So mccote lied in that interview?
Misspoke more likely or was speaking of design philosophy in-general. There were VERY few aura perks at that point.
We know they had SWF in the works prior to the launch of the game. Whether or not they expected the game to last ten years after said launch is another story, I think.

I'm sensing, given I know you despise this killer... that individual killer MMR might be playing a factor here...
You're obviously the best person to assess it, so will take your word... but Skull Merchant is so laughably easy to beat, I struggle to see how any decent survivors fall foul of her scan lines... they do nothing against people who know what they are doing...
Not even really the lines themselves, but their presence and the fact they gave on command Undetectable. I've gotten grabs, hits for free and great positioning because of that Undetectable.
Likewise, I think the idea is to rotate the drone lines? They arent super threatening, though the Hindered has gotten me hits, but they change how Survivors play a tile, so they help me a lot. I also think nobody really knows how to play against her. I actually did play a fair amount of her on release, because people were casting doubt on her being able to hold people in matches, and also not really being good outside of that.
They weren't the super craziest, but they were good enough.

Can you please go play her and actually try to use her drones? They are worthless…
She is pure M1 killer with undetectable on command, that's it. What killer is supposed to be worse than her?she isn't a bottom-tier 40% KR Killer or anything.
Like kill rates ever display how strong killer is… I have played her lately and it's hilarious survivors give up against her even now.
Yeah, I literally just did.
I got a lot of value from Drones.

That's different than selling a product and then intentionally breaking it so I don't want to use it. Imagine I sold you an Iphone, then after you gave me your money, I spiked it on the ground. It's still TECHNICALLY usable, but 90% of the screen is blank. Then, I promised to get you an entirely different phone than the one you paid for at some undefined later date, then kept putting it off because I couldn't decide which crappy phone to give you.
so exactly like selling the game with the promise of optimizing it, like putting 60 fps on consoles, and then just not doing that and going radio silent for three years.
Or reworking Freddy. Or dumpstering Legion for three full years.

Before my time, I guess. All I know is that I paid money for a character, and more for cosmetics. And they intentionally gutted that character to make me not want to play her while they take their sweet time doing nothing for 8 months, pump out a couple of crappy MS Paint pictures, go BACK to the drawing board because their ideas are so bad, then delay the planned rework date to TWO YEARS after she got gutted. Yeah, that's messed up. And if you don't think it's messed up, I hope it happens to your favorite killer next.
Uh, alright, slightly aggressive for no reason.
BHVR pushed NFT's, straight-up marketed them using official accounts, when Pinhead was added. This was, uh, not a popular choice and they were absolutely lambasted for it. I know we've never seen @Orion since, which is sad.
They also told people that they'd be getting 60 FPS onto Consoles, which never materialized. Huge false advertising moment right there, and both are worse than what happened to SM.
It isn't like this thing with SM hasn't happened before.

Yeah, they did. I might keep trying but more slowly but it just wasn't vibing with me lol
-
@TimberGoingDown said:
Let me get this straight. They essentially deleted a character that people paid good money for because they didn't want people to play her while they worked on the rework… and they're delaying it to AT LEAST 2026?
They either need to buff her back to her 2.0 version or issue refunds for the character and all cosmetics purchased. This is absolutely ridiculous, and might be the most shady thing Behavior has ever done.
Weren't here for the NFT debacle?

@GeneralV said:
Well, my thanks to Puzzled Storage for asking the question. I created a Reddit account earlier today specifically to ask about Skull Merchant, but apparently you cannot type anything in the subreddit if your account isn't older than two weeks, so my question was immediately deleted.
But anyway, I would like to quickly propose a discussion about what is actually written here, because it looks a bit concerning.
It starts out great with "retaining trap playstyle". That's excellent, really. However, the other two I think are a bit scary. "Remove passive lethality" is odd, imho. Because that is kinda the point of a trap killer: the active part of their playstyle is setting traps, the web of traps they create passively acquires results.
Trapper, for instance, doesn't control his traps. He controls their strategic placement, but they automatically trap a survivor if they step on it. So, it seems a bit contradictory to move away from passive threats while retaining trap playstyle… unless they mean like the original design, where the drones applied the exposed but they didn't injure you, then it is okay.
The drone buddy can be bad if it remains the way it was. In the last design preview it was basically a mid-range M2, which I strongly believe Skull Merchant shouldn't have, much like the dashes from both previews. Unless this drone does something else entirely, I am personally not a fan of its inclusion.
It is hard to judge based on a single post and we still don't have all the information but I am worried. Very much so.
Speaking of SM, since the dude got banned, I'm gonna call it at 8 wins in a row. Queues are just too brutal right now.
-
In my experience with her, I haven't felt she really needs buffs. She's weaker, to be sure, but she isn't a bottom-tier 40% KR Killer or anything.
I don't think she's in a good spot, since popping a drone down seems to work a little too well and other playstyles a little too not working at all.

