Are you sure about that?

Imagine thinking trapper was OP.

Since this behavior is prevalent in the game's, "Brand Ambassadors," I can only assume this antagonism is the intended result of the game's gameplay loop.
The Us. vs. Them that so many players fall into is also intended, the their of victory, the shame of defeat, the BMing, all just as planned.

They havn't even made an official post mortem or apology. It seems like they just want to pretend it didn't happen.
And they very likely won't. They'll count on the angry players to forgive them and keep playing, or the new players to never know what they're missing out on.
Either way, it behooves them to not call attention to their greed and tone-deaf actions.

I just want mention something really important, that some youtuber pointed out. BHVR released this cash grab "event" in the middle of global pandemic, when a lot of people lost their jobs and they're struggling financially to live. I know you are not forced to buy the rift or the skins, but this is just showing a middle finger for these people. Really not cool. I thought BHVR were about to support community during these awful times.
Gosh, I hadn't even thought of that. I'm one of the fortunate few who has access to income during all this, but not everybody is as lucky. It really is tone-deaf on their part to release the greediest "event" yet during this time.
-
Killer add-ons are long overdue for an overhaul. Too much garbage, too many killers are dependent on add-ons. It's a mess. It makes me stressed to played certain killers because I feel like if I have a bad match then I've wasted those add-ons.

Recap:
- Halloween event was considered bad by large parts of the community
- new Halloween skins went on sale after being available for full price for a while
- new skins were never put on sale that quickly after being released
- there has never been a sale for Iridescent Shards prices before
- no one who bought the new Halloween skins for the old price is getting refunded fully or the difference between what they paid and the sale price
- the reasoning given for this, and to my knowledge the only communication regarding this, is "The EULA allows us to put skins on sale at any time and it also says there are absolutely no refunds in any way"
Everyone who bought the Halloween skins for full price before the sale feels betrayed by this. The only communication that I have seen was stating that the EULA allows this, with the implication that nothing is going to be done.
My question is this:
Will there be a sort of official final / postmortem statement regarding the Halloween event?
What I mean by this is an official statement / official news, summarizing the issues with the event, explaining steps that were taken to remedy the issues and also outlining why other steps were not taken, such as refunds. Followed up by a summary of what you, the developers, have learned from this event and what steps you will take in the future to avoid the issues of this event.
An example of what I mean by steps that can be taken to avoid these issues in the future: "For future events we will announce that skins will go on sale shortly after release before they are released on the store."
I wouldn't hold my breath. My take on the dev response to the event is that they think we're square after "giving" us the bloodpoints and Iri shards. Despite massively mismanaging and irritating fans the whole way through, they probably think it went over pretty well.
I'm sure they have some "Statistics" to back that up.

Otz always brings the sanity to this game. Too bad devs ignore their fog whisperers.

The rule of DBD:
Survivors are allowed OP perks and broken mechanics.
Killers are allowed to Git Gud. (But if Killers ACTUALLY git gud, whatever they're doing should be nerfed!)
Basically. Any advantage the "Power Role" has cannot be allowed. After all, they have to keep those escape rates high.
-
They'll get away with it for as long as you let them. Just stop buying new skins/DLC with money.
-
Give me bots to practice a new killer on.
-
I really dislike people throwing out all the valid criticism with, "yelling and screaming" or pretending it's all toxic, instead of a lot of legitimate complaints with the occasional toxic take.
-
It's so sad when you see people breaking the rules and the same people who should be censuring them seem to be condoning behavior that would be unacceptable from the general playerbase.
It's even more distressing when you don't know how to go up the food chain to report the violations/double standards of the moderators. Or if their overseers would even care.
-
I got it by guessing the last two numbers of a partial code posted on a stream.

Undying + Ruin is good game play. It gives you secondary objectives and does nothing unless the killer can play well and pressure the entire board. Not to mention it's costing him 2 perk slots.
Like literally, where's the issue with the perks? Elaborate.
Honestly, undying + ruin should be in the game by default. Survivors actually having to do side objectives makes for longer and more engaging games and more BP for everybody.
I'm actually really happy to have to do totems.
Also, if OP thinks survivors have to play harder than killers, then they've never mained killer.

Haha the daily login rewards are only a thing to try and bring back all the players they lost recently
Not even, it was planned damage control because they knew how poorly received the event would be. Did you see how none of the devs were surprised or apologetic during that QnA?
They knew what was going to happen, and they didn't care.

