Larger maps I think can still cause a bit of an issue, my friend. Except Red Forest and Pale Rose, because these maps used to be larger and players know that, they are used to dealing with those maps being large and have their strategies for it.
I think every map we have should be reverted to the state they were before the original map adjustments from 3.7.0, and the new maps adjusted to have similar layouts.
Scrap the new tiles, go back to a model we know that can and will work.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3941098#Comment_3941098
I don't think that is the case, to be honest.
Tunneling, camping or slugging aren't done because they are required. They are done because such strategies, tunneling in particular, massively tips the scales in the killer's favor, and they do so because these strategies were allowed to spiral out of control.
Tunneling, camping and slugging have always existed in DBD, of course. But they didn't cause nearly as much damage to the game as they do these days because they had proper counters. Slugging was harder to do because less killers had mobility as a power, camping was basically a guaranteed loss that would grant the killer one kill at best, and tunneling, arguably the most problematic of the three, meant that the killer would waste a lot of time going after a survivor who had the resources to protect themselves.
And, funnily enough, back then killers were expected to multihook and they did. Myself included, of course, gotta make that clear. You could reasonably go into a DBD game expecting the killer to spread hooks, which they did. And killers didn't lose every single game they played, not at all.
But let's think about current DBD: all three of these strategies are more problematic now. Camping to a lesser extent, yes, but slugging is worse because of the wave of high-mobility killers, and tunneling is genuinely unhealthy. Think of current day Coldwind Farm, for instance. Even if you have DS and OTR equipped you can't be expected to protect yourself against a tunneler in Coldwind Farm because the game doesn't give you enough resources to do so.
These strategies were not addressed in the past because you could fight against them. Now you can't, and it has reached a point where things are so bad that we need to get rid of them, they cannot exist in the current state of the game.
I think that it was the density of tiles that was the problem, along with the size.
Large maps, like Cowshed, with loops that chain from one side of the map to another were bad. Larger maps, with loops that are stronger individually, but more spread out, would be better. It would make it more difficult to tunnel AND hold gens. Objectives being further apart is better for everyone.
Ultimately, I doubt they do it. It would mean admitting they spent a lot of time and money on a mistake.

And they will be now that go next on hook is basically being removed. And Fyi you can't make something enjoyable for everyone when it's a Us vs Them type game changes will either ruin or enhance the fun depending on the side
It would be foolish to think that removing 4% will do anything except shift the issue.

They could make it so killers get a little speed boost after hooking someone and to not make it affect stronger killers, it would deactivate by the same conditions as bloodlust and by starting a chase. That‘s the only way I see to give non mobility killers some mobility without adding portals.
How do you solve moonwalking to retain the boost?

We could admit that Realm Beyond was a failure.
Now that I would love to see. I've always, always hated it.
In my opinion the Realm Beyond was easily one of the worst things ever implemented in DBD: not only did it ruin the game's atmosphere and visual identity, but also made the maps worse. Literally all of them.
That is why I hope the Swamp maps are never reworked, and if they are to be reworked I hope it takes as long as humanly possible.
I do think they should go back to larger maps. I think it would help a lot of things, but I have to think of something to help the Killers without mobility. If we can solve that, I don't foresee many issues.

But again… how do you fix this? The entire problem before was that killer wasn't as lethal as it should've been. It's always going to be favored to one side, there is no balancing it.
The only way you drop killrates without making it feel awful for killers is making hooks the win condition and not kills. And considering they haven't done it yet and the only plans they have are "anti-*insert problematic killer playstyle*", that doesn't at all fix the problem that sometimes those problematic killer playstyles are the only viable way to win… then what is the point?
We've had this issue for years now. I've been recommending basekit changes to killers for YEARS now that would ease off on tunneling, camping, and slugging or at least let them fix those playstyles without butchering the entire killer gameplay loop. And they haven't done and don't even have plans for it.
Killer was lethal enough, but it was difficult and annoying to play. There were mechanics that Survivors had that were just unpleasant to face, along with large but densely populated maps. The amount of skill needed as a Killer, to counter said things, was NOT proportional to the amount of skill Survivors needed to display to take full advantage of them.
Now, Survivors have functionally zero annoying mechanics compared to yesteryear. Maps are tiny and have few loops, and Killer does not take nearly as much skill as Survivor. We have reversed course too far.

