Your issue is, you seem to think everyone has the same idea of what's fun.
You might find farming bp fun. I find stomping survs into the ground with the least amount of generators repaired fun.
So, literally bullying. Got it. Sounds like a therapy problem.
To add to this, I'm not talking about farming. I'm talking about actually getting to play the game and enjoy it, like everyone who has ever bought a video game in the history of video games. That's the objective fun of video games. You'd be frustrated too if every time you downed a survivor, the game kicked you out. In fact, you'd probably be enraged. That's exactly what happens to the people you tunnel, just for existing in a game they like to play. -

3 perks that helps me a lot when im SoloQ is Distortion (and no im not avoiding hooks, but when i have taken my 2 hooks, its nice not to be detected) and Deja-Vu (Helps breaking 3 gens and saves time searching gens on some maps). Windows (This is seriously broken, but ill take it).
And then i bring a toolbox with extra charges or BNP most of the time, to get the first gen done as quick as possible.
I use distortion and calm spirit almost constantly. Bond never leaves my perk slot. I've been experimenting with the 4th, or a 2 perk combo if I take CS off. I like Stakeout/Hyperfocus with a good toolbox if I'm planning to just play a stealth gen game, or breakdown/we'll make for altruistic builds.
Windows is way too distracting for me. It makes my already suboptimal looping a nightmare. lol. It's more of a tunneling killer and/or swf teammates who don't care about me issue. I've taken to getting at least one gen done by myself, then taking chases and prot hits so the others can escape. It makes me feel better about dying almost every game because at least I feel useful. I'm almost at my first p100.
-
We don't, hence the ridiculous amount of map control clones in recent years. They're all super similar, with little tweaks here and there. It's the perks more than anything that make them really unique.

I've been in too many matches where players either bring BROWN offerings or no offerings just to spite other people in the lobby.
Players who don't bring cakes DURING THE ANNIVERSARY shouldn't receive bonus bloodpoints.
As soon as the anniversary ends, that should no longer apply, so players can bring cakes and everybody benefits from them after the event.
You can choose not to bring a cake during the anniversary, that's fine, but you shouldn't receive bonus bloodpoints from other players' cakes.
So screw everyone playing the event for the first time, or for the first time with a specific character, I guess?
Who pooped in your pancakes?

I feel like remote hook would have been far more balanced if it teleported to the hook farthest from the killer.
I would probably stop playing if there was a killer who could remove hook to the closest hook with every down, ngl. It negates so many things that give survivors a fighting chance.

It doesn't matter if it's actually an win, the meaning of "win most" here is that, people will and absolutely try to do the things that feels "most victorious" in every scenarios
Bleedout is 100% lose, but people feel little more "victorious" when they managed to hide from killers all the time, thus they try to do that, same for hatches, same for 4k, it's all same
I see, I was just taking it more literally.
It just feels excessive, I guess. If I kill 3 and one gets away, they can tea bag the gate all they want, I still won lol. If I kill 2 and 2 get away, that's a gg. If I kill 0-1, that's on me haha.
-
Firellius, I was going to say this too. 3k is a win. Sweating/slugging for 4 is ego.
-
@Neaxolotl said:
Considering that most survivors go for hatches and sometime even intentionally go for bleedout just to waste killer's time, yes, people absolutely want to win most
But bleedouts and hatches are draw states, aren't they? Neither is a "win" in MMR standards, unless I'm working on old info. Tbf I haven't kept up with the officiality of win conditions in a while because it feels super arbitrary and archaic.
-
Like others, I don't think they need reworking. My main complaint is that so many people play them as M1 and wait out the power to stay in chase with one person. It seems like a waste.
-
I find it interesting how much blaming is done for toxic BM behavior.
Some people are just scummy. A LOT of people are just scummy. Because anonymity. Because Internet. Because "U MAD BRO" culture. We all make our own choices in how to act. Toxicity is just immaturity rearing it's rampant, ugly baby head in an age of no consequences. Not just in DBD, but everywhere. I hope people in general get better.
-
What I'm looking for, ideally, is good chase, relatively fair play, and a decent amount of progress on both sides.
My favorite games are when I feel like matchmaking worked. I'm also pretty biased towards certain killers because they're inherently fun to go against. OG killers, mostly. I love a trapper or a bing bong. I usually love GF too. Killers that have medium strength abilities and maybe take some thought or planning to play well. I get excited and find joy in being genuinely outfoxed by a well placed trap or a jump scare.
-
I look at it like this:
All of us are people behind screens looking to have fun by playing the game. That's the ultimate goal of any game. . . Fun. This isn't squid game. You won't die irl if you don't win as fast as possible. Have some good fun chases. Give everyone some BP, hook some folks and, yes, kill them since it is the goal, then give legitimate ggs in chat for some genuine interaction. This is an event. People don't want to sweat here, generally speaking. What happened to the lighthearted event play from years past? Where did this influx of no ######### come from?
-
Wheres my gosh darn Parasite Eve killer/survivor combo? At least that has horror.

