We'll have to agree to disagree. They have went overboard because it's basically a killer playing ground now. I don't know anyone worth their weight that doesn't win a majority of their matches, easily. Balance is horrible.
Depends on what the loadout is.

"Nerfed to the ground"? No, that's actually survivors you are talking about. If you honestly think it's balanced for a killer to get a haste like she got.
If you want to call it hate train. I have no remorse for all the SMs that slugged a team and then humped them on the floor. Knowing she was overpowered and unfun to verse.
Only the Skull Merchants that slug and bm on ground right? Thats many players in general. Players in this game are horrible to each other in general. Survivors have received a number of nerf over the years because the game was basicly a survivor playing ground back in the days.

i don't support survivors disconnecting vs skull merchant. the answer is complicated. i think BVHR weakening the killer for survivor to easily escape is good move in short term. the problem is that it is bad in long-term because killer often take YEARS to get changed back to relevancy/playable status.
let's say d/c rate for skull merchant is 50% and than d/c rate goes down to 10% after 6 months of skull merchant being bad. that killer now needs improvements/reverts in some cases because the killer is under-powered and not fun for killer player on average. The unfortunate reality that killer changes that positive changes often get pushed back and even ignored post-changes. A year from now, BVHR might look skull merchant stats and go like… yeah she's 59% kill-rate. that is pretty high. no need for any rework.
that how you get like freddy that is labelled as one worst killer in the game unchanged for 2 years not changed. he still has 61% kill-rate even though vast majority of killer player rate him as the worst killer in the game. I find deathslinger to also be unfun to play with his long wind-up but he is also not changed. so often, negative changes for killer persist too long.
I agree with you on that. I dont want to see another Freddy happen, therefore im against these changes unless a rework gets confirmed for a specific time in the near future.

What happens if another killer or perk is fundamentally problematic? Do we just need to obliterate it with 5 nerfs until a rework comes whenever BHVR sees fit?If it's actually problematic? Yes. Ideally you would rework something, or change if its overtuned, but obliterating something is preferable to it ruining the game.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3800431#Comment_3800431
Twins like 3? And they still messed up the rework. Onryo they reworked and even the mains said it was a mistake to the point they had to take her back.Twins and Sadako were different issues.
Twins was being reworked because of complaints from both survivors and killers (though for survivors nothing on the level of skull merchant). They failed at the rework pretty spectacularly, but it had a different origin.
Sadako is a tough case. A playstyle emerged that caused problems and instead of an addon nerf they did a character overhaul. I'd disagree with the idea though that the mains disliked her versions. Some people really liked it, and some players hated it. People seem to have differing opinions on her various iterations.
OG Sadako main here. Stopped playing her when version 2.0 hit. Then started the #bringbackSadako - movement which helped to create version 3.0. Sure, you will always find people that like certain versions more than the last, but from what I seen many other OG players express is, that the second version was despised by a majority of them. I had pretty big support back then.

Her power is bloated, a tiny crack is not the problem though. A responsible dev can't sit and allow a majority of their playerbase to play against a problem. They already made a terrible disservice allowing her to be a problem for soooooo long.
Its also a disservice to intentionally ruin a product many people paid for. And according to what many people heard, this is literally supposed to ruin the character.

i think your over-thinking it. they're nerfing skull merchant because survivor disconnect too frequently vs the killer. by nerfing the killer, the killer will be more easily 4 man out and grant free wins for survivor. this will make survivor play more games vs skull merchant.
i think very obvious problem will be that skull merchant will be very low play-rate due to being weak so even survivor does d/c less, they'll play vs merchant very little.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3799647#Comment_3799647
this precedent has been there for many killers. freddy is pretty much F-tier because survivor complaining about his gameplay.
I dont think that this is how this "problem" should be handled though.

