Could be why the license renewal didn't happen and he's leaving. If not enough people are buying him, then from a financial/business perspective it's not worth paying for the license renewal. They'd wanna recoup the costs plus profits.
Well, the rights did go back to Clive Barker, it's possible they have to sign through him instead of the original company and that may involve a new contract altogether.

I'm a big fan of Elm Street, so I'm glad Freddy's getting his most goated rework, after Skull Merchant I can't think of anyone who needs one. I'd like to see one for Blight, but I'm not sure he NEEDS one if that makes sense.

Just had this happen to me, the Mikela on my team bled out because I couldn't do gens, I couldn't heal, I couldn't snap out of it. I was a Bill standing there useless.

That too, there comes a point where you realize the dog is completely worthless because his AI is terrible so you only use him when the survivor is running in a straight line.
Of course the Survivor is very likely to realize this if said survivor knows anything about Houndmaster and how she plays, meaning the survivor already knows "Do not run in a straight line while escaping". Worse the tell for "Chase" is so easy to here, a loud whistling sound, so even if I am running straight ahead that will be enough to go "Oh right, go slightly to the left"
Meaning your option is to just use "Search" to clear a generator, and otherwise act like an M1 killer.
Had a game with Houndmaster recently where the dog never touched me, but I still died because once she saw someone she did not let them go. -

I put Trickster above Skull Merchant. I don't like Trickster much but at least he looks like what he's supposed to be, a crazy edgy flamboyant killer pop star. That's his one thing, and it's done well, even if it's not to my tastes. Skull Merchant's character on the other hand is so confused and muddled with so many different themes that it comes out as an indistinguishable poorly-written slop. She's all those things you listed and she does none of them well.
Personally I think Houndmaster could look more like a pirate, her aesthetic is more "noblewoman" than "brutal marauder", but it's fine, and I would put her above both Trickster and Skull Merchant in terms of appearances.
I am of two minds about Trickster.
I absolutely loathe that he doesn't appeal to any of my darker horror movie-inspired fantasies about "What would it be like to be the killer?", which DBD tries to cater to; in fact I'd argue that that's the whole point. Something he has in common with Wesker, but even then with Wesker there's still the "Dark Fantasy" of being a supervillain (As he feels more like that than a slasher), the memes (Chris! I only have 7 minutes to eat your Peanut Buster!), and the fact that I'm a big Resident Evil fan..
With Trickster being an original character, he doesn't have a pre-existing piece of media for me to fall back on if the execution isn't stellar, and the only memes that seem to exist about Trickster is how much Trickster sucks.. Which is funnily enough the only real joke to his many forced cameos in "Hooked On You"And while Trickster does feel like a super villain, that villain is "Jared Leto as The Joker!" and I don't think ANYONE actually WANTS that no matter what headspace they're in.
There's also the fact that his name doesn't make any sense, he's "The Trickster!", it honestly feels like a joke based on how much he looks like the Jared Leto Jokester (I imagine his name would be "Jokester" if DC didn't own that trademark as well), I know they tried to salvage a little by giving him a tome that basically says "Oh he's very good at gaslighting people, which is kinda trickstery I guess"
But still with a name like "The Trickster", I expect a character who's like a murderous version of Sun Wukong or Loki, or maybe even something inspired by the Fairfolk, something/someone that's known for using deception for their own amusement and benefit. Nothing in Trickster's kit or in-game character suggests this.
However, my "Other mind" on Trickster says; maybe he DOES fit a fantasy.The "Evil Rocker", which has been the subject of a few horror stories. Back in the 70's/80's there was this idea that Rock was "The Devil's Music", with bizarre rumors about concerts being a front for satanic rituals and how playing the music backwards reveals messages from the Devil himself!
But this was a Western Phenomenon and it revolved around Rock Music (though as the mainstream jumped from Rock to Pop, you saw fingers being pointed at the likes of Katy Perry and Lady Gaga instead of KISS or Ozzy Osbourne.)We know this as being a part of the "Satanic Panic"
Trickster kinda misses the mark on being part of this trope due to being associated with KPop and a culture that never actually found musicians suspect.
And this part of me thinks: Maybe Trickster's fine, but his theme "KPop" is just something that doesn't interest me, and them not really leaning into the culture shock of the Satanic Panic but instead going the opposite route of "The danger is in plain sight, but no one sees it!" (Which ironically was a claim of the Satanic Panic…) means that the "theme" is fine, it's just not delievered in a packaging that speaks to my life experience, but might speak to anothers. Meaning Trickster would be merely subjectively bad to me personally, but not objectively bad as a killer overall
Anyway that's just my two cents

