Going to have to ask you to elaborate.

Because the way I see it both scenarios include someone choosing their own enjoyment over the integrity of their match and the consideration of others in order to get a match where they won't have difficulty winning.

  • @Shuma said:

Well, there are no come back mechanics for survivors. Most times a minor mistake does end the game for survivors. Survivors pretty much have to play close to perfectly or they lose.

It’s like chess, when you know you’ve lost, you forfeit, you don’t keep playing a lost game.

Meh. I've won plenty of games that went south pretty hard due to someone being bad. I wouldn't say most games are doomed if someone messed up at the start.

That being said, I am not in favor of removing being able to die on hook unless DC penalties were modified to give one free DC per day.

People wanting stricter DC penalties and inability to die on hook just sound like killer players to me tbh.

There's a lot of killer players here who say solo queue is fine.

So? In your opinion, people who saying this intentionally lying or what?
Soloq IS fine. Matchmaking isn't, because when i play with experienced players in soloq, it's very enjoyable experience. Sure, there should be some improvements, such as Kindred without killer's aura basekit and teammates' perks on esc button, but it's not something with what soloq will shine after, if current soloq is awful for you. Because i don't enjoy soloq like every game, but in 90% of cases the reason of it is teammates doing awful and throw even most winnable game. And you won't improve it.
And for saying that, I should be accused of hypocrisy and not be entitled to an opinion because it's different from the majority, right?

Idk where you got all of that from.

I'm just saying if you main survivor and care about winning, solo-queue is not productive or enjoyable at all.

If its your secondary role that you play to chill and not care about winning on, then sure you probably would find it playable. But that's like me saying killer has no problems because I let mostly everyone go every game and meme around 9/10 times.

Playing both roles does help improve your understanding, but I disagree that every opinion is equal when it comes to certain topics, despite everyone having a right to their own opinion.

  • People do that a lot for both sides.

There's a lot of killer players here who say solo queue is fine.

Its one thing to be realistic about something you play its entirely another to want something you enjoy gutted for seemingly no reason.

  • BHVR is more likely to shut down the game rather than deny killers the ability to lobby shop.

  • @TheArbiter said:

I mean would you rather an anti-loop killer, which makes for exciting chases or snooze killers focused around slowing down gens?

I think Anti-Loop like Nemesis is fine. He can still animation trap for a free hit. But it takes three hits and the counterplay feels fair.

Wesker's is pretty decent too up to a point.

Ranged killers, Xenomorph, SM, Knight, Artist, etc are all dreadfully boring to play vs imo.

  • I feel like this thread is going to be a graveyard the next time a mod opens it.

    On topic:

Fix the reasons people go next instead of forcing them to be punching bags for the killer.

  • What is there to be excited about? I don't think it has anything to do with the license and more the assumption that people who are very in the loop regarding this game like the folks on this forum are disillusioned with BHVR's gameplay design.

The Unknown proved that even with fantastic aesthetics, buildup, and lore, the lack of creativity and innovation when it comes to new content and how it plays renders the above meaningless in the long run.

Combine this with the fact that last anniversary was plagued with horrendous latency issues that were never officially recognized and you get the resulting ambivalence.

  • @Blueberry said:

I'm hoping that this is actually in anticipation of some big change to be announced at the anniversary that will slow gens down some. Like the early game collapse they talked about long ago. That would at least make some of this make sense.

I'm intrigued. Do you have the source of this concept?

I've always thought Corrupt should be basekit and that the perk would just enhance it somehow.

First chase decides games for either side is really annoying.

  • Once they realize their vision of the game is impractical we might get somewhere. Until then it's business as usual for BHVR.

you can’t be real with that?

You meant including Forged in Fog, right? … RIGHT?

also.. you think they don’t have a gameplay design team? Just because you don’t like their decisions they must not exist??

I meant to include 'a new gameplay team' my bad.

And yeah that chapter wasn't very good either gameplay-wise but I liked the map and aesthetics.

Unknown was amazing, but the survivor is whatever and the gameplay was awful on both sides.

  • Yeah it doesn't look very exciting.

