They actually answered that in the Q&A. It uses the average MMR of the SWF.
Because that definitely was totally fine before and didnt lead to any SWF bully squads bringing a couple smurfs to get lower rank killers. No siree.
But you'll get the line of people claiming that a 1, 1, 10 and 20 being matched against a rank 8 is "fair."

It's secret too, but I assume that if it's anything like the last system, it will probably attempt matching you with a killer of a similar mmr to the highest mmr player in the swf.
By the end it was clear they reverted that and it was matching you with the lowest... hence you had the three rank 1s who wanted to play with their rank 19 friend "just for fun," and teabag the poor new killer they got.

I just wonder what we're meant to do? We stomp them, they end up demoralized and think they're terrible at the game. We let them 'win' and we give them a false sense of acomplishment. This whole MMR system is the real enemy of the game right now.
Yeah it's really frustrating I play fair no tunneling, no camping, no NOED and no broken addons. Yesterday and today as killer I've been playing absolutely silly builds and still hammering teams but what else can I do? If I don't hook and kill them their MMR will go up and they'll go against an even better killer who may be a jerk? I know Otz stopped giving hatch and so have I.

Folks you need to give this more time than 2 days. Yes, it is possible the system isn't working properly, but we do not have the data yet to show that. It's very possible there's any number of things going on, from negative report bias (Which makes sense, as it isn't fun to be in matches like those), to the fact that there are a lot of people playing, and they are all having MMRs that need to settle yet. My personal theory is that with everyone starting at 0, and going up and down from that, there's going to be a lot of people who are very close in MMR and so they aren't getting accurate results yet, and the whole "10 games" thing lowballed it. Give it a little more time to make sure that this keeps happening over the next week.
Also, a Mod has said that while the system WAS running in the background, the data gathered wasn't perfect, and so the system needs more time to get players MMRs correct. This was always going to be a major overhaul, it was not going to be perfect right away. None of this surprises me. If it doesn't get better after about 2 weeks, that's when I'll start to get worried.
The excuses will continue in a month, then the line will be "well your MMR is right but everyone else may be just coming back," blah blah blah

It really is. I had a baby Nurse earlier that really tried their hardest. I mean, you could even tell they were getting so frustrated when the other survivors were just t-bagging and running circles around her. I Gave her a free hook and kill because I know how painful that must have been to endure.
Are we sure this is the right thing? I mean obviously I don't wanna tea bag baby killers and as a killer I don't wanna tunnel but if we go easy won't that keep them in the wrong MMR grouping?

MMR is smurfing for us. All I seem to get is baby killers as survivor. The MM system is making the game boring as hell because of it.
I feel like the people defending MMR or saying "wait a week," are the type of people who enjoy bullying newbies and are really really happy with the new MMR it's sad.

We are not explaining how the MMR is calculated - it's pretty normal to keep those conditions under wraps to prevent any exploiting of the system.
And no, this is not a strawman, the MMR system is a very real thing that's been in development for quite some time. However, it is going to take some time to accurately start to matchmake whilst everyone's MMR score is fully calculated.
Didn't @Almo claim it was running int he background for weeks already? How long can the system take, or was he just making that up? It's hard to trust when you mods keep contradicting each other.

Guys incase you didnt know you put a trap right here and it goes through the floor. Lol the devs know about this but theres a bunch of spots in a bunch of maps.
Then again how many good trappers do you go against that actually know about these spots? To be honest i wouldnt even know about them had i not watched otzdarva
I was gonna say the same thing, I've seen a few spots in shack with broken floorboards that you can place it. Also a few spots on the new map I always thought it was by design that they could do that.

Unless they obviously played like an ass or said nasty things to me, I'm gonna give a positive comment, a simple gg or say nothing at all.
If they obviously played like a douchebag or said nasty things to you without provocation, all bets are off. Say whatever you like keeping in mind you can be reported for what you said. I have no problem telling someone to go F themselves. If you aren't an "adult", you shouldn't legally be playing this mature rated game.
I'm definitely not for being rude to new players. But I think we need to not be rude to any of the players unless it was well earned. It's unfortunate that we have those people in the community, but it is what it is.
I agree, I guess just a little extra nice to new baby killers? But yeah I try to just say GG and a quick compliment to everyone most games. As killer I'll toss out, "dang Meg you looped me hard I was so confused," or as a survivor I'll thank the killers and make extra note if they played "fair."

