  • I don't think it has ever made anyone stop playing for a day, but as a Survivor: Pallet Stun/Flashlight Comboed a killer twice in the span of about a minute, and still making it out of the match without getting hooked.

As a Killer: All but completely ignored a Tbagging Flashlight Clicker that was desperate for me to chase them. Only time I hit them was when they would take a protection or unhook hit, and even then they were practically begging to be chased. I know bait when I see it and I am not playing that losing game with you!

What I find Disheartening is this right here. I understand Matchmaking is dead horse topic at this point, and I don't enjoy being one of those people to bring it up yet again, but I had no business being in a match with Survivors this far beyond my skill level as a Killer.(Playing on PS4 for context.) I expect something like this every so often, but this was the first of 3 matches in a row I was put in last night where the majority of, if not all the Survivors were single digit ranked, and there was at least 1 red rank in each match.

I totally forgot that one. I think some don't know the killer gets notified by it?

Only think I can think of as to why, that, and they don't know the hooks respawn.

  • Used to be Doctor, but recently I'm getting more annoyed with Freddy leaving dream snares at the exit gates and having nothing I can do about it.

  • @EvilBarney666 said:

I actually like when they hang out there. It gives me time to break any pallets I might have missed as well as being able to find and close the hatch for extra points.

Plus it denies them their gloating. So I look at it as a win for me and them helping me get some last min points.

Yep, if I see them all in the gate. I immediately head elsewhere. Not giving them the satisfaction.

  • @Marigoria said:

Why do you complain about being found first when as soon as you spawn you start sprinting everywhere?

Why do you loop near the hook your team mate is on?

Why do you open the gates when the killer is nowhere near you?

Why are you allergic to totems?

Why don't you crouch when you unhook against a hag?

Why do you still drop that pallet after you get hit?

Why do you self care under pallets when a team mate is being chased nearby?

Why do you feel the need to heal 10 times a match?

I would like to add "Why do you immediately sabotage the hook we spawed next to?" Or am I the only one who has been stuck with someone like that?

    As for the others:

    1. I don't, but I will curse my luck if I hear that heartbeat within the first 10 seconds.

    2. I can't loop for #########.

    3. Unless I have a friend in the match, I'm concerned about getting my tail out, the rest if you are fair game.

    4. Priorities and convenience, if I find one better to cleanse it now than risk NOED, but I'm not scouring the map for them unless it's something like Ruin or Huntress'.

    5. It's always the person I save that triggers it.

    6. Nope, keep running and try to break LoS, unless I am certain I can get the stun.

    7. I don't, I find a corner or at least decent cover.

    8. I see no sense in walking around injured any longer than necessary unless you're running perks that benefit from it. Always better to be at full health, even against instant down/expose killers. You're easier to find when you're injured.

  • I have done this once as a Survivor as a desperation move. In a match with one friend who died early due to some bad luck. We were playing on Red Forest, the one with the tall temple. Killer spots me and I immediately book it the short distance back to where I know the other two Survivors are healing each other without hesitation. It was a dick move, but better them than me. I later made it out because of a lucky hatch spawn. I still laugh about that match. To those players, yes I'm sorry. Yes I know I was an awful teammate, but this situation itself from any perspective but y'all's was hilarious.

I just started recently and have gotten into the dbd community and mainly just read through other peoples opinions on things to see if mine are similar, but one thing I seemed to notice is SWF (Survivor with Friends) groups being really tilting for some people.

I just experienced that today and it was probably the worst experience i've ever had

I'm not expecting to always win my matches, or always do really good in all of my matches, so when I do bad in a game, I accept it and move on

But these teams make it honestly unplayable

One person just loops you around and makes you look stupid for chasing them while the rest of them just 3 man a gen.

I know that they also wont remove SWF either. I honestly think that there should be an option that only let's you queue up with random players. That way, SWF can still have their fun and killers can still have fun too.