Then again, all of the additions since Forged in the Fog have been flops to me and I don't see that changing until they get a gameplay design team which isn't happening atm.

  • @Yharwick said:

Meh I get it's a lot to work on but I honestly believe people are giving BHVR too much leeway here. This is a company that released a killer 5 years ago and only just now fixed a "bug" that existed since release. That took years to balance a huntress add on which was about as complicated as limiting the number of hatchets to 1 and it goes on and on with twins, blast mine, several killers being kill switched a year, etc. Nobody is saying they need to work more hours but it is a completely legitimate criticism to say the quality just isn't there with this game and I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for better.

People do this with any dev team that's 'transparent.'

Parasocial relationships are an interesting thing but are very damaging for the consumer and I wish people understood that.

To me, the developers deserve to be treated with respect and grace, but the current state of the game is unacceptable and they need to acknowledge it as such and give us at least a superficial glimpse into what they intend to do about it.

But much like the silence that happened during the Anniversary latency I suspect they'll be silent about this too and just release a low effort fix and keep it trucking.

  • @Nazzzak said:

They need to have a ping cap or something for games

The general consensus here, even from the mods, is that it's 'discriminatory' to suggest people who have 150+ ms should be restricted from playing on certain servers. I suspect its because the truth is that BHVR just doesn't want to invest in more servers.

The amount of Latin American players that play on NA is frustrating because the game falls apart really badly when the killer has bad ping.

Its not their fault and I don't blame them ofc.

  • @Sandt1985 said:

I typically don't have a problem with an offensive DS, but if it happens, they're getting tunneled out of the game, pure and simple. I do my best to avoid tunneling, but if you use DS to protect another teammate, my focus is on you until your out of the game. Best to just let me chase the unhooker, yes?

Why do people keep saying this? What do you want us to say?

Tunneling happens anyways, how is this conclusion scary or taboo in any way?

If you want to tunnel then tunnel.

  • You're not wrong but this thread definitely won't (and isn't) going to go down well given the current crowd.

Feels more and more like an off-shoot of the Reddit tbh.

Reasoning like this is slowly turning me into a slugging/tunneling killer myself, who has people trying to bait their DS against me as I spread hooks.

You simply get outplayed after all.

Again this isn't a threat. Most killers are already doing this.

I like having the ability to play optimally and expect my opponent to do the same.

I think you should stop worrying about imaginary rulebooks and internet karma and just play how you want.

Ohh, I'm more than happy eating a DS when I'm actually tunneling. Turn it up to 7 seconds. I have no issue with that. But get rid of bodyblocking with DS. That is not the intention behind it.

When I go out of my way not to tunnel and then I still have to deal with DS, that's when I have an issue and that's when I will tunnel. DS is supposed to be a last line of defense against a tunneling killer, not a tool to make you a meat shield for your team mate.

Since the DS buff, I have tunneled a lot more. If I have to go through your DS anyway, then I have absolutely no reason not to tunnel you. Quite the opposite because a DS puts me behind schedule, so it becomes harder for me to win.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3710211#Comment_3710211

Yeah, right. I got outplayed when they mind gamed me into thinking it was safe to put them on a hook. I guess I'll just start slugging everyone until I have the whole team down?! Or do I need to bleed everyone out as well because they could outplay me by getting a kobe?

And for DH… Well, I guess pressing E to get to a pallet you otherwise wouldn't get to is an outplay now.

Exactly my point, you discredit the thought that goes into both perks because its frustrating to not be able to pin it on anything but being outplayed.

Also, you were going to slug, bleed out, and tunnel anyways, this isn't really a threat anymore, I'd imagine most survivors are used to it by now.

  • Killers don't like any perk that has an obvious tell that they were outplayed.

That's the reason why DH/DS are called crutch/second chance perks and NOED is called a 'comeback mechanic.'

I wouldn't pay it any mind.

This is literally the most balanced the game has ever been objectively and that can’t be argued. That’s probably why you don’t like it anymore, because all the ridiculously overpowered stuff is gone. This game used to be a survivors paradise back in the day lol.

