  • Seriously wanted to slap Ethan for trying to pretend his numbers were accurate or relevant.

    "mUh StATiStIcS."

The change to pop was even a surprise when they announced it... Even more so when their reasoning drew similarities to DS (with DS far more abusable) and they never responded about the similarities.

Fast forward to patch going live and we got a secret nerf to Discordance too. Because killers said it didn't make sense that yellow was better than purple, they just made them all useless rather than reversing the alert timer per perk tier.

And now they've officially said they aren't addressing OoO🤯.

Can an actual developer please explain any of this? Is it really this lopsided?

Is it because Survivor mains buy more cosmetics and battle passes?

That's the only reason I can even fathom of why this game would nerf 2 killer perks that never got complained about while ignoring an ENTIRE forum full of legitimate comparisons to DS and confirming (which is rare) that the most toxic perk stays as is?

Honestly listening to Ethan drone on about statistics and dismissing killer concerns was so irritating.

  • Good post, I got mine yesterday from stream daddy, honestly not happy with this part of the event either.

They've given out so many codes it's not going to be rare by the end, it's obviously a scheme to drive their viewer counts up on twitch to generate more people playing the game.

  • More horny skins.

    More balance patches.

    More unlockables through gameplay.

Probably more dumb stuff too. But it would be fun to see.

  • It's night and day. As a killer you need to be on your game 1000%. As a survivor, unless you're playing with 3 potatoes, (and at that point you can just go do totems or something) you just need to loop well, do gens, and be sneaky.

The 'power role" should not be the more stressful of the two.

  • @FFabeq said:

They need to add something good for the winter event, to recompaste the hallowen one.

Like event currency that you can buy ugly sweaters or new winter cosmetics with...

You know it won't be. More of the same.

They know they can get away with it, so they'll keep getting away with it for as long as we let them, and as long as their overlords demand it.

  • 1. Fix the Halloween event.

    2. Respect your players, especially when they come to you with concerns.

    3. Incentivize people to play Killer, the survivor queues times are getting longer and we all know it's because nobody wants to play Killer.

    4. Address the toxicity in the game community.

  • In short a bunch of curated questions, some of which were actually interesting, but a bunch of non-answers for the things people really wanted to know, such as, "when are you fixing this event?"

Nothing mollifies an angry fan base quite like a "wait and see."

  • @maderr said:

    Around 2.5 millions $/week. 🤣

And they can't optimize their game, balance it properly and release better event contents.

    Who doesn't feel swindled ?

Some of my friends are raging about some aspects of this game (balance, hitboxes, no server hit validation, framerate issues etc...) and still they can't stop buying skins. It's exactly as you say it, it's like an addiction, buying every skins when they are out.

They have spent hundreds and hundreds dollars in this game buying crap... They don't even realise it, i guess if we would calaculate the amount of money they put in this game the last two years, it would be around 1000 bucks...

It's hard to argue these guys are "Hard at work" when they release a balance patch once every couple of months, And then show us videos of themselves comfortably sitting around their homes.

I believe the art team is working, because I can visibly see the cool stuff they're making.

But you can't convince me the people who are responsible for balancing/reworking and creating Rift content aren't being lazy af.

  • Honestly it's just a straight buff to his ranged attack, with the range addon, he's monstrous.

  • He feels somewhere between Billy and Nurse. He's got great mobility, and a deceptively large amount of control.

But he definitely has a learning curve.

  • Two steps forward, one step back. For every cool killer released, for every good balance patch, we have weeks of hearing nothing from devs, or they make some stupid change that feels really greedy or completely ignorant of the community's wants or needs.

There are clearly some competent people working at BHVR, especially the art team. But I feel like they're being hamstrung by the corporate puppets.

  • Yep. I've seen it happen to multiple people. Seems to be bugged.

  • Honestly, watching that QnA and listening to Ben Stein Ethan mindlessly quote statistics really made him seem out of touch with the game and the playerbase in general. It's really obvious he doesn't actually play.

What is this sudden rise in popularity with The Thing. How would he make a good killer.

