  • Well, it's not meant to be an anti-tunnel perk. Its original functionality was to be a second chance perk. They could have restricted its activation to something else other than anti-tunnel capabilities, since you can still not necessarily be tunneled, and if you are getting hard-tunneled, DS is a singular stun for 5 seconds, and now you're completely vulnerable to tunneling.

  • Why would we talk about the lovely ladies of DBD when we can talk about the glass-cutting body of Daddy Myers

  • Zarina is the only survivor with any fashion sense. Either that or leopard print Ace, so I can hopefully seduce the killer with my sensual style.

Alright thats a very confusing post but heres the thing, functionality is how it works, it works by doing a short dash with I-frames thats the simple part

the hard part is how abusable that is thus a list of ways to abuse it not functionalities of the perk

thing about the counters, cant really counter a lot of uses to it

dh over a trap cant counter it

dh through a post blink lunge the distance itself is usually enough to make the nurse miss or have to fatigue anyway

dh through a shred? they already committed to an obvious animation with a 2.5 second cooldown regardless go for it

im not refering to all the situations where dh can be used at the end of a chase to bait a swing to make enough distance and keep going im listing all the literal soft and hard counters this perk produces by existing

and yes I can get mad at survivors when they extend a chase when they messed up by pressing a single button because thats literally the definition of a second chance that they have on a cooldown

Again, all of that was meant to be part of DH. It's not abuse if it was intended.

DH requires timing and nuance. It also requires that they actually be in a decent loop, and beyond that, that they are actually capable of looping. Any idiot can press E, just as how many idiot can lunge. There is nuance to it.

Plus, that opens the door for survivors getting mad at you for running haunted grounds. You don't even have to do anything; just wait for survivors to get totem-horny and you've got everybody exposed, op toxic cheap trash baby killer im quitting the game

  • not until we get a monstrous shrine nerf first, that toxic ez cheap second chance trash baby survivor hard carry perk

  • You are confusing "abuse" for functionality. The entire purpose of dead hard is to be a second chance evasion. Imagine people getting salty for running make your choice; it abuses the system by denying the survivor dead hard but still getting them down, cheap ez toxic way too OP nerf when im quitting the game and starting a petition to ban make your choice and whoever made it should be executed

Dead hard has easy counters. #1, don't swing and bait it out. If it's being used for the I-frames, this is easy to manipulate. If it's being used to gain distance, too bad. That's the point of exhaustion perks; to gain distance within a chase. You can't get mad at survivors for wanting to extend chase when they have the chance, just as they can't get mad at us for running expose perks and cutting the chase short.

This is so off-topic, but that's exactly what the expression means.

Like I said, YMMV. I currently believe that if you say a -ist comment, you're upholding -ist systems (that members of a certain group can hurt others using -ist means), and are -ist yourself.

I'm not familiar with unusual turns of phrase, so I pretty much guessed what those meant. I'll add them to my vocabulary arsenal though.

I would agree with your interpretation, but it's nuances of human language like sarcasm that throw wrenches into it. I deride all sorts of people and their values that I don't like, but I'm certainly not supporting them. Why? Because my intention isn't to support their institutions, it's to denigrate them. Same thing with edgelords with no clue of what they're saying. They're doing it for attention, and nobody really takes them seriously.

  • If you're playing solo que, Dwight first for bond. Next up is Adam for deliverance (Diversion and autodidact are really, really fun too). Jane next, because who doesn't love head-on, and then Tapp because his perks are pretty bad.

  • Perhaps that would be good for in-game knowledge, but the issue is that totems aren't something survivors are able to innately sense in game. A survivor can write down how many times their friends are hooked, but they won't be able to know if another survivor is doing tokens.

Of course, game mechanics trump lore. That would be a welcome addition, I'm sure, if it passes the lore test.

  • You're preaching to the choir. I play a healthy bit of survivor, and I'll I'm going to say I bring keys after going against hags.

  • I think instadown ambushes are strong-arming it too much. I would probably make combat straps a part of her base kit, as well as increase the rate at which the terror radius decays and increase the rate at which it returns, just to help her in the stealth department. Addons to increase her crouching speed would help too, as well as addons that may increase the range of the ambush, or its charge. Perhaps even ambush speed, to make it more viable in chase. Restricting her bear traps but significantly decreasing the ambush charge time and increasing ambush attack speed would make it actually useful, as an add-on.

