Lol I think he is fine as is but I'm glad he's getting changes, I'm sitting here on a 73 win streak with Frederick right now it's hard for me to really complain about him other than just QOL minor tweaks I'd personally make

"Anything that is even remotely decent or requires changing their normal play style is immediately bad and must be removed"
That is what you meant to quote but rephrased. That is me pointing out many players point of view, not a monolith of what happens as you rephrased.
""Except the difference is all the slow downs don't leave the meta ever"
Slow down has in fact never left the meta. Ever. A couple perks here and there, but slow down as a whole never.
The actual context of my points is that survivor only players tend to try and force anything out that's decently good or makes them change their play style. Of which they succeed in almost everything other than slow down because it is required in the game. This is why the meta ends up stale for everyone. That's my point.
I'm gonna have to disagree with your last statement, your bias is showing when you only point out survivor only players and act like they're the only reason stuff becomes stale, we can't pretend like these killers who aren't good at the game don't have a hand in that as well, people who only play one role or just aren't very good in general, if you HAVE to stack all slow downs as a killer then the player is boosted just like a survivor stacking all second chance perks because they can't play without them, that comes down to a skill issue for the people that feel they can't play without those things.

I live in central US and the closest server to me is the Virginia server so ExitLag helps out a ton. Wouldn’t you want lower ping too? ExitLag is also kind of a disadvantage on killer because it reduces your ping so you’re less likely to pokos people. BHVR just needs to invest in more & better servers.
I understand why you would want to lower your ping but it can be used as an advantage because other players don't get access to that low of a ping and you cant deny how important that is on interactions such as contesting windows or pallets, and it doesn't affect killer games in a bad way I know people that use this program they specifically use it for the ping advantage it gives and not the VPN itself because they say it makes the stream look better also

Lol… if you really think this will give anyone an advantage in DBD then I have a bridge to sell you. If you are already at the 120 FPS max cap then this will do nothing. If your PC is so weak that it will not play this game at decent FPS this program will NEVER give you enough FPS to matter and most certainly not enough to give you a competitive advantage as you seemed to imply. This program will not make an unplayable game playable and most certainly wont give you an FPS advantage where you didn't have one prior to installing it.
As I said, the only time ExitLag would give you an unfair advantage is if you play killer in another region where your ping is very high but players are already doing this in regions where they have to VPN to access DBD in the first place.
You don't think lowering your ping to a level you wouldn't otherwise have isn't an advantage? You can try and call me dumb and offer to sell me a bridge all you want I understand how fps works theyre simply advertising that , but when I can have access to like 10-15 ping and nobody else in the lobby can how is that not an advantage? You're boosting a connection for yourself with the help of a third party and it will affect the outcome of every interaction you have in the game it literally can make you have the ability to greed loops longer and get hits as a killer you wouldn't have been able to hit otherwise, I don't understand how you don't call that in itself an advantage when ping in this game matters a whole lot on whether you got certain interactions registering properly

How does ExitLag increase your FPS lol? I already have a constant 120 FPS (RTX 4090 etc) but even then I don't know how an app can make hardware perform better than it was already physically capable of?
All ExitLag does is find the fastest route to the server, if you have a crap connection that is an issue with your internet or how far you are from the server. I live very close to my local servers (in Sydney where they are) so get sub 15ms a lot of the time and I only use it to play survivor on other regions, which actually puts me at a significant disadvantage as I have such high ping I often get hit through pallets and windows and I cant greed.
The only thing I can agree is a problem is people who play killer in other regions as the high ping gives them a big advantage. Which is why so many people complain about Chinese killers in their region, as they all have to use a VPN to even access the game.
Right from the page

It's literally on their front page that it offers fps and small performance tweaks along with what you're saying lol how can you deny what they're advertising?

