Killer main here, just realized how some of the Tome challenges can cultivate a bit of a...unfun play style for set periods of time while people try to complete the various challenges. Curious to see what other people think. Please try to be respectful to each other in the comments :)

Funny you mention that one.... had to contend with that one today too...

    Nope.png

    I went the Scenic route.

  • Yeah IDK. I think one of the Devs lost to some Rank 1 Nurse running a meme build or something and got salty.

  • Been having games like that today.

Jokes on them, I'm practicing Nurse. I couldn't care less how fast they do gens. I'm practicing my blinking.

  • It's a perk that's heavily overrun. I just wish they'd apply the same logic for survivors. Getting really tired of every single one running DS, UB, BT an DH

  • @AetherBytes said:

I went up against a freddy who looped me around a gen. The looping degraded to a point where he'd kick the gen and I'd immediately tap it in front of him and he'd try to grab me, fail, and miss the swing as well. He'd kick it again and I'd immediately tapped it again. I did it just cause it was wasting a lot more time then him actually chasing me would, and honestly was a lot more fun then vaulting windows.

Do you guys have any such stories?

That's not really toxic IMHO... that's just taking advantage of really bad play.

As far as toxic goes, I'm never really toxic first. If a Survivor gets a little cocky and decides to teabag, point or clicky clicky, I'll always give them an M1 or two on Hook. Just to let them know I enjoyed hooking them a little more than usual.

  • Ranking matters to some extent, but it's far less precise than a formal MMR system (in theory). The odds of rank 1-10 players being better than rank 11-20 is better, for sure.

Basically anyone from Rank 1-17 could be a good player.

Basically anyone from Rank 1-17 could be a pretty flawed (or just chill) player.

That's not to say everyone Rank 18-20 is BAD. Some have watched a lot of Youtube videos and will steamroll other similiar ranked players.

Basically anyone from Rank 1-20 could be playing a new survivor or a new killer (especially killer) with few or no perks and crap addons and be a complete waste of a player slot.

    That's what's meant by "Rank doesn't matter."

...that as a key addict, I have not used one single key in my matches since I joined the forums and saw how much it pains you. You're welcome.

It's okay my dearie. Let me share a tale with you.

Twas a fine day for the Hag. Two dead, a mere 1 generator left. Yet, as I pondered the location for my next hex... BEHOLD... I discovered two survivors very close to each other. Neither were injured. Curious. I crept closer with my diminished terror radius and LO! I saw one with a key over the hatch.

"NGGGGGGHH!!!" I screeched as I held my keyboard over my head and swung it back and forth like Bubba.

I lunged, but not in time - the survivor without the key was through the hatch.

Despair sunk in. I would be forced to deal with a 2 kill game. Despite playing well. Despite putting my all into giving the Entity pleasure.

    I was a sad Hag.

But then I discovered a SHOCK.

Someone was on the ground in front of me.

    The one with the key.

So surprised was he, he forgot to crawl toward the hatch!

    I picked him up.

    I hooked him.

I forgot... I was running Devour Hope. I had 3 tokens.

Twas my hope came back, the strapping young Dwights hope devoured.

For he brought the key... merely to be betrayed by another, and the one who ate well was me!

So you see dearie, would have not but a like for you if some young fool did not bring a key.

But because of it, I have a like... and a tale to spin.

So, dear Survivor, bring your key! I shall bring my Mori.

    And then, fate shall see!

Wraith without addons is fairly trash - Windstorm (Even the yellow one) + his other addons like Iris Coxcomb Clapper (Silent Bell) and "All Seeing" - Blood (Aura within 12 meters while stealthed)" make him arguebly a stronger killer than Trapper who is running Iridescent or Honing Stone + Blood Coil. Both are far too addon dependent and base Trapper without a brown bag is just an eyesore having to shuffle 1 trap at a time across the map wasting minutes just to setup anything at the start... Can't even lock down a loop with a single trap in many cases either (usually requiring 2 if you have to zone them to the bad side first so they can't just transfer tiles).