New players are more valuable to them.
Anyone who joins the game now is okay with predatory monetization, whereas older players might not be okay with it. But players who are okay with it will bring more money, so they are preferable, and older players (in terms of when they started playing, not physical age) are undesirable.
This is the sad truth, and with games like this, the longer they are in their life cycle, the more they depend on whales and new players to keep funds coming for development. The problem is, with DBD, aside from about 8 patches a year, there doesn't seem to be enough development actually happening to justify the costs sometimes. Their art team is working, improving the maps for next gen consoles, and cranking out new skins and new characters. But sometimes it really feels like the dev/balance team is resting on their laurels.
Marketing is working on twitch campaigns and damage control. I don't know who made the amazing decision to only give us enough currency for one free skin this year. And to not make the old skins available for said currency.

Gonna be fully honest I think they don't look at it most of the time. I'd say hackers they might and maybe bugs but not farming or stuff like that.
The fact they don't tell you if the user broke the rules or not means they can pretend they took action when they did nothing.
Yeah, any time they have a policy where they don't have to tell you what action they're taking, if any, is a surefire way to tell that they're probably slacking.
-
I don't think they've learned anything, honestly. As far as I can tell they've learned that they can tighten the screws on micro transactions, and the most they'll get is a slap on the wrist from the community.
Criticism has been met with anything from being completely ignored, to being deleted, or worst case, the offender being banned entirely.
They don't seem to want to hear the feedback, or in some cases are actively hiding it where people won't see it.
It's really sad to see, I had just gotten back into the game, but their handling of this event has turned me off of it once more, I don't know if I'll continue to play after the Blood Hunt.
-
No idea. I reported a killer for holding the game hostage and provided video evidence, but I have no idea if that ever went anywhere.
-
Oh man, it's been a real turd of an event. But be careful posting criticism of it today. Just for teasing BHVR about the technical difficulties they've been experiencing during the Stranger Things event, I've seen bans on Twitch and blocks on Twitter. There is no sense of humor on Halloween.
-
Unpopular Opinion: I think Midwich is fine, and it is okay to have maps that feel/play differently than the rest.

The Halloween event was horrible to be honest... The X3 BP to cover it up... Damn...
No, the BP and Iri giveaway was the coverup. The BP event is normal.

They tend to have middling to good perks. But some of them are outright trash. But you do need to get a lot of the DLC killers to get the best meta perks.

I gotta say, he looks like he was pretty fun. Weak but fun.
From the looks of it, you had to play him completely differently from other killers and that's awesome! I mean, let's face it, almost all the current killers play the same and have to play tiles mostly the same way with maybe their power giving them an edge on certain tiles.
The only killers that I would call "unique" anymore are Nurse and Hag. Nurse can... oh, come on, we all know why Nurse is absolutely terrifying in the right hands, let's not go there. Hag approaches chases differently since she's all about getting survivors into her web of traps and being 10 places at once and it's terrifying.
Old Freddy was unique and now he's a boring, standard killer. Old Legion was unique and... okay, yeah, he was a mistake, never mind—good call changing that one.
Still, I kinda wish there was another killer like Old Freddy. Weak or not, he looked like he was a blast to play! Current Freddy, my personal hatred aside, it just another basic killer with really good tools at his disposal.
Idk what my actual point here was—just my personal ramblings.
Boring, and slightly too good at being a pubstomper.
-
Honestly I'm a lot more salted that they discounted the new Halloween skins five seconds after we already paid for them, but they don't even have the good sense to discount the older skins so we can use our Iridescent shards on them.
Absolutely dumb.
-
Yes, please. They're only ever used for toxic purposes and I never use them, so they just clutter up my inventory.
If you won't remove them, at least let me recycle them into something useful like an Add-on or some BP.
-
Honestly it's been more fun for me, because no matter how the match goes I'm getting more BP.
-
The positive and helpful ones. Not the ones with 2,000 replies of snark.

Please stop teabagging the killer. You'd hate it too, if you ever played killer. You don't, so you see nothing wrong with it. But this is just a game, I'm not out here to ruin your lives. I get SWF's flashlight clicking and teabagging even in games where I didn't do anything they could possibly perceive as "toxic."
Why? I'm just trying to play a fun game after a long day at work. Why do you explicitly want another human being who did you nothing wrong to suffer? Why are you so mean to me?
Please stop teabagging me. I'm really begging you. I can't take it anymore. This game just makes me so sad to play.
I'm with you, bud. I think this game would be a lot more fun for everyone if people would reign in the taunts and BM.
But the unfortunate truth is that it's kind of part of gamer culture to be toxic in both victory and defeat.
And streamers and fog whisperers, even the nicest of them, engage in this behavior from time to time. The worst ones will even encourage it.
So as much as I'd love to see it gone. I'm afraid this is a pie in the sky wish.
-
I'd say probably once every 2 or 3 games. Tunneling is fairly common, camping, less so.

