I do not think camping, or anything in-game besides actual cheating, should be bannable. But I have seen a lot of good suggestions brought forward on here to punish camping and tunneling enough to detract from its shine. Unfortunately the developers of this game have repeatedly stated that they support/promote that kind of game play and have no real interest in hearing the landslide of survivor complaints about it.
One suggested the killer get a speed reduction for staying within a certain radius of a hooked person, someone else suggested that is the killer remains in a radius of a hooked survivor they automatically teleport to another random hook. But in reality nothing is ever going to be done about it, because BHVR does not care if your experience sucks.

I'm sick and tired of the damn corn blindness.
Corn maps = camp and tunnel. I no longer care. You don't address this, Survivors no longer get to enjoy these maps.
Let the camp begin!
The corn has already been changed twice. 1st they changed the color so survivors could not be as camouflaged in it and recently that spaced it out and opened up more areas. It used to be WAY worse.
-
All you had to do was be present to get a crown and you are mad that this survivor, who was not afforded the same luxury, is annoyed? I assume they did not have super meta perks because during a "fun, casual holiday" they were expecting a different experience. And his language and tone are very nice considering, nothing to be whining on the forums about.
-
I think people should be able to DC if they want to for any reason. I never had any issues with people DCing out of matches I was in. I am a firm believer that if you do not want to be a match, in a game you paid for, you should not be forced into it.
Also, are you crazy, Hawkins is at least 3rd worst. With Midwich being the legit worst, followed by Meat Packing Plant.

It's not cheating. If you don't use light tunneling/proxy camping on occasion as killer you are gimping yourself for some false sense of fairness. First off obviously tunneling off hook and facecamping is bad. I don't support that, but to call either strategy "cheating" as a whole is naive and really shows you play a whole lot more survivor than killer.
If a myers or bubba has some basement hooks and people want to swarm that's fair game to me. If a wraith wants to bait leaving a hook and come back to go after the unhooker that's fine with me too. Those are both examples of camping, but completely alright in my eyes as in one situation the survivors put themselves in that spot and the other is them going after the person that hasn't been hooked already.
Everyone already knows that actually tunneling and camping are BAD strats and won't get you wins against good players. If you want to win you need to work down 2-3 players hook wise while pressuring gens. Tunneling one person or camping while gens pop in the background is just gonna hand you Ls. I don't know where survivors have gotten this idea that tunneling and camping are these amazing strats. They're only good in certain situations. Especially with the common BT/DS/Unbreakable combo.
Obviously I wish the devs would just get better at balancing the game so meta perks don't need to be run. I don't like always having to bring a slowdown perk or two. That means you get less creative builds and it's boring, but that's the state of the game.
I feel like this is a chicken and the egg type argument. Survivors bring DS/BT/Unbreakable because the camp/tunnel/slug is so outrageously rampant. I think all survivors would rather run perks that are more varied, interesting and fun but are backed into a corner because they are tunneled out of every match. And if tunneling was not working well it would not be an every/every other match situation. I also see people in here screaming about hook suicides now that DC is not on the table. Well, I suicided out of a Wraith match today because he had tunneled every hook and I was not gonna bother with that. Bad killer behavior is what begates toxic survivor responses, you want better, play better.

Last night I was being facecamped by a leatherface, team saved me and we all made it to exit. If you give up in this game its because you arent really into PVP
LOL
And that was a terrible Leatherface, if even face camping he couldn't secure 1 kill. Ouch for that guy.

I main Claudette, although self-care is not in my build, and generally don't have much issue with other Clauds. David's on the other hand are frequently kinda potato. Especially a No Mither David. All in all though every character has people that play them amazing and/or potato. I am probably overly altruistic, I joke a lot that altruism kills 100% of the time.
I have seen other survivors who dislike Claudette go out of there way to lead the killer to me and the like. But that is not on my for playing this character, that is on them for being hateful jerks. If a fellow survivor works with the killer hook me, I just suicide out and head on tot he next match, no one needs that crap.

