vaulting. After 2 matches that pretty much went the same way (not 100% but same stuff in a different package) i had enough, and i went for a killer that i play well with, and just like that survivors were nice, no toxic play or harassment at all.
I mean it could be random, but the picture i get is that some survivors are ass hats as soon as they know they have the upper hand, and not so much when its a killer they "respect"
As a pig main, i know exactly what you are talking about. I often have the feeling that people in this game, regardless of which role they play, become literally evil towards everything they deem "worse". Lower tier killer? Lets be extra rude because they lack the options to do anything about it. Lower hour survivor? Lets tunnel them out asap. No meta perks? Your getting bullied friend.
That has nothing to do with the game itself other than that the perks are availible. However, if certain perks or playstyles are nerfed, others will rise to take their place. This is truly a problem with the playerbase itself.
This is the philosophy i try to follow: treat others the way you want to be treated. Does not only work wonders in real life, but also in game. You dont have to make your opponents experience amazing, however, you dont have to make it as miserable as possible either.

It's the players that make this game awful. I had played survivor for over a year now and it's been nothing but survivors giving up on hook, disconnecting or throwing the game on purpose.
Then when I play killers, I get the most sweatiest survivors trying to make my life as miserable as they possibly can, making the game a slog.
Why should I be playing dead by daylight when there are games that aren't miserable to play and not infested with a insufferable playerbase?

Yea they can make the game look good graphically but if the gameplay sucks then the game sucks. They can release a million chapters but nothing will change that.
But you seemingly make that statement based on a few games. This game can provide genuinely amazing matches that are a lot of fun.
Might I ask, what about the gameplay exactly is that you dislike? This would really help to understand your struggle.
Edit: I for myself really enjoy the game itself. What I struggle with is the often unbearable playerbase.

Im of the opinion, that people are relatively smart. Video games are, for the most part, a leisure time activity. Something you do to calm down from the stress of every day life. Therefore, a game should be fun. You would not do something that makes you hate your leisure time more than the stuff you do for a job. That would be illogical.
If a game is not fun for you. Dont force yourself to play it. Your free time is there to make you happy. Everything else is bad for your motivation and mental health.
There are a ton of other games out there that are maybe more fun for you. Single player games let you mostly play at your own pase. Online games will always connects you to other people. That is something that has to be considered when playing them. If you dont like to face 80% of killers in this game, maybe you should not play it just for the 20% of times where you have fun. Thats like playing an action adventure, where 80% of gameplay is awful stealth and only the last 30minutes is actually epic fun. Nobody forces one to play a certain game.
I encourage all that see this: think about what your doing before you hit that "ready"-button. Your decisions matter when playing online with other people.

So the game is awful in general?

Let's say EAC would detect Reshade, this means majority of Steam, MS Store and Epic Store gamers are gonna get banned and that would mean DBD would die, because I highly doubt that anyone would start to play this game again after all the grind.
Also I don't understand why using Reshade is big deal for some people.
NVIDIA settings changes brightness everywhere, that's not what I want. Putting too much Brightness on monitor isn't great solution either, because your aren't supposed to destroy your eyes with unnecessary light, besides some people are more sensitive to light than others.
My monitor brightness is very dark by default, and I want brightness in most of the games I play, however, in DBD, it's not about wanting, it's about NEEDING. I also use higher brightness on monitor when playing DBD, because 50% brightness nor my Reshade alone isn't enough.
I literally have 2 filters on my Reshade, other one is slight brightness boost and other one I don't remember, because I don't notice difference.
If you dont notice any difference with the second, then why have it at all?

I agree with most people here. Map offerings are too strong and should either change to make a map not being chosen or deleted completely.
For most people its the final infinity stone for their optimization-gauntlet.

But therein lies the problem. The same program that can "just increase the brightness a bit" can be used to increase the red stain such that it can be seen through cracks in walls in ways that normally it could not be seen. So this program can be used to go into the territory that you already agree is a "cheat". So in light of that, there's no way BHVR can allow this program to be used in a way that lets them see HOW it is being used and then ban those that are using it a little "too much"
Thats why I think bhvr should add an in game toggle option to increase brightness and keep any outside software as it is. That way, all but the cheaters are happy.
