Hm...I see. That is an interesting way to describe. Thank you very much for your insight.
Np. If you end up watching the movie, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Everyone gets something different out of a film, so your take could be completely different than mine.

I hate that there are so many charms and no way to choose which ones you actually want to have appear in your customization menu. It's a junk drawer where you can't find anything, new ones are useless because you have to skip through page after page after page to get to them, and the annoying majority of the charms are flat recolored filler.

Halloween Kills is not like...any other slasher movie I can think of
Can you elaborate on this part for me, if it isn't too much trouble? How is Halloween Kills different from other slasher movies?
Most slasher movies are about a killer terrorizing a group of people, often picking them off one by one. Halloween Kills doesn't really have that. Michael kills entire groups of people in a single scene like he's John Wick or something.
The main narrative of Halloween Kills is the way Michael Myers is affecting Haddonfield. The people become obsessed with him, turning their fear into a "kill the beast!" tunnel vision. The way he affects the town goes beyond the murder of a person or person(s) and becomes mass hysteria. Like I said in my first post, many of the scenes are loud and feature large groups of people. It's not much of a slasher movie, more like an action movie with horror window dressing.

the main advantage I think PC players have is being able to stretch their screen, adjust brightness, and that flick thing where they can direct their camera towards you in milliseconds
Higher fps. Playing on both the PS4 and Switch, the advantage the PS4 has with a slightly smoother framerate is huge. I can't imagine the advantage a decent PC with a good framerate has.

BHVR should've added a console-only crossplay option by now. We've been asking for it since crossplay was first announced, and the prevalence of hackers has only made it more necessary, but they've completely ignored both issues.

I'm enjoying using boon totems as a survivor. It's something fun to do rather than sit on gens. It gets a bunch of BP, which I really like.
Will the totems actually shake up the meta? I dunno, but it seems unlikely. Right now boon totems are something new to do, they're a novelty. Once that wears off... Well, the meta is the meta in part because it requires no extra effort from the survivor. Get injured, use DH. Get tunneled, use DS. Make a save, use BT. Left on the ground, use Unbreakable. There's no having to look for totems, no setup time, no cost. The survivor sits on a gen advancing the match, then the killer does something and the survivor's perks come into play. If the killer tries to play around any of these perks, the survivor still gets a benefit from them. There's no needing to get a to a specific area of the map to use the perks, there's no relying on someone else to set up the perks, there's no set up time required of you; the meta just works.
I'm interested to see if boons stick around. Like I said, I'm enjoying them right now; whether I stick with them or return to my usual setup (I love WoO and WGLF, I dunno if I can stay away from them for long), only time will tell.
-
The infinite loading screen happens a lot when I try to play killer. It's rather uncommon when I'm playing survivor, though.
But given that I need to get this killer stuff done for the Halloween event, it's a problem.
-
I watched Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills last night. I liked Halloween. I didn't like Halloween Kills.
Halloween Kills is full of annoying dialogue/sermonizing, forced characters, ridiculous setups, and other such nonsense that exist to push a narrative that could have been interesting if it had been written competently. That's my own opinion, though.
It's not really much of a slasher movie despite Michael killing. Many scenes are loud and contain large groups of people. A lot of it feels and/or looks like it was written to appear in the movie's trailer.
Halloween Kills is not like any other Halloween movie or even any other slasher movie I can think of, so there's really nothing to go by in terms of whether or not you'll like it.

