Sadly… until it's true major pushback from the community, I doubt we'll see it.

People would have to vote with their dollars and I don't see that collectively happening which would be most effective.

Not only that but they need to see less people logging into the game while letting the devs know they want the game code optimized before they come back. If they had started this process years ago, they would be done at this point. Priorities have never been BHVRs strength..

I don't care at this point if the IP isn't dedicated to horror. We have enough stupid and distracting cosmetics that I'm willing to head canon explain any cool character in this game.

Star Wars does have scary elements that aren't necessarily horror but unsettling.

Most of the original killers are not scary or seem like they fit in a horror setting such as Legion, Trickster, Knnight and especially Skull Merchant. Some licensed characters while awesome to have aren't necessarily dedicated to horror but more fantasy such as Vecna or even some licensed cosmetics for killers. But something a lot of us tend to forget is horror and what's scary is very subjective.

I don't care one way or another but I'd be all for Darth Vadar specifically. That being said I hate Star Wars so again - don't care but Darth Vadar is a cool character I can see working. Don't even want to argue about power levels because every other licensed character isn't at their power level so it shouldn't even be a conversation at this point.

I agree 100%. I don't think it matters anymore how horror based the license is. If it will bring people in while at least having a dark tone it will fit right in.

  • Neither is Tomb Raider..eh? Lara Croft is here. Adding Lara Croft is similar to adding Indiana Jones.

Really? I thought All-Kill was one of the strongest concepts DBD's brought to the table in a long time, he's very well written imo.

That chapter is when I started playing the game alone… :/ Everybody left me playing DBD alone after Trickster was revealed.. It just came off as a stupid concept for many people I think. I'll agree the map had the most potential. Even I wanted an All-Kill map.

  • @jesterkind said:

I don't know why you'd point to Trickster as evidence here, he's always been an excellent fit tonally, he's one of the killers I think BHVR did the best job with when it comes to justifying his presence in the game.

A better example would be Vecna, someone who is not from a horror franchise who was adapted to fit the game anyway. He's good evidence that BHVR can do this, though I don't know how far they can take that the further away you get from horror.

As for Vader specifically… I think DBD has a strained relationship to sci fi stuff like that. Alien and the Singularity are in the game, but it's clear they're approaching sci fi from a very different angle to something like Star Wars. I'm not sure if it'd fit, personally.

I don't know a single person IRL that looked at Trickster and took it seriously, so that chapter went down in history for me as the biggest let down of DBD until Skull Merchant anyway.. Legion is more exciting tbh.

  • Also any assumption that Disney wouldn't let them use Vader is ridiculous. Star Wars is no more important than the Alien franchise and DBD already has that.

  • @BlackRabies said:

Sure Darth Vader is an amazing character, but the biggest problem is that Vader and the whole Star Wars franchise isn't horror. So it doesn't make any sense and he's not a fit into the theme that DBD holds.

I've heard there is a star wars novel that is horror with the story going over a zombie plague like out break on a space ship. Vader had no part of that story and barely anyone knows of that novel so I highly doubt that would be enough to make a chapter for.

Also since Vader is so powerful what's to stop him from just instant killing the survivors or destroying the realms. He's likely strong enough to even destroy the Entity. The strongest killers currently in DBD either have limiters on them restricting their power or they wanted to be part of the trails. Vader certainly won't accept it.

And one more thing! Can't compare killers and survivors of who fits and who doesn't. Killers are suppose to be the faces of horror not the survivors.

Just like Vecna has the Entities mark on the back of his neck, so too would Vader. Simple. I mean he was less powerful in games like Soul Calibur and Fortnite. Don't think it matters that much.

I don't understand where the enjoyment comes from using a perk that plays the game for you. It guides you to exactly where you need to go. Where is the fun when you don't need to think about your chases at all?

It makes the hardest part of the game much easier for newer people. If you want to learn loops and pallet spawns, WoO is a must.. It's that simple. It isn't hurting anything.

  • @danielmaster87 said:

He needs his old terror radius and instascope back. People didn't like his old TR because combined with Monitor, it was smaller. God forbid killers strategize and combo between killer properties and perks.