Basically what @DaKnight said where Brown bag should be base kit and his other bag addons are adjusted accordingly. @Mister_xD also brings up something I brought up in other threads about Trapper buffs about reworking how Luck works, Bear traps and Pig's Reverse Bear Traps that all should just have set values so the killer (AND survivors) can make informed decisions rather than being a dice roll. Overall his gameplay is fairly strong lategate similar to Hag and both have counter play in having people dedicated to "Harass" the killer rather than letting him get to critical mass on his "web"... Trapper just needs direct quality of life changes to make him at least average in more scenarios.

Eh, sorry for the shitpost. I was just salty after trying and failing to get my Wraith daily... spectacularly. Had to kill someone with my own hand. Forget that, couldn't even hook someone with my own hand... lol.

Wraith may be an underpowered killer - it doesn't help I'm also pure trash with him.

Trapper is fun to play - great killer for baby killers to play vs. baby survivors, but he just hasn't aged well in the meta. At all. And it's hard to buff him without making him very frustrating to play against at low ranks. Best I can think of is allowing him to start with the ability to carry 1 more trap (like having the bag)... OR having all his traps start closer to the center of the map, so he doesn't have to spend like 45 seconds going into a dead area if he wants to collect a trap.

Wraith and Trapper both need a mechanics update IMHO.

  • Yep. Having a blast.

If your feeling down as killer...

1.) Play an S or A Tier Killer.

2.) Slot a Mori and take out your frustrations.

And if you've just played a match vs. toxic survivors, why not both? :D

  • Trapper is better than Wraith. Wraith is unmitigated trash.

  • I think their goal is noble - they want you to actually use his power more rather than in just 1-2 circumstances.

Imagine of Huntress and Deathslinger were like this, where you have this big telegraphed attack that just kicks you in the nuts if you missed it. Huntress may have a telegraphed attack, but if you miss, it's not a big deal... whereas Deathslinger, if you miss, yeah it's kinda a big deal... but you literally have as little telegraph as you want to have with it, so if you miss, it's because you need to git gud.

PH, as is, basically can't use his power except in very specific circumstances - IE: windows/pallets - because he has to telegraph it and it's really easy to dodge otherwise. I think it's a good direction for him.

  • I do main killer, so I feel the salt a little bit on this one. That being said, I do think Pop was very overrepresented. You basically run Pop or you run Ruin for one of your perks. If you don't run one or the other, you're doing it wrong.

Part of the issue with Pop, too, is Survivors can't really play around it either.

Also, I'll just level with you - I don't think UB/DS is OP. You're basically investing two perks to possibly undo one single error, allowing yourself to recover from being downed 1 minute after you're hooked. Honestly, I just accept trades now or slug after first hook. Go for the guy doing the unhook, hook him. Hell, that way, if the two of them are running Borrowed Time/DS/UB... they effectively got no benefit.

When I play survivor, I would just rather run information perks, so I can avoid being put in a situation where you need those. I usually just facecamp gens and leave the heroics to the other 2 members of the team... because they always try, I feel.

Besides, let's just be clear, if you really want to counter UB/DS, you absolutely can. Just run Mori. lol. "Oh, you want me to pick you up after I hooked you once? Cute. *Murders you awfully.* DS This."

  • That's probably fair, though from what I've seen of the Entity, it still is a malevolent, self-serving being who ultimately gets fed by those who do evil in his name... although that's a hugely viable end game for it: drive the survivors so mad and crazy, THEN flip the tables on them... let the survivors get revenge... to create a cycle of hatred that's like a self-sustaining battery.

    That's actually pretty cool.

  • @CalamityJane said:

Can I just add to this that at this point, Spark of Madness should be free on PC.

It's really ######### to get new friends into the game and be like "hey there's a perk that's really great for when you're learning BUT you need to spend 10 bucks to get it!"

There's enough DLC for people to pump money into, the survivor with training wheels doesn't need ot be one of them.

This... or at very least, make Feng free on PC. If you really want, you can throw Nea or some other base survivor with a very niche, newbie unfriendly kit behind a pay wall. But if Feng is designed to be the good newbie survivor, you can't stick her behind DLC no one's gonna buy until they, y'know, PLAY the game a bit first.

  • I gotta admit, of all the things that can be picked on, one thing I find silly is attaching an admitted "newbie" perk like Technician to a survivor you can't get in the base game. How's a new player going to even get access to this perk? Do you think new players just buy all the chapters before actually, y'know, playing the game?