Does balanced = fun? Do you think balance through nerfing is more fun than balance through buffing?

By your own admission, the game used to be way better for survivors, and they fell off hard, so what's a reason why survivors should continue to play?

Not trying to load these questions, but I'm genuinely curious because it seems like people imply survivors should be grateful they got kneecapped.

  • I mean there's not really a difference between him and other anti loop killers.

But he, Huntress, and alien are definitely the worst to play against and I honestly wouldn't mind all three being removed.

  • @Saiph said:

Yeah this is number 1 problem in the game for me, and I don't understand how it's getting so little attention.

People on this forum took a lot of time explaining how the 3% of MFT was gamebreaking because it allowed survivors to reach a pallet just in time, but they keep radio silent when the killer gets this same advantage for free just by having a bad connection (or a VPN).

Resilience gives survivors +45 ms faster vaults, and people call that borderline OP, but a killer having 45 ms ping is viewed as totally reasonable and fair, and yet it counteracts resilience.

I guess top players don't care because tournaments are played with low ping anyway. But this makes the ladder a joke, any match where the killer has 100+ ms requires the survivor to play a lot safer, we've seen this in the Europe vs. Asia showcase, players on both sides were getting hit like they are complete noobs, yet the game doesn't even show you the ping of the killer. I despise playing against some killers like Wesker and Huntress just because of ping.

Well for starters this game has no competitive integrity so I doubt the devs actually care. You'll never see killer ping as a result.

Secondly they just don't want to spend money on more servers, but instead of admitting that you'll just get told that 'everyone has a right to play.'

Furthermore, I sincerely doubt anyone who would be in charge of fixing this actually plays against lagging killers, let alone anyone outside of their internal team.

NA East is especially bad with people from Latin America being forced to play on the region with 90+ ping making it unplayable.

  • How do you feel about about Low GFX settings removing foliage and fog?

  • @Choaron said:

Is it finally time for casual survivor players to realize how insufferable this killer is to go against when played half decently?

Yeah I don't understand why everyone wants them to be high tier.

The killer is miserable to play against.

  • They need to enforce teamplay and make selfish playstyles impossible or punishable.

Remove useless garbage like chest perks, luck perks, sole survivor, etc.

Require gen progress to use lockers/totems/chests/items. Forces players to progress the game before they do anything that's not progressing the game.

Then we can see how strong survivors are when the average team is focused on progressing the game and adjust accordingly.

  • Stop playing regularly somewhat after Xenomorph release, that power and the map made me lose interest fast.

I occasionally play killer to get rift progress but survivor gameplay has dwindled to maybe a few games every few weeks.

It definitely is a flavor of the month one.

It's a strong perk, but it's just something for people to blame their losses on, ultimately. I'm sure it will get nerfed, and maybe it needs to, but ultimately people will go back to slamming gens, well get another perk like it and do the same thing over again.

I'd rather see more perks like BGP on both sides than remove it. Amp up the chaos

I'm shocked Resilience isn't being complained about considering the same rhetoric people used for MFT regarding 'being rewarded for making a mistake' can apply to it.

I am not surprised however, that survivors are told to get good and just never lose chase when asking for counters to four slowdowns with tunneling and camping. But telling killers to just equip lightborn and three slowdown is something that's controversial.

  • People will say "its okay use that F- killer perk if you want to 🥺🥺🥺" then get mad when survivors 4% their way out of the game.

    Makes no sense.

  • I kinda wish people would just argue their points in their points instead of posting a long video from a CC I don't want to watch just to have a discussion.

Forum killers see any complaint about tunnelling or camping and just immediately jump to 'Guess I can't hook anyone ever'.

I'd also point out that people like to claim survivor mains just want perfect games then get flashbanged once and then suddenly flashbang is overpowered.

People get too emotionally attached to their role and it makes these discussions obnoxious because every suggested change is taken personally.

  • They already have???

Locker saves and canceling fall stagger with vaults both got removed before Blight's.

  • Pool of posters is too small and the ones that are interested in posting frequently are on opposite sides of the fence which means every thread boils down to the same people posting the same opinions depending on which side they favor and then arguing in circles until the thread gets closed.

