Doesn't seem like a good idea, especially since even High MMR 4-Man SWF's don't escape more than 50% of the time.

Why would you release such a 'big' chapter with those bugs.. It's pretty unacceptable, no ?
It's basically a tradition at this point.

What BHVR did was moved the penalty from instantly starting to when you queue for the next match. The reason you all are upset about this, is because now you have to reap what you sow. There's actual consequences to your actions.
I don't really care, since it doesn't matter to me because I don't really play, but it is terrible design.
There was nothing wrong with the previous system. You find it objectionable on a moral level and are trying to use that as a justification to punish people.

You're correct. The stats used by the Stats Tracker have been tracked since September 1, 2020.
As for the known issue with stats discrepancies, the team is actively investigating a fix and hope to have more to share this week!
Thank you for the response, I will be looking forward to seeing any updated stats.

Absolutely not and thats what the reply was about. What is the point of the penalty if you can just skip it?
Yeah, that's such a weird take.
You'd rather they have to sit and wait with the game open? How is that any different from having it closed? They aren't playing either way.
The only way it makes sense is if you want them to be punished on moral grounds. That way they can't play anything else til they complete their time in the time-out chair, which is a wild take to have.

I've been gaming a long time. I've never seen a collective group of gamers be as crappy as DBD survivors. They're sore losers, sore winners, nothing is ever their fault, and it's always "bad teammates" or "bad game design" or "bad killer doing bad things."

Call it whatever you want, it doesn't matter. Survivor Two in your scenario had a chance to "play the game." Isn't that the complaint about tunneling? "It feels bad to load into a match and just get hooked and never have a chance to play the game!" That's the only argument against it.
Survivor Two got some gens in, got some heals in, and got to play the game. Apparently, that's not good enough. So what's the time limit? How long must a survivor be unhooked for in order to be "fair game" again? Five minutes? At least one gen? What's the arbitrary number?
No, what you're really complaining about is that your chases came when you were in a weakened position instead of a ten second head start into God pallets and main building into about 30 seconds of shift+W. You're outing yourself.
Complaints != real issues.
The issue with tunneling is that the amount of skill required for the reward it presents is wildly disproportional. Every other complaint with tunneling harkens back to it.
As a Killer, you need very little skill to successfully execute a tunnel out. The game rewards you massively for it as well. As Survivor, it is insanely difficult to counter a tunnel out. There really isn't any preventing it, but wasting time can allow your team to win. However, even IF you manage to loop the Killer long enough (big ask with modern map design, looking at you Haddonfield) you are relying on your team, which is almost always gonna be disappointing.
It seems like you just have a huge issue with people playing Survivor. Even when people like me, who don't really play Survivor and in fact exclusively played Killer for years, give a dissenting opinion to your drivel, you lose your mind and start with ad hominem attacks.

And I'm not ok with hard tunneling. But if we're getting to hook 5 or 6, you weren't hard tunneled. No matter the hook order. You had a chance to play the game.
Chance to play the game != tunneling. I think that's the point of confusion for everyone.

"IF you die on hook 6, you can definitely still be tunneled.
Survivor One: Hook 1, 2 and 3.
Survivor Two: Hook 4, 5 and 6."
Survivor two wasn't tunneled.
Hooked three times consecutively without a break isn't tunneling, you heard it here first.

Here's how I look at it. If you die at hook 3, you were tunneled. Hook 4, yeah still probably tunneled. If you die at hook 5, you weren't tunneled. Hook 6 and beyond, definitely not tunneled. You had a chance to play the game and get some gen work and heals in. I don't care if you just got off hook, or whatever. Tunneling doesn't mean "killed me earlier than I would have liked."
IF you die on hook 6, you can definitely still be tunneled.
Survivor One: Hook 1, 2 and 3.
Survivor Two: Hook 4, 5 and 6.
or
Survivor One: Hooks 1, 2 and 4
Survivor Two: Hooks 5, 6 and 7.
Survivor Three: 3, 8 and 9.
Just say the line already.

Shorter chases will always be better, true enough. You don't necessarily need short chases to win though.

