  • Its the inevitable result of escalation.

The reality is that overall the things people done in game, not counting chat or anything beyond just in game using in game actions, are not extreme. There are ways to be rude and a jerk, but beyond that not much further.

However people for some reason cannot wrap there head around the fact that the person doing it likely isn't a terrible monster. They're probably immature, or bored, or just cannot grasp why something might be considered annoying and not funny.

So instead of realizing that the person on the other side either knows and that's why they do it or literally just doesn't care they keep trying to equate it to be bigger and bigger things than it is. The hope is that it will inevitably shame them into agreeing. This is why you'll see killers labeled sociopaths and other such things for camping and tunneling, despite it usually being done because those are legal and dev approved strategies. Not because the killer player wants to ruin your day.

Waiting out the egc is pretty much always a jerkass move. It's done because the survivor wants to rub their victory in your face. The same thing kids do and get punished for. There is no reason other than to be a jerk.

So of course people don't like it. However there is nothing I can say that will convince someone who does it that it is a pointless jerkass thing to do. So I instead circumvent them, and try to tell others how to do it to. Usually afk or go break stuff for points.

This isn't because I think the person being hassled is to blame, despite some very vocal people's insistence. This is because I recognize you can't out argue a child or a troll. They don't care, and any attention is a win for them. I recognize that sometimes all you can do is be the bigger person.

Slugging is valid strategy to win games and wait out DS and the best way to secure the 4K

waiting to teabag at the exit gates and clicky click serves no in game purpose other than to annoy

That's not what they are talking about and you know it.

Mannering up how? There's nothing weird about expressing exasperation when you're already unhappy with someone else and the other guy already gatekept their whole argument, not especially respectfully at that. Is 'sigh' somehow any worse than telling them to 'just manner up' in return? This is an incredibly selective nitpick to make and I'm a little baffled by it.

DBD has tons of players that initiate douchebag behavior for no other reason than to be provocative. I'll never have a problem with players who tbag the killer after they spent the game camping and tunneling, and I'll never have a problem with killers that camp and tunnel that one survivor who kept tbagging them. That's just normal social behavior, as above - when someone does something that makes you irritated, you express your irritation. But I do take umbrage with players who tbag and click at pallets/gates like it's a religious compulsion, and I do take umbrage with players who facecamp and hit or bleed out a survivor without them doing anything to deserve it, because being rude to someone who wasn't being rude to you is just being a dick and inciters bring nothing healthy to the community.

(I should stop and clarify here; I don't believe that tunneling is toxic. It gives the killer a clear advantage and is often necessary in high level gameplay, with the current state of balance. Toxic requires the player to be doing it to you because they want to piss you off and that's not the point of tunneling even if it's a result. But since it's frustrating to be subjected to, I don't fault survivors that get pissy about being tunneled, at least until they start harassing the killer in chat.)

In general, I don't understand the resistance whenever anyone says BHVR should try to improve this community and tamp down the toxicity, or that they're tired of the way things are. It feels hard to support the current state of the community in good faith (i.e., supporting it for any other reason than partaking in it and not wanting that behavior to become socially unacceptable.) That's... really the only time you lose out on the result. Otherwise, even if you don't care about people being rude to you on the internet, what do you lose by disincentivizing it? And before the obvious counterargument gets invoked, there's ways to do it that don't involve banning people for tbagging and clicking, or taking away the crouch button.

DBD's hardly the only online multiplayer PVP game I've been on. Most of them managed to have better communities than this. Sure, tbagging exists in every game with a crouch feature, but tbagging itself isn't the problem; it's players that want to stir the pot, or players that have become so bitter about their opponents that they hate them by default and play to punish. The former's hard to deal with in a non-punitive way, but the latter is very much a reaction to the state of the community. It's a cultural thing, and DBD's culture is pretty bad even for these kinds of games. You don't have to look any further than the forums to see that - the amount of resentment and disdain between the sides of this game is extremely high. That absolutely echoes in how people treat their opponents during and after a match.

Right, so your kinda forcing your way into an argument you know nothing about.

The person I replied to spent the better half of today trying to convince me I was saying its okay to harass people because I argued it's inappropriate to use sexual violence and racisim as a comparison to people teabagging which was the topic of the thread the argument began and finished. Instead of agreeing or disagreeing with this statement they instead choose to write essays about how I was obviously defending harassment and using racism as a red herring or strawman or whatever accusation they had instead of just realizing that was not at all what I was talking about.

