  • I also think it's unlikely it will ever come, but I'm curious, how does cross-progression work as of now? Do you at least get shard refunds for duplicate characters and skins?

  • I still have to play as Yuchi, Haddie and Vittorio (Renato too, but I didn't buy the SM chapter) so you might be lucky yet.

Edit: Whether we play in the same MMR or not and even get matched remains to be seen, but I don't know, it's still possible, I guess.

Edit (again): This collage looks cool, in fact. I hope you are able to get to every remaining survivor

  • Same. I've been playing a few games and it didn't work. Waste of time, but we can still do other challenges till they fix it.

  • It may be summer, people having a lot of free time and being able to form squads, but yeah, since July it's been hell playing as killer.

Edit: Also, endurance being meta again and making it so every survivor has to be hit three times to down them. Right now it's pretty survivor-sided. Tbh I'm not playing as much as I used to because it's so tiring, annoying and frustrating. I was eager to play as Alien but I'm not buying it for now since what's the point? Being bullied over and over again by overpowered survivors?

It's obviously a rant, I will eventually keep playing, but Jesus Christ, I hope they fix it soon.

Some indoor maps are actually among my favorites. And honestly, playing m1 killers on some indoor maps feels like playing them should always feel, specially the stealth ones. People complain a lot about holding W, but then they complain about the maps where this tactics are actually harder to perform. On them not only you can't see where the killer is coming from when you hear the terror radius, but the gens are also mostly on unsafe locations where you can be ambushed or at least won't have a lot of space to run away once the killer approaches. The only exception to this is RPD, because up to 3 gens there might spawn on extremely open and safe areas, but some of the others are actually on pretty good places to ambush survivors.

Indoor maps have downsides? Sure, but they are highly exaggerated by players quite often:

"You can't use the crows to track survivors": You can't see when they fly away, but you might still notice crows returning to their places after being disturbed by survivors, which also helps you to track. It's important to remember that is way harder to avoid disturbing crows while running on thight rooms and corridors, so they will be disturbed more often, which means Spies from the Shadows is actually worth using on some of these maps. Either way, crows are usually only the last resort for tracking a survivor when you're not getting info from any other source. The impact of not seeing them when they fly is quite small, and compensated by the fact that survivors can't see you approaching either.

"You can't see scratch marks": actually you can, and they are as useful as ever. Sure, you can't see them across the entire map, but that is not really needed on every map, specially considering the advantages this map already provides you. Additionally, aura-revealing perks are more relevant indoors.

"Some killer powers don't work well there": this is the most notable and most repeated argument against indoor maps. But you see, there are 37 killers (Xenomorph included). 5 of them have powers that are harder to use in indoors but can still work around it if the player is skilled (Trapper, Nurse, Cannibal, Oni and Blight) and 6 of them are actually put at a disavantage in indoor maps (Hilbilly, Huntress, Deathslinger, Singularity and Cenobite, Trickster). Meanwhile, All the other 26 killers actually benefit from it, specially 8 of them: Wraith, Myers, Hag, Pig, Ghostface, Sadako, Xenomorph and Knight. Just like indoor maps work against projectile powers, outdoor maps often work against stealth powers, and indoor maps is where stealth killers and builds thrive. Many of the killers who are weaker in indoor maps can actually benefit from them by using stealth perks and add-ons, sometimes even Huntress.

So, even though there's quite a few killers whose powers don't match well with indoor maps, there are far more killers who get benefits from indoor maps, specially stealth killers, who are among the weakest in the game (reworked Sadako being an exception right now, of course). Meanwhile, survivors actually have more space to try to counter the NURSE in these maps, as the best way to counter her is to get out of her line of sight so she doesn't know exactly where you are.

Yeah, that's how I feel, but it's true my killer MMR is at most average, so I guess in higher MMR those things can be quite decisive, so I understand why people don't like them. It sure is good to see more people who loves indoor maps.

  • Aside from being 'assymetrical multiplayer horror survival ' games, they're not very similar. I do have to say, though, that as much as I like TCM, if you're playing alone as a killer and the others are playing in a group, you might as well leave the lobby, since it will become quite boring.