Getting back to Houndmaster, I will admit she does have a similar problem to Trickster in that you can see the trope that's being embodied; For Trickster it's the "Evil Rocker" as I said, and for Houndmaster it's "Ghost Pirate"
The problem is while Trickster seems detached from Evil Rocker by being a K-Pop artist from a nation that did NOT undergo the Satanic Panic and being a pretty boi instead of a bad boi…. Houndmaster is even more detached because the pirate theme is there, it's just not as overt as people may have wanted. The issue is there's very little about Houndmaster aside from lore and her attire (which could be mistaken for "Noblewoman" if you don't know her story) that really screams pirate, and while everyone loves her dog Snug… Pirates are known to rattle their swords and fire flintlocks, not throw dogs at people…. Unless Blackbeard fired dogs out of his cannons which proceeded to stick the landing unharmed everytime and proceed to chew up the British Navy who's ships they were know board, and this is just common knowledge known to literally everyone except me.There's also the problem that horror stories about Pirates tend to be about ghosts lost at sea, which the name of the chapter kinda alludes to (Doomed Course), and.. Houndmaster's not even dead, so she is tangentially related to her fantasy at best.
While I applaud Houndmaster for not being a straight up spooky scary skeleton with a pirate hat, rattling a saber with a bottle of Yo-ho-ho; she may be a little "Too original" for people to get what she's going for.
Personally I like the Houndmaster, the Carribean accent when she commands Snug around, the fact that her cane is actually a sword, the fact that "Funny dog character" is a staple of Pirates of the Carribean (the most mainstream series that involves ghost pirates) and the fact that she while she doesn't have an eyepatch she does have a weird eye thing… makes her close enough to me (It helps that I associate big-boned darker skinned lady with accent with the Monkey Island's Voodoo Lady character, who although isn't a pirate herself is.. again tangentially related to pirates. Also I really love both Monkey Island and the Voodoo Lady character, so there's that….)
But I understand if others feel she's not quite "Piratey" enough
I think that's the real issue, her design just doesn't play enough to her theme. They avoided cliches to do something more original, but without those cliches she's hard to recognize.
Edit: Oh I forgot to list why I like Skull Merchant more than Trickster. It boils down to, I like the idea of a tech-based killer who uses surveillance devices to track her prey and her kit plays to that idea well; it's just the lore justification for why she's this way is nonsensical. It appeals to me more than "I throw knives and that somehow has something to do with Kpop and being a Trickster!"

Being alerted by drones is more fun than "Let me stop looking for survivors to see if there are any survivors where my cameras can see them! Even though the survivors will AVOID these areas because that's what I'd do if I had anything resembling a survival instinct!" -

It's a shame, because with Houndmaster she's clearly a pirate with a doggo friend.
With Skull Merchant, I still can't tell what they're going for. Evil CEO? Comic Book Fangirl? Most Dangerous Game? Discount Predator? Like it felt like they had multiple ideas and just couldn't narrow it down to one.
I still like both characters more than Trickster though.

Maybe as costumes, they only do like two licensed killers a year and I'd imagine they wanna save it for the big fish like Friday The 13th (I'll be legtimately surprised if it doesn't happen in 2025 or early 2026) Five Nights At Freddy's, BioShock, Mortal Kombat, or Candyman
As for which characters? Eh any that can be translated into DBD killers… maybe one where Victor's one of the monkeys?

Once again, we don't see anything. It's a "fade to black" type scenario where the grisly happenings are not directly shown.
And there's also the fact that Springtrap's entire backstory is that he's a guy mangled in a suit, a mangling that happens on screen even, heck in his second appearance his arm is reduced to fragments of bone.

There are human eyes hanging out of the Freddy suit. But once again, we do not actually SEE them get pushed out of anyone's head and the final presentation is so cartoonish and lacking any actual blood that you'd be forgiven for thinking they're just plastic and part of the costume.

I'll reiterate. FNaF is rated 12. It's suitable for tweens and teens. They absolutely could not get away with the level of violence you're saying the game contains.
Remember in Sister Location when Michael Afton has his stomach ripped open to have Ennard use him as a friggin suit?

Naw, straight up the Hook Respawn needs to be scrapped. I'm a Killer Main and as a killer main, the only time wiggling actually works for the survivor is if I can't get to a hook in time. If hooks respawn, this will never happen and wiggling will be a non-feature. There will be no level of strategy involved for me as a killer if it's assured that if I pick someone up, I WILL get them on a hook.
Sure survivors could still use Flashlights or MAYBE Pallets, but.. what's the point of the wiggle if it will literally never work now as opposed to "Maybe during the late game" ? -

Personally given how omnipotent Freddy seems in certain movies (especially Freddy's Dead, but that's not exactly the best example as most people hate that movie and to be fair it is pretty bad), I was surprised The Nightmare didn't need a Mark of Negation. (Though that's a combination of, BHVR hadn't thought of that plot point yet and Freddy seems to be the character with the most mandates restricting what can be done with him)

