I said it in another thread but these things get buried so quickly that I'm just gonna repeat it...
The issue is there are two kinds of SWF groups
- The group of friends who want to play together
- The SWAT Team
Group 1 is great to play with. They're fun; they get to have a good time with their friends while I as the killer get to go through my normal Killer Duties and stab people
Group 2 is the problem. While this may be anecdotal evidence, I have found that the SWAT Team is usually not only damn impossible to beat since they are in constant communication with each other but they're always the biggest toxic ######### to play again. If there is a cheap tactic, they'll use it and if they get any chance at all to mock the killer, they will 1000% take it.
The biggest issue that Group 2 causes though is that these are the groups killers remember and these are the groups that make killers quit the game because they're not only frustrating to play from a game-play standpoint, they always seem to make sure to rub it in your face and make the experience as awful as humanly possible.
The problem is that I don't know how you could solve Group 2 without directly hurting Group 1. If Group 1 starts getting hammered and frustrated by nerfs, they're gonna quit and now you just lost four players from your player pool. If you just ignore Group 2 though, Killers are eventually just going to say "F*#$ this S$1* I'm out" and now no one has anyone to play against as your Killer pool Yeets out.
I do not envy the position that the DBD team is in here
The answer is simple: balance the game around top level play

Not once did I ever say I deserved to be a red rank killer. But I'm not that far off, and I know exactly what red rank killers are like (I am a red rank survivor by trade who has gone against countless rank 1 killers). And yes, I'm aware that Corrupt is very good especially in place of the old Ruin. I just don't have it unlocked as a teachable yet. Although I'd argue Corrupt isn't the best since the survivors either hide and wait it out (I've had this happen a lot as Plague) or split up and do different gens and then the same issue arises.
Like I said before, I am fully aware that the killers I play for most of my games aren't exactly 'top tier', it's just very hard to have any sort of gen pressure in the early game without old Ruin on a vast majority of the killers. Outside of Nurse, Spirit, and Billy, who exactly can pressure gens before 2 of them are popped? Playing any sort of 'set-up' killer means losing 1-2 gens at the start of the game (Trapper, Hag, Demo) and the survivors can easily escape from there by juggling hook stages and having most pallets left with only 3 gens to do. Plus, I shouldn't be forced to play the select few killers who are top tier in order for the game to be balanced and fun.
Overall I think a lot of the killers could do with some at least minor buffs (Clown comes to mind first).
Dude the devs aren't going to start buffing killers because matchmaking is giving you a hard time.

I mean, I 100% understand, why they have done it and RNG is a big factor of it. Getting like 5 Skill Checks in 10 seconds is now only 4 seconds Bonus instead of 8 seconds, totally understandable.
But going for great Skill Checks was probably the most interesting thing on doing Gens. And they are not worth it anymore, because it (almost) only results in more BPs. And Objective is not a Category where it is unlikely to max the BPs out anyway.
(The change was good for the game, dont get me wrong. So "nonsense" was the wrong word for it. But I dislike it, mainly because it is not worth to go for Great Skill Checks anymore)
I like that the bonus bp means I have to spend less time on gens to max my objective. If you don't think going for Greats is worth it anymore that's your opinion, and I respect it.

When I'm survivor, I do totems when I see them. When I'm killer, I slug people that were recently on the hook. The amount of times I actually get hit by NOED or DS are incredibly low. Both are entirely valid responses to these perks.
Usually I only get hit with NOED on maps like Hawkins where it's hard to find all the totems or in situations where the killer just camps or tunnels really hard so we just rush gens and leave. Even then, there is a low chance that I, specifically, am the one hit with NOED and then there is a pretty high chance we find the totem and destroy it before they even get the hook on the guy. You don't even need to do all the totems sometimes, just note where they are so you can quickly check them for NOED when the last gen pops. It's more risky but saves a lot of time.
And I usually get hit with DS because I purposely ate it. 95% of the time I let them DS me because 1) it's so early that it's a waste, 2) I'm Spirit or Nurse or in a good position where I'm positive I can catch them right away, or 3) the game is basically over even if they DS me. It's very rare that I get hit with DS and didn't expect it, usually that only happens when there are multiple of the same survivor and I just lose track.
Getting hit by either perk is almost entirely the fault of the opposing player. It's in you control to avoid them both.
So....
Do bones. Just slug. If that tilts you then get better at the game.
I'm sure your personal experience is basis on which we can all evaluate game health. You are right that the perks only activate if you choose.