  • I can't tell, I enjoy DbD quite a lot. Discovering the game and the maps the first time was amazing. I specially have good memories of playing in Lery's. It is a great game, and some members of this community are the best. I really enjoy matches in which I don't escape but at leats I get to make a successfull risky save which allows my team to survive.

  • I am totally going to buy it day one. I had so much fun in the PTB and I'm eager to play as and against him. I'm usually terrible at aiming with pretty much any killer, and while Alien's tail thrust seems to have an acceptable hitbox, I'm sure I'll have lots of problems with it, which makes me want to play as him even more. I want to master it.

  • Pretty interesting video to watch, thank you. They are indeed unbalanced, but again, that's up to the dev teams to tweak them. I actually like Garden of Joy, it's a fun map. But yeah, the Game and Badham, I hate them.

  • I always have fun when playing killer in indoors maps precisely because of those reasons, it feels like anything can happen, but of course I understand that diverse MMR's might go differently.

I'm sad we don't have more indoors maps and I wish there could be a way to solve those issues, but well... It is what it is. Thanks for your insight, @Archol123 , it really has been interesting to read you. Let's see if in the future they can bring more variety to outdoors maps while still allowing for being able to track survivors by crows flying away and scratchmarks.

  • So you think there is actually no way indoors maps could be fun to play in anyway? I mean, I understand your reasoning, but pallets just need tweaking, crows can be replaced by rats (not sure if that's possible and they wouldn't work exactly the same because you wouldn't see them flying in the distance but you could actually see them scattering away or could work with spies from the shadows), loss of tracking scratchmarks in the distance is unevitable, but if the map is well thought and designed, it wouldn't really affect the game that much in every circumstance (when in narrow or enclosed spaces, yeah, but there would be other instances in which you are not), narrow espaces could be given windows (only they would have to give them a different appearance than just plain windows) to jump from or simply adjust the space so it is not so narrow that you cannot move one inch for 10 meters...

What I try to imply is that, yeah, I think all your reasoning is perfectly valid and spot-on, but I think it's not something that is impossible to work around. Breaking LoS is an important part of the gameplay too, so I think that's when variety comes in play, and it would also encourage usage of different strategies and builds for both killers and survivors.

But I do understand now that it would be maybe a massive amount of work with a high risky of being criticized so not worth the effort.

PD: I just feel that most outdoors maps are just skins and that indoors ones are which bring variety and hence why I feel them as something fresh, but obviously that's just one opinion, and I'm not precisely good at the game.

  • So after reading through all of it, I feel like most of the complaints come from pallet spawning, which imo should be easily solved by the devs tweaking those maps, which I think they did state they were going to do (not specifically indoors maps but maps in general).

I still think indoors maps are more unique and fun than outdoors ones, and I would really love to see them explore more risky designs. I have a few designs of my own which I think could be actually functional and fun, including

·An abandoned building with several apartments, a lab area, some narrow and dim lighted corridors and an outdoors garden like area in a corner, from a chapter which included The MadMan, a sort of Dr Jekyl / Mr Hyde killer.

·A small shanty town area with several indoors locations in the shape of abandoned shops and small apartments, connected by narrow alleys and some wider areas like a plaza with a fountain, from a chapter which included The Enforcer, a crooked ex-police officer who used to take part in police brutality.

·A cathedral in ruins, with an inner cloister, the main chapel with two floors (a bit like the main hall from RPD) and a crypt, from a chapter which included The Possessed, a young boy who could bring out the demon possessing him to attack survivors.

·A castle, again, in ruins, with a courtyard, the court room, a stable, the dungeon and a demolished tower, from a chapter which included the Vampire.

And then you could have, as I said, things like a Shipyard, a Museum, you write it. I don't know, I just think this game is lacking variety in maps. And I do think it could be extremely fun to explore diverse ways of bringing some indoors map which wouldn't just be mazes with all narrow corridors and small, cluttered rooms.

You could have the Nostromo, for instance. How cool would it have been to have an actual, dark spaceship?