I'm glad they're continuing to work on her kit. You can argue that this isn't a great way to deal with the situation in the interim, but something is certainly wrong with this killer and needs to be fixed long term.
I'm glad they're looking into it, and hopefully they can find a rework that is both fun to play as and against.
I would prefer for this to happen sooner than later. Or again, some form of official statement about the situation.

P100 Skull merchant here. The haste being removed is a good change. The only other thing I would have changed about her is adding a timer that allows scans to fall off after about 30 seconds.
Im with you about the haste. It made her basiv´cyl unstoppable at amny loops. At least from my experience. The changes however seem to not be targeted towards balancing her but making her unappealing to play. Hence why I would love to see an official statement.

@SoGo said:
I’ll say remove her completely, give people who bought her a refund, rework her from the ground up (upgraded or a completely new power, fixed lore and tonally consistent cosmetics) and re-release her into the game.
Might as well do it instead of creating this fiasco.
I recall being refunded in DBD being close to impossible. Especially with a product this largely sold.
It might be a better solution though. The steps taken here are pretty drastic.

Well, the same conversation happened when both nerfs for legion and freddy were announced, so this isn’t new.
People that playted with this characters became sad and made several posts to bhvr to not nerf them into the ground, but they did.
Which was awful then and is awful now.
-
@adam1233467 said:
Guys, this is not the first time they nerf a character to the ground, they already did this with legion and freddy.
Legion, Freddy and Skull merchant shares the same idea, these three characters on realease, or reworked (Freddy) were to boring to go against and it takes no skill to play with them, legion was too strong on realease, nerfed to the ground and barely buffed some years ago, Freddy had slowdown addons and combined with old thanato and sloppy made the match too boring to do gens, freddy has not received a buff yet, the same thing will happen with skull merchant, they will nerf her to the ground until they dicide to change of buff her, nothing new.
Maybe its time to go against this practice then? I dont want another Freddy to happen to be honest. I personally dont enjoy facing or playing the Skull merchant, but I feel bad for the people that do.

bc ppl are easily driven by the wrong intentions. they only make them overpowered to get people to buy it then it's all about survivors again. look at freddy. i remember playing him for a week when i started playing havn't touched him since. when people spend money on something they dont need to consistently go back and make it work against you. noone is gunna be amazing at a game instantly. it takes time to progress and get better.
- "noone is gunna be amazing at a game instantly. it takes time to progress and get better"
I wish more people would share your sentiment.
Its not consistent, that characters get made worse only a few weeks after their release. Besides Pig, im a Sadako-main since she came out. Sadako was left in a relatively weak state for over a year before she got an update. This update completely ruined her for me but undeniably buffed her in strenght. She again remained that way for a good amount of time. Many og - fans including me shoulted long and loud here on the forums about the state of her until they finally announced her second update, which pushed her towards her original state. This, more or less, gave me back the killer i enjoyed so much. Is she perfect now? No. She still needs adjustments. But she is undeniably better than the first version and a lot more healthy and fun than the second version ever was.

exactly he was a waste of money. i don't have what i paid for. feels like a scam. lmao they shouldnt change characters like this it's wasting our money and time. if anything says they don't care about their player base it's that. i get healthy changes but come on. ppl watched the killer b4 hand then bought him and now the lost him. and it was hard to dodge bc there are actually real life people that know how to aim in videogames lmao. most ppl who play this game hardly put any effort in it so obviously they are gunna do bad. they want to go pallet for pallet without a single thing to change. actual gamers wanna see them make a horror game that surpasses any of our expectations. something original and authentic. game modes and stuff theres a million things they could do they just either lack the care, resources or understanding. i rant a lot idk
Well, as much as i dislike the recent trend of releasing a character strong just to see them nerfed literally weeks later, i have to defend BHVR here. DBD is a live service game. We pay to play the game, not own it. If they decide to change a character then thats up to them. Best we can do is give constructive criticism and hope that it reaches their ears. Thats how i ended up here.
A developer always cares about their playerbase. Why would they not. Why would a dog bite the hand that feeds them?

