As it turns out, "move fast" has more to learn and do than "press button and deploy drone". Who'da thunk it?
Probably something about locus of control, too. Powers whose effectiveness is a measure of your skill, and where the effects are controlled by the player, appeal to people far more than one where it's far more dependent on the other players misstepping.
(and obviously the actual issues with the power implementation like visibility, ######### is up with the timing on the undetectable, and 'you need to place it somewhere it's easily seen and gotten to on top of everything else because it can't get through walls despite its small area')
From how I've seen people use SM I think I've seen maybe 2-3 people actually figure her out completely while everyone else just gives up and goes "I guess I just put these next to gens?" which sure works but there's a lot more you can do with it so I don't really agree with your premise. It's like saying "hag is just putting triangles on ground" but then you watch a player like michi explaining their play and you realize the killer is so much more complex at a higher level.
Also I'm not saying wesker and blight don't take skill they take a tremendous amount of mechanical skill but what I am saying is that mechanical skill is not the only type of skill. Being able to manage macro, be predictive and have general great game sense and planning abilities is also a skill and that's what killers like Hag, Trapper, and SM test that chase killers really don't.

It’s just that set up killers (believe me I love my Trapper) don’t have enough going for them in most cases. So people are rightly worried SM will meet the same fate. People for years have been calling for Trapper to be buffed by just giving him all his traps, Freddy’s Snares are useless now, only Hag has true viability but she can be defeated by a flashlight.
If they just addressed issues with the trap killers I feel like SM could be more well regarded.
I mean that's the duality right? You can be Hag near the top or Trapper near the bottom.
Right now SM unfortunately is admittedly closer to Trapper but they don't have to stay that way, I think if they buff her stealth and let her setup drones faster so she feels more fluid along with a few add-on adjustments because dear lord iri manuscript is an abomination she'll be a solid midpoint between Hag and Trapper.
-
It's discouraging trying to give feedback on this killer that really does have a ton of potential when it gets drowned out in a sea of mindless "omg worst killer ever not a cyborg chase killer plz delete" threads by let's face it a bunch of people that are not gonna play the killer longer than a week no matter what changes are made because it's not Wesker or Blight.
I would hope BHVR is doing thier due diligence and actually weeding out the few threads with constructive criticism and we get good changes.
-
Honestly all the people that prefer chase killers can suck it up plain and simple. We get 3-4 chase killers every year where as those of us that like set up killers haven't gotten one since hag all the way back in 2016. We can have one new setup killer 7 years later can't we?
They just need to buff SM's numbers a bit so she can do things besides 3 gen and she'll be great.
-
Yeah she's very similar to Predator in concept and I love it.
Having a radar to track survivors has been fun so far.
-
Killer I'm getting with shards and getting to p100 as a Tracker was on the short list of killers I really wanted.
Survivors I'll skip as neither appeal to me and I can live without thier perks granted bloodrush is a cool idea.
-
I have like 18k shards so I have enough for the killer which is all I want anyway.
That being said irregardless of me technically going along with what you're saying consumer side boycotts are a joke and literally never work.

Because our dear devs release perks without cool downs during last chapters and think thats okay .There is no compensation for perks without balance that are abused each match .
Because Brine is stopped by tapping a gen and NTH is countered by distortion and lockers. Seems like a skill issue.
-
Why do people make nerf threads without suggesting compensating buffs? I understand they're not necessary every time but these threads always come across as "I don't like X so they should get rid of it".
-
My best guess rn is something along the lines of one of the women mercenaries from metal gear.

The PTB for Plague's chapter was on a Wednesday.
Double checked and this is right it was March 6th 2019. So it has happened at least once before.

Okay.

We went into this with a lot of people thinking Robot/Cyborg and I was personally thinking a Machinist.
With where we are now I'm 90% sure the killer is some kind of mercenary with different tools/weapons.