The comment you are replying to was done in direct reference to them arguing that burping in someone's face and vomiting racial slurs are effectively the same thing. Just not qualitatively. But still the same thing.

So if you want to throw up another wall of text about how I'm defending harassment I'm going to ignore it. It has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

I completely understand tunnelling if you're bming the Killer all game. However, I get tunnelled in most of my games and I rarely (if ever) crouch at the Killer (and I never click a beamer). You don't have to be rude to the Killer for them to get a stick up their rear and target you because of your cosmetics, character you're playing, Steam profile or anything else under the sun.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2686042#Comment_2686042

Please check the post I replied to. They specifically mentioned facecamping, not simple or proxy camping.

I know, I was really just trying to clarify because of the frequency I see the two being used interchangeably. I also brought up Tunneling as well.

It doesn't happen for the personal reasons you mention as much as you may think. It's frequently you were the first they saw and the quickest to down.

It's like when your the first out in dodgeball. It's not personal or intended as an insult, and may have more to do with luck than anything. Hell you could be tunneled because the killer realized you're the only threat on the field.

  • @Hippie said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2685023#Comment_2685023

I mean, there's still a big difference between those two complaints. Tunnelling and facecamping end the game early for one or multiple Survivors, and are actually torturous to deal with in a pure gameplay sense--those two behaviors actually affect the video game mechanically. Even the developers have stated that they are trying to find a solution for facecamping, which confirms that it is a behavior that actually affects the video game negatively and needs correcting.

However, crouching and clicking have no actual effect on gameplay. There would be no difference mechanically between a Survivor standing in the exit gate doing absolutely nothing and one standing in the gate crouching repeatedly. It's purely emotional. The developers aren't going to do anything about crouching and non-macro flashlight clicking because they literally do not affect the game itself in any way, shape or form.

Not to mention, like I said previously, teabagging your opponents has existed since the dawn of multiplayer gaming, and people understand that in every other video game... except here. It's pretty crazy.

Tunneling is a dev approved strategy and face camping is rarely what people are talking about when they say camping is a strategy tho. Camping that isn't hard face camping is also a dev approved strategy.

Yes. I'm saying that this argument is a red herring. That's my exact point.

Nobody is arguing qualitative equivalency. That's what you are doing, and it's either an intentional or unintentional derailing of the argument. Ie. A red herring.

They are arguing that both of these things come from a similar place - a desire to extract enjoyment from making other people miserable, and this sort of behavior spoils the experience when it creeps into your hobby. That's the entirety of the point being made. Everything else is being added by you.

Here, again, you are derailing the argument. 'Sigh' is a common shorthand to express exasperation in an online discussion. It's not an attempt to 'socially shame' anyone (wut) or be condescending. You are attempting to twist this into some sort of personal slight to - again - derail the discussion at hand.

That said (let's assume your perspective, which I still maintain is wrong); we aren't in a match here - we are having a discussion on a forum. Different standards of behavior apply.

Again, people aren't trying to say 'teabagging someone in a videogame is the same as being a bigot'. That is a meaning that you've taken, and ran with. People are applying the 'man up or get off the internet' logic to other examples of bad behavior to demonstrate the problems with that logic.

Finally, as an aside - it's...pretty odd to see someone saying 'if you are annoyed by teabagging in a game it's a you problem' and then saying 'I'm being triggered by the word 'sigh'. You can't have it both ways.

    No, I'm really not.

Your argument is that people should just be civil and polite, but you are constantly attempted to chip away at people emotionally to get them to agree with you or became emotionally unstable.

Otherwise know as manipulation. It's also why you keep defending doing it.

That's why you keep brushing it aside. It's why no matter how many times I say I'm not defending anything you keep saying I do. Your goal is to make me emotionally unstable so I will agree with you or leave. I never once said your last paragraph because I don't believe in it. Yet here you are, again, openly accusing me of saying something I didn't, all to get an emotional reaction from me. It's why you also used the word triggered. Your goal with these words is to attack me emotionally, to harm my ego.

This is why you're a hypocrite at best and a troll at worst.

I never once said being harassed is a you problem, I said making any comparison to racism and ######### is wrong and people need to stop doing it. You are the one who keeps insisting otherwise.

  • @StarLost said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2685298#Comment_2685298

I read what you typed and I gave my counter.