If you get ExitLag you can choose the server you get put in, I used it a lot to play NA west coast and Asia once the Syd servers reach degen hours and you get all the toxic morons etc (after 2 - 3am OCE tends to turn feral imo).
This is exactly the problem right here because exit lag also gives you a fps boost and a ping reduction somehow along with doing that so you're going to have a ultra good connection and time playing the game while everyone else in the trial is high ping, it should be a cheat when you use a 3rd party to gain the upper hand like that it's not the same as having a ultra nice pc because you can go beyond that performance with exit lag and make it give you an advantage you wouldn't otherwise be able to gain without it, what I mean by that is if I have two of the very best possible pc builds in the world and ran exit lag on one it would outdo its counterpart.
-
They need to get rid of "Exit Lag" or learn how to ban it , people have been using that alot and it's pretty much cheating it's a service that reduces your ping to a ridiculously low number and then also couples as a VPN, so essentially I can use it and join a different server region and enjoy like 10 ping connection while everyone else is gonna have trash ping guaranteed, I'm not sure how exactly it all works but I know it's a paid for service people have been using to gain a unfair advantage on the connection side of things
-
Reminds me of the time I got called a tunneling noob by a survivor whenever I hooked 2 other people before I chased him again
-
Tunneling and genrushing complaints are in the same category, it's bad players making an excuse for their loss, no matter how much mental gymnastics people want to do to try and justify their opinion at the end of the day it comes down to them losing and blaming something else other than their own skill.
-
Not everyone who hides their name cheats, unfortunately there's just really crappy people around who go and ruin it for everyone else, I've seen a few doing it lately but there's not much I know to do watching it from a app outside the game how can we really report this when most streaming apps don't allow you to screen record live streams and you aren't in the game?

Tired of premades all swapping to beamers at the last possible second without enough time to swap to lightborn.
It really wouldn't fix anything, survivors who wanted to do it bad enough would start running residual manifest just to guarantee a beamer if they're locked in like that, it would benefit you alot to learn how to play around flashlights without lightborn just so you don't have to waste a perk or sweat over it

I understand what you mean, but it doesn't quite feel the same when the counterpart, tunneling, has a very clear cut definition. I think replies to the post somewhat prove my point, that nobody really knows what "gen-rushing" is, because in today's game it simply doesn't exist like it did at the time in which the term was originally coined. The comments confirmed my concern that everyone just says "gen-rushing " even when it isn't.
This is absolutely true, alot of people today use the term as an excuse for their poor gameplay, anytime they lose there always has to be another reason other than how they played the game, it's much easier for them to holler genrush, swf, subtle hacking etc.. than it is for them to accept they aren't the number 1 killer on the server they're playing on.
-
Genrushing doesn't exist anymore it was a term that was used when you could instant pop a gen with a brand new part and all the survivors would bring one, so 4 gens would pop within 10 secs of the trial starting but now we have nowhere near that, even if all the survivors brought a brand new part and were separated on gens in today's dbd the killer still has a chance to interrupt it before it's done, most people use that term because they heard someone else say it.
-
Does she fit in DBD? No but alot of other characters don't either so at this point anything they want can fit in the game, if they want to put barney the dinosaur as a killer in the game people would complain and then accept it just like they already do now.
-
I feel like the finisher mori should work on anyone who is dead on hook, they're dead anyway at that point so why not give a cool way to finish people, also I think new moris should be unlockable with each Character having at least 3 different ones to choose from
-
I personally will play against any killer and not give up, however I see it alot when I play solo and it doesn't even have to be skull merchant these people are just giving up to drank their mmr is the only thing I can think of because why even load up?
-
You know why I use anonymous mode as a killer? I don't keep my profile private because I shouldn't have to for one game and survivors will come to your steam profile just because they lost and continue to talk trash, also that way when I play survivor I don't have randoms that I've killed before trying to sandbag me just due to someone being entitled and a sore loser
-
Reactive healing, solidarity, empathy, deja vu
It's not too bad of a solo build alot of times you will heal yourself by healing someone else and it saves time while providing info on which gens you need to focus.
-
She's just annoying not strong there's a difference between the 2 , I can run a merchant the entire game and make her life miserable if she chooses to chase for that long but the thing is they never do commit to chases because the way her power works encourages a boring style of play that neither side really enjoys aside from the avid merchant mains that feel like she's fun but hey whatever floats their boat I guess, not my problem.