That makes sense and I normally wouldn't even bring up my theory as a possibility, but due to DBD only now getting a MMR system and having all the playerbase dumped into this blender I feel it may not be working (ok I highly assume) as a normal MMR system would.
That's fair, and honestly at this point I HOPE HOPE HOPE you're right because if that's it then maybe it'll fix itself.

@MegaWaffle said:
To answer that first bit, I believe the reason people still seem to get odd games after their "10 game set" might have to do with the people who have not done their 10 games. I'd assume this will become a far rarer occurrence later down the road but the first 10 matches pair you with random people. So even though you now have your 10 there might be many others all looking for their 10 matches that got paired with you as a MMR test on their part.
Just a theory I don't really know.
That could make sense at low MMR but not high MMR, and not for the situation I’m seeing.
Presumably people with no data would count as low, so I shouldn’t be facing them as a “good survivor.” Snabkm nit bragging, I’m not great by any stretch but I’m outclassing the killers I’m seeing.

I guess I should have intentionally gotten killed in 2 or 3 of my first 10 games. Maybe I would have gotten stuck somewhere in the middle. I just keep envisioning this scenario where:
1) I only go against newbie killers for several games and keep escaping
2) Get classified as a top tier survivor (I'm not)
3) Get paired with really good killers and get slaughtered
4) Get classified as bad and start with number 1 again
I think you’re 100% spot on sadly it can’t be good for long term health of DBD
-
@WheresTheGate said:
I'm a survivor main. I tend to hover around rank 10. After the MMR started yesterday I played 10 straight matches with killers between rank 15 and 20. Escaped every single game. I've played several games since and I am getting paired with rank 1-5 killers every single game. I guess escaping from killers ranked between 15 and 20 means I should be going up against killers between 1 and 5. Apparently there is nothing in between.
They said it would take approximately 10 games to get a base for the MMR system. My question is how does pairing me with 10 straight killers ranked between 15 and 20 give any sort of indication? If the point is to try to pair people around equal skill level shouldn't I be playing against killers from various ranks. I have played around 16 or 17 games since the MMR went into place. As a rank 10 survivor I have not played against a single killer between the ranks of 6 and 14 in any of those games. I'm really hoping something changes. At this point it seems I can play against killers that are basically newbs and present hardly any challenge for me or I can go against killers for whom I present no challenge. Both ways are boring for their own reasons.
It’s almost as if they don’t have actually ratings, but just two groups... good and bad. Now of course the skill range in the good group is going to be pretty wide so if you’re considered good by the system then it could match you against really deadly killers who will stomp you or killers that only got to the good group by beating up on bad players then you’ll stomp them.
I haven’t seen anything to suggest there is any middle ground.

I can tell you that is Not true. Just to clarify I have been playing PH most lately to practice him and have routinely been routing teams so I should have High MMR with him at least right? Exactly I just feel so abd and when I'm paired with new survivors I get dragged down with them, I've seen it happen to so many video gaming companies when they implement some brand new system that replaces and older system some times it works, but in this case it doesn't, Bhvr your destroying your work by doing this, like I question have they actually tested this? Have they actually tested this with us player and see if it works or not? Apparently not
They claim they did on Xbox and the system predicted the results of games accurately, of course we don’t know what that means. If we go by their old theory then I assume that means it causes matchmaking that results in 2 kills and 2 escapes since they said that should be the average result.
I can say I haven’t seen anything like that, all of my killer games have been cakewalk 4ks and all of my survivor games have been 3-4 escapes mostly 4. And it’s not just the escape results, it’s clear from the start the killer is overmatched.
But you can’t go easy on the other side because then you will never move out of the grouping so you’ll keep getting matched up against weak players.

If the killer disconnects are you penalized for achieving less in the match? Specifics make it easy to manipulate and bm so I can see why they won't detail what works and what won't.
I don’t get the concern about manipulating it if you mean to lower your MMR on purpose. If you mean manipulation to increase your MMR despite not being good that’s a concern but then you end up against really good players so I don’t think anyone is doing that honestly do you?

