  • Depends on what you think is taking the game hostage. If you are bodyblocking in the corner, yes. If he is simply done chasing your character in the ultra safe three tile chain with a 99 Sprint Burst, then no.

  • @rezmax said:

Can we please fix this crap already? In solo q it's almost impossible to escape when people does this perk combo. Basically getting rewarded for doing absolutely nothing...

It amazes me that people think losing chase time or even straight up abandoning chases in order to do the necessary gen kick to activate a perk that then requires you to win ANOTHER chase and get a down is..

    ... "absolutely nothing".

  • @Pulsar said:

Because most people don't have time to do that.

Most players are casual. They play a couple hours a week. They want to log on and have fun, if the game requires them to put in hundreds of hours in order to have a semi-okay experience, they'll just move on.

If the game isn't fun for most of your playerbase, it will die.

This is an issue with the Evil Dead game as well. If you are not max level you are just food for those that are.

ANY game that has fun gated behind a time investment has bad design.

  • The nerve of that guy for wanting to win.

If killers are getting free Insidious by using a snowman, why are survivors not getting free old Iron Will?

If killers are allowed to go completely silent, why aren’t survivors?

Because that would let you immediately hide from any chase.

A killer is shuffling around like a grandmother needing to pee at 2AM. He ain't catching anyone like that. And if a killer managed to shuffle his way ALL the way to the gen you are working on while you watch this white construct slowly inch towards you, you kinda deserve that.

  • Actually, "meta" means MOST EFFECTIVE TACTIC AVAILABLE.

You're supposed to chase every survivor, let them pallet stun you, blind you, t-bag you, hook them twice so they can get points for rescuing and let them all go. Oh, and run hex builds so they can cleanse/bless totems. You're not supposed to give them any kind of adversity and always play to make things fun for them.

Oh, crap! Was I supposed to run hexes to cleanse?! Damn it, I'm behind on my homework. What chapter of the Survivor's Rulebook for Killers are we up to this semester? I'm still doing the practice test for respecting the 4%.

Of course no one's going to cry at a game in public, we're all behind the screen, complaining about other side not playing how we want in DBD.

Just let you know 4K every match is not what the Devs aim for. Same for 100% escape rate. Try hard is pointless.

Okay? That doesn't change the fact that Side A is not accountable to side B's personal Fun Police.

Except the guard is an actual threat regardless of whether that one survivor remains by the hook or not, that survivor is removed from play and cannot continue to protect their survivor.

The Knight requires at least 3 people to safely pull a save if he is there in every situation that he is camping. All he has to do is force you to fake and then you die if you're alone. If there is someone else that person is no longer in the picture and then The Knight now can do the same faking with the other survivor now doing nothing because they have to be chased.

A killer that forces 75% of the team to be occupied when camping is HORRENDOUS killer design, they should have learned better

Hell, Pyramid Head has better Anti-Camp mechanics on hooks and he literally cannot damage you with the Trail.

    That whole scenario is false.

nope. you can't. because you can bet your behind, the knight is nearby as well. also... even if we assume kindred is in play (or a swf on coms)... it's not as easy.

If one person distracts the guard, and a second person goes for the unhook, then whether the knight is there or not has no bearing on it being "the knight". Then it is just a regular camping killer. There is nothing special about the knight's kit once that guard is chasing Jake away. Use normal anti-camping tactics at that point.

Our biggest regret is that it accomplished nothing.

We never accomplished what we set out to do. Performance is still sub-par and there's still no 60 FPS

Didn't the developers technobabble something about microseconds per blah blah during a stream or something?

  • You can literally negate the whole thing by doing a two person save.

  • @C3Tooth said:

    Tbag yes

Head on in Swf yes, in Solo not, it feel great when save a random teammate with it.

Flash blind not, Im pressed if they flash save me for their teammate than mad at them (if no BM)

This is only if they tbag

Body block to save a teammate from hook not. Should teammate just leave them to die especially hard tunneling?

Especially, none of them rob you the ability to play the game.

My point is that fun is subjective.