    How would he not?

  • They'll do what every dev this position does.

Wait 2 weeks, offer a half-hearted apology and promises to do better, and then double down on the microtransactions for the Christmas Event.

They won't change the event. They won't compensate us, the most we can expect is maybe a code for some bloodpoints. Maybe.

They'll learn nothing, except that some whales will pay for anything, and that's a green light for them to keep treating us like #########.

  • The sad part is, it's always their move.

The only move we have is to stop giving them money. And we don't win if we make that move, the game dies.

The problem is, they don't realize they're strangling their golden goose by trying to wring eggs out of it.

They think this event will make them a lot of money, but it's going to drive players away, and deter newer players from saying.

They really are cutting off their nose to spite their face.

  • @Justalittlepeeck said:

Yeah, it's the "if they don't know they are playing against cheaters, they wouldn't complain" mentality. Why fix the problem, when we can just pretend it doesn't exist, right? edit: I'm talking about comms of course. SWFs without comms are fine, but we all know that they don't exist, so it would be safe to assume swf=comms.

EDIT: People upvoting the comment below, why are you the way you are?

Survivors want every advantage they can get. That's why they defend comms in swf, that's why they defend DS even though it's toxic to the game.

Sweaty survivors who want to sweat harder. That's all.

  • @Hex_Stalk said:

These are things I've heard so take them with a grain of salt. If these end up happening well, I guess you can read the title of this post.

1: Halloween skins will not be earnable, instead they will have to be bought.

2: There is no difference from the last event. Same as always, just a slight bloodpoint boost.

3: The new survivor add on can be used whenever the player wants after the event has ended, but the killer is limited to during the event ONLY. (Devs, your bias is showing)

If there are any I missed then this event will be a bigger joke than I thought.

Somebody hail our new prophet, the only thing he didn't nail on the head is that the BP rewards for this event would actually be worse than before, and the event items are an actual BP scam.

You lose BP by activating the leaves! It's a total ripoff!

  • @unclefood87 said:

You know? The event where we earn putrid serum and we can unlock 6 individual blighted cosmetics or 2 full blighted costumes. It’s getting close to Halloween, I hope they release the Halloween event soon.

I know, right? This sale they've got going on is nice, but I want to know when the real event starts!

  • Candyman, Hellraiser, The Thing.

    I want them all.

  • Bad events and poor dev communication seem like a great way to kill a game's community.

Especially when that community already had to endure poor balance and unchecked toxicity.

  • @tj0108 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1696163#Comment_1696163

Not the mention the blighted generators and hooks give 1000 bloodpoints (which is absolutely nothing) and you have to bring pustula petals (which cost more to get) so your actually loosing out on bloodpoints.

Absolute stupid event, they should just revert everything and put ghastly gataeus back in the bloodweb. That would actually make people happy compared to this dissapointment of an event.

I hadn't even realized how terrible the add-ons were until you said that. We really are getting ######### over just for participating.

I saved BP for the add-ons for this event, and I kind of feel like BHVR is flipping me the bird.

  • Honestly? It's about the worst seasonal event I've ever seen in any game I've played.

    Period.

And I play a LOOOOOOT of games.

    Untitled Image

  • For real though. The skins look great, I love the revamped levels.

It stinks that your hard work is going to be overshadowed by greed and incompetence. I hope once BHVR tanks, you guys can find work at a better company.

Yeah but how can the devs differentiate whats intentional and whats not? You could accidentally come across some bug and then get banned for it, no?

Doesn't sound like you want protection from mistakes, sounds like you want to be able to cheat and get away with it.

  • @SunderMun said:

Honestly, no reason to be ashamed or proud. DCing against being tunneled off the hook by a killer player that has used a perk to remove the only slight counterplay possible against her choice of killer, when you're clearly running a meme perk that hinders you, is perfectly valid.

Honestly the real villains in all of this are behaviour for ever making players run the worst perk in the game for any reason.

  • Bad survivors will always cry foul about undying and ruin, (undying does have its problems, ruin is fine,) all the while unironicsally running BT/DS/UB/their favorite exhaustion perk.