Did you by any chance BM the killers? - If yes, then its deserved.
I played 5 games as killer yesterday just to do the event stuff, and i did not intent to kill anyone, but in 4 of the 5 games, survivors kept BMing me, and i ended up killing them because THEY could not behave and have fun, one did even use exploits so they could not be picked up after entering they dying state. The 4th game 2 of the 4 were BMing like crazy, and i ended up killing all 4, it turned out it was 2, 2 peron SWFs and the 2 i spoke with endgame were innocent but i thought it was a 4 man, they understood when i told why i killed them all and they accepted the apology.
Even in the 5th game, 1 of the 4 kept BMing me after i let them escape, - i did get an apology in the endgame chat afterwards tho.
So a lot of survivors are really not very nice towards the killers.
I will play freindly killer later, im hoping that survivors will behave better this time, i will not stay freindly if provoked, so its up to the ones i play against how the game ends.
I prefer having fun to bullying and BMing. I think it's gross when anyone does it, killers and survivors alike.
-
The claim was gen rushing, not Survivors just doing gens efficiently. Survivors popping multiple gens in 90s making it impossible for killers. It's is not the same. That's not happening unless all surv players are running gen builds. People that are defending hard tunneling just ignore entire parts of the discussion, it seems.
Killers killing and killers tunneling are also 2 different things. They have the same end result, but they're not equitable. Just like "gen rushing" and people just doing gens normally without builds to "rush" it aren't equitable.
-
@loreaccuratenemesis said:
Tunneling isn't necessarily an intentional act of toxicity or sweatiness. I play Killer in an auto-pilot efficiency mindset that will sometimes result in me tunneling someone if there's no better options. For example, if I hook someone, then I go to find someone else, but the Survivor gets unhooked while I'm still nearby, then yes, I am going back to hook. It's the Survivors' mistake to unhook when I'm still close and not occupied, of course you're going to get punished for it.
Then, if I arrive back at the hook, and they're healing, yes, I'm going to hit you. If the unhooker doesn't get my attention or runs away and the just hooked Survivor is closer, yes I'm going after them. Especially if they use their BT to bodyblock. These are all Survivor misplays that I am capitalizing on, it's not me intentionally choosing to tunnel for an easy win or to be toxic. If you're going to be a bad Survivor player, you are going to be punished for it. Stop being bad and expecting the Killer to not punish you for it.
I say all this as an avid Survivor player who knows when to unhook, when to get the Killer's attention off teammates, when to trade, etc. I won't deny there are examples of obvious hard tunneling, but they aren't as frequent as some players make it out to be. A lot of it boils down to Survivors just playing bad. The Killer gets a nice, loud, booming noise notification when a Survivor is unhooked. Why would I waste my time looking around for others when I'm being notified of the location of two Survivors? Don't unhook until the Killer is occupied somewhere else.
And if they proxy camp? Get on gens and trade at the last second. You also need to accept that not every match is going to be a 4 man out, just like Killers need to accept not every match is going to be a 4k. Sometimes one Survivor will have to be a sacrifice so the other 3 can do gens and escape. That's just how it goes.
Tunneling isn't a sin. Yes, people can use tactics to be toxic, but more often than not, it's a skill issue. Not only that, but this is just how the game is designed. Killers are supposed to kill. Being nice and taking turns hooking Survivors offers no gameplay advantage to the Killer. Having 8 hooks is no different from having 0 hooks, all 4 Survivors are still active and able to do gens, heal, chase, etc. Removing a Survivor is the only thing that drastically changes the dynamics of the match.
I find more often than not on inexperienced Killers that try to tunnel that it's detrimental to them and they often only end up with 1 kill because they didn't properly spread pressure. I spread pressure as much as I can while always going after whatever Survivor I can find fastest that's within my line of sight, and drop chase if they bring me close to a generator I know is being worked on. Whether this results in tunneling or not is irrelevant to me; I don't intentionally tunnel, but I also don't intentionally avoid tunneling either. I kill anyone I see, simple as that. Not to be toxic, but because I want to actually do chases and play the game, not waste time leaving Survivors alone so I can walk around doing nothing. That's boring.
Edit: That being said, I want to say that I think tunneling does end up boosting Killer players' MMR too high because often casual teams that are tunneled early on have no chance of making a comeback, so Killers get easy wins (whether intentionally or not) and get paired with higher skilled SWFs that are too much for them. I think if this problem were to be rectified, it would have to be on the devs to implement a forced anti-tunneling playstyle that prevents Killers from being able to tunnel simply as part of the game's design. it shouldn't be a choice. Players should not have to police themselves. It should just be a part of the game passivelyt. I don't play this game to stop and waste time trying to make sure I'm not tunneling. If the devs implemented a way to force me not to tunnel in a way where I don't have to think about it, then I'd be fine with that.
I'm actually talking about tunneling off hook, though. I don't necessarily consider finding the same survivor a minute or two after unhooking as tunneling. I've just noticed a sharp event increase in proxy camping and tunneling directly off hook.
That said, if they're unhooking and healing in your terror radius, it's not good play, but I'd attempt to chase the unhooker at detriment to my own win out of courtesy. I don't mind that not everyone feels that way though.
The other issue is soloq being injured and not getting body blocked or others taking chase. People are really selfish a lot of the time. I spent an entire match injured and nobody would heal me. They all ran to corners and self healed, and refused to let me heal them too.
Ugh, people.