I go with the old adage of "intent follows the bullet." If you're using transphobic (or any other "-phobic") language to attack someone, you're transphobic.

    YMMV

Well there can be multiple possible intents behind that bullet. After all, if intent is enough to differentiate between murder and manslaughter, I'd think it would still hold weight here.

What's the difference between a homophobe and someone who just spouts homophobia to be "edgy"? None whatsoever, IMO.

Well, intent. Homophobes, in the broadest context, are people who harbor hatred for gay people. Most times, it's because of some book from ages ago with a bunch of obscure laws about this and that. When edgelords try to jump on the reactionary hype train, I doubt they've ever even met a homosexual before. They're just doing it for the attention and shock-value.

The important part comes in that every edge lord eventually decides to be a functional member of society and stops caring about being an emo or whatever. People who hold vehemence and ill-will, on the other hand, are incorrigibly detrimental.

It really does attract the worst of the worst...anecdotal, but I was watching some drag queens playing together on Twitch, SWF but not trying hard, laughing and having fun. Not calling out anything other than "Save me!" or "I'm headed for the hook." They weren't exactly being toxic other than winning fairly easily.

Post game, the killer came into the chat, ranting about SWF and (upon seeing the queens playing) using anti-trans language I won't repeat (none of them playing identified as trans, the player on stream is a drag artist) and it was just disgusting. That killer got banned from chat quick, but it's sad to think that because it happened on a third party platform, they (and many like them) are still playing and possibly continuing that behavior.

Well, I don't think they actually have any transphobia built into them, they're just childish salt mines who have no idea how to even behave in a dignified manner, so they denigrate others in order to make themselves feel better.

  • That's a good start, but lacking in meta perks.

For a chase perk, windows of opportunity does wonders, regardless of your skill level. Identifying strong loops and weaving them together is invaluable.

As for exhaustion perks, Balanced Landing is my favorite. It can turn dead zones into getaways.

As for healing, self-care isn't really the best. It can be useful in some situations, but most times it's worth waiting for a teammate to come help you while you do gens. I usually run inner strength instead of self care, since it's much quicker. Even Iron Will can be better, if you're comfortable playing injured.

Borrowed Time is a necessity. Even if the killer isn't face camping, it can still give you use.

Decisive Strike is always useful too. Unfortunately, the recent nerfs are beginning to make it worse, but it's nevertheless great to have around. If they keep trying to mold it into an anti-tunnel perk, however, I would probably drop it.

Bond is probably the best perk you have on you right now, especially in Solo que. I'd probably run either balanced or windows, bond, borrowed time, and DS, iron will, or inner strength.

  • I really don't think it's homophobia, it's just people being reactionary edgelords. That's the issue with the fanbase of DBD; it's a bunch of toxic edgy pseuds who are really not the best people to socialize. That's not to say I'm any better, it's just that this game attracts the worst of the worst.

  • WMi is great and all, but I typically prefer borrowed time. Kindred might also want to be replaced by another perk, perhaps a chase or exhaustion perk since you don't seem to have any of those. Balanced Landing is great, since you'll be able to turn ridiculously unsafe areas into free getaways.

They could at least offer a variety in ages. Not have all of them be in their 20s, early 30s.

Yeah, that would be fun. Bill and Ace need some love too.

If you've played Uncharted 3, someone like Katherine Marlowe would be perfect. She's old but she's still got spunk and could probably run around decently. Interesting backstory too.

  • Don't worry, it's just called solo que.

  • If you want an absolute nightmare of a map, try bringing back old Haddonfield with the quadruple windows.

  • Well, I don't think they're necessarily considering on their gender, just exploring different archetypes. The brilliant architect stereotype (Felix) is usually male, but the explorative and brave reporter seeking social justice (Zarina) is usually female. The rags to riches swanky music producer stereotype (Yun-Jin) is also usually female, as is the punchy occult treasure hunter (Elodie).