By the time they decide to buy Feng, I'd think they can hit enough Skill Checks to make this perk somewhat obsolete.

You might want to just make Feng free if you're looking at her to be someone new players play. Throw more niche survivors with niche perks like Nea if you want newer players to still have to deal with the same paywall.

  • I suspect it's different folks that design killers/survivors/perks than the ones who would make game/engine optimizations - it's never gonna be an either/or thing. I think the problem is, this games code is so spaghetti at this point, even slight changes to improve one thing hurt 5 other things... and suddenly make Freddy walk on his head.

Punish stupid mistakes and graciously take a trade, still putting the survivors in a bad position, or worst comes to worse, just slug the recently unhooked.

Sure. As soon as Survivors stop working on a gen at 90% to politely and graciously point at it, encouraging me to kick it. I'm still in a bad position, after all, with a nearly finished gen nearby!

  • Anyone who has ever had a good game of killer has seen this. The survivor who thinks they're hot **** because they figured out which button drops a pallet, probably too soon to even stun you... but they still figure that's worthy of a point/tea bag... then you get a hit, then you get another. Hits start turning to hooks... they seem to forget which button tea bags as they get more and more sweaty... but it just gets easier as they lose their cool. All you need to do to fake them out is turn around once and hide your red light and they run around the corner and give you a hug... then disconnect.

Outside of personal milestones, nothing more satisfying in this game than making a cocky person ragequit.

  • Actually just started playing a couple of months ago.

    My favorite stand-out moments:

    Survivor:

Doing my first calculated dangerous unhook, killer around 2 corners corner a few meters away - I run to the pallot between us and pallot stun him, allowing me and the unhookie to escape.

Going back for someone on hook by myself during end game collapse, over the course of 2 minutes, successfully unhooking them and body blocking a hit meant for them, allowing us both to get out.

    Killer:

My first kill. When I first joined, MMR was all screwed up - I was a rank 20 playing against Red Survivors. I was Trapper and got bullied all game, didn't get a single hit, they ran circles around me, teabagged me, blinded me, disarmed all my traps, taunted me... and assumed I didn't leave a trap in the grass to the right of the gate. Turns out, it really does only take one mistake sometimes. Even I was good enough to hit a Rank 2 stuck in a trap.

The first game I won as Hag when it all clicked for me. When I got how I should be using the Traps, where they should be, how to stop worrying about chasing and just love the Hex. The first of many in a row that night as I ranked up in a blaze from 17 to 13.

When I first started Deathslinger, barely could tell which end of the gun shot, but after a horrible game when I didn't hook anyone, I got a lucky shot on a teabagging Dwight in the exit gate. Someone forgot I was running Noed. 1 kill game. :D

Are you kidding? That would be disgusting if some players were given free reign to disconnect while the plebs got the penalties. Especially when you consider the previous drama about an unnamed Fog Whisperer who used to disconnect to derank, or another Fog Whisperer who is currently involved in some drama and disconnects when their ego is at stake and is known to troll other players to bait disconnects.

It wasn't me who suggested all Fog Whisperers - I'm just talking, like, the 10 biggest streamers on their main accounts... so folks couldn't DDOS them and force penalties. It would be pretty obvious of those streamers started abusing it... and no one's gonna bother DDOSing the 11th ranked streamer or lower.

  • @Zender said:

I agree with @Moundshroud but I'm also a big believer that just because hackers targeted 0.00043% of the DbD community does not mean we should remove the penalty.

GIve people an inch they take a mile.

This. I mean, how hard would it be to just make sure the top Streamers can't be penalized this way, anyway? I seriously doubt Tru or Otz would be like: "I can now DC from matches with impunity unlike everyone else?! Let's do that every game!"

  • @BigTimeGamer said:

if you get <3k as spirit i have serious questions as to how it happened, she really isnt that hard to play lol

If you don't know what you're doing, it's pretty easy to suck at Spirit.

  • Of those? Just play the one you have the most fun with. None of them are tied to "essential" perks, IMHO.