yo slug fests are fine. I don't see how its unfair. Its actually interesting to see the psychology of players, whether they are bold and altruistic enough to save their team mates. You are basically suggesting that if they do all gens its game over, they deserve to leave... its not. They still have to get the gate open and possibly decide whether rescue their friend. That's how the game is played. My good ettiquite is not tunnelling and camping. As far as killing everyone end game, that's part of it.
Its not toxic, 90% of my victims tell me they had fun. I had one slugged and one trying to save in end game collapse and the end game entity came up n devoured them both. They both loved it and the other players said it was the most romantic camping they ever saw.
By playing end games we make their game intense and exciting. Not boring, oh I got all gens done now I escaped unchallenged... this is a horror game and most survivors want to be challenged
I see this fantasy written in here a lot by killer mains that they have encountered tons of survivors that agree with and appreciate there terrible game play. I have played this game for years. I have been thousands of matches and can tell you with 100% certainty that "most" survivors, as you put it, do not enjoy the "challenge" (or lack there of) of everyone on there team being slugged for your amusement.

Ok Mr.Salty… but having an end game build like BW and NOED then one hitting you is doing something... it takes a perk slot to do that. I actually like having multiple survivors in end game collapse and NOED them then leaving slugs, hoipefully so I can watch the entity come out of the ground and f up two at once... its not like you couldn't have done some hex totems instead of rushing gens. The fault you get one hit here is your own bro.
Your calling the OP salty and then describe how much you enjoy completely toxic game play. He and anyone else who encounters the slug-fest you are apparently proud of would have every right to be very salty. This along with every other person whining "Camp and tunnel is a strategy" are just ridiculous. In all things there is a basic social order. This is no different, I can't just walk down the sidewalk spitting in peoples' faces. Because society dictates that that is not a good idea. Expecting people to approach there fellow players with an ounce of respect is not unreasonable.
And everyone busting this guys NoEd comment, his post is about people playing in a toxic manner, not the intricacies of who is responsible for totems. I am sure after 3k hours he is well aware that totems are a good way to counter NoEd.
-
The devs of this game care so little about the cacophony of voices sick of tunneling, that they introduced pro-tunnel killer DLCs back to back. So do not assume anything will ever be "done" about tunneling. I would encourage you to at least mini-report at the end of each match, just to get your voice and view heard. Also, click the "rate the match" bubble. With enough feedback maybe change will roll down the pipe, but I sincerely doubt it. The report system as far as I have seen does nothing and goes nowhere but hope springs eternal, right? DbD already peaked and is winding down, a bummer because it used to be a lot of fun.

You act like every game is against a scummy tunneler, they exist sure, i only see them 1 out of 10 games. And by the way today PH population already went down at least for me so yeah rush then try again.
Lol, I do not remember the last match where there was no tunneling. It is every match, every day and every killer. The only time I do not see a bunch of hot tunneling is a meme match where the killer is just farming and joking around, about 1 in 50.
To OP, I could not agree more with literally everything you said.
Also "just do gens" is no excuse for accepting hard camp and tunnels every single match. Just today got a camping Bubba and guess what he 3k'd even though we followed the "just do gens" advice to a tee. But because we had to gen rush due to the hot camps, we missed 2 totems and bam, here comes the NoEd. So I am tired of every post saying, "Ignore crappy killer play-style, by doing gens". Maybe there should just be more in place to address the bad game play.
-
Welcome to Claudette's world. I have had more crappy run ins with people, both killer and survivor and the end game excuse is, "Well, you were playing Claudette." It is pretty lame.

So unfortunately for you, you missed the glory days. I just assume the rest of us are hanging on hoping that it circles back around to good, but slowly accepting the fact that it is gonna spiral down to gone like most video games. By then hopefully there is some new game that is on the come up.

THis is due to the DC penalty.
Prior, survivors would simply DC to killers they didn't like etc, now they just die on hook when caught.
Same problem, new method.
And is a waste of everyone's time, thanks DC ban.

Every match I have had so far in both the PTB and today has just been a tunnel-fest. Every hook, every cage. This killer was built for toxic play. Like Dr, the best defense I see so far is just stay away from him. Urban Evasion Blendette running Spine Chill.

-
I can't pick just one because it is situational, so A or B. I always try to locate hatch, but if the doors spawn close together and/or it is a fast moving killer like Spirit, Nurse or Billy I will just do totems and chests for points, or if those are all done I run in a circle in the basement for basement time points. If it is a slower killer and the doors are a good distance I will try to open a door and head out.