the odd bit is that even though i own the characters i'm getting the generic versions in bloodwebs now even though i could unlock the real ones
I hate that the perks were released into the general pool. I specifically didn't unlock most of those teachables because I don't want the perks polluting my Bloodwebs, and now here they are, polluting my Bloodwebs. 🤬 I want them put back in their cages!
Thanks, BHVR, for making the grind worse for everyone with this. Like most general pool survivor perks weren't bad enough.
-
I've been seeing very few DCs. Which is strange, because usually the number of DCs skyrockets when the penalty is turned off. And I think at least some of the few disconnects I've seen have been crashes.
Mostly I'm getting the infinite loading screen.
-
Pros:
- I like going around smashing event pumpkins
- There's a special free tome with outfits in it
Cons:
- There aren't many event offerings
- Only the survivor(s) who are working on the gen when it pops get the points; this has led to survivors sandbagging others when there's no free spot on the gen, plus a lot of times I don't get any event points when I burn one of the few event offerings I get
Whenever someone finishes an event gen, all survivors remaining on the map should get the points for it. If you burned an offering, then you get more points when it pops.
This event is better than last year's. I miss the blight theme and wish the event had more to it, but again, it's better than last year's.
-
You'd have to take away survivors' ability to break dull totems, then. Because right now, a lot of survivors are going in with Small Game just to cleanse dull totems and make sure boons don't get used.
-
I could swear TotH made blessing totems hella slow.
-
@apathytheclown said:
I have no idea why they made it so you only get the bp if you finish the gen. I’m getting almost no extra bp from the offerings.
^ This. This this this.
Get a gen to 99% (not even exaggerating, it's a hair off), the killer chases me off, then someone else runs up and gets the last millisecond. That's such an awful feeling: burn the offering, do an event gen to 99.999%, get nothing.
When an event gen is completed, all survivors remaining in the trial should get points for it. I swear there were events previously where everyone got points for anyone completing an event objective.
-
Since you can get rid of a killer's hex by blessing a totem, DS should deactivate. I hope the fact it doesn't deactivate when blessing right now is an oversight.
-
I really, really, really hope we at least get to keep the icons if we own the Stranger Things DLC. There's precedent for it.

Killers who are protecting their Hex are more than likely not doing their main objective. This point is moot. You are saying 1 killer protecting a HEX is more powerful than 4 survivors who can bring 2 BOON PERKS EACH.... laughing...really..
Survivors putting up boons are spending a lot of time screwing around. Between looking for totems and then blessing the totem, I see survivors waste a lot of time. Time doing that is time not spent on gens. The matches where survivors aren't blessing totems go so, so much faster.
Survivors finally get a second objective that they're actually doing (at least for a couple weeks before the novelty wears off), and then people want to make the perks so useless survivors won't bother to do it at all. Because if the perks are weakened, no one will use them and all survivors will have to focus on will be gens.
If you prefer survivors have nothing else to do other that rush through gens, just say so.
-
Boon perks would be useless if the killer could destroy the totem. Survivors have no way to protect their totem, unlike killers who can protect their hexes. Not to mention, there are plenty of survivors running around destroying dull totems for the killer. I just got out of a match with a Laurie who ran around to every totem and destroyed it, then clicked her flashlight at it because she was so proud of herself. She made crap points and I still blessed the totem I wanted despite her purposefully bringing the killer straight to me, so screw her, but still, there are survivors out there helping the killers and they can permanently destroy totems.
-
I spent all day today running Circle of Healing, Shadow Step, Empathy, and Borrowed Time. I had so much fun using the boon totems. I was sad when I had to finally turn off my Switch tonight: no more Circle of Healing until god knows when.
My usual build is Borrowed Time, Empathy, Windows of Opportunity, and We're Gonna Live Forever. I haven't even used WoO since the update; I guess that's something to look forward to tomorrow.

They added thrill with the hag. And thrill is free
Personally, I don't want a boon perk that slows down killers snuffing out a boon totem added to the general pool. Most of the survivor general pool perks suck enough as is.
-
Yeah, that's really unnecessary. On a somewhat related note, Nancys running Small Game keep trying to cleanse my boon totems.
-
It makes the framerate worse on the Switch. It sometimes worsens PS4 performance a bit. And yeah, it is a hindrance: it's bad on its own, and it's absolutely awful when it's paired with a killer effect like Plague's sickness.

"Instead, you can't play how you want with friends." That sounds not great for a game's life cycle.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2574868#Comment_2574868
You don't have to plan the totem cleanse, you do it at some point early in the game, and save the activate for the end. It's not that complicated or time consuming.
"Instead, you can't play how you want with friends." = Instead, a group of three SWF can't get the hatch by ganging up against the random solo they get grouped with. I don't see that as a bad thing, given how [BAD WORD]ing awful solo queue already is. SWF is the superiorly fun mode, and not being able to make the random solos they're grouped with miserable doesn't lessen that it is more fun to play with friends.

It's only negatively affecting Pig players. They're more likely to find a way to nerf Amanda's Letter than to fix or acknowledge a problem with Video Tape.
BHVR acknowledged that there's a problem with the Video Tape add-on: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/299
They just didn't disable it, and I agree with OP that they should disable it because letting players waste an iridescent add-on when you know it's broken is not a nice way to treat your playerbase.

so killswitch is bugged. got it
Might not be a bug but simply a limitation of the way BHVR's system works. Bloodpoint rewards that go out to everyone don't show up for players until after a restart, for instance. Same with news posts and usually rank/grade resets.