And I'm telling you, that you can't physically fix people just giving up because they give up over the dumbest things. That is what I don't think you understand. There is no fixing it.
People give up over anything. They give up over unfixable things, you will NEVER fix that problem outside of just straight up punishing giving up. You can't fix a survivor having a bad first chase. You can't fix a survivor not liking a certain killer. You can't fix a survivor not liking a certain map. You just can't.
If they had a bad 5 past matches, DON'T QUEUE. That's the fix. Stop queueing if you aren't having fun. Like???
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3941027#Comment_3941027
Yes yes, let's keep using kill rates under the post where I've said that using kill rates makes you look silly because it's an objectively flawed stat. Thank you for proving my point.
There is alleviating it. You cannot force people to enjoy things they don't enjoy. For example, Dredge triggers massive headaches for me, I would sit inside of a locker, unplug my headset and close my eyes until it was done. It simply wasn't worth it.
You could adjust BP gains for Survivor. You could make it so that there's a real comeback mechanic. You could make the game less Survivor-favored at 4v1 and much less Killer-favored in a 3v1. You could remove a couple of gens in favor of side objectives. You could design some half-decent maps. We could admit that Realm Beyond was a failure.
Other than perma-banning people who give up, or who play in a way you don't like, there isn't any fixing it. But we can try.

Likewise, imagine how little compassion someone must have as an individual to queue up to a game knowing that if they don't like the killer or if they get found first, or any other reason, they'll ruin it for the other four people.
I imagine few go into a match with the expressed purpose of ruining it.

And here we are. Why, why, why. When you bring up these survivors are killing themselves on first hook of the match, they just say its because of the 5 matches prior. Bullshit
Seeing a strong killer? This occurs with all killers! Regardless of how "nice" you try to play. Quit making excuss for babies ruining other player's experience.
OP is right. While BHVR doesn't count matches with DCs, they still count 3v1s where one survivor offs themselves 5 seconds into the match. Also, no this isn't recent. It's been going on for years. Just before they would DC before hitting the ground.
So then 75% of the playerbase is entitled children, so we are doomed regardless in your view.
It does surprise me just how little compassion and how deeply tribalism has taken hold. "It MUST be that the other side is out to get me, there's no other possible explanation."

Hey silly goose. You do understand that you literally sound the same way, correct? What's the saying, "don't throw stones from glass houses"?
You yourself are determining the entire thoughts of the whole survivor playerbase.
Nah, I am telling you that not everyone is out to get you. Survivors aren't a hivemind of evil children.
Players are people with feelings. They want to have fun, they want to enjoy the game. This is undeniable. Few people, on either side, enter the match with the sole purpose of ruining the game for others.
From my literal years of experience, with most people who give up early, it usually isn't just about THAT game. It's often about the 5 games prior that also went poorly, it's about the toxic messages they got, or the BM or whatever else.
I am saying that heavily punishing suicides, without trying to address common pain points for Survivors, is only going to make the problem worse over time, which is something none of us want.

I hate this concept of "Well it's not fun so I'm going to quit". It's such childish behaviour. Stop chasing your specific requirements for a "fun" match. Not all matches have to be fun. The whole point of having a fun match is that it's more fun than other matches. If every game was "fun", then the things you find fun become not fun, but monotonous instead. To enjoy things, you have to sometimes not have fun. Fun is only a comparison to things that are not fun.
If you're not having fun, don't just quit, uninstall the game.
Then I'm sure you'll find fun somewhere else. Go play Lego Harry Potter. You'll win every time and I'm sure you'll have lots of fun.
"It's fine that the game is unfun for others as long as it's fun for me"
Like jeez, didn't think I'd have anyone arguing AGAINST making the game better but here we are.

I'm sorry but that's a poor excuse.
They'll quit not because the killer is strong, but because they just don't like the killer. You can't solve that.
They'll quit not because bad first chase = poor game, they quit because they can't handle they had a bad start. Killers can have bad starts too, and you don't see them constantly just immediately dcing after a bad first chase. It's ridiculous.
You cannot solve entitlement. You can make bp gains great, and they'd still go next. "Years of build up" brother survivors have been given SO many changes to improve the experience. Genuinely, how much hand holding can they expect? Do we need to add a basekit system where the gens will just passively start repairing themselves to make it a bit easier too?
I did not know I was speaking to the supreme master of DBD, the one who can determine other people's thoughts so easily, my apologies.
Your absurdism fallacy isn't clever, but it does reveal that you have no true rebuttal, which is fine.
Try to check your own bias.