I really hope devs somehow fix or nerf this.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/KX0IFA988XFN/rgrgr-png.png

SWF is one of, if not the most divisive topics on the forum. Personally, I think you were just the victim of poor matchmaking. 12 is a perfectly respectable rank and is where I hover around for both Killer and Survivor, but unfortunately, you occasionally get thrown in with people you have no business playing with. Low rank Survivors get pulled into matches with high rank killers because of one good Survivor on the team and vice versa. I have been on both sides and typically queue Survivor as 1 of a pair. The strategy you encountered is fairly common, and admittedly, pretty clever and effective. Your best option in that scenario is to break off and find another target. Good Loopers (Which I definitely am not) will try everything to get and hold your attention. I'm sure you've encountered a Flashlight Clicker by now. Just try to ignore the bait and do what you can until it's over.

They’re still working on the MMR system and it will have separate MMR for each killer, hence why you’re now locked to one in the lobby

Good to hear they are still working on it. I know the code for it would be a nightmare, but it would be nice if they could take individual killer and Survivor levels into account in MM.

  • I've only ever seen Tbagging as a mild annoyance and usually make a point of staying away from the exit gates so as not to give them the satisfaction. The ones who do it in a chase or otherwise, I just try to make them pay for it, and hope luck is on my side that game.

  • Conceptually and Aesthetically, I think he's great. I gave him a fair run for a while, but I couldn't get the hang of controlling his Rush (PS4 for context). I found it great for covering ground in a pinch, but I kept getting dodged.

  • For me, it's the Doctor. Simply because he's a hard counter to my Survivor play style. I can't loop, and I know it. Respect to those who can. So I rely on not getting found, and that static burst will get me every time if I can't dip out of his TR quick enough. Conceptually, I think he's great and makes for interesting matches. 2nd would probably be Wraith because of how often I face him, and all he does is just keep me a little extra vigilant. Spirit and Nurse are only annoying in skilled hands, and even then I have to respect the players behind them. Hag was the first killer I mained and prestiged so I only hate facing her with players who don't slow down and approach gems and hooks carefully.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    You can.

Honestly they made flashlights wicked easy to pull off now. I never used to be able to do it but I can get it almost every time now because of the sound and such it makes you know when it's working.

It also seems to be working at odd angles and is affected by dedicated servers more than usual. I've seen them work on the back of heads and through some walls.

I'll have to give it another shot because honestly I never could get the hang of it, especially since there was no indication on the survivor side that it was working.

Things before were p2p so killer had constant 0 ping. This was because they hosted the lobby. You cod see if they had terrible ping and could see theirs. However they changed that and havent fixed vaults kr any types of hits since then.

Interesting. Also, I meant to put "empathize." Did not double check my text.

  • Being perfectly honest, yes, Doc is probably my least favorite killer to go against, but I understand and accept the fact he, generally speaking, is a hard counter to my personal play style as a survivor which is generally stealth because my loop and chase are weak against skilled killers (for reference, I hover around 12 for killer and survivor, so I believe the term "average" for me is perfectly justifiable). You know the sound of his power even at a distance by now, so brace yourself as soon as you hear it (assuming you're not the unlucky soul that he waltzed up on first, in which case sorry for the crap luck.) Lockers seem to be a decent go to, but try to have a contingency plan if you run into one running IM. (Which thankfully I haven't had the misfortune of as of yet, but now I'm paranoid I will.) I honestly wish I had more constructive and productive input, but it's the best I have, and I hope it is of some assistance.

Yeah no ######### doesnt just happen. This ######### never happened in 2017 he devs just do not care about fixing it. @MandyTalk more proof of hit validation come look.

Also watch this the game right after :)

Tell me this hits, its comical at this point. But uhh survivor sided game, just vpn lol.

I'll have to take you word on it. I didn't jump into DbD until fall of '19, though I did jump in headlong. So personally, I can't attest to how things were before, but I can emphasize having been on both sides of this or similar scenarios. It does indeed suck.

  • If I were running solo Survivor, there is a good to fair chance I would have left them there depending on the situation(eg. Gens done, Killer Proximity, ect.) I did once end up on the wrong side of what I later learned was a "Basement Bubba" which has left me a bit apprehensive about such situations. If I'm running with at least one friend, I am much more inclined to go for them, because I do personally fell that letting someone die on first hook, especially of they haven't tried to escape themselves is just a dick move regardless. That being said, if I'm running by myself, we still have 4 gens to go, and I got the one done all by my lonesome? Yeah *Cartman Voice* "Screw you guys, I'm going hatch" XD

  • Can we not chalk this up to "######### happens"? I'm an entry level, and I mean very basic entry level coding/IT student and even machines make mistakes. Not to say that things like this aren't frustrating, I can certainly empathize there. Sometimes your perception and the server's don't sync up, and yeah that sucks.

