  • No, it actually gets WORSE believe it or not

  • @TheMythicalCat @tinekastil2

the pointless offerings and horrible add-ons are there as basically a 'blank spot' on your bloodweb. It's more satisfying to unlock 3 things costing 3k to get to your perk that costs 5k, instead of unlocking the perk immediately for 14k. It gives you a sense of progression, even though you're only collecting garbage.

edit: It's also similar to why there are bad cards in card games. A new player might think these are useful, only to realize later that they're not useful at all. It's a small thing but it makes the player feel like they're getting better at the game, which they are.

Then enlighten me. I posted this to ask people for their perspective. Not for snarky replies.

Just having a bit of fun. I have very limited experience with Myers but I think they're fine. Small increases to certain parts of his kit, but there are a few that completely change how he plays... that I think is what the best add-ons should do. Not just strictly required stuff that needs to be constantly equipped, but weird situational stuff that lets you play around with different builds within the same killer.

That's what I don't understand. SWFs claim the killer is learning by getting the crap kicked out of them. If your playing Call of Duty and you spawn in the path of a bullet. How are you learning to play the game?

Yeah playing any game against someone who has a magnitude of hours more into the game doesn't teach you much. I remember getting matched up against Scott Jund (I was rank 13 or 10?), and i was just completely baffled. He seemed to move faster than every other player I've faced before, and it was literally impossible to catch him. Killers will learn pallet spawns EVENTUALLY, but getting hit by them over and over doesn't instantly make you a god killer

  • "XD BABY KILLER XDDDD EZ" - person who I killed

  • I don't know. I bought a bunch of killers that I want to try out, but I'm constantly getting matched against red rank SWF. Trying out new stuff is fun, but when every match is a guaranteed loss, it's bittersweet.

  • I don't know, I've noticed some survivors have worked out how to swing themselves WILDLY like some Tasmanian devil once they get hooked, and other players barely struggle at all. I don't know how to whip myself around like that since I haven't played against deathslinger at all really, despite playing with him all the time

The devs didn't mention anything about the sound bugs? How typical😑

What do you mean? If someone asked them that they'd say "we're working on it"

  • It sounds like you've got bigger problems than simply the rift being grindy or annoying.. problems that you're avoiding.

First step I would suggest is take a break from the game

The survivor on the hook can do nothing regardless. That's the whole point of the hooks.

I know, my point was that the bloodpoint+pip system is built on the game being played in a way that the killer doesn't camp, the survivors help each other and unhook each other. When that doesn't happen, the unlucky guy who gets face camped right away gets punished way too hard.

  • @bm33 said:

They just need to reward the survivor on the hook getting facecamped. Give them % gen repair and distraction points. Make it so they can safety pip rather than lose pip because they were downed early and spent match on hook.

Agreed, the survivor on the hook can do nothing in that situation besides a 4% chance to escape right in front of the killer. You can't expect the survivors to NEVER get hooked. If that was the case everyone would be dead on hook from the start.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmZrRHxmFEA

Jesus.. did they even test the map with every killer before release?

  • "Survivors are matched to a Killer as close to their rank as possible. If the Survivor is playing with a group, the highest ranked Survivor’s rank will be used for matchmaking purposes. (e.g. If a rank 1 and rank 10 Survivor are playing together, the game will search for a rank 1 Killer.) If a match of the same rank is not available, the system will gradually expand the acceptable range until it finds a match. This has a hard limit of 6 ranks above or below your rank. "

To be honest, I'm starting to think that this system ACTUALLY WORKS, however they inputted the highest rank as the highest integer, as opposed to the highest rank. So if 3 rank 1s and 1 rank 20 find a match, it'll find a killer between rank 20-14, instead of finding a killer between rank 1-6

I've been laughing to myself so hard thinking that if this is true, it would be one of the biggest blunders I can think of in gaming.

You say this as a joke but counter-strike allowed players to mod the game, making new and fun modes like Gun Game, Zombie mod, Prison Break, etc.

Sure these were fun at first, but it DECIMATED the game as it split the playerbase and no there is literally NO ONE playing counterstrike. RIP

  • Allow your KYF lobby to find more players. Basically a 'for fun' mode where everyone has every perk to try out new builds or just mess around.

But a 2v8 or 2v10 would be fun chaos

But I think what would be a lot of fun is just another mode that's not holding down M1 and doing gens. Maybe just a perkless mode where the players have to simply survive for 15 or 20 minutes, with fewer lockers.

  • I'm hyped for a new sale. I hope they do 50% off like they did with the Deathslinger, so I can just pick up every killer, and maybe a survivor or two. I started playing during that sale and didn't know if I would like this game. Turns out I love it.

  • Click their steam profile and see how many hours they played. Is it somewhere in the 1000 hours plus played, leave the lobby. I'm sorry but I've played plenty of games where I check out their stream afterward to see them and their friends (swf) just constantly make fun of me, with chat laughing along. Same thing when i see P3 survivors. There's no way in hell that we will have the same level of experience. Easy dodge.