No, it's not a coincidence.
No one runs Calm Spirit, it's a trash perk except for usage against Doctor. =]
It also blocks you from screaming with Iron Maiden and you don't disturb crows, so it is decent stealth. Used to run it a lot but with the tunnel being so rampant I had to trade for Kindred or BT.

Well then you should stick to single player games. Where you can't ruin others playing experience
Playing with other people online has some rules. Rules that you signed when you purchased the game btw
As I have stated many times, I have been in a boat load of matches where people DCd, and it DID NOT RUIN my game. I think this is a weak excuse for forcing people to play matches they do not want to be in. This is a game and if players should be free to decide for themselves if they are enjoying it and if they want to participate. I have zero issue with someone DCing out of a match I am in, including the killer. Someone wants to go, feel free, I will either keep playing or move on to the next match. It is not a big deal at all to me, or problematic to my day.

Without the DC penalty people would just quit out of games vs killers they didn't like/ didn't want to learn.
You can see the ramification of the old punishment-less DC system as very few people know how to play against legion as if you played him like I did(I get a lot of legion dailies for some reason) at the time there was a near guarantee of one or DCers ever game even before the first hook.
TLDR: Survivor's abused the old system to not play against killers they don't like even if said killer is under powered(Which legion was at the time).
You don't need to explain this to me I have played for 3 years and am well aware of how things were pre-DC penalty. I do not think people should be forced into playing matches they do not want to be in. I have been in probably hundreds of matches where someone DCd for any number of reasons, and I do not care. They are not ruining my game. Sometimes I agreed with there decision, sometimes I had no idea why they left. At then end of the day players who paid to play this game should not be trapped in unfun matches they don't want to be in, making people suicide just wastes everyone's time. DC was a faster, cleaner way to just leave and move on to the next match if that is what you want to do.

It used to be that way but survivors abused it so much the penalty had to be added in.
It had reached the point that there was at least one leaver nearly ever single game before its implementation was announced.
Well, if DC was getting out of control, maybe the devs should have tried to address why the game had gotten so bad every match people would rather take zero points and waste their time than stay and play. They are punishing the wrong people.

Yea okey, dont believe me. Like i said, a waste of time to discuss with this community ^^
I believe you! I am a red rank survivor and although face camping in red ranks is pretty rare, I see proxy camping and tunneling in every single match. I have not escaped a match in 2 days, probably 20 matches and have not deranked because I am pipping just no escaping. Generally because at least the first 2 survs hooked are tunneled out of the game w/ 5k and then me and the other guy spend 15-20 min workng on gens at a snails pace because we do not want to be tunneled out of the game. If there are too many gens to do, it becomes who can hide better and make it a hatch race. I wish I could DC myself back to rank 10 or higher where this kind of hard, sweaty behavior was not nearly as common. But unfortunately I am just stuck playing games until I am pissed enough to turn it off for the night. Hope springs eternal I guess though, because I will turn it on the next day all hopeful that I will have at least 1 good match. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
-
I hate pig, maybe 2nd to Legion. But yeah I would not call this a well liked killer. I would rather be in a match with literally 3/4 of the other killers over her. So it would not make me less toxic if you came in with a pig. Trapper, Clown, Demogorgon yeah I see that. Pig is a big nah dawg from me.
-
Inner Strength for me too, I do a lot of totems anyway in the interest of heading off NoEd and the heal is was faster and does not attract Nurses Calling. So seems like a win/win.
-
I gotta be honest here, you would have to be some kind of DbD savant to get to rank 8 or Rank 5 in 20 hours. That is 60 pips from 20 to 8, that is 3 pips an hour, and you pretty much can play 3-4 rounds an hour. So you would have had to pip nearly every single match to clear this number and more for the survivor. As a brand new player. I am VERY sceptical that this happened, this way.
Ranking is crap though, especially because it is so much easier for a survivor to pip over a killer. So you get a big difference in ability in the same "ranks". A rank 4 survivor may very well be on par with a rank 10 killer. I think it either needs to be harder for survs to pip or easier for killers so the ranks actually meant something.
-
I generally suicide out of Legion matches because I can not stand this killer. So me or people like me may be throwing off your chart because we chose to leave, but it counts as a kill for the Legion.
-
I have no issue with what these survivors did, one of them did take a penalty to do that. If you can't legitimately down and hook 4 people maybe you just don't get your challenge done that round. Getting crappy in the last 5 minutes to accomplish your goal backfired, and I do not blame them one bit.
-
I think every one of the reasons you listed is fine. I would not be upset if any of my team mates left for any of those reasons, especially because I would not know most of them. But I do not think people should be forced to play matches they do not want to be in, for any reason. Everyone here paid to play and if they don't want to be in a match, for any reason, they should be (penalty) free to go. Punishing people for leaving is ludicrous. I have been in lots of matches where people left and I never did know why. I have been in matches where people DC'd and I could see why and whole-heartedly agreed with there decision. But it has never "ruined my game". I see on here a lot that if you DC you ruined your teams' game, not mine, I could not care less. There are very valid in-game reasons to leave and I don't mind players using DC as an option when they feel the line has been crossed.