  • I would have to double check the wiki, but I am fairly sure light burn only applies to the Spirit and the Wraith.

  • @Leachy_Jr said:

No, until 12 hooking becomes viable.

I gotta give some backing here as well. The Asymmetrical Aspect of this game gives it a fairly unique opportunity to break from the black and white winning team, mechanic. If we are being perfectly realistic about it, a killer, even in Red Tier (Which admittedly I have not touched on either side) hooking all four survivors 3 times is mostly, though nigh impossible, against a full SWF team or even 2 sets of 2. If the devs could rework the system to where top tier killers didn't feel pressured to 4K and Survivor Teams to all escape, we just might see an overall increase to the mood of the community as a whole where killers aren't as frustrated with 4 SWF groups and such groups wouldn't have the motivation to run as such apart from just being a group of friends wanting to play a game together. Though, admittedly, I may be giving too much credit to people in general.

  • @RocketPenguin said:

To stop them from doing something that makes the game less fun.

Also the objective for killers is to entertain the entity at least lorewise and they get punished for not doing that lorewise too.

To a degree, I have to second this. I have yet to really dive down the rabbit hole that is the lore of this game, but I have seen the entertainment reference more than a few times here. From this perspective, the fix would lie more in a rework, but not quite an overhaul of the emblem/pip system( I honestly do not know how many of what specific action on either side is needed to pip in each Tier/"Color" of play). If the devs really want to drive home the idea that The Entity wants to be entertained, maybe give benefits for closer perhaps, but not necessarily, longer running, more eventful matches.

  • @Kees_T said:

    Yes it should.

As a weaker version. DS effect is permanent, but, If one of these conditions are met:

    • The Killer hooked another Survivor
    • If your healing bar reached 50%
    • You total time on a generator exceeded 10 seconds
    • End-game collapse begins

The DS effect will be removed immediately.

With those conditions, it's real effect will be only to prevent Killer from chasing the same guy, and it can't be abused. Since only 1 survivor can have this effect, he will be forced to chase other Survivors, or if the Killer really wants to chase the guy with the DS, the survivor will have the chance to loop the Killer for what amount of time he can, and then DS him.

I find the stipulation about the killer hooking another survivor viable. Playing killer and survivor both, and being around rank 12 for both (I do not mean that in a boastful way. Only to say I am, for all intents and purposes, likely average.) I have been on both sides of this. Having a more mild version might help, especially with newer survivors. If not, maybe we could see a buff to Boil Over to make wiggling free more viable. I think we also need to keep the fact that DS (and the BO backup) are both basically DLC perks (I admittedly do not know how often they come up for purchase in SoS) and making these mechanics more available to the player base may be a good thing.

  • Not a rework, but definitely a buff to Boil Over. At rank 3, I should not need Petrified Oak or another survivor running interference to wiggle free.

  • I hate going up against them, especially since I mained Hag first before trying others. I respect survivors that can use them though because I never could get the hang of it. Clickers though, nah, get'em outta here.

  • @Zayn said:

    *Laughs in Ghostface main*

I did have a rank 20 Ghost Face teabag me once after downing me with only one teammate left. Broke free with Boil Over, Healed myself right under their nose, and counter-teabagged the hatch as I made my escape in front of them. Very satisfying. XD

  • I ignore the clickers as best I can. I know they're trying to lure me into a loop fest.

  • I'd like to see a slight buff to Boil Over. I'd like to see wiggling out be viable at tier 3 of the perk without needing any extra support from things like Petrified Oak.

  • My new girlfriend just started playing with me. She ended up as the last survivor. I start trying to guide her to the hatch (she jumped in without playing the tutorial) spectating her and trying to listen for it. Killer finds her, downs her, and carries her right to the hatch and let's her go. Only the second time I've seen it happen. Whether it was mercy or sportsmanship, I don't know, but it was good to see.

Damn, they trolled with flashlights, an easy to counter item that hurts the survivor more than it helps? CHANGE DIVERSION, TOO MANY PEOPLE ARE TROLLING WITH IT.

