Whoa whoa whoa, the current matchmaking is clearly having some issues, but let's not jump on the train pretending the old matchmaking was worth a #########.

Hmmm.... Pretty much :D
With the exception that pacman killers don't compete with each other.
You don't know that! Inky and Blinky have had a mutual grudge for decades.

So... Pac-Man?

Generally I don't care all that much, but it can be a little annoying when you have a challenge to kill everyone in a trial and you just never found the hatch, and the last survivor is clearly somewhere just standing on it, but the map's too big to quickly find them. Also annoying, even as a killer, to see someone let their last teammate die while they just camp the hatch. In those cases I will do my absolute best to make sure that survivor gets a little karma for abandoning their teammate. And I don't mean when they have like 4 gens left, I've seen it happen with just one gen left. I've seen a dude leave TWO people on hooks to camp the hatch. Like what are you doing?? Did you bring the rarest item in the game and no white ward or something?

This killer is such a joke, especially after the nerfs. I can't believe I used to main him. Unless you're a curving master or survivors play like absolute potatoes, you will never be able to chainsaw someone down. Even when you're point blank, survivors can just run into your body or move slightly to the left or right and get a complete dodge. The new music is the only good thing about him.
A "curving master"? So you mean someone who's actually good at playing him? Well, yeah, that would explain why he's a joke to you.
-
Honestly, it feels like an utterly terrible play experience to have your view forced down like that. Yes, even on Nurse. There are better ways to conceal information that she shouldn't be seeing while fatigued than forcing your camera towards the ground for several seconds. It feels SO bad to play.
-
Good to know even video game forums aren't immune to the dumbest of conspiracy theories.
-
I thought it was kind of cute when I read "HAHA HE ROSTED YOU" because I thought they were joking.
Then I read the other images.
What garbage people. Report them every single time. That kind of stuff, above anything else you can do, will absolutely result in a quick and I assume permanent ban. Report it to both BHVR and Steam. Never hurts to try for the double whammy!
-
Just give each one a randomized, kinda-hard-but-not-super-hard skillcheck, to make disarming them more risky. Fail and ya get the CLAMPS!
-
So they go from some janky emblem system to an MMR system that almost every competitive game uses and suddenly it's casual? You don't sound very competitive at all. You want to do better than your enemies? Win matches.

just felt sorry for the killer he/she clearly had no clue what to do. we just blazed through gens and left. i also didnt like the others t-bagin at the exit gate
Sounds like standard the standard DBD killer experience, so everything is working as intended.
-
I love the implication that you're playing the game with one hand and casually drinking a coffee with the other while stalking people.
-
I mean it makes sense. The killer queue is several times longer than survivor on PC. That means there's a loooooot more survivors than killers.
-
Would be neat if other survivors had stationary (or semi-stationary, like on a rail-track or something) defenses they could use to help someone else who's looping the killer. Right now outside of body blocks and a few other small tricks, a chase is a very 1v1 thing. I think giving certain survivors tools to help loopers keep looping would slow the game down (which is good right now since the games are too fast) and open up the game to players who maybe aren't great loopers but want to help in ways besides just holding M1 to do gens or heal. For some examples: A giant spotlight to really blind the killer (maybe a charge time and telegraph?) or a giant gong/bell to deafen the killer and make it easier for a wounded looper to slink off for a few seconds. Breaking a pipe to cover an area in water to temporarily hide all survivor scratch marks in that area, etc.
Alternatively, killers could go out of their way to trap areas of their own, maybe add a remote control item they can collect in certain stages, where hitting the secondary action button would cause a pathway to change and force a survivor to take a different route, or windows with actual glass in them that a survivor could go through, but would sustain an injury (but not a down, so already being injured would be the preferable way to go through it) and would hemorrhage for a while.
None of these are like 100% workshopped-to-polish ideas, obviously, but there are things they could do to spice it up without having to completely redesign the game. Introduce experimental maps that you have to opt-in for where maybe they just cobble together some other maps and random props to try out new loop concepts and gameplay elements and see what people like. DBD is going strong so I get that they don't want to fix what isn't broken (well, usually) but getting complacent can also cause problems.
-
I also gotta say, her ultra rare add-ons are just complete trash. "Blink less to walk a little faster" "make your blink complete trash to get 1 extra charge." Really? These are the hot ultra rare add-ons? I mean, it's great in that I don't have to spend BP on them, but you'd think for such rare items there wouldn't be so many drawbacks. I know it's not quite the same as an add-on, but an ebony mori doesn't come with a list of crazy requirements, even though it should. Poor girl needs her base kit looked at in a way that makes it more fun to play.
-
I don't get any disorientation (well, any unintended disorientation) from it, but it does make for kind of a poor play experience. This kind of fatigue probably made a lot more sense when she was blinking around 6 times. Seems a little excessive for just 2. I'd rather literally be stuck in place and be able to freely look around.