As for "robbing" you of the ability to play the game, the Killer's job is literally to take you out of the game so you can't play anymore. That's his literal, actual objective. So when people say things like "When I get camped or tunneled I can't play!"

    Yes.

    That is the idea.

Just like I don't cry when I get out in laser tag or dodgeball.

I don't know what "cap" you are referring to but @Pulsar is anything but a joker.

His crusade to improve the performance of consoles resulted in what is probably the single longest thread in the history of this game.

While I agree that a machine that wants end game chat and mouse and keyboard is basically a PC, that doesn't change the fact that adding such things to consoles wouldn't hurt a thing. If someone on a PS4 wants a keyboard, I don't see the problem. Consoles are already notoriously a step behind on FPS and controls for things like Deathslinger aiming compared to PC. Closing that gap is a fair step forward.

Can I ask for the list of "unfun" things survivors do? The only thing I can think of is BM acts toward killers

    Tebagging at the gates.

    Head-On stuns (especially when coordinated)

    Flashlight blinds.

Refusing to leave/go through the hatch.

    Bodyblock swarms.

Now you might say "Well, that is all part of the game!" to which I will reply "I agree", but that doesn't make them FUN.

Sadako's mori playstyle, camping, tunneling, and slugging are also all part of the game. But for some reason those are human rights violations and anything a Survivor does is "just get over it, bro".

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3293149#Comment_3293149

We shouldn't encourage things that are unfun.

Wouldn't it be be far better if Onryo received buffs to the rest of her kit?

I mean yes, her kit is pretty atrocious. And I say that as someone that got her to P3 and every single perk (the HARD way) right after she launched. I was super excited and then let down all at the same time.

But "unfun" is kinda relative. Survivors do all sorts of things that I find incredibly unfun. I simply don't understand how people can continue to uphold this double standard that nothing a Survivor does falls under this "unfun" category, but there's a VERY long list of finger-waggles for killer players.

Game done too fast "OMG survivors are Gen rushing"

Game last forever with 5 Gens left and 2 survivors that hiding "OMG survivors are taking hostage"

Its your turn to pick a lane. You like the game to last long or not?

Survivors want to interact in a match longer (which is not tunneled) doesnt mean hard slugging giving them an interacting match.

I respect the point you are trying to make, but your comparison is deeply flawed.

Immersion and refusing to do gens is literally holding the game hostage as per the developers own words. Those games can go 20, 30, 50 minutes or more.

Slugging is not holding the game hostage as per the developers own words. Those scenarios can last a maximum of four minutes for that person and then they die.

They are "literally" trash? They come in garbage cans? You found them in a landfill?

  • Survivors: "Camping and tunneling is boring. What happened to killers that chase?"

Also Survivors: "OMG this game is so long, why won't he just hook us?"

Pick a lane, dude. You finally have a strat that doesn't send you to oblivion in the first 30 seconds, doesn't camp you, and doesn't go AFK.

That breakable wall should be on EVERY Killer Shack in the game. A good looper can milk that shack for it's three full window vaults every time and there's nothing you can do about it unless you have a killer power to specifically cut it off.

No, that doesn't count as earning it.

Wasting someones time just so you can greed a 4th kill is morally wrong. Your 4th kill is not worth that slugged persons time. Just hook them and send them to their next game.

I have been held hostage, I had a infinite myers slug me until I was close to death and then carry me absolutely refusing to hook me. I wiggle off and he just rinses and repeats not letting me leave the game. That game went on almost 30 minutes like that. That is being held hostage.

Your incentive is to finish the game and move to the next one.

"Wasting someones time just so you can greed a 4th kill is morally wrong"

I hope you hold this same stance when it comes to Survivors opening the exit gate and not leaving instantly.

  • We have reached peak survivor entitlement when losing distance or a chase to stop and kick a gen, then getting into a new chase, going through all the mindgames/pallets/baits involved, and downing a survivor no longer counts as earning it.

    Just... wow.

  • Dead Hard is fine. It's clearly working as intended, because it gets used against me a LOT.