How does it hurt the Survivor more than it helps? I mean, personally for me that's true because I never have been able to use them, but when I play as the Killer, I absolutely hate going against the dang things. Doesn't seem to hinder them at all.

It was a night or so ago, but on Midwich. I did FOUR totems to try to avoid gen rushing. At first i thought it was a basement Bubba waiting with insidious, so I avoided the basement. But when i got to end screen, turns out it was Wraith.

Oh, I had one that none of us even heard the heartbeat. Killer didn't DC, but we got all 5 gens and the Exit gates without anyone seeing or hearing him at all.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/188159/did-this-killers-behavior-warrant-the-in-game-report

As the others have already said, this is clearly a style of play the Bubba is known for employing. Camping is a strategy that the DEV have validated time and time again. If you look at various Killer Perks you will see there are even Builds clearly intended to encourage it. Let me make a polite suggestion, purge the word "toxic" from your vocabulary. It is a meaningless word. It means whatever anyone WANTS it to mean. The only things you should be reporting people for is Hacks, excessive salty behavior, the many idiotic "isms," i.e. racism, sexism, etc., Exploiting bugs, and rage quits and disconnects that screw up the game. In fact, the reporting system kind of gives you a guide to what you should be reporting when you are in it.

Camping, tunneling, slugging, and the Mori are NOT something you should be reporting. I find people clicking their flashlights excessively and tea-bagging annoying, but I'm not reporting that either. Most of the time they have a tactical reason for doing it, i.e. they want me to chase them so their buddies can get something done. So forget about trying to interpret "toxic" behavior, and only report specific actions which clearly violate the game's rules. For example, I think people who post endless screeds and complaints here in the Forum or report people for normal game play are toxic. See how subjective it is? You are now toxic. Get my point?

Fair enough. You make a lot of valid points, and have done so in a manner more eloquent and polite than a lot of others, which I greatly appreciate. I see the point you're trying to make.

  • @KingFrost said:

I had one who was AFK the whole match, and we all depipped.

A night or two ago? Playing on the Gas Heaven map? I think I was in that one with you. 😂

Maybe you are new to the game but that's called basement bubba my friend.

You can't ban a player for camping/tunneling, because that's a strategy of the game.

I've been playing for a decent bit. I've dealt with Tunneling and Camping before, but nothing that bad.

  • I fully support this! There are several SCPs that could make great killers and have good lore to back them up!

  • @Gylfie said:

I don't really get why people say Legion is weak. I pretty much main them and do as well with them as I do with any other killer (I'm rank 2, playing against ranks 1-5). I think it's just about playing what you enjoy. If you play something 'weak' that you like, you're going to perform better than when you play something 'strong' that you really don't enjoy.

As for tips, don't try to swing too fast in Feral Frenzy. About 50% of the survivors I chase with Frenzy will try to 360 me as I try to lunge; let them do their juke first and then hit them. As I've read before, they also try to vault a pallet and immediately vault it again after you've vaulted it. Again, don't try to be too fast (but also not too slow because then they will successfully vault back). Usually, taking your time pays off.

If you stab a survivor with Frenzy and hear no one else, cancel it. If you stab a survivor with Frenzy and they start mending in the middle of nowhere, cancel it and down them.

As for my build, I use Surge, Thrilling, Pop and Tinkerer. It's been working wonders for me. At this point I feel like Surge, Thrilling and Pop are fixed slots in the build for me. I've been trying to combine it with different things, such as Enduring or Bamboozle (which are also great), but I've recently been having a lot of success with Tinkerer.

Using them lately has gotten me up to 12, and I have taken down as high as a 4 in a couple games. Running Discordance, Iron Maiden, Mad Grit, and Iron Grasp. I think The Legion tends to catch a lot of people off guard.

  • @Pipefish said:

I'd love Legion without Deep Wound so I could use my power to down a survivor instead of just injure them. That'd make legion arguably as good as nurse and spirit which I am all for!

As much as I would love to do that, I have to admit that the chain hit instadowns would probably over power Legion. You could slug a whole team in a matter of seconds. Unbreakable or Tenacity would be the only counters.