They are capable of it, but do they do it is the question? And what is there to address? You can't address that. People kill themselves from a bunch of nothin.
Have a bad first chase? Suicide.
See a killer they don't like? Suicide.
See a teammate of theirs go down quick? Run up to the killer, do the "come on" emote, and suicide.
And you've never stopped to ask yourself WHY? You just assumed everyone else to be entitled brats?
They are real people with real feelings about the game, same as you.
They are likely frustrated by how poorly the Survivor experience seems to be going these days. A bad first chase often leads to a poor game. Seeing a strong Killer usually means the match will be over quickly, without much opportunity to gain BP or Archive progress.
There is little reward to "toughing out" bad games as Survivor. The BP gains are abysmal, Archive progress often directly detrimental to your team and the frustration of playing well and having nothing to show for it builds up over time.
Survivor is uniquely frustrating in that you can play perfectly, but it won't matter if your team doesn't play well. You rely on them, and yet BHVR refuses to consider it a team game, opting to consider it a 1v1v1v1v1 instead.
All of this builds and builds until people chase a perfect match. This is what we are seeing now, years of build-up. We have to address how miserable the player-base is if we have any hope of fixing this issue.

No I don't believe it because it is an objectively flawed stat to use when things like survivors going next, can alter it entirely.
Survivors going next isn't some "latest epidemic", it's always happened. Where do they state it doesn't include dc's? Because dc's are no longer people just quitting but they turn into bots. Do the bots not count as a kill? What about the rest of the teammates that are now in essentially a 3v1 and they get killed? Is the game entirely null and void?
That doesn't even count for people killing themselves on hook which happens constantly. I need to update the main post in fact because after I wrote this, the amount of games I had with "go nexters" went from 4 in a row, to 7. It's a complete joke.
Any match with a DC is thrown out.
They are capable of separating hook suicides, as seen with the SM information they presented where they stated suicides made up 2% of her total KR.
Well, be glad then, because the game will get worse. Removing hook suicides without actually ADRESSING anything is one of the decisions of all time, to be sure. Up there nerfing SC simply because it was used frequently.
-
I won't be playing, but I would've liked to see real controller settings instead.
-
"I don't believe it because it goes against what I want to believe"
We've known that KR's have been an issue since before this latest epidemic. 60% is far too high and doesn't include DC's.
Perhaps we should look into making the game more enjoyable for everyone?

Someone more plugged-in than I might check that or know more, but going off that one would assume there might be some sort of an internal timer involved? I think it's a good question to ask how the system would distinguish between someone actively giving up rand running to the killer vs. just a really quick tunnel out. If there isn't a good way to distinguish between those cases then I can see the system being used maliciously. We won't know until it arrives or they give us more information about it sadly.

I have a sick suspicion that because he only posted Killer-sided takes, he may have been targeted by people who dislike that. The same occurs for the downvote system. It's why it needs to go, it doesn't promote discussion, it only promotes trolling and targeted harassment.
Daniel did not deserve the ban, he did not post anything problematic, he did not harass anyone, and he did not post anything that was an issue to anyone. He just happened to post EXTREMELY Killer-sided takes that while tone deaf were harmless. I have seen this with countless other people here too - always Killer-sided posters, never Survivor-sided ones.
If it's not direct favoritism or targeting, then something is off with the ban detection or people are getting false flagged. That needs addressing.

Well said, my friend.
Most tunneling is done because it can be done, you will rarely ever come across a situation where you have no choice but to tunnel someone out of the game.
I think the new anti-tunnel features, whatever they are, have the potential of being one of the healthiest changes in a long time.
Good to see you friend and thank you for the kind words :)
-
That isn't why people tunnel, we know this.
During the best time period for Killers, directly after 6.1.0, there was still rampant tunneling and camping. This was at the height of Eruption, Overcharge, Call of Brine, PR, Corrupt, DMS etc etc. This was pre addon nerf Blight times.
So why did people still tunnel if they didn't need to?
Because they could and it got results.
There are some matches where you do need to tunnel. These are few and far between. Teams that are genuinely so good that you have no other recourse are exceedingly rare. Most players tunnel because the amount of skill you need to successfully tunnel someone out (and thereby astronomically raise your odds of winning) is far lower than the skill (and coordination) required to prevent a tunnel out.
This is the crux of the issue. Tunneling is too much of a boon for how little skill it takes to pull off.
Tunneling either needs to be less impactful on the match or it needs to be much more difficult to execute.

Having to be exponentially better than the opponent to see value is not how proper counterplay works. Likewise, even if you ARE exponentially better than the Killer and do successfully take them on a run; you still need your teammates to do gens, which is completely out of your hands.