I don’t doubt that it is for you, but that’s not what the stats say for the average killer player. The average kills ratios show that average killer players are getting 2-3 kills, with 2 kills being more common than 3. I wouldn’t call that “pretty easy”. Average killer players still need to work hard to wins. I know that’s a foreign concept to all the survivor-only players who think that playing killer is a cakewalk.
They are almost 100% getting two Kills every game. This isn't accounting for DC's or Hatch Escapes (which don't count towards MMR and therefore should be discarded, imo)
The average Killer is killing 2-3 players a match, one escapes through Hatch.
-
Considering how Go-Next and AFK Crows have gone?
Not exactly hopeful.

Why are yall still calling it problematic after all this time? You get tunneled because your the weakest player on the team. Its a natural part of the way the game is played. What you want killers to chase the strongest survivors and ignore the weaker ones, wasting more time and giving the survivors even more of a leg up?
Getting tunneled in like over 90% of cases is a skill issue that is being blamed on the killer because heaven forbid people actually take some responsibility."I can't win without tunneling, therefore, I must rationalize my choice."
It is absolutely wild that you think tunneling is a skill issue on the Survivors part. Maybe on the Killer end, but the amount of skill needed to tunnel vs avoid a tunnel is a MASSIVE disparity.

Hatch doesn't count as escape for escape rates so removing the hatch wouldn't effect anything. But remove "pity kills" as you put it would effect kill rates. Not the same thing at all. Currently the hatch is non existent due to killers slugging for 4k anyway so might as well remove it entirely and give survivors what they want (an end to the slugging for 4k).
Pretty sure Hatch does count for escape rates and kill rates.
If we remove Hatch, expect some KR's to push well over 70%, possibly nearing 80. Killers would be massively nerfed across the board.

There is a big difference between demanding immediate 4k from the start of the match and expecting 4k by earning it by killing half the team
Sounds like you didn't earn it if you only killed half the team.

The risk of using the doors lie in getting caught in the office. If you know he's in a chase with a teammate because the HUD shows that, hopping on the camera to give your friend aura reading is fairly safe and can significantly help a teammate in their chase.
Still a HUGE waste of time since you aren't doing gens and he can drop chase at any point and hit a door.

I have a feeling more ppl will use them the longer he's out. Dredge can grab ppl if they get unlucky interacting with a locker he's going to, but ppl still lock lockers.
That has SIGNIFICANTLY more impact and less risk than using a door.
Way more lockers than doors = lower odds of being grabbed
Locked Locker = Way longer for Dredge to break out
Scanned John Trap? Okay, here's some half-baked aura reading that is outclassed by Alert.
-
lmao.
So far as I can tell, NOBODY uses camera's because they are useless.
The risk of being instantly killed versus meh aura reading is not equivalent at all.

Go ahead and switch to killer, guys. You’ll find that it’s probably easy at first, but when you start regularly facing survivors who know what they’re doing, you’ll probably be back here complaining about survivors being OP.
There are definitely legitimate issues on the survivor side right now that make it unfun to play, but those are entirely self-inflicted mistakes by BHVR because they didn’t properly test things or get player input before going live. When those mistakes hopefully get fixed, I think the game will be fine for both sides.
Before this chapter, the kill/escape rates were right where they should be. Lots of people were complaining about survivor even before these recent changes. If you were complaining, you were either 1) escaping at 40% rate or higher, in which case the problem is your expectations, not game balance; or 2) escaping less than the 40% average rate, in which case the problem is your own skill, not game balance. No, it's still pretty easy even after the initial phase.

Thats all an extremely fair point, its easy to forget that if I dont come across those types of squads I typically stomp, I have an 80% kill rate on Demo and 83% on Pig. And so I'd just be providing the same experience I'm currently having right now to 4 solo queue players. Maybe I should look into trying to learn how to better play against these competitive squads so I feel like I'm learning again instead of simply being hopeless. I guess I dont really know where I'd start though.
You can try to record your games.
Or just focus on one area of improvement. For example, I used to focus heavily on knowing what each Survivor was likely up to via game sense alone. Being able to keep track of every player gives you a lot to work with

I suppose there is always that option, true.
Find enjoyment where you can. Rule for life.
-
Genuinely, if you are going and taking matches against god squads, why do you WANT to play against normal players?
All you'd be doing is punching down and giving them the exact same experience, perhaps worse.
I was in a similar situation, but eventually, I decided I wanted to push as high as I could. I went and played comp, tournaments and whatever. Ultimately, I ended up getting bored because pubs was just a slaughter.
Basically, decide what you want. Is winning the end-all-be-all like it was for me? Or would you rather just be goofy and have fun? Choice is up to you, but its simple either way. Wanna win? Keep pushing. Wanna be goofy? Stop taking it so seriously.