  • @MeatBycicle said:

Could you imagine if they removed this and changed legions power to just being able to 2 shot someone instantly. I'd take that exchange.

If what you are saying is make Frenzy hits instadowns, they would need to do something to rebalance the power itself because I would sweep teams by the chaining hits on survivors and there's no sport in that. I think a rework of the effect that bluffs the Legion would be nice thought.

  • I want to give them the BOTD but I think they were trying to pull a fast one me.

  • Can the map and key be used without the Gens being done? Tried to pull this stunt on Dead Dawg and couldn't find the hatch.

  • I'm making use of the Killer Instinct to try and hit every survivor with Frenzy in one go if I can. I know almost no one is going to drop from deep wound but to injury everyone helps. I'll use the speed to cross map sometimes. Looping and pallets I don't usually have a problem with.

They can’t blind you if you’re looking at a solid wall though. If you can’t find one then slugging and chasing off the friend might be a better option

I do my best to find the one hiding nearby and chase then off. By default now I target flashlight players first.

  • @NivlacACE said:

You have to be looking away before you pick them up, you cannot rotate once locked in the animation

I've tried that, but the still finagle their way in front of me. Most often it's with a buffed purple light as well so it takes less than a second to blind me. I hate to give them props for it, but I have to, I can't do ######### with the light as a survivor.

  • @Momentosis said:

Seems like you already know why and what utility it serves.

Blocked generators don't regress. This counters things like Ruin and Surge. Also protects against Pop and kicks in general.

I didn't realize a blocked generator doesn't regress even while under Ruin. Still seems kind of situational.

  • I don't know if it's different on PC but I'm on PS4 and can't even rotate while picking up a survivor, but I'm still vulnerable to the flashlight and if they have any add ons it's more than enough time to blind me

  • I usually ignore them because I know they are just trying to bait, or distract me. Shamed to say what *does* get me to chase them is when they constantly blind me during the pickup animation. I just get mad at that point and start targeting them out of revenge and anger.

  • The Hag is fun to play and effective with the right build and effective use of her traps.

  • I run both killer and survivor, and treat it like a matter of convenience, if I have the last 2 survivors in close proximity to one another, yes, I'm going to down them both if I can. I see it as playing smart and covering my bases. If one gets away, fine, go back for the one I already hit. If I know the hatch is visible, I'm looking for it too and making a note of it. As a Survivor, and yes I run SWF with one friend most often, if we know we're screwed, one of us getting away is better than none, so if the hatch is visible, yeah we'll quit struggling to let the other get away.

  • I don't see this on hits as much as I do immediate DC on hooks. Doesn't it hurt rank and count as a loss anyway?

  • I don't know how the environments differ from platform to platform, but I play PS4 and here is what I have noticed.

As The Killer, queue times vary but aren't usually that bad, playing from East Coast USA, I don't if or how they divide servers by region or otherwise. I play a lot of midday (11:00-14:00) and night (20:00-00:00) and my wait time isn't usually that bad, maybe 2-3 minutes. As a Rank 16, I have been put with all skill level of survivors from lower Reds down to base rank. I do see a fair amount of Green and Purple Survivors and they absolutely give me a challenge. I don't understand the "Gen Rushing" thing. I mean, what else are they supposed to do? I can usually tell if I have a premade group or even a 2-2 when they are well coordinated and run good interference. I just say GG and move on to the next match. I have only received hate mail once, and the only toxicity I have seen from survivors is gate taunting which I really don't care for and refuse to do as a Survivor, and I usually just rush them to cut it short. I also Main The Hag, sorry not sorry. I do think the matchmaking could be improved by taking Killer Level into account for when you're trying out someone new, e.g. Pyramid Head.

As the Survivor, I have an easier time finding a match as a Solo Survivor or when playing with a single friend who is on the West Coast, than I do when playing as a premade group of 4. Some Killers are more difficult and even annoying to go up against, e.g. Myers, Ghost Face, Leather Face. Most of my normal group hover around the 16 to 14 rank, and more often or not we get killers of about the same rank or lower, with occasionally getting a 12 or thereabouts that gives us a serious challenge or mows through us. We occasionally get a Killer that blatantly camps whichever survivor they have on the hook. It's annoying, but we usually just keep repairing and looking for the lucky moment to unhook them.