After all, imagine what would happen if they made a male Feng. Instead of a gamer girl we would have an incel.

In all seriousness, though, it's probably just chance. There are plenty of more stereotypes to exhaust, such as the obsessed scientist (male or female) or the rough biker gang member (usually male). Hell, we might even see Thelma and Louise type characters soon.

  • Well, it is a hex, so it can only be that great. Better pray to RNGesus.

  • The hitbox giveth and the hitbox taketh away. The cars are annoying, but survivors have janky and unspecific hitboxes too, which lets you get hits by hitting a few centimeters above their head. It all fits into the issue of hitboxes are difficult.

  • Since object is going to get the absolute hell tunneled out of you, both are pretty good. However, I'd chose DS just because if you don't make it to the endgame, adrenaline is going to be useless.

  • Corn isn't real, it's a bad dream, it'll be better in the morning.

That being said, even in the empty vast expanse of corn, It's still possible to juke him in the corn, since there is literally nothing but corn. Especially since the chainsaw is relatively loud, he won't be able to discern where you are by sound, and since the corn is pretty much stabbing his eyes out, you just have to be unpredictable.

  • The new survivor's is 70 and her best perk is to scold the killer for not holding open the door.

  • I'm not a fan of his power because it's just pumping everything on steroids; he doesn't have a niche.

EG, clown can shut down loops well, spirit is mindgame city, hag is a literal hackerman, huntress has range, and bubba has instadown capacity. Freddy has map pressure with his gen teleport, slowdown with slowdown addons, anti-loop capacities with the blood pools, and even pretty decent camping potential since the lullaby overrides borrowed time. He feels relatively unfun to play just because of that lack of nuance.

In other words, it's not fun spamming 20 blood puddles to slow them to 0% movement speed. It feels like you're trying to brute force your way to the end.

You can know which lockers they’re in but it doesn’t matter, you can’t do anything since there’s no counterplay. Singing and dancing in front of the locker to try and bait them out is not counterplay. Its also hard to avoid sometimes because they keep making the hitbox bigger and bigger so that it can’t be avoided because survivors need their fun.

There is counterplay. You don't go near them. You don't need to always bait it out, you can literally go around it, which usually is a bait in itself.

No, they aren't increasing hitbox size. Hitboxes have pretty much remained the same. When people rage and blame hitboxes for unfortunate hits to their wives leaving them, it's because of latency.

There's no need to be so salty. Head-on is easily countered by identifying and avoiding said lockers, when you eventually get the hang of effective jukes, you can get free hits out of them. It's not that difficult.

Also consider that lockers leave survivors exposed. If survivors get used to jukes, you can use the not inconsiderable size of the "open locker" activation area to grab them out before they have a chance to react.

True, but the Sprint Burst lasts 3 seconds. You can chain the charges of the chainsaw for much longer than 3 seconds.

Well, yes, so if they end up sprint bursting in a straight line while you strategically deplete all your charges, you'll catch up to them, but keep in mind that bubba's chainsaw needs a period to accelerate, as well as the charge, and unless you're playing midwich (god bless your soul), most sprintbursts will help them make it to a loop.

  • Ghostface is just as OP as your retinas are. (Sense the sarcasm).

  • Screw that, James Charles needs to file a defamation lawsuit for making his likeness Asian and giving him purple hair.

  • It needs a buff for Solo que, if anything.

Even against a coordinated SWF, you eventually get used to where survivors are leading you, and anticipate which areas and lockers they're going to be in. Also don't forget that if they're all head-oning you, they're not getting gens done. It all comes with gaining game sense and predicting survivors.

That's exactly what head on suffers from. It is incredibly predictable, and once good killers know you have it, they won't fall for it again.

  • Blinding incrementally too early, by mere frames, can cause the blind to occur maybe 1 or 2 frames before the pickup animation, causing the flashlight stun to fail. I've gotten potential flashlight frames off by literally 2 frames (I tested it in KYF and slowed it down frame-by-frame).

  • I don't know where you got the idea that it's faster than spirntburst, it's a maximum of 135% with the beast's marks, compared to 150% for sprint burst.