    Meta is meta.

  • @StarLost said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1686853#Comment_1686853

    Quite simple.

    • SWF groups will (once again) face a killer at a minimum rank equal to the highest ranked survivor in the party. This immediately crushes the majority of SWF smurfcomps and means that if they want to smurf, they all have to derank.
    • SWF groups will have their matchmaking rating inflated artificially, proportional to the number of players grouped together (to counterbalance the coordination/communication advantage). Heroes of the Storm did this, and it worked pretty well.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1686855#Comment_1686855

Then why did they remove the protections against smurfing and the protections lowbie killers had against it? (Well, I know the answer - these same smurf groups started complaining about queue times and how they couldn't 'teach their lowbie friends the game, just ignore all those perks they have').

Why is deliberate killer deranking bannable, but survivor deranking isn't?

Note: survivors still have those protections. Survivors at a certain rank (I think it's yellow and below) will always be matched against a killer lower or equal to that rank. This is how the current smurfcomp works.

Again - if they were working on fixing this, why would they remove the fixes they had made - with no announcement, chance for discussion or ETA on a replacement?

    Yep. This entirely.

Also, laughing at survivors thinking their opinions on a system that entirely benefits them are valid.

  • @Mister_xD said:

thats something you'd want to report to in the Bug Reports section, no?

and if the community hadnt abused the DC option as much as they did, we wouldnt have this system now.

sadly there are those who DCed for literally anything (and they were not exactly a small number) - they dislike the map, killer, Add Ons, Offerings, someone went down too fast, they went down, the first gen didnt pop fast enough, they want their mate to get hatch, etc.

its this communities own fault this is a thing. and i wouldnt want it to get lifted again if im being honest, as those players would simply return to their old patterns of DCing whenever something doesnt go their way.

This too. I can only imagine everyone whining about this change is just mad that they gave to wait to die on hook do they can ragequit and that extra 20 seconds is just ruining their day.

  • @Deadeye said:

Complete disagreement. Noticed already way less DCs within these 2 days

Crashes occur way too less and would not lead even to a 15 min block most of the cases and even if it does, it counts for maybe 1% of all players while saving 99% of the players from lame donkey play.

If a single hit by a bug causes you to DC, or for camping and tunneling, then you are exactly the type of person that the DC penalty was made for.

And if you're so smart to throw in rejoin mechanics, maybe think a bit further and provide mechanics to avoid abusing, like DC short before hook and then rejoin.

    Yep. This.

If the DC penalty is a huge problem for you, it's because you ragequit or troll too much.

    Full stop.

  • This thread and Otzdarva's anti-tilting video he uploaded today give me hope for this community.

  • @lowiq said:

DC Penalties don't fix the core issue as to why people are DCing in the first place.

Yeah, but they do penalize, which is good enough in the short term.

Especially when lots of those "reasons" are just salt and poor character.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/197984/brainstorming-perks-powers-for-a-the-thing-killer-macready-survivor

If Your going to make perks for the survivor, i noticed that they have to connect with the survivors characters in some way. Could you describe the survivors character a bit more?

    https://thething.fandom.com/wiki/R.J._MacReady

Right so, in a nutshell, MacReady is a helicoptor pilot, and we can see his that he's generally level-headed and intelligent, if a bit immature and cynical. He's resourceful as heck, and willing to do what it takes to root out this otherworldly evil and dispose of it with extreme prejudice.

We get to see a lot of his character throughout the movie, from pouring whisky on a "Cheating" computer, to threatening to blow himself up to get his crewmates to see reason, to even threatening to kill another character to get them to do a test to verify their humanity. He comes across as ruthless and practical as the movie goes on, but is definitely the most effective and rational throughout. Even with all the people around him losing their minds to suspicion and paranoia, he stays on track, even if he has to use some pretty extreme methods to do so.

Perhaps his perks could reflect his ability to remain level headed during insane situations? Or his ability to take desperate measures to ensure the survival of humanity?