No. You can do gens fast without toolboxes or special perks. Doing that specifically doesn't use up anything, any more than a normal match. It just depends on gen efficiency. Tunneling absolutely costs the killer something: time. DBD matches are a race against time, forcing the killer to be on the back foot from the start, and with enough strategy, luck, and survivor mistakes, the killer can turn the pressure back on the survivors. No tunneling or survivor mistakes, no reason the killer should be winning that match. As soon as the survivors notice someone is getting tunneled, the one being tunneled needs to be playing safe instead of getting fancy and saving pallets for later, or try to greed a window til entity blocker. Their teammates need to be rushing gens, or muddying their teammates' scratch mark/body blocking for them. Since survivors don't really need to heal, they can totally take that hit while they're healthy and then sit on gens the rest of the game while their healthy teammates body block. If you see a super high level match, this is what you see. As soon as a teammate is about to go down, body block, and then they make the next loop. As soon as you detach to the person that body blocks, the cycle repeats. Of course, not all survivor teams are this elite, but then again neither are the killers. And I'd say when the killer and survivors are the same caliber, the survivors typically win. When the killer is elite and is going against a mid team, they deserve to win, not to have a draw or a loss by default.
Nobody is popping 3 gens in 90s as purported without equipment add ons and perks.

You've been playing since 2016 but are somehow surprised at tunneling?
I never said I was surprised, just frustrated by it. It's a shame, that's all. The game has the potential to be so fun and so exciting, but so many people (on both sides) just want to get through matches as quickly and dirtily as possible that it makes the game broken.
-
Adorable.
Wiggle is pointless in the current state of the game. If "never" is how often it's supposed to work, it's doing an awesome job.
-
Not sure wht my reply didn't post, but here's the rudown of what I typed originally.
It's not even close to the same thing. Doing gens or "gen rushing" requires consumable parts, equipment, and addons. It usually also requires perks to be efficient. This is something the player has to weigh against other perks, equipment, or addons that might be more helpful to the overall game. It takes a lot of finite resources, many of which are extremely rare and rationed. Tunneling is available at all times to all killers without any resources being spent or perks being used. There's literally no risk. Nothing gets used up. Nothing has to be rationed or considered. It sounds like you're mad at coordinated swfs. A valid complaint, but not what we're talking about.