The patch before they buffed overcharge.
Though I will say, people may have started using the buffed gen perks in 6.1.0 but after more searching around on the interwebs, pretty much all the posts or videos I see that even use the term 3 gen meta and talk about it were from like october and after. 6.1.0 happened in june (july?). And also from what I can remember while playing during that time, 3 genning really did not pick up speed like that.
Like I said, people were still stuck on PR DMS. Some other Killers were more….curious early-on about some perks potential.

No that's what I mean it wasn't meta yet. People didn't discover that 3 gen stuff til knight and skull merchant came out, and since they excelled at 3 genning they also ended up exposing how good it is overall.
Before that it was the pain res + dead man's meta.
Well, if it's after 6.1 then it was still meta lol
People were still stuck on DMS PR but some of us figured it out early on.

I do think my personal favorite time was before knight and SM got added. That's not to say I don't like knight (SM is a different story) because knight is my 2nd favorite killer, I love the guy.
But it was like right before 3 genning started, so they hadn't butchered like… every gen perk yet. It felt so nice to actually have useful gen regression perks. It felt nice to not have to use pain res or nothing.
Dunno if I agree, since Overbrine Eruption was meta and that was definitely not healthy or good for the game at all.

Because all I've learned in this post is that it's straight survivor players wanting the game to be completely favored to them. Back when they had infinites, old ds, old dead hard, the big maps filled with just strong tiles, 8 second self heals, etc etc. Of course they want it back. Like somehow my reply of "Both sides need fixing and both sides should receive benefits, and not just one side. And people need to stop having an 'Us vs Them' mentality" gets downvoted.
This forum seems to be filled with the most disingenuous people, who don't want the betterment of the game. They just want the betterment of their own side. It's the weirdest thing.
I wouldn't mind going back to 2020 or 2021 DBD. It was pretty balanced, and I'd like to think the community was happier back then.

So escape rates that don't differentiate between low and high level play are the Survivor's proof?
For all we know, there's enough low-level Survivor groups dragging the average down by 10% or more.
But those rates will be used as the be-all, end-all proof that Survivors need more perks and Killers need to be controlled so they can't do anything Survivor's don't like.I get that you don't like the data since it doesn't support your wild takes that DBD is Survivor-sided in the big 2025.

Oh please. I may have just joined the forums, but I've peeked in off and on for years.
You've been insisting that the Survivors are weaker in spite of every Survivor buff for years.
Survivors have had everything they want handed to them basekit so they can still play META, and they still want more, more, and more.I'd say Survivors want NPC Killers, but what they really want is NPC Killers with human players tied down to play them, so they can taunt a human while still getting the EZ wins they demand with every update.
Case in point:
People wanted a QoL feature (I cannot remember which one off the top of my head). The devs threw in gen-kicking limitations at the same time, because Survivors need to be coddled.Survivors wanted anti-tunneling. Were given basekit BT. Whine it's not enough.
Survivors wanted anti-camping. Were given a literal anti-camp timer. Whine it's not enough.
Killers wanted a way to regress exit gates for over 5 years. What does BHVR do? Make it a perk, which ruins METAs. Because Killers don't deserve nice things.
Survivors have been gift-wrapped multiple ways to counter Killer tactics they hate, all without messing up META perk loadouts.
And yet you really think the game has not been Survivor-sided for years?
You either have 0 clue, or you're outright lying.A SWF 4-man with 16 META perks will wipe the floor with ANY Killer by any player, regardless of perks, except the top 0.5% players like Otzdarva.
But Survivors will wave their hands and say 'That does not count!' Because they want more basekit BS. More Killer hand-tying, and more easier wins.Seems like it might just be you.

I'm told these are new survivors. They certainly do new survivor things. Camp pallets, repair generators while injured near a killer, and think they can blind a moving killer.
While I know the post is about the penalty system but he says at the end, that was the most boring game he ever played. Well, it's his fault. After being unhooked the killer went after the other survivor instead of him. What every survivor wants, yeah? But when he sees he wasn't being chase jumps on a nearby gen injured and wonders why he's going back on a hook? Really?
Instead of going for the unhooks the other twitchy is sightseeing or something?
Hope you all realise the killer did nothing wrong here. The 2nd hook on the streamer was his own fault and his teammates could of been more proactive in saving others from the hook.
I suspect the penalty is from missing those skillchecks and getting down right after being unhooked. A flaw in the system but at least we can see why.
So are we now in the supporting bans for being bad era of DBD?