Cause comp is the most representative of the balance of the game and don't forget that tournament does not allow multiple perks, some perks are banned and there are the same restrictions for items/add-ons.
As said before, high tier killers does not need to campt or tunnel to get a win however at high MMR, even if most games are winnable, you still have SWF that brings tons of strong item with best add-ons to gen rush as fast as possible… and that is frustrating.
Many players are try hard in this game and if your MMR is high you will get full try hards most of the time while it is supposed to be a party game for fun.
There is less and less fun in DbD due to the competitive community. That's why BHVR has to punish or lock those behaviors to remove them from the game.
All strong items should be removed, add-ons for survivors should be removed and most killers' strong add-ons should be removed as well."Cause comp is the most representative of the balance of the game"
"tournament does not allow multiple perks, some perks are banned and there are the same restrictions for items/add-ons."
So, which is it? Is it a good representation or is it not? Because these things cannot both be true.

As a survivor, you don't control which hook you're hooked on, but you definitely control the area where you'll get hooked. Some sort of loop or vault is almost always near any hook. Im just saying the proper use for DS is after you're unhooked, and if the killer is focusing you, and you know you're going down, ensure a vault or pallet is nearby. Thats what DS is for. They pick you up, and bam, hop off and you instantly have a new loop between you and the killer. A lot of survivors just would equip DS, get downed again, use it, and just be completely out of place and just get downed again within seconds due to not bothering to think about a plan. If the killer is chasing you, you chose where to lead that killer. Use that to your advantage. Me, I like the basement unhook perk, so if I know I'm going down, I'll usually position myself where the killer will likely try to basement hook me. That entirely removes the pressure from my team to have to come rescue me. Am I out of position and in a deadzone? I put myself in that position - that's on me, so to take advantage of a bleak situation, I'd run myself to a corner to try to avoid having the killer hook me in a centralized and easy to patrol area. That last gen almost done? I run him as far away as possible from that last gen to buy that survivor as much pressure free time on the gen.
Survivors have a lot of control over what the killer does. While we can't have them hook us at specific locations, where we are chased is absolutely in our hands. He either follows us to where we want him to be, or he realizes what's up and gives up chase.
That's why a lot of maps had hook locations changed, because survivors could ensure they go down in places where they cannot be hooked. Thats also why strong survivors can consistently run killers for multiple gens without getting downed - they think ahead and don't just blindly hold W. Loops are very powerful against almost all killers save for balance breakers like nurse.
So yes, you are at least correct that DS wasn't helpful for survivors who don't have a plan. For those with a plan, DS is enough to extend chase for more time thanks to using it properly near a loop. That's not a DS issue, that's just inexperience. There's a LOT to learn in DBD, so once you start thinking ahead and have a plan, your survivor potential skyrockets in comparrrison to holding W.
You don't get to control what resources remain on the map, that is up to your teammates. You do not control where the Killer goes after they down you. I would make it a point to hook people inside of areas I knew to be dead zones.
If someone wants me to chase them in Shack, for example, I am not going to hook them in basement unless I believe my reward for doing so will be greater than the risk I incur for putting them in a strong structure.

DS was supposed to be used in conjunction with a nearby vault/loop. Running out into an open area with nothing, yes, would absolutely have DS not do much at all to help you outside of buying your team a little time, but that's using the DS incorrectly. You're supposed to go down near a vault or pallet, so once you stun the killer, you're good to go at another loop to run. Nurse could of course entirely disregard this - I still feel nurse is fundamentally bad design since she can pretty much cheat every balance attempt in the game.
You don't get to control where you get hooked, nor do you control what the Killer does after you get unhooked.
All you've said is that DS kind of helped people who didn't need help and did nothing for people who actually needed the assistance.

why wouldn't we in something as trivial as chases. You'd expect someone not to be able to hold a 60s chase against Blight like pros can do, but being able to hold only 20s chases on average across all killers?

DbDLeague discord server, dbdl statistics channel, they are pulling data from latest tournaments played.

please tell me what exactly is off topic when you refused to properly respond to any argument i gave, especially about average chase length and how weakest killers have some of the highest killrates
I'd expect that there is a large difference between the average player and someone who has taken the game seriously enough to become a competitive player, yes.
A forty plus second difference in chase time isn't as extreme as you might think. Especially considering the likely hour difference.

i played scrims because i didn't think i'm yet ready to actually play for one of teams.
As for the fact that you care or not, it was never about that, it was about the excuses yall make when losing even to killers that are easiest to play against :)
As someone who has been exactly where you are, sometimes you just gotta leap in.
I jumped headfirst into it with the Community Cups and it was a wonderful experience for me.