Except for the 1 or 2 times it's been a Wednesday, and leaving it til 1-2 hours before isn't unheard of either
We'll either get it in just over 5 hours, or we'll know it's tomorrow.
The Wednesday ones were midchapters, the new killer PTBs have always been on Tuesday going back through 2018.
-
I also was confused about this especially because all the new killer ptbs have been on a Tuesday the past 4 years.
That being said the forged in fog teaser had the same learn more text for November 1st which was the date of the ptb. So presumably it will be Wednesday, I'm not sure why they moved it from Tuesday.

I've been saying this for like a year at this point.
We can only hope we reach the promised land one day where the game is all about chase instead of kicking gens and micromanaging their progress. I won't speak highly of old DBD very often but not being able to kick gens was a better for the game when that was a thing.
-
Given things I've recently seen I have a feeling this killer is gonna surprise everyone, I'm pretty sure it's not what anybody thinks it is.

Tell me why is it that Hex:Ruin, Pop, Thana, and now Eruption were nerfed to the point of uselessness while the longtime meta survivor perks like DH, Sprint Burst, DS, Adrenaline, Unbreakable, and Deliverance have been lightly touched at most and are still meta?
There's two fallacies here.
- You're assuming they never touch survivor perks which like MoM, DS, Self-Care, Sabo, Iron Will, OoO might have something to say about that.
- It assumes there arn't killer perks that have never been touched or has but got buffed and are still good like BBQ, STBFL, Lethal, Deadlock, Brine, NWO, DMS
-
I don't really care when it happens, I am more likely to give hatch to whoever survives longest when it happens though.
-
Boons would then be worse than hexes and hexes are already terrible. Just nerf CoH and honestly buff exponential and dark theory cuz they're trash.
-
The level of victimhood mentality in this thread is too damn high.
-
It's a safe buff and I don't think this perk rises above mediocre even with the change.
As for why now? Coding wise if all you're doing is removing a cooldown that's so much easier to do as opposed to what they probably have planned for other perks where some of thier functionality is probably changing.
-
I think it's an inelegant way of saying they don't find something entertaining or fun to go against.
I don't find those things boring per se but if I had to try to translate it it would be something like
- I don't like kinght fun to go against because his playstyle revolves around slowing the game down with AI and kicking gens
- I don't like going against scratched mirror myers because I like chase and myers revolves around jump scare hit and run
- I don't like gen regression because I don't like doing gens and those perks make me do gens more
And killers have their version of this too DH is boring or CoH is boring meaning I don't like waiting out DH or I don't have fun when spreading pressure is so ineffective because of CoH. But instead of saying all that people just call everything boring because we're all terminally online with adhd and can't focus enough to write all that out.

Are you saying that PR should be nerfed then? It is the most picked killer perk by that same logic.
I do think PR is fine, just curious to know
PR doesn't have the same kind of monopoly with a 27% pick rate but that also has to do with the nature of killer perks and the nature of survivor perks are not the same since you only want 1 exhaustion perk whereas stacking slowdowns is good.
Do I want PR nerfed? Personally yes I'd be fine with it but that's because I'd like if we got away from regression meta in general but at the same time I don't think PR is overpowered or anything and I think if you shift the general killer meta the pick rate could go down without touching it.

Ok, i will still bring SB or DH every game i dont really care.
And again, i don't doubt that you can win without exhaustion perks, but they are some of strongest perks survivors have for a reason. Of course people will want to bring one. And since they share the same cooldown you can really only bring one maybe two.
Its really not that surprising seeing those perks having that high of pickrate.
The problem is DH has a near monopoly on exhaustion perks and those are some of the strongest in the game. Going by nightlight which is only a small amount of players but we can assume it's some of the better players if they're bothering to upload their games and DH has a pickrate of 34.5% and the next highest pick exhaustion perk is lithe at only 17.2% and then SB at 13.1%. If DH was even remotely balanced the spread would not be that lopsided.
-
@BlueHorkew said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3342602#Comment_3342602
Ok, killers can also win with no slowdown, its just bad for a survivor to not bring an exhaustion perk.
If the survivor is average or below in skill level yes. Otherwise there's a ton of other loadouts you can bring that are just as effective once you get good enough at looping.
-
Nurse, Blight, Spirit, Artist are probably the only ones that could pull it off consistently but for everyone else you need some form of slowdown. It doesn't even need to be gen slowdown even something like sloppy to slow down heals or devour paired with thrill or undying that's a "you need to take care of this or you're gonna die" type thing.
If you just do something like franklins/BBQ/discordance/haunted grounds none of those perks are bad but gens and heals are gonna fly so fast you won't be able to generate enough value to win.