  • I can see why they don't want to make new perks too good. If they overstep their mark and make the perk TOO good, it can feel necessary and people start criticizing that the game is P2W. Think of the top tier perks that are behind DLC - DS, Pop, BBQ, etc.

Then if they go back and nerf that OP perk, people will feel like they just spent money on a perk they wanted, which is now 'useless'. Cue more complaining.

I think they just need to get people numb to buffs and nerfs with much more small changes. Bigger buffs should be left for perks that come with the game.

  • @BloodMoneyMerc said:

Just ranted about how useless blindness is unless going for a toxic slugging build. Gave some ideas to maybe change/buff the blindness status effect so that it actually has more uses. But anyway, at the moment it is a relatively worthless effect & is why The Third Seal is the worst of the Hex perks. So, easy solution. Change the blindness status effect caused by the perk into Oblivious.

Now I notice that maybe having the perk activate on a survivor after they are hit just once might sound a little too OP if it were inflicting Oblivious onto them. That might need a bit of testing to see if it is way too strong even for a hex perk. But even then the requirement could be changed to something else in order to apply the effect. Maybe it could apply to a survivor that unhooks another survivor, a survivor that has just been unhooked, something along those lines. It would actually make The Third Seal viable & could cause a lot of mayhem if a team isn't careful about how they play out a match when going against this perk.

Alternative buff to Third Seal- throw out the survivor's rule book, remove 'toxic' from your lexicon and slug away. All's fair in love and war.

    :)

  • This game was frustrating as a new player, even playing against my friends. I remember very vividly getting healed and my friend (killer) said "you guys know I can see you, right?" and i shouted "NO, HOW WOULD I KNOW THAT!??"

This game doesn't explain anything to you. What is hemorrhage? What is broken? Exposed.. does that mean he can see me? It gives you some clue about the killer you face during the loading screen, but not enough details for more complicated killers. I enjoyed the game enough to pour through the wiki and learn everything. To make things worse, there are SO MANY perks and addons. KYF is overwhelming for your first time.

I have to play the game with headphones because the sounds are too scary for my gf, she only saw a glimpse of the game and it was when a hillbilly started charging at me with his chainsaw LOL

"Damn these guys are good. Wait why is he running so fast for some reason? Why did he just do a lunge and dodge me?? Why can't I hurt this guy, but he started glowing white?"

I have everything unlock for survivours. Ive only tried playing killer a few times and never learned about their perks. Like yesterday I had a rare Bubba that doesnt camp and when he'd hook someone he'd head straight for me...Id be like..How??!! I realised Bar-be-que and chili told him. This is only recent to finding this stuff out. I'm just so uneducated. I just run the same tired perks and play the same tired way...and also I only play solo so I don't have a friend to help build my confidence..

What region are you and when do you play? We can team up for some games!

What rules am I imposing on myself? The rule that Deathslinger, Freddy, and Spirit are very easy to learn and do well with? That's not a rule. That's a claim. A disputable, debatable fact.

You act as if I'm saying you're not allowed to play these Killers. I sorely wish you didn't, but I'm not gonna report you for doing so. I'm not making rules for myself by disliking going against these Killers. All I said is that I dislike going against them, and that won't change in their current states. I will continue to dislike going against them because I think they're poorly-balanced and not fun to fight. You are allowed to play these Killers, and I am allowed to find them the opposite of fun.

Unless you're saying I'm a scrub for having an opinion, in which case, I think you're projecting.

I didn't say any of those things. You have a habit of strawman-ing to feel superior. Read the article, it might help you.

"good players would play Deathslinger since it's easy to 4k with Huntress."

What you just told me is like saying "Nurse doesn't take skill because she's the best Killer in the game." Better =/= easier; if that were true, Legion would be harder than any other Killer on the roster.

"But my point was that your logic is that of a scrub"

Imagine calling someone a scrub when you main Deathslinger.

"But you've put limitations in your mind about this game that are holding you back."

I have put exactly zero limitations on myself. The hell are you on about?

    "Give it some thought."

I've given it plenty of thought. And I've come to the steadfast conclusion that if you play Freddy, Spirit, or Deathslinger, then you want to be able to do well but not have to put in the effort of actually being better than your opponent. You want to win without trying. And as a result, I dislike going against these three Killers because they take incredibly little effort and the skill of the Survivor vs. the skill of the Killer becomes much more irrelevant than against any other Killer.

Look up "Introducing... the scrub". Read it and analyze how it applies to you and how you play the game. I won't resurrect this dead thread again since I'm not sure how to PM someone on these forums.

  • Every indoor map. WHERE THE F AM I?

  • @LuffyBlack said:

You have said what I have always wanted to say. I will add to that and say that this game even has its own "hardcore" culture. There are rules akin to that of playing street basketball. Casual games do not have unspoken rules like this. Like any competitive game you will face humiliation if you perform actions that are deemed "unhonorable". There's also the fact that the game punishes you when you lose, it pushes you to be competitive.