TBH, I only perks I think might be considered "Tier S" level are Save the Best for Last, Hex: Ruin, Pop Goes the Weasel, BBQ & Chili and Corrupt Int. Maybe Undying and Noed too.

  • I would never opt out, especially when playing Killer on PC.

I love it when survivors run the "Controller" Perk. It's like having an offering that just periodically kicks you in the nuts.

  • Best Mither is No Mither.

    No Mither At All.

  • Nice.

Welp its better than my solution: impliment "KWF".

Allow 4 players to queue as 1 killer - THEY ALL GET TO CONTROL HIM. The power of 4 minds, harnessed by 1 body. What could possibly go wrong?

  • BTW: Quick addition I just realized -

You're playing Billy on an Indoor Map. I don't judge anything you needed to do under the circumstances. :)

  • "Trapper make Survivor Carousel!"

There has to be an achievement for that, doesn't there?

I'd like to think there is.

  • @xerav said:

Hard to call a game scary when the Killer and a survivor runs a 4m circle loop for 1min. Also Spine Chill spoils all the fun on stealth killers too

Spine Chill should not function, or at very least, have a range limitation vs. Stealth Killers while they're stealthed. No idea why that isn't a thing yet.

  • It's killer dependent, I think. With Hag, it's practically impossible to tunnel - if you do, you're playing her terribly and will probably lose every game - and it's equally stupid to camp.

And while you can slug, it's pretty silly to as you're wholly dependent on survivors doing bold actions to be able to hit anyone. You slug against players who know how to play against you, they'll just slow things down a bit, do some safe gens... hide out and wait for their friends to crawl out to the sides of the map where it's safe.

As Hag, you always want to be hooking. You want to constantly be making the survivors go places they don't want to - slugging does the opposite. It makes them stay in places they know is safe and play very carefully. They know they have a very long time to pick up fallen survivors, so they don't have to rush things. Hooking is what puts actual time pressure on them.

  • Killer main here. Meh. I feel a lot of survivors call "camping" when you don't allow them to always unhook other survivors with impunity.

Let's break it down: Initially you hook and run almost half the map away, then you're coming back, but you're doing it because you're chasing a survivor (fair play), you then refuse to let him pull you to a dead part of the map - which he's clearly trying to bait you into chasing him to...

You gave ample opportunity for a safe unhook - not your fault 2 others were too busy doing other things to take advantage.

I would say you only start questionably camping at the 35 second mark, when you keep face checking the hook. But then you downed another survivor but didn't slug - you went for a 2nd hook, again, giving ample opportunity for the other 2 to secure the unhook on the first. They didn't.

I'd say what you did here was fine. Probably a bit more "grey area" than I tend to play, but if "camping" got called, I'd be like: "######### please. I'll show you camping if I see you next game."

Yep, Because having sympathy for other humans is just too complex for some people to handle. I get it.

I have sympathy. That's why I'm sitting on dozens of Moris, more than most of my other add-ons I think. I don't run them often, but once in awhile, I will use all the toys at my disposal for a quick and dirty win when I'm feeling a little frustrated. Deal with it.

Having been on the receiving end of "Sorry, had to take my frustrations out on you after getting wrecked last game." many many times, I can say it's totally awesome being used as killers emotional punching bags despite having done nothing to earn such behavior.

I get that. I don't apologize for it. That's just condescending and rude. It just is what it is, and all you'll get from me is a GG after it.

Candidly, you're just getting a small taste of the killer life for that game when you're matched up against Survivors in SWF running meta builds. I don't have sympathy for you - suck it up. Next game will be better for you.

  • I'm just picturing 2 survivors blasting away at the killer.

Trapper: "Heh heh, ur loud boommaker tickles."

3rd Survivor: "Hold on, I got this..."

*whips out a Flashlight, turns it on*

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1640084#Comment_1640084

Well, that sounds kind of mean though. To recover from a bad match as killer, you try to be toxic and make a new group of survivors who probably aren't toxic rage-quit? Did you mean that you switch to your favorite killer and try some sort of wacky build that may not be good but is fun? Sorry, but the way you wrote this comment was a bit confusing and you probably didn't mean exactly what you said...I hope. Also, yes tbaging and pointing are things that I also find a little annoying sometimes, just know that it helps you more than it is fun for them because they get less distance from you.

