Hang in there, it does get better. A lot of loops have very specific counters that you only learn by watching other killers on youtube or through experience. I'd recommend playing survivor for a bit if you get tired of killer. Being a good survivor makes you a better killer and vice versa.

My plan was the rank up 1 for 1 as Killer and Survivor - unfortunately, it's even worse on Survivor. I get thrown into games vs. Rank 1-4 Killers with 3 other Rank 1-5 survivors. Killer goes on to dominate 75% of the time.

At least as Killer, the 4 survivors mostly seem to have a good time regardless. Dominating a potato is still fun in its own way - speaking from experience in other games. As a Survivor, I make the other 3 players on my team have a miserable time... and not only don't have fun but feel bad after.

I might just stick to watching this game rather than playing it, at least until they fix whatever is going on.

My plan is/was to play as one until Rank up, then switch to the other. Figure that's the way I can be the best player I can.

Problem is, Survivor, all I do is get pitted against Rank 1-4 killers who 75% of the time go on to get perfect games... at least as Killer, I'm fairly certain the Survivors had fun schooling my potato ass.

As Survivor? I screw up the game for the other 3 and not only don't have fun, I feel bad.

  • New player playing killer. Thought after 5 games, I was getting a run of good ones vs. lower rank folks... then right back to Rank 2-3 Survivors. As a level 19 who just started playing on Monday. Can't hit anyone, can't hook anyone. Game isn't fun.

About ready to throw in the towel.

  • It definitely needs to factor in how long people have played. There's literally zero reason someone who just got this game should be playing with 3 High Rank survivors against a Rank 1 killer. That's not only a miserable experience for the new guy, it's horrible for the other 3. Hell even killers in half my games seem to feel awful afterwards as there's not much join in getting a perfect game that was 3v1 from the very start.

This game is really fun but I feel bad every time I play it because I'm screwing up every game I touch because this ridiculous system keeps putting me with Red or Purples.

And it hasn't been "just a few matches" - it's been over 10. I'm at the point now where I'm just going to stop playing for a few weeks and hope it sorts itself out.

  • I just got the game a few days ago.

It does seem to take *a lot* more matches as Survivor for MM to start working. As Killer, within 5 matches, I was fighting Rank 16-20 Survivors as a Rank 19-20 killer.

As a Survivor, just played my 8th... no joke, Rank 1 Killer, Rank 1-3 Each Other Survivor. Then me at 18.

This is a fun game, but boy did I buy it at the wrong time. I have no idea what questions this system is asking itself after 8 games where it's like: "Here's the answer: stick this guy with 3 red survivors and a red killer. That's where he belongs" but I truly felt awful as the killer got a perfect game because they were essentially 3v1 from the start.

  • 7th game as a Survivor... up against a Rank 2 Killer and with 3 Rank 5 Survivors... as a Rank 19.

We were up against Doctor and I spent a good portion of the match running around one side of the map thinking I was being chased, not understanding how Insanity works because I'd never seen this guy before. I finally figured it out when he hooked someone across the entire map that he wasn't chasing me and looked it up after.

I'm sure the other survivors, if they knew, would be thrilled to know this system put me on their team.

  • It took about 5 games as Killer to start being put against people of appropriate rank. Survivor is taking longer. My level 19 ass has been potato-bait for level 1-9 survivors vs. level 1-10 killers for at least 6 now, with no sign of stopping.

  • Went from pic 1 to pic 2 in 5 games. Hang in there. Take them as learning experiences.

  • Okay - it took 5 games to get there, but this was the first game I won as they finally figured out to stop putting me against rank 1-10 players.

System seems to work eventually, unless this was an anomaly.

  • Update: Okay this system is starting to work. It took like 5 games to get there... I guess it's just really wonky at first.

All those PainReliever vids I watched for like a week before I bought this game seem to have taught me a little more than I thought.

I was playing against a ghost face main (or at least his name said it) and I could tell he was still learning him, I mean he is arguably one of the harder killers to learn to play if you aren't matched properly along with nurse and of course trapper. He was so upset, discouraged, was only rank 20, and said he has had nothing but bad matches... I felt so bad... But in the same hand I played against killers I had zero chance against. This system better work itself out a bit faster...

It's a very, very strange system. I'm too new to judge it, but I can't imagine they were hoping rank 20 killers with no games under their belts would run into games after games of survivors between 1-10. They had to be trying to address some issue from well before my time and just swung to the moon on it.

On the plus side, it's OK for me... I don't mind a challenge... it just sucks for survivors who are looking for a fun match only to run circles around a potato like me while teaching me how to play the game.

you actually sacrificed one? good job.

"Don't worry, he's just a noob" they said.

"I Pallot stunned this guy 3 times in one chase" they said.

"Exits open and he's only hooked 1 guy! lololol" they said.

"He'd never leave a trap in the grass by the exit!" they said.

This Rank 20 may have all the Dead by Daylight skills of Potato Mac & Cheese... but he thought to leave a trap right next to the exit. ;)

Good God, I know that MMR takes time to do its work, but Jesus Christ almighty, how many new players are buying the game right now?!

More importantly, where are all these players for ME to go against whenever I want to play Killer?!

To be fair, the game did just go on sale on Steam - I'm new, first time killer, and having some *great* matches with this amazing, super competent system.

Fortunately, I'm not the type who actually complains. I just find it funny. The best way to learn a game like this is to play against people who can run circles around you... and try to do a little better each time.

Last game, I actually sacrificed one!

  • Yeah... I know what you mean about MMR being busted... First game as Trapper. I'm off to a great start!

    LOL.png

Silver lining: They may have capped all those gens before I hit one, but by God, attempting to taunt me cost 1 of them an escape because while I have the mechanical/technical knowledge of a sprouting potato... I figured leaving a trap in the grass right by the exit might be a good idea.

They said not to pay attention to the color/rank numbers anymore. 🤷‍♂️

Matchmaking they said is based on you collective experience

I can confirm matchmaking is either nonexistant or ... using some very strange metrics. On my first game as killer (just bought the game yesterday), I was pitted up against several seasoned survivors who handed me my ass so easily that they weren't even toxic in the end. They actually said: "Sry, Matchmaking sucks" and told me not to be discouraged. lol

When I lose, I firmly expect to be teabagged and belittled. This was worse than that: this was genuine pity.

I can confirm that there is non-existant matchmaking. I literally played my 1st game as Killer today (bought the game yesterday). I was pitted up against seasoned Survivors who tooled on me so hard, in the end, they didn't even have enough respect for my play to be toxic and rub it in: they apologized and said: "Sorry" "Don't get discourgaged." and "Matchmaking FTL."

I'm determined to learn killer now, at least to the point where they start to teabag me as they win handily... and give me the goddam respect My mom tells me I'm worth. ;)