That’s not how this system works though. It auto sorts itself quite quickly. Within the first day of everyone playing is enough time to get a good feel. 6 games later it should be locked in.
My best guess is that they set the Placement Games MMR way too high. And they will stealth fix it if they haven’t already.
See, this misses a critical bit that I started out with: "Everyone" is absolutely not playing enough to get a good feel. It might be enough to get a good feel for you, but remember, there's 4 other people in the match and there's millions of players in the overall pool of players, many of which who might play a single game per week, or far less often. I hadn't played since the game launched and only came back last month. As the percentage of the more active userbase plays more games, it should definitely even out, but some people only play on weekends, for example. So personally I'd expect to see it doing much better in about 3-4 days.
-
This topic is getting pretty tiring. On the one hand I understand the frustration since I'm also obviously still dealing with the issues going on, on the other hand people have no patience at all. I get that days is a long time on the internet, but I imagine it'll take several more for it to settle properly.
So let's just consider some of the factors:
- Dead by Daylight has millions of players. Many of those come back around patch time, and despite their previous skill levels or ranks, they will have 0 MMR games. Whether they're rank 1 or rank 20, they'll need to play their matches.
- People in the initial 10 games are likely matched based on how well they did in previous games, along with the MMRs of people in their previous games. If a bunch of potatoes keep going against each other and one potato player keeps winning over and over despite not going up against amazing opponents, the early MMR system will push them higher and higher until they hit a brick wall, at which point they'll go lower and lower until their wins start evening out a bit.
- While I'm not a developer or anything, I imagine with a game of this player size and how infrequently some people might play, we might be seeing these big fluctuations for a week or more, getting more and more steady as the days go on. Heck, I imagine it could even take a month to be fully settled, but I imagine long before that it'll feel closer to "right" than it does right now.
- Remember, there's 5 players in every match, not just you. Again, you playing your 10 games does not mean the other 4 have played their 10 games.
I should probably stop responding to these threads because I feel like it'll just be a meme of me coming into each MMR thread and "defending" it with some big wall of text, but the reality is I don't know how it's set up or how long it will actually take, or even if it's properly designed. What I do know is that either way, it needs a little more time before we can determine its quality, and it'll likely be tweaked and touched-up as the numbers come in on BHVR's side.
I've been in many games where MMR is introduced and the results the first few days are rarely enjoyed much by the players, but ultimately it's usually worth it because when it settles, it feels so much better than just random matchmaking or even DBD's rank system.

10 matches later on doctor, theres no difference! im still fighting people who are higher than me. 'but rank has no meaning anymore!' ok, put a new rank 20 against a red rank 1. if rank doesnt mean ANYTHING, then that means they both have a 50/50 of winning! but surprise surprise, someone with thousands of hours can cream someone who plays casually. i thought matchmaking was supposed to stop this? well great job, the update has done nothing.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/Y0ZAXE52OUZN/green-vs-red-png.png
No, when people say rank doesn't mean anything, they mean it literally doesn't mean anything. It is not factored into matchmaking. Only MMR rating is. And proper MMR functionality requires everyone to have their 10 games played, not just one person. Until there's a baseline score established over a majority of players, there's gonna be a lot of system-testing-the-water games.
My matches have been getting progressively better and better the more I play. It started out completely wild and felt absolutely random, but I'm getting put against people that seem to be about my relative skill level now. Still not perfect (dunno if it'll ever be, MMR in a game like this is bound to be kinda wonky) but it's starting to feel noticeably better than the old system, at least once I stopped being matched with 20s and 1s.
-
I died once because I waited too long to try to remove it, and once because I was curious what would happen if you tried to leave with a trap on my head. Spoiler alert: Your head go boom.
So, yes, but also not often enough for it to be a huge deal. But the fact that you absolutely have to go around to remove it to actually escape the trial is kind of a big deal.
-
You can usually tell within a few minutes how experienced the opposite side is. If I'm playing killer and it's obvious they're super new, I'm totally fine giving them a bunch of second chances and even pretending I didn't see them sometimes. I don't go too easy because I don't want to help them develop bad habits that'll get them killed later, but I definitely don't go all sweaty at all.

If you want mouse and keyboard support, you must first prove your mastery by finding the enter key and slicing that wall of text into half or even quarters.