Found the video, here it is. Nope, those are not ladder players who do it.
Smh it's sad I'll say that, I've played comp for years and I wouldn't do that without good reason, the devs need to step in and make it reportable if that's happening to people alot, I haven't been seeing it but i couldn't imagine me with 16k hours pulling up killer que with the intention of just bleeding survivors out who more than likely have less hours, BM them with no repercussions, and then act like I won the world series, just more cringe people joining everyday makes me want to just uninstall this ######### game

To be fair, comp players do this all the time when they play public games. There was a video about it recently which Hens made a review of. So yeah, you could say the endgame bleeding is literally a comp play move.
Not all of them do, I know I dont do that anyway, probably just the ones who get bounced early out of every tournament so they want to feel like they finally did something, or a ladder player who just got ran for like 10 minutes in a 1v1, it all goes back to ego and people thinking this game is their real life
-
Why hate Billy? He's not really too much different from before and he's not buffed to old billy level, I think he's fun to face and play as personally, the chase is what makes it for me though the battles you have with a billy that knows their stuff will have you on the edge of your seat, I think BHVR needs to design more killers like him so maybe I'm the minority here.
-
Bet he'd be the first one crying in the chat if the tables were turned and he lost, people like this probably just don't win very often I mean I don't understand the whole excitement of wasting your own time bleeding multiple survivors out and during the event it should be bannable because you have auto hooks with the invitation so it's literally just griefing at this point, the last time I bled out survivors it was because they all had breakdown on in a group
-
People are probably just playing something else because the event is pretty much a redo of last years with a couple things added
-
It's stuff like this that just makes me cringe at the people in this game, acting like they did something because they could 4k and bleed out solo players during an event.

Currently Singularity is weak he does require 150% effort and skill to get Value from this killer (setup, patrolling and infection) which is hard for low and average players i have seen god Singu mains OhTofu and Chocolate and at high MMR Singu can hold a three gen very strongly and probably needs addressing later down the line once he becomes more accessible and easier for more players but for now Singularity needs that patch
Yea he feels pretty weak to me as a survivor playing against him but I don't know much about him as a killer except what I could gather from the ptb playing as him and then the first few weeks he dropped, honestly though it's just not a killer I have fun with I like Freddy, onryo, Billy, oni, demo, twins, at the current moment those are my go to killers , a retired nurse main now I won't play her because it's just no fun ending a game that fast or having people immediately quit because you're the nurse

So idk if this gives a more skillful interaction but theres an addon on SM that stops the automatic rotation of drones and Sm can rotate manually to where you wanna block with the scanlines on one hand Sm has to do more skillful setup but on the downside survivors cant crouch dodge it anymore since the scanlines are a forcefield wall
I would say that has some skill involved because it's a manual interaction and that's what I mean by skill expression is something you manually do to cause it.

