Things like aim assist is something that would be HIGHLY argued against. Ppl dont want to go against a killer that just never misses a M2. As far as stick sensitivity goes, im pretty sure "camera sensitivity" already affects only the right stick. I dont see how they'd effect the left stick since thats just killer movement speed. Maybe im overlooking something there.
Dead zone adjustment... is that a thing other games have found a fix for? Thought that was just a flaw of the hardware itself.
Yeah, just go into OW2's controller settings.
Modern games have modern settings.

Aim assist, aim smoothing, individual stick sensitivities, dead zone adjustments, etc etc

There have been massive matchmaking and server issues the entire event. That, coupled with the new DC penalty system, has made it outright PUNISHING to play during the supposed biggest event.

Yea it was already kind of in the game for custom lobbies they just added it with a matchmaker for the main game mode. They didn’t even add the emotes until the patch after swf.
You can clearly hear the game director himself explain the game concept being lack of information in the video, which of course would not be a thing with communication.
Similar to how the original design intent was hiding stealth and being scared the design of the game changed into what it is now.So you have anything to suggest SWF was always intended? I would be interested to see that as someone who has also been following the game from back then.
Pretty sure all the streams mentioning it are gone and I doubt the vote is still around, but I am pretty sure that it happened. They didn't have time to finish it, but obviously wanted people to play with their friends in some way.
Cote was describing the game as a whole. Clearly, the vision has changed. They still wanted the game to be a hide n seek game, and looping wasn't even really a thing back then yet. That's how early it was. I'd argue that the introduction of aura perks shows that even if they did hold that vision, it didn't last long at all.

Just jumping in to say that SWF wasn’t designed and allowed in game from the start.
The game was initially designed to be solo players who couldn’t communicate and a lack of information about your teammates, the killer, and their perks. It was added due to popular demand later in the 1.0.3 patch. There is this interview with MCote in 2016 when Nurse was added describing the lack of information part around 1:15 mark
Cool, as someone who was sort of following the game at that point, here's a fun fact!
The Devs wanted SWF and KYF in the game at launch, but they put it up to a vote because they couldn't finish both in time. The community chose KYF. SWF was always intended, even prior to launch.
Even if what you claim is true, which it isn't, then that idea held true until Nurse. Who was added in 2016, a couple of months post-launch…nearly ten years ago. And then SWF was added on….the 11th of July 2016.

My entire post which cant be found in feedback section is based off of fixing and reinforcing current MMR system since it cant keep track of such short player numbers, 50k avg or lower is not enough for MMR system to work without flaws, if they make it any tighter it will be worse, if any looser, it will get worse.
The game requires machine learning system that helps and not punishes, like i will keep saying i dont want to punish SWFs
Those which run perks that can be doubled in worth when used in comms shall be given a decreased value of worth, only that.
Same goes for meta killers and their perks.
AND only if their match history shows they have been winning more and more because of playing in SWFs with those certain perk builds it will either decrease the values of those perks entirely for entire match or just notify to exchange some perks to retain the value, so it will be more like a risk & reward system.
Either they keep playing their build and system will see if they win or lose and be like alright so they have been losing now i did a good job, or if they keep winning, its not because of those perks.
I'm a mechanical engineer, so you'll have to forgive me, but why would they implement that system when the one they have fulfills their goals?

I never said i had problem with SWF, i never said SWF should be removed as a mechanic, i myself said i do sometimes rarely play with buddies but mostly solo q, and i never said i main killer, i always said i stand neutral grounds.
I am a human too and hold a grudge too, i am againts meta ability killers who stack perks on top of that to fully mop the floor without much skill involved + running DPI trigger builds and macros to help them too.
I am also againts people who stack perks based off of the fact they play with their buddies, like the perk profiles exist, majority of people i met here who play with their buddies dont run punishing perks either, but on forums its a slight 1% players but the rest of those who do probably most likely very much use their comms in a bad unfair advantage to stack current perk values + boost their buddies mmr because they simply hate playing casuals.
I love playing survivors its fast queues.
I love playing myers as a stalk stealth build it feels nice to hook and get 3 kills to feel like a proper win.
They can go in hatch i dont mind, i am a respectful player sportmanlike towards everyone, i dont even hold grudge when im in match i spread around play like i normally would no matter if its swf or not i treat everyone like they are in a party, if they underperform i dont play as aggressive i do it to get points and gradings over kills and wins and help them too (not in a boosting way or anything like that)
So then what exactly is your argument?

Im just trying to see something from my own amusement, since at this point comms in a avg sized map with right perks can give SWF an edge similar to what hacking does since both are external
Well, clearly not so much an edge. We know the Kill Rates against SWF and it still favors Killer.
Regardless, SWF was designed and allowed into the game from the very start. Hacking has always been against the rules. One is a mechanic, one is cheating.