That logic doesn't work.
The percentage of players that are frequently ragequitting, is low enough, that if BHVR found a way to magically ban them all, then the game would still be fine.
As in, I can simultaneously believe the majority of players that frequently ragequit, are doing so purely because of selfish and unacceptable reasons, and still believe the game isn't "doomed".
Someone isnt quite telling the truth then.
Either the epidemic isn't that bad or it is. Pick one.
Either a significant portion of your games are being affected or there's not actually that many people quitting.

"Like we discussed, if you truly think that most players will DC or suicide at the drop of a hat, for no other reason than ego; well then there isn't really anything to be done, and the game is doomed no matter what course we pursue."
I keep repeating myself on this point. Removing the knee jerk reaction is doing alot. Its NOT doomed. When ppl go on the hook and think "the game is over cuz all Nemesises tunnel" and then they have time to realize they were wrong and the game ISNT screwed just because they were first down, I dont think they're 100% guaranteed to sabotage the game like they could with hook suicides.
And continuing to repeat, I don't think that's an issue.
I do not support a continuation without attempting to try to fix issues.
-
@LordGlint said:

You HAVE been contesting that though. You keep saying on this thread that if ppl can't give up or DC, they'll just "soft quit" instead. Im saying thats not necessarily the case when people realize their assumed result after their first down doesnt always happen. They're given enough time to see that the game ISNT automatically a bust because the Pig downed them first.
Having some punishment is fine, but that is not what I foresee happening.
People will continue to soft-quit. Other people will start calling for other avenues of quitting to be policed as well. We cannot police everything. We already saw that when given the chance, BHVR will start grabbing innocent players and banning them.
Changing attitudes of players isn't easy, but it can be done. Forcing them into matches that they don't want to be in may hide the issue for a while, but it won't fix the underlying causes.
Like we discussed, if you truly think that most players will DC or suicide at the drop of a hat, for no other reason than ego; well then there isn't really anything to be done, and the game is doomed no matter what course we pursue. If, instead, you believe that this "epidemic" is in fact, a culmination of different issues plaguing the game for some time, well, that would lend itself to my theory, which is that we can alleviate common areas of frustration.

So someone going down when all the map resources are avaliable and survivors are at their strongest is somehow something the devs need to fix?. Lets say the devs adress the imbalances of the 3v1 survivors can now win on a 3v1 scenario, this means a 4v1 matchup would be even more skewed in the survivors favor (as if we balance for a 3 v 1 to win its obvious a 4 v1 would be stronger) so survivors would have the upper hand until the killer achieves a 2 v 1 , this would not only horribly punish the fools that play for 4 hooks as they would be versing survivors at their strongest through all the match, it would subject all players to a similar expireence. Better yet we would still have dcs because even if you spawn in eyre of crows with a siringe, full on meta build but the killer gets an early down because of a good use of his power, the survivor will still dc.
How convenient that you ignored the part where I said we need to fix the balancing of the 4v1 and 3v1.

All im saying is it IS helpful. Before we had this, ppl would dip out after afew seconds if they didnt like the map, killer, ect. Its not a perfect system, but the idea that the steps BHVR have implemented is completely useless is a joke. If the guys in the pictures had to stick around longer than 15 seconds, they would've learned they arnt going against "Forever Freddy" as soon as the first hit showed Thana wasn't being used and they took the time to see Dying light wasn't either.
The longer a survivor is in the trial, the more they get to see that not EVERY match is going against some preconceived stereotype.
I have not contested that, have I?
I want to start working on issues, because I do not believe the majority of players play that way.

You can say the ppl nowadays arnt doing their absolute best, but adding restrictions to ragequitting is definitely nice for avoiding stuff like THIS.
What else do you propose?
We have DC penalties and you can't suicide.

@LordGlint said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3967695#Comment_3967695
I feel like the removal of the self unhook queue did alot. Ppl have the immediate doom expectations when they first get hooked... but by the time they get unhooked and realize they actually ARNT getting tunneled by a 4 gen slowdown killer, they tend to start playing.
I can't say for sure, but I think if that guy who ragequit against my Pig DIDNT have the unhook queue, he would've been able to tell that I was heading to the other side of the map to check gens and it would've turned into a completely normal experience.
Ive seen no one suicide, obviously.
Haven't seen too many DC's. Seen a lot more just either not really trying, giving up, intentional misplays etc etc.
-
@LordGlint said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3967669#Comment_3967669
Ppl hate going down...period. I'd have ppl ragequit after going down against Pig with just an average balanced build. The moment they got the queue to self unhook, they were hitting it. You can't really blame it on balance or unfair gameplay when ppl were having that reaction against EVERYTHING.
Then the game is doomed no matter what, if the vast majority DC instantly.

Agreed, how can we avoid the biggest pain point, going down first? Or the killer being anything bar demo (without meta perks nor addons) or ghostface ( no meta perks as that one is also obnoxious and will get a dc).
Zoom out. Why do people hate going down early?
Usually because it is easy to snowball. Once someone is dead at more than 2 gens remaining, the Killer wins.
We COULD address the imbalance of power in both the 4v1 and 3v1.
orrrrrrr, we could keep playing wack-a-mole and start banning more innocent players.

