If the survivors are still alive and escaping after lighting boons 5+ times in a single trial, I question whether the killer is at their keyboard or holding their controller 100% of the time in that game. That's not a CoH problem.
I mean that the combo of Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer was essentially autopilot. Killers imagine every survivor team has this optimal level of coordination, but the overwhelming majority of survivor lobbies have some solo queue component. One or two survivors are going to be totem hunting, one is going to be saving, and the killer is going to get a Tinkerer alert on the one gen in progress. Sure, a highly coordinated team of good players can deal with Undying barring bad RNG, but we can flip this exercise around too: a high level killer will almost never lose a game with old Undying/Ruin/Tinkerer. It's next to impossible to lose if you're good at killer with that build. It wasn't healthy for the game.
It takes 14 seconds to light a boon. 5+ times could be easily achieved without wasting any time, when several survivors bring boon perks.
So what does the killer when he gets tinkerer alerts from 2 or 3 gens at the same time? He can only run to 1 gen. Chances are high that said regressing gen will be completed by another survivor who sees that gen.
-
The issue is, that most people draw the conclusion that killers are OP and therefore need nerfs. Without realizing, that the way to get those high kill rates was to play in a extremely unfun way.
Killers don´t complain that they can´t get kills. Killers complain that they don´t have fun while doing so. Because they have to play sweaty and scummy.

He didn't get lucky. He just played at a time of the day where trials are softer and failed to realize that occurence, or at least to discuss it properly.
If you play earlier in the day on EU, you're gonna face much better survivors, with the odd curve ball of baby teams still possible to happen, but much less likely.
That is not to say that many of the points he made are false. Rather, that his little experiment doesn't prove, nor disprove, anything, because its results are easily skewed.
Consider this. He afk'd 30 sec at the beginning of each match. Even if each survivor takes 10 sec to get on a gen, that's 20 sec of free repair time for each survivor. That adds up to a full gen worth of progress. If the they do coop, the numbers get a little more favorable for the killer, but ever so slightly. Moreover, keep in mind that's progress that the killer has no way to undo other than dry-kicking gens.
After that head start, a chase must be initiated and completed. You basically give up 3 gens, with a 4th being close to completion, when you have your first down, even against the tutorial bots.
Simply put, the only way a killer of ANY skill level could rebound from that is by either the survivors to suddenly experience broken left click buttons, or by the survivors being worse than AI.
Or by the survivors realizing that they won´t get any bloodpoints out of this, if they continue to pump gens only with a afk killer.
-
So in conclusion, we´ll have to expect some heavy killer nerfs, right?

Yes, more than current Boon totems. Old Undying added an absurd RNG element to the strength of totems, sometimes requiring up to 5 cleanses to disable a single perk. It was the closest thing killers ever had to perks playing the game for them.
Yeah, up to 5 cleanses really sounds terrible. Especially after the killer kicked the boon for the 10th time.
Oh and what do you mean with "closest thing killers ever had to perks playing the game for them"? Do you mean the combo Undying Ruin? Because as far as i remember, Ruin does nothing while you hug a gen. Killer has to do something to get survivors away from the gens. Or what do you mean?

Different regions with different playerbase exist. Killer queue is extremely long during the day in EU servers, and becomes instant in the evening/night
But that doesn't fit your view of "nobody plays killer because killer weak" so let's pretend I didn't even reply to you
No, killer queue isn´t extremely long during the day in EU servers. I would know, because i play in the EU servers, during the day. The last week, the killer queue was never longer than 3 minutes. So again, i don´t know where you guys are sitting, that you get 20 minute queues. Is your cross play off?
Not sure, what you are trying to achieve with the rest of the phrase. Since i haven´t said anything about killers being weak. Maybe read again what i wrote.

I'm talking from actual experience, and the situation with the queues hasn't changed for the last 3 years at least. The only time we had quick killer lobbies during daytime was for 2 weeks after they introduced crossplay. Killer is the most popular role and has always been, no need to make up "nobody plays killer" nonsense in hope for new survivor nerfs.
Not sure where you are playing. But i haven´t seen a killer queue longer than 3 minutes since that halloween event where survivor mains were forced to play killer in order to get all the event coins. ( i think that was 2 years ago, maybe 3) Turning killer queues into 30 minutes. Which was solved after a couple of days by removing the requirement to play killer.

@pizzadwelf said:
I was able to from the beginning, when the game was first released but I can't find any matches any more with croswsplay disabled.
Can you find matches on Epic with crossplay disabled?
If you disable cross play, then you will only get matched with players that play on your platform AND have also cross play disabled.
Which might explain, why you have problems finding matches.