There's also expectations surrounding this game. Now, this is what I gathered from the responses here but the survivors are seeking a competitive experience akin to COD while the killers want this game to actually be a horror game, between the two I'd say the latter is not possible. This game is a glorified sports skin with a horror theme. It's tag. I gave up wanting a horror game a long time ago. Dead by Daylight is fast pace action. I wish the developers will actually bare this in mind and stop being stubborn, whatever original vision they had is gone.

((Have to point out here that this is not a dig at survivors, but both sides seem to expect different things from the game.))

Now if you want a casual game that actually feels like fun horror then you'll have to play Friday the 13th, or Deceit. While it makes sense to take Dead by Daylight seriously, it's cringy when people do it with Friday the 13th. Friday does not punish you for losses, rank actually does not matter, and even the act of farming is strange since you're going to be awarded no matter what.

"Casual games do not have unspoken rules like this"

Absolutely not, almost every game where you compete has players who feel that certain tactics are cheap and shouldn't be used.

Mario Party - don't steal my keys!

Mario Kart - you can't use red shells!

Minecraft - don't destroy my house!

Guitar Hero - don't use the power ups!!

    etc. etc.

Funny enough you mention street Basketball - a casual form of regular basketball. There are no such rules when competitive teams play, the ref won't blow his whistle if you keep passing to the same player.

I agree with the horror aspect, but I wonder if that's truly possible. When I first started playing this game i was scared of the heartbeat, and ######### got real intense when I was hiding or running. Now after getting used to the game, I run around the map without a care, unafraid of the killer. Even if a game focused solely on the horror aspect, after a while I think everyone would get used to it. Amnesia is said to be one of the scariest games, but if you play that 50 times in a row, it's not going to be scary at all.

Listen, famalam, I have played Deathslinger extensively since he came out, and I can say for certain: If Deathslinger mains were actually good at the game, they'd be playing Huntress.

Sounds to me like you're just salty that I talked trash about your main turning DBD into a point-and-click adventure game.

Funny, I'd say Huntress is just a better version of Deathslinger. So to use your logic - only good players would play Deathslinger since it's easy to 4k with Huntress. You can trash talk him all you want, I certainly do. I just think he's fun because he has a gun.

But my point was that your logic is that of a scrub - I'm not insulting your skill, I'm sure you're very good at this game. But you've put limitations in your mind about this game that are holding you back. Give it some thought.

Seems like you thought it was fun at one point. What changed?

  • There should really only be a "mute" button that perma-mutes this player for you so they don't flame you again in the post-game chat.

  • The game will NEVER be balanced for SWF. If it ever is, then playing solo will be a complete waste of time, there's no amount of emoting and perks that can supplant voice comms. Maybe they can try an alternate game mode where you HAVE to solo queue for ranked, but if you want to play for fun you can play unranked. I don't know, the problem seems hard-baked into the game when they decided that survivors shouldn't have chat/voice with each other.

  • Yep, but that won't make those grapes any less sour :)

In other words, your mentality is just holding you back. You're making up rules for the game that are not in the game at all, that have nothing to do with winning or losing, but playing how YOU think the game should be played. It sounds like you play to feel superior to other players, not to win.

  • @oxygen

Couldn't agree more. It's just a scrub mentality that's holding players back.

  • @Demogordon_Ramsay

"It depends. Freddy, Spirit, and Deathslinger are a sign I'm gonna have a bad time because they have insanely good chase for no effort whatsoever. Usually, though, this means that the people who play them are pretty stupid, because otherwise they'd be playing someone who takes effort to learn, so I can at least be rewarded for being better at the game than them instead of punished."

Totally dude, I bet their grapes are super sour and not even worth eating!

    lmao

  • For a survivor, it's not that bad. Leveling up Bill starts you with Unbreakable and Borrowed Time (and even Left Behind for more chance at survival, although it's not that good), and then if you go to Meg you will quickly have a near meta build with options for Adrenaline, Sprint Burst, Quick & Quiet, Unbreakable, Borrowed Time, Kindred. So now that you have an awesome set up, you can just play normally and watch your BP accumulate until you want to get Bond and Iron Will. No DLC necessary

For Killer? Oh man. You do get a lot more BP, but so many killer perks are behind a DLC wall, so to get an optimal set up you need to buy and unlock a perk or two from like 3-5 different killers. For some reason a lot of killers have 1 good perk and 2 trash perks.

BBQ and Chili - necessary and DLC. Pop Goes the Weasel - top tier and DLC. Hex: Ruin - top tier and DLC, etc. etc. etc. So instead of just leveling 1 character and teaching those perks, you've got to level multiple.

  • Survivor: Borrowed Time

    Solo Survivor: Kindred

    Killer: BBQ & Chili

  • DS just needs to be deactivated if you unhook another player or start repairing a gen. It's fine as is, it doesn't punish "playing badly as a surv" as much as it helps when your teammates farm you and unhook right in front of the killer, or you get tunneled. As it is now, it's almost like a 2nd borrowed time, there's no reason to not run it!

  • Agreed 1000x

They're reworking the ranking system, and I honestly can't wait. If it's not much better then I think I'm going to just play with friends once a month or uninstall. Why bother buying a new killer or survivor when this is what it's like.