I mean. I just gave you a list of the things you could look at and call a skilled play.
It is possible for her to have skill expression that you simply don't find compelling, for the record. You don't have to find all skill expression equally interesting and exciting.
It's not about finding it exciting we clearly have two definitions of what skill expression is, we can agree to disagree like I stated before, it's totally fine to have different opinions
-
@jesterkind said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3746032#Comment_3746032
I don't see how that's different to what I'm describing?
You can go for a cross-map snipe, or, you can just hit survivors in animation lock when they vault something. There's a low-skill option and a high-skill option.
Skill expression, as a concept, doesn't require that you must use the high-skill option and that there not be any low-skill options. You just need to have those high-skill options and those high-skill options have to give higher rewards, both of which apply to Skull Merchant.
To me drone placement is common sense is why but it could just be that having knowledge from years of playing this game makes it feel like it's nothing but it's different than what I'm trying to explain because it's the skill itself I'm speaking of not the fact that there's a low skill option or a high skilled option, there's just nothing in my opinion that I can look at skull merchant and say yea that's a skilled play outside of what she does in basic chase as a mindgame, there's nothing that I feel I could compliment on skill with the drones like the chase itself where I can have a "you outplayed me" moment
-
@jesterkind said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3746024#Comment_3746024
So, right off the bat: Knowing where to set the drones is an element of skill expression. You can't just throw them down wherever and expect them to work, knowing both the right areas on the map and the right position within that area are skill expression and shouldn't be entirely dismissed.
Moving on from that, the biggest thing to point to would be lasertagging, which if you aren't familiar is the process of placing a drone in chase with just the right aim to make sure that the beam tags a survivor as soon as it spawns in, since they always activate pointing straight forward. I'm not going to say it's the most difficult thing in the world, but it is an element of skill expression.
We should also acknowledge manual rotation. There's a timing and positioning game involved there that does take some skill and that you can get better at over time, so that'd count as skill expression to a degree.
There's also hiding drones. Normally, when a drone is placed, there's a circle the survivor can see overlaid on the ground. With the right elevation, that circle is prevented from spawning, which makes the drone harder to spot and can cause survivors to stumble into them unexpectedly. Knowing those spots, finding new ones, and following up on the scan you got would be an element of skill expression.
Finally, this might have a little bit too much overlap with just drone placement, but because of how the drones work it's possible to have the beams pass through tiny gaps in terrain, like Trickster knives. Placing those drones as traps and timing it so you can chase someone into the beam as soon as it passes through the small gap is, again, an element of skill expression.
Is any of this to say that she's the most difficult and nuanced killer in the game? Nah, not really. It's just to say that she does, objectively, have nuance and skill expression in her kit that can't just be waved away as too insignificant to count.
I think you and I have a different definition of skill expression but that's fine we can agree to disagree on this one, I just see more like huntress for example being a killer with skill expression because her power effectiveness solely lies on your own ability with the hatchet , I might be able to cross map you with one or I might miss from a ft away based off my skill
-
@jesterkind said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3745967#Comment_3745967
That seems a little bit like playing semantics, to me. Trapper's bear traps and Hag's Phantasm traps also aren't something you personally take over to activate, nor are Pyramid Head's Trails. Using those well still obviously involves skill expression.
But, moving on from that, you're still conflating skill floor with skill ceiling. Sure, you can mostly get away with just throwing drones down wherever and get some basic results against lower skill survivors, but like every other killer with a low skill floor, there are still plenty of things you can learn to do to get better results.
Even if you never HAVE to use them, her kit still has the possibility for you to express your skill if you WANT to. There is no denying that her rework added a fair amount of nuance and skill expression for you to learn if you care to put in the effort- and frankly, you're gonna need to learn a little bit if you want to compete against halfway decent survivors.
I mean if I know how to play a m1 killer and I know where to set the drones from basic game knowledge what skill do I have to use aside from basic chase knowledge? Name one skill I have to use in order to get value from my drones, I'm not talking about skill floor or skill ceiling I'm saying skill expression where the player input on the power is taken into account and based on your skill it determining the effectiveness of the drone you just placed, so as far as skill expression you placing a drone isn't expressing your skill level that you have in dbd as a killer, nobody sees the skull merchant place a drone and says "oh man did you see how she put that drone down? " because her power doesn't work off of your skill.
-
Idk Singularity is kind of on the weak side in my opinion and that's as a survivor facing him i really don't play him often enough to have an opinion on the killer side of things he's not really a killer that caught my interest as far as his gameplay mechanics go
-