Ok started tracking stats on my games, looking to see if I am being unreasonable on my anger as a killer. This is 8 games, but they're par for the course of what I normally get and I will keep tracking.
I hover in the rank 6 to rank 7 for this test. 9 out of 32 survivors i faced were in purple or green, so 73% of the survivors are a full ranking tier above me. 13 survivors were rank 1 or 2, having me face the highest ranked players 40% of the time.
I got 22 kills out of 32 survivors, making my kill rate 69%. Sounds good right? I depipped or got brutal 5 out of 8 games, which means 63% of the time I got a draw or loss.
There lies the biggest frustration for me. The majority of the time, I am playing significantly higher ranked players, averaging 3 kills per match, and the majority of the time, I don't get rewarded.
Ds was used by 45% of survivors. Adrenaline was used 43%. Spine chill 34%. Dead hard 25%.
Overall, my anger isn't justified. The average rank is 3.7 to my average rank of 6.9. Meta perks are used less than half of the time, but the numbers might be skewed by the tomes. Hands down the biggest frustration is not ranking up, even though I am performing and facing survivors at a level higher than my ranking.
I (a survivor main) could not agree more. It is too hard to pip as killer and/or too easy to pip as a survivor. I feel like in general rank 4 survivors are only talent-wise on par with an 8-9 killer. Because they are able to pip up so much faster. I think the pip system should be either easier for killers to pip or harder for survivors so it is more accurate as far as ability.

@Whut said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/159284/facecamping-killers-still-get-too-many-rewards
You have DS, Borrowed time already and a new meta perk is incoming. Im not entirely sure why you are complaining about face campers, because you very rarely see them anyway.
I hear people in this forum say this a lot, "Face camping is rare." Umm, it is not. I play survivor everyday with a few killer matches every couple days for dailies and some lower key matches. Every day I encounter a face camper at least once or twice, every single day. And with the volume of complaints I see on these forums it is not the unicorn some people want to make it out to be.
I am sure people will say, well this killer got low points and only 1k so his camping only hurt him in the long run. But it also hurt the poor guy on the hook who just wanted to play a match and most definitely walked away with no points and a depip.
OP is right more should be done to discourage this kind of play in a match. Because clearly, "just do all the gens" is not detrimental enough to change the facecamp culture.
-
If they would lift this BS DC penalty crap I would take this option in a second. People DC because of bullshit gameplay and I support people's right to leave and not be forced into matches with douche nozzles. So yes, lets do this.
-
No, suiciding on hook is not bannable, nor will it ever be. So you do you. I will say even if my 1st impulse is to head out, I generally scout it out and do a gen or totem and see how it is gonna go. I hate Legion, so it does not take much for me to leave a Legion match but I do rack up a few points and assess how it is going before I leave. But yeah it is fine, you do not have to play with anyone you don't want to. I 100% think DC should be the option, but since that has been taken away, death on hook is almost as good. I have zero issues with people on my team or even the killer deciding a match isn't for them and heading out.
-
I agree that Doctor is OP. And I say that from playing him, not against. I am not a killer main, I am a rank 16 killer but have zero problem winning matches with this killer. I can barely get a hook with Nurse, Billy or Leatherface (I am the worst with chainsaws). But just hook after hook with MD here. And as you all know even though I am rank 16, my survivors are almost always a mixed bag of ranks below mine all the way to red.
As a survivor I think that is they just took out the having to "snap out of it" it would be a fairly good change. It is beyond frustrating that when he hit his big zap you are incapacitated until you crouch and get un-crazy. So no heals, unhooks, gens nothing while you crouch in the corner screaming your location.
Doctor also already has built in aura and whispers, before he even straps on the perks. It is too many things for one killer.