All you've been doing is essentially strawmanning/red herring-ing people's arguments - generally by shifting the focus of the argument to semantics (in a sort of whatabouty way). Nobody is saying that teabagging is the same as yelling slurs at someone - they are just giving examples of negative behavior that are difficult to completely prevent but are worth disincentivizing. In both cases, someone is extracting entertainment by spoiling another persons experience.

Rather than responding to it, you just made a bad attempt at parody.

And...no, expressing exasperation on a forum isn't BM. Nowhere in my 'code' (which I'd say is pretty much just the standard 'social contract' stuff) does it say that you can't get exasperated or point out fallacies.

If the game had a 'dammit' or 'frustration' emote, that would be the equivalent.

My argument is that using racism and ######### as examples is wrong since they are absolutely different things than being rude.

Your counter was to insist I am defending being rude or a jerk because I recognize there is a massive difference between being a hateful racist and being immature.

You, unhappy that I am not arguing that it's okay to be a jerk, repeatedly say I am because it validates your righteous indignation.

You are now, and have been, attempting to attack people emotionally in an attempt to make them agree with you out of fear of social shame. "Sigh" has and always has stood to be condescending. You know this, that's why your trying to defend it. You don't want to be held accountable for your behaviour. Crazy considering the topic huh? There is literally no other point to le Sigh at people.

The only reason for comparing an action to racism or ######### is to force a correlation between disagreement with you and agreement with those actions. There is no other reason to use it. People have been able to discuss this topic just fine without acting that way. Yet you are defending it. Which by your own statements, means that you frequently correlate anyone who disagrees with you with agreeing with racism.

Fatalism is mostly just another word for apathy. There are plenty of ways to discourage this, or to encourage more positive behavior - and other games have managed some pretty amazing turnarounds in this regard.

'Mental fortitude' doesn't work the same way you think it does. That's mostly about being able to control your actions no matter what you are feeling. Being able to struggle on and continue to do your job despite being massively depressed and the like.

Controlling feelings isn't really possible. That's not how human beings operate on a neurological level.

At this point t the only way to get you to read what I type is by mimicking you, otherwise you can't seem to get past the first sentence. What else am I supposed to do?

Also, sighing? Again? You realize that is being hypocritical right? You are literally betraying your own arguments by doing that. What exactly does 'livelihood' have to do with this anyway?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2684220#Comment_2684220

    I understand what he's saying.

When you defend something objectively negative, there are usually 3 possibilities:

    • You indulge in that thing yourself.
    • You are being contrarian for the sake of arguing.
    • You lack empathy and that negative thing doesn't effect you personally.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2684217#Comment_2684217

Pings are needed in LoL. Emotes are needed in LoL. Ping spamming and emote spamming are both straight up bannable.

It's easy for a reasonable person to differentiate between someone crouching and someone being a jerk.

Flashlight spam is imho a bigger issue because that strobing gives me a headache at times and I've only got very mild photosensitivity issues.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2684295#Comment_2684295

People can't just choose to not be upset any more than people can choose not to be depressed or frightened.

Human neurochemistry doesn't work that way.

Of course, reasonableness does come into it - but I don't think it's unreasonable to not want a less toxic community, especially when people have made endless suggestions of how to do this.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2684283#Comment_2684283

Anything prefaced with 'I mean this in the x way possible' is shorthand for 'I want to say something meant in the opposite way but I don't want to get called out in it'. It's a debate tactic called shielding and yes, it's fallacious.

I'd much rather say 'grow a set and manner the hell up'.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2684242#Comment_2684242

I've suggested turning the upvote into something that could award people BP, but it would be up to the opponent whether you get it or not.

Others have suggested a system similar to Overwatch's 'endorsement' system, which would also be a pretty elegant solution.

If it was up to me, I'd bring the LoL Tribunal to DbD...but I'm a grumpy old dad who grew up in a generation where being a massive jerk wasn't somehow defended as a good thing.

Also, never defended it. In fact I typed it in big bold letters. But that would require actually reading what someone else said and I can't expect that from you.

  • @StarLost said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2684580#Comment_2684580

    Sigh.

That's a red herring and you know it.

My point was that people :

    A. Recognize and

    B. React to

linguistic or behavioral queues in a manner that they can't control at an emotional level. They cannot control their neurochemistry as this occurs on a deeper layer than volition extends to - for anyone. They can moderate their actions based on those reactions, but the actual internal state is not subject to conscious control. You can be trained out of those reactions (generally via some form of CBT) but that's not really easy or reliable and can also mess people up badly (see: 'bomb-proofing' training).