Who is talking about killer? Killer is the most played side, killer queue takes up to 20 minutes during daytime.
Killer queue during the day is never longer than 1 minute and during prime time none existant.
So I'm not sure where you got this 20 minute nonsense from.

Bribing players to play killer won´t work as long as killer isn´t fun to play as.

Hi have you heard of gen perks? They work substantially better and even do so vs a SWF instead of just clapping solos.
Most gen slowdown perks are not worth their perk slot.

Boil over is more of an "use it if you want to be obnoxious" perk rather than meta
Have you seen it on the PTB? Thats more than just obnoxious.

First: Wasn't it only sixteen percent?
Second: Keep in mind that wiggling is being changed to skill checks, which might throw survivors off a little (at least for a while)
You make a fair point, though, sir. On the other hand, survivors will have to keep in mind that if hooking them becomes to hard, they can always be left to bleed out for four minutes, so we'll see how the change actually plays out.
Its 25% progress

Do you really think with another surv or killer perk if you have 4500 hours you can play against people with 100 hours or less? I play yesterday against a noed killer with 35 hours
So what is your issue here? That you get matched against 35 hours killers and they kill you with NOED?
-
@CowabungaDude said:

I have 4500 hours as surv and I play with killers with 100hours and always with noed. Imagine why
Well if survivors don´t cleanse totems, then using something like NOED seems to be a logical step for killers.
So you either cleanse all dull totems, use boons to occupy the totem spawn or cleanse NOED once it spawns.
Most of the time the killer will get 1 down before its cleansed anyway. So whats the issue? As you said, killer played with 3 perks during the whole match, for the chance of getting survivors exposed, which is entirely in the survivors hands.
-
Whats broken about NOED?
-
@Dino7281 said:
Hmm, I would expect it to be lower, but it's probably just because I play only SWF and we just never cleanse. Only searching during the game and cleansing hexes.
I am not sure how I would play it during soloQ, probably same...
1.43 kill rate in solo, isn't supposed to be soloQ bad? It has almost lowest kill rate :D and they want to buff it...
and where the hell did you find so many bubbas...
Solo isn´t in such a bad spot as some people claim and console players aren´t as terrible as pc players think.
As a matter of fact, some of the best survivors i´ve been teamed up with, were console players. Yet, there is this myth, that they are bad.

People in solo q feeling confident that only "the other guy" will get fish slapped by a juicy noed and dip before the killer comes to their gate.
Most of the time I wait for the first hit after the gates are powered, before I try to approach the gate.
Funnily enough, NOED often spawns close to one of the gates. But that might be just luck.

I really should've tracked hooks too
Killers usually got between 2 and 5 hooks by the time the gates are powered.
-
Pretty good job for tracking all those stats.
This looks similar to my solo experience.
Now, why are some survivors so allergic to doing bones, when the kill rate is so low, is beyond my comprehension.

14 x 5 = 70 seconds, not counting time spent looking for them, which can be doubled up if survivors look around areas where another survivor has already cleansed a totem.
Thana gets you 80 seconds if you maintain 4 injuries for all five gens. And Thana costs a perk slot.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2732856#Comment_2732856
Right, we get four perk slots and a variety of perks, not so that we can choose and customise, but so that we can acquire a strict set of perks used to fix bad design and literally never change them.
'Why is the survivor meta so stale!?'
This isn´t a single player game, where 1 person has to do everything alone (unless you are the killer). So your calculation is simply wrong.
-
@Firellius said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2732699#Comment_2732699
It will never be a problem if four randos with zero comms coordinate that effort.
Unless, of course, the killer didn't bring NOED, giving them very strong slowdown without needing a perk slot.
What very strong slowdown? Cleansing a totem takes 14 seconds.
NOED isn´t the issue. Survivors only hugging gens and ignoring everything else is the issue.
-
@Firellius said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2732632#Comment_2732632
Sure. Unless you invested in the alleged counterplay, and all the easy-to-find totems are gone.
Same if someone else did as these forums like to instruct.
And even if no one went for any of them, what if it just godspawned anyway?
Then you´ll feel bad about not cleansing all 5 totems or taking a perk like Detectives Hunch.
There are 4 survivors and 5 totems. If every single survivor takes out 1 totem and tries to cleanse a second one, then NOED will never be a problem.
-
@Firellius said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2732520#Comment_2732520
I mean, it'd also drop to just one totem, so it'd be at least cleansable.
But you're missing the point. The whole counterplay is a major investment that massively backfires if the killer turns out not to have NOED. That's a part that's unfair that would technically be fixed if NOED was active from the start.
Well, its not like all survivors instantly drop dead once NOED activates. You still have to cleanse only 1 hex perk. So simply wait for the first hit after the gens are completed and if you get exposed, then start searching for that hex. Chances are, it spawns in a ridiculously easy to see spot.
-
@Firellius said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2732451#Comment_2732451
In a really twisted way, it would be more fair. Heck, baseline NOED would be more fair than its current iteration.
The fact that it's declared after its supposed, time-intensive counterplay is part of the problem, since it makes the counterplay a risky investment.
And starting the match while being exposed?
Are you sure about that?
-
So... would you be happier if NOED was active during the whole match?