Me being silly:
- Saying that it takes 90 seconds to repair 3 generators (1 survivor is in chase, 3 are repairing a generator).
- Saying good survivors can repair 5 generators in 4-5 minutes (remember, 90 seconds for 3 generators, I'm being generous here).
- Saying you won't be able to get 9 hooks in 4-5 minutes vs good survivors.
- Killers killing survivors is them just doing their objective.
Good counter argument.
I meant it's silly comparing doing gens to tunneling. BNP is a finite resource that spawns in the bloodweb extremely infrequently. Let me reiterate, this is a consumable resource. It's rare. Frustratingly so. As are toolboxes and toolbox add-ons. Running gen perks is an option that some people choose and others don't. It sounds like you're mad at coordinated swfs, which is a separate issue. As a soloq, I also have issues with coordinated swfs, but that's not what's being discussed.
Tunneling is available to every killer, every time, with no perks, addons, thought, etc. It's not the same thing at all. There's 0 risk to tunneling unless you commit to a pointless chase, which is 100% a killer decision. -

I think CoH and Boil Over has made survivors unable to handle anything at this point if we're being honest.
CoH is pretty useless to a soloq, too. Since they removed self-healing from it, it's a SWF perk that doesn't lend a lot of value otherwise. Boil over is just meh, imo. I use it occasionally, but again, I don't get much value out of it unless a kind stranger is bodyblocking and I'm in a great spot. BO gets a lot more credit than it deserves lol.

The point of it is so that the killer can't carry you indefinitely or to the basement everytime. What it's not is a 2nd chance mechanic. You are not meant to consistently wiggle out but only in those two circumstances..
Not arguing because I'm genuinely curious if that's been explicitly stated somewhere. I've honestly thought wiggle should be eliminated for a long time regardless of hook respawns, just because it serves no purpose in the game on a fundamental level. A killer would rather slug than carry someone to the basement/indefinitely. I don't see those things ever actually happening anyway, so wiggle is useless either way. More than anything it's just something for a surv to do while they're on the way to die so it's not empty time.

In 90 seconds 3 generators pop. You're always forced to bring boring gen defence perks. 4-5 minutes the game is over vs a good team, you won't be able to get 9 hooks in that time.
People doing gens is not the same thing as gen-rushing = Killers killing people is not the same thing as tunneling. (They're just doing their objective, they're killers not hookers)
You're just being silly now

That is not the point I am arguing, ofcourse dropping chase is a CRITICAL skill for killers to learn in order to improve, im referring to the following:
The situation where a killer is stuck in a situation where the last survivor just constantly runs to a corner of the map knowing the only reachable hook is destroyed out of spite and wants to waste the killer's time for winning the match.Obviously if there are multiple survivors alive it is pointless to commit to the chase of the survivor that takes you to the unhookable zone and instead try to down the others, but the problem is when the last survivor does this constantly and you MUST wait 4 mins/EGC if hatched is closed.
The situation where a survivor is stuck in a situation where the killer just constantly slugs to bleed out out of spite and wants to waste the survivor's time for having the audacity to actually have a chance at hatch. -

But they affect how killer plays.
I had quite often lobbies where there are up 2, or 3 survivors with Distortion. When I have aura reading, unless they show themselves to me, which they rarely do. Those survivors left are going to take all chases.
You can say what you want, but if you are able to take a chase, I don't believe you would use such a build, because it simply loses a purpose.
I understand what you're saying, but I see this build as an early game advantage. My sole purpose is to go undetected while doing gens. I'm admittedly a poor looper 69% of the time. I'm more helpful as a medic or an M1 bot in the early game. If I get chased early on, especially if there's a tunneler, team is down to 3v1 fast in many cases. So I'm genning, unhooking, and healing for 1-2 gens. Once teammates are on gens too, I get ballsy, because if I get tunnelled at 3 or 2 gens left, my team is more likely to escape, and I was useful while I was there. I'm less concerned about winning than I am about being useless. I also like being able to take prot hits out of nowhere, because I'm quiet and have bond. And calm spirit is just because the screaming is so effing annoying.

Kind of on the fence with this. I think every pvp game with a community is going to have etiquette expectations, even if devs don't explicitly state it as the rules. Every community has some version of "just because you can doesn't mean you should". None of us exist in a bubble if we play this game. Everything we do has an impact. Nobody is the main character. That said, certain times definitely call for certain tactics. I'm probably more likely to follow the community etiquette standards, but I know not everyone will. That's 99% of this forums discussion basis lol.