    • Bubba. Just because he scares people, and one good rev of the chainsaw discourages bodyblocking real freaking quick.
    • Dredge. I find his M1 attacks oddly satisfying, his locker teleport is better than Sadako in every way, and nightfall turns some survivors into chickens with their heads cut off.

Take the risk instead of holding the slugged survivor hostage. Stop caring about the 4k. The only time it is acceptable to leave some one slugged is if they have boil over and keep running to a hook deadzone or a sabosquad. Anything else is morally wrong.

Time is something you can lose but never get more of, and for what? an extra kill? You will say its just 4 minutes. However it adds up. Some people may only have time for 3 games and if they get slugged and bled out that can lead to 20+ like what happened to me not that long ago with a myers that refused to hook me and refused to let me bleed out, which is why we crawl away, so you can't pick us up and walk around endlessly trying for that 4k. Now that 3 games is gone down to 1 really crappy game.

I'll never ever slug for the 4k, not even for a challenge. Rather just move on to the next game. BHVR really needs to add a bleed out mechanic so if your health bar depletes enough you can choose to die and gg next.

What is the incentive for the killer not to slug for the 4K? Please explain the benefit to me of allowing the 4th survivor a headstart to search for hatch.

The 2k/2e makes sense, but if a killer is only getting that result or even more kills simply because they have that perk that instantly downs a survivor at the endgame with no work put into that, that's a problem. The 2k/2e should be balanced around the other parts of gameplay in which both sides contribute, and would most likely still be the case even if the perk was reworked. Even from a matter of fairness, the perk isn't fun to play against similar to the current problem people have with Eruption.

It doesn't change the fact that by the developers own design intent the Survivor minded notion that "All gens done means the Killer failed" is a myth.

"Normal gameplay" means ACTUALLY FOLLOWING THE DAMN RULES OF THE GAME. This isnt even "survivor propaganda" or whatever the BS you want to spout to cope with it, if something is breaking the rules, and it's very much bannable, then it's not "normal gameplay", there is no excuse.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/3A86TX7QTFSW/hostage1.png

Again, 3-gen strats are fine on their own. But if you refuse to chase survivors and only protect the generators, and bring slowdown that physically makes it impossible to progress the objective, you are breaking the game rules, and actively taking the game hostage. I believe Mandy also confirmed this a month or two ago, however considering how many comments Mandy has made since Im not going to bother to find it.

And again, it is bannable btw. I would (at sign) Mandy to confirm this but I dont want to bother them atm considering it's 3 CST AM and BHVR is based in Canada.

Nowhere in that screenshot does the phrase "play normally" show up. You tried to cite what I said, then moved the goalposts.

Where did I mention camping and tunneling in this post?

This entire post is about people making matches last 20-30 minutes and refusing to participate in normal gameplay and instead playing Generator Kicking Simulator 2022.

5 minute matches were awful for killer. 20+ minute matches are awful for SoloQ. It's not hard to understand.

I even said I understand WHY killers play like this, they can do what they want, since it's just a game, it's just up to BHVR to remove this because it is a horrible experience. Blame the game, blame the devs, not the players.

"Normal gameplay" is Survivor code for "Play the way I want you to".

Which most of the time is wanting Killers to run at them to give them a chase and run every tile the hardest way possible. And if you happen to down them you MUST pick them up, and if you happen to pick them up you MUST hook them and then GO AWAY.

    This is "just play normally".

You NEVER see a Killer scream for people to "just play normally". It's unironically Survivor propaganda.

  • Franklin's has always been popular and has nothing to do with the change.

  • Killers, stop tunneling.

    Also also, don't camp.

Also also also, don't run Eruption.

Also also also also, don't slug.

Adrenaline is awarded for surviving until the endgame, which is a feat in modern DBD, and surviving until the endgame usually entails doing the objective to get there, so it is awarded in some way. I don't personally think of Sole Survivor as an endgame perk as much as it is a survival utility perk.

I got the earning aspect of endgame perks from every other endgame killer perk.

For example, Remember Me rewards the killer for basically downing the obsession, a couple times before engame, Terminus rewards having survivors injured before endgame, NWO rewards hooking individual survivors before endgame, Rancor rewards keeping the obsession alive and targeting others before endgame, but NOED gives the strongest effect out of all of them for having a singular dull totem alive, which isn't very challenging and relies on the survivors' input more than the killer's.