Considering that both Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Toxic Avenger & Friday the 13th have had some type of collaborative effort where they branch out to different things, it's not unrealistic to assume that the ANOES IP itself will have some type of similar thing going for it since nostalgia sells and companies loves money. However until then, what we have is what we're gonna get.
Also with the exception of specifically Solomon Grundy & Swamp Thing, i'm completely against any DC or Marvel chapters in general, as well as against characters like Homelander from The Boys
Homelander's pretty much the only thing wearing a cape that I'd want in DBD, as he's geniunely one of the only characters from modern media I geniunely find horrifying, and I doubt he's showing up since The Boys is ending after season 5.
I think you're right, eventually whoever holds the license will realize that by limiting Freddy so much they're only passing up free money.
I'd love to see a Killer Klown or Toxie come to DBD, maybe the former can be a skin for Clown and the latter could be his parallel universe counterpart Noxious Offender… or write some lore about how Toxie's Tromatons have been hijacked by the Entity so now they compel him to kill Survivors instead of Evil Doers
I pretty much agree with your statements on Marvel and DC, I'd be open to a character for that, but they'd need to be gritty and edgy. I mean Heath Ledger Joker levels of dark… Joker's been portrayed as a mass murderer with a clown motif before, so I think he could work.
I actually cringed when my boyfriend and I were playing the game the other night and he actually wanted Deadpool to be a killer…

I mean makes sense, the Ash Williams I know would have used makeshift weapons found in the trial to beat the ever loving hell out of Michael Myers, used his knife to carve up the Unknown, and used Unknown's ax to hammer Pinhead's pins in.
I guess Evil Dead as a series flipflops between action, horror, and comedy so rapidly that Ash being helpless isn't something I question at face value.

- I've worked retail before, most parents barely understand that FNAF is a horror game to begin with and they definitely don't know what DBD is
- The most popular "kid's game" these days is Fornite, a game where Rick Sanchez from Adult Swim's Rick & Morty, which is full of sex and violence, can shoot Michael Myers in the head with a realistic shotgun

This is not true at all.
Most of the violence in the original FNaF games is left to the imagination. I.e. it's implied or happens in a retro graphics style where there's simply not enough detail to warrant being described as gory.
Compare that to DbD, which explicity shows people having their fingers cut off, tongues ripped out, put on meat hooks, etc.
In this first game we see the player's eyes gouged out and hanging out of a Freddy suit

It's not Wes Craven's estate that wouldn't play ball, in fact they were looking for new outfits for freddy at one point as well as continuing the original movies, it's specifically Warner Bros that doesn't wanna play ball because they are notorious when it comes to lending their IPs out, as well as being stingy about it.
They are more willing to let companies under their own umbrella use their IPs than they are in allowing companies outside their umbrella in using their IPs.

I guess it really does depend on Scott's stance on M-Rated games…
Then again, it's not like Dead By Daylight is that much gorey than a FNAF game (A REAL FNAF game, not Security Breach), it's not like it's straight up Mortal Kombat 1 with Liu Kang sucking people's entrails out via black hole. And Scott is big on fanservice, and is perfectly aware of how many people want Springtrap in the game.I'd imagine the "The game is Rated M!" was more in response to people who wanted a Scooby Doo or Ghostbusters chapter (Both of which I still kinda want, but I understand why it's not likely.. as much as I want to re-enact the fanfilm Freddy Vs. Basically, New Line (who went defunct in 2008 and was absorbed into one of Warner Bros' subsidiaries, so now it's Warner Bros that owns the IP) only uses Remake Freddy with video game related things, happened with both Mortal Kombat and Dead by Daylight so far.
With DBD specifically, bhvr were originally denied the IP, however Warner Bros changed their minds later and offered them the remake, when bhvr asked for the original, Warner Bros told them that they themselves weren't ready to offer that one and that the remake was all that they were willing to offer bhvr and that it was a take it or leave it offer.
Of course that was all 2 years prior to the Wes Craven estate re-obtaining the rights to the US Parr of the IP with Warner Bros still retaining the international part of the IP, so if BHVR hadn't obtained the IP prior and decided to do it now, chances are that they would be more unlikely to succeed in obtaining the IP.
Why wouldn't Wes Craven's estate wanna play ball?

Apparently, New Line Cinema failed to understand that Dead By Daylight was a video game and mistook it for some movie tie-in merchandise. Because of this New Line Cinema kept saying it only made sense to promote the newest movie, and Englund wasn't in it, Behavior kept going back and forth and when NLC still didn't get it they went "Okay fine, we'll just take remake Freddy", fearing that it was this or nothing.
At least that's how I heard it. -

Mori's are rare, consumed even if they don't get to be used in the map, and require the survivor to be more or less in a losing position to begin with, there is no unfair advantage.

I've literally never heard of most of these, but Parasyte would be heckin' epic, and since the Parasyte has to sleep from time to time it would explain why the sruvivor we'd get isn't using his.
While I've never seen Chainsaw Man, that's a cool designDeath Note I could kinda see if Light was a survivor and Ryuk had turned on him
Never heard of any of the other shows.
Personally the anime license I want is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure with Yoshikage Kira & Killer Queen being the killer and the survivor being Rohan Kishibe or Josuke (Just say that the entity isn't letting them use their stand, or something)