Yes, TRUE skill is dropping chase and simply not downing survivors! That way, you'd never have the chance to hook them, so there being hook deadzones isn't a problem anyway!
True skill is knowing the difference between a worthwhile chase and a bait. Knowing when to go apply pressure to the gens instead of chasing any survivor you see. Where did the attitude that every chase is supposed to end in a hook come from? Is hooking the end goal? Sure, but is it the only way to play, not by a long shot.

But the survivors can decide what gens to repair, the killer only has a limited choice of where to hook someone... I don't see how this is comparable...
Also yes part of killers skill is managing finite resources, but that does not mean hooks, it means his time…the killers time in the match is limited by how effectively the survivors are doing their objective, the survivors Ressource are pallets they need to be resourceful about using them, so the killer can be delayed enough to escape him. That's basically the balance of the match. Managing hooks and deciding where to hook is part of the macro game, but that decision gets limited if hooks break for longer or forever... Sure you need to think about that beforehand, but usually you dont have much of a choice to begin with, starting from the edge of the map there is 1 maybe 2 hooks in range to hook the survivor on, the next one who dies there might just not be hookable... And that sucks for both sides, the killer is forced to slug and the survivor is either annoyed on the ground or he is doing it on purpose to not able to be hooked, just sucks for both sides.
As a killer, you're allowed to drop a chase and go apply pressure to the people doing gens. This is literally your main skill. There seems to be a mindset that every chase should end in a hook or a slug, period. Don't chase that person into the dead zone just because you see them. Throw on Discordance or another info perk and get the most value out of the map.

Well, it's finally happened. I've become so frustrated that I made an account here to vent.
I've been playing since 2016, and the amount of gen rushing I've seen in this event needs to be discussed. It has been, without exaggeration, 9/10 games. When confronted in EGC, they always just say "Calm down, I'm just playing the game". I don't play a gen regression build because it shouldn't be this much of an issue. If I have to waste 1 to 2 perk slots each game on gen regression perks, it's a bigger issue in general that should be dealt with.
"Gen-rushing" has been nerfed a million times. People doing gens is not the same thing as gen-rushing.

So if a survivor goes to a deadzone with no hooks due to them being broken by sacrifices, if I do not break chase due to the wild reason that there are no hooks nearby I am considered a bad killer player because there are no hooks in that area due to poor map design? What happens when every player does the same? Your reasoning of breaking chase due to survivors going to unhookable areas as a result of broken hooks is an issue of game design not of killer skill.
Y'know what? Yes. The best killers know not to commit to fruitless chases. They don't chase a survivor into a dead zone. They don't waste time chasing the clicky clicky lithe megs. Knowing when to let a person go is just as important in a killer's skill set as anything else. If you do commit to those chases, you wasted your own time. You got baited into losing gens and hooks. Pay attention to your surroundings.
You=anyone playing killer.

Slugging for the 4k ends the match in 5 minutes
Hiding in a corner and using a item to avoid AFK crows can force a match to go on until the server shuts the match downThey are not the same thing
It's still holding the game hostage, regardless of length of time. Literally nothing else can get done and everyone has to wait to bleed out.
-
"Part of survivor skill is managing that finite resource."
I always assumed it was part of the killer skill to do the same with hooks. Survivors use broken hooks as a tactic, often to combat toxicity, but not always. It's a strange choice in my opinion, and I say that as someone who does like to play both sides. If I, as a killer, can be baited into hooking only on one side of the map, that's my 3 gen equivalent.

I honestly don't remember saying it should be bannable, but if I did, I was in my feels lol. I don't want more bans, I want people to be better overall, y'know. . . I want the impossible. But I do feel like there should be bigger penalties, or longer immunities for survivors. Like, if you chase a freshly unhooked survivor within 30 seconds of unhooking, they should be unwhackable. (This is an extreme example and not my actual suggestion).
Edit: I also now want a perk called Unwhakable

I agree, when all 4 sitting at the exit gate teabagging for 2 mins is too
I dunno, man. I've seen enough "just leave" kills to enjoy letting those d-bags keep it up.

niether is teammates giving up on first hook and being able to circumvent the dc penalty yet its still a thing
But what if your first hook isn't until there are 2 left with 3 gens to go and the other person has 2 hook states? Then it's a tactical choice to allow the other survivor a chance at hatch. Happens all the time.

MMR doesn't translate between killers. You're probably going into a higher MMR with the killers you binge. When you swap out, you drop back down