I had convos with some, I had a rank 16 killer who got destroyed by red rank survs, and they were at least cool about it. They said sorry for boring game, I told them nah man you did good matchmaking is putting you up against us with 1000s of hours, its simply not fair for you.
Wouldve given a real life hug if could LOL
I feel so bad as survivor these games, I feel like the only people actually enjoying the MMR are the ones who like bullying weaker players. Using their perked out build to run a new Wraith who had 1 perk for 5 full gens makes them feel likr a champion I guess.
Same as killer, I hate demolishing people who have no awareness and clearly no looping practice... like NEVER EVER looking back once. Constantly running to dead areas and unsafe pallets. I stopped giving hatch or going easy on them though because I’m hoping that “winning,” will push me back to good matches.
-
@whammigobambam said:
Not much mystery in what factors in this new system, honestly. Can you lead a chase? Can you safely rescue? Can you do objectives? The only thing that is left to question is are they factoring in the perks add ons and offerings. It would be nice but I highly doubt it.
Does it matter how many pallets you drop in a chase? Scott make a great video about it, if I get chased first and camp drop every pallet for a 4 minute chase did I “do better,” than the teammates who had zero pallets to use so only had a 1 minute chase?
Can you safety rescue, what if the killer achieved zero hooks all game? That should be even better than safe rescues right?

Honestly that all I'm asking for. I want to know my rank and how to reach it, I don't care what my MMR is specifically, I want to know where I am compared to other players be it gold, silver, diamon or whatever they would name it. Problem is as I said already that devs aren't telling us anything which isn't ok in my book.
Exactly. No one is asking for details, well I'm sure some are, most aren't. It would be like watching a basketball game where baskets count for "something," and stolen passes count for "something else," and dribbling 10 times in a row counts for "something," but noone knows what and there is no scoreboard. Then when time runs out they don't even say who won but everyone should be able to figure it out themselves.

That’s his point, maybe potato is derogatory but the point is still accurate. No one should be playing their first few games against 5000 hour killers, how much would you wanna stick around after that?
And no killer should be learning his first games against a SWF red desth squad, or even solo “real reds.”

Did you fail to read the devs and mods actually say MMR was running in the background for preparation, so people would generally be matched correctly right from the start...
Then the same people said it needed 10 games to balance out, it’s almost like they have no clue so they just make up things that contradict the other thjbgs.

Edit: oh wait my bad. I forgot some people never actually touch killer because too scared yet talk about "balance" and NOED being crutch perk.
That was a weird end comment, I play both sides and I can tell you my survivor games are not balanced despite me playing a lot lately so MMR should have enough data to not give me killers so bad they get run for five gens.
Also as killer I have purposely been playing PH because he’s the one I’ve played the most/best lately and yet I still get baby survivors who hide all gsme and get 0-1 gen done total.

YOu missed the point, or did so on purpose.
If MMR has been running in the background the idea "it needs to stabilize" is false.
People keep saying it takes about 10 games,.... ummm, I played more than 10 games last night alone, and MMR has been running for weeks, so the "it takes time to stabilize" excuse seems like crowd control but not truth.
He’s ignoring it on purpose, some people are too tough on BHVR but then again some people will defend them to the point of it being sad really. One of the devs could go his house and dump all his garbage on the floor and he would say, “well maybe they have a plan for that let’s be patient and see.”
As far as the repeated “escape as a survivor and kill as a killer,” yeah people have been doing that and still you see 8000 hours vs 50 hours from either side

The survivors' goal is to survive, the killers' is to kill. IMO, it's pretty obvious that a big part of it is going to be escapes and kills. The ranking system also gives us an idea of what they consider skillful.
I think the devs' main concern is that if they give out too many details, people will try to game the system. They know a large portion of the playerbase would love to be able to grief newbies and/or bad players. With that in mind, I'll reiterate: just play to the best of your ability and see if the trials feel fair or not. Remember that your goal as a survivor is to survive and as a killer it's to kill.
@DrDeepwound said:

Lines like this make no sense when literally the big complaint is red rank players being matched versus rank 20 killers. Or red rank killers destroying rank 20 survs, come on.
As a red rank, I dont want to play against killers with less than 50 hours. We dont want to play with rank 20s thats the whole point.
What do you mean game the system, like smurfing? People don’t need details to smurf, if you want to lower your MMR you just queue up as killer and AFK. If you’re a survivor you run straight at the killer and let him hook you then attempt escape and don’t struggle. Not giving out details won’t prevent smurfing.