  • Yes, yes, yes!!!! I love this idea! I had the same thought, and aside from Pinhead and Candyman, this is the most plausible and iconic horror monster that is missing from the catalogue.

I want this to happen so bad!

  • I agree, survivor objectives need a big rework, they just need more to do than bones and gens. It would be so cool if each map had unique objectives that actually required proper exploration, if there were side objectives survivors could complete to get buffs/hinder the killer in interesting ways.

As it is, the survivor experience is either incredibly boring or incredibly unfun when it's just the same loops, and cramming your face into the same gens.

  • @Leachy_Jr said:

It's too strong. Be honest. It's actually too strong.

    • The effects it has overshadows every single other killer perk and perk combo.
    • It's carrying trash players through lobbies where the survivors simply just get unlucky with the totem spawns.
    • It's overboard on good players and especially on good killers like nurse where you do not have time to do totems.
    • It requires little skill to use (walking over to a gen is not skill).
    • It's extremely inconsistent to counter and too difficult to counter at times.
    • It's good on literally everyone.
    • It's quite annoying (not a reason why it's strong or needs a nerf, just a personal opinion of mine as slowdown builds are even stronger now with this combo).

Compare this to the Pop Corrupt meta we just had which IMO is a healthy meta combo:

    • Does not overshadow every perk and perk combo.
    • Took skill to capitalise on so trash players weren't carried by it.
    • A bit overboard on strong killers, but never felt as oppressive as Ruin.
    • Has a consistent counter depending on teammates skill.
    • Good on all killers, but some did not benefit from it well enough in order for it to be used over other perks.
    • A bit annoying depending on your preferences.

I know this post is going to be flamed, I just wanted to put this out there as I truly hate Ruin Undying with an absolute passion and its killing my want to play survivor. To see it constantly pushed as a healthy perk combo disappoints me as it has many glaring issues on both sides that for some reason people don't seem to acknowledge.

More importantly, if the game actually starts getting balanced at it's core (maps are fixed, gens are balanced, etc) then if ruin undying is still here then it will dominate every lobby and I have no doubts about that.

(Also yes, DS is an issue, it's just that you see 100x more Ruin Undying killers than you do 4 man DS UB squads, so don't think I don't want that nerfed too. K thanks).

Sure. As long as it happens after/at the same time as the DS/UB nerf.

  • Yeah, don't worry about what other people think. Run your toxic build and chase half the population out of this sinking ship even faster.

  • @Dreamnomad said:

Can you not spread misinformation on the second post of my thread?

  • If you just got done bullying the other team, gg is seen as sarcastic 90% of the time. Don't say gg unless it was a close game.

If one side dominated, unusually day, gg and sorry.

  • Between the teabagging, flashlight clicking, and post game trash talking, my experiences with most survivors are overwhelmingly negative.

It's bad, I fill out the surveys every time telling BHVR that it's honestly ruining the experience for me, but what are they gonna do about it? Give survivors a penalty in-game for BM? Not likely. All these salty little shits would ragequit in a heartbeat.

  • As long as it's for the memes and not to promote toxic/exploitative behaviors, it's all good.

I agree that it is harder on Solos, and that is the problem with mixing Solo and Group/Team Ques. All their solutions to deal with the Gen-Rush, SWF issue have been Perks to help slow things back down. These hit Solo disproportionately hard. It would have been better, and is still unavoidable in the long run in my opinion, to create the two Ques to balance the 5th Perk SWF get (Comms). That Que could have simply had another Generator required to power the gates AND activate a 5th Perk Slot for Killers.

In that way, the DEV can balance for the SWF without putting their boot on the neck of Solo. I'm pragmatic about it. The issue has been and will ALWAYS be SWF. The problem only gets more complicated every day as MORE AND MORE SWF groups play, and the ones we have get more practiced at coordinating the advantage it provides. I'm not against people playing with their friends. I just think we need a Group/Team/League Que to balance for them without strangling the Solos. :)

This is the best take in the entire thread. BHVR needs to stop pretending that SWF and solo queues should be in the same queue.