I myself have deleted many would-be posts because I realized I'm talking to the same people everytime lol.

As for the game I think it's in a functional and balanced state despite my many critiques and lack of overall interest in playing.

I just think the constant sanding off of anything non-conforming has made it pretty boring.

They have been listening. Hug tech was one of the biggest complaints on these forums and they are removing it. Same with the HUD and Ultimate Weapon nerfs. And while they aren’t perfect they still listened and tried to address camping and 3 gens. And Skull Merchant has been reworked multiple times because of survivor complaints.

Yes there is still a lot to do to make solo queue better, but to say they aren’t balancing the issues in the survivor end is wrong. They are listening to both sides.

Yeah it only took them ages to remove something they called a bug, better late than never isn't cause for celebration when the damage has already been done.

Citing the HUD makes no sense here, while it is unequivocally a good change, it's also almost been a year+ (?) since it's been added.

Killer perk nerfs are largely irrelevant because you aren't facing the same perks every game, basekit nerfs are a lot more significant and guess which side gets basekit nerfs more?

There's also the fact that everytime a killer perk gets nerfed it either gets huge compensation (Pain Res) or a similar perk gets buffed and replaces it (Pop/GE.)

Meanwhile survivor perks like Dead Hard and MFT got absolutely trashed and nothing has replaced them, Background Player is definitely an outlier.

The three gen change was only a nerf insofar as you cannot textbook three gen anymore, but you can definitely proxy 3-gen and killer's got a big buff to gen kicking + the removal of gen tapping. Which means the gen change was a survivor nerf somehow.

SM did not get nerfed purely because of 'survivor complaints,' she got reworked twice because her design is terrible and they're too stubborn to let go of it, SM is actually one of the few times I've seen this community unite on an issue.

You might be okay with half-baked efforts to address problems but it's clear the problems persist, and this is not a case of people be insatiable and more that the gameplay devs have yet to put any serious effort into their changes, so I don't believe they deserve any praise (obviously dont deserve abuse either) until some serious changes are made to make the game better for survivors.

The bar needs to be higher imo.

I think its funny that people are so against using Lightborn but then will run the same four boring slowdowns every game???

  • Just lunge? I don't understand.

  • The killer might get mad they only get to beat up three people instead of four.

  • It's just something people like to spout.

I believe if people have the ability to leave feedback they should as long as its not violent/harassment.

I've seen people say that most feedback is useless but the devs ignore 'good' feedback anyways. So if you can complain, complain.

i never understood this logic of thinking. Why do u q up to lose? I hate this notion that the Survivors should just focus on having fun and not worry about winning. I'm not saying u said that but it very common to hear it on these forums

The people who say this are primarily killer players who solo queue to run chest builds and play immersed.

Very similar to the people who say survivor should feel terrible to play because its realistic to the 'horror theme.'

Having such a wide definition of tunneling is equally counterproductive.

If everything a killer can possibly do counts as tunneling, what can you possibly propose to 'fix' it? Prevent people playing killer?

    2. Killer hooks a survivor and leaves. Finds and hooks another survivor. First survivor is unhooked so killer returns to the first hook.

    B. The unhooked survivor bodyblocks with a weaponised Endurance, or to 'make use' of DS.

This can 'feel like' tunneling to the survivor, but this is an example of the killer going out of their way to not tunnel. They have chased, downed and hooked a survivor in the mean time, but the first hooked survivor was not rescued timely. They have had to return to where survivors are (the hook) and then attempted to go for the unhooker instead of the unhooked, yet they have been prevented from doing so.

This is not a hypothetical either. I've done this. As someone who actively avoids tunneling and usually tries to 2-hook everyone before eliminating anyone where possible, I've been in this situation, and ended up accused of tunneling.

This is why the survivor perspective cannot be used to define tunneling. It means everything is tunneling. So it's no wonder it's so prevalent when it's every action a killer can take.

Tunneling is simply targeting a recently unhooked survivor within a certain time-frame.

This time-frame varies for every person you ask, but there are definitely solutions that encompass a large swath of problems because of tunneling.