The trials don’t seem fair, and it’s not just me and my 10-ish games in each side... watch streamers who play dozens of games each day and the games are still a joke. I’m watching 8k hour killers being matched up against survivors who literally never look behind them. Or camp a pallet, drop it and run without waiting for a break.
Also we don’t “know,” surviving and killing is a big part just because it was before. Especially considering they said the old MM wasn’t a good indicator.
The biggest thing for killer comes down to being nice or playing fair, the old system punished you for quick games but maybe the new MMR rewards you for obliterating the survivors?
-
@Orion said:

Which games using an MMR do you know that not only show you everyone's MMR, but also explicitly list every last intricate detail of how their copyrighted intellectual property (i.e.: the MMR algorithm) works?
Every last detail, I’m not asking for that, but there is no broad idea either. At least in most games you have a general idea like “kills you get vs times you die.”
They could say, “escaping is a big part as survivor,” or let killers know which is better, dominating a team quickly or a drawn out 12 hook game.

I just don’t get who these games are fun for? As killer I really don’t enjoy easy 4ks despite what some people think. Maybe some killers do I guess?
As survivor I don’t enjoy a 5 gen chase against a baby killer? And I didn’t enjoy the games where I was literally the only person doing ANYTHING. Kindred was constantly showing me teammates standing, like literally just standings almost AFK but clearly there because they did move rarely.

My personal opinion is that Fortnite is bad for 2 reasons, 1. the community, which is has a higher ratio of children to adults then FNAF (which is saying a lot) and 2. Fights boil down to "who has more materials" instead of "who can aim better"
The fights are meant to be different than just a “shooter,” so you’re right faster building is more important but strategy and aim still plays a role.
Ad far as the community even with all the kids it’s still less toxic than DBD honesty. The only time someone would teabag or dance in your is after a kill, Plus there isn’t any endgame chat.

If you have a counter in a CHASE (genrush is not a chase counter, alright?) against Deathslinger, show evidence of any kind. I would prefere a video. And dont come up with a video where the slinger is missing half of his shots, because then the counter would be "hope the killer is terrible".
yep people aren’t getting what you’re saying, the chase part against Slinger and a few other killers feels unfun. The other 3 can do gens and the game becomes super easy for them until it’s their turn to be chased. So overall he had a counter, but the specifi chase is just annoying

I use spine chill very often aswell and its the best tool you have against Deathslinger, Nurse, Spirit etc.. mainly against killer you wont stand a chance in a chase but you rather have to gain distance before it even comes to a chase. And that is in my opinion just not a very fun experience.
Very true, I almost feel locked in to using Spine chill now. I started when Tru played GF and wraith a lot and seemingly everyone else followed suit.
I really don’t need it against stealth killers anymore I’m a lot more aware, but you’re right against Spirit it’s huge... against slinger it’s great...
The problem is I don’t have a good solution to the question, “how do we keep chases fresh, but not let certain killers feel oppressive and unfair in the chase.”
It’s still why I think Huntress is the most perfectly balanced killer. She can shut down certain loops and end chases quickly sometimes, but you can still mind games her at pallets and you still get that audio warning because her hatchets aren’t instant charge. If she gets me I’m not mad, and if I escape a chase I feel exhilarating

I played 2 games after the auras dropped. Could not see my traps as Trapper or the gens, hooks and hex totem. As survivor, running Det Hunch, I could not see gen and totem auras nor could I see survivors on the hook.
I've been playing other games instead. This may actually lead to me dropping DbD all together. I keep forgetting how bad this game is until I spend significant time in other games.
If nothing else, I'm done sinking money into DbD until they start showing some competence in their development.
I started playing (don’t laugh) Fortnite so I could understand what the kids were talking about... and I’m really enjoying it. Yes there are jerks, and I know some people cheat or hack but that’s mostly in the competitive environment. I’ve also seen two bugs since I started fixed within 1 day and then 4 days.

Lets be honest, whats the main reason why this game is so much fun to play and to watch? The chase of course.
It is great that every killer has different mechanics and therefor every chase is different but the problem with any killer like Deathslinger is that when you are in chase, you are already in deep trouble and you are about to get hit or downed. When the fun should actually start, the fun is more or less over. Try to get iridecent evader emblem against a good deathslinger... never ever gonna happen in your life.
If some think stealth and gen pumping is a lot of fun, well they might have indeed a lot of fun playing Deathslinger, but the majority of advanced survivors will not like that typ of playstyle.
Really good point, I’ll be honest I haven’t thought about it that way. The chase is certainly my favorite part on either side, maybe that’s why I don’t play as slinger much despite loving to play as Huntress...
One thing that may be swaying my argument is Spine Chill is standard for me when I play survivor so I do have a good heads up when Slinger is coming for me and I can start “the chase,” earlier and have more options.