They also didn't like his instascope because you "couldn't react to it." They miss the point. It's not about reacting; it's about being unpredictable. You dodge, dodge, then don't dodge, and that's when he takes his shot and misses because you mixed it up. This is the same idea for counterplay against Nurse, Huntress, and Spirit, but we saw how that worked out for Spirit. Notice how even when Deathslinger had instascope, his kill rate was low and was never seen in tournament, unlike the previously mentioned killers.

I do like the OP's suggestions above. They reflect having lots of experience on the killer, and having the killer's viability in mind. But I think unless he gets the instascope back, he's gonna stay extremely clunky, unviable, and not fun to play.

They don't seem to want to make Deathslingers aiming instant anymore. Maybe we can all meet in the middle. Make the aim instant as it use to be and the "stop aiming" animation just as slow as the current aim speed. That'd be nice as we'd get to quick aim/shoot again while also not being able to spam the animation as letting go is where the long pause would be instead of aiming.

And will likely return to around 35K when people realize what DBD is

I have to agree with Pulsar on this. I do believe FNAF will crush the all time high #'s on every platform, but once people realize the very stale and repetitive nature of DBD itself, those #'s will go right back down. I think a huge part of this is that the Survivor side of the game which most people try out first is just boring. I really hope they try to diversify Survivors eventually sort of like Operators in Rainbow 6 Siege. The Survivor side of the game is the one that most people play overall and unfortunately there is much less to that side than Killer. The Killer side is great in terms of depth and replay value. The Killer Powers beings so different and unique is what nails it.

I also don't think Survivor being the more boring side of DBD is really debatable seeing as how the game tends to lose a good amount of people awhile after big licensed content is brought into the game. Majority of those people leaving are people who don't like the far too simple nature of Survivor and are too intimidated to play Killer I'd say. 0 depth on the Survivor side.

  • Unfortunately the majority of any community are not free thinkers. That said however, in anything like DBD's case there are not proper tutorials or recommendations from within the game itself, so people have to look up all the information themselves and use another person's ideas. :/ Stuff like bad tutorials and not giving players more information within the actual games causes a lot more player retention loss than these companies realize.

Survivors need a visual indicator when you're in crawler mode. But i do agree that they kinda did beno dirty.

They wouldn't need an indicator if the tail was M2 while the Alien stands upright though. He'd crouch and stab the tail.. Not sure what they were thinking. It feels terrible to have a lower FOV just so we can enter a mode that wasn't necessary to begin with.

Killers burned down the forums and complained about the "extra gen popping when a survivor dies" bug. That was fixed within 6 days. Fixed

The identical thing happened to survivors where merciless storm was bugged and deleted the entire gen, even if you hit the skill checks, and that went on without being kill switched or fixed for over two months.

It's now day 7 since the patch, and they haven't even acknowledged that thrill is an issue, let alone anything beyond that.

You can try to spin that fixes are biased all you want, but if you're going that route you won't like where the facts and patch history take you.

How long did it take them to address Dead Hard? More than any you listed.. xD Was it years? They listen to the 4 whining Survivors much more often than the singled out Killer and everyone knows it.

  • No. DBD has yet to even cross my mind for the Labor of Love award and it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon.. The most recent chapter speaks for itself… Garbage in…garbage out..

  • Just sending the dog in a straight line that the Survivors can literally dodge by taking one step to the left or right immediately tells me that this Killer wasn't tested. At least not by or against people with common sense… -_- They really were not trying to convince us that it's a real dog at all with that ability. Is this a robot dog? Is that in the lore? Seems pretty hard to mess that up from where I'm standing. Being on the inside and looking out must make you blind, deaf, and dumb.

  • Houndmaster by a long shot. I wish I could say SM.. Regardless of sending the dog to search or chase the dogs "circle" should always be there and yes he should grab them if they slightly dodge to the left or right. Dog is WAY to easy to dodge that it's laughable. Especially from a realistic standpoint it just looks stupid as hell. A real dog totally wouldn't just change its direction and instead go towards a spot where the Survivor use to be. It's Knight all over again…

  • @SidneysBane1996 said:

LOL they are 100% not gonna killswitch a perk just because the other side finds it inconvenient and too strong before an event. They didn't do it for MFT before Anniversary 2023, BBQ, or Haunted by Daylight. They won't here either.