  • @gnehehe said:

I hate them, both as survivor (hard to plan paths, locate pallets & gen, terrible vs stealthy killers) and as killer (crows are usless, navigation is painful as billy, no trickshot as huntress, ...)

Wow, I posted it yesterday an hour or so before going to sleep and I honestly thought this topic would be left unanswered, but so many answers. I overslept a bit and I have to go to work in a bit, but I'll answer what I can and read the rest later.

On the above poster, I think that's 'bad' design as in designing an indoors maps doesn't actually have to be always narrow hallways. It's true if talking about the Nostromo there wouldn't be much space left for designing while staying faithful, but you can always create a museum gallery, a lab with spacious rooms, a priory with an inner cloister and more like that.

Edit: I somehow forgot about Midwich, but I really love that map too and I think it has good design to play as billy and huntress (and anyone else).

Edit 2: @Archol123 , true about crows in indoor maps, but I don't think it would take much to include rats which could act the same way as crows. Also, about mobility and knowing where someone is but being unable to move swiftly to them, that's bad desing, I think. You coud have destroyed walls and ceiling to create pathways to make it more 'navigateable'. Most other issues you mention (pallets, windows, even Midwich's corridor) could be solved by tweaking them a bit with a better design, although I wouldn't really change them that much. Of course I'm still biased because I usually have so much fun when playing on Midwich, RPD and Lery, either as killer or survivor.

  • Good luck playing TCM. The game is fun, but it will be dead soon unless they do something about people dodging lobbies whenever they can't play as the character they want and their horrible matchmaking system. Also of note, killers on comms in that game. You're pretty much dead.

  • It does look awesome, but since you can't really hear its footstomps it looks like a missed opportunity. Still loving the DLC, though, and I can't wait for August the 29th to come already.

  • I didn't read the whole topic, but from my view it's always the survivor's fault. 8 out of 10 of my games as survivor, my teammates are bricks who always throw the game one way or another. 1 out of those games it's me who throws the game and the remaining other one is one teammate who loops the killer for several gens and gets the game.

I can't express how tired and annoyed I am at my fellow survivors. It really makes me want to quit playing the game but I know I will not because there's no other game like DbD.

And as for killer, I used to have pretty decent matches in which I could win by working it hard but as of last month, I'm getting stomped every other game. And yeah, on the rare occassion I tunnel it's because of a survivor trying to abuse basekit BT for bodyblocking and gets what they were coming for, just to whine and be toxic about it later.

Sure, there are a bunch of overly abusive killers out there, but most of the times if my teammates did something even remotely intelligent we could stand a chance.

Edit: Definitely it's survivors who're taking the fun out of this game.

  • I'll try again and let you know. Thanks for the quick response! :)

Edited: After going through the same challenge twice (first match I couldn't even finish the first gen lol) I have to say it did count it. Somehow it didn't the first time I tried it, though, and I swear I finished repairing two different gens. So maybe it actually requires a bit more repairing than just repairing the last percentage?

  • @ARTRA said:

In Spain its like (at least to me) early morning survivors between 25% and 50% (9:00- 13:00 more or less).

After that usually 100% killer all day long.

Funny. For me it's usually 100% survivor pretty much all day until late evening.

  • Typically it's survivors who pretend they can do anything with the killer who later gets salty. At least in my experience. Like, solo players usually don't say anything and just move on, nice squads usually play 'fairly' and will say gg and nice things when finishing the game. But survivors who want to 'bully' the killer and can't are actually the most toxic ones. Don't mind them.

  • Well, as I said, I wasn't there to play it so I don't think my opinion has the same value as those of you who played them. I'm not saying the maps look bad now or that the design team did bad. I just have this feeling that while now each map is pretty unique, they seem to feel smaller, way too bright and colourful. Watching the videos from the game back when it was released I feel that it felt as if characters were actually lost in a place where they felt small, they had this eerie atmosphere where it feels more scary to be playing. I really love how watching through the night in McMillan Estate would make the far-off parts of the map blurry, how lights were actually impactful and the moonlight was so beautiful. Haddonfield was completely different from what it is now but I've heard it was massive and unbalanced, so I get why it was redone.