You don't even have to do that though. Maybe 1 time per match on every survivor at worst. But chances are you see an exhaustion on a player at some point before then and you know they don't have DH. I can't recall the last time I had to wait out DHs on every survivor for every down. People aren't waiting out a potential DH after a survivor uses SB or Lithe mid-chase...right?
I would say the majority of my killer games it's against 3-4 DHs.
-
@BlueHorkew said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3342561#Comment_3342561
I mean DH is part of the small but almost mandatory category of exhaustion perks.
And Survivors only have 3 good ones so no wonder DH has a huge pickrate
As someone who consistently escapes with no exhaustion perks you're 100% wrong.
They make the game easier but they're no where near mandatory.
-
Because assuming every survivor has DH and waiting it out every single chase is so fun and rewarding?
Eruption needed a nerf for sure but pretending DH is fine when it has a higher usage rate than Eruption does is weak af.
-
So PR currently takes 13.5 seconds off a gen to match that the gen you use PGTW on as to be at 75% progress and it out preform PR at percentages higher than that.
Let's say for the sake of argument the average gen is 50% complete. If you pain res first the gen goes back to 35% and now let's say they let go and keep working on it until you get there and that takes about 10 seconds and then they run away and you use pop on the gen. When you get there the gen should be at roughly 46% progress. If you pop that gen it will take away 8.3 seconds of progress or roughly 9% meaning it's basically the same as jolt. Except instead of just downing a survivor near the gen you had to down them hook them and walk over to the gen and kick it.
But that aside that gives you on average a combined 21.8 seconds of regression for completing a chase, picking up and getting them on a scourge hook and then walking over and kicking the gen. I'm gonna make a wild guess and say that all takes much longer than 21.8 seconds. Now granted you can run CoB with it and maybe then it gets stupid but that would just show how we're currently oversaturated with regression perks at the moment.
My take away from this is you could buff pain res/pop combo by buffing pop and it would be fine but other regression perks would have to be tweaked to compensate. The ability to stack 4 slowdowns will always keep individual perks from shining like they could.
tl;dr is pop is mediocre rn but you would need to nerf other regression perks to buff pop because there's so many options now.
EDIT: Just want to add for reference that pop/pain averages out to 24.2% of a gen so it won't even reach old Pop levels at the moment most of the time. Pop is looking worse and worse the more math I do.
-
As someone who still plays a considerable amount of wraith nah I'm good. He has the best collection of add-ons in the game after Blight IMO, a way to legit bait dead hard by tapping the bell and can go zoom in 8 directions instead of 1 so is a far better zoom-y boy than Blight. Also denying a survivor a pallet or window is just funny.
-
Perk: Bloodshot
Item: Crowbar
Killer: The Spider
-
Oh if they're giving priority to killers instead of the survivor when it comes to the pallet then the perk is still kinda bad lol, it's not like you really get many opportunities to use it in the first place and resetting pallets can waste time if you do it too much so I don't see it becoming that much better if you can't be creative with it in chase.
-
Honestly I've though about it and screw it just give me the ability to place skull claymore mines around the map. Traversing the map would actually be terrifying having to worry about that as survivor.
-
I am really curious how the AMN buff is going to work out. I can see it doing nothing and I can also see getting a stun with a pallet starting the animation the killer waiting for it just to cancel the animation and then start it again just to be cheeky and buy extra time.
-
Bring Distortion if you're that worried about it.