I think it's specific platforms due to crashing. It's still up on ps4.
No it's not. You have to restart the game for the kill switch to take effect. I haven't restarted the Switch since the perk was disabled, so it's still up for me. However, my friend had to close the game at one point (PS4), and when he restarted the perk was disabled.
-
I've had the game crash during the loading screen, so it's not necessarily that people disconnect due to it taking an unreasonably long time. Just thought I'd mention that.

He means there have been countless issues with uncleansable totems in the past, and not a single hex perk has ever been disabled. Survivors just had to deal with it. But when it's the killers who are in trouble, THEN they demand the problematic perks to be disabled. That is exactly what is called a "privilege" by definition.
1. BHVR didn't have a way to disable perks back then. They do now. The killswitch is a brand new addition to the game.
2. You don't need to disable the perk for uncleansable totem spots; you disable the map. They're disabling the boon totem perk for crashing the game.
3. Maps have been getting disabled a lot recently, and some of those may have been due to uncleansable totem spots.
There have been plenty of times long back before they started disabling maps a bunch when survivors found areas on the map where they were untouchable and killers just had to deal with it. There are a million problems in this game that both sides have just had to deal with. Neither side is special.
-
Not actually a surprise. The killswitch makes it so BHVR can put something out and if there's a problem they can easily disable it. No more dealing with the hassles of patches and what not. This means players are likely to see more problems because BHVR can be laxer about what it considers ready for release. Is that what they originally meant to occur? I doubt it, but that is the psychological effect it's likely to have: an easier way to deal with a problem means less stress over avoiding that problem and moving attention elsewhere.

It's not disabled for me.
And there's still a lot of totems spots on lerys that cannot be cleansed by survivors. Just earlier I got one that was ruin. So when is lerys/hex perks gonna get disabled?
Actually, Lery's Memorial Institute map offering is supposedly also going to be getting killswitched, along with a few others.
This information is according to an outside source, though, and hasn't actually occurred yet. OP has jumped the gun.

A) She doesn’t need a high quality model, and
B) her model is way better quality than most of survivors were (some still?)
C) am I the only one who thinks they wanted to add some witch hoe for no reason?
I'm not talking about the character; I'm talking about the intro cutscene. The characters usually look better in their trailers because the animators/modelers put extra effort in since it's basically an advertisement and at least sometimes BHVR hires an outside company to do it (I'm not sure about this newest cutscene).
Edit: Realized I should specify what I mean when I say she's "low quality" in the cutscene. Her face looks off, especially when it comes to expressions. Since it's a cutscene and not in-game rendering, there's no reason it should be like that.
The cutscene is also boring. It's just one person. These cutscenes often contain a mini-story or at least some sort of ominous presence; there's a tension to them. Mikaela's cutscene feels generic and lacks any tension or pay-off.
-
After the Trickster and Resident Evil and Hellraiser ones, this is definitely a step down. Maybe a few steps down. Mikaela's model in the cutscene looks bad: her facial expressions seem off, and I actually prefer the way she looks in-game to the way she looks in the cutscene. I think her facial structure and the details to her skin look worse in the cutscene than they do in-game.
Edit: fixed ambiguous/poor wording

My problem is that this kind of gameplay is now incentivized with the hatch change.
Sorry, didn't mean to stray off topic. Most of my matches have bad teammates, so it's the norm to me.
Anyway, in terms of the hatch thing, I guess I don't see it. The hatch is still worth the same number of points, so I don't feel that it's incentivized more now than it was before. The difference is that you can no longer get the one random survivor killed and then hatch out with your two friends using a key. Instead, even with a key, hatching out requires getting all three other survivors killed first. I don't think people who didn't play that way before will suddenly change and play that way now: either you prioritize the hatch over everything else or you don't. There's nothing with the change that incentivizes it more.

I guarantee if I went full troll build and I wanted you dead in a game, you would never come close to getting me killed because you're not going to have the perks to be able to do so.
... okay? I usually just suicide in those kinds of matches.