Edited: I do realize old visuals had less clutter and were more empty, but I do feel as if they were more detailed somehow.

  • Tienes un subforo en español en el que quizá tengas más suerte. Yo juego en pc y suelo jugar solo o killer. Te paso mi nombre por privado si quieres que probemos algún día pero ya te digo que no suelo jugar mucho en party.

  • It could be a challenge or ritual, but I don't think so given his attitude in the chat. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I do thank you people for sharing your thoughts. In regards to survivor's builds, I don't know if they had Boil Over, I didn't check. I certainly didn't, but it's not like we were far from hooks. The killer didn't even try to grab one of us once. He could be roleplaying a no hooks game. I've seen some videos of builds that focus on slugging, but even then, this people usually move around the map doing something instead of just stay close to downed survivors.

I guess you could say that's on us for trying to help our teammates instead of focusing on doing gens. And we did. Still feels like an awful behaviour. By the end we were 3 remaining survivors (all gens done, though) who tried to rescued one another before escaping and thus ended up crawling with different bleed out progress.

  • @Ranch_Jello said:

I had 2 survivors hide in RPD for 45 minutes, when I found them I slugged them both. One bled out and the other I purposely waited on top of them constantly throwing gas bottles (I was clown) until they had almost bled out then I morid him. He DCd and proceeded to message me telling me how im going to get banned for holding the game hostage.

Well, that's certainly a bad move on their part. Survivors hiding and doing nothing is one of the worst things can happen too. Shows little respect for other's time, and there's no fun to be had in just hiding forever, so I would say you response was adequate.

Fortunately I haven't had survivors like that in a looooong time. Truth be told, though, I have been being stomped on as a killer for a few weeks anyway. I'm guessing MMR is doing a great job (sarcasm) or summer break has seen an increasing amount of good players or friends playing together which results in more difficult, sweaty matches.

  • Oh, I see. Thank you for replying.

  • As far as I know, nothing of the sorts happened. It could still have been the issue, but even then, once all of us were in the ground, why not hook us? Still, we never got hooked even once. They didn't even grab any of us, I mean. I understand having a rough time as a killer, but then again, I wouldn't take my frustration on the next guys.

    Ty for replying, anyway :)

  • I'm pretty sure I'll buy it day 1 for sure. I'm still downloading the PTB, though :)

  • Oh! Nice! Ty so much! I tried to google it and got nothing, though, so thanks a lot for sharing! <3

  • Wait. Is there a new trailer or something? Is 19/10 release date then? I understand and hope it's for the best, but the delay will be tough to overcome.

  • So it may stay more than a week if there are enough players, huh? That's good to know. So we're expecting this new chapter somewhat around August the 29th, is that right? Damn. Well, it's good anyway, I'm eager to see how he plays. Alien might be my favorite horror franchise of all times and I've always liked Xenomorphs. I do know it could still be dissapointing, even if it's only because of being so hyped up, but still.

I'm not sure I will still have fingers after this long wait haha

    Ty people <3

  • Ty, guys! So if I'm not mistaken the PTB lasts for 15 days after which the chapter is released? Or is there one week after closing the PTB?

how would you know you like the killer before buying it? there's no way in game to try them out anymore.

and it's not like people don't get the wrong impression from just watching videos and stuff. you gotta play the character to really know.

and it does take that much time

That's why at most, I think there should be free weekends from time to time, rotating the killer's available to try them out. Obviously this would leave licensed killers out of the action, but it could work. And why you make a valid point, I think there's enough info you can gather by playing against killers, watching vids and asking people to decide your preferences. It may not exactly the same as playing them for yourself but I think it can give you the necessary info to at least filter them.

  • I disagree. There's no reason to lower the killer's shard price when you have plenty with the base game and the base game is quite cheap now a days. You could always buy those killers you like first, it doesn't take that much time if you enjoy the game. If you don't enjoy the game as much as to put some hundred hours in it then why bother trying to get all characters?