I play against a lot of Bubba, and I often see them getting too cozy with their chainsaw. Keep in mind that Bubba can easily be countered by tight looping and windows, so identifying strong loops is a powerful counter. At that point, they have to m1 you. Even pallet gyms can be a powerful counter, while the pallet is still up.

  • Really, I think that it's just unnecessary. The accumulative sum hook counter is enough for me, and I think that keeping track of survivors' hook states should be an obligation of the killer. That being said, I wouldn't be opposed to giving them an analogous hook counter, since it really doesn't change much when you can mentally tally hooks for individual survivors, but I wouldn't be jumping to add one.

  • What you call "genrushing" is simply doing the objectives. Imagine survivors getting salty at us for getting 5 hooks early on.

Either way, both of these examples are deflecting blame for one's own shortcomings. The responsibility of the killer is to maintain pressure, in order to force survivors off of gens. This is done through getting downs and hooks, as well as quickly ending chases and patrolling gens in an efficient manner.

Now, if survivors start to prioritize gens over friends, then that's a boon for you as well. You can camp them out to ensure that they progress to the next stage if they're close, and you then have good reason to tunnel them to death (avoiding DS of course).

  • I think what you mean to be aimlessly raging against is wireless connection, not hitboxes. Hitboxes have remained pretty much the same (and have been improved) from the very beginnings of the game. Latency is what will cause unfortunate hits, especially after dedicated servers were introduced.

  • I can see what you're getting at, but it's a stretch to say that not doing totems is a punishment for purported "genrushing". Said "genrushing" can be solved by applying pressure to survivors, via getting downs at hooks. If you feel you are getting "genrushed," don't blame survivors for doing their objectives, blame yourself for failing to keep up the pressure.

The main issue with classifying totems as objectives is that that simply isn't the point of totems. They're easy to cleanse, and will hardly buy you any time with survivors who have map knowledge. That being said, nobody expects NOED at high ranks. It's easy to counter, but such a rare possibility that you barely ever think about it, much like deception or diversion.

It is also worth noting that DS is not an appropriate analogue to NOED, especially after the new nerfs. DS is a simple, singular stun for a tunnel, which can be countered by slugging. Moreover, it only procs once. NOED is an instant expose on all survivors, which is plain ridiculous. Similarly to DS, it's a second chance perk in intention, but NOED transcends that limit and is able to win you entire games on its merits alone. All you have to do is play badly enough to get to the endgame and you've gotten yourself a win, as long as you're somewhat decent. It is absolutely absurd to compare the atrocity of NOED to the mild annoyance of DS.

Of course, that's not to say NOED is overpowered. It certainly has the potential to be, but it's a hex perk so it can really only be so good. If you can concentrate pressure well on a killer with decent map mobility or tracking (EG, doctor, nurse), you can get four downs before a gate opens. Otherwise, you get a few downs, maybe a few kills, and all survivors are gone or your totem gets cleansed in 5 seconds.

TL;DR, NOED is a punishment for not doing totems, which is irrelevant to the conversation about generator speeds.

If anything, it would be frankly homophobic to assume that he is, based on his appearance.

That's what the OP is referring to, yes. As you can see, someone doesn't actually need to be homosexual in order for someone else to be homophobic toward them. Homophobia is not rational.

The nature of homophobia is not at question, the issue is that the OP insinuated that the new killer was indeed homosexual (which we have no indication of). Yes, homophobia is completely irrational and an abhorrent stance, but it is equally irrational to assume that the new killer is gay.

  • There are literally no homosexuals to be homophobic against in this chapter. Nothing suggests, by nuance or by explicitness, that the killer is gay in any sense. If anything, it would be frankly homophobic to assume that he is, based on his appearance. Homosexuals can be James Charles with purple hair or daddy deathslinger.

That being said, if there was a character who turns out to be gay, I'm sure that the homophobia is going to be rampant in this little edgelord community of reactionaries we have here. We're yet to see that, however.

  • Horror is not only completely subjective, but a very broad field. Ghostface is meant to be a silly man who goes around causing panic by committing murder. The Spirit is a ghost with daddy issues. This guy is an attention-hungry flamboyant megalomaniac who murders people for the glamour. It's all in how you look at it.