Wanna know what would solve the issue? Perma banning those people.
The people that abused the skin will probably just switch to another killer/skin once the changes go live. So why not ban them instead of removing the skins for everyone?

I really have to ask, but were the Bubbas wearing certain masks harassed or where they considered the ones harassing survivors?
And how was this proven?

Its actually sad that the different faces feature gets removed.

Why does everyone blame the SBMMR for the poor game balance?
The only thing SBMMR did, was make the issues more visible. Which is a good thing.
So don´t kill the bringer of bad news.

I agree with the sentiments of the Dev Update.
The game can never be balanced well if SWFs have such an advantage over solo players. There's no real way to nerf SWFs because DBD can't exactly disable discord, so buffing solos is the way to go.
Having a generator icon, healing icon, chase icon etc. next to a Survivor's name would go miles to helping coordinate hook saves and have solo players make better decisions. DBD is about time optimization and that is why SWFs succeed so much.
One would assume that killers would also get buffed across the board, when solos get closer to SWF efficiency.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Which in return creates more killers that don´t bother anymore.

From Nova himself, he did not mean that first nerf. He meant the one where snare count was reduced, add-ons were neutered, slowdown upon placing a snare was introduced, etc. The first Freddy nerf has nothing to do with this discussion, and if he wasn't going through something major right now I'd ask him to be here and clarify it himself.
Never mind then.

I still don't know how. DbD is not competitive game but when i play against SWF teams or good survivors, i am feeling like they are competitive players. This is why i asked you how. How you can balance this game without hurt solo/chill teams and killers
The game should be balanced around actual hooks. Not hook stages or kills.
Devs could hold regular tournaments where everything is allowed and take notes on the outcome.
Let people see their own mmr rating and reward players that can stay on certain mmr ranks every X amount of matches with shards. This way low mmr people don't have to sweat and can play more relaxed, while high mmr players are rewarded with balanced matches + shards.

Does not matter. We both know she is much better than this. But for healthy game, they both should change. Sadly they will not.
Healthy game? I see a good nurse once in a couple of hundred matches.
Having 5 tournament level nurses on the planet doesn't really make her change a priority.
-
I love going against:
- Nurse (because I hate running in circles. With her I get some true mindgames)
- Myers (jump scare Myers on a indoor map is one of the best things ever! Game feels like a horror game)
- Doctor
Killers I hate going against:
- Trapper
- Clown
-
The survivor meta hasn't changed in 4 years. So don't expect any significant (if any at all) nerfs for DH.

Because they don't know how to nerf it. This is same for Nurse too. She nerfed multiple times and still people don't like her. She is still strongest killer in game. But BHVR does not know how to nerf. So probably Dead Hard will not nerf and they just fixed it little time ago.
She also has the lowest kill rate of the whole roster.

How they will balance game actually? I mean if they buff killers for high mmr, probably they will destroy low mmr community. If they make maps smaller, we have Blight and Nurse. Probably they will be so op. I mean it is kinda imposible, is not it?
Why would it be impossible?
DbD is the only pvp game that doesn't get balanced around top players or the meta. This obviously needs to change, since a bad player can always thrive to become better. But a top player that gets "outplayed" by terrible balancing will only find frustration.

It's true, I don't play nurse a lot, but I've seen a lot of very experienced nurse gameplay and the main difficulty of nurse seems to be learning her. Like, she's super difficult to get the hang of, but when you master her it's just muscle memory. It's not like blight or billy or something where you've got to be constantly adapting to the situation and the surroundings, because nurse's power ignores walls and so is used almost the same in every structure.
I also agree with that last part, but it is a fact that nurse is the strongest killer by miles and I think it is inevitable that she gets changed at some point. Thank you for the feedback though!
Yeah no, i have to agree with @Firellius here.
On top of that, watching someone else play nurse and playing her yourself isn´t the same. She has the lowest kill rate among all killers for a reason. You can probably count the amount of tournament level nurses out there on 1 hand.
Oh and random obstacles can´t be passed by her phasing. So with your idea, she´d had a even harder time.