You don't have to be toxic, but yes, running your best killer with you best build and best add-ons... + an Ebony Mori should basically guarantee a 4K if you slug on the last 2 survivors (unless they have a key) and don't play too badly. Also, many survivors will view burning a Mori as toxic no matter what (along with 500 other rules they have for killers - see the Parody videos), so the only way to "not be toxic" is to never use them.

Speaking from experience, it's therapeutic to do a "No Mercy" game as killer from time to time. Otherwise, you can easily get beaten down by bad matchmaking and toxic survivors and wanna quit the game.

  • Baby Killer: "This will be fun! I hope I can give a survivor hatch!"

Baby Killer After First Game: "... they danced around me with flashlights, teabagged me a dozen times... and told me I should kill myself after game."

Baby Killer After Playing Enough Games to Get A Level 50 Killer: "I measure how good my day is going by how many Ebony Moris I have..."

  • OP, I've honestly never heard of anything happening like that - you got a 1 in 10000 dose of bad luck there.

Yes, the community is toxic to some extent - no, they shouldn't do anything drastic about it other than maybe pay some attention to the new/returning player experience. You should be able to pick one survivor and one killer start with 4 perks slots, a good smattering of greens and yellows, and a healthy amount of add-ons, priority given to the noob friendly ones. Also, you should get more blood points per match to get developed until you've reached a certain reasonable total amount. The new player experience is really bad in this game and I'm sure it drives a lot of people off when really small changes could help.

I would rather they spend their development dollars developing the game rather than policing or coming up with systems to police the playerbase or actively try to make it smaller by punishing players.

  • IMHO: "Toxic Survivor" is just a redundant term. You can just say "Survivor". :)

Jokes aside, the survivors that stand out are actually the decent ones. Good players who are good sports. Toxic players are just so common, if you play Killer even casually, they stop bothering you as much. You just note the toxic ones and, in a 50/50 situation, go for them.

Today had a losing game as Trapper. I was running Noed, so I downed 2 at the exit gate. I remembered one pointed/tbagged... the other was fine... so made my choice. May have only gotten 1 kill that game, but it woulda been the one I'd choose of the 4.

But when you inevitably get frustrated as killer, take a few minutes, calm down, come back - go to your strongest killer, slot very strong add-ons, slot Mori, and have a wank-off game. Try to make 2 or more DC. I find nothing cures "toxic blues" more than a brutal survivor game.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

*Insert counter-"argument" about DS + Unbreakable, possibly with Dead hard + BT / Adrenaline, and then say "Killers finally have a chance" and then assume that every survivor is running this build, also don't forget to complain about SWF"

    Basically this.

Rumor has it 90% of perks suck. 5% are viable, 5% are very strong. Survivors wanna Survive, Killers wanna Kill. Most don't use meme builds, so you see the limited effective combos both sides have get used a lot.

Did some popular survivor main streamer tell everyone to throw the game against Deathslinger or am i missing something?

This is what i call nursing a killer as this is what survivors were doing to nurse to get her nerfed (and succeeded) literally running to her and just farming each other in front of her for points and all being killed or quitting.

Almost every game today someone has quit the second they see me or they don't bother doing gens and just farm. The few times this didn't happen was against swf sweat squads that i lost against because they did gens and just treated it like a normal game.

Nobody uses D-slinger in the tournament because he is weak, so why the sudden salt fest?

As a personal anecdote, I'm just starting to learn Deathslinger (he's level 4)... and in a game where I got 1 single hook before they threw the gates, I was able to shoot an injured exit gate teabagger from far away, pull them out, and hook them. It lead to a 3 minute grabass game where I was able to farm brutality as they tried unhooking, but couldn't get away without me putting someone on hook... and I wound up getting a kill in a game that I wouldn't have unless they were cocky and toxic. ;)

If his kill stats are inflated, it's gotta be for reasons like this - he's the only killer who can really punish unsportsmanlike behavior. :D

  • Why did they get rid of DC penalties, anyway? I've been in a situation where a RL emergency comes up and I had to, but that's happened once in like 150 games. It seems pretty easy to give grace to those who have genuine issues and someone who DCs every other game around the time they get hit by a killer.