Basically, I just feel that NOED rewards the killer for doing poorly in its current state compared to other endgame perks and I do not feel it is fair for survivors as well.

Going to end game is not a sign of poor Killer performance when the devs have flat out said a 2K/2E is the desired result, meaning the doors are EXPECTED to get opened.

  • Why do we need 12 threads on this? Why is this not one mega-thread?

And you're cherry picking your definitions and framing to call people weak for how their brain is structured. That's just being rude.

... also, ADHD's not even a super extreme outlier? It's only one possible thing that affects impulse control, and to a greater or less extent, but the prevalence in adults is estimated at around 4%. That's at least one person in every moderately crowded room. It and other conditions are prevalent enough to make this a completely viable business tactic.

Aside from deciding that everyone with any mental illness impairing their impulse control is weak, that is completely missing the point that's made.

BHVR is changing its sales tactics not to target the widest possible customer base, it's going the same limited-time-only-exclusive-deal-real-money-now tactic that mobile games use to push content. It doesn't work on most people, and you lose out on sales from a lot of people because of the exclusivity. But, the people it's targeting towards make up for it in volume.

It's a model that exists to squeeze as much money from a small group as possible, a group that is disproportionately weighted towards mental illness that is susceptible to this.

And what really makes it a scummy business practice is that this hasn't been DbD's model for the past 6 years. So, people who weren't being targeted by this game like they are by so many others are now being preyed on by BHVR. That's why it's dodgy. That's why people are complaining.

it's not that far off saying that pensioners starting to show signs of dementia who get scammed of all their savings by high-pressure sales and con artists are at fault. You're blaming the targets for being picked.

(Also, I don't even buy cosmetics; it doesn't directly affect me. I just hate the tactic for these reasons.)

You are making it sound like this is a willfully evil, mustache-twirling act. And not that, you know, seasonal and limited time items haven't been a thing forever.

LOTS of things in life are limited time only.

As for the weak part.... I refer you to definition 2 of a very easy google search:

"liable to break or give way under pressure; easily damaged."

I'd say crumbling and NEEDING to purchase something falls neatly under that definition. Things do not become inapplicable because someone thinks they are mean or impolite.

In regards to your pensioner example, those people really should be conserved if they are that bad off... and likewise anyone that falls under this extreme outlier example of ADHD.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3286674#Comment_3286674

The reason that you're wrong about it just being 'that simple' is because you are, like way too many people, fixated on the what is being sold. Doesn't matter if it's digital pictures, random seasonal food items, clothes on sale, or limited edition whatevers; it's preying on a particular type of person. Digital sales are actually worse, because it's 100% artificial scarcity: once the item is created, there's never a cost to having it available indefinitely.

And the counterargument of 'but it doesn't work on me' is kind of sad, because it means you're just dismissing both the experiences of anyone else and any knowledge of marketing.

If you are so weak that you are willing to starve and/or fail to pay rent then you have problems deeper than trying to fault a video game company over.

You've taken this argument to such an extreme that it's ceased to be logical, but nevertheless, at that point it's substantially closer to a failing in the greater systems of government and late stage capitalism as a whole than the fault of a single company creating an advertisement, because if they were able to afford to eat then this situation wouldn't arise.

Unlike a digital skin, which is a luxury good, food and other such things necessary for survival are, well, necessities, and in the mixed economy many countries claim to have it's then the role of the government to supply those necessities to those who don't have them.

And yet fomo works on these digital goods because it convinces those with poor impulse control that they need it, tricking their brain into believing that that is the ultimate necessity over any other including food, water, and shelter, which are the 3 key stones to survival.

So, again, you've taken the argument well beyond it's logical extreme, and that's why your argument therefore doesn't work in comparison.

I stopped reading at "late stage capitalism". The rest of that paragraph just turned into socialist drivel.

Which is why teabagging is WORSE.

Camping and tunneling further an objective.

Teabagging is being a jerk for no reason EXCEPT to be a jerk.