It does not work like that in any games I've played. LoL starts at Gold rank, CSGO starts at MG, so please tell me, what game puts new players against veterans at highest ranks?
How about you take xanax and piss off?
See, you already don't understand. The "highest rank" hasn't been established yet. This is the establishing phase of MMR. His hours and his old rank mean nothing to the current system. This is basically a reset. Yes, I'm sure that since the MMR system was running in the background that he's got a pretty decent MMR already, but as there are so many players and we're on day 2 of MMR matchmaking, there's going to be a lot of incidents like this for a few days. It's normal, and expected.
You have to pair people with more than just the default rating in the establishing phase, and, I know people don't like to think very far through this, but those "new" players could've just won 8 games in a row against other "new" players because everyone they went up against was more of a potato than them. So then the MMR will toss you against bigger and bigger fish until you get beat, then it'll go lower again.
You guys see a single game results screen from one player and assume you know the story of all 5 people.

Do you know how to read? System should not put inexperienced players versus extremely experienced players. No matter how it wants to calculate the ######### numbers.
"This is how MMR works."
"REEEEEE NO IT SHOULDN'T WORK LIKE THAT"
Well, that's how it works. On every game. Ever. That is how it's intended to work. The entire goddamn POINT is to put people of differing skill levels together and see how they do. If you don't like it, that's rough, but that's how it works. It will settle. Take your xanax and take a nap.

Yadayadayadayada, I know devs said ranks don't matter BUT THE SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING AS INTENDED IF IT PAIRS EXTREMELY GOOD PLAYERS AGAINST MEDIOCRE OR WORSE PLAYER TOGETHER! MMR is a ######### joke.
Do you actually not know how to read? MMR matches you against players of all skill levels before settling your numbers.
Read that five or six times before replying again in all caps. New players will be ranked the same way everyone else is: By testing their skills against players of varying skill levels. That is how MMR establishes a baseline rating.
-

The MMR system should not allow ranks 12+ to be against R1 killer. That is just stupid.
Ranks are not a factor in the MMR system. It literally has 0 impact on the matchmaking. It is establishing a new matchmaking precedent. It will settle.
-
MMR matches you up against all kinds of skill levels before settling your numbers. Otz's numbers may be sorted, but the survivors' numbers are not.

Lol Trapper is more consistent than her.
I think that says more about you than the Nurse. A good Nurse literally just downs you without you able to do anything at all. It's not nearly as bad as it was before, and yes, she's difficult to learn to play properly and very frustrating as you learn to use her power, so most people just don't even bother. But when you go up against a master nurse player, it's unlike anything else in DBD. There is NOTHING you can do. There is no escaping. There is only your inevitable death.
-
She's designed around a mouse. I can't even imagine trying to use her with a clunky gamepad. I could say much the same for the rest of the game, but it goes doubly for the nurse.

Forget map pressure and build for 3 gen for these 2 killers.

-
Guys, I think there might be an element we're forgetting: It still has to figure out where to place people of all kinds of ranks who haven't played in a while, and sometimes not at all. Generally I believe MMR systems will pair you up a few times against different tiers of skill, and see how you do in each. Some people, even when new, can hold their own against people you might not expect. Of course, this isn't so common as to be the norm, but I could see the system just pairing folks up and seeing how it goes as it tries to land accurate numbers for everyone.
Not an excuse or anything, I think with a new MMR system there's just always going to be a period of wild games until things settle a bit. I imagine the first day will always be the most chaotic by far, and it's a shame that we're seeing a bunch of rank 20s going against an ebony mori rank 4, so the initial parameters clearly didn't take much into account, but I think it should get a lot better real soon.
-
The ironic part is, on average you'll do far better by not being selfish, because individual survivors are hilariously weak, and are only a threat to the killer's objective when focused, and find focusing easier when they can rely on each other. Stealing someone's item or intentionally being a dick just means they'll happily do the same to you. So now you've fractured your side and massively decreased the chances of you winning for no reason except that you're an idiot.
Yes, we all get matched up with poor players from time to time, but if you've got that "I'm the lone cool dude who doesn't need a team," they made an option for you, it's called the killer.
-
Yeah, it can happen. A single generator takes 80 seconds to complete for one survivor, with no toolboxes or perks. If all four survivors are left alone on gens (not saying that's what happened, just making an example) then you've got 4 gens in less than a minute and a half. If you get multiple survivors on the last gen, we're looking at a match over in possibly under 2 minutes.
Of course, that's absolutely optimal, the-killer-is-AFK time, they took over double this time, so it's clear your pressure was at least somewhat effective. But if they get back on gens immediately and wasted little to no time doing anything else outside of chases/unhooks, then yeah, 5 and a half minutes isn't unheard of.
When the gens pop fast, it can be really disheartening, it feels like some sort of otherworldly version of DBD they're playing that you never get to, at least if you only play solo queue most of the time like me, or SWF with a single other person.