Her power pretty much relies on survivors messing up rather than SM doing much. I still think there's more important things that BHVR should put their resources towards than another SM rework, since this version isn't game-destroying.
Yea I really don't care either way like I stated before she's more annoying than she is strong and @Crowman is right I don't have to enjoy playing every Killer the game has to offer, but if they did rework her ability that's what I would wanna see is an interactive power
-
@Crowman said:
Even if the BHVR was working on a rework, you guys are still going to be unhappy with it. The drones are always going to be here power and you guys will always hate her drones being any amount of threat.
I would be happy if they somehow found a way to make the drone a interactive ability instead of what we have now, and I'm speaking from the aspect of playing her, I enjoy a killer power that's interactive that I can control and that has skill expression, not a power that does things for me , it's the exact same reason I don't like to play knight either, it's just a boring series of dropping a guard that chases for you his power isn't a skillful ability
-
@jesterkind said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3745956#Comment_3745956
I mean. Her power doesn't do those things?
Well, I'm sure it messes up console players with overlapping inputs, I don't know that for sure but that seems like a consistent problem.
What I mean is, it doesn't injure on its own, and the drone radius doesn't make you faster + the survivor slower. That's just not an accurate rundown of what her power does. Injuries are based on successful scans, and the drone beams make you faster, as well as slowing survivors who are claw trapped, not the drone's radius.
There's also a difference between "skill expression" and requiring skill. To get bare minimum results, you don't need to put that much skill in, kinda like killers in the vein of Clown or Legion. However - also like those two killers - there are things you CAN learn to do and improve at to get better results, which is what skill expression is.
Her power does do those things though, are you personally taking the drone over and scanning that survivor? No it's all done for you all the stuff I mentioned are all stuff the drones do alone is what I mean, I don't mean to come off rude I'm just trying to put it in a way that I'm not misunderstood, her chase knowledge is basic m1 stuff and that's all she really has that the player has personal control over, I mean you could argue drone placements but that's kind of obvious lol nobody is gonna drone the corner of a map with half the radius out of bounds it's common sense, everything that her power itself does has nothing to do with skill
-
@jesterkind said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3745815#Comment_3745815
My metric for success when it comes to this particular rework is twofold;
- Does she still have the old problems?
- Does she have any substantial new ones that would replace the old ones?
The answer to both of those is 'no'. She doesn't have any of the problems she used to have, even the less impactful ones, and the few problems she does have are mild enough for her to be entirely in line with other killers.
They gave her nuance, skill expression, counterplay, and a clearer mechanical identity than before. Whether people personally like her or not, that's a success from where she was before.
I'm sorry I can't be reading this right it seems you put skull merchant and the word skill in the same post, she's not by any means strong but to say her power has skill expression is laughable, how exactly is putting a drone that injures on its own considered skill? Is it the skill of knowing console players can't throw pallets on you if you place drones on the edge of them for a free hit? Or the drone radius making you faster and the survivor slower? Basic m1 chase knowledge is really the only skill you need to play her, the power itself has no skill involved.
-
I don't really play any different to those people, sometimes if it's blatantly obvious they're new to the game I'll give them a break and go for a different survivor so they can get a little extra time in the trial, maybe even give them hatch if im in a good mood that day.

Yeah she’s weak and does have a lot of design issues but the average player is still just really bad.
And this kinda mind boggles me sometimes because this game isn't rocket science, I myself play onryo often and I don't feel like she's all that weak it's more of people just don't have the right game knowledge to use her in the way that suits her strengths best.

It will give them a benefit, increasing their odds of winning, is that not enough already?
Well on better players communication is massive... Not only for the macro game but also to decide where you go, because you can just know which resources are still up, you don't need to use certain perks that help you with that. Killers will already struggle against good players, but I don't think you can deny that clock callouts and information about everything that is going on during the match is a valuable resource to have... Take indoor maps for example... Ghostface on Lerys... There is reason why he gets played on that map in comp, and why it is entirely possible for him to even win, despite Ghostface overall being on the weaker side... There are a lot of situations where information is key, and it is just available when you can ask your team things.
Lol of course it helps I'm not arguing that, I'm simply stating that a strong team will still be strong without the comms , I genuinely don't even get why you're arguing at this point you agreed earlier that a strong player would still have game sense without communication and now I feel like you're trying to troll or something by changing the subject of the argument everytime you reply, so I'll make myself more clear , a good swf will be a good swf even without communicating even though it does help them they don't have to have it and chances are they're BSng in a voice chat because they're friends, a weaker team can be slightly stronger with comms BUT it doesn't make their skill go up they still go down fast and still make bad decisions and really only a killer that's worse than them to begin with will feel overpowered and helpless because skill doesn't just magically appear when the mic gets turned on