New players could maybe have some kind of extra XP or Shards gain boost for a number of trials or something. Or maybe they could give every now and then a weekend-long free access to one killer, so people can get to play as different characters and decide whether they like them or not. But that's it.

DLC is not really expensive and they need to make profit, so I don't see why they would lower the shards requirement.

  • This was my Alien design back in the day. I think it could be cool but I think it can be made differently while still being faithful to the films, so I'm pretty excited. I do think my desing is kind of nice, though.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/375690/fanmade-the-xenomorph-chapter#latest

  • Tbh I never thought Trickster could be inspired by or related to We need to talk about Kevin, but now that you mention it, it's pretty clear. In all fairness, I haven't played much with Trickster yet and all I've read about him is his basic background (which is enough to see the relation).

Not entirely sold on the Artist, though. I saw Hitchcock's movie as a kid, almost 20 years ago, so I may not remember it very well, but the feeling I got from that movie hardly resembles the Artist's power imo, though I can understand why you think of it as an inspiration. I mean, yeah, they're birds, but... Nah, I can't feel it.

I haven't watched most other films you mention, so I can't comment on those. Skull Merchant does give some Predator vibes, while Singularity is much farther off from Alien imo.

What do you think about Hag, Huntress or Deathslinger? Is there any horror movies you think might draw inspiration from?

  • I play and enjoy mostly every killer. There are killers I don't really like (Ghost Face), I don't enjoy as much as others (Hag, Bubba), or can be extremely frustrating sometimes (Pig, Oni, Blight). The only killers I don't own are The Skull Merchant and Demogorgon.

  • Sounds pretty cool, I must say. I would play it.

  • This community is full of sore winners or losers. I just can't keep track of the times people have whined about something, insulted or mocked me. The sad thing is that most likely they will behave in a similar way irl.

  • You definitely sold it to me with your concept. I can see how much thought and passion you put into it.

    in MOVED Comment by Z0mbiv0r
  • I though this was about Resident Evil: Zero, but was gladly surprise. Now I have to go and watch that anime. Very cool concept, by the way. Great work!

    in MOVED Comment by Z0mbiv0r
  • There's always going to be this kind of players, sadly. And so far I don't think there's none to be done aside from reporting them. It would be nice to be able to do something in match to prevent it but I can't think of a way to do it. If I'm playing as a killer and I see a behaviour I don't like on survivor's side (like in your case, or survivors who just hide and leave their teammates to die) I will most likely try to kill the 'bad' survivors and let the other survies escape. And I have seen a few other killers do the same. So that's something. But yeah, it sucks when this happens. At least for me, it doesn't happen too often.

  • I don't really get how it should matter in any way. Sure, representation and such, but I think that having to specify sexual orientation does in fact goes in detriment of it rather than helping. You have to love a character regardless of its sexual orientation. Would it matter if an apparently beloved character such as Feng Min was revealed to be homosexual / heterosexual / bisexual / whatever? It's like if they like rock music or classical music, it doesn't make them any more or any less of a person.

  • I can confirm that this challenge is actually 'Use the invitation to break a pallet 3 times'. I played a match as kiler in which I used it once to break a pallet and it counted, several times to endure stuns and once or twice to inflict exposed and the challenge remained as unaccomplished. Someone on the forums said something about breaking 3 pallets, I just did it and it worked.

  • I can confirm. Just played a match as killer and use the invitation to break a pallet 3 times and I got the challenge done.

  • So basically the problem is the description of the challenge does not relate to the actual challenge, and instead of being 'While in chase, activate any of the invitation's effect once' should be 'While in chase, use an invitation to destroy a pallet 3 times'? I'll try that next chance I have. This would make sense, since I do remember using it to destroy a pallet first and that counted, and then I used it (not willingly) to endure any stun and (willingly) to make a survivor suffer from the Exposed status effect, and they did not count towards the challenge.

  • Same. I completed it now, it did show up as if it had to be done 3 times, I'm quite sure I did plenty more and still it didn't go up the first one.