Or to put it more simply, you can control what you do, but not how you feel.

Also - I swear, I need to make a Bingo sheet for these threads...

We've knocked off red herring fallacy, ad hominum and 'it's not the fault of the person acting like a jerk, it's your fault for being irritated by them' blame shifting in a single post.

All I need now is a 'get off the internet' and I'll have a full millennial Bingo!

Seriously though, no. The world is a nasty enough place sometimes for me to also have to deal with it in my hobby. You know, the place I come to relax after dealing with real life. I don't think an expectation that I should be able to enjoy said hobby without dealing with a constant flow of chuds is unreasonable. Other bigger, much more competitive games have pulled this off pretty well.

(As an aside: it really is frightening to me how much time you chaps will put into defending being a jerk, rather than just mannering up).

You're typing of sigh makes you hypocrite. There's is no reason to type that other than to be condescending. It's frightening how much effort you put into these posts instead of just mannering up.

    I'm pushing 50.

I started gaming on arcade machines and playing chess on ancient green and black monitors.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2683834#Comment_2683834

    You're strawmanning.

In the context of what we are discussing, there is no difference between yelling a slur at someone and deliberately belching in their face (following your own example).

In both cases, you are acting in a deliberately nasty manner to make someone else unhappy for your own personal enjoyment.

That is the long and short of it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2683863#Comment_2683863

The core issue is that toxicity propagates outwards.

Someone BMs me in games 1 and 2, so I go into games 3 through 10 out to hurt people. Which gives them a miserable experience, leading them to be BM - and on it goes, ad infinitum.

Tit for tat is one of the most powerful human responses.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2683943#Comment_2683943

Honestly, I'm inclined not to believe you - because your conduct on the forums (ranging from being disingenuously contrarian to deliberate, Sluzzy-esque flamebaiting minus the self parody) does indicate either a tendency towards extracting enjoyment from annoying people or a blistering lack of self awareness. Not trying to be mean, just saying what I've observed. There is a reason why a lot of people lose their temper with you, Iron.

That said...this is true of a lot of people who engage in toxic behavior. They aren't even really aware of it anymore - which is why a warning system can be so effective at letting them know 'hey, you are spoiling things for a lot of people - knock it off'.

And see - that's the thing. It's not a matter of being 'offended' (lets not bring that culture war crap into this) - it's a matter of sportsmanship. Having a decent, sportsmanlike community or at least building your game towards encouraging this is what determines whether you end up as League of Legends or Smite.

But I'm always amazed at how much effort people will spend shifting the blame...rather than just mannering up.

I've actually suggested something closer to the Overwatch 'endorsement' system, where you'd be able to give good, non-toxic opponent some sort of reward.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2683996#Comment_2683996

You're...either totally missing or deliberately trying to twist what Sherbert was trying to say.

Let me see if I can paraphrase here:

Just because something happens in an online game and is almost possible to completely prevent does not mean that you shouldn't bother trying - because both hacking and toxicity make your game a lot less enjoyable for a ton of people.

I find being told I am strawmanning offensive. You are clearly acting in a deliberately nasty manner for your own amusement. That's just the long and short of it.

  • @TheSubstitute said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2684055#Comment_2684055

I also have some experiences I will not get into that make this personal for me. I had a much longer response but I'm just going to say this. I'm very sorry over what happened to you but you are not making any attempt to understand why this could be triggering to someone else who had similar problems. That's fine; people respond differently. However, teabagging is not cool and the excuses being used to defend making someone else feel miserable are the exact same being used to defend slurs and ethnic jokes that made my family feel miserable. That is also not cool.

I do not feel the majority of people who teabag are condoning sexual violence or racism. They are, however, using the same excuses that were used to excuse racism to defend their behaviour which is victim blaming. It can also be triggering to people who have experienced sexual violence. They either don't know or don't understand (which happens) or they're too selfish to care. Whether you make that association or not because of your experiences is valid for you; it is not how someone else will react and their reaction is equally valid. Nobody controls how someone else reacts and everyone has to work through terrible experiences in their own way.

In the end, everyone is playing a video game and we want to have fun. I know you don't condone teabagging or being rude but it can have problematic associations for other people and it's better to speak out against toxic behaviour than imply that people should just get over it (a stance that I'm not sure since I don't know you but I think you might agree with).