Imagine thinking BHVR makes more money on 1 Killer per 4 Survivors.
It reads like mecca just took a Killer complaint (IE: BHVR makes more money on Survivors, because there's 4 of them per match to 1 Killer) and felt like turning it around without doing anything more than switching the roles.
This game has been Survivor-sided for years. Every complaint Survivors had has been addressed with baked-in mechanics and b asekit upgrades to avoid interrupting their 16 META perks on 4-man SWF loadouts.
And yet this brain trust thinks Survivors are being treated as NPCs. 😂brother, the game hasn't been survivor-sided in half a decade.
If you still have issues, seems like it might be a you issue.

Honestly, I think the system has potential, but clearly needs a bit more fine-tuning.
This particular match was an unfortunate example… Dawko is new to the game, and it’s totally understandable that a new player wouldn’t fully grasp chase dynamics or map pressure yet. Still, the idea behind the system isn’t to punish bad games… it’s to discourage deliberate throw behavior or early ragequits that ruin matches for everyone else.
Ideally, future updates will distinguish better between inexperience and intentional sabotage. Because while the execution isn’t perfect yet, the intention to improve team accountability is, in my opinion, a step in the right direction.
I don't. They need to scrap it entirely and focus on the root cause.
There is NO system that can account for everything. You cannot force people to play the game, especially when the game sucks half the time. If you, somehow, successfully salvage this system despite the tidal wave of bad press it's generating, you have now shifted the goal posts. People will now not commit suicide, but rather soft-quit. They just won't try.

It definitely sounded to me like things might get a little heavy-handed with the go next prevention, but this looks absurd. There was also talk of increasing the penalty and even requiring players to complete a certain number of matches normally before decreasing a player's DC timer.
Under the current environment that's a terrible idea. I get occasional server disconnects when my internet is completely fine, but I still get a penalty for it. And I understand that it's not easy or even necessarily possible to distinguish between an intentional disconnect and a server connection error, but such things are frequent enough to regularly punish completely innocent players. Imagine if I tend to get am average of 1/30 games with a server disconnect. Since server disconnects are essentially uncontrolled almost random events, that means that some of the time I'll likely see a penalty, try to play enough matches to reset the penalty, then be unlucky and get a server disconnect again and instead have a longer penalty.
But now players can be punished if they jump over to survivor and get tunneled or even just happen to be unlucky in match. That means that penalties will probably be stacking up for a large number of players who didn't do anything wrong. A likely consequence of this is that players will get their penalty, go do something else, and end up playing the game less, resulting in fewer people who spend time playing DBD.
There was also talk of increasing the penalty and even requiring players to complete a certain number of matches normally before decreasing a player's DC timer.
That part is also included. Banned for being new, banned for not playing well enough AND you get an increased penalty that takes twenty games to remove.

The invis thing is obviously a bug, let's not pretend its apart of his power. As far as everything else... if they removed the grab and your example were to end with "and then he M1s you", would there be any difference? How is the grab itself good for tunneling?
Because he doesn't slowdown when he hits you with an axe. He speeds up and has no cooldown, unlike an M1, meaning you get very little distance.

https://imgur.com/gallery/bruh-Ht63Ai8
Honestly though with his grab? His grab is useless, I'm sorry. You have to have the perfect scenario for it to matter.
- Hit them with the axe from a close enough range so they can't just out run you because if you have any ounce of distance between you two, they can just get the axe out before you're in range
- Get in hugging range before they reach any sort of tile, or the opportunity is lost
- Hope they have endurance so that the grab is worthwhile, otherwise you're wasting more time trying to get the grab instead of just hitting them normally and picking them up.
The animation is so long and the time you have to waste just getting in range, that it straight up just won't matter 90% of the time.
It is extremely good for tunneling off of hook. Can't say how good it is in chase, but that's all I've seen it used for is getting around Endurance.

I dont really see how its any better for tunneling than anything else really. He's still has to hit someone with the axe, then get close enough for an M1. I'm i missing something?
He moves close to full speed with it out, is completely invisible after coming out of a door and has Undetectable for twenty seconds.
He sneaks up on you, throws the Axe, gets faster, and then grabs you. It'd be like if Legion could tag you with his power and then move at 115% in his Fatigue animation, then grab you.