With regards to backstory, I can guess you haven't read much into it yet, because you are precisely on about with what he's supposed to be. Every killer is meant to have a certain flaw that brings them to the entity: plague has self-righteous devotion, Myers has pure evil, does it for Jigsaw, Spirit has resentment and a not inconsiderable grudge, Charlotte just wants to protect Victor, Ghostface does it for the fun, and this guy is a total attention-######### who does it for the stardom. Sure, it can be sh*ts and giggles if you think about it in the sense of Asian James Charles dyed his hair purple and kills people with a bunch of flashy darts, but it could also be the thirst for attention and recognition that brings people to do awful things in the name of fame and showmanship.

Aesthetically, I don't like the new killer much, just as how I don't like hag or twins, but that's entirely based on my perception of horror. Besides, it's been a long time since DBD was meant to be a horror game. It's clearly transitioned into the slasher genre, which is even more broad than horror. Imagine how ridiculous it is for this grey tree monster with a mouth flower face to be chasing you while nodding the entire time, or a bunch of teenagers who you can t-bag after giving them a concussion with a hunk of wood.

I don't mean to be the one to tell you to change your mindset, but if that's your vision for DBD, then I think you would have been, and will continue to be, disappointed, and maybe it's time to find another game. There are plenty of fish in the sea, and if you don't subscribe to this particular genre, you could try out the myriad of more "horror" oriented games. I would recommend Bloodborne; it's terrific and horrifying, and not much of a slasher.

  • It's probably because of the realm beyond updates. They're already revamping maps so I guess that counts.

Good point, I can just imagine Xi Jing ping (Chinese President/leader) saying "if you dare add a LGBT character then I'm uninstalling" sounds like a joke but cultural differences probably do play quite a large part.

Exactly why only the US and Europe branches of international businesses only take part in promoting equality and stuff like that.

It's not just the US and Europe, most other liberal countries (Taiwan even) will be promoting equity for the purpose of boosting sales (Note that relatively conservative Eastern European countries don't have LGBTQ characters). Remember that game developers are businesses, and whatever helps them boost sales is what they will put in.

That being said, I really can imagine Winnie the Pooh raging at the Xbox after his favorite gamer girl survivor turns out to be a lesbian. 10/10 imagery, my English teacher would be proud.

Not really, one can check a company's shareholders via sites on the Internet. It's more public than you think.

And the evidence against your "majority" is literally the amount of people mentioning the homophobes, plus how a majority of the DBD community is apparently LGBT(?). So.

If living in the US has taught me anything, it's that the minority is always louder. There's never really been a solid statistical review of the player base, but if the toxicity is any indicator, I wouldn't be surprised to see little Ben Shapiritos running through the forums.

One thing to take note of is that BHVR is a private company. I'm not sure how securities laws function in Canada, but neither the CFPB nor the SEC require private companies to disclose ownership of their company. In most cases, most of the equity in private companies is held directly by the founders, who, as you may note, are not Chinese nationals.

  • @OopsAllHexes said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1988035#Comment_1988035

Not to mention that, from what I've heard, Chinese companies own quite a bit of BHVR iirc and China does not allow LGBT characters.

For example, Soldier 76 from Overwatch is LGBT here, but straight in China. BHVR was probably paying lip service to get your support.

Well, speculation about ownership is just speculative.

I think that BHVR learned from the lessons of Soldier 76, being the vitriol over “forced” diversity (which I can’t say isn’t true). The reality is that the majority of the player base of this game is a bunch of edgy reactionary pseudointellectuals, which won’t take very kindly to apparent diversity hires.

  • That was complete speculation based on a simple color scheme.

Plus, as has been detailed in the past, creating a LGBT character is a risky catch-22, since if they are just a normal character who happens to be gay, you get accused of recruiting a diversity hire. If they are “recognizably” gay, you eat accused of stereotyping.

  • Leatherface is simple. Once survivors get to advanced tactics, his power is pretty useless. If anything, I think that destroying pallets should deplete all of his charges and disable his chainsaw for 5 or so seconds, although perhaps have an add-on to remove this.

1 … 26 27 28 29 30 … 33