This discussion is getting a bit heated so I'm going to step back. If you want to please consider my point (or not as you prefer) and I hope you have a good night (and I apologize for implying this post would be short; I obviously lost that somewhere).

The fact you keep insisting I am defending someone being rude or a jerk is proof you aren't reading anything I'm typing. You're fake compassion is unneeded and unwanted.

  • @TheSubstitute said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2683834#Comment_2683834

I think I lost my previous post so I apologize if this is a repeat. You are the one who is not making a connection. I have significant experience with both issues. I worked with victims of sexual assault for over a decade helping them recover from their trauma. I'm not even going to get into more personal items. If you do not think that taunting strangers using something that references sexual activity could not be triggering you are being clueless.

And I specifically referenced ethnic jokes as most weren't told to be offensive; they were 'funny'. While racism is a far worse problem I am not directly equating the severity of the issue; I'm equating their intent. Both racist jokes and teabagging are done to make fun of other people at their expense. That's the connection you're overlooking.

So, other than upsetting people, is there any reason to teabag? You don't know what the other person has gone through who's sitting on the other side of the screen. Why be a jerk and, depending on their background, offend people far worse than what you intended so you (if you do tbag) can have a laugh at people at their expense?

Paragraph one. I personally know what it's like to be sexually victimized as a child over several years. So you can shuffle that card back in the deck. If you draw connections to anything and everything that could possibly in anyway set off a victim then dbd needs to be deleted. What if a doctor or a clown sexually assaulted someone? Ffs clown is a reference to John Wayne Gayce. Freddy is a pedophile. Trapper and leather face were abused. Huntress kidnapped, abused and murdered children. Need I go on? So much in this game would do the trick long, long, long before what you are insisting.

Paragraph two. Intent is meaningless without context and severity. By your logic someone willing to work hard in school to get a good job is no better the someone willing to lie cheat and steal to get a good job as both of their intents are to get a good job. I've seen this pathetic excuse time and time again, mostly with people comparing stream sniping to blaming people for being a victim of sexual violence.

And finally, because you can't seem to get this through your head. Paragraph 3.

I AM CRITICIZING YOU FOR YOUR CHOICE TO IN ANYWAY CONNECT RACISIM AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE TO BEING RUDE. THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS DEFENDING BEING RUDE. JUST BECAUSE I WONT CONSIDER AN IMPOLITE CHILD TO BE ANYTHING CLOSE TO A NAZI DORSNT MEAN I THINK THEIR BEHAVIOUR IS OKAY.

Shockingly it's almost as if I have some kinda of personal experiences that make it clear to see how much ######### different one is from the other. Not that it matters right?

  • @TheSubstitute said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2683579#Comment_2683579

The other point I thought I would make is that you don't get to control how people react to offensive behavior. The person making the ethnic slur is just 'joking'. A person who dealt with sexual assault may be offended by the person who's taunting using a behaviour that references a sexual activity. Just stop acting terrible and respect other people. It's just a video game doesn't mean there isn't a real person on the other side.

So both your posts miss the point people are saying... which once again makes me think your a troll.

I'm not defending rudeness. I'm pointing out that reacting to someone being rude by comparing it to racism is a terrible thing to do. Just because I said there's a difference between a nazi and someone who didn't cover there mouth when they burped doesn't mean I'm defending burping in people's faces.

As for your second post... stop. Trying to compare someone tapping crouch to jokes about ######### victims and racism is disgusting. Outright disgusting. It has no place in this thread or this discussion. Stop.

There is an infinite chasm between someone being kinda rude in a game and someone being openly bigoted. Stop putting the two anywhere near each other. You aren't helping anyone in anyway. You're just degrading the struggle and frustrations of people you clearly know nothing about if you think they have any place in the same breath.

  • @TheSubstitute said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2680844#Comment_2680844

Sort of like when people say racial slurs to my family or tell ethnic jokes. They're just joking or that's how they speak. It means nothing unless I make it.

Or, instead of acting like terrible people, they could just not do things whose only purpose is to annoy and upset other people.

    No those are different things....

Slurs are bad because of the implied violence and social debasement behind them. This is doubly so in face to face conversation. In fact any comparison to real world harassment to some generalized action or swear in a video game is a bad joke at best and degradingly ignorant at worst.

Someone teabagging is someone being rude. Rudeness and racism are different things. Like.... very very different things.

I mean what next does burping at the dinner table make you a nazi? Not wearing socks at a guests house?

    I really, really hope you're a troll.