You have to remember that MFT is a Survivor perk. This is a Killer perk getting whined about. I have no doubt Thrill will be touched before Xmas break. When Killer stuff is whined about, it doesn't last as long as Survivor stuff does ever since Ruin/Undying. There's only 1 person complaining when it's Survivor OP, vs 4 whiners against Killers OP..

No thank you. We don't need Iridescent Hatchet Huntress proxy camp ready to fire.

Iri Hatchet is a bad excuse not to buff Insidious. I'd just say remove Iri Hatchet regardless of anything else as it's a pretty dumb addon.

  • We need Classic RE3 Nemmy look and Dr Salvador for Hillbilly!

  • Agreed. Make every projectile have the same hit box as a Huntress hatchet.

  • Same as everything in the world. The "illusion" of choice/change.

  • It is quite interesting to hear the devs say they embrace the chaos of DBD when something like Map Offerings are the complete opposite of that. Picking a MO is a very definitive and structured choice by either side, and usually means they have a plan to "try" to set the game in their favor. Embracing the chaos would force the maps to ALWAYS be random. I guess it's okay to be hypocritical when you're the one making the game.. :/

  • @ArkInk said:

If it were to happen, January would be the time to unveil it. I'm not getting my hopes up at this point, but it'd be a treat to hear Englund take up the mantle one last time, especially in in the fog.

We can only hope. Ball is in BHVR's court. Not sure if you can really put a price on something as iconic as the OG Freddy. Whatever amount Wes Craven Estate wants, just give it to them.. You'll make it all back when FNAF comes out anyway.

  • Many of these issues for newer people can be solved with BETTER TUTORIALS… I don't think BHVR know how to make anything BETTER though.. They just sort of listen to the community and see what sticks. When the community is secretly making the game for itself, we have a problem…

Tutorials need to be made to show new Survivors what objectives are most important at what time, WHEN is a good time to unhook, do a gen, etc. We need Killer tutorials that try to help newer Killers understand what they're focus should be as soon as a match starts, or WHEN to stop chasing the same person. The game has none of this.. Without good tutorials for your players, you're automatically telling them that you expect them to like the game enough to look all this information up themselves, which is NOT going to happen most of the time..

If the game never explains how it should actually be played then why would anyone continue to play it if they're lost? Instead of marketing this game as "A DEADLY GAME OF HIDE AND SEEK" and have your new players sitting and hiding the entire match…. you should really be helping them understand the steps of each match and how to get through trials as best they can. The tutorials we have atm are extremely lackluster for how complex the game really is. It seems simple of course but it really isn't. DBD isn't only in a more niche genre for a bigger audience to enjoy, but the play style required to succeed is even more unusual than most games.

DBD has never been one of those games you can just pick up and have fun due to the huge learning curve on each side that refuses to be acknowledged. This is why when a large amount of new people come into the game, most of them are gone within that same few weeks or month that they joined. New people tend to see the game as shallow and simple, when it's actually quite the contrary. At almost 10 years later, I really don't understand why we can't get better tutorials for new people to add some sense to the madness.. Just letting everything be a Free For All gives the message that you as a new person are on your own..

And just so everybody knows this, there is a reason the devs DON'T have a specific outline on how a match should be played out. MCote has said they've embraced the chaos of DBD. Let all 4 Survivors pick the same character with the same outfit to confuse the Killer player even more… Let all 4 Survivors run the 4 strongest perks and be in a SWF at the same time. Let the Killer just stomp 1 Survivor only into the ground. As long as the other 4 are having fun who cares right? No limitations whatsoever. The reason for this is it just gives them an excuse to not have to try so hard to keep the game balanced. When the chaos is being embraced it will only lead to downfall. No structure. The higher your structure is going to be, the deeper the foundation must be as well.

DBD was a beautiful mistake. They even admitted it when it starting gaining traction back in the day. BHVR isn't some asymm game making genius or anything. They simply got lucky with this genre and any/all licensing companies ever agreeing to using their prolific horror icons.

The answers are literally right in front of BHVR… Finding a spot to fit this into their unreasonably tight and probably questionable "priority list" is another thing..

I’ve heard Craven’s licenses are hard to acquire because they’re extremely expensive.

OG Freddy would be worth every penny assuming he is voiced like Pinhead was.