Totem Counter: Should be put into Small Game.
Or just another idea: Once ALL totems are cleansed, a loud notification is played for everyone.
Chase indicator: 0 problems with that, even though it takes a bit of the thrill out of the game. If there is a stealth killer and I know someone is getting chased, I can stop caring about my surroundings. But I see that SWF can completely negate that fact, so sure why not.
Camping indicator: Kindred basekit and problem solved.
Hook coordination: I don't know, what you mean. How many times a survivor has been hooked?
Swf can designate teammates to go save. Solos should have a similar system.

Yes, mechanically it is the same as SoloQ hence why if Solo was underpowered, SWF wouldn't shift it drastically in the opposite direction. Easier for sure but the success of an SWF still hinges on survivors being decently strong at base.
That's why I don't think swf is OP. It's just the current easiest way to expose survivors' true potential.
-
I think your problem is matchmaking. It seems like you do just fine with survivors of your rank but struggle, especially in chase, against higher ranked survivors.
-
@Aven_Fallen said:
Well, Stake Out basically does the same as before.
But this 1% Bonus instead of 2% for Great Skill Checks is nonsense. Makes Gens even more boring now.
It's literally the smallest gen speed nerf they could have possibly done and it also makes trials less RNG based and you dislike it? Is the extra 5 or so seconds on the gen really that bad?
-
@LordCyphre said:
SWF could not be OP if solos were UP. Sure, communication to share information and coordinate for efficiency and to achieve the same goal gives an advantage but that wouldn't matter much if the core mechanics had survivors be very weak/UP.
4 decent solos who understand the game well enough can make the killer sweat a lot and have a good chance of winning. 4 buffoons teaming up but messing up left and right won't have an easy game vs a decent killer just because they are SWF.
People not playing the objective and making questionable decisions is usually why things go downhill fast whenever I play solo. That's not a balancing issue though. Time is on the survivors side at the start of the match and tools for survival are plentiful. People just need to learn how to utilize them well.
4 survivors who have "gotten gud" are strong, SWF just enables them to utilize their strength beyond what's possible in soloQ.
Actually swf is not mechanically stronger than solo, it's just easier.
-
@Raptorrotas said:
Solo ias the default game, so I'd say swf is stronger than solo, and comms are overpowered.
To negate the advantage of comms, we cxant just info into the UI or aura reading ontop the survivors. Comms do not magically give info to swf, one swf still needs to rind out stuff and relay it to the others. We shouldnt buff solo by stuffing more info into their face,but allow them to relay some info to the other survivors. A quick message or ping system might be suited for this.
I might be repeating myself, but giving solo( and thus swf too) more aura reading, spoonfed info or hud stuff will NOT close the solo-swf gap.
I think, no...I know you're incorrect. This hud info is all stuff swf already knows and can use. Giving it to solos doesn't affect swf because they already have it.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
Solos are underpowered. However, having every single match in this casual game be a sweat fest as killer, when survivor isn't very stressful at all, even solo, doesn't sound like fun to me.
Killers will always be adjusted with every change obviously.
-
@Xzan said:
Solo needs some QoL buffs. But the problem is, everytime you buff solo survivors, you buff SWF, too. So for every solo buff, there needs to be a killer buff somehow.
Duo-Swfs are fine.
It's the 3 or 4 man groups that (if they are halfway decent) that will shift the balance into their favor.
A totem counter wouldn't buff swf. A chase indicator wouldn't either. A camping indicator and a hook coordination system wouldn't either. Do you disagree?
-
@Zeidoktor said:
Serious Question: How exactly was it gutted? Great Skill Checks in general were dropped from 2% to 1%, and Stake Out puts that extra percent right back. It seems like it does exactly the same thing it did before, just with an added effect to keep it that way.
Plus, as noted, it sounds like you get the extra percent for any Great Skill Check? If correct, I find that good to know because I'd assumed the extra percent only went towards Greats scored with tokens.
Also, is 1% either way really that big a difference? Seems negligible on paper.
1% adds up as the trial goes on.
-
Killers can't have skill checks, survivors can't have bloodlust.
-
@Huff said:
I'm probably gonna get hate for this, but I think mostly solo survivor is just UP. I'm not saying there's no advantage to SWF but I definitely feel like there's a lot of information given that people just choose not to pay attention to. Games have always been easier with comms, and DbD is no exception. Considering all this, I feel like solo needs to be buffed more than SWF needs to be nerfed. I really don't like the idea of punishing people just for grouping up. To me, it just seems like a more simple solution to do things like add a totem counter, or make Kindred base kit, or whatever (not that I advocate for any of these things specifically, just ideas like these.) Then neither solos nor SWFs have to feel too punished, and maybe killers could get just a very slight buff to counteract the overall increase in survivor strength from the solo buffs.
That's reasonable, nerfing things tends to cause outrage. Releasing all of these buffs simultaneously would probably be well-received.