Pre-release was gr8. Some busted stuff and bad apples, but not super comp. Lots of wiggle room. Though every PVP game is the best right at the beginning.
I can't even say BHVR does top down balancing, but that's why it could never work in a game like DBD. New players shouldn't be this frustrated for as long as they are. There should be a sense of accomplishment very early on and like they're figuring it out. As is, it's way too punishing.
Didn't notify me of your reply, my bad.
Yeah, BHVR has really selective balancing. Sometimes it does seem top-down, other times it really doesn't. I'm not really sure there's anything to be done, significantly, for the new player experience at this point. DBD is so much more bloated than it was when I started, that's a double-edged sword. WAY more licenses and Killers/Survivors to draw in new players, but WAY harder to keep them with the insurmountable grind and knowledge cliff.

What does your moral compass tell you?
Like this is not a trick question i just want to know the answer to how people think so i dont waste my time in trying to explain what is wrong and what is okay.
Are you the type of person that tells its users "this is okay" and then go ahead and use it or are you the type of person who will still go with your own moral compass and consider maybe its not okay maybe its wrong.
Lets take an example of a minecraft server hypixel, they allow certain mods that enter the so called "gray zone" and yes gray zones still exists no matter what.
Just because company says that its okay does not mean its okay by human logic.
Their reason and answer might lie in money status and growth.
Hypixel allows users to run certain mods for their skyblock and prompts like removing keyinputdelay.
So what about other users that get beaten because of that just because a company allows it does not mean its morally okay.
You are arguing morality over playing with friends in a video game?
-
Could be wrong, but probably not.
It isn't going to be better than being able to heal yourself or do gens faster. It isn't gonna draw the beamer addicts away from flashlights.
It's better than Keys and Maps, I guess, even after the changes. It seems like it's designed for stealth players, but every other update for the last two years has been killing off that playstyle.
-
@Mandy said:
The anti-face camp is not going to prevent camping, preventing player agency is never the intention with any system - it's giving counterplay to something. You're getting face camped and the bar is going up, you will be able to get off the hook….which if the killer was face-camping previously you couldn't have done without a trade, now you don't need to trade with the survivor on the hook.
If a killer wants to camp a survivor they can of course do so - we are not removing that, what we're doing is trying to give the survivors tools to counter it - so you can unhook yourself, take chase etc. If the killer is camping, the other survivors should be doing generators, making the killer effectively lose the match.
If that was the intention, then it is my opinion that the team needs to revisit this system, because it does not prevent forced hook trades.

Yea I would think that there is definitely a lot of overlap with killer power usage, versus their counter-play can get a bit excessive/non-obvious for newer players.
It doesnt just apply in chase but applies to like "Things you dont do versus X killer"
Like being overly altruistic on hook saves when Oni's power for instance.
Or meyers and his addons.
List goes on its more than 3 or 4 counter plays thoughor understanding safe areas versus certain Killers.
What is safe against Myers isn't safe against Nurse.

However, most killer powers are countered in the same ways. You counter Huntress hatchets in a very similar way to Deathslinger. Also, most killers in the game are weak to shift+w, which is arguably the EASIEST survivor strategy. You're not learning 35 different counterplays. You're learning around three or four. And, again, most of it is easily reproduced and mechanically simple. For instance, once you know to crouch behind a low wall vs Nemesis, you can easily do it over and over again.
Not only that, but shift+w and pre-running allows even below average survivors to have reasonably long chases. (I should know, it's what I do.)
I guess what I'm saying is that there really isn't THAT much to learn. Watching a few videos when a new killer comes out is usually enough to know how to counter that killer, and applying that knowledge is usually relatively simple.
Ah, but are they countered in the same way? You have to give significantly more leeway to Huntress hatchets than to a Deathslinger shot. They are countered in the same way as Huntress and DS are played in the same way. There's overlap, to be sure, but they are fundamentally different.
Shift+W only works in specific scenarios, much like every other strategy. I find that to be a gross generalization.
Perhaps for you or I, it's simple. I've had the opportunity to teach a new player, and it is extremely overwhelming. I have nearly eight years of experience I'm attempting to condense down into a palatable information dump for them. Saying that new players just need to know how to watch some videos and they'll be fine is, once again in my opinion, a gross generalization and one of the reasons why the new player experience is one of the worst in gaming.

@TimberGoingDown said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3958398#Comment_3958398
I disagree.
I think that survivor is easier mechanically. At the end of the day, it's simple third person movement with an occasional button press. You could argue that there are a handful of loops in the game that are difficult to get a fast vault at, but besides that, the act of looping a tile is ridiculously simplistic.
A lot of Killers are quite simple mechanically as well, so I don't think there's some massive gulf.
As usual, the difference really is just knowledge. As a Survivor, you need to have knowledge of all Killers and we have, what, 35 or so now? That's a HUGE amount of knowledge to need to learn and you really have no control over when or how you learn it.
As a Killer, you can choose to play as many or as few Killers as you like. Every Survivor is the same and has the same basic abilities. Learning perks will definitely be a pain, but that's also true of Survivor.