true it honestly is really frustrating to me to have it lock so forcefully. idk i wont ever touch him again lmao and they nurfed ultimate so it was a waste of money. i'm starting to realize they make it overpowered at first to get people to buy it then they make it more appealing to survivors. high mmr is like going to a waterpark for survivors u dont have to worry about a thing unless u see huntress or trickster. i don't even try to loop him i just give up. no point to main event takes away any fun u could have with looping him
I play Pig at a decently high level (at least i win a lot and go against "comp" players, so i assume, im where they are at) and perform relatively well.
I wanted to main Xeno when the chapter released, because i found the gameplay to be fun and really liked the license. Xeno is stuck at p20 because i just cant bring myself to play the killer more. The tail attack just feels so incredibly frustrating to use. Id wish, that they look at the attack, but regareding the amount of "hate" this killer recieved when they came out due to the attack being "undodgable" i do not get my hopes up for anything changing soon.

Last year, my favorite killer Trickster got reworked. While I understand the devs desire to give him an upgrade, the initial version of this rework was overwhelming for a majority of the playerbase, and not really fun to play with as a long time trickster player. The devs response to the unpopularity of the initial rework (a sidegrade at best without obviously overpowered addons involved,) Trickster was then nerfed into the floor when Chucky launched.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/10YFVJTKXPFU/image.png
I had to list these hidden changes on the wiki myself, as they were not documented anywhere else.
A couple minor quality of life changes and a buff to movement speed and main event, coming at the cost of incredibly nerfed lethality, extremely easy to remove lacerations, a wide list of previously useful addons scrapped and replaced with a singular addon thats worth using, and a killer that had no gameplay or aesthetic appeal anymore. I put myself through the long, expensive P100 grind for this killer and it genuinely felt like my time and points were wasted.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/HQRQ775V6F2B/image.png
And now, same thing is happening to skull merchant. She's getting changes with the explicit purpose of making her easier to play against. Except this time: it's even worse. She's not getting any sort of compensation buff at all, she's simply becoming a weaker and worse designed killer. This won't make her any more fun to play against, it'll just make her so terrible nobody will want to play her until her later rework.
REMINDER: This killer's gameplay used to boil down to pressing M2 near a generator and getting value, yet she went untouched for months until we got the current version. Where was this energy back then?
If this trend of nerfing killers into irrelevance just because people don't like them, then start offering BP and auric cell refunds. I have little to no interest in the current version of trickster, and while i dont even really like skull merchant that much, i imagine her playerbase will feel the same. This is just genuinely alienating your players.
For reference, people are using the trickster updated as a replacement term for a character being nerfed into irrelevance or reworked so heavily they're unrecognizable ("Getting Trickstered.") People are already saying skull merchant is getting trickstered. And at this point if my killer's only appeal is as a punchline, then I'd honestly just prefer a refund of all the bloodpoints i spent on him, all the cells i spent on skins, or heck even the physical money i spent on these chapters. I just don't enjoy this type of game design.
When Skull Merchant's rework hits PTB, I will make an honest feedback post. But for now, this is just a rant. I hope you can all understand where I'm coming from with this, even if you don't like trickster or skull merchant.
I agree! "Solving" the skull merchant "issue" is not by making her so horribly bad and untertuned that nobody is playing her. Its awful that it happened to Freddy and its awful here. It truly feels like: "lets just make this character so bad that nobody will play them. Then we dont have to focus on them for a longer time". How long has it been since Freddy got a rework announced?