  • Its because instead of trying to appeal to emotions loud players are now trying to shame skill more often right now, once it stops working it'll go back to emotion.

To elaborate, the most common argument for a long time was "Killers should follow my rulebook because it's unfun for me otherwise." Arguments about how you must have no emotions, you're selfish, self centered, a sociopath, a sex offender, an incel were thrown about to various extents depending on what level of social media hell you were viewing. This stopped working after the inherit hypocrisy became incredibly obvious and slowly the arguments turn into "Don't you want to get good? Unless you follow my rulebook you'll never get good."

Just like with the appeal to emotions this is now being rebuked by arguing that survivors are every bit as guilty of doing whatever easier but within the rules, and that it is easier overall. Once these arguments lose effectiveness the appeals to emotion will kick back up again.

Now, it's not that either completely dissapear, they just wax and wane as the most predominant arguments based on what has been done more often recently.

There's dying first and there's being singled out to make sure you don't get to do anything. They are not equivalent. They both suck, but only one of those things requires making sure one person completely wasted their time joining the queue.

I wish the game kept note of someone being three hooked within two minutes if the first hook. Then went out of their way to match you with elite SWF bully squads. The kind that could win any time, but instead harass the killer for fifteen to twenty minutes in the process.

No it's just part of the game.

A pitcher isn't required to make sure everyone gets a hit. The killer isn't required to make sure you get a full game.

This has nothing to do with empathy. It's a video game. Stop trying to attack the moral fiber of a person because you lost.

Probably older than people who believe appeasement and letting bullies exist is the way to go. Honestly it just sounds like laziness, and again, "We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas." I legit must assume anyone posting "Ugh just ignore it!" does it themselves.

It has nothing to do with "appeasement".

People act that way for attention and to get reactions.

By not giving them attention or reactions the primary reason for them to do it is gone.

There is a big difference between saying a behaviour is okay and recognizing when the appropriate answer to said behaviour is to walk away.

No I don't "do it myself" I just don't see why I would do something that rewards and encourages negative behaviour.

  • Its really not tho... thats kinda the point being made here. Unless the macro is being used it's perfectly fine for them to do it.

Survivors have no obligation not to flick their flashlights at you to death, which is an effective strategy at distracting you, yet doing so is kind of being a dick, don't you think?

Its only bad if they are using the macro. Otherwise they can do it all they want. Its their flashlight.

    Edited for clarity.

Doing everything you can to ensure one player doesn't get to play the game is a crappy thing to do. I don't care if it's effective or efficient. It makes the one person you're crapping on feel like they're being personally slighted. It's a crappy thing to do and requires a lack of empathy for the people you're playing against and immediately removes the possibility of it being a "good game".

No it's just playing the game you signed up for. Dbd is a game where there is a chance you can get ejected in the first few minutes through legal and fair play.

I'm sorry you lost, but you weren't anymore personal attacked then when you strike out. The pitcher has no obligation to pitch slower so you can get a hit. The killer has no obligation to make sure you get a long game.

Why not just permanently ban - or disallow chat at the very minimum - for everything in your list except generic insults? We don’t need anymore of those kind of people in the DbD community. Or anywhere for that matter.

Because if I'm understanding what your asking it turns into an unending arms race. Like when Grape was banned from I think it was the WoW forums because people were using it as a substitute.

The honestly best way to deal with it is for people to report it. Banning words literally never works. Punishing bad behaviour has better results.

I think it's a shame though that we now blame people for having chat enabled for receiving toxicity. You do get rare moments of people being nice in the chat window (although its mostly just gg, or console silence)

    Its not blame.

The people who act like that do it for attention. So why give them it. Acting in such a way that not only fails to deter them but actively encourages the behaviour makes absolutely no sense.

You have to grasp you can't control people actions. No matter how hard you scream insults at them.

You wanna keep the chat open? You wanna type gg wp? Do it. Just don't give power to jerks by indulging their behaviour. Click the button and move on. Don't do what OP did.

  • You're choosing to experience it daily.

This isn't someone following you home or hounding you at work. It's a chat box that dissapears with a click of one of many buttons. You have all the power in this confrontation but you're choosing to hand it over for seemingly no reason.

All you have done is given those people a pat on the back and encouraged them to do it again.

  • I thought this was going to be about people macro flicking the flashlight at the killer.

They aren't doing anything wrong. Just learn to hear where they are going.