  • She fits in way more than Nicolas Cage does… -_-.. Are people really that concerned about this?

  • Nicolas Cage doesn't really have anything to do with horror.. He was in some B movies and that's it.. Lara Croft belongs here just as much as Nick does so..

  • Few different ideas:

    1. Repeat Killer prevention except for new releases of course.
    2. Maps would have a day/night transition. Start during the night and the sun would start to rise mid match and it would be daylight by the time all the generators are done or all Survivors have escaped/been killed.
    3. Invisible walls around 2 story or taller buildings..wouldn't be a thing.
  • Anyone complaining about it has obviously been pampered for far too long.. xD

  • Zombies should always know where a Survivor is if they're infected unless there is only one person left. Also give them the highest movement speed addon base kit when their arms are out chasing Survivors.

  • @Yippiekiyah said:

The maps are literally killing the game on their own at this point.

    This guy gets it.

  • I have to completely disagree. I'd argue that tunneling is one of the top 2 reasons why most new players just stop playing the game in general. It isn't a play style. Tunneling is just the devs way of not having to balance their game better. They say its a valid strategy so they can continue to fool themselves and anyone else who actually believes that BS. The less work they have to do to the "core experience of DBD" (make all maps the same size and so on) the better in their eyes. Laziness has plagued this game for a LONNNNNNNG time.

I hate to say it but DBD is a prime example of what I imagine is a much lower level of quality standards than many other games as popular as DBD could get away with. Bare minimum effort is the vibe I have when looking at this game. It shows in every aspect.

  • Before SBMM was implemented and I'm sure I'm not the only one..as that's when the player numbers really started to tank.

  • Classic RE3 Nemesis model… Looks so much better than the newer one..

I know they were added to prevent cases of people getting ontop of loops and just becoming invincible against some killers. Or killers dropping on loops to batman a survivor. Though the former was more interesting. But they seem to be getting to impulsive with adding them. You can't chainsaw as billy off the top of haddonfield house or any other high place. You cant demo shred which added more interesting sky leap-hits. And even huntress and slinger who could get cheaky hits through some stuff (backwater swamp) cant now. I feel it removes a element of realism and interesting gameplay of being at a higher elevation. (Also a lot of the time they end up bugged. I remember eyrie had a giant invisible wall on one of the stairways) its pretty unfortunate.

At some point they really need to go through every version of every map and make it so the collision matches the models of everything… Trees are still particularly bad. Also some objects that only go up to the waist of a killer such as the classroom desks in Midwich STILL block hits from specific angles and that is just stupid AF. Get rid of the invisible walls on 2 story buildings too. Why am I hitting a wall when trying to lunge forward off a ledge on Ormond? Get rid of em!

Invisible walls lead to nothing but frustration, especially on the Killer side.

  • Correct. They still haven't fixed that..

I'm a killer main, what is crouch tech? If it's a bug that people are abusing, then they should be banned for it. Did BHVR confirm it was a bug like they did with "Hug Tech"?

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3695320#Comment_3695320

It's many times more cruel that players were abusing bugs and ruining the experience for everyone else.

    Agree to disagree.

  • Uhhhhhh maybe some Dungeons & Dragons…uhhhhhhh possibly a vampire from something like Castlevania…uhhhhhhhhhhh Stranger Things giving us Vecna…uhhhhhhhhhhh that's about all I can think of that I "want"..

  • I am curious as to why there needs to be tiers in a game like this. I mean DBD is more of a party game overall. It's peoples mind sets that want to make it competitive. I agree make every Killer equally good. Bring them all up/down to what would be considered B tier and leave it at that. The fact that certain Killers have drastically different skill ceilings isn't doing BHVR any favors tbh.

Everyone will always gravitate to what is easiest, so what if you make all the Killers as equal in strength as you possibly can and the community can't decide and just goes with the power they like instead of tier BS. Then you have something. Not being able to imagine a future like this is a tell tale sign that a person's own mind is limiting their vision.

For example. Whatever you have to do to make Trapper as good as "SLIGHTLY weaker Oni" (as Pulsar put it) make it happen without changing his power too much as to not lose the identity of each Killer. It is very possible.

  • Ain't happening. That's a pretty cruel mind set honestly. It isn't like its murder..

1 … 3 4 5 6 7 … 14