100%. DBD's greatest enemy is itself. The genre is not an easy one to balance for a number of reasons, but these past 3 years have aged the game stronger than its first 6. And it's because it just doesn't work as a game anymore. It really is bordering on PVE.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3967464#Comment_3967464
As the game's changed, it's become more in favor of the people that stream content that makes you feel yucky. Going out of their way to really mess with players that don't know how/can't counteract them. Not that it wasn't that way at all before, but the vibe has definitely shifted.

Most of Hawkins pallets are generally good.
GoJ still is extremely survivor sided.
"Hey, there's like 3 killers who do well on the Game, therefore it's a MASSIVELY killer sided map!" Really?
Nemesis, Pyramid Head, Nurse, Bubba, Legion, GhostFace, Myers, Pig, kinda Artist, Wraith, Knight and SM used to be crazy on it but idk anymore, Singularity and that's just off the top of my head.
Anyone who chews through pallets, benefits from a TINY map or can hit through pallets does pretty well on the map.
Hawkins pallets are by and large ass, sorry. They aren't usually Haddonfield filler bad, but they're pretty garbage.

OW tracks things like dmg dealt, dmg blocked, ect as well. If they track the doomfist is JUST taking dmg and not dealing any after the first round of the game, thats a pretty decent tell.
DBD ideally would have video to fall back on, but tracking things like distance from killer could help at providing context. If you keep running TO the Myers instead of AWAY from the Myers, it can similarly be a pretty decent tell. This of course would need to filter out things like protection hits.
Pretty sure they said that DBD can't support a video replay system due to how it was coded. Could be different now, but I doubt it

I'm sorry, I can't take you seriously when you say THE GAME and HAWKINS are "wildly killer sided," and that "GoJ is ass for everyone." There's a reason why killers call it "Garden of Pain."
Yeah, when there were 10,000 pallets, multiple god windows, a room so dark you couldn't see etc etc. It was Garden of Pain. Now? Just kinda Garden of Ass. Not enjoyable for either side.
Hawkins is a three lane map with bad pallets and few windows.
The Game has a lot of good pallets, but good luck against stealth Killers or Killers who ignore pallets.

GoJ. Eyrie. Toba. The Game. Hawkins. Gas Heaven.
There are plenty of survivor sided maps.
Thought Garden was kinda ass for everyone.
Eyrie is just too open still, unfortunately.
Toba's biggest advantage is the size of the map imo. The loops aren't good, but it's not easy to control the map.
The Game is absolutely Killer-sided depending on the Killer. Obviously, Trapper is going to have a bad time.
Hawkins is wildly Killer-sided.
Gas Heaven really depends on what tiles spawn, imo.

Feeding is literally in Blizzard's Code of Conduct, as a reportable offense that can have penalties.
And feeding is the equivalent of inting in DBD, where DBD survivors do things like purposely run to the killer with the intent of getting hooked quickly.
I can honestly say I've never seen anyone banned for feeding.

Theres a difference between running non-meta perks and seeking out the killer to point at a hook. Your right though that the current systems in play suck at differentiating why ppl died. A video replay function would greatly help at giving context.
According to Coffee, there's probably not.
Anything less than maximum effort appears to be quitting. What they are actually trying to do is ban for intent.

Ragequitting is breaking the rules.
It’s the reason why it has a punishment associated with it, and it’s the reason why people aren’t allowed to admit or encourage it.
Define it.
Obviously, we already have DC'ing and 4%'ing as ragequitting.
Perhaps we can add intentionally throwing. I don't think they could make definitions strict enough to catch people but loose enough to not punish normal players, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt.
What about just not trying your hardest? Will we be banning casual play? Should we consider No Mither throwing? What about Self-Care? Certain quests or achievements perhaps?
Unless we DEFINE "ragequitting", which you seem to be using interchangingly for an attitude or playstyle you dislike, we can't begin to even think about punishing it.

If I get fed up with my team on Overwatch because they didnt pick who I wanted them to or something, so I spend the rest of the game immediately jumping off cliffs or feeding the enemy's Ults... Thats gonna trigger flags and I'll get punished. They arnt going to assume I just REALLY suck and thats why I had a 0kill 0assist 3000 death game.
If feeding got you banned in OW, the world would be a better place.
But also OW would have no players, we all feed a little bit lmao

It’s the exact same issue as hackers. When BHVR patches one exploit, hackers will find alternatives. And hackers are changing the method by which they hack the game.
Yeah except giving up isn't breaking any rules.
You can't possibly force people to try.

Ragequitters should be handled the same way as hackers, because both groups of people are breaking game rules.
In both scenarios, there is no perfect solution. But the correct plan of action, is to keep trying, and keep improving on the detection algorithms.
According to your attitude, BHVR shouldn't try to punish hackers, because hackers are going to turn to anything else that lets them hack.
No where did I say that they shouldn't be punished.
I merely said that people have already found alternatives, and that it would appear that the system isn't really accomplishing much except changing the method by which people give up.
It will take more than punishments to change attitudes.