Nope, I have no clue who you are, I don't really remember names of people in this forum, would lead to biases and judging opinions by the person who said it and not just the opinion itself.
You just made it sound like the killer can do much about avoiding it, unless there is a wall he can look at I don't think there is too much you can do to avoid a background player flashlight safe, sure you can look around for a bit, but that makes it possible for players to come closer in the first place... I guess it much more depends on the survivor to get the angle and be lucky to not get spotted.
Well if you actually watched the video a wall was right behind him, he literally caught the survivor at a wall smh

So for the Trapper example if you do know it is a Trapper and you know where is and that he is placing traps then maybe you will do that, but if you just spawn in and sit on a generator you will probably not find out so quickly, but maybe your team does and then you can do something about it. Also it still provides weaker players exactly that advantage, because they maybe don't play optimal because they are not constantly disarming his traps, but they do call out where he has been and therefore where traps can potentially be... It maybe does not grant the same advantage for players on all levels but it does grant some... For example coordinating to hold a trap open so you can vault a window or something, that is an advantage and you will not be able to get your mate to do it for you because how would they know.
The HUD does not immediately tell them you left chase, this takes a few seconds, either you are exposed anyway or he just 99%ed you and then left in which case OK, what if he is still on you though? During those few seconds the HUD takes to stop the chase animation, this can be enough for him to get into a position to stalk the person on the Gen. For Myers this works even better because his heartbeat is quite small anyway, and taking an unexpected angle is super hard when you have a person following you around from safe distance and telling everyone to pre run... I would say that is quite a big difference, same goes for Ghostface... You see better players might able to negate such benefits, but worse players won't and on indoor maps it just does not matter whether you are good or bad if a Myers with a 6m terror radius pops up right besides you, there is nothing you can do even with game sense... While you might able to understand that the survivor you saw close by with bond was the one chase and when the chase on the HUD stops he might go for you, this is something a swf on comms can just call out without even needing bond...
See but you're arguing about weaker players and I'm arguing that about strong players not being affected it's 2 different things were discussing here, I will say that even if they are weaker communication won't suddenly give a weak team the edge unless the killer is just as bad as they are

A nightmare combo would be nurse and doctor, could you imagine the nurse downs you, the doctor static blasts and picks up with starstruck and then the nurse goes to town slugging lol

Like no offense what does it matter? A flashlight safe should rely on the timing to blind while in animation, so whether you have to walk around and get the safe or with background player and get around while looking at you because you were hiding or what not, in the end it only depends on whether you get the angle or not... If he gets control of his character and is able to turn away the he probably can also remote hook, the whole debate seems to ignore that if done properly the blind goes through before you get control back over your character.
I stated it's possible no offense but do you have a thing with following me around the forum? Lol

While True in its core I would say it neglects the benefits it has against setup and stealth killers... There are just certain times when it gives you a benefit that cannot be gained otherwise, but ofc it does not suddenly make survivors better in chase... But it can give them more of a warning when and where to run.
See and I disagree because smart players won't give the killer time to setup, if I'm facing a trapper I'm immediately taking in chase when I see the trap on the ground as I spawn in because I now have the information and can't give him time to set up any area, as for stealth I mean yea you could probably argue that but 9 times out of 10 that's still not changing the situation because let's say I'm being chased by Ghostface and he cloaks up and leaves me for my friend nearby on a gen, I don't have to tell my friend anything the HUD tells him I'm not in chase anymore and the terror radius suddenly disappeared, it's about game sense at the end of it all and if a group has that then communication is irrelevant and won't matter either way , they could all be muted and still win