Or after the 3rd/4th time of being slugged in a match give a forfeit option.
Another idea would be that the option doesn't show unless there is a 2nd survivor slugged, to reduce killers trying to just slug everyone for an easy 4k.
-
@whammigobambam said:
Who wants to lay on the ground and bleed out all match without earning anything? I'm pushing a button as a slug within the game and getting nothing in return? The killer just returns to slug me as I get off the ground. I can't fight back because everyone else is slugged too. Please, this is not fun.
What if it was just like the hook and you could hasten the timer with 3 "tries" but have the 4% chance it pops you up instead. Then you can die faster if you want, maybe get up, or just lay there if you think someone might come. Killers may also be less likely to leave you slugged if you can maybe get yourself up fairly fast.
-
Meat Packing Plant is my least favorite map for either side. I like to play trapper as killer and there is no good place for a trap there. As survivor I am not a huge fan of any of the indoor maps but like this one the least, I get turned around there easily and have trouble keeping track of anything like which gens are done, where doors are etc.
-
I agree, if all gens are done and the killer hasn't killed anyone, it is understandable that he guard the last guy.
-
Yes, the DC penalty system sucks and penalizes everyone, even though it was meant to punish a specific group. So bad internet, sometimes wonky DbD server, power outage etc, etc, etc, BAM DC penalty.

Many, many games have political messages in them, even if you think they don't.
That said, it would be better to make a statement as a company and donate directly/match employee donations rather than through offering a cosmetic item. There's paperwork involved in establishing a clear line between the purchase of the cosmetic and the money going to the charity stated. Often a charity has to check who is advertising for them and how it will reflect upon them, the cosmetic has to be designed... it takes time to set up such a thing.
And given Dead by Daylight is a game focused on hunting and killing people / being hunted and trying to escape, it's probably not the best place to insert such statements.
I think the OP's heart is completely in the right place. And if they did something that generated proceeds for a charity that would be great. But until you pointed out the obvious I had not thought about the message being sent that if you give surviviors BLM t-shirts or something then hunt and kill them, it is definitely the wrong way to go. So you are right an in-game cosmetic would be in poor taste.

This was SUPER tame. If this is the worst salt you get you must play fairly decent. Or maybe PC is just a way bigger dumpster fire than console.

They should at least stop insulting us by calling it "insta-heal", should be "in a little bit, when I get around to it heals". I would rather it go back to the way it used to be, even if they reduced its frequency in the bloodwebs.

It's so obvious the devs only care about making this game as easy and accessible to survivors as possible, while leaving killer in an unfun and unplayable state.
Every change for a year has been pro-killer to balance complaints about SWF, making solo survivor very difficult. From the survivor side I will say the devs could not care less about the survivor experience. I think they feel that if you have your friends and comms you have all you need, so all other changes should be positive for killers I.E: Nerf toolboxes, med kits, BNP, insta-heal, sabotage, safe pallets, vaults, corn changes, opening up spaces, hooks closer together, maps smaller, etc, etc, etc. So the solo folks, 50% of the survivor base can just go suck it I guess.
-
I would rather be hooked than slugged every time, no exceptions. But I will admit that I do slug people occasionally because I refuse to tunnel people, so if I go to hit an offhooker and accidently get the fresh offhook, I will slug that guy so someone else can come get them off the ground. So I can not say across the board, never slug, ever. There are times it is beneficial, even understandable. Myers and Oni are one shot for a short time, why not get 2 before it runs out. But just slugging every player until you can leisurely hook everyone is unacceptable, slugging the last guy and following him around for several minutes until he bleeds out is unacceptable. So for slugging I would say you just have to chose where the line is, because no play styles are all good or all bad, just have to chose your moments I guess.
-
I pretty much main Claudette and have run into folks like the OP here and other survivors like the OP. "Team mates who purposely point you out to the killer, or make noise by you to draw the killer" then in post chat proudly admit you were targeted for playing Claudette. I will also say I save those DCs for just such a special occasion.
On the other hand as a killer I am more likely to stick with a chase with a Claudette because if I don't I may not see them again; they are harder to spot. I do not tunnel anyone, so they don't have to worry about that from me.