Being serious now I normally just go into matches expecting to lose but trying to get some fun out of it. Though counting a hit as a win sounds better and better with each match I play lol
Yeah, I stopped worrying about my killer rank a long time ago, and adopted the philosophy of, "I get however many kills I get." I try to get at least one hook on each of them for BBQ stacks and fat BP payouts, but after that?
I could care if they all get away or not. As long as everybody has fun.
-
If it was a Fog Whisperer, get in contact with one of the Mods.
-
I mean, this is a good way to not get tilted. And I've stopped looking at 2k/3k as long. It just means the survivors didn't lose too. That's a draw in my book.
-
Honestly, the fact that they could look at the numbers and claim that OoO doesn't need a tweak, and then turn around and ignore other numbers that show Freddy with an unnaturally high killrate tells me everything I need to know about the devs work ethic.

title.
Recently I made a thread about what defines counterplay for me, asking for what defines good counterplay for others.
One of the reasons was that I've been wrecking my head if there is any actual counterplay to Freddy that isn't disadvantageous to survivors.
Like, with killers like Deathslinger, who's continuously tooted to have no counterplay, you do have the means to counter him in ways that hinder him (like going round in pairs to break the chain easier etc resulting in a stun for him and the reload time, while going in pairs also reduces repair time for survivors)
Spirit has inconsistent counterplay, but there is some that hinders her while giving survivors some benefit timewise.
But freddy? try as I may, I can't think of any.
Once you are asleep, you suffer from Oblivious, there's no way to avoid the snares (which are infinite iirc? correct me if i'm wrong), he can teleport willy-nilly etc.
Now, sure 'waking up' is a kind of counterplay, but not beneficial to the survivors, but to freddy.
missing a gen gives away your position AND skillchecks are random.
finding the alarmclock takes away precious time and you have to avoid freddy.
getting woken up requires another survivor to be awake.
I really can't think of any genuine counterplay, as there's not much to actually 'counter' him. it all seems to work to his benefit.
To say nothing of the fact that the "Counterplay" also benefits Freddy the longer the game goes, because it's harder and harder to wake up. I think they need to make survivors stay awake longer after they wake up to really incentivize doing so/make it worth it to hike across the map looking for an alarm clock. To say nothing of just, not being able to wake up because you're the obsession.
Have fun!

Agreed. I want to play the game. Why would I want to waste my time watching lackluster streamers for a slight chance at a meaningless charm.
To pad BHVR's numbers on twitch to possibly drive sales, but also to have positive metrics to show their shareholders since active players started to plummet due to fan response to the new Halloween Event.
-
It was fine. Nothing exciting, not really worth the hype. But it was fine. I liked all the streamers they features. Especially Streamdaddy, I got my DwightCrow code from him.
-
I'd say I "Got Decent" after a few weeks of practicing my fundamentals, (Looping, checking my corners, etc.) and then watching amazing Killers on twitch definitely helped me. I'm sure I could improve even more if I had people to practice with and I gave enough of a crap.

You can 99% a gen, wait for the killer to come, complete it and run. Just hope they don’t have ruin.
Or do what I did, play Fei and queue into a baby trapper on a vertical map.

I mean, they're playing the current highest winrate killer. I don't feel that bad for them.

Expectations are not met.
Be disappointed.

Yikes.
I mean expecting nothing from the Devs is usually the healthy response. But they still shouldn't hype up these nothing events without giving context for what they are.

Depends entirely on how the survivors acted in-game.
Were they BMing/Teabagging/styling the whole game? I'll assume it's sarcastic.
Was it a 2K/3k? Probably sincere.

Ok I know this sounds stupid but yesterday I got bored as surivor and started doing item builds and 8 out of the 10 games I got a key (non broken) and im just thinking like surivors hate mori and killers hate key but theres a perk to give a chance of a key. And surivors would be mad if killer could just find a mori. ( thoughts?/ ideas if there was a change)
Honestly I kind of hate it, because people trolling for items usually aren't doing gens, and I'm also just kind of opposed to the idea of being able to farm I Win items, when Killers can't farm Moris.
(Though personally I think Moris are more problematic than keys.)