The way I see it, now this is what all your, ahem, "teammates" will be doing. Once they get bored of all the new content, anyways.
Eh, whatever. I don't really consider escaping important. When my teammates make a show of sandbagging me or two separately go immersed and stop playing waiting for the other two survivors to die so they can get the hatch, I may go up to the killer and suicide and move on. I'm also always looking for new "goals" in the game, since like I said, I don't really care about escaping. If a survivor is being a jerk, I'll become glued to their hip, and we will die together, I will give up any chance of escape to ensure it. A lot of my deaths are actually more fun than escaping.
-
What? That's what half my teammates did before this change.
-
The framerate on Switch got worse with the new update. It's even choppier than before.
It has nothing to do with boon totems and it's happening on all maps. It's nearly unbearable. I considered it impossible to track survivors before this, and now it's worse. I used to try to turn the camera as little as possible to minimize the damage, but now it's terrible walking in a straight line with no survivors in sight. Chasing is something other players do. I can't describe how awful it feels trying to hit a survivor with a basic attack.
I just can't with this sometimes. Does anyone working on this game play on Switch? Do they hook up an actual, physical Nintendo Switch to a TV and play the game? Crashing can be difficult to catch due to stability issues being inconsistent, but there's nothing inconsistent about the poor performance on the Switch.
It's worse.
-
Got the infinite loading screen on Switch while playing killer. It hung there for a long while before the game completely crashed.

Undying gives both info & benefit (take place of another Hex). Thrill isnt worth to be a Hex perk.
Indeed. TotH shouldn't be a hex perk anymore. Compare TotH to other hexes and it looks pathetic.

Related, but if I own the ST characters why have the perks' names chanyed
Yeah, I'm unhappy about that, too. I thought owning the ST characters meant the perks would remain unchanged. Right now, the names have changed but the perk icons remain the same. I really, really hope we at least get to keep the perk icons as is. Back in the day before Bill was available on console, there were two versions of his perk icons and that setup worked just fine. I dislike the new perk names; I hate the new perk icons.

It's disappointing because I had a Hawkins offering on each of my Stranger Things characters as a memento. :/
I too did exactly this. HAL offerings on all three characters on two different accounts. And because I'm me, that meant getting them to P3.
I'm heartbroken they're removing the offerings instead of just disabling them. As far as I remember, all other retired offerings are still there in players' inventories.
-
When Pinhead came out, killer queues were longer and survivor queues were shorter for me. I assumed that was because there was a new killer but no new survivor. This time there's a new survivor but no new killer, and now my survivor queues are long while killer is instant.

I'm really surprised what the devs done with the game in this period to completely break it...
I've heard that when the PTB is posted, it's not the most recent build, it's the most stable build. That's why the game seems so much less buggy on the PTB than on the chapter's release.

Ew, that sucks.
I remember there was this whole discussion before with people asking hey, what will happen if we have the original Stranger Things perks from the DLC and try to buy the generic ones from the Shrine... if BHVR decided that was too much trouble to deal with, that makes me really sad.

I was going for them on bloodwebs to have in inventory as little souvenir. If it was removed due to licensing, like how the perks were changed both with pic and name fine BUT in that case transfer the offerings to another of equal value like Bloody Party Streamers.
Yup, that's what I was doing, I wanted them as souvenirs. I grinded like hell to P3 all three characters on two different accounts just to have the HAL badges as mementos.

I'm pretty sure I remember it being said in one of the streams. That owning actual DLC meant the perks would stay the same but the perks would become available in their new generic forms through the Shrine.
Fudge me, I guess I have to go look for that, don't I.
Edit: I looked, and I think it was in the dev stream that's clipped a bit in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKtbQOUt80Y However, that dev stream isn't available to view in full anywhere as far as I can tell. Also, it probably doesn't even matter; BHVR will do what they're gonna do no matter what was said at some point in the past. I'm just sad about it, is all.

With the map being gone, the offerings will be removed not just disabled. Am trying to get information on the offerings right now.
That really sucks, since offerings like the Moonlight ones were just disabled rather than removed entirely. The past couple months I grinded like crazy to unlock multiples of the HAL badges on each of my Stranger Things characters on two different accounts.
Also, I'm hearing that the Stranger Things perks have changed. If someone bought the DLC, the perks don't change, right? That's what was specifically stated (edit: I think that was said in a video, am I misremembering it?), yet it sounds like people who bought the DLC are seeing the updated versions with the new names.
-
No, that's not cool. I specifically leveled up the Stranger Things characters just to get HAL offerings on them before the offerings are disabled.
-
Wait, they're removing the offering? Have they ever removed offerings before, I thought they only ever disabled them?