Yes people will still complain, but this shouldn't be relevant because most players are rational.

The reason I state to stop bringing up killer players is because it should be a given that killer would have to be compensated for losing the best strategy for winning.

The truth of why tunneling hasn't been addressed yet is because bhvr knows their profits aren't in danger so they're taking their time coming up with a low-cost, low-effort solution to implement.

People are grossly overthinking the problem because of BHVR's radio silence on the topic making it seem more complex than it is.

You'd be surprised how many "unsolvable" issues would be fixed very fast if this game had a serious competitor.

  • I prefer indoor maps way more because of how static they are. This is probably worse for killer but for looping being able to plan so far ahead because you know what loops are close is great.

Doing SWF callouts on RPD is very nice, and WoO isn't even needed on that map. Still remains one of my favorite maps in the game.

The only indoor map I dislike is Leyry's mainly because I don't like how noisy the center is and I hate that there are rng trap vaults that bring you straight to the Basement.

  • @Seraphor said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3699579#Comment_3699579

It's not "strict and myopic" to suggest that tunneling should be defined by "the killers intention to eliminate a survivor" as opposed to the survivors subjective experience of "getting hooked soon after being unhooked". It's the only way to differentiate between "killer instigated tunneling" and "survivor induced tunneling".

It's not always the killers intention to tunnel, or even awareness that they could be tunneling, even though the survivor feels they have been.

    1. Killer hooks a survivor and leaves the hook. Looks for other survivors, finds no one. Unhook notification goes off, killer returns to the hook.

    2. Killer hooks a survivor and leaves. Finds and hooks another survivor. First survivor is unhooked so killer returns to the first hook.

    A. The unhooking survivor stealths away leaving the unhooked survivor injured and crying.

    B. The unhooked survivor bodyblocks with a weaponised Endurance, or to 'make use' of DS.

Four combinations there to choose from, all can be interpreted as tunneling by the survivor, none of them are intentional, or with any purpose to 'eliminate a survivor early' they're simply hitting what is in front of them, and to avoid doing so would be tantamount to throwing the game, similar to if a survivor had the opportunity to complete a gen but instead decided to 'let the killer kick it and go away to leave it to regress' even if they could easily avoid it.

    These are all tunneling though?

I think people need to stop bringing in morality to excuse tunneling, it should be very clear to anyone intelligent that this isn't a moral dilemma and that killer players aren't felons for wanting to play to win.

The entire point is that a recently unhooked survivor shouldn't be such an obvious choice of target for a killer who wants to win. That is the entire problem.

And only being borderline unhookable until they do something conspicuous will truly kill tunneling, obviously remove collision to prevent weaponizing it too.

Having such a narrow definition of tunneling is counterproductive because the solution needs to be broadly applicable or it's useless.

  • @Ayodam said:

These stats are dubious but seem inconsequential. I just dunno why they release things like this while withholding the stats people routinely request. I feel there’s an angle they’re trying to play by avoiding stats that would be controversial (like number of hooks per gen, number of hatch escapes—which do lower the kill rate, etc).

It's just a PR thing to say they release stats consistently.

Same reason why each AMA is relatively useless.

BGP should be nerfed because of pallet saves, not blinds.

And once BGP gets gutted Flashbang + Lightfooted will be complained about next. And then once that's gutted we'll be right back to complaining about flashlights.

Blinds are supposed to threatening. Either learn how to play against them or equip Lightborn which nullifies your entire problem.

I know lol I never said she wasn’t popular, she’s just outdated and people won’t admit it. Slowest killer in the game when holding a hatchet. Slower than Nurse. On TOP of being 110. And having the THIRD LOWEST kill rate in the game at TOP 5% MMR.

Crazy to me the Pyramid head can hit people through walls and moves at 110 while using RoJ, Plague being 110 while holding Corrupt Purge, Artist being 115 and having unbeatable anti loop and so on. I could rant about it forever tbh. She’s not bad by any means but she definitely needed a QoL change for her speed

Why does a killer with a healthy pick-rate and win-rate across all MMR's need buffs?