That just proves Ghostface is a bad killer by your own words. If you can only use a fraction of the killer power than really you should play someone else. Either way I do know people on console and PC who can stalk successfully at red rank. Or you can act like WaffleYumboy who basically said "just hide better".
Oof I was looking forward to some in-depth feedback but it appears you just want to "disrespect" me. Fair enough.
Fun fact: Survivors can't reveal GF if they don't see him. In addition to that, dedicated servers can also cause survivors to struggle to reveal him. I think you are overestimating the negative impact of this jank.

Sorry your wrong no one has to do a gen or be productive for a key. The only thing a key requires is for you to outlast anyone else. The only thing correct is the hatch part and even then play the game enough you get a feeling for where they spawn or you can use a perk. Keys are about as skillless as you can get.
It's like the old days when the game started. Occasionally the killer was able to move first and could speed stalk enough to tombstone someone really quickly because everyone spawned super close.
If you outlast everyone hatch already opens

Actually I dislike you. I think your one of the most toxic people on this forum. You debate with people until you realize they won't agree or are in the right than proceed to use off color comments to end the disagreement while trying to come out ahead. Either that or insult them to make whatever they say sound trivial.
I remember when you were new to the forum and had an even worse mentality.

Sorry I was meaning to sound less serious. I was going for the "casuals think Pig is strong" gag. You're free to discuss with whomever, whether or not it makes a difference. On a serious note, GF is the strongest stealth killer because he can one shot and attack from stealth.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/149365/why-do-killers-like-to-1-hook-mori
Does it really matter anymore? You can Mori on last hook and people will complain. It's a game you brought play it the way you want and assume others will too. If keys and Moris were removed I think the game would be better functioning. Both of them are arguably broken by short cutting the objective and shortening the match.
Key requires no skill or even doing anything, but at least the killer has to down a survivor and get them to a hook.
Technically keys require the survivor team to complete generators and the individual survivor has to find hatch.

I've always felt like there should be more incentive to break bones than just to disable NOED or activate Inner Strength. Some kind of mechanic where, the more totems that are destroyed, the more powerful the survivors get in some way. Something that makes survivors want to look for and cleanse totems to improve their odds for escaping.
I always liked the idea of killers breaking pallets and gens faster per dull totem standing

Honestly if Billy is truely the epitome of balance than almost every other killer needs significant reworks to boost the viability as killers. Billy is definitely more then a cut above balanced.
Ghostface is still imho one of the worst killer's due to his recharge rate and janky reveal. If I'm forced to have to run addons or use specific addons to make a killer viable. That tells me the killer is in fact far from balanced or viable.
I play GF w/o add-ons usually. The trick is to hide so survivors don't reveal you.

New DS probably came from here.

He's my go to up there with Billy. He's fun and easy.

It could be someone who just played a lot of trapper, for example. They'd only need to go through 10 bloodweb to get those perks, too. Start with agitation and brutal T1, get deerstalker t3 (3 webs), 2 tiers of agitation (2 webs), t3 of spies (3 webs) and 2 tiers of brutal (2 webs). 6+4, 10 webs. Whilst unlikely you don't actually need to play very long to have such a loadout.