It's only going to be good if you want to go for a heavy slug.
Which is something that BHVR are actively looking to change - hence the whole 'baseline UB' thing.
Do you...really want to see more mass slugging?
Baseline. UB. is. not. a. thing. stop. using. it for. balancing. arguments.
That being said do I want mass slugging as a whole to be a thing? Not really but I think it's completely fine as a play style for certain killers that obviously were designed to be able to do it well. At this point I consider slugging to be part of Oni's identity as a killer as well as for a few others and that's okay.
-
So I don't think it's a cyborg just because if you look at the plans the bottom drawing can be perceived as a body but there are no arms but four legs there as a base, this is important to the killer as you see it again at 0:14 but upside down. Also keep in mind they never just straight up show us the killer in a teaser unless it's a license.
What I think instead is a couple possibilities either the power is a spider skull bot and it's gonna be like twins with a main killer and a controllable separate entity power. Or the other possibility is a trap killer and the drawings are two separate trap powers that do different things. Either is possible because I can't tell if you pause at 0:40 if that's supposed to be a robotic eye/camera or a trip sensor in the mouth of the skull.

It's now a dead perk.
Meaning that...we'll be seeing 50%+ Pain Resonance usage rates, so that's next.
Sigh.
I hope you're all very, very proud of yourselves.

Now imagine you're a killer player, and are seeing more and more straight up hard genrush squads.
Welcome to the new killer meta - which is going to be more stale than the pre 6.1.0 Ruin/PR meta.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3341190#Comment_3341190
Except that every single one of those perks is still a very solid, very viable pick.
Eruption is now about on par with the new Pop. It's...crap.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3341108#Comment_3341108
Is this really an improvement to game health? I think it's the exact opposite.
We'll now have a killer meta that is basically one build. Even pre 6.1.0 wasn't that bad.
Ugh.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3341168#Comment_3341168
It's going to be terrible. You'd be better off running Surge on those killers. Or, better yet, Pain Resonance. On everyone.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3341174#Comment_3341174
It's 10% of aura reading at a time where you really don't need it.
The only thing this will enable is...yup, yet again - heavy slugging on Nurse or Blight. Which they can already do with FOR or IF.
You're not understanding why it's still gonna be good on those killers. Being able to down someone on Oni or Billy and instantly know where more survivors are is very powerful. I don't know why you're comparing it to surge and pain res because the regression is not the point it's the information and the regression is a bonus. It's a completely different category of perk now.
-
- New chapter theme is kinda a bop
- I could easily see this being a trap killer so I'm excited
-
I think it'll be more niche now which is fine, you don't play this on every killer anymore but I like it for Billy, Oni and Myers. It's a variation of infectious fright now with a little bit of regression.
-
I've never seen anyone complain about WoO and it seems like such a weird thing to complain about. It lets you plan ahead which is strong but it's not OP or anything by a long shot.
That being said play a game using WoO, Bond, visionary and open handed with a key with blood amber at least once. You become a living map that sees everything and it's kinda hilarious.
-
I feel like BHVR is so used to having their chapters leaked they forgot how to do teasers.
-
Clearing the download cache on steam seems to have fixed it. The saving data tendrils are still going a bit crazy at the end of the game but I get returned to the lobby and can queue up again now with the game saving my progress.
-
They need to change DH again not because it's overpowered at this point I think it's mostly fine but more to create a more interesting experience.
If they don't change it playing killer will always be about baiting and waiting out Dead Hard which is just incredibly stale.
-
-FNAF coming to DBD would be a good thing. Bring a huge community to the game to help growth and could bring an interesting killer and map. The reputation of the FNAF community is way overblown and not terribly worse than the one DBD already has.
-I don't think it would be a bad idea for DBD to create a business model similar to Dead or Alive where they focus less on new characters and focus more on balance and absolutely overwhelm the community in cosmetics. To this point I think a lot of outfits only available with auric cells would be fine.
-
At first I was gonna be "people bashing the devs unreasonably like always" but then I thought about it and the last 3 maps have been Shattered Square, Garden of Joy and Eyrie of Crows.
Yeah....the people have a point with this one if we got no maps for a while that might be a good thing. Devs legit haven't made a good map since Midwich and even that map isn't exactly the pinnacle of balance. Really you have to go all the way back to Oni and Sanctum of Wrath to find a map that doesn't favor either side.
I wanna see how they redo Red forest and then if that remake is good maybe they can be trusted to make more maps.
-
You're better off sending a business email for something like this I would assume. I don't think most of the devs are on here much.