I am all for punishing DCers, they ruin the game for everyone. Then again, it's double edged sword...
On one hand you want to punish those who rage quit on the first down and early - They have wasted everyone's time by breaking the flow of the game that is suppose to be 4vs1 not 3vs1 or 2vs1.
Then again... If you punish DCers, you run into a problem where killers hold you hostage in some games and if you DC just to get out of the game, you get punished for something they are responsible for and should be punished for instead.
Now at least, I can just dc if I see killer keeping the game hostage. Sure, I lose my points for the match and it sux, but beats being slugged and dragged around and downed for the next 10-20 minutes.
In those (rare) cases, you DC, report them for holding the game hostage, which is against the TOS, and then relax for 5 minutes until the ban is up. You've still saved time over dealing with having the game held hostage, and if the match was going that poorly you likely had very few points, so, a minor inconvenience, but nothing compared to the ACTUAL ban the killer will get.
-
If you're doing a rare DC because of a really unfortunate situation where someone is actively trying to ruin the game, you're dealing with a measly 5 minute ban. Browse Youtube for 5 minutes. It's not a big deal at all. But of course, people don't like that they can't DC every time they take an M1 in the first minute of the match, the kind of people who'd quickly gather hours and hours of DC bans.
Those people can learn to either play the game as intended and try to get better or deal with consequences like an adult.
-
I'd rather you shitlords quit the game entirely and go play something else than clog up the queue with your manbaby attitudes.

I started out with Pyramid Head, but I'm finding Trapper super fun. There's this real good satisfaction I get from hearing someone getting caught in one of my traps, it makes me chuckle. I had a pretty bad Midwich game, and was basically everyone was going to escape because I couldn't pressure the map well enough. So I gathered up every single trap on the map and made a labyrinth of death at the exit gates. There was no way to get through it without disarming or getting caught. I swear at least 6-7 traps caught people in that endgame, taking it from a solid loss to a respectable 2k, since the remaining survivors managed to make it to the other gate while I was hooking, which I had to do. I was very happy with that game. Trapper just makes it feel like I have an actual plan and watching that plan play out feels rewarding in a way much different from just landing a hit in a chase or something.
As for survivor, I'm still leveling like half the roster, I don't really have a main because they're all basically the same character. While I love playing as survivor, I kind of don't care about any of them. Most of any sort of attachment I have comes from community memes or streamers yelling out their names when they make mistakes or make clutch plays, rather than from their design or lore or anything.
-
Ah, I almost forgot! They have two alternate game modes: Infection and traitor. Infection is fun but wouldn't really fit with DBD, that's where every time the killer gets someone, that person also turns into a killer. Obviously would just be a real disaster in DBD.
The other mode, though... So, the survivor team has a traitor, and their job is to get everyone else killed, but they still have to avoid being killed themselves, because in this mode the killer is a bot, to prevent them from communicating. The non-traitors can then use the gun item, and instead of using it to stun the killer, they can try to figure out who the traitor is. If they shoot a non-traitor, they turn into another killer. If they shoot the traitor, they win.
Obviously it could be retooled to fit the style of DBD better, but I'd love the idea of having a mode where you get 5 survivors and have no idea who the traitor is. Would have to be non-SWF of course. I just think it'd be so much fun to try and figure out if that Meg is failing skillchecks because she's bad or because she's trying to delay the game a little longer. You wouldn't want to be too obvious as the traitor, but you couldn't be too helpful, either. Getting out of line of sight of other players to cause mayhem could be a lot of fun.
EDIT: Also I just learned that the traitor mode was added to piggy for "1 billion visits" to the game. Holy crap.
-
Should be able to chuck a pebble, and if you have top-tier MLG aim and hit his chainsaw it makes him throw a tantrum like he hit a wall.
-
Well, the killer can't see add-ons or anything, but yeah, I overall agree. If everyone decides to meme swap to 4 flashlights, the killer should have a chance to respond to that with lightborn and an ebony mori, as punishment for their foolishness.
-
I don't care if survivors change their actual survivor, since they're just skins. But there should be a cutoff point for changing weapons, and that cutoff point should be well before the match starts, so a killer can change perks/add-ons accordingly.