  • I like how the point of this thread had nothing to do if the other sides actions bothered you but the hypocritical notion that killer should care about survivors feelings while survivors don't.

And now there are these huge essays that have nothing to do with anything and like 90% of the posts completely dodge the point to justify the behaviour to begin with. It's great.

  • Considering I have never seen survivors talk in pre game even before cross play I don't think there would be a whole lot of difference.

    Maybe I'm unlucky.

  • Is... is this bate... I can't tell... I need to think about stuff.

  • Really just ignore them. It's stupid and hypocritical and there is nothing you can say that will stop it.

All you can do is take the power from them. Do what others are saying. Break stuff, spam skills. If I'm clown I [BAD WORD] around with the invigorate and see if I can hit ramps.

If you make it your time they can't take it from you, only lose theirs.

Would love to see that. I really like the scourge hooks but whenever I add them in the map rng puts them in the far corners away from the gens.

Ahhh the swamp. Where all my scourge hooks are the ones in the corners behind the trees and I need agitation and iron grip to ever reach them.

  • Jonah Vasquez eh? Any relation to Johnen Vasquez I wonder.

  • I like my pissplosion bottles. I use them more than any other add on.

This isn’t true killers keep saying they’re gonna leave and queue times will go up it’s a joke. I play on Xbox w crossplay on never takes more than a min to find a survivor game, finding a killer game takes 5-10 min. Killers are a dime a dozen every one queues them

Probably because most killers don't actually care anywhere near as much as the handful that come here do.

People forgot quite often that social media is a small fraction of the player base. Things said here are rarely the whole picture.

  • Didn't they separate themselves from that pile of hog [BAD WORD]?

Also disagree on this lol both sides dictate the experience overall.

On one side you having camping Bubbas and on the other you have a 4 man with brand new parts.

And of course the frequency both sides aggressively exaggerate what someone did. Then scream about how unfun something is, regardless of the fact they don't give a [BAD WORD] about the other team.

  • This smells like bate mate.

  • The only real way to deal with it is to not respond.

For these people its the attention they want. It validates them. Even being nice doesn't work because they still see you as acknowledging them. If you ignore them, and they stop getting any response, they will either stop or slow down immensely.

Even this post if seen by the player will encourage them to do it more. If anyone says anything negative that will not only make them feel validated but vindicated as they will use what is said to justify future behaviour "see they are just as bad as me!".

This doesn't mean don't look at chat if you like it. It means talk around them. If you toss out a gg and someone else does as well talk to them, but don't acknowledge the screaming kid.

  • People need to stop complaining about people complaining then acting like it's a Han shot first moment.

Everyone can use whatever perk they want. Everyone can play the way they want within the rules. Using DH is in the rules. Tunneling and camping is in the rules. Get over it.

All any of these threads amount to is people complaining about how unfair it is they lost a game, then trying to make it into a federal ######### issue.

  • Yeah... farming is boring as it is. Farming with one survivor is miserable and boring.

I'd let you have hatch but I'm not waiting around. As soon as I'm bored I'm going to hunt for you. If I see you doing a gen I'll hook you.

    Just leave.

For all the Killer mains complaining Survivors are too strong, I thought it would be easier to find a Killer queue.

Took me like 5 minutes to find a Nurse game for a daily just now

Probably because most social media is only a small sample of the group. Something you most likely already know considering your choice of wording and are likely just trying to start another whose worse fight.

  • Maybe once or twice a month and it's always my internet not anything the game or I did.

Also apperently steam refreshes on Tuesdays so it may also be just that as well.

  • If no one is holding the switch it drops to a capped 80/85. That way it can't be abused, it's not a millisecond but is still fast enough that you can do last minute saves.

  • New mmr makes it really easier to play against weaker survivors, at least it has for me.

Its nice because I play lazy with clown and use stuff like agitation and brutal strength, and either oppression or nothing for regression/detection.

Since the new mmr I tend to play against other survivors who are either new or are playing like me with one ######### game ever so often. Usually ever 4th or 5th.

Honestly I've been leaning towards the two hook then slug game. The games fun in the lower ranks and the new mmr let's it be fun for longer. In the old system I found you'd have to throw and throw hard to get away from the gitngud crowd.

I can’t imagine how Bubba’s can get nearly max bloodpoints for camping.

If the survivors are new or if they are stupid the Bubba can chain hook trades pretty easy.... but it really requires the survivors to be really, really new or really desperate to have something to be mad about.