Good news is that she's actually getting another rework, later. They're just temporarily gutting her so people will stop complaining about her until then, which frankly they could have just written in the patch notes.
Is it just me, or does this seem pretty awful towards the people that play and enjoy her?
I know, there would be an outcry if this happened to other killers.

not sure what to tell you. get better at ending chases quickly. not every survivor is likely to run this perk and it is not exactly good for entire team to run it given that only half team is likely to get chased on average.
I can't end chases quickly around safe tilesas an m1 killer against very decent survivors. That's not in the cards. Killers with awful early game like Pig, Myers and Freddy will hate this perk.
I hope you are correct, that nobody would run this perk. Regardless, i expect this to not make it to live servers.

https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3797372#Comment_3797372
typically if your good at killer, your chases very short so the life-time of the perk is very small and you need a lot of chase time for 5% to make a difference as opposed to deja vu that is higher % and is constantly active with no down time outside of being chased. you need loop for whole 90 seconds for the perk to shave few seconds of gens. the perk is a lot better because it is global but the downside might not make a that attractive for survivor to use, so it might needs another buff to remove its cooldown before it becomes as wide-spread as chase based deja vu. Deja vu being the generator jocky thing.
It does not matter how good you are as killer. If you play m1 against something like shack, you will not get the hit fast. Im talking about low tier killers. I know why killers like Huntress will be less effected by a perk like this.

Now here is something I was really hoping would not happen again. I guess not even five years of seeing the game I loved slowly disappear was enough to teach me what to expect.
So, if you weren't around for the first time Lights Out was available, let me explain the situation: Freddy wasn't playable. Literally the only killer in the game to be excluded from the modifier. And as a Freddy main, it stung, but it was understandable.
I mean, it was the very first modifier. Freddy being adjusted separately would require resources, and those resources could be put elsewhere, such as updates that will be available for longer than a modifier. Or at least that was the explanation I was given:
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/194IANQZ4748/image.png
But this time, Lights Out isn't new. It is the exact same modifier except for one new feature. A modifier whose issue of clashing with Freddy's Dream World was known for months. A modifier that was clearly scheduled to return.
So why wasn't Freddy adjusted for it this time?
The Dream World used to be darker when Freddy first released, ya know. It could be done. Or give it the effect of the old Crescent Moon Bouquet / New Moon Bouquet. Or anything, just don't exclude the character, please.
…Ah, this is too much. I love Freddy Krueger to death and I'll never give up on him, but the hits just keep on coming. A character that was perfect on release, got changed far too soon after a nerf that even Cote himself regretted, and since October of 2017 can't seem to catch a break.
Never be said that it is easy to be a Freddy main in DBD.

most of the perks look pretty irrelevant changes but there two perk changes that are pretty good and might see some use.
Bloodrush a little weird. i don't know why they turned it into anti-tunnel perk just to disable it in the end game but Sprint burst+Bloodrush might see more play.
The other good perk is quick gambit. it has unlimited range but they gave it a cooldown of 60 seconds which makes no sense why it needs drawback but this could good. the cooldown might make people shy away from it but in practice, a deja vu+quick gambit is 11% repair bonus which entirely revert 10 second changes to gens if you equip both perks across entire team.
for killer side, most of the perks are still bad as usual but two perk stand out are genetic limits and zanshin tatics. Genetic limit is like sloppy butcher but applies exhaustion. that is crazy strong. this will 100% get used to counter Iron will. Zanshin tactics is like wall-hack will give a lot of wall-hack for killer that do not break too many pallets on the map. very few people run Any Means Necessary on average so this will be like weak version weave attunement. It might allow you to win some mindgames on tall loop structures.
the rest of the perk are pretty bad. i am mostly sad of leverage. i thought it would be better. like… increasing duration to like 60 seconds but no.
Am i wrong? Ive read that quick gambit goes on a 60sec cooldown AFTER getting hit. That sounds awful for the early game of weaker killers. It also seems to stack.
Survivors will see each other so they will not run into each other. All i see is an unhealthy early game perk that destroys weaker killers exponentially more than stronger ones.
-
Im fine with many of them, but:
- quick gambit seems incredibly unhealthy against weaker killers
- leverage is a tunnel perk.