@Sjady said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3958382#Comment_3958382
Honestly, it's incredibly frustrating to see people making overly simplistic claims about how killer is the "easier role." If you genuinely believe that, I challenge you to step out of the comfort zone and play 20–30 matches with an off-meta killer — no Nurse, no Blight, no Spirit, no Springtrap. Play someone like Trapper, Pig, or Clown, and grind for a bit. Then come back and tell me killer is the easier role.
Because survivor — outside of coordinated groups — has basically become a QTE simulator. You're glued to a gen for most of the match, and one mistake by your team or a killer running heavy slowdown and proxying hooks can snowball everything fast. Yes, that can feel helpless. But on the killer side, the pressure is relentless. You’re constantly forced to make impactful decisions: who to tunnel, when to slug, which gens to give up, which side of the map to control. And if you try to play fair and hook everyone equally, good luck getting 12 hooks against a competent SWF.
So no — killer isn't simply “easier.” It gives you more agency, sure, but it also puts you under nonstop pressure. This debate needs more nuance, and it should be based on actual experience across a wide variety of killers, not just the top-tier ones that can carry players by themselves.
Being under more pressure doesn't mean the role is more difficult, just less accessible, which is a whole different issue, though still one worth discussing, I feel.
Back to the topic at hand, objectively, Killer is easier than Survivor. The game is, currently, designed to favor the Killer. We've seen Killers go on 2000+ win streaks, even Killers like Clown have gone on 400+ game win streaks. These "low-tier" Killers you've suggested? They function just fine for most players, with some specialists pushing them far beyond what people thought possible.
Whether or not this is a problem is a debate, but it seems to be a different one than what you're having.

Is this because of that Choy video or is this the bi-weekly everyone argue thread?

Facecamping wasn't about netting kills it was about a kill. A kill that sometimes turned into many kills because survivors couldn't help themselves.
And that functionally hasn't changed.

I actually tested this back in the day with old Bubba. Can't remember the exact loadout, but I remember doing corrupt to have slowdown that didnt require any action from me, along with NOED at the end. I might be able to find a picture later. I actually got a surprising amount of 4ks from facecamping with the saw up.
Fair enough.
If the Survivors played perfectly, you shouldn't have gotten more than two Kills. Admittedly, that's asking a lot.
Regardless, AFC has been a functional failure if it intended to prevent those circumstances and situations. If it was literally only meant to move Killers a second away from hook, then I guess it worked.
-
@RpTheHotrod said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3957433#Comment_3957433
I don't see many issues now that AFC is a thing with bubbas. He can't just literally sit there and press a button and get guaranteed downs. He HAS to be on the move and chase someone, and unless all the survivors are surgically attached to each other, him getting them all down won't be easy for him. It makes a huge difference that he actually has to be on the move with AFC being a thing. Have someone bait his chain saw. If he gives chase, the other person unhooks for free. If he immediately goes back for the hook, his chainsaw will run out before he can down anyone and you can go for a quick standard save attempt.
Facecamping with Bubba never netted you more than two Kills.
The issue was that there was no way to realistically unhook, ie, normal gameplay.

basement bubba/basement chest protector bubba
a bubba would camp basement with insidious with or without a survivor in it (usually with a survivor in it)
i don't see bubbas anymore tho
And now?
Bubba can camp around Shack and still get two downs. The method may have changed, but the outcome is the same. I hardly think anyone would devote time to a system that was only meant to change the method and not the outcome. -
Can't say much as Killer, but as Survivor I've spawned 99% of the time with another two Survivor in my immediate FoV.
-
@RpTheHotrod said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3957414#Comment_3957414
Because certain killers, cough Bubba, could force a no win situation on rescue attempts. With his aoe one shot, no one can take a hit and a followup person getting the unhook. Essentialy, a facecamping bubba meant that person wasn't getting rescued. With some distance from the hook, there's some actual counter play since the bubba can't just sit there and spam his chain saw forcing people to come to him. Instead, he has to move around and chase which gives time for others to come in for the rescue. It turns one singular point where everyone must come to him to a more broader area where he can't simply hit multiple people simultaneously by standing in one place. If he sticks around the hook for too long, they'll unhook themselves. If he puts some distance, then sure he can chase off one rescuer but it leaves the hook open for the followup unhooker.
Moving him 16 meters away does not fix that issue. You are still dead if you go for the save, he has no reason to leave that 16m radius AND he'll likely down both the rescuer and the rescued Survivor.
The way I see it is this:
IF AFC was designed to just remove the act of facecamping while not actually fixing any of the scenarios it caused, then it works as intended.
IF AFC was designed to limit no-win unhook scenarios, then it is not working as intended, since MANY Killers are completely unaffected by it.
